Dakota that can be heard on over three hundred radio
stations around the country and around the world. And you
are listening to the podcast version right now. Here's John
and Heidi. It's Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
My beautiful bride is right here at my side. How
are you doing, Heidi?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, I'm great. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm fantastic. It is a movie star Monday, and I'm
excited to visit with Freddie Rodriguez. He's been in a
bunch of great movies, Seal Team six, much much more. Anyway,
we're gonna chat with him about his new film. And
it was filmed in Minneapolis, Minnesota because it was written
by and it stars a young lady from Minneapolis, Minnesota,
and it's called Blue Eyed Girl. And Boat Bridges is

(00:48):
also in this and he's the dad in this and
it kind of bow Bridges kind of feels to me
almost like a Hallmark movie, Okay, you know, because it's
this lady that's from Minneapolis. She moves off to the
big city and to La and then she comes home
to Minneapolis. So it's kind of got that feel. But
it's streaming on Amazon and other places. So we're gonna
chat with Freddie Rodriguez all about that coming up the Jon.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
And Heidie Show.

Speaker 2 (01:11):

Now with today's reason to Party, here's my beautiful bride,
Heidi Small. What do you got for me?

Speaker 1 (01:29):
There?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
On this day in nineteen seventy one, hijacker dB Cooper, Yeah,
parachutes out of a plane with two hundred thousand dollars
in ransom money during a snowstorm.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
So I've actually found a dB Cooper cocktail.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Wow, that's really cool.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Yeah. It's Bourbon seven up ice and a lime wedge.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I was always fascinated by.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
That, so I know you were. I knew you would
like that one's I think that for today's time.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
The thing that's interesting the dB I think they wrote
it down wrong. You think it was Dan Cooper or
maybe I don't know, somewhere there was a Dan Cooper
and there's a dB Cooper. Anyway, There's there's a lot
of stories online that you can read about that, and
I get sucked into them all the time because something
about that story just fascinates me. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
They never found the money, and they never found they found.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Some of it. Yeah, they found some of it, but
it's still unsolved officially, although there are people online who
have solved it.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
Fascinating.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, that is your what is it?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Today's reason a party on the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 5 (02:25):

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Now, surveys and studies and such, Finally science has revealed
the best way to keep bold seagulls from snatching your
food at the beach. You're supposed to yell at them.
Haven't we been doing that for I don't know generations.
Researchers at the University of Exeter tested how gulls react
to different sounds by placing fish and chips in front
of them. Their British researchers keep that in mind, and

(03:19):
they played three recordings, one of a man shouting, now,
stay away from my food, another was the same man
speaking calmly, and then another was a robin's bird song.
Studying the gulls across nine towns, they found that the
shouting worked the best. Nearly nearly half of the birds
flew away. Calming talking was less effective the birds Who's
going to respond to that.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Bird?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Chirping made no difference at all. Researchers say shouting prompt
skulls to retreat, while speaking only slows them down. Clearly,
there was money up for grabs and they needed to
grab some study money. If you guys know of any
studies that are so irrit I would like to do
my own study. I'd like to get in on study money.
Is when I'm saying so, I don't know about these
surveys and studies and such on The John and Heidi Show,

(04:04):

Shoe now big screen, little screen. After nearly a decade away,

(04:25):
the Four Horsemen returned to the big screen. Now you
see me, now you don't, And it's in theaters right now.
And a new popcorn bucket was available when this first
came out. I don't know if it's still available, but
it was twenty eight bucks for this popcorn bucket. That
is you know, they're doing a lot with movies now.
They're like, oh hey, buy this thing and Doctor Evil
and Mini Me. The costumes from the Austin Powers franchise

(04:47):
probably will not bring one million dollars, but they are
going for chump change. Maybe the two gray suits expected
to be sold for thousands. A lot of different people
are looking at that and many other items that are up.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Surprises me that they're not going to bring.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, they might.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I've got a lot of fans, and who.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Knows, maybe it'll go for more than they're expecting. And
James Vanderbeek has teamed up with prop Store to offer
a rare opportunity to take home some items from his
personal collection. So that's going to be happening December fifth
through the seventh.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I think he's the one who's trying to pay for
cancer bill like you could be. I'm in medical things.
That's unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Yeah, I've got all of this information, Yes, says all
of it will go to his cancer matter. You are correct.
I've got a link to all the info in the

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Did you know that a woodpecker uses the same tennis
same trick that a tennis player does to power their
strokes synchronize breathing. It was discovered by scientists at Brown
University that with every peck, woodpeckers exhale, forcefully boosting core stability.
I was poking my neck towards it. Yes, you were.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
That translates very well.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
I'm pecking this thing with my nose. You can hear it.
As athletes grunt during a serve, these birds take tiny
forty millisecond breaths between rapid strikes, hitting up to nine
times in one single second. Eight muscle groups from their
head to their neck, to their hips to the tail
work in conjunction with the stiff neck, acting as a handle.
Hip muscles adjust power, letting a woodpecker drill tougher wood

(06:44):
with precision and force. This pattern mirror is what happens
when tennis players grunts grunt rather during a serve. That's
kind of cool. We don't know everything, but now we
know this shoe. Thank you so much for listening to

the day with my beautiful bride, Heidi. What do you
have for me there? Heidi?

