at my side. Hello, Heidi. How's it going over there?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
John?

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Good?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm good. I'm excited to visit with Samantha Hale. She's
a very funny stand up comic and she's got a
new comedy special out. It's called Horror Nerd. It came
out at like Halloween times, so it's perfect timing for that.
I would like to have gotten her on the radio sooner,
but well we didn't, so a little busy. Yeah, So
it's gonna it's gonna be now, it's gonna be today,

(00:46):
Well not now, it's gonna be a little bit from now,
but you know, later today. I think you understood. Thanks
for listening to The John and Heidi Show on a Friday,
The Jon and Haidi Show. Thank you so much for
listening to the John ed Heidi Show, brought to you
in part by jscasemedical dot com. Do you have a

(01:12):
to party, my beautiful bride, Heidi Small. What do you
got for me there, Heidi?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Today is the day that Moby Dick was published back
in eighteen fifty one.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
That's cool. I've been around for quite a lot it
has been Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
And I found a Moby Dick cocktail to help celebrate
the occasion. It has dark Rum, triple sack lemon juice
and seven up.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Oh. Well, there you go. I've got a link to
that drink in the show notes for today at John
and heidishow dot com.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Now, surveys and studies and such, being slightly overweight might
not shorten your life, but being too thin can. A
massive Danish study, Oh I love Danish sounds good? Oh
from I see over eighty five thousand dollars found that
test participants with the BMI below eighteen point five face

(02:29):
nearly triple the risk of early deaths. Well, those lower
health end actually have elevated risks. By contrast, people in
the overweek category or abase range showed no significant increase
in mortality. Really, so that's just you know, moderately obees,
not over over over overweight. Research argued the BMI is

(02:49):
outdated and two blunt of a tool suggesting the safest
range may actually lie between twenty two point five and
thirty says thinness, not moderate fatness is a bigger danger
according to this study. So well study, yeah, me too,
Gonna have some stuff to you know, where can I
get good Danish? This time to day surveys and studies

(03:11):
and such on The John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Heardi Show.

Speaker 2 (03:14):

a Little screen. ABC has unveiled their holiday program programming

(03:35):
schedule and they include a new Dancing with the Stars
special and a Kevin Costner First Christmas Special and a
CMA Country Christmas Special. They got a lot of stuff.
It's all special too. So the holiday programming is, you know,
kind of a big deal this time of year, isn't it, Heidi, Yes,
it is. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Wise have reunited their

(03:57):
mummy roles. They're going to be doing a new mon
tell me they started working together, like back in the
end of the nineties. Anyway.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, that was a huge franchise.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Well, they're going to be doing another version of it.
Apparently that's exun it sounds like. And Fox is searching
for the country's dumbest people for their latest unscripted effort,
called The Nation's Dumbest Scandinavian Program. That must first be
the first TV show where the loser is actually the winner. Apparently,
celebrities fight out to be eliminated from the competition as

(04:29):
quickly as possible to avoid being crowned the nation's dumbest.
So they've got influencers and wrestlers, comedians, politicians. It sounds interesting,
So that'll be on Fox eventually, Big screen, Little screen
on the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 6 (04:40):
My Pillow was excited to announce the biggest three to

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Shoe, Heidi. Did you know that for years we've said
breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but
maybe it's not. Did you know that I did not
research shows skipping meals does not negatively affect your thinking.
Analysis of sixty three different studies found virtually no difference
in memory, in attention, or in problem solving skills between
people who had breakfast and those who did not. The
brain easily switches from gluten coose to another energy source

(05:33):
keytones when hungry. Keeping your performance steady, adults handle short
fasts just find kids still benefit from morning food. Researchers
find that hunger only distracts you when you are thinking
about food. We've done a lot of fasting lately. It's
been great for us.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
I've never really been a breakfast person, so that part
of it doesn't bother me at it.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I believed the whole breakfast is important thing, so it's
been it's been good for me. We don't know everything,
but now we know.

Speaker 7 (05:57):
This The Jonan HAUGHTI Shoe.

Time now for the joke of the day with my
beautiful bride, Heidi, what you got from me? Their Heidi?

Speaker 3 (06:18):
What do you call two monkeys that share an Amazon
account us?

Speaker 2 (06:21):
I have no idea what primemates prime mates? That's good?
See where you get me? These are better?

