In nineteen sixty six, buzz Aldrin took the very first
space selfie. Oh nice, So I found a drink called
the buzzed Aldron.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Oh wow, of course there is really cute.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
It is cute and of course contains tang and grenadine,
club soda rum and a lemon slice.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well there you go. If you want to make one,
I've got a link to that drink. It's in the

Now your surveys and studies and such. Humans touch their
face eight hundred times a day head, Yeah, I was
doing eight hundred.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
That seems like a lot.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
That makes it like five times in the last twenty seconds,
usually without even real Now you just did it, Lea.
We don't even realize you did it twice. Now now
you touched your head. Start doing play by play. Researchers
from the University of Houston and Virginia Tech say, we're
doing these unconscious gestures, and it might reveal that we're stressed.
One hundred and seventy hours of footage from Tense to
(03:00):
sudi is. They used AI and thermal imaging to track
every touch and measurable subtle sign and a little bit
of perspiration as well. The results People who frequently touch
their chin, or their cheeks or their nose, so called
the t zone showed stronger psychological stress responses. Those self
soothing gestures, also seen in primates, may help calm the
(03:23):
nervous system. Because face touching is easy to observe, scientists
think it could one day be used to monitor workplace
stress in real time.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
What if you're really touching your chin because you're trying
to pull out that random chin hair that keeps pop out.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
You're touching your nose, touching your what was the other spot,
touching your the t zone, the cheeks, just pinching your
cheeks usually pinch somebody else's cheeks. That is surveys and
studies and such on The John and Heidie Show show.

I'm a big fan of Home Alone and Home Alone
two and uh, I think our son says he likes
like Home Alone three or four the best. Yeah, and
then there's like Home Alone five. There's a lot of homolones.
(04:20):
There's a whole lot of them. But the original Kevin
McAllister is back, but his high jinks have matured. Home
Alone star mcculay Culkin reprises his role as the movie's
scheming protagonist, all grown up now in Home Instead's new
holiday ad, but Home Home, but not Alone. Instead of
(04:43):
defending his house against a pair of incompetent burglars, Kevin
McAllister's new goal is protecting his aging mother from everyday dangers,
which involved bubble wrapping the house, pouring salt on the
icy steps, and eliminating fire hazards nailing the carpet to
the floor. The AD's emotional center comes when old man
mar Lee's granddaughter appears with his shovel in hand, carrying
(05:03):
his lessons forward that fear shouldn't stop families from having
conversations that matter the most.

Heidi, did you know that sighing is good for your health?
You're gonna You're gonna live forever. My daughter and my
wife both I oh lots. I spend a lot of
time with him, and all I hear is like, what
is going on over there?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I do?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I saw all the scien advances did. A study found
that sighing offers real physical benefits beyond emotional relief. Deep breaths,
along with long exhales, help lower stress, improve mood, and
keep lungs healthy. Each sigh expands the lungs, reopens tiny
sacks in your lungs, and reduces surface tension to keep
tissues moist. In contrast, constant shallow breathing makes breathing harder
(06:26):
with age. So go ahead, let that sigh fly. It
might help you feel better and breathe easy here.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
So, yeah, I saw a lot.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, she rolls her eyes a lot too, but mainly
when she's around me.

bad news? Patient says, I'll take the good news. Doctor says,
you're gonna have a disease named after you.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
No, that's not good news at all. Wouldn't it be
so weird to have that like thing they name it
after you? No sense, it's definitely not good. That is
your joke. Of the day right here on the John

