Speaker 3 (00:25):
How are you doing.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I am fantastic. I am excited because I've got even
though it's a Friday, I've got a movie star Monday guest.
This time of year, I get so many people who
have fun things to talk about, and I just feel
so blessed that I get to do these interviews. It
means a lot to me. It really does, doesn't it.
You know it does?
Speaker 5 (00:41):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
I know it does.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I just and then we'll watch movies. I'm like, Oh,
I saw her, I did an interview with them, and
her and this lady right here, we saw her in
a movie just recently. Her name is Lake Bell, and
she's in a bunch of different movies, but the one
that we just watched recently was the movie like the
voiceover industry. I remember the one where she was a
voice over artist and her dad was a voiceover earth.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yes I do.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
That's also her movie. She wrote that, like that's her thing.
That's not the one we're talking about, though. She's in
a new movie. I just want to share that I digress.
That was just for Heidie. So are we on the
air stairs Lake Belt. She's in the chair company and
this looks hilarious. It's weird, and it literally says in line,
this is not for everybody, but it looks really good.
(01:24):
I'm gonna chat with her all about it coming up.
Speaker 6 (01:27):

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Is ugly Christmas sweater punch.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Shoh, that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
That's what we're having because it is ugly Christmas sweater day,
so it's perfect. So we have got ugly Christmas sweater
punch and has lemon lime coup, laid sugar, frozen lime
made pineapple juice, sprite, and vodka. Alrighty then and you
and the cups are decorated like the person who made
it decorated each cup individual plastic cup like an ugly sweater.
(02:13):
It was so cute.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Heidi got me a really cool, ugly Christmas sweater sweater,
but does it's It's ugly though, and it's Christmas and
it's awesome. I've got a link to that drink in
the show notes for today at John and heidishow dot com.

Now surveys studies and such. A new study suggests nitrous oxide, yeah,
laughing gas might provide rapid relief for adults who suffer
from depression, especially especially those who have not responded to antidepressants.
So University of Birmingham and publishers of.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Around sniffing laughing gas, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Research reviewed three trials showing that a single fifty percent
concentration treatment of nitrous oxide reduced depressive symptoms within twenty
four hours, though effects typically did not last beyond a week.
Repeated treatments over several weeks, however, showed longer lasting benefits.
Nitrous oxide appears to act on a glutamate receptor in
your brain, similar to ketamine. Researchers caution more studies are
(03:45):
needed and planning trials to explore long term effectiveness and
safety is all in that.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, I was thinking I had read somewhere that it's
not good for your brain, like it causes brain cuts
or something.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
As you may know, on nitrous oxide acts as a
sedative and a mild as to reduce pain and anxiety
during procedures.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
I think that's fantastic I want in on this study.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I just think that they were like, Okay, we just
need to get more money for more of this stuff.
We're gonna need to do a longer study surveys and
studies and such. On The John and Heidi.

How is Stranger Things going to end? Millie Bobby Brown
(04:40):
has the answer. She recently confessed that she engaged in
a bit of espionage to spoil the ending for herself
during the current run of its fifth and final season.
She said, the night before the last table read, we
didn't know what was going to happen, Like nobody knew.
Then smirking, she said, I actually did know. I actually
snuck into the writer's room. I saw this really big
(05:01):
whiteboard and all of the endings on it, and I
was like, ah, so much to process she did not spill.
The Strangers Things finale over five hundred screens across North America.
It's going to be on big screens at movie theaters.
I'm December thirty first. Okay, so you get to watch
the finale on a big screen. That's kind of weird.
Why not just put it out the way? I don't know.
(05:22):
I guess, do what you gotta do, and Key for
Sutherland is given a big update on the revival of
the Fox hit twenty four. The new twenty four project,
recently confirmed to be in development by showrunner Howard Gordon,
follows teases about a new script that could bring back
Jack Bauer. So, anyway, I think this is really cool.
He says that he's hoping that it's coming out sooner
(05:45):
rather than later. So my son loves that. And then
we watched all of that and it is good. I
can see why people liked it. Big screen, little screen

