on NBC and on Peacock. If you're a fan of
The Office, you're going to recognize some of the people
from this. It's also like the same producers and all
of that, a lot of the same stuff. It's the
same universe as dunder Mifflin, but now it's out of paper,
so it's called The Paper. So be chatting with Melvin
(00:48):

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Today is Cranberry relish Day.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Never been a huge fan of cranberry relis. Yeah, it's
but to me it's interesting. It's like, I don't know
why this is even what do you do with it?
I don't even know what you do with it?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Well, people put it, they eat it, they put on
their turkey, or they eat it. Please eat it with
everything else.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Yeah, I don't know what to do with it. Anyways,
the most popular thing I could think of with cranberry
would be a vodka cranberry, which lots of people drink.
There you go, and it's just vodka, cranberry juice ice
and a lime wedge. So put that on your Thanksgiving table.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
There you go. I do have a link to that
drink in the show notes for today at John and

Now surveys and studies and have you ever found yourself
yelling at the TV when the wrong team scored a
big goal? Not me, because I'm not a sports guy.
But the rage is not just in your head kind
of it is, I guess. A new brain scan explains
why diehard fans of like soccer and whatnot lose their
minds during matches. Researchers in I don't know where they
are somewhere Universidads San Sebastian, I don't know where that is. Anyway,
(02:51):
they found that fans watch their teams beat a rival,
their brains reward centers light up like they just got
done winning a jackpot or eating chocolate. But when the
composing team scores their emergencies emergency breaker, I'm sorry, their
brain's emergency brake goes on. It controls aggression, but it
goes kind of quiet. Hardcore fans show the strongest reactions,
when casual fans stay cooler. The findings suggest sports rivalries
(03:14):
tap into ancient tribal instincts, turning team loyalty into something
deeply personal and sometimes explosive. Science tells us it's not
just a game. Modern day tribal warfare is playing out
in your brain, so be careful out there. I'm not
a sports guy, so this is not I probably wouldn't
be a good sports fan because, yeah, I don't need
to get all wound up about that. I'm wound up
(03:36):
about other stuff surveys and studies and such. On The

Speaker 4 (04:33):
I mean, I didn't love it. I can't imagine why
it needs a sequel.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I guess because they ran out an idea a long time.
Speaker 4 (04:39):

Heidi, did you know the best strategy for winning at
Rock Paper Scissors is to be as random as possible?
So if you keep doing rock, rock, rock dumb?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
So I think everybody knew that every kindergartener knows how
to play.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
That I've always done rock. Social cognitive and effective neuroscience
found those who were influenced by previous rounds tend to
lose more often. They say that's easier said than done, though,
fifteen thousand games of Rock Paper Scissors also found people
struggle to be random when playing the a More than
half of the players favored rock or scissors. Actually, scissors
(06:10):
was the least favorite. People tend to avoid repeating choices
going for another option. So anyway, I don't know that
there's the science behind it.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
We need to study for this.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
I don't know, because well we need to. There's a

Time now for the joke of the day with my
beautiful bride, Heidi Small. What do you have for me today?
Speaker 7 (06:49):
Heidi?
Speaker 4 (06:49):
What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo?
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Hippo and a zippo? I know what they are. But
what is the difference.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
One ways a ton, the other is a little.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Lighter, lighter. The zippo is the it's a it's a lighter,
it's a little one. It's that's good, Heidi, that's true.
That does check out? That is your joke? Oh the
day on the John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Time now for the scoop of the day. And Jonathan
Bailey has now been crowned the sexiest man alive. So
here's my question.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
You don't know who that is?
Speaker 3 (07:52):
I was going to ask if you did. I bet
if we google him we'll go oh, I probably. So
it begs the question what is sexy? And according to this,
sexiness goes far beyond looks. According to Psychologist's Sense of Humor,
attraction is shaped by biology, cultural trends, scent, voice symmetry,
and even simple exposure to somebody. Over time, personality plays
an equally big role. Confidence Chrisman, especially kindness can elevate
(08:16):
somebody from being good looking to genuinely irresistible. And because
tastes shift across generations, cultures, and whatnot, what's sexy now
might not be sexy tomorrow. What gives one person a
feeling that somebody is sexy may be completely unappealing to
somebody else. There is no universal formula for what makes
you feel that spark. But the one thing that is
(08:36):
universal is I am not that so you are for me? Oh,
thank you very much. She told me I have sexy legs.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
You do.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
I'm a big till you let them put a frankenstein.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
I got a scar now, I'm a big guy. Every