Speaker 3 (07:14):
What do you call nose without a body?

Speaker 2 (07:16):
A nose without a body. I don't know. Nobody knows,
No body No. I was thinking, who knows? That wouldn't
have been right? No body no. Heidi Small picks these jokes,
she thinks.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Okay, because the ones that I would pick.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, I appreciate it. I've been folks. You appreciate it too,
don't Yes?

Speaker 6 (07:37):
Do?

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Otherwise we'd be kicked off the air by now. So
let's just stick with these for the joke of the
day on the John and Heidi Show.

Speaker 7 (07:43):

Time now for the scoop of the day. Apple recently
unveiled their latest low tech accessory. It's the iPhone Pocket,
and the Internet has not held back at poking fun
on it steep price as well. The small knitted bag
has no zippers, no clips, just a stretchy pocket designed
to hold a phone and a few everyday items. The
shorter strap version comes in eight colors for about one

(08:35):
hundred and forty nine bucks. WHOA The crossbody version is
two hundred and twenty nine For comparison. They sold multi
packs of I socks for twenty nine dollars back in
two thousand and four, and it actually did get a
good review. The iPhone strap sold for fifty nine last September.
Designed with Japanese fashion label I see at mi Ke.
I don't know if I said that right. The new

(08:56):
iPhone pocket does have a sleek design, but reviewers and
social media users are roasting it mercilessly. And who says
a great night out has to last all night. Early
Birds Club is a dance party that is designed for
people who want to go and have fun, but they
also have to get up in the morning. Who was
designed by some friends Laura and Susie. The club offers safe,
joyful space to unwind, reconnect and dance between six pm

(09:18):
and ten pm.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
There you go. I like that.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
It began in Chicago, but it's expanding all over the
place now with early evening energy and judgment free dance
floors for new communities.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Judgment free dance floors, Yeah, exactly, the inter saying come
out and have fun.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
You're not going to feel out of place if you're
dancing at six pm instead of waiting until you know
nine or ten or eleven or twelve or whatever. Anyway,
they say they're now working with like wedding and barbar
mitzvah places and Early Birds have changed everything. They found
that the dance hours when they do this early you
can have fun and still be in bed by eleven.
So the older I get, the more I like something

(09:55):
like that. That is your scoop of the day on
the John and Heidi Show. Thank you, Thank you so
much for listening to The John and Heidi Show, brought
to you in part by jacecasemedical dot com. Do you
have a Jase case? You can get all of the
details for free right now at jascasemedical dot com. Thank
you for listening to The John and Heidie Show. On

(10:16):
a Movie Star Monday. Excited to visit right now with
the one and only Freddie Rodriguez going to talk about
his new project. It's called Blue Eyed Girl. And I
think this looks like a great program. But you've been
involved in so many great programs. You've been on the
TV show Ugly Betty, You've been on movies like Seal
Team six when you're out in the wild, Freddie, what
is it that people recognize you from the most?

Speaker 4 (10:37):
Oh, that's that's an interesting question. I you know, I
think it all depends on, like what your age is.
You know, I have, I have. I've been making movies
and TV for thirty years, and so it sometimes I
always sort of whittle it down to like your age
and and and how young you were when you were
watching whatever project that is So whether it is six

(11:00):
Feet Under Ugly Betty like you mentioned, or even the
stuff I did in the nineties, I get a lot
of people coming up to me saying, hey, I remember
watching I did a movie called Can Hardly Wait, which
was this like teen high school movie. Watching that when
I was in middle school. Or The Pest or Dead
Presidents or Walking to Clouds. I mean, it's it's just

(11:23):
I've had such a blessed thirty year career that I
think it all depends on what your forte is.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
And the reason I wanted to start talking about the
things from the past is because this new movie that
you're in again, it's called Blue Eyed Girl. It's about
a lady who's kind of going back to where she
came from. She's from Minneapolis, she moves away to la
and now she's coming back. Her dad, who's played by
Bow Bridges, is not doing well and it's kind of
a homecoming movie. So let's talk a little bit about
your role in Blue Eyed Girl.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Absolutely well, you know, to me, the film is about
the complexities of marriage and relationships. You know, Low directed
our film, and he wrote a beautiful film before called
Age of Adeline with Harrison Ford. And you know, so
our film is just this sort of good old romance movie.

