Yes, this ringing. Hey ya, it's cute talks here.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
We're here Anthony in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
I'm here to see a podcast and a d J. Honey,
ry you do you see what I see? Like shinning? Yeah,
this is a story. Its keen, big trees, so ill

(00:39):
something you listen to the cup you shoes?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Hi?

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Kay?

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Okay? Than yeah shah jee still slashing. I know you

(01:12):
say so, sah I know you say this week's business
of the week.

Speaker 5 (01:29):
The secret to having it all is having a confidence
to uniquely be yourself. All right, actually, so I try
to sit in when you were born to stand out,
whether you're a mom, a businesswoman, a director, or all three.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
On your darling, I haven't you keep up on me?
Come on wing it to the world, stuppending independent, coming,
Come on, the man in the room.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Is more than just having it all is loving everything
about your so. So the fierce woman who create their
future with integrity and styles not confidence longer than their
braids and serve looks, locks and ponytails on the daily, well, slapstiny,
we are darling.

Speaker 6 (02:12):
It's the definition of text.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Independent women. Come on, I'm keeping me.

Speaker 7 (02:23):
Come on, tell me what it is.

Speaker 6 (02:28):
It's an uncle.

Speaker 7 (02:30):
If what I'm feeling now is I'm real.

Speaker 8 (02:34):
I get all wrapped in my head when I don't
understand you, your actions.

Speaker 7 (02:39):
Speaking louder than words. Come me grilling you now and
trilling you down and trilling you trying to get throudial
the things I would use it, dude it, And I
don't do to you the things I would use it.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Dude it. Yeah, so tell me what it is.

Speaker 7 (02:57):
I'm not inter reading minds or between the lines. Things
are better and the black girl white tell me what
it is. I'm not into reading minds or between the lines.
Things are better.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, I gave you my heart a gold play.

Speaker 8 (03:15):
You ate it up like your face.

Speaker 7 (03:19):
Preston Norway, like the ride dressed paconing.

Speaker 8 (03:25):
The thought, Yeah do you all about? I try to
get through the deepest, but you are there. I can't
get you the heart of that. I try and try
to fect you.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
The more and more it.

Speaker 7 (03:38):
Fucks me up, reading out from every cause you say
you protect me, you let me down.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I'm just gonna let you.

Speaker 7 (03:47):
In when you just let me.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:50):
So this is basically how I go about djaying and
doing things. It just depends on the type of set
that I'm gonna do. I I could range from hip
hop to R and B to reggae, thone to house
to just virtually almost anything. But the example I want
to show y'all is house.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Right here.

Speaker 6 (04:12):
I actually have this Channel Threats, Remix Tyler create Earthquake,
and I'm gonna go ahead and just play it for y'all,
so you see, I pretty much have it going, and
I'm gonna show you a basic transition. And right now
i'm selecting this well, I'm looking for a song to select,
kind of scrolling to see what makes sense. I think

(04:43):
Jared Jackson's Deep Down. So I have it and as
you can see, like the BBMS, right now, i'm at
one twenty. I actually want to bring it a little
bit slower because I feel like it matches the key
and then you see the key signatures.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Right now e major I want to d.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
I'm gonna blow this down just a little bit so
I can catch it. So I'm lining it up. It's
almost there, and right now I'm gonna transition it what

(05:28):
I want to do it alow off, but I'm gonna
use the turntable the jogger to get it right. And
right now I'm gonna bring up the fader so you
guys can see.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
I canna do a little effect.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
Remember I'm also counting one two more one two for
one shape and that's how you do a proper transition.
And for those who don't know, I'm using tractor pro.
And then I'll go and try to recollect the next song,

(06:16):
figure out what makes the most sense. I saw you.
I think I'm gonna do make Love coding courage again.

(06:36):
I'm just gonna take it down a little bit, slow
it down just so I can catch it. SE's a
little off.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
But I'm a nudget.

