Speaker 1 (00:10):
I thought you'd never asked, kidie. It is Thursday, the
twenty sixth day of December. It's National thank You Day
and National Thank You Note Day, so that's pretty cool.
National Candy Cane Day. Do you like candy canes?
Speaker 3 (00:23):

the original?
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
I don't like the weird flavors.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
See there are some of the weird flavors that I
think are even better. But for the most part, I'm
a fan of just knt of the original, National Winers' Day,
I didn't get what I want, Kwanza Today, Day of Goodwill,
National Homeowner's Day, and Boxing Day Today. All of those
things happening on the twenty sixth day of December. And
it's a Thursday, which means I have a Dear John letter.
(00:51):
And our Dear John letter is a person who got
their first passport and they're going to be traveling for
the first time ever. And it is an adult woman
who will be traveling a loan and she's got family
and friends that are really nervous for her. So we're
gonna chat all.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
About Oh yeah, coming up that is brave.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, we'll chat all about it in a bit.

a couple of Christmas cookies, or you know something like
that might actually be doing your health a favor.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Oh good, sweetish.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Researchers have found that not all sugar is created equal,
and your approach to sweet treats could be more important
than having the willpower to just say no. The study
published in Public Health discovered that while sugary drinks are
a health hazard, en trying an occasional treat could actually
provide cardiovascular benefits. I'm liking this. They found the drinking
(02:18):
eight or more servings of sugary drinks each week is
linked to like higher risk of cardiovascular diseases. Liquid sugars
are not good for you according to this, But they're
saying that the other stuff like sugars that you find
in cookies, that could actually But they say moderation is

Did you know the world's biggest ever recorded turtle was
a leatherback turtle that washed up on a beach in
Wales in nineteen eighty eight. It was estimated to be
one hundred years old. They looked at his driver's license
apparently cut him in a half. Yeah, anyways, nine feet
in length, weighed about two thousand pounds. That's a pretty
(03:40):
good sized turtle if you ask me. We don't know everything,
but now we know this now Big Screen, Little Screen
brought to you by Radiosavings dot Com. Austin Butler is
set to star in a new interpretation of American Psycho.
There have been rumors that somebody else was going to
be playing this role, but Butler apparently is the one
(04:01):
that's most likely going to be playing now. And the
other person who was in line for this was Jacob L. Roddy,
and they have something in common. They both played different
versions of Elvis, one in a movie called Elvis, another
in a movie called Priscilla, So that might be why
people were saying that other.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Guy, so, oh, do you see an American Psycho, Yeah
Moy Movie.
Speaker 1 (04:22):

Now your scoop of the day comes your way. Courtesy
of Jascasemedical dot Com stats show the average American malgoer
spent nine hundred and fifty dollars on Christmas this year. Okay,
so that sound about right. Sounds like a lot to me.
He He's like, eh, all right. Pantone has named Mocha
(06:02):
moose and evocative soft brown as its color of the
Year for twenty twenty five, So that's what we're going
to see in the coming year. Global color specialist says
Mocha Moose is a mellow brown infused with a sensorial
sensorius something or other comforting warmth, A worm rich brown
hue that nurtures with its suggestion of the delicate quality
(06:23):
of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort.
This is making me hungry. I'm gonna just call it
light brown. That's what dudes would call this. It's a
light brown. It's beautiful in all but it's just light
brown and apple. The company is working on a gigantic
iPad that would fold in half, so this thing, when
(06:46):
you unfold it, it would be the size of two
iPad pros side by side. The tech Giant has reportedly
been honing in the details on this product for a
couple of years now. It's currently eyeing a twenty twenty
eight release date. The supersized iPad has been described as
a single, uninterrupted piece of glass that does not have
(07:09):
the crease seen on other foldable devices. When fully opened,
it would measure roughly twenty inches or fifty one centimeters.
Not surprisingly, the mega iPad won't be cheap.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
No, it doesn't tell like it.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Being described as a quote higher end device, end quote.
So yeah, here's the thing that's interesting. I remember when
phones got like really really really small. Remember that they
were tiny. As a matter of fact, there was like
a skit on Saturday Night Live. He was opening a
tiny phone. And now the phones have gotten bigger and bigger, bigger,
and now I need a screen a little bigger. This
(07:43):
is a big phone, and I need a bigger one
because my eyes are horrible. And I need longer arms.
There we go. Scoop of the Day comes your way

