It's Wednesday, my beautiful bride here at my side. Hello, Heidi.
How's it going over there?

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Great? How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
I'm fantastic and I'm excited because I'm going to talk
today with Sherman Augustus. He is with Stranger Things, and
that is a show that when it first came out,
I had people tell me, oh, you gotta see this,
you gotta see this, And then I watched it with Heidi,
and Heidi watched like half of one episode. She's like,
I'm out, and I kept watching it. So I've I've
not seen the last season because like there was a

(00:45):
big pause between seasons, and then I haven't had Netflix
since I did, so one of these days I'm gonna
get Netflix and I'm gonna get all caught up. But
the final season, there's like some that's coming out now
some at Christmas time and some on New Year's Day,
but tonight some of the episodes are coming out, So anyway,
I'm gonna chat with Sherman Augustus all about that coming
up show. Thank you so much for listening to The

Speaker 3 (01:24):
It was jukebox day, of course it is. I love.
I always loved a jukebox.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Except I had one in our sun room and you
made me get rid of.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
It was not a jukebox. That thing was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
It was I used it as a jukebox.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
It was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
It was a kiosk with a computer in it. That
it was.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
It wasn't cool at all. It wasn't like a jukebox anyway.
All the cocktail of that is jukebox rebellion.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Oh nice.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
It is Ginger Ginger Syrup club Soda Bacardi Rum branded
Cherry Syrup. So the juice is in your brandy cherries
which is amazing and pineapp juice.

Speaker 2 (02:00):

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Now. Surveys and studies and such. A new study suggested
heading the ball like hitting a ball with your head
like in soccer okay, is not good for your brain health. No.
Researchers reported in Neurology that frequent headers can cause changes
in the brain cerebral cortex fold with more impact linked
to poorer performance on thinking and memory tests. The study

(03:00):
one hundred and fifty two amateur soccer players around New
York City averaging twenty six years old that was the
average age, compared them to seventy seven athletes and non
collision sports players who headed the ball most often up
to three thousand, one hundred and fifty two times a
year showed the greatest disruption in white matter in your brain.
The findings also add to growing concerns over sports related

(03:21):
head impacts.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
This is one of the reasons just common sense.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah you'd think so, but this is one of the
reasons I don't play sports. That's I just can't.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
That's why.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And every other reason is another reason. Surveys and studies
and such. On The John and Heidi.

Time now for the scoop of the day. A few
months ago, Nestley announced a Harry Potter line of coffee creamers,
which included the Coffee Maate flavors cauldron Cake and Peppermint Toad.
Now fans can add a third spellbinding potion to their
coffee mug, the butter Beer Creamer. It features notes of
butterscotch and cream and caramel or caramel, depending on how

(07:40):
you say. It comes in three versions, regular, zero sugar
and butter beer cold foam. Coffee Maate says it's the
first butter beer creamer in the US, rolling out nationwide
early next year. The company says that they're inviting fans
to transform transform their daily brew into something truly enchanting.
The creamer is gonna be sold in twenty eight. Twenty
eight outs bottles for a little less than five bucks.

(08:02):
So's there you go. And three brothers in North California
discovered a pristine copy of the comic book Superman Number
One while sorting through their late mother's attic. That's a fine.
They could fetch over six million dollars, potentially making it
the world's most valuable comic. Holy Attic also held five

(08:22):
early action comic issues including Superman's nineteen thirty eight debut,
brought during the Great Depression and preserved for decades because
nobody knew what was there.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
The collection astonished experts because it's in nearly perfect condition.
Heritage Auctions calls the discovery quote a life changing windfall
and a twist on the mom threw away my comic
story because.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Usually that's what happens crazy.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
That's cool, though, very very cool. That is your scoop

Excited a visit with a very talented actor, Sherman Augustus.
He is with Stranger Things and the fifth and final

(09:13):
season is hitting Netflix. There it's in three different waves,
so the first few episodes are coming out tonight, then
we've got some more episodes on Christmas, and then the
final episode New Year's Eve. What is it like Sherman
to be a part of this gigantic thing called Stranger Things.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
It's wonderful, you know, as an actor, these are the
kind of jobs that you hope you land.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Again.

Speaker 7 (09:35):
We've been talking about this, but it's so embedded into
the zechist of America worldwide. Actually now, you know, with
stage plays and everything, you feel like you accomplished something
that you conquered, Effett. When you get these kind of
opportunities to be in these shows that a lot of
people work so hard to bring everyone, it's a blessing.