Heidi, did you know that some birds can see ultraviolet light?
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Did not? And I don't know how anybody else would.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Well, well, they asked the birds, and the birds when
you see this, you see this. Birds have superior vision
compared to humans. Everybody knows that many species can see
ultraviolet or UV light, which helps them with navigation, hunting,
and attracting mates. Visibility allows them to see patterns on
flowers and feathers that are invisible to the human eye.
And they can also see that stamp on your hand
(06:51):
from the bar you went to last night. Okay, guess

of the day with my beautiful bride, Heidi Small. What
you got for me there, Heidi?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
Why does Batman only wear dark colors? I have no
idea why just because Batman doesn't want to get shot?
Why does Robin only wear bright colors? Because Batman doesn't
want to get shot?
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Trying to figure out what the joke was, I'm just
dumbfounding over here. Yesterday you were talking about spider Man
and you're talking about Batman. Where did you get all
of these from a Marvel comic book? What's going on
right now? All right, that is your joke of the day.
I'm confused. Thanks for listening to the John and Heidie Show.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Time now for the scoop of the day. Flirting may
look different across generations, Heidi, but everybody wants the same basics.
They want interest, they want respect, and they want.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
A little spark.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Huffington Posts spoke to people from four different generations about
their approaches to flirting, and this is what they concluded.
Boomers say, the key to flirting is sincerity. Okay, so
you gotta be sincere or fake it, really really want
be yourself, read body language, and keep things respectful. Our
(08:59):
generation X focuses on wit and genuine curiosity. Yeah, so
that is I'd agree with that only reason I was
able to lend this babe that's in the room with
me here, she's my wife. Did you know that? If
you listen to the two of us and you're like,
how did this goober end up? With her? Wit right there?
Speaker 6 (09:15):
Baby?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
And genuine curiosity, I'm very curious. I ask a lot
of questions. I'm like, Eh, how does this work? How
does that work? Ask good questions, listen closely and keep
things light. But classy millennials by the way, if you're wondering,
they're into friendliness and warmth, often using humor and low
pressure compliments and very clear boundaries. And then gen Z
(09:37):
the young UN's on the list here. They prefer playful,
authentic exchanges like memes and jokes and casual compliments, while
staying mindful of context, consent, and comfort.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
So they're making it so complicated.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
The bottom line across all ages, the advice is simple,
be real, be kind, don't ignore the signals you're getting.
And I still remember when we first started dating, all
of those memes that you sent me that didn't happen.
Memes didn't exist yet kids. That is probably hard for
some people to realize. And emojis, apparently they did. Emojis
go back to like ancient Egypt. Some people say, I'm
(10:13):
like accounts. But either way, if you have questions, I've
got that whole story in the show notes for today

