Surveys and studies and SUS researchers say people worldwide spend
a surprisingly consistent amount of time traveling each day. Instead
of focusing on distance or fuel efficiency, the new study
highlights the need to shift travelers into modes of transport
that consume less energy per hour to meet climate and
energy consumption goals. McGill professor Eric mc eric Gailbraith said

(03:00):
most people, no matter where they live, average about seventy
eight minutes a day of travel, with very few countries
falling below forty minutes a day. This holds true across
all income levels. I feel like I travel less than
that on a regular.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
I travel a lot lesson.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, we used to work from home. Then I would
travel from one room to the other. We're like, oh,
what a commute. Now I gotta come all the way
to the office surveys and studies and such on The
John and Heidi Show.

to be temporary?

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I did not.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
They built it for the eighteen eighty nine World's Fair.
It was oh yess I did to know that they
were gonna leave it up for twenty years and then
dismantle it while the tower was repurposed into a giant
radio antenna, which saved it from demolition. And now it's
one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. Yes,

of the day on the John and Heidie Show. This
where I hand the microphone to my wife and then

(06:03):
I wonder why I do this? What do you got
for me today?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Why was Abraham Lincoln never arrested?

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I don't know what because he didn't break along. I
guess I don't know.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Because he was innocent. He was in a cent innocent.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Oh he's on the penny in a cent. I see what. Wow,
that's a stretch. Speaking of that, did you know that
they quit making pennies? I did, and they're going to
be like done done with pennies soon. So if you
got pennies, I don't know either cash man or hoard
them one or the other. I think there's two groups.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Now.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
That is your joke of the day on the John
and Heidi Show.

Speaker 5 (06:40):

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Time now for the scoop of the day. Okay, if
you've got kids, of a certain age and they're nearby,
you're gonna want to guide them out of the room
because we're going to talk some sensitive Christmas subjects here,
all right, here we go. Apparently AI is threatening to
ruin Christmas for kids. This is Kelly. According to a
person by the name of Kelly Bowron, she learned this

(07:32):
when her eleven year old son Leo, was asking Google
about Santa's spending budget per child. Oh yeah, the search
returned with a very blunt answer, which I'm not going
to say just in case there are kids listening, but
you can see it in the show notes. Born said
that she laughed in disbelief and reassured Leo, but the
incident left her annoyed that you know this is happening,

(07:54):
Like why would this happen? She goes, a I is
now spoiling the holiday magic. Their parents have faced similar disruptions.
Chatbots and large language models like Chat, ept, Google, Gemini,
and groc are becoming more and more popular. Experts warned
that with so many AI sources keeping some holiday secrets,

(08:16):
I'm really trying hard to make sure I read this
without saying anything could make it a little more difficult
for children of twenty twenty five. It's becoming increasingly easier
to find information on the internet anyway. Recent research found
fifty one percent of children age eight and younger have
their own mobile device. Thirty three percent of parents allow

(08:38):
their kids to access AI chatbots, including things for questions
like is Santa Real? So it's interesting. I never really
thought of that, but we had a great conversation with
our kids, even when they were kids, about the real
reason for Christmas. So absolutely you don't have to worry.

Speaker 4 (08:57):
About it, and maybe just keep your kids away from AI.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
That's a good idea too. That is your scoop of
the day on The John and Heidi.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Show, The Heidie Show.

Heidi Show, brought to you in part by Jacecasemedical dot com.

And it's time and right now for dear John letters.

(09:26):
J all right, I am so excited for this letter.
First of all, I got to say We've got some great, great,
great listeners who chime in with amazing advice, and I'm
kind of tempted to just steal their advice, because there's
some good advice. But I'm gonna read the letter and
then I'm gonna let my beautiful bride give her advice,
and I'm gonna say my little two bits. So here
we go, Dear John, My family is already driving me

(09:47):
crazy and we're weeks away from Christmas. We do a
gift exchange at Christmas each year. Sadly, my brother has
ruined that for us. Over the last few years. He's
completely forgotten to buy a gift. So whoever has his
name will buy him a gift. Whoever's drawn by him
will get the shaft. We've tried to fix this by
doing a different style of gift exchange, but for some

(10:08):
reason that was too difficult. Apparently this year we're back
to the old version. My brother is going to forget
to buy a gift. I volunteered to be the one
on the receiving end, but I don't need because I
don't need anything anyway. But now my mother is upset
that I made such a big deal of this. She says,
give him a chance to get it right. Mom, he

(10:29):
had a chance for the last six years. I want
to find out who he's supposed to be getting something
from him and secretly buy something for them. Would that
be wrong? Any other ideas? Signed sad little sister. So
here's the thing. Well, first I'm going to hand it
off to Heidi. I'll let you say your thing, because
then my thing might make you look very excising.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
We've actually gone through this.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
It was similar, bit different, Yeah, similar but different.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
And there was always somebody who was left out. And
I did start bringing an extra gift every year. He
is so good at that to make sure that that
those people did not feel it left out and embarrassed.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
It was a brother in our kades too.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Yeah, and uh yeah, it's very frustrating when that happens.
And and I talked to one of the people who
always ended up getting nothing, and she was saying that
it was embarrassing for her.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
It was very embarrassing opening.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
And she had nothing.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
So guess who had my name? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, so yeah, no, I I understand where she's coming from.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
And here's what we did. And it says here they
tried a different style of gift exchange, but for some
reason it didn't it was too difficult. Here's what we
had done. We switched it up to just.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
White elephants, where we bring so brought a gift? Do
you get a gift if you didn't bring one? Guess what,
you don't get to draw one.