(12:12):
And Marisa Coughlin wrote our movie, and she also stars
in it, and and and and we play a couple
and and and I think it's you know, the film
is about this family that to the outside world seems
perfect in some senses. Right, we're married, we've got kids,
we've got a house, we've got good jobs. But but
internally she feels this void, and she feels this sense

(12:34):
of unhappiness. And it's not until she returns back to
Minnesota to her father's funeral, who was played by Bo Bridges,
that that void and unhappiness comes to light. And then
she reconnects with an old boyfriend played by Sam Trammel
from True Blood, and and and the story ultimately becomes
how we overcome these obstacles in our marriage.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
In this day and age, you don't even need to
go to your hometown to reconnect with people that you
used to know, because we've got things like Facebook and
Twitter and Instagram and all of this stuff where you know,
that's all about reconnecting with people. So in this movie,
she's going home. But you know, in the real world,
I think people reconnect with people all the time, even online.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
So that's that's interesting. I didn't think about that. It
is and and and it's about look everyone, you know,
people are human, right, and things happen, But but what's
important in your life is you know, is your marriage
that important to to to fight for right and to
and to and to address whatever the void is that

(13:36):
that led you in that direction. And and I think
that that's really real. And I think people deal with
those situations every day without judgment.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Absolutely, And it's fun to reminisce to chat with people
from the past. But at a certain point, especially if
you're married like her character in this movie, there's a
line that you don't want to cross.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
Well, absolutely, and that's and that's what happens with our film,
especially when when she when when one of her ex
boyfriends is a is A is a big hunk like
Sam Tremmel. You know, I think that makes it even tougher.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
But luckily she's married to a big hunk as well,
this guy named Freddie Rodriguez.

Speaker 4 (14:10):
Hey, I'll take it. I'll take it.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Thank you now. The role you play in this film again,
it's called Blue Eyed Girl. For folks that are just
tuning in. It's a little different than the character you
play in some of the other movies. Is there a
character in any of the movies or TV shows that
you're in that is the closest to the real Freddie Rodriguez.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
I think that all the characters that play have a
piece of me. I think it's inevitable. And you're right,
and this one, you know, I play this sort of
you know, of a struggling artist, struggling writer, struggling to
kind of keep it together himself. And and that's not
me in any sense, but but but still, nevertheless, the

(14:49):
character still has certain aspects of me. I think. I think,
I think maybe his relationship with his kids and his
joy of being a father, maybe I relate to the movie.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
I love it. Freddie. Thank you so much for your time.
I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Okay, thank you for having me.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Take care absolutely again, Freddie Rodriguez. He's in a new
film called Blue Eyed Girl. It's streaming now. All the
details in the show notes for today at John adeidishow

Time now for the movie quote of the day, and
I think you're going to get this one too. As
a matter of fact, I just watched a clip of
this and I'll tell you the what came where this
came from. But here's the clip, or here's the quote.
How about a nice greasy pork sandwich served in a
dirty ashtray. It was from Weird Science. The older brother
Chet said that, and you know where the line came from. Yeah,

(16:06):
The actor Bill Bill Paxton is that his dad used
to say that to him after he was out drinking
all night. He'd get up in the morning and he's like, oh,
not feeling good. How about a nice greasy pork sandwich
served in a dirty ashtray. So he's trying to make
his son sicker. So there you go. I love that
it made it into a moon.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
I do too.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
That's from all these, he goes, so maybe he could
upgrade his uh, because vocabulary was they're quite festin it.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Foofaraoh having great volume or very large, imperious. I like
that convoluted, unnecessarily complicated.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Oh yeah, I have been to some very imperious events.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
And Cora the delusion that you are turning into an animal.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Oh yeah, that's not a thing. But I like that.
I like that. There's a name for that. There you go,

Saint Francis Xavier University's athletic team in Nova Scotia are
named the x Men and the ex women so X

(18:40):
for Xavier St. Francis Xavier. That's kind of cool. Fun
fact for you, Heiding. If your last name is closer
to the end of the alphabet, you are more likely
to be an impulse spender. What do you think.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
I'm definitely an impulse spender. My name was not always
to the end of the other back, I don't think
there's any truth to that.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Back before you got my last name, did you still Yeah?

Speaker 6 (19:01):
Oh, I guess.

