Now surveys and studies and such. What when you're watching
a movie, what would you rather see the main character
forgive the bad guy or get revenge?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Revenge? Ravenge?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Ohio State study suggests that while audiences enjoy revenge the most,
they value forgiveness. Researchers at one hundred and eighty four
students read fifteen short story scenarios where the villain was forgiven,
fairly punished, or excessively punished. Participants consistently preferred the fair
punishment endings, but said the over punished versions were probably
(03:14):
the most fun. Forgiving endings were rated the least enjoyable
but also the most meaningful. Students also made faster decisions
when a story delivered punishment they expected. Lead author says
that people have instinctive ideas about justice, so vengeance feels satisfying,
but forgiveness it takes a little more reflection, but ultimately
(03:35):
it carries the deepest emotional weight.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I'm totally fine with fair punishment. I mean, you know,
eye for an eye, That's that's my motto.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
There you go, And I'm a big forgiveness kenn of guy.
I'm sitting over here with no eyes. So surveys and

That makes me sound.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
He's been invited to a lot of stuff, and he's like,

Heidi, Did you know that it rains diamonds on Jupiter
and on Saturn?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
We talked about raining diamonds.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I think we only talked about it on one, but
it's both Saturn and Jupiter have such extreme atmospheric pressures
that scientists believe it could cause carbon to crystallize into diamonds. Oh,
it could cost We don't know. We've never during storms

out for the joke of the day with my beautiful bride,
Heidi Small. What do you have for me?
Speaker 6 (06:40):
Heidi?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
A gorilla dies at a small zoo, but the funding
hasn't been super great and they really needed that attraction.
So the owner asks some of the employees, would you
be willing to dress like a gorilla and sit in
the cage so that we don't lose this this money.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
This is real, it's a joke. This is the joke
of all that's right of the day.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
I thought this are you keeping up?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Are you okay?
Speaker 9 (07:09):
Roke over there, I thought it was news to me,
and I'm all right, yeah, go ahead, finish okay.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
So it was insanely popular and people were loving. People
are coming from all over to see the gorilla that
was so human like, and and slowly the interest started
to die down for this attraction, and so the one
guy says, okay, well, I gotta liven this up a
little bit, and he climbs the gorilla cage and is
(07:42):
hanging from the mesh that's over the top of the
lions over the lion's den, and loses his grip and
falls down into the lion's den. Man starts screaming and
screaming and screaming, help, help, help. Just then the lion
lunges at him and jumps on top of him. Yeah
and whispers is ear shut up, You're gonna get us
(08:03):
both fired.
Speaker 9 (08:09):
That's my favorite joke you've ever done, probably because at
first I thought it was a true story.

Time now for the scoop of the day. The US
Post Office says December seventeenth is the last day to
get your packaging is in the mail if you want
them to be there before Christmas. So that means this
Wednesday is to day. You got a little bit of time,
but don't mess around. And Panteen has revealed their choice
for the twenty twenty six Color of the Year. They
(09:14):
call it if you can call it a color cloud Dancer.
It's a bland off white shade. The company says represents
rest and it's a move away from their relentless demands
of society. A press release is Cloud Dancer again Basically
White is a symbol of calm in a hectic society
that's rediscovering it's worth of measuring, consideration and quiet reflection,
(09:36):
where true strength lies not in doing, but also in being.
Do you think somebody forgot to do this thing? And
they're like, you need to have the number. You just
tell what is the color of the year. And they
just looked at the first one Cloud Dancer. Then they
just made up all that other stuff. And it's true
that mccullay culkin recently reignited the great is it Diehard
a Christmas movie debate? Then he got booed for saying no.
(10:00):
A new survey suggests in the UK anyway, that they
agree with him. In a poll of two thousand people
by the British Bord of Film Classifications, forty four percent
say that Diehard is not a Christmas film. Thirty eight
percent insists that it is a Christmas film. Five percent
even shows Diehard as their favorite holiday film. You're probably
going that doesn't add up well. The remaining seventeen percent
(10:21):
set undecided. Home Alone, by the Way, was named the
favorite festive movie, followed by Love Actually it's a wonderful
life and elf. That is your scoop of the day
on The John and Heidie Show.