Speaker 3 (06:30):
This is this is a better one.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Yeah, that's a better joke. Better some of the stuff
you have, it's like not good at all. That is
your joke of the day on the John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 4 (06:39):

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Time out for the scoop of the day. An Italian
cruise ship in the Mediterranean was stranded over the weekend
with no electricity, no hot water, and no air conditioning
for several hours. That would not be fun when you're
paying to go on a cruise and then all that
stuff happens. I wonder if they got like a discount
or a refund or.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Oh, I'm sure they were very well to go. It'll
be something, you think.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
And the first three of thirty original Bob Ross paintings
were sold at auction recently in Los Angeles, with additional
sales planned in London, New York, and Boston. Auction earnings
will be given to US public television stations. They saw
big federal cuts, and I think this is a really
cool way to do that. And I love the fact

(07:50):
that these paintings. I saw a video where they were
like just in a warehouse. Did you know that? And
every painting that he did he did I think three
versions of it. Oh really Yeah, So he did like
one ahead of time saying this is what we're going
to paint, and then he did the one that he
did on TV, and then I think there was a
third one for some reason. Anyway. Yeah, So they're auctioning

(08:10):
these off now. And the first few that sold. In
the story it says sold yesterday, but this was from
like over the weekend or a while ago. Well, let's
see the pieces of the sold cliff Side one hundred
and fifteen thousand dollars that was painted in nineteen ninety.
Home in the Valley two hundred and twenty nine thousand dollars,
painted in ninety three. Winter's Piece three hundred and eighteen
thousand dollars, painted in ninety three. His landscapes are rarely

(08:33):
seen on the open market. He painted them under a
work for hire deal, giving Bob Ross Inc. Ownership of
all of them. Are almost all of them. Bob Ross
was known for his calm demeanor and his catch phrases
like happy little trees.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
He was just say.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
He hosted four hundred and three episodes of the Joy
of Painting from nineteen eighty three to nineteen ninety four,
following a twenty year career in the US Air Force.
He passed away at age fifty two and nineteen ninety five.
So always loved that. And if I'm scrolling through and
I see that, I'll still stop and watch the video.
It's good stuff. Scoop of the day right here on
The John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 1 (09:07):

Thank you for listening to the John and Heidie Show
on a Friday. Excited for a comedy call today with
a very funny stand up comedian, Samantha Hale. She has

(09:30):
been listed as the stand up comic to follow. That
is quite the honor, Samantha. And You've got a new
comedy special that's out right now. It's called Horror Nerd.
And did this come out on Halloween Day?

Speaker 8 (09:44):
It actually came out just at the start of Spooky Season,
like the end of September, even though for me, Spooky
Season starts July fifth, but so it's been out for
the month of October. It's I'm just so happy to
be talking about spooky movies my entire career. That's what
I do. It's what I love, and.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I love that you get to do what you love.
I think that's really really cool. And I got to
tell you something that I love. When I was a kid,
I used to watch this TV show called Gilligan's Island,
and I watched your grandfather on that your grandpa was
the skipper. How cool is that?

Speaker 8 (10:15):
Oh, it's so cool. I mean, how lucky am I
that I have a box set of my grandfather that
I can you know, just turn on the TV and
see him hang Clinty Sweet from a tree and hang
him high. You know, he's been in so many great movies.
And then you know his father, of course, was a
aero Flynn's sidekick and a lot of the early swashbook
the movies, and they were funny guys. Their timing was

(10:38):
pretty amazing. So I would like to think that's where
I get it from.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Well, I think it's really really cool that you also
are in the spot light and people now, are you know,
growing up following you? How long have you been doing
stand up comedy? What got you excited about this?

Speaker 8 (10:51):
So I was doing the acting thing when I was younger.
I thought I am genetically inclined or forced to be
an actor, and so I was doing that for a while.
And I remember one night a friend of mine invited
me to the laugh Factory to see the women in
Chelsea Lately, and it was all these female comics who
were I was just so empowered by their confidence that
I thought, oh, let me, just try this stand up

(11:13):
class and I'll do it one time. And that was
like fifteen years ago, and here I am all these
years later. But what started me on the horror specifically
was actually the pandemic. So here in Los Angeles, all
the clubs were closed. I couldn't work, and I had
to find ways to keep myself inspired and motivated. So
I started going to horror filming locations like the Michael

(11:36):
Myers House, the Nightmare and Elm Street House and just
writing jokes about the film and about my relationship to
the film in front of the actual house, and people
loved it. So I just kept doing it. And then
all of a sudden I had all this material and
when the world opened back up again, the Hollywood Improv
was kind enough to give me a chance to do
this show. I thought it would be one time on Halloween,

(11:57):
and here I am four years later, and we filmed
this special at.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
The Hollywood Improv as well, and the special came out
like a little over a month ago. But when was
this filmed? Was it this year? Was it last year?

Speaker 8 (12:06):
No, it was actually a couple of years ago. Everything
takes longer than you would think when it comes to
post and when it comes to, you know, figuring out
where it's going to be distributed. It's definitely a process.
And also I should say here's another cool Hollywood tidbit.
So my friend Tom Dolby is the director and his
dad is Raymond Dolby, who invented Dolby. Pretty cool, huh.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
That is very very cool. And again, the new comedy
special from Samantha Hale, it's called Horror Nerd. Where can
I go if I want to find this special and
watch it right now?