Time now for the scoop of the day. Dentists may
soon have a game changing alternative to teeth implants. They
might have a new thing, lab grown biological teeth. What
do you think, Heidi Okay? A CNN report says researchers
worldwide making major progress, including new breakthroughs. This year, at
(08:21):
King's College, London, a team developed an improved hydrogel scaffold
that mimics the mouth's natural environment, allowing tooth forming cells
to grow more realistically. That's key step toward replacing mouse
cells with human ones. In Japan, scientists have begun human
trials of a drug that can regrow teeth, while teams
(08:44):
at Tufts and the University of Washington are creating tooth
structures and stem cells from human tissues. In late twenty
twenty four, a team at the School of Dental Medicine
of Tufts University grew human like teeth created from human
and pigs in pigs. Experts say true biological tooth replacement
(09:04):
could become a reality within the next decade. So I
heard one of the things they mentioned mice. Are they
putting human teeth in mice? Can you imagine the mouse
smiling a big old teeth.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
I will say I think that having an alternative for
a tooth replacement is great. I think that's wonderful. But
I'm not gonna ingest anything.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
There's anything a lot of stuff they're talking about in
that report that makes me go, yeah, I'm not quite
ready for that. That is your scoop of the day
on The John and Heidie Show.

Excited a visit right now with best selling author Mitch Album.
He's got a bunch of great books so for forty
two millions sold, and he's got a new one out
(09:51):
right now. It's a novel. It's called Twice. Mitch, tell
me a little bit about this book.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
Well, it's a story about a guy who finds out
when he's a little boy, but he has the magical
ability to do everything in his life twice, but only twice.
He gets to redo on everything, but he has to
live with the consequences of his second try, and so
he kind of goes through his childhood and adolescence fixing
the basketball shot that he mixed or the embarrassing comment
(10:18):
he made. And then when he becomes a man, he
finds out that there's one caveat to his power. It
doesn't work with love. In fact, it kind of works
the opposite. If someone's in love with you and you
decide to go back in time and try somebody else,
then that first person can never love you again. They'll
be in the world, but they'll never feel the same
way about you. And of course, at some point you
(10:40):
have to face a very faithful decision about the woman
he's in love with.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
And it sounds like it would be cool to have
a second chance of things. But there are some drawbacks too,
aren't there.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
Well, yes, I mean the thing one of the points
of the book is that if you keep getting second chances,
you won't learn anything. If you don't learn from your
mistakes or change as a result of them, you're probably
going to peat them. And so we have to realize
there's a certain value in things not going the way
we want them to the first time around. It helps
(11:08):
us as we go forward.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
And being in radio, there are times we record things
and then if you make a mistake, you and fix it.
I wish I could do that in real life. I
can't do that in real life, but I feel like
I can kind of relate to this guy.
Speaker 7 (11:18):
Well, that's true in radio and television and things anything
that's live. You don't get a second chance. But when
you make a mistake, you're probably pretty certain not to
do it again because it's stings and you can't take
it back, So you also have to be on your toes.
I didn't think about it for radio, but I really
just wanted to write a book that addresses the whole
(11:41):
question of regret and the grass always being greener. You know,
as people get older, they start feeling like, well, it's
too late to change, you know, I can't do anything differently,
and so I'm stuck with whatever it is. I'm stuck with.
I'm stuck with my job, I'm stuck with the partner
that I really i'm not crazy about. I'm stuck with
living in a certain pace. And if we try to
(12:02):
look at things as what we have been given instead
of what's been taken from us, I think it's a
better way to go through life. So that's kind of
the underlying theme, even though the story is kind of
magical and time travel again.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Our guest right now, Mitch Album. His newest book is
out now. It's called Twice. But you've sold over forty
two million books, so many people listening absolutely know the
name Mitch Album. What is it like to be known
all around the world.
Speaker 7 (12:25):
Well, I've gotten used to it. Tuesdays with Maury. It's
not the same as writing a book like Fifty Shades
of Gray or something like that, where everybody knows it.
But you know, that's kind of the end of it,
is that they know it with me, they know Tuesdays
with Maury, but they also want to talk about it.
They want to It's usually comes with, well, my father
(12:46):
died from Luke Garrett's disease, my mother died from cancer.
I read this when I lost my sister. Can I
talk to you about it? So it's more than just recognition,
it's conversations, and I've had thousands, thousands of those conversations
over the years with people. It's one of the things
that has shaped me as a writer because I'm able
to learn about people's grief and about people's worries and
(13:10):
about people's losses because I hear about them all the time.
And so it's a very personal connection with people. When
they say they they don't usually just stop it saying
I read Tuesdays with Morey. There's usually you know, then
can I ask you about this? Or here's my personal
story and connecting and so it's quite a privilege. But
(13:31):
it's definitely different than just being known for a book
that sold a lot of.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Copies, absolutely and again over forty two million books, so
that's a lot. Now with some of the books, they're
more of a memoir. Others it's a novel. Is that
a completely different process when you're doing the two different
types of books.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
It is, But you know, I was birthed in journalism,
you know, I came up through newspapers and sports writing
and so so I'm pretty adept at creating nonfiction. And
Tuesdays with Morey was obviously nonfiction, and then The Five
People You Meet in Heaven, which was the book that
followed Tuesdays with Maury, was total fiction. So you know,
you just have to kind of put on the hat
(14:06):
and say, Okay, this is what I'm going to live
with now for the next year. I'm going to be
in the nonfiction mode, which is reporting and making phone
calls and writing things down and you know, data collection
and all that and then putting it all together, or
fiction mode, which is a lot of daydreaming and sitting
around and looking at the sky or looking at a
fireplace and thinking what will my character do next, like
(14:29):
riding a bike er chewing gum. You can do both things,
It's just hard to do at the same time.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Well, you do an awesome job, Mitch. Thank you for
your time today.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
Sir, my pleasure.
Speaker 2 (14:37):