Time now four Dear John Letters, all right, I'm excited
to talk about this. My beautiful bride over here was
a travel agent. How long were your travel agent?
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Three and a half years?
Speaker 1 (08:40):
And that was something you really enjoyed. It was so
much fun. And when we first got married, she was
a travel agent and we would go all kinds of
cool places. Yeah, and then now we both work in
radio and we can't afford to leave it, so now
we still go some cool places. All right, here we go,
Dear John. I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my very
first passport, which will be here any day now. Adventure
(09:00):
will take place a few weeks after New Year's and
will be for one week. I have two problems. First,
I plan to travel alone, although I will have a
friend meeting me when I get to my destination. No
one I know is happy about this except for me.
I've never done anything of this magnitude alone, but I'm
sure I can handle myself. Second, the friend with whom
(09:22):
I'll be staying is someone I'm very close to, but
i've never met in person. I, a forty seven year
old woman, have done a lot of research into the
area where I'll be going, as well as the life
and the business of my friend, also a woman forty
five years old. To cover all my bases regarding my safety,
I will have enough money with me to assure a
(09:42):
place to stay and everything for the week that I
will be there in case anything goes wrong. My question
is this, how do I get past my family and
friends' objections and get them to see that I'm ready
for this and they don't need to keep lecturing me
about how dumb I am for doing this. They're not
going to change my mind and they're not going to
be happy for me. I can't explain enough that I
(10:05):
need to do this for myself and that I will
be fine. I don't want this to be a fight anymore.
Signed prepared for launch. So first thing I will say is,
you know, it's very brave to go and do something
on your own. You know a lot of people travel
in pairs. That doesn't mean you have to. But you
traveled when you were like right on a high.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
School as the eight teen just graduated. Yet my very
first trip anywhere.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah, it was that the first time you even got
an airplane. Yes, and you went to.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Where to Finland?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
So she went? Yeah, so again.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
In Sweden and Estonia.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
Yeah, but I met just like she's doing, met a
friend when I got there, and I stayed with her
and then we traveled together, and it was the greatest experience.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
In my mind.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
I met that friend before I had.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
She was a foreign exchange too in our school.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
And but you also met up with like pen pals
and people that you hadn't met before. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (10:55):
So yeah, many times it's you know what, It's a
beautiful world. Go exp Flora and you are in your forties,
it really doesn't matter what anybody thinks. You can make
your own decisions.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
Here's I think we're prepared for launches concern. You said
it's a beautiful world. It is, but it's also a
bit of a scary world.
Speaker 7 (11:12):
Right, But she's not going to be all by herself
like hitchhiking through the country side, exactly.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
And that's the one thing that I would say that
you know, again, your loved ones don't know this person
that you've been talking to. And if you do, know
for sure that this person is a good person, and
you're not concerned at all that, Hey, I'm going to
be visiting a person that I've never met before. I'm
gonna be staying with a person I've never met before.
But you guys know each other. Doesn't say in here
how you know each other and if there was pen
pals or whatever, but you know the fact that you're
(11:39):
going to see somebody that you kind of know, and
I love you. Put in the letter I have money
in case I need to because if you get there, right,
because you never know. And I have a friend who
had something like that happen. He travels he goes around
and he'll have host families that will have him stay
with them. And he got kicked out of a host
family's place, which is really weird.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yeah, that's bizarre.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
And he got there and they had a great night
and they had a nice conversation and the next day,
you know, he was working a lot when he was there,
and then all of a sudden, they just asked him,
we'd like you to leave. It feels like you don't
even want to be here. You're not even talking to us,
you know, And he's like, well, I didn't know what
I was expected, like he apparently they thought that he
was going to be there like doing a tap dance
port the whole time. Anyway. So I love the fact
(12:24):
that you mentioned you've got the funds to stay on
your own someplace if you need to, because that would
have been My only advice is make sure you have
a backup plan. Yeah, but it sounds like you have
one now if you would like.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
To try to don't go have fun.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah. If you'd like to chime in with advice about
this for Prepared for Launch, you can chime in on
our Facebook page, Facebook dot com slash John and Heidi
Show and I also would love to put out a
plea for some lighthearted fun letters. We keep getting these all. Yeah,
some of the ones that we had, like in early December,
I'm like, oh wow, this is you need to talk
(13:00):
to a counselor lawyer or something. But no, if you've
got some fun, lighthearted stuff, maybe something that happened over
the holidays or something that you're planning for the new year,
you can send those Dear John letters Facebook dot com,
slash John ed Heidi Show. You can keep it anonymous.

us to even know where it's coming from, you can

Fun fact for you, Heidi, what's that? John Opossums don't
actually play dead when they get frightened, they get over
excited and they pass out in at all. Yeah. Fun
fact for Heide. Four is the only number that is
spelled with the same number of letters as itself. F I, VE, O,
N E G W oh. Okay, well, I'll be working
(14:15):
on this all day. Fun fact for you, Heidi. Stats
show that the less religious you are, the more likely
you are to believe in aliens. That's interesting because I'm
religious and I believe in aliens. Fun fact for a Heidi,
belly buttons grow special hair that catches lint.
Speaker 3 (14:32):
Huh uh.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
That's kind of gross and we can't end on that.
How about this fun fact for you, Heidi. Blood donors
in Sweden receive a text message when their blood is
used a little fank you note. Oh I kind of
like that. That's pretty cool. I like that. Like we
need several fun facts now, you know. Thanks for listening