Speaker 6 (06:57):
Just make sure everything's lined up. It's called beat. Magic's
gonna bring this up. And now I'm a transition.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Wanna shot please for one share one sat please, sport
shait please support, want shot, want shoe.

Speaker 6 (07:23):
Please, And as you can see, a flawless transition. And
then once you can also do if you want to
get into the original BPM, you can just take the
tempo fader and get it up to one three, which
is original. Well, do it slow so it doesn't mess

(07:44):
up the flow. People on the dance floor. Let's su
see we're climbing up climbing up, building energy. We're there.
That's my little Jamo. Hopefully all enjoyed that.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Man.

Speaker 9 (08:27):
I know that you can't forget whatever it said. Now
you're gonna let me on red. They can't get you
out of my head. Perfect time and got me feeling
all bad. Now I'm all up in my bag.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
He went from.

Speaker 9 (08:38):
Listening to dan'l Caesar to a Diard to be read
and Diard.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Drama, go on away that got away.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Play here.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
But it's all on this playe everybody in the gay,
even they don't want to play. I don't about bad,
I don't about that.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
I'm going where.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
I'm going where I said, bound the raids of myself.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
I don't know where to go to get how thought
the hasl would be in well, but I, oh that
has to be dad.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Don't know where to go.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
But I'm telling you they're running and they're running and
running and running, y'all.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
It's cute talks.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Guess what I'm here with justin New Zack. You gotta
explain that to me. Oh yeah, so many people think
that that's my government, Like, yeah, that real name I
come from. You know what?

Speaker 4 (09:57):
I always wanted to be in a band, g musician
and everything, and I thought, like the musics would be
like such a dope fan name, like you know, it's
like like a different way that they use it, Like
it sounded like a really cool like music teacher, you
would have that like teachers.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
So that's why I was like Justin Musach, and I'm
literally the only Justin and spelling and everything. Come up
with it, all right, nobody.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I don't think I've ever told anybody this, but one
of my favorite shows growing up, like most people in
the nineties rous kids in the nineties, was Poweringe sh
and so I spelled Zach especially like, well technically how
the character Zach his name okay, come to like I

(10:46):
realized I should have changed it like and spelled it
like Zach z A C H. Why I think people
would pronounce the better because some people like still call
me Justin Music, and I'm just like, like what you
want you want to like that's my name, Like justin
music sounds corny, but Justin music like.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
It's the creative, Its smooth and cool, like that's a
cool guy, you know, just use that, you know, Well, okay,
let's talk to the school guy. He is a DJ
a podcaster.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Tell us what else do your hosting agent is all
around student, lover, lover of music, especially hip.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
That's my mains.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
I love it just now for somebody that does music
and all aspects of the music industry. Explains to those
who are out there who are interested in being in
LA and playing in Santa Monica in that mind that
can never mind you guys that we are in Santa
Monica and we right in to the fear and he's DJing.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
This is his resident location. So explain to people who
are interested in becoming a DJ. We're on the steps.
Let's start with this. How long have you been a DJ?
Let's start with that.

Speaker 4 (11:58):
Technically, I've been DJing in twenty eighteen, but I've always
been around music. I've been collecting music, digging for music
since like two thousand and six, okay, And so being
a musician, I was able to pick it up very fast.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
And I'll give it to technology too. It looks bit
easier too, but I mean OVID too over too.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
But my talent and the skills of DJ has always
been more winding, inviting the right records and creating a vine.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Actually I like to call it.

Speaker 4 (12:31):
An unforgettable, unforgettable vine. And on top of that, you know,
to plug in my show, the Great Rat Show. I
like to lay old and new together and some stuff
you've never heard before. So there's a whole methods of
my madness.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Explain the method because there are some people who are
out there that are DJ and they still do not
understand how to get the cloud to be as excited, right.