(10:58):
I mean, it goes on and on and on.
Speaker 3 (11:00):

Speaker 2 (11:00):
We're going to talk to him about his latest it's
out right now. It's called Reawakening. We had a chance
to see it. But let's talk a little bit about
this film.
Speaker 10 (11:08):
Yeah, Reawakening. It's available on Apple and Amazon streaming platforms.
It's a very tight psychological thriller about a couple whose
teenage daughter runs away from home when she's in her
you know, thirteen years old or so. And then ten
(11:30):
years later, this adult woman shows up saying that she's
their daughter and she's come home and the mother accepts
her immediately unconditionally as the daughters come back to them,
and the husband is a little bit more circumspect about
it and starts to sort of quizzer and he wants
(11:51):
to know, you know, he wants to know where she
was and what happened, if you like, And the mother
doesn't want to burden the girl with these questions. And
the ironic thing is is that the husband, the father,
in the intervening decade, never stopped looking for his daughter.
And you know, it's putting up missing person's notices and
rewards and doing the homeless shelters and meeting with the police,
(12:13):
and so it's ironic that he's the one who's got
a problem with the idea that she's come back, and
you know that you don't know, is it isn't it her?
I don't want to give anything away why she left,
where she went, and all that's dealt with in the story.
But it really becomes a kind of examination of this
(12:34):
relationship and kind of the idea of is it better
living with the truth or is it better to live
in an illusion? If you are you happier.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
And again in this film, the daughter goes missing ten
years later she comes back. The dad thinks that this
girl is an imposter. He doesn't think it's his daughter. Now,
that sounds ludicrous, but there are true stories where that
absolutely has happened. So do you know, is this based
on a true story or is this reawakening?
Speaker 10 (13:03):
The screenwriter and director she she familiar familiarized herself with
a lot of cases and did a lot of research.
So there's little bits of various different people's story in there.
But is it based on one person's experience? Then the
answers know, but it's it's based on a deep understanding
(13:30):
of like this, And again it's you know, superficially, the
stories about is it her, isn't it her? And if
it's not her, why she comes by this person pretending
to be here? And if it is her, what happened
to her? And why did she spare away? But really
(13:51):
it's as all great stories are. It's an examination of
human nature and human psychology, if you like. And the
kind of difference between the couple is which version of
the truth is going to make you happier? The one
where you kind of know, you get all the answers,
(14:11):
or where you kind of you choose your own reality
if you like. I don't know if I'm explaining that well,
but she was probably If Virginia's listening to me mangle
this up, she's probably slapping her forehead and saying, why
do they let the actors do all this? Let me,
let me explain the story.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
I wrote it, and Jared, you do a great job
in all of your movies, but in this he did
such a great job because again, this dad lost his
daughter ten years ago. He wants her back so badly,
and then she's back, but he's like, is it her?
I mean, you did such a great job playing this role.
Speaker 10 (14:45):
Yeah, I mean it's a good and again she's very
very smart, Virginia the playwright, I mean, the writer and
the director, because it's she gets it right in the
sense that, you know, the course, the man is obsessed
with the facts.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
You know.
Speaker 10 (15:00):
He wants to know the truth. He wants to know
what happened. He wants to know when it happened, how
it happened, who it happened with. He wants all the details,
you know, and the mother is more affected by I'm
prepared to accept this because it feels right to me,
it feels true to me, it's the truth that I've
wanted to manifest and now it's here, so why question it.
(15:24):
And it's a brilliant understanding of the sort the different
psychology of men and women. You know.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Absolutely, again, our guest today, Jared Harris, thank you so
much for taking the time to chat. I appreciate it.
Speaker 10 (15:36):
Thank you, thank you for your interest in the movie