(10:39):
a visit right now with Lake Bell and she's a
part of a new project called The Chair Company. It's
a Tim Robinson program. Lake This looks like a whole
lot of fun and online I read I think one
of the funniest reviews. Somebody said, I absolutely positively love
The Chair Company, but I also know most of my
friends probably wouldn't get it.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
It's really fun, I think, just to have my peers,
you know, my friends say hey, by the way, I'm
actually obsessed with your show. You know. Usually there's the
sense of oh, no, I haven't seen your show yet,
you know, or whatever, but I can tell there's a
difference here. So that has been just pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
The season finale of The Chair Company just came out
the tail end of November. It's on HBO. This is
a huge hit for HBO and one of the biggest
hits for HBO Max And like the guy online said,
you know, it's maybe it's not for everybody, but when
you find the right people, when you find your crowd,
they're going to absolutely love this and they are finding.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
It yeah, I think it. You know, look, Tim Robinson
and Zach Cannon, who wrote the show and obviously Tim
stars in it, you know, have a very unique brand
of comedy, and they've created this really subversive narrative that
is unlike anything I've certainly played in and thus have seen.
(11:56):
So I think people really are enjoying how relatable the
family and this guy is in some ways. I mean,
his co workers, and he's got a good job, he's
got a nice family and kids and house, and you
kind of see someone you recognize in that in the
world that's created. But then he's sort of this tornado
(12:20):
just wreaking chaos in his own life. He's his own
worst enemy, you know. And I also think the show
kind of scratches the itch on a zeitgeist that we
have in our society, which is that we're all a
little paranoid, we're all sort of totally tuned into you know,
I'll figure it out myself. I'm basically a professional private
(12:41):
investigator because I have access to the Internet. So I
think that conspiracy theories and all these kinds of rabbit
holes that we find ourselves in is really just kind
of an echo in the show.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Again, The Cheer Company on HBO. The season finale just
happened the tail end of November, and it's uh, it's
Tim Robinson and our guest Lake Bell. You play his wife,
Is that right?
Speaker 4 (13:05):
Definitely? I played Barb Crossper think we've been married for
a couple of decades, We've got two kids together, and
you know, I think everything that you know, for the
same reasons that we fell in love are probably the
same reasons that you know we drive each other crazy.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Well that tracks, That's just the way it works. Now.
When I found out I was going to be visiting
with you, I went onlinks. I'm like, I know her
from something? What do I know her from? And I
started looking at the projects. I'm like, I know her
from this and from this and from this. You're in
a ton of really fun movies and TV shows. Lake, Yeah,
thank you.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
I feel I look, I feel really grateful that I
have a career where I work consistently. I'm in projects
I'm really proud of. But then I can also still
go on the subway and totally be anybody you know,
like I just it's like that nice sweet spot you know,
where it's like I can fold in and just be
(13:58):
left alone. But then I can also go and like
star and stuff. You know. It's a nice place to be,
certainly because I have a family, I have my children. Yeah,
I feel really lucky.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
And you do a ton of voice work as well,
which leads me to a movie that I fell in
love with and I found out that not only do
you star in this movie, but this is your movie
in a World.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Yes, I wrote, direct and star in that movie. And
that was my firstborn Baby is in a World. And
I burst that movie Baby almost ten or ten years
ago now, so that was truly a huge life changing
moment for me. And you know, I wrote another movie
(14:39):
after that, so I've made two features. I feel really
proud of TV shows and you know, it's been It's
really fun to be on the Chair Company where I
get to kind of be an actor for hire, part
of a comedic troop, you know. And it's always inspiring
to be to work with p people who have a
(15:03):
different tone than how I would write or direct, you know.
So it's like that's how I learn and grow in
my craft as a creator too.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Well, you're doing awesome. I'm excited to see the Chair Company.
I've heard such good stuff about it from my weird
friends that like weird things and I like weird things,
so I got a lot of catching up to do.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Oh great, okay, yeah, no buffle up because it's not
what you think it is.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
Excited to see it, Lake, Thank you for your time.
I appreciate it. Thank you again. The Chair Company. This
season finale was the tail end of November, so you
can watch all of it now in streaming. I've got
the details in the show notes for today at John

Speaker 3 (17:09):
One final animal that was thought to be extinct. This
is called the Bermuda petrel. In the fifteen hundreds, when
they started to colonize Bermuda, the petrol lived in abundance
on the island, which is demonstrated by fossils that they
that they found of the bird. With the arrival of
humanity came the destruction of the bird's habitat. They also
(17:30):
brought along with them cats and pigs, similar to some
of the other stories, which hunted it to extinction. They
thought the originals in Bermuda. The Europeans on Bermuda didn't
mind because the call of the petrel was so loud
and terrifying that settlers nicknamed their new home the Island
of Demons.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Oh wow, that's not good.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
And while their animals killed off thousands of the birds,
the humans plucked the eggs out of the ground, out
of their ground nests and ate them, so they were
also responsible for killing off as many of them as
they did. The last recorded one was seen in sixteen twenty,
but two dead ones were found in nineteen thirty five
(18:12):
and another in nineteen forty five. In nineteen fifty one,
an expedition found seventeen pairs of the living birds. They
were forced into encroachment into five small rocky islands in
the Castle Harbor. So researchers brought the petrol back from extinction,
and today there are about four hundred examples of the
(18:32):
National Bird of bermuda.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
How wild is that?
Speaker 3 (18:36):
So it's their national birden it was extinct.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
It's interesting, but it was not. That's cool.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
That is cool.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
I love that, and that's news to me. It's also
news to me.

Oh my gosh, yeah, I suppose you got the money

to it. That's so weird.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
He didn't want to have to think of one or
I have no idea.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
That is bizarre.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
That really is fun fact for aid there are twelve
time zones in Antarctica, so twelve different time zone. That's
kind of well, you'd think there'd be twenty four, but
apparently not. Fun fact for such on cotton swabs cause
more injuries than a razor blades.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Isn't that interesting?
Speaker 7 (19:54):
This is wild.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
You would think it'd be the other way around, but
that's why it's a fun fact. How about this fun
fact for your hide it they're more saunas in Finland
than there are cars in Finland. Yeah, that is just
wild as well. And we'll do one more fun fact
for you, Heidi. In Germany, making the sh sound does
not mean to be quiet. You know what it means?
What does it means to hurry up? That's why so
(20:16):
many people like Germans always running in library.