Speaker 4 (12:57):
I mean, I mean I want to answer your first question,
which is I kind of like, oh okay, but backpack.
But basically, like if I was to advise anybody to
you know, get into DJ, I would definitely say, study.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Music theory, understand musician ships first, musicians ship, learn how
to account, learn learn signatures, time, tigniss, you know, BPM.
That's the most important.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
These are new terms for me, you guys, because I'm
not using in the street, as you guys know. But
I like this, okay, So you got to learn how
to count? What's the counting?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
What's the mean?

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Some some songs or a lot of songs aren't more
more so it's moore accounts like one two three four,
I think about it. Next episode, Doctor J don't so
don't go one two three fun one two, So learn.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Learn how to account learn Like I said, Tom signs
is more four.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
I think that one the bpm is ninety five, like,
so understand like certain songs certain beats for measuring. Okay,
so that song in ninety five, you can go into
ninety five, but it might be a different key, so
make sure you're.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
In the right key.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
So that's how music theories is very important. You don't
have to start off with, you know, a bunch of
quipping like it depends. It's kind of choose your adventure,
your own cantre at this point, like if you want
to start on vinyl, you know what I'm saying, get yourself.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Is vinyl still a thing and there's a lot of
djng like they carry around the class with them.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
I have not been party yet, but they have a
Vinyl time code which will connect to their laptop and
basically Vinyl sends a signal to the laptop and then
they that's how they get down.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
I honestly did not think that people are still, like,
you know, making music with vinyl.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
So this is kind of new to me. Yeah, I think.

Speaker 4 (14:52):
But if you want to be totally digital, I mean,
get yourself a controller, I started off on a Newmark
partyment and ut.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
You a real DJ if you're on vinyl versus a controller. Look,
I think that that's the fight. I think, yeah, I
think that if you're on vinyl and can you kill it,
you're a turn type. Listen.

Speaker 4 (15:13):
I think that, like DJ is somebody who knows how
to read a role, pick, select the right records, laying
in transitions.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
That's that's that's what I think.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Now, let's rewind be the room. I feel like this
is where a lot of DJs go wrong, go wrong.
Just now, what is it that you do in terms
of reading a room? How do you feel like?

Speaker 1 (15:35):
When do you know what to play and when to
switch it up? What to do when all thats up?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
You know what?

Speaker 4 (15:41):
I usually like go into a scenario before. In my hand,
I'm like, am I gonna start with R and me?
I'm gonna start with house ring and don't Like I don't.
I never want to start off with like top forty
or really popular music or current music early because that
usually that's what gets the party cracking. Yeah, so take
that right, right, right, So if it's really low energy,

(16:05):
I'll go into R and B.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
If it feels like it's not Now I'll go into that.
What's an r P so on you'll play like I
started off with Brandy.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
I want to be there on Black or like Maje
Blue he is bringing it back. Yeah yeah, I real
love major blage here your job b plasure you like wow, wow,
I'll get I'll get into that tonight. I stuf my
house with the energy Santa Monica's frying it. Yeah, kind of,
just I don't want to start off with too low

(16:33):
energy because it's like houses are good.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
I get it, and then like bring it through again.

Speaker 4 (16:41):
If it looks like some some of the women want
to dance and like and if it like I said,
if it feels like that type of crowd, I'll go there.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Or if it's like real hip hop pads.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
People who like listen to you know, nineties stuff or
just like underground stuff. I mean that's my special team,
that's my born that's all. So all go into that
more like if it feels like the nineties two thousand,
start the thing.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
I'll do that. But it just once you read the crowd.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
And once you get that one person, you start getting
people They're like, Okay, this is where.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
I need to say this is where you start to understand.
Start to understand. Okay, so here's the steps you guys.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
You either play buying or digital and well no, no, no,
First and person you have to learn music, music theory,
music period number two you can join know or digital. Yeah,
and number three read the crowd. Learn how to read
the crowd. Would you say stepping numb before is after
reading the crowd?

Speaker 1 (17:33):
How do you all have to say? Like your library?
You know, build your library?