Speaker 3 (11:49):
So, and here's the thing. Even though Heidi says that
like she's all tough, you didn't bring something, you don't
get to play, she still brings two or three.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
I still bring extras because she's just Heidi.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, that's what she does.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
I still bring extras. So if but I get why
she's frustrated.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Absolutely so, the question was would that be wrong? No,
that wouldn't be wrong because she was saying she was
going to secretly buy something for that person.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Just so, I think that would be very very nice.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Any other ideas. I think the other idea would be
to reach out.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
And it's unfortunate that somebody has to pick up the slack.
I mean that's not here's the other fair for whoever
has to do the extra.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
Absolutely so, here's another idea. Reach out to your brother
and just say, hey, dude, I love you. You're my brother,
and I love you like a brother and I want
to be there for you like a sister. So did
you who did you get for a name this year?
Did you already get them something. If it's a forgetful thing.
Here's what somebody online had brought up. They're like, what

(12:44):
if it's a financial thing, And that's where I was like,
you know, then I would feel really bad if you're That's.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Where I like the white Elephant thing better. Because if
you if you.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Feel like I'm not going to participate, I don't need to.
I'm good right, you know, And you.

Speaker 4 (12:56):
Can even just say I'm sorry, I just forgot. If
it is a financial thing, you just don't.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
You don't have to do it right. But here's the
thing again, this matters to you. You're already saying that
I'll just get a gift. So that person isn't, you know,
getting the shaft, as you so lovingly put it. Reach
out to your brother, this is what I would do this,
Write this down. This is the one, this is the answer,
this is the good thing. Reach out to him a
week before Christmas and just say, hey, I'm excited to

(13:21):
see you next week. I just want to I'm looking
out for you. I don't want you to look like
an idiot. Because this has happened so many times, we
went back to who do you have? Did you get
him something. Do you want me to help you, I'll
gladly help. I'll even get something if you want have
that discussion. I have a sister, who does.

Speaker 4 (13:37):
That be the responsibility of somebody else. It shouldn't be.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Tell my sister Julie that exactly I mean.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
And that's just it, because then somebody ends up having
to buy four extra gifts in our particular situation.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Yeah, and it's just as if they wouldn't have known
now that anyway, Thank you, Thank you so much, sad
little sister for sending that in. And I think it's
funny that your brother does what my brother does, so
that's awesome. If you would like to chime in with
some advice, I love my brother, by the way, I
want to make sure I say that too. If you'd
like to chime in with some advice for a sad

(14:12):
little sister, you can do that at Facebook dot com
slash John and Heidi show.

my beautiful bride Heidi Small and I'm gonna read this

People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
You know it.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
I have no idea. Oh it's Man in Black Tommy
Lee Jones.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
Oh yeah, yeah, I never liked that person.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Is smart, but people are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and
you know it. So yeah, I thought I thought. I
even tried to do it. In his tone, he was
very very stern, first stern character.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
I've I watched that movie part of it maybe once

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Oh yeah, these are fun.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
Yes. So here we've got Juicy Whip versus Orange Bang.
What I'm assuming it was a copyright must United States
versus approximately sixty four ninety five pounds of shark fins. Okay,
Nebraska versus one nineteen seventy two door Sedan Rambler Gremlin.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
Okay, Wang versus Poon Wang versus Poon Okay, Robin Hood.

Speaker 4 (16:23):
Versus the United States Association of Irritated Resident versus the
United States Environmental Protection Agency. Oh wow, And my personal favorite,
South Dakota versus fifteen impounded cats.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
That's what it was. It's my home state of South
Dakota doing this proud. That is news to me. Right
here on the John and Heidi Show, I'm Chris from

eighth place in the Olympics receive a paper Olympic diploma,
but no metal. Can I see your medal? Nope, you
can see this. It's just as good as a metal mom.
Fun fact for you, Heidi John Microsoft has tried and
failed to buy Apple and Comcast and AT and T

(17:41):
and Best Buy and Facebook. So they've tried to buy
all of those and they did not get her done.
Fun fact for you, Heidi. An oil tycoon by the
name of armand Hammer once tried to buy the company
that makes arm and Hammer baking.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
So nice.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Yeah, that's pretty cool. Fun fact for you, Heidi, James Kraft,
center of processed American cheese, was not American. He was Canadian,
which I don't know if you know this. That's also
part of America. So we'll do one final fun fact
for you, Heidie. In addition to wooly mammoths, there were
also wooly rhinos. Really, I would kind of like to