(09:56):
And as far as the character, my character is concerned,
I really really really love the fact that I was
able to find a behavior for this guy, and you know,
people can't stand him, which is cool. That means I'm
doing my job and I it's just one of those things.
And you know, I like to joke about it, but

(10:16):
either I'm a great actor or just lucky. I think
the way I look at these things the character shows me.
And the reason why I say that is because when
you get gigs like this, it's very important for me
to let that character evaluate me and ask me these questions,
for me to find the right behavior in order for

(10:36):
me to come to the table with something that's going
to lend itself to a really, really, really good show,
because you don't want to be that guy that people
hate for the wrong reasons. You know, a lot is
that you know that that character, and you just want
to bring something to the table that helps propel the
story even more and just be a part of something

(10:57):
that a part of the team that's just telling some
really good storytelling. And I got to say the Duffer
brothers and Sean Leavy and every filmmaker, the writers, the writers,
everybody just stepped up to the plate and did their
thing each and every one of the seasons. Again I
said this earlier, I reiterated that Sean Leevey was saying.

(11:21):
The first premiere was that some little theater or someplace,
you know, auditorium or something like that. And then to
go from there to the Chinese Theater is you know,
that's a huge, gigantic accomplishment and.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
It's a global phenomenon now. And we had a chance
to watch many of the stars of this show and
the first season, the second season, they were young kids.
And then there was like COVID and there was a
writer strike and an actor strike. There's things that kind
of expanded it, and it made it take a little
longer for us to actually see the episodes, so we
got to watch them grow up. And you know, we
got a chance not on this show, but we got

(11:58):
a chance to watch you grow up a bit as well.
An actor for a long time, and programs like The
Young and the Restless, which also has a huge following.
How different is it when you're on the set for
something like The Young and the Restless or something like
this program here, Stranger Things, compared to some of the
independent films that you do. Is it like night and
day difference?

Speaker 7 (12:15):
It's not in day as far as when you're doing
a sult It's kind of like doing a stage play.
But in a stage play there is no cutting in
a retake, it's just straight. You know, you're in the moment.
You've got to be in that moment. Tasing is different.
And once you start doing these other things, because you

(12:39):
with those shows they're so fast, you know, X amount
of pages an x amount of time, x amount of days,
that kind of thing. We have to do this. When
you start getting to the streaming world, you're shooting blocks,
so you know, bad Lands, Lanterns, Stranger Things, you're shooting
these big blocks in each block in each episode will

(13:00):
take you maybe roughly alos a month to do, and
they're just I can't say many movies anymore, because each
episode is shot like a film and the scale is huge,
and so when you step on a set like that,
you've got to bring your a game because there's a

(13:22):
lot of components that work, there's a lot of departments,
there's a lot of people who work so hard, you know,
for a year, seven eight months before you even start
doing one take. So it's pretty magical.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Today to truth well Sherman, thank you so much for
taking the time to chat with us about Stranger Things.

Speaker 7 (13:39):
Hey, thank you for having me and Havy thanks.

Speaker 2 (13:41):

of episodes on Christmas Day on Netflix, and this season
and series finale on New Year's Eve. All of the
information in the show notes for today at John anddeidishow

was a great movie. By the way.

News to Me As we head to the News to
Me newsdesk with my beautiful bride, Heidi Small, I have

(15:31):
a couple more.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Days left of my ten dollars words.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Oh yeah, you've got some of these, don't you.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
So the first one is it's either pot valiancy or
pote valiancy. I don't know how it's supposed to be
pronouncing to hurry or hasten. Yeah, So if you're going
to try and throw that one around the dinner table,
you're gonna want to look up how to pronounce it.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
You don't want to sound like you want.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
To sound ignorant.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
No, sanguine, you don't want to sound sanguine.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
It is the state of being brave due to drugs.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
I know we're very saying there. Yes, I'm going to
start using that with my wife over here. You're getting
quite sanguine. Uh shivness shivness.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
An unpleasant feeling that makes you want to scratch.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
How do you spell that?

Speaker 3 (16:16):
S h I V V I N E s.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
S all right. I just wanted to make sure because
the way you pronounced it it sounded like a different way.
But I'm glad that that's how it's spelled, okay.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
And salsist is cloudy or stormy.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
Oh so if it's a cloudy or stormy day you
gets today, well, I'm going to start using that.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
Just one more day left, all right, and that's news
to me.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
That is also news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi, that job the British Royal
family is named after the British town of Windsor, not
the other way around. Okay, so the Windsor Royal family
named after the town. That's kind of cool.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
I didn't either.

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Fun fact for hiding. Originally the Eiffel Tower was going
to be erected somewhere else, but the project was rejected
because citizens thought that it would be an eye sore.
Do you remember where it was? I don't remember, Barcelona, Spain.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
Okay, because we have talked about it, remember where it was?

Speaker 2 (17:41):
And they're like, nah, who would want this ugly thing?
And then France was like, we take it. Fun fact
for a hiding. A rainbow can only be seen in
the morning or the late afternoon, but never at midnight.
I don't know, I added that last part. I didn't
know that it was only morning or late I didn't.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
I didn't either. I guess I've never thought about it.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
But well, I'm going to pay attention from now. I
will do one final fun fact for you, Heidi. There
are more public libraries in the United States than there
are McDonald's restaurants. If you think about that. There's a
lot of really small towns that still have a public library,
but they don't have one of those. So several fun facts. Now,
you know, thanks for listening to The John and Heidie Show.