is out now. It's called Twice. I've got a link

I don't think. I'm pretty sure. We have already talked
about the fact we've not seen this from two thousand

(16:06):
for me?
Speaker 3 (16:07):
You have another story in the long list of famous jurors.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Tom Hanks, Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Got called in for jury duty in Los Angeles in
twenty thirteen, and he did end up on the jury.
It was a contentious domestic violence case. During a lunch
break one day, he was approached in the stairwell by
a staffer who worked for the prosecution. She thanks Hanks
for showing up and told him that they were all
(16:34):
impressed that someone of his stature didn't try to get
out of it. He smiled and said he was just
doing his civic duty. Then he continued on. But defense
lawyers claimed prose prosecutorial misconduct as no one from either
side is allowed to talk to jurors. The case was
scrapped when the defendant, who was facing up to a
(16:57):
year in prison if convicted, struck a plea deal for
a lesser charge of disturbing the piece with a one
hundred and fifty dollars fine because Tom Hanks talked to
a prosecutor.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Wow, So yeah, that's too bad that they didn't think that's.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Really I know it is. Way to go, Tom, Yeah.

Fun fact for you, heide John Greenland is further north, south,
east and west than Iceland, so it's further and every
direction which seems kind of weird, but there it is.
Fun fact for you, Heiding, Black sheep got such a
bad rap because their wool is harder to die than
that of white sheep. So the sheep themselves are just fine.
(18:13):
They just have you know, black wool instead of they're
still good sheep. So if you know, send some black sheep,
even be nice to them because it's not their fault.
Fun fact for you, heid John Nirvana's Kurt Cobain only
owned one car in his entire lifetime. It was a
blue nineteen sixty five Dodge Dart. Isn't that weird to think? Yeah? Yeah, well,
and that's not you know, I don't know what kind
(18:35):
of condition it was in.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
But yeah, I don't think it would matter.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah. One more fun fact for you, Heiding. The members
of the band Duran Duran once one Duran Duran look
alike contest. They were in a lookalike contest, and they
want it.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
They want well, of course they did.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
They don't there are some times that that hasn't happened.
Willy Nelson lost one, and who else.
Speaker 3 (18:55):