(18:18):
see what a wooly rhino look like. He probably like
a rhino, just woolier. I'm guessing several fun facts now,

some weird news. I've got an interesting story here. Everton's
ADRESSA guye became the first Premier League soccer player in

(18:50):
over fifteen years to be sent off for fighting with
a teammate. Now, I'm gonna apologize ahead of time. I
probably said this person's name wrong because I don't know
anything about sports. I don't know who this is But
the shocking moment came just thirteen minutes into the match
at Manchester United when Guy A angrily confronted defender Michael
Keene after a near miss by the home side. He

(19:11):
slapped Keen in the face, prompting referee Tony Hardington to
issue an immediate red card. The incident drew comparison to
another dust up that happened in two thousand and five.
Premier League late later reviewed the footage and upheld the
dismissal for violent conduct. He later apologized to his own
teammate and to the rest of their team so well,
he got booted out of the game for smacking his

(19:33):
own teammate.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
That's not nice.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Maybe it should be nice. Maybe I should start watching sports.
This sounds interesting weird news right here on the John
and Heidi Show.

Speaker 1 (19:42):

Time Now for the question of the day. I don't
know why I have this so late. This is like
Thanksgiving question here. But Heidi, at the first Thanksgiving in
sixteen twenty one, you would not have found this at
the dinner table.

Speaker 5 (20:25):
What was it?

Speaker 3 (20:27):
I don't know why I'm getting this.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
I have found this at the entertainment.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
You would not have found the utinsil of this kind
a fork A fork? Yeah, there was no fork, So
apparently there were spoons.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
I'm not trying to think of different kinds of a spork.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
I'm not sure, but yeah, that they didn't.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
Have forks with their hands, like a bunch of heathens.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
We did that once for about three months we had
we had no forks. We had our kitchen packed up.
That is your question of the day on the John

Time now for something special with Heidi Small, my beautiful
bride over here with something special. What do you have, Heidie?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
I have some more word definitions that have changed, and
I really like these. This was This is probably one
of my favorite segment.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
This has been really cool. Yeah, we've learned a lot, Heidi.

Speaker 4 (21:24):
So stripes are currently decorative parallel lines. Yeah, there used
to be lines left on the skin from a lashing. Oh,
I didn't know. I did know that. Actually accent to
add value or to emphasize. Yeah, it used to mean
to sing, huh, dinner is the final meal of the day.

(21:46):
It used to be the first meal of the day.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Really.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
Nuisance is a simple annoyance today, and it used to
mean heinous injury or harm.

Speaker 3 (21:57):
Oh wow.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
And fun is obviously no amusement yay. And it used
to mean to cheat or hoax someone.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
You're gonna fund somebody. That is a lot of it.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
Quite a shift and a definition.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
They're a lot different. Yeah, well that's pretty cool. It's

Time out for the list. I have some holiday habits.
With the busy holiday season arriving along with cold and
flu season, here are some things to keep your immune
system healthy. According to somebody named Lena When she's a
clinical associate at George washing To University and a CNN
wellness expert, she says, stay physically active. Regular exercise strengthens

(23:07):
your immune system. So they say one hundred and fifty
minutes of moderate high intensative whatever you call it. Can't
even say the word high intensity activity per week. That
sounds like a lot. I'm gonna probably come short on that.
Cut down on ultra processed foods, they say, junk food
is loaded with preservatives and mulcifiers, dies artificial things. So

(23:30):
eat whole foods. I tried that once I had a
whole pizza. It didn't seem to help. And number three
on the list improve sleep quality. Getting fewer than seven
hours of shut eye reduces your immune defenses. They say,
prioritize eight hours in bed because then you might get
seven hours of sleep. I've got this entire list in

(24:17):
A school bus driver rescued missing four year old from
a lake. So the school bus driver in Minnesota hailed
as a hero when she spotted a four year old
boy running toward a lake and jumped into action. Literally.
Her name mebal me E b a l Kanaya. I
don't know if I'm saying that right Kaa n y Ai. Anyway,

(24:38):
she drives a school bus for the school system there
and she had just finished her afternoon route and she
saw something that kind of caught her eye. A kid,
a little guy, running down the street. She said. The
boy is crying, dressed only an underwear and short sleeved shirt,
had no shoes and jacket. It was very cold. She
didn't know what to do. She had just called nine

(24:59):
one on to report him missing when she realized he's
heading right for the water. Oh my gosh, and she
couldn't just wait for nine to one one. She said,
my heart skipped. I immediately secured my bus and I
sprinted after him. By the time she reached the shore,
the boy had already fallen into the lake in a
pretty deep section and began to struggle. This is the

(25:20):
part that makes her even more brave. She does not
know how to swim, but she jumped in and helped
him anyway, so that is a hero. Yeah. So anyway,
the police get there, they find the boy safe on
the bus. She put the boy on the bus. They
both were trying to warm up. Anyway, She said, we
need to live in a society where we care for
one another. When they were like, why would you have

(25:42):
done that, she goes, well, that's why officials say she
will formally be recognized with a life saving award. I
love that. What a great, great story. I've got a
link to it. It's in the show notes for today

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
