Speaker 4 (00:26):
I'm good, How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
I haven't seen you forever. It's been well. I guess
it's we're together all the time. I've had people ask
They're like, you work with your wife, you live with
your wife. You guys are together all the time.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
How do you do that?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I'm like, I don't know. I think she's awesome. So
do you have a problem with my wife? Is that
what you're trying to say? Hey, guess what. I've got
a guest today, Chris Matthews. You might know him from Hardball.
He's also a best selling author and he's got nine
hundred and ninety seven books out. I don't know, maybe
maybe less than that, but he sold millions of copies
of the ones he does have out and he's got
(00:58):
a new one out about Robert Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy RFK.
So he's got this book. It came out last month
on rfk's birthday. We're gonna chat with him all about
it coming up.

Today is National Repeal Day. This is when prohibition ended.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
That's when they when I had their first legal drink.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Yeah, this is when they had their first legal drink.
And I found a cocktail called prohibition. Oh yeah, and
at his gin orange liqueur lemon juice and honeysyrup. That
sounds very interesting, all.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Right, that sounds phenomenal. I think it sounds weird, But
I do have a link to the drink and the
show notes for today at John dheidishow dot com.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
I'm Chris from Izzy. If you've got a Pokemon collection
that you're looking to sell.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
I'm looking to buy it.
Speaker 5 (02:03):
No collection too big or small will buy it all.
If you have a collection, or your kids have a collection,
just reach out when you tell you what it's worth.
Most people have no idea what's sitting in their closet.
Stuff you bought for a dollar back in the day.
We were thousands today. If you have a Pokemon collection
that you don't need, you can sell it and get
money for things that you do need. Reach out to

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Now. Surveys and studies and such parents argue with their
teens more about driving than anything else, even dating. Two
thousand parents involved in this survey in the US. And
I'm going to just hit the highlights here. There's a
whole paragraph I'm skipping. If you want to read it,
it's in there. But no phone usage at all when driving.
(02:50):
I agree with that. Seventy three percent say that's the
big thing.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Agree with that.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
I agree with that. Next, they must always tell me
where they're going. Sixty one percent. I agree with that too. Kids,
let me know where youre going. I'm talking about our kids.
What are you doing? You're making fun of me be
home by a certain time of night sixty percent. No
driving when tired fifty two percent. That is important. Yes,
I fell asleep with driving once, bad, bad bad.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I fell asleep all the time when driving, and you
refuse to give up the steering WHINB.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Now I pull over and take a nap. They must
text me when they arrive at the destination fifty percent.
They must have tracking enabled on their phone so I
can see where they are forty three percent. Well, then
that might be a bit much, but it's pretty good idea.
No eating while driving forty No passengers that I have
not approved thirty eight percent. No driving past a certain
(03:36):
distance from home twenty seven percent, and the last one
on the list, no driving at night twenty two percent.
I've got that entire thing in the show.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
Feel like we had those arguments with that.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Our kids were. Yeah, they were pretty good, and at
least when when we were around surveys and studies and
such on The John and Heidi Show, The Hedi Show.
Thank you for listening to The John and Heidie Show.

new take on The Exorcist. Upcoming film will tell a
whole new story set in the Exorcist universe. So it's
not really a sequel. It's called The Exorcist the Believer apparently.
(04:27):
Oh oh, that was the original, So it's saying it's
not really a sequel to that. It's a whole different thing.
And if you're going through withdrawal symptoms. Now that Yellowstone
has ended in season two of nineteen twenty three is finished,
you'll be relieved to know there's more Yellowstone a coming,
along with a still untitled spinoff featuring characters Beth Dutton
and Rip Wheeler. CBS has confirmed rumors that yet another
spin off the show, working with the title Why Marshals,
(04:49):
will feature Luke Grimes and a whole bunch of other
folks here. So there's quite a bit of stuff coming out.
That's March first on CBS.

Heidi, did you know some turtles can breathe through their boy?
What does that sound made up? That's the headline. This
isn't John just being silly. That is exactly the headline.
Certain species of turtles, like the Australian Fitzroy river turtle
have the ability to absorb oxygen through their colloquia, a
multipurpose opening that is also used for other things. The
(06:17):
adaptation helps them submerge for extended period of time, sometimes
up to five days, without needing to resurface for air
because they can breathe through their butt. Interesting, do I
feel twelve? I do because that made me smile. We
don't know everything, but now we know this.

I don't know what did you say?