Speaker 8 (12:37):
Apple TV, Amazon, Google YouTube. If you just like type
into your browser Samantha Hale Horror Nerd, it will definitely
pop up. But I would say Apple and Amazon are
probably the most common, Like everyone has.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Apple, And you're always doing the coolest stuff. What are
some of the other fun projects you're working on right now, Samantha?

Speaker 8 (12:55):
Oh, thank you. Yeah, I am always looking for ooh,
what can I get my spooky claws into? But we're
working on on a podcast that we actually released about
a year ago. We're still doing it twice and less.
It's called Horror Nerds Podcasts. And what I love about
that so much is it's not your typical movie review podcast.
It's kind of like horror themed SNL kind of a

(13:17):
vibe where we write sketches, we do voiceover, Like, for example,
we did a sketch remember in Halloween Loorist's dad is
a real estate agent. Oh yeah, yeah for Stroid Realty
and all of and like Jack Torrence from The Shining
is a real estate agent trying to sell hotels. We
have a pretty incredible voiceover artist that come on and

(13:37):
lend us their talents and we have a good time
with it.

Speaker 7 (13:40):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
That sounds like a whole lot of fun. Where can
I go to watch that?

Speaker 8 (13:44):
It is on YouTube streaming now.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
I love that. And it's got the same name as
the comedy special Horror Nerds, So that is like your branding,
that's spot on.

Speaker 8 (13:52):
Yeah, I'm building an empire, building a community of Hey,
were you maybe not the coolest kay, and maybe you
were an outside er you grew up watching Gary movies
because you got bullied or whatever it is. This is
a safe, fun place for you to feel seen and understood,
and you're going to get some great laughs out of
it because you're going to get all the weird joke.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
That's awesome, Samantha, Thank you for your time today.

Speaker 8 (14:13):
Thank you for having me.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
This is great again. Our guest today's been Samantha hay Ol,
very funny comedian. I've got a link to our new
special in the show. Now it's for today at John

Time now for the movie quote of the day, and
I think you're gonna probably get this. It's from twenty thirteen.
I'm pretty sure you and our daughter watched this movie
over and over and over. Here's the line let it go,
Let it go if I sing it from Frozen.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Yes, I did not watch that movie. You didn't know.
I think I've seen it once if I even made
it all the way through.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I feel you because the same I watched it, I
fell asleep. I've never seen the end of it.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
I thought it was horrible.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Did you really?

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Oh yeah, I couldn't even liked it though, didn't she?
I know it was kind of Yeah, that was a
thing whatever. It was.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Very old one. I thought you were a kid back then.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
You remember back in the eighties all of the really
cool commercials where there were young people like going to
Burger King and all this kind of stuff. A lot
of those people in those commercials have since gone on
to become extremely famous Oh really actors, So I'm gonna
talk about a few of them. There was a Burger

(16:25):
King ad that starred Sarah Michelle Geller, who went on
to do crazy huge things Vampires, the Cornflakes ad that
starred Keanu Reeves. Oh nice, I would like to see
that one. That's when I would look up.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
I think I'd check that out.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Brad Pitt was in a Pringles commercial.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Leonardo DiCaprio did a Bubble YOUM commercial, and Elijah Wood
apparently promoted cheese. It doesn't say what brand of cheese,
it just says cheese.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah, very nice.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Yeah, I think that's fun. I'm gonna look some of
those up.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
That's very very cool, Heidi. I appreciate you telling me
all of it.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
Yeah, then that's news to me.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
That's also news to me.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Fun fact for you, Heidie, John, instead of Happily ever
After some old German fairy tales and with if they
hadn't died, they'd still be living today. WHOA, I kind
of like Happily ever After. Better fun fact for you, Heidie,
was that John ancient Egyptians put dead mice in her
mouth to ease toothaches. Yeah, you'd quit thinking about your
tooth if you had a dead mouse in mouth. Fun

(17:56):
fact for you, Heiding that John Paddington Bear has two
births days, just like the Queen did. Paddington celebrates his
birthday in June twenty fifth and on December twenty fifth.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Right, so does the Queen have two birthdays?

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I don't know. The Queen had two birthdays as well.
I don't know. It's like her real birthday and her
royal birthday. I have no pull, and we'll do one
more fun fact for you, heiding. All of the sweaters
that were warned by mister Rogers on his TV show
were hand knitted by who do you know who?

Speaker 3 (18:22):
By his mother?

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yes, his mother.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
I love this.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
I love that too. Why don't you hand knit me sweaters?

Speaker 3 (18:27):
I do not nit?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Well, that's probably why would you like me to.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
Learn how to knit? If you some sweaters?