Thank you for listening to The John and Heidi Show
this weekend. Excited to visit with Melvin Greg. He is
in a program called The Paper. It's on NBC, it's
(09:34):
on Peacock. If you're a fan of The Office, you're
gonna absolutely love. This is from the same people, it's
in the same universe, and we've got Melvin right now.
Tell me a little bit about your character on the Paper.
Are you anything like your character Melvin?
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Now?
Speaker 7 (09:46):
Really, there's phases of my life where I shared attributes
with Detrick, but overall not quite.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
It just recently launched on NBC and on Peacock, and
people are loving this. For folks that haven't heard about
The Paper, let's tell her a little bit about this show.
Speaker 7 (10:00):
YEA, so it is in the same universe as The Office,
the same documentary crew is kind of the connecting tissue,
and also Oscar as well, and the documentary crew discover
there's this paper is a local newspaper that's pretty much
going under, and there's an ambitious chief and editor who
comes in who tries to revive this paper and he
(10:20):
really doesn't have like the proper resources or the team
to do this, so he just enlists whoever's in the
office to help him build up this paper. And my character,
Detrick Moore, he sells ads for the paper, so he's
in sales, but he's infatuated with one of his colleagues
who works in the newspaper, so he looks at this
(10:41):
as an opportunity and really talk to her, and he
just kind of goes and had first and he's a
he's he's optimistic, he's enthusiastic, kind of childlike in a way,
a bit awkward, offbeat, but he's in love with this character, Nicole,
who he's doing anything and everything to get her and
just trying to figure out how he fits into this
(11:02):
new space with his new work team. And it is
an interesting ride.
Speaker 3 (11:07):
Again, it's called The Paper. It's on NBC. It's also
on Peacock And so are all of the episodes out
right now? Are they doing them one at a time?
Speaker 7 (11:14):
Yeah? Yeah, on a streaming is out now. All ten
episodes are up. I'm not sure how they're going to
do it on NBC, but yeah, it's all on the
Peacock right now, so you can go check it out.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
And The Office had a huge, huge following and some
of the same names involved. We had mentioned that, you know,
we've got at least one or a couple of actors
from the Office, but we also have like Ricky Gervais,
he was from one of the producers of the original
Office and very involved in the American version as well.
Greg Daniels is the one who brought it to America.
And those who are both involved in The Paper. What
(11:45):
was it like when you got that call where you
got to find out that, hey, Melvin, Greg you are
in You get to be in the cast of The Paper.
Speaker 7 (11:52):
Yeah, it was great, and like you said, is really
an identical recipe. We have the same showrunner from the original.
Most of the direct is the stelf for like one
we're directors from the original same executive producer, so it's
the same team as really kind of putting together this
show that lives in the same universe. So to be
able to be a part of it is definitely a blessing.
(12:14):
And it's great to be able to rely on people
who were so successful with the first iteration of the show,
so you can kind of just relinquish yourself to the
art and I have to really worry about too much
because you know you're in good hands. So to get
that call, it was just kind of like a big release,
you know it. As an actor, you can't you you know,
finding the opportunity is the hardest part, and to be
(12:35):
able to be on something like this it was it
was a blessing.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
That's awesome. Now, had you worked with any of these
people in the past, or was this your first chance
to work together with all these guys I have been.
Speaker 7 (12:44):
It was a whole new experience for me, which is
just great. You know, you like to I like to
be able to work with as many people as possible,
learn as much as possible. But everybody, everybody was great.
You know, we kind of messed together really well from
the beginning Greg Daniels and Michael Coleman are very collaborative
that make you feel very comfortable and able to bring
ideas to them, and they're very, very receptive. So it's
(13:07):
just been a great experience overall.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Again visiting right now with Melvin Greg and he is
on a program called The Paper on NBC and on Peacock.
Now you've had a chance to do a lot of
other fun stuff back in twenty twenty around the Way Back,
and what a weird time for movies to come out.
But what was it like working with that crew back
in twenty twenty.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
It was the Way Back. It was great man. Like
you said, the time was crazy because it's like it
came out on like fair Friday, and that Tuesday the
world shut down. Like that trailer, not the trailer, The
posters stayed in the movie poster sleeve at the theater
for months on end because it was COVID, so it
started looking like a post apocalyptic movie posted because all
(13:45):
the dust and stuff that collected over it because it
was one of the last films in the theater. But
we really didn't we weren't able to get a run
because of COVID. But it was a great experience man
Ben then is the best and the whole seeing Gavin
O'Connor all they got. It was definitely a great experience
and a learning experience with need.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
It was so weird, like you said, it was, you know,
in theaters one day and the next thing you know,
theaters are closed and everybody's streaming it. So and speaking
of streaming, you can stream right now and check out
the new project the Paper. It's on NBC, but it's
also streaming now on Peacock. Our guest today Melvin Greg Melvin,
thanks for.
Speaker 1 (14:21):