Time now for the scoop of the day. Heidi is
gonna love this story. Hot tubs and saunas can both
relax your muscles, but a University of Oregon study found
hot water immersion offered stronger health effects. Researchers compared traditional
saunas and infrared saunas and hot tubs in young active adults,
measuring temperature, blood pressure, and heart activity, and immune markers.
(08:10):
Hot tubs raised core temperature. The most boosting blood flow
and triggering beneficial inflammatory markers that play a positive role
in the bodies and adaptive response. The same inflammatory response
occurred after exercise as well. Well, let's just do the
hot tub. Inflammatory and immune response continued after the hot
tub session. By the way, exercise provided a similar or
(08:32):
greater benefit. Heat therapy, though, can help people who can't
or won't exercise as long as it's done safely. So
that is why I love my hot tub and Chinese
startup Lnvy Bioscience. I don't know if I said that right.
They claim they've developed a pill that could potentially extend
human life to one hundred and fifty years. The Holy
Grail is what they're calling this pill. It could boost
(08:55):
not only your lifespan, but also reduce age related diseases
by improving all your health. The drug is based on
a compound from a grape seed previously linked to longer
survival and rodents. It's working by targeting zombie cells aging cells.
It stopped dividing but still cause inflammation. Inflammation test showed
mice lived about nine percent longer overall, sixty four percent
(09:18):
longer once treatment began. The company's chief technology officer said,
living to one hundred and fifty is definitely realistic. In
a few years, this will be a reality. Don't sign
me up for that. I don't thank you. I don't
really want to do that. That is your scoop of the
day on The John and Heidie Show.

Excited to have best selling author and you know I'm
from Hardball. His name is Chris Matthews. He's got a
(09:56):
new book out right now. It's called Lessons from Bobby
ten Reasons Robert F. Kennedy Still Matters. And this was
published recently, and it was published on kind of a
special date. Tell me a little bit about that.
Speaker 8 (10:07):
Publishers one hundredth universary of him. He was born in
nineteen twenty five, one hundred years ago, and it to
celebrate that fact. And I guess to remind people that
there was an RFK before there was an RFK junior,
and to talk about the guts he had and desegregating
all those southern universities like Ole Miss and University of
Alabama and the Holmes as he say, basically you can
(10:29):
see it on the football field. Those are integrated schools
academically and athletically. And he did that. He also pushed
his brother to do the Civil Rights Bill in nineteen
sixty three. He was really the man behind it, and
he helped him through the Cuban missile crisis. He did
so many great things and I've be glad to talk
about and we can learn from him.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
And Robert F. Kennedy, or as a lot of people
call him Bobby, He was kind of ahead of his time,
wasn't he He was?
Speaker 8 (10:51):
He said, for example, maybe you're not old enough. Perhaps
that nobody's all as me, I guess. But the Bay
of Pigs was in nineteen sixty one and the attempt
to retake a cube of the liberators expatriates, it didn't work,
and right after that battle was lost to Castro, Bobby
Kennedy said, they're gonna put missiles in that country. They're
(11:12):
not gonna let us try this again. They're not gonna
let us come back there with force next time. And
he predicted the missiles and they showed up in sixty
two in the Cuban Missile crisis, and that's when he
started out as a hawk. He wounded up going there
and bombed the place, including all the rushes. And he said,
wait a minute, that's not what we do. We're not
the Japanese. We don't attack Pearl Harbor style. And he said,
we got to figure out some other way to do this.
(11:33):
So he really got his brother, who was smart enough too,
but he got him through the Cuban Missile crisis and
avoided the nuclear war.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
And just imagine if somebody with like a different temperament
would have been in charge, it could have been a
whole different outcome.
Speaker 8 (11:46):
Well Nixon, for example, Richard Nixon had won that election. Yeah,
who knows what a bad temper would have done. You
can't operate like that, you can't operate on the base
of your of your moods. You got to step back
and go like he did during civil rights. He said,
you know, and this is a line that not of
people are not going to accept them, but it's true.
Back in the early sixties and late fifties, people referred
(12:09):
to African Americans as negroes. It's an old time term,
and that maybe taking his derogatory. Then he said, I
didn't lose a lot of sleepover negroes before I was
Attorney general. And then he got his top eight John
Sigathor got it head smashed in the head with a pipe,
and all of a sudden he's in the fight, and
he saw the white crowds attacking him. And when he
(12:30):
tried to integrate with James Meredith back in Old miss
and Mississippi University, and he realized the fight and what
it's about, he got into it and he was identifying
with it.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
And when you think about the Kennedy family, I mean
a family of means, very very wealthy family. And he
could have, you know, with a silver spoon in his mouth,
done kind of whatever he wanted to do, or could
have done nothing. But the thing that's amazing is he
chose to take a completely different path. And even though
he didn't have to work, he had a pretty important job.
Speaker 8 (12:58):
Well, somebody Jack knew. I think it was the commist
who said he spent his life with diplomats and celebrities
and all kinds of rich people and the astronauts and
mountain climbers. And he said he died shaking the hands
of a seventy five dollar a week Hispanic African Michigan
Mexican American dishwasher. Yeah, that's where he spent his campaign,
(13:22):
that last campaign with minorities. And yet when he died,
the people along the rail tracks along the Cellar Route
between New York and Washington, and we're African and American,
huge numbers of in Philadelphia singing the battle of held
of the Republic and white working people all through that
rail ride, all the way that four hour rider river
was and they were out there saluting him. It was
(13:45):
an emotional connection from both communities, even though they were separate.
Both communities looked to this guy as their hero. It's
rare in American politics.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
And had he not been assassinated, he most likely would
have gone on to become president. And think about how
different the could have been.
Speaker 8 (14:01):
You know, I'll tell you one thing. It is impossible
to know which way Dick Dally, the mayor of Chicago,
is going to go on that one. I don't know,
I don't know, I don't know, except that he was
going to campaign from early June all the way through Chicago.
He would have gone to the convention in Chicago. It
would have been a different convention. It wouldn't have been
a police riot. It wouldn't be in the police and
the kids would beat Bob out there standing as a
(14:24):
person who could end the war. And I think it
would have been different. The whole memoril climate of it
would have been different.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Again, our guest today Chris Matthews, and he's got a
new book out. Chris, thank you so much for taking
the time to chat with us about the new book.
Speaker 8 (14:38):
Thank you John again.
Speaker 3 (14:39):