Now some weird news. Italian investigators have cracked what locals
are calling a real life miss Doubt missus Doubt fire scandal.
(20:51):
It's a completely different thing though. It's a bizarre case
where a fifty six year old unemployed man disguised himself
as his mother for years, but she died. Her mummified
corpse was in the home. Yeah, he was living there.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
This is I would call this more of a Norman
Bates type of a situation.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
She was eighty two. He dressed yes, uh, he dressed
up like her. He put on her clothing and like
put on a wig. Oh my goodness, full old lady attire,
and like would even pretend to stumble a little bit
as he walked around and got things in this place.
And it was It's weird. Three years anyway, raked in
(21:32):
about sixty one thousand dollars between her pension and income.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Okay, That's what I was going to ask, is that's
why he was doing it, because he wanted the money.

He care to manage to pose as her for quite
some time. I've got a link to the story if

and its primary product is Cougar Gold. It's unique in
that it's distributed in metal cans. Okay, it's a spicier, tangier,
nuttier riff on cheddar cheese.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
So that's not weird, right.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
It was invented by w s U professor NS Golding
at the outset of World War II. The US Department
of Government US Department US Government approached him and asked
him to devise a new cheese that prevented spoilage as
it was being sent to troops all over. He modified
(24:01):
a bacteria culture that would still convert the milk into cheese,
but cut way down on the carbon dioxide emissions, meanings
the cans wouldn't explode. That is a nice one. And
then the other one is lichen cheese l I c
h E N lichen licken. All right, a high end
food distributor, let's see, takes forest forged lican, which is
(24:26):
a mass like organism that's part fungus and part algae,
and roasts, boils and ferments it. Then they impregnant impregnate
it with locally raised goat milk, which with the produced lichen,
and it creates a final product that resembles blue cheese.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Okay, well there's another thing I won't be trying anytimes.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Yeah, there's some very interesting ones out there. It's fascinating
people try and eat.
Speaker 2 (24:55):

in a better mood, according to some dude with a
PhD in music psychology.
Speaker 3 (25:40):
And I think this all depends on the kind of
music you like. But okay, whatever, That's.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Exactly what I was going to say. Yeah, like, what
if you don't like any of this stuff? So Sun
is Shining by Bob Marley from nineteen seventy one. They go,
that is a huge, huge mood boost right there. Uptown
Girl Billy Joel nineteen eighty three. So far the newest
thing hard.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
To not Yeah, not like that one. You gotta tap
your toes now.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
We got another one that's even newer from two thousand
and one. Get the Party Started by Pink. Okay, so
it's an irresistible sing along. They say, James Brown, I
got you or I feel good? However you want to
say that, Yeah, that's a good one. A House of
Fun by Madness, Yeah, I agree with that. And Good
Vibrations by the Beach.

to wrap things up around here with good news, and
I think this is a cool story. A janitor gets
to watch his daughter at school. But she's not a student,
(26:55):
she's a teacher. So for more than two decades, James
As quietly opened classroom doors before sunrise, polished hallways, offered
friendly world word to countless students as the Custodian. But
last November he experienced something entirely new watching his own
daughter teach in the very building that he has spent
years working in to give her a brighter future. He's
(27:18):
from Boston, lived there his whole life. When he was nineteen,
he chose sobriety, which, by the way, is awesome if
that's something that you're done cool. After he lost his
father to an overdose when he was just nine, he
spent much of his youth trying to outrun grief. His
girlfriend told him they were expecting and he felt a
moment of clarity that changed the course of his life.
He said, I knew if I didn't stop, then I
(27:40):
wasn't going to make it. And he said, I wanted
to be somebody that my daughter could count on. He
kept that promise. He took a job as a custodian.
Back in two thousand and four, a position opened at
that school that that's where she actually attended school, so
he was able to drive her to school and be there.
He jumped at the chance and being able to see
her throughout the day. Well then she was gone, because
you know, she went off to school, other schools and
(28:02):
other things. Well now she's a teacher and she's back
at the exact same That's great, is that, and there's
a really sweet moment that's gone viral on Instagram. She's
teaching a group of second graders and it's him in
there doing this fun little thing where it's you know,
him talking about that's my daughter, like to I get
to see her. So there's a whole lot more to it.
(28:24):
If you want to read the thing, it's in the
show notes for today at John Anddeidishow dot com. Time