Speaker 3 (15:56):
I need some of these, right, yeah, what do we got?
Speaker 2 (15:58):
So?
Speaker 4 (15:59):
The first one is a chismus chisms. It is the
state of being faithless or disloyal.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Oh yeah, that's not good.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
And fractuous, bossy, and domineering. I'm sure some of you
can use that around the Thanksgiving table.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
For some relatives, you're being very infractuous, thank you very much.
They think it's a compliment. They're like, I appreciate that,
what's very nice.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
Clinomania What does that mean?
Speaker 6 (16:23):
This one?
Speaker 4 (16:24):
I would like to hear how somebody works this into
a conversation. The uncomfortable feeling caused by new underwear.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
I have that, though you do.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
I'm not a fan. My under were stay new for
a long time. I'm like when I get them broke in,
I'm like, hey, these are comfy. Then Heidi's like we
need to throw those away.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
That's clinomania, that is what it is. And exegnation eination
a feigned lack of interest in something while actually desiring it.
So you pretend like you're not interested, but you really
really are. Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
You do that once in a while. Yeah, sure, is
going to pretend like I'm very interesting what John is saying. Meanwhile,
I'm on playing candy Crushes same time.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Yeah, So anyway, that's news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi's John. More people speak English
as a second language then speak it as their native language.
So there's more people who speak English in addition to
other stuff, yeah, than speaking English.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
The world is a big, big place.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Yeah, well that's kind of cool. Fun fact. Ford's most
orbiting space junk travels at eighteen thousand miles per hour,
about seven times faster than a rifle bullet. Yike, Oh yeah,
don't don't step out into outer space. That could be dangerous.
Fun fact for you, Heidi that most tropical marine fish
could survive in a tank filled with human blood. Well,
that's not seem kind of gross to you. Let's do
(18:19):
a different fun fact for you, Heidi on the snowy
stay in history. One hundred point eight inches fell in
Italy in eighteen hours is a whole lot of snow.
And we'll do one final fun fact for you, Heidi XO,
cannibals eat their enemies. Indo cannibals eat their friends, So
(18:40):

for some weird news. German police discovered a Mercedes Banz
gl E four hundred equipped with something a little unique, Heidi,
homemade wooden brake pads. This suv from Mercedes usually comes
with metal brake pads. But it was bought at auction
and the new owner quickly noticed the brakes were barely working.
After Yeah, after towing this vehicle to a dealership, mechanics
(19:26):
found charred wood dust on the wheels, Oh my god,
and wooden blocks where the pads should be. Adding to
the absurdity, Brembo was written on them in marker, the
name of a famous brake pad brand. Cops are now
looking for the car's previous owner. So what did the
police discover. I'm trying to figure out why the cops
would be involved. Why would the cops be involved.
Speaker 4 (19:47):
Well, if the prison felt like they got ripped off,
they may be contact.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, it says it was bought at auction, so I
suppose they're probably trying to track down the person that
sold it to say hey.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
You can't sell they'll do that.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yeah, they wrote the name Brandon. That's hilarious, very bizarre.
It's weird news. On the John and Heidi.

six percent of couples say, this makes date night at

Speaker 2 (20:45):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (20:46):
We could do this easy date night at home romantic
home if you had a game candles? Yeah, oh wow,
echoes candles. We've got what can hundreds of candles?
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Right?
Speaker 3 (21:00):
We got a daughter getting married next year. My wife, Yeah,
she's like, that's a good deal on candles. I'm like,
I think we're done. We're gonna burn the venue down.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
We do evernut candles.

I'm done with all of my weird funeral.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Oh yeah, you've got stories, the fun ones you've heard.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I've still got a couple of days left. But this
one is from Tupac.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Yeah. And he made an off handed request in lyrics
from the song Black Jesus about what he wants to
happen to his body after his death that was recorded
in August of nineteen ninety six, just a few weeks
before he was murdered by a gunshot in Las Vegas,
and his cremated last wishes were smoke my ashes, is
(22:04):
what it said in the song. It's not something we
can play on the radio, but anyway, there you go.
So at his memorial service in Los Angeles Beach where
they ate the musician's favorite meal, which was chicken and
orange soda.
Speaker 3 (22:20):
Okay, that sounds good, that's not weird.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
But and then they took Shakur's cremated remains mixed them
with marijuana and everyone present enjoyed a little bit of tupac.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
What yeah, they did that?
Speaker 4 (22:34):

breaking them into smaller, more manageable tasks, and then not
doing those either. So yeah, that's good. I'm glad we
had it that. That is the list on The John
and Heidi Show.

A hero grandma pushes her granddaughter out of the car's
path and takes a hit herself.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
In California, a grandmother's being hailed as a hero after
a quick instinct saved her granddaughter's life during a terrifying
moment right outside of a school. The family says the
pair were waiting to cross when a car suddenly came
toward them. In a split second, she had to react.
What did she do well? She pushed her young granddaughter
out of harm's way and she was struck by the
(25:12):
vehicle instead. She's just the best grandmo there is, A
family member shared overflowing with gratitude, The girl's mother said
the outcome would have been far different without her mother's
courageous instinct. She pushed my daughter out of the way
and saved her life. God, if it wasn't for her instinct,
the grandmother's instinct, my daughter wouldn't be with us today.
The grandmother suffered some serious injuries had to go to
(25:33):
the hospital, but the young girl who was there actually
probably would have taken it where when she was pushed
out of the way, she still broke her clavical so
she still got some damage of this. The family hopes
that this incident brings awareness to a long standing safety
concern in this area. And I have seen people just
blow right through, like when there's a bus stopped or
(25:54):
there's like a stop, you guys, pay attention. Yeah, And
a lot of the time you'll look at the person
drive and they got a phone their hand, Yeah, put
it down and drive. Just be careful out there. Because
of this quick thinking grandmother, a girl is saved today,
all thanks to her hero, her grandma. Yeah, all right,
time say goodbye Heidi, bye, heiyo by everybody. I have