Robert F. Kennedy Still Matters again. The author Chris Matthews.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
All right, I have some more word definition changes. I'm
ready volatile today means increasingly tense. Used to mean birds, bugs,
or other creatures that fly. Oh really, they were volatile.
Apparently addict is someone who has an uncontrollable dependency. It
used to mean to a ward as a slave.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Oh wow, that's weird.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Sad which a person of any gender who practices magic.
And it used to mean a man who practices magic.
So used to have to be a man to be
a witch. Apparently, notorious is infamous today, and it just
used to mean famous. Debacle is a complete failure, and
it used to mean to break up ice on a river.
(16:56):
I'm going to debacle that river.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Yeah, anyways, that is news to me.

Fun fact for you, Heidi. Giraffes are the only animals
born with horns, so all other animals grow their horns later,
but giraffes are born with their horns. Fun fact for you, Heidi.
The year on a bottle of wine refers to when
the grapes were picked, not when the wine was bottled.
So that's the vintage of you know whatever, it's that's
(17:56):
the good just saying good grapes that you're Heidi. Fun
fact for a Heidi. A giraffe's tongue is on average
twenty one inches long. It's with all the giraffe stuff.
Fun fact for a head. Cows greet each other by
licking their faces and their necks. We do that too
once in a while. Usually we never see those people again.
And we'll do one final fun fact for you, Heidi,
(18:18):
was that john mosquitoes were found in Iceland for the
very first time last year. Up until last year, there
were no mosquitoes. Another mosquitoes are like, hey, we like it.
Here several fun facts now, you know, thanks for listening

Time now for some weird news. A Tennessee homeowner taking
a shower surprised to see a six foot snake in
his bathroom.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
Oh gosh.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
The president of Trapper J Wildlife Specialists, they got the call.
They went at about eight am. The homeowner went to
the house. He'd gotten out of the shower and seen
his snake slither across across the floor. The snake was
gray and it was a rat snake about six feet long.
Nipper told news too, it's a non venomous snake. The
homeowner had some plumbing work done and had never had
(19:19):
time to close up the patch of drywall where they
had done that. Nipper said, the snake like crawl spaces,
and they will follow plumb snakes into the wildlife in
the area. So they didn't like kill the snake or anything.
No other information immediately available. I have a link to
the story. By the way, I wake you up in
(19:40):
the morning, wouldn't it the story? If there's somebody hearing
this going that sounds really familiar. I look to see
it's from twenty twenty one, So this was in my
email for a while, So sorry, that is some weird
news on the John and Heidi Show.