I have another animal that was thought to have been extinct.
This one listened to this thing it's called a terror skink.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Oo and sounds like a not a nice name.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
No, no, it's not. This lizard grows to a length
of twenty inches and eats only meat, preferring to kill
its prey itself. Oh wow, which it does with its
razor sharp curved teeth.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
I think this could be extinct, and I'd be fine
with it.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
Biologists became aware of this animal's existence only in eighteen
sixty seven, when they found some fossils and it had
presumably gone extinct thousands of years ago, but not so fast.
An expedition from a French museum spotted another in two
thousand and nine, and then a few more in twenty
thirteen inches twenty eighteen. So they are breeding and they're
(18:02):
coming back and they eat meat. All right, that's a
little terrified. Yeah, terror, terror, It is terrifying anyway. That
is news to me.

the name Hell and it is frozen over numerous times.
It's twenty four, twenty fourteen, twenty nineteen, and twenty twenty one,
(19:09):
but many more than that. I'm sure it's in Michigan.

(20:14):
in South Korea is hearing all about it online for
refusing to serve solo diners. So we talked about a
bar going on. There was a bar in England that
is only letting you come and drink there if you
have somebody with you after a certain day. Well, in
South Korea, the eatery posted a sign bluntly saying we
don't sell loneliness. The sign also offers these handy alternatives
(20:37):
for anybody eating a loan, pay for two servings, eat
two servings, or call a friend or return with a spouse.
The move clashes with the growing hanbop trend, where solo
diners increasingly are going out by themselves more often. But
that's what the problem is. Apparently, twenty nine percent of
South Korean households now consist of one person. Social media
(20:58):
users criticize this policy as out and dismissive, though some
defend the owner's right to make business decisions. Here's the problem.
They're saying, you're taking up a whole table. You're eating
one tiny little meal. I could have a couple there,
I could have four people there, but I would just say.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
What if you're a widower, what if you're you know,
super lonely and going out to eat is your only chance.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
To Maybe they're saying, just get that to go again.
I'm not saying that's a good I'm just saying I
understand why they're doing it. I'm not agreeing with it.
Weird news on the John and Heidi Show.

to wrap things up around here with good news. I
think this is just an amazing story, Heidi, and it
(25:33):
involves a police officer, which is always fun.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
I love the good stories about all.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
So this police officer arrested a woman ten years ago,
and every year she sends him a thank you card. Okay,
how cool is that? Ten years ago a routine traffic
stop in Ohio changed two lives in a way that
neither person probably imagined would happen back then. Every year,
on December fifth, Kimberlee Slavens walks through the doors of
the Ohio State Patrol Post we Post eighty three with
(26:00):
a handwritten card for a trooper she met him. She
was drunk at the time, but she met him ten
years ago and this day, December fifth, when she walks
through the door, marks now ten years of sobriety. Oh
I love that, she said. I can never thank you
enough for the change that you made in my life.
Sergeant Brent Lee read aloud the card as he opened it.
(26:23):
Slaven's wrote about how recovery allowed her to watch her
son get married, allowed her to watch to buy her
first home, and to rebuild a life that she once
thought she had lost, all because she chose sobriety after
that night back in twenty fifteen. At the time, she
admitted that she had been drinking heavily at a local
bar and mistakenly believed that she was sober enough to
(26:43):
drive home. That's when she was pulled over for failing
to signal. Quickly became clear that she was impaired, and
it was her second driving violation while drinking in sixteen months,
and it was a wake up call that changed her life.
And there's a photo here of the two of them,
And she's even got a personalized plate license plate that
says ten years to honor her milestone.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
So anyway, these two become very good friends. And again
I love the fact that she took that wake up
call and actually did something with it.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
Sadly, there are so many times where people make bad
choices and then they have the opportunity to fix that,
but they don't. Instead, they double down and keep making
bad choices. So anybody can get the help they need.
And I'm serious. If the wake up call is getting
pulled over, that's the wake up call. The wake up
call could be hearing this on the radio, going, you
know what, maybe I should get my life in order.
It's never too late, never ever ever times say good bye, Heiding,
(27:36):
good bye, Heidie, goodbye, everybody, have a great day. Thank
you so much for listening to the John and Heidi show.