Time now for some weird news. I'm not a fan
of shopping.

Speaker 3 (18:37):
But I'm not I love to shop.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
I'm not like this guy. A Russian man went to
extreme lengths to avoid a shopping trip with his wife
by faking a carjacking. Police say he deliberately damaged his
own vehicle, which was a Toyota Corolla, to make it
look like it was stolen, hoping that the crime would
get him out of going to the mall with his wife.
His wife reported the car missing, then later found it nearby.

(19:01):
When police investigated, they noticed the story didn't quite make sense.
After questioning the man, he admitted to the hoax. Now,
instead of going on a shopping spree, he could be
is a dog house to prison for two years. Oh
my god, because he filed a false report.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
Well he didn't file reports.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
It it was filed on his behalf. So yeah, here's
the thing, dude. Just go to the mall and here's
what I do. Drop her off right at the door,
and then say, I'll wait right here. When you're ready,
you call me. I'll drive right to the wrong pick
you up. And then i'd just get on my phone
and I goof around for forty five minutes, Okay, four
or five hours, it's how long it takes. Weird news
on the John and Heidi Show.

say they will not do this alone. I've done this
alone a lot. Go to movies, no fly, I've flown
by myself a lot. Would you fly alone? You've done that?
You went to a movie one time on your own?
You're mad at me? She was so mad at me.
She was probably the maddest I've ever seen her at me,

(20:33):
at least in the top ten because I've made her
mad a lot. Yeah, that is your question of the
day on The John and Heidi Show.

Time out for something special with Heidi Small What you
got for me there, Heidi?

Speaker 3 (20:59):
I have over the next few days some nice stories.
I thought it would be nice to have things that
people are thankful for around Thanksgiving. That is nice In
the United.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
States, I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
I have to clarify that because John said, it's not
Thanksgiving everywhere.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Yeah it's not. It's the Thanksgiving in the USA, but
not everywhere else.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Okay, So anyways, A man named Ismael Lazo is a
customer service agent for Southwest Airlines in Tampa, Florida. A
nineteen year old college student named Kira was panicking because
she was trying to get on a plane and they
would not let her on board with her beloved pet,
which is a purple beta fish and a portable carrier. Okay,

(21:37):
Southwest has a very strict dogs and cats only for pets.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (21:44):
Lazzo is sympathized with her, but they have a very
strict policy. There was nothing that he could do to
get it on the plane, so he said, how about
I take your fish home to live with me and
my fiance until you come back in the fall, because
she was leaving college for the summer. Yeah, she was
so so grateful. She texted him as soon as she

(22:05):
got home, and he was already on his way to
get a larger tank because it was in just one
of those travel ones. So he was going out to
buy it its own tank. Four months later she picked
up the fish and he was in perfect health, and
the Southwest Airliines agent said, to be honest, I was
worried about something happening to him on my watch, so
I was really happy to give him back. But that

(22:27):
is going above and beyond. It's like you would not believe.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
That's amazing. Absolutely, it is something special with Heidi Small.

Time now for the list. The past several years have
not been kind to some people with certain names. Karen
is one of those names because you know people refer
to somebody let me talk to a manager stereotype. Well,
it's one of the top ten baby names that have

around here with good news, and I think this is

(24:36):
a cool story. Two brave women spot a man rummaging
through a purse, and they step in to save the day.
So Levon Schaefsma took a day trip from Michigan to Chicago.
She expected, you know, she was gonna just soak in
the sites and do a little people watching. She didn't
expect what she actually got to see. Her purse packed
with her id OR credit cards, medications several hundred dollars

(24:59):
was gone. Oh no, she said. My anxiety started right
in my legs, and then in my gut, and then
on my chest. I couldn't think straight. Levon retraced every step,
searching for over an hour. Finally something nudged her toward
a gift shop. She had no real reason to believe
her purse would be there, but she walked in anyway
and asked the cashier if anybody turned in a purse.
The cashier's eyes widened. She said, yeah, all the tears

(25:22):
came out, she said, all of my anxiety came out,
and then the story came out as well. According to
the cashier. Two women were walking into the shop like
thirty minutes earlier with her purse. They were visibly shaken.
They told her they spotted a man on the bench
digging through this purse and something didn't seem right. So
the women approached him and they got into an altar

(25:43):
cations with this dude. They pretended the purse was theirs.
They wrestled it away from him. Oh my god, with
the person hand. They went into the gift shop. They
waited around to see if anybody had come looking anyway.
It was right after they left five minutes later as
when she came walking in looking for her purse.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Oh my god, Oh.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Wild is all I've got a link to this stuff.
All the stuff was still in Yeah, I don't know
how much stuff was missing and how much stuff was
in there. But she got her purse back. And if
you've ever lost a purse, I have lost so many.

Speaker 3 (26:09):
Purses, say it's a whole thing.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I've never lost a purse, but I.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