regarding our appearance, this happens twenty six percent of the time.
What is it? Oh, it's way more for me, hardly
ever for you. I have no idea a bad hair day.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
You I have bad hair, Dames.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
My hair looks amazing. What'd you do today.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
I did absolutely no, and it looks great.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
Look at mine. I don't even know what it looks like,
but I guarantee it.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Least I washed it last night.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
So my hair, especially this time here wear a hat
because it's cold, and I take my hat off and
I'm like, why do I even bother having hair? This
is your question of the day on The John.

you have for me here?
Speaker 4 (21:19):
You've always been a huge fan of game shows?
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Oh I love game show?
Speaker 4 (21:22):
Me not so much, but you just noticed love them.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I do.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
The first ever TV game show in the United States
was called Cash and Carrie and it was on in
nineteen forty six. Wow, and it was produced in a
supermarket full of only products by their sponsor, which happened
to be Libby Okay, and contestants had to guess the
prices of things they had to guess what was hidden
(21:47):
under a barrel or what food. A mime was silently
explaining it didn't last long, lasted a year.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
And another fact is on the TV show Who Wants
to Be a Millionaire? We actually did used to watch
that one together quite a bit. Contestants get a lifeline
to telephone a friend if they get a difficult question,
and these potential friends are pre selected. Yeah, and to
prevent cheating, including looking up the answers and books or
on the internet, they are fully briefed. There are fully
(22:18):
briefed security offers from the show that are sent to
the house to watch over them during during the show,
just in case they happen to get a call.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
So there's like.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
There's security guys standing there and making sure you're not
going to be dirt cheater.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Just watching it on TV with security I think I
know this one though.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
I just thought that was really interesting.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
That really is that is something special with Heidi Small.

Time now for the list the best foods to eat
during cold and flu season. So if you struggle with
cold and flu season like many people that I know,
here are some things you want to maybe add to
your diet. Oranges, strawberries, yogurt, leafy greens, and other foods
that are fortified with vitamin D like milk, orange juice,
and breakfast cereal. Also salmon, chicken, and there's a thing
(23:34):
called keefer k e f i R. It's a fermented
dairy drink. Never heard of that, Garlic, sauer kraut, oysters, lemons,
and Grandma's trusted favorite chicken soup chicken. That was my
shopping list. Where what am I just kidding?
Speaker 4 (23:48):
We actually like most of those things a lot.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Yeah, we're supposed to have more of those, and then
we're gonna not get sick. All right, that's up to you, heidey,
I'll print that off.
Speaker 7 (23:56):
That would be alright.
Speaker 3 (23:57):

An Ohio couple adopts four siblings so they can all
stay together.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Oh.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
I love it. I love it when families do this.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
An Ohio family stepping into the holiday season with their
hearts and their minivan a whole lot fuller after officially
adopting four children. First reported by a TV station out
of Cincinnati, Joni and Nelson Janney of Miamisburg finalize the
adoption of fifteen year old Chevy, twelve year old Caleb,
ten year old twins Vita and Zoe on Wednesday at
(24:53):
the Hamilton County Probate Court. Well, the timing is special.
What makes the story extraordinary is that all four siblings
now get to stay together. In the world of adoption,
keeping brothers and sisters united is very rare. The judge Winkler,
oversaw the adoption, said that out of the twenty five
hundred adoptions he's handled in the last decade, fewer than
ten involved a group of siblings who were able to
(25:15):
remain a family. But these four were determined to stay
side by side, and the Jannis were determined to make
that happen. The moment the kids met Jonie and Nelson,
something clicked. Janny said, it felt like they were family suddenly,
and it made sense. They went on vacations together, The
kids began thriving in school, and before long they felt
as though they were all a part of the Janny crew.
(25:37):
It's almost like they've never not been a part of
our family. Nelson said. This is not the couple's first
experience with adoption. They welcomed their youngest son, a five
year old Nicholas, a few years ago. Joni, a stay
at home mom, and Nelson an Ohio State trooper for
more than a decade say, expanding their family in this
way has been nothing short of a blessing.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Beautiful.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
I think that is absolutely wonderful story. And there's a
photo here of all of the people with the judge
as well, and I love I love those photos. I
see those photos all the time when they do adoptions,
and I think that it's really cool that they get
a picture with the judge that made this all official.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Me too.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