As more people worry about their environmental footprint, both in
life and in death, a business is offering a unique
(19:27):
alternative to a traditional burial Heidie coffins and earns made
of mushrooms.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Oh weird.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Mount Pleasant group, which provides funeral and cremation services in
the Toronto area, are offering biodegradable products called living Cocoon
and Earthrise. Their form from mushroom roots and hemp fibers.
They grow into sturdy shapes within seven days and break
down fully in the soil after about forty five days,
returning all the nutrients to the earth. Research shows fifty
(19:55):
percent of people want greener funeral choices, and the company
believes mushroom cast kids using no wood, no metal, no
chemicals represents a new era of sustainable memorials that reduce
environmental impact while honoring loved ones.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Why not just bury the ashes? Why do you need
a container at all?
Speaker 2 (20:11):
I don't know. I don't know if they're putting ashes
in this orf, they're putting people in.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
This Oh, it's like a full on casket.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
I don't know. I thought we watched a movie over
the weekend where they had it interesting. Do you remember
the name of the movie, don't? I can't think of
who's in it? Who is in the movie anyway? At
one point, oh, Ray Romano was in it because it
was his kids in the movie used a bow and
arrow to shoot a flaming arrow out into a boat
because Grandpa wanted to be burned at sea, and then
(20:39):
the thing exploded and the pieces of Grandpa were falling down.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
It pretty funny.

I don't remember who the movie was, but it was good,
I know. Fun story. Thanks for listening to the John

a guy who has this skill is very sexy. What
skill is that.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
To be able to build something?
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Oh? No, but I can do that, Thank goodness. Cooking, Yeah,
do I have the skill of cooking?
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Not so much.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I could cook like the same nine things.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
You can make a few things, and I.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Can make a big mess in doing it. So yeah.
Usually I just stay out of the way and let

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Have one final young hero story?
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Oh I love these too. Said that it's coming to
an end, but let's hear it.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Jimmy Calbrin is a former fire chief. Unfortunately, he, his wife,
and their two year old son all slept through a
fire alarm. Oh wow, good thing for them that they're
six year old. Madeline heard the beeping. She woke up,
smelled smoke, and it was so thick that it was
burning her eyes and throat. She ran down the hallway shouting, Daddy,
(22:43):
the house is on fire. The house is on fire.
And everybody was able to get out of there safely
because this little girl happened to wake up, and she
happened to alert the whole family and the fire department
posted a thing on Facebook and it said, Madeleine, it
goes without saying, how bright and smart of a girl
you are. This morning proved that love was very very
(23:05):
sweet and she saved her whole family and that makes
her a hero.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
He row for shore. That is very very cool, Heidi,
thank you for that.

few more tomorrow. Questions plaguing humanity It's been a little
bit since I've handing. I have a bunch saved up.
Why do women always ask questions that have no right answers?
You ask me questions all the time, and I'm like,
I'm gonna refrain from answering that I plead the fifth?
How about this one? Do cannibals get engaged to be marinated?
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Funny?
Speaker 2 (24:12):
What's the point in asking somebody if they're lying? Because
now lay?
Speaker 3 (24:16):
Because if they're lying, they're not gonna say.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
How about this? Do bald people ever have bad head days?
If you pull the wings off a fly, does it
become a walk?
Speaker 3 (24:26):
I see?
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Should you trust a stockbroker who's married to a travel agent?
You know they could just leave the country with your money?
Does gun control mean holding the gun with both hands?
Does the Pillsbury doughboy have any role models?
Speaker 7 (24:43):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (24:44):

wipes out six point five million dollars in medical debt, thousands.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
Of pros of it people do.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
The Florida church gave thousands of families in their community
the gift of a fresh start. Transformation Church Pensacola partnered
with a nonprofit called Undue Medical Debt. They erased six
point five million dollars in medical debt for local residents.
The church raised forty thousand dollars in donation, which Undue
Medical Debt used to then purchase that medical debt and
(25:43):
wipe out the balances for about forty four hundred people
in their county. The surprise announcement was made during their
Sunday morning service November the second, when the pastor Brad
Livingston shared the incredible news with the congregation. So we
already wrote a check and the next step, he said,
they receive it. They mail out letter and forty four
hundred people are going to get a letter that says,
because of the generosity of the people at this church,
(26:05):
we're happy to tell you your debt has been era.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I love it when people do that.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Is it so huge that they were able to for
forty thousand dollars by six point five million dollars in yea,
I love that. Yeah, I love it. I know people
who have done this, and there are some people who
do this every year, and you know, I wish I
was in a position to say, hey, let's do some
of that, but I don't have the forty thousand dollars. Yes,
but for people who do, how amazing is that?