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Will you promised to wear the I'll do one just
see what it looks like. Several fun facts now I know.

(18:56):
Time now for some weird news. Craft has come up
with most unhinged mac and cheese flavor, yet taking comfort
to a whole new level. They just released apple Pie
mac and Cheese Yes, just in time for the holidays.
Limited addition flavor combines creamy Craft macaroni and warm apple
pie spices for a sweet and savory twist on two

(19:18):
of America's favorite things, yeah separately. Probably not toge. The
blend of cheese and apple sounds odd, but the pairing
supposedly has culinary roots and apple cheddar pies and fondo boards.
Following hits like Everything Bagel and Pizza Mac and Cheese,
this bold new mashup is now available in certain places

(19:38):
in the US while supplies last. So I'm not going
to rush right out to try it.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
I will not be trying.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
But if you try it, and if you think it's good,
you should let me know, because that just sounds weird
to me. That is why this is today's weird news
on the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 6 (19:54):
My Pillow is excited to announce the biggest three to

to eighty eight a color, any style, any size, even

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Time Now for the question of the day for Heidi.
Over half of those who buy these never use them
for the intended purpose. What are they? I have some
I don't think I've ever used them for the actual
purpose what.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
I have no idea?

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Running shoes. Have you ever seen me running in my shoes?

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Run?

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:42):
But I have a lot of tennis shoes.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yeah, you've never played tennis.

Speaker 3 (20:45):
I've never played tennis in them either.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, running shoes. As a matter of fact, I don't
even know where my running shoes are. I put them
in a gym bag and then I've not gone to
the gym forever.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
So, oh no, you've still got running sis in your closet.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
I have no idea. That is your question of the
day on The John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
The Heidie Show.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
Thank you so much for listening to The John and
Heidi Show, brought to you in park by jascasemedical dot com.

Time now for something special with Heidi Small. What you
got from me their Heidi.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I have the remainder of this list of dryer sheet hacks.
Things that you can do with dryer sheets.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
I remember that we talked about that you can.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
Place one at the bottom of a garbage can before
putting your trash bag inside or inside of a vacuum
cleaner bag in the car and I'll duffle bag for
a great smell, and if you put them in your
air vents, it will make your car smell really well.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
That's cool.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
You can use them on oven racks to get the
grease off, so as you're cleaning your oven racks, you
just scrub them with a dryer sheet and it will
help pull some of that stuff off. I think that's
really cool.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
That is very cool.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Scratchy build up accumulates on the plate at the bottom
of an eye iron, the dryer sheet will take it away.
So you know, sometimes when you I don't know if
you ever have had like that blackish stuff that can
get on the bottom of your iron and then it
can stain your clothes. You can get that off apparently
with a dryer sheet.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Well there you go.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
And the annoying squeaky sound that a shoemake sometimes when
you're walking is generally caused by a space between the
bottom and the liner or the insult sick. A dryer
sheet in between those two layers and fill in that
space and the squeak will go away.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Well that's good to know. Yeah, that is something special

kind of a cool story, Heidi. We like to wrap
things up around here with good news. A guy went

(24:49):
missing on Halloween. That's not good that's good news. But
two days later, the New York City Marathon helped save him.
Along Island. Family is crediting the marathon and a compassionate
strang for bringing their missing loved one home safely. A
guy by the name of Jack fifty five from Elmont
had severe intellectual disabilities, but he disappeared on Halloween after

(25:10):
he got separated from his group during an outing. It
said here that he was dressed in a costume. He
was excited for the day's activities, but he somehow got
swept up in a crowd after stepping off the bus,
and then he vanished. His disappearance set off a two
day frantic search. How do you survive in New York
City for today's with no food, no medication, nothing to drink, asked?
His sister said. We had a group of people out

(25:31):
on the streets looking for him. We made flyers, and
if it wasn't for the community, I don't know if
Jack would be here right now.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
For two nights he slept on sidewalks and survived by
saying trick or treat to strangers who shared their candy
with him. Oh my gosh, somehow he made it more
than seven miles from where he had was lost. On
the third day, thousands of people gathered for the New
York City Marathon. Somebody noticed Jack and they stopped him
because they're like, wait a minute, this is the guy

(25:58):
from those posters, and that simple act saved his life.
They feel so they said, whoever you are, thank you,
thank you, thank you. You honestly saved my brother's life.
They don't even know who it was that saw him,
and like, hey, this guy is the guy that's missing,
and they were done. They just moved on. The family
is now hoping to find that person and thank them personally.

(26:20):
They're deeply grateful and again, what a cool story. And
this could have ended so much differently. But Jack is
home where he belongs. So I love that. What a
cool thing. Time saying bye, heiding, heid you by everybody,
have a great day. Thank you for listening to the
John and Heidie Show.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