No, the exact opposite, wrapping them six percent.
Speaker 3 (15:39):

Time now for some weird news, brought to you by
Weird Gift of the Day dot com. The latest viral
drink in Japan is called no MoU Mayo Any IDEA
what Maine ingredient is? Honey mayo? Uh huh. It's a
drinkable mayonnaise yeah. Launched by Lawson, a well known Japanese
convenience store chain. The company calls it a chilled drink
(16:41):
Mayo fanatics have long been waiting for. Priced at about
a dollar and thirty US so US dollars like a
dollar and thirty cents, This mayonnaise style drink is in
a two hundred millilter cup. It's a white colored, thick
beverage with a label noting ingredients like milk based foods,
mayonnaise flavoring, seasoning, and processed whole eggs.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
That just sounds nasty.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Early reviews, while admitting that the stuff does taste like mayo,
are mixed on the taste. One user wrote, I can't
decide if this is genius or a crime against food.
Maybe both. So there you go. That is some interesting
stuff right there. I've got a link to it in
the show notes for today at John Dheidishow dot com.
(17:30):
Time now for the list, brought to you by jay'scasemedical
dot com. The oddest Guinness World Records of the year
smallest washing machine seven sagi of India has an appliance
officially measured one point two eight inches by one point
three inches. What tiny, eighty bitty little washing machine?
Speaker 3 (17:49):
So on Earth would you do with that?
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I have no idea, just a novelty thing. Apparently. How
about this one largest building in the shape of a
chicken you know that happened in the Philippines, made a
giant roost your shape building one hundred and fourteen feet
high seven inches one hundred and fourteen feet seven inches high.
I'll say it's only seven inches hut of this segulature.
So I don't know if there was another big chicken
building that they had to beat. The longest padding journey
(18:14):
by pumpkin boat. Okay, oh, paddling journeying that makes more sense.
Down the Columbia River forty five point seven miles. We
could probably do that one the fastest ten meters on
a skateboard on a biak. Yeah, that's true happening. I've
not built for kayak or speed of any kind. We're
going to finish this list tomorrow because there's other interesting ones.
(18:36):
I'll put the entire list though in the show notes
for today at johnndtheidishow dot com.

Time now for the quote of the day, It comes
your way courtesy of Radiosavings dot com. I think people
like that you're taking credit for these quotes because I
get a lot of anonymous quotes. Now you muss a lot.
Here's another anonymous quote here. When people ask me a
stupid question, it's my legal obligation to make a sarcastic comment. Yeah,
that's a heidismall quote right there. If I ever heard
(19:31):
one quote of the day, Comes your Way courtesy of

Show is brought to you by the John and Heidi Show.
That sounds kind of funny, but it's true. Go to
your local radio station and ask them to start carrying

could carry the show for free. They play a couple commercials,
(19:52):
but it doesn't cost them anything every month. So if

would love to do a radio program in your community.
Then you could listen to the podcast and listen to
us on the radio. We always like to wrap things
(20:15):
up around here with good news, and I think this
is good news. It comes your way courtesy of Genesis
gold ir A dot com and I love this story.
FTC Federal Trade Commission bans hidden fees making hotels and
event tickets cheaper. No, it's a major of a major
victory for American consumers. The Federal Trade Commission finalize a
(20:37):
bipartisan rule that bans hidden fees for live event tickets, hotels,
and vacation rentals. So in the past, you would rent
something or you'd buy a ticket. Let's say it was
one hundred dollars. No one's send done to check out. Yeah,
this is a lot more than we thought we were
going to pay. This regulation ensures that service fees, resort fees,
or anything charge commonly added at a checkout is in
(21:00):
in the admirateur price.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Love that the.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Change means customers will know the total cost upfront, eliminating
the frustration and financial surprise often associated with these hidden fees.
The rule marks the culmination of a project that's been
going on since twenty twenty two. I love that over
the last three years, the FTC has aggressively tackled these
junk fees is what they call them, securing hundreds of
(21:23):
millions of dollars in refunds for Americans. Now, with this
new rule in place, the agency estimates that it will
save Americans about eleven billion dollars over the next decade
or like fifty three million hours of wasted time as well.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Nice.
Speaker 7 (21:38):
Yeah, because you get to the checkout screen You're like,
I'm not paying that.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
See all that time.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Add up, talking real money out of pocket for Americans here.
The FTC chair celebrated the ruling, emphasizing the importance of transparency.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
So fantastic.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
There's nothing in here saying that these companies shouldn't be
able to make a profit. Make a profit, you know.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
I'd be honest to that show it up from you.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Know what I'm really going to pay because if you
say it's this much and then I say I'll do it,
and the next thing, you know, I'm like, uh, I'm
not doing you know. I've got a link to the
story in the show notes for today at johnndtheidishow dot com.
Time say goodbye, Heide, goodbye, everybody, have a great day.
Thanks for listening to The John and Heidie Show on
a Thursday,