Speaker 2 (19:02):

Time now for some weird news. A California driver took
a DIY a little too far crafting a hand drawn
license plate after losing their original. The highway patrol in Canada,

(19:47):
uh they pulled over a vehicle after noticing something a
little unusual about the license plate. Close inspection revealed that
it was a homemade creation, featuring roughly sketched letters and numbers.
The California plate logo was also a drawn on. There
even a fake registration sticker in an Instagram post. Officials
gave the driver points for creativity, but reminded them that

(20:08):
only state issued plates are legal. So yeah, so they
lost the real one, and I think in their mind
they're like, well, already paid for it, so I might
as well put something on here. E said, don't want
to get pulled over. Well that's not going to work.
They got pulled over anyway. And if you're wondering what
does it look like, I do have a link to it.
It actually looks pretty good. I mean you can tell

(20:28):
that it's hand drawn, but from a distance I think
it would pass. I've got a link to that. In

you have for me?

Speaker 1 (22:01):
Heidi?

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Have another celebrity death today. We're talking about Fidel Castro,
who is the communist leader in Cuba.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Remember many, many he was in all the papers, remember Yeah.
Despite his wishes for no big fuss. After he passed away,
Raoul Castro ordered Cuba to be shut down for nine
days for National Morning period. His body was cremated and
as urn went on a three day tour, visiting most

(22:29):
every major city in town in Cuba. The entire event
broadcasts live on Cuban television and radio. At the end
of the journey, Castro's remains arrived in Santiago, where he
was placed inside a hole carved into a two point
six ton granite boulder, and the opening was then sealed

(22:50):
and covered with a large green plaque reading Fidel Wow.
So he asked for no big fuss?

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Right, all right? That is something special with Heidi Small.

Speaker 7 (23:03):

stained glass. Join us at New Freedom dot online dot Church.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
It's time now for the list fun with Merriam Webster.
So say what you will about the English language, but
you have to admit that at least whoever created had
a good sense of humor. Phonetic is not phonetic? Oh
yeah yeah, if you think about it, abbreviation has twelve letters.
You think that would be a lot shorter.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
That's funny.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Thesaurus doesn't have a synonym, nothing, nothing crazy. Yeah. Mono
monosyllabalic is five syllables, so monosyllasyllabic. However, you say it
means one syllable, so it's a monosyllabic. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
It's incredibly rare to find a cranny without a nook
before it. Okay, if you hunker, you're probably going down.
Same with baton, be sure to add some hatches.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
What.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Okay, you rarely see scantily without clad and you shouldn't
be looking anyway, all right, not to pile on, But
every c in Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently. Oh hey,
I never noticed that. And uh isn't it cruel that
there's an asp in the word lisp?

Speaker 5 (24:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (24:45):
So whoever came up with this English language that's very confusing.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
I couldn't imagine trying to learn it.

Speaker 2 (24:50):
That is the list on the John and Heidie Show show.
Thank you for listening to The John and Heidie Show.

(25:10):
wrap things up around here with good news, and I
think this is good news. And I know several people
who are in motorcycle clubs who do good things, so
I love this story. A motorcycle club, several of them
unite to feed thousands over the holidays. For fifteen years,
a group called the True Breed Motorcycle Club has made
Thanksgiving in the United States a little brighter for families

(25:32):
in the Minneapolis area, the north Side, northeast to Minneapolis Night.
We had a friend from there.

Speaker 6 (25:37):
This year.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
They're gearing up for their biggest giveaway yet. So this
is kind of cool. It's become quite a deal, and
many other clubs join in with them. And there's a
person named Kim Smith, a longtime member of the Twin
Cities motorcycle scene. She and fellow writer Mike Oker have
watched this tradition grow year after year. They said it

(25:58):
started with seventy five frozen turkeys. Now it's over four hundred.
Oh wow, they say the year. This year's goal is
to provide four times that amount. Nice So they're hoping
to just keep growing and growing and growing. So they're like,
if there are people in need, we want to be
there to help them. Just the craziness of our political
situation right now, I was hurting people that are here
on these streets to meet the spike in need. The

(26:21):
group has launched an online fundraiser and they've done very
very well with that. I've got a link to it
here if you want to see all of that. I've
got a link to everything in the show notes for today.
So I just think it's cool when people step up
and do good things. And they had a goal to
raise like two point four thousand dollars to twenty four
hundred dollars and they raise pretty much that amount. So
it's great. That's really cool.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, that's wonderful.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
And again, the thing that I like about this is
that it's people helping people. You know, it's not the
government doing this, it's not even I hate to say
it's not a church doing it, because I don't mind
when churches do it, but I love when it's just
people helping people. That is so cool. Time say goodbye,
hiding if everybody great day. Thank you for listening to
The John and Heidi Show. On a Monday.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