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Your library does hey? For those who are not, I mean,
I mean it depends. I mean it depends on what
type of DJ you want to be. Do you want
to be like more commercial playing top forty? Do you
want to be one that introduced music to people? Do
you want to specify in a specific genre. Do you
want it to be a house idiot? Okay, you want
to you know, just be hit my in R and

(18:00):
B like. It just really depends. So whatever you say
you are, I'm open formats some people.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Some people, some people would say that I'm not.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
I'm very niche sound like I'm very much like more
like groove oriented and chill.

Speaker 1 (18:15):
Okay, I get round, I turn up. I play shop
music too.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
But I can tell myself open format because I can
do a little bit of everything, Okay, I can.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
I can literally go from like supod to j Valven
to like David Ghetta and back.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
And so it's just easy easy just by counting, were
counting and understand vpms and she signatures and all that.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
A lot of it, A lot of the times I
know is by here. I'm self taught you how you
guys get a self taught?

Speaker 2 (18:48):
So so now now that we got through that step,
now let's talk about your livelihood.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Let's backtrack with COVID. How are you surviving as a
DJ during COVID? What are you doing? Radios?

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Though?

Speaker 1 (19:00):
I mean shout out to my family Sydnicy Radio.

Speaker 4 (19:03):
We've been doing this for about ten years, give or
takee pet and then you know, I'm ten years. And
then also I've done my solo show for going on
four years in four years January two.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
He's been on radio for ten years and now he's
doing his solo.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
Well, it's guys like this. We started doing internet radio
ten years ago. We didn't make it to the m
M until about twenty twenty. Sorry, he's on FM, you guys,
how many people are on FM? I hear am some
FM maybe, but.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
Like you on sm yeah what at one point by
jqbh so you hear that. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
So I host on two shows Syniki Radio. I'm a
calls in the DJ, Great lay Shaw, I'm the creator,
I'm the DJ. I do everything to that show, and
then I produced another show, Yeah, the Residents here in Santama,
Lizzy g So, I mean radio has been my main thing.
I also want to just go into your other question
about people don't want to get into the industry.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
I think that.

Speaker 4 (20:01):
If you want to get into the industry, I mean
you just started off, Gong. I started off just working
with artists because I used to make beans and everything.
So just whether you want to start DJing, whether you
want to start making beans, whether you want to be
more behind the scenes, just find somebody to shadow.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
That's what I was going to say. How how do
you find those people? Because finding artists.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
To work with you, I need to be honest.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
You can always use good old Instagram and and reach
out and someone who's local, someone who who might need
the help, and then you can go and try to,
you know, build that friendship and learn.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
Is that how you started by.

Speaker 4 (20:39):
Well, basically kind of That's how my introduction to the
industry was sitting in your radio because my friend introduced
me to King, the main host he's been doing that show.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Well, he was doing the show in the garage and
I came around.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
I was like, yo, like, I know a bunch of
people because I was rapping back then in high school,
and I was like, yo, like to help out and
do things. And then that led to me building my
network and from there, me and my best friend and manager, Nicostina.
Later down the line, we ended up at a booking
game to see because his girlfriend is a specialty nurse

(21:15):
and he was, oh, she was taking care of Adam
Hamilton's daughter, you know what I mean. Like, it's just
it's just little things like once you start that musical
journey and you start networking and talking.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
To people, it just slowly built, you know.

Speaker 4 (21:29):
And I mean, if you're a believer, is gone price
like I do, Like God will order your steps like that.
You just you just gotta just like look that energy
out there, believe in yourself, and the right people will
start pumping up, you know what I mean, Like, I
mean his interviews because Rosa and I in our network
because of ground school, the schools another great network too.

(21:50):
I mean I got my master's in music industry, and
so I've been able to get gigs and certain opportunities
because of my network and because of my professors.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
And things of that.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Just and you guys, I'm sorry, this is all new.
As you guys are learning, I'm learning as well.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
This is amazing, like yeah, yeah, amazing.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
And I'm big on just like.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Give it back and like whatever I've learned, you know,
passing knowledge and like for me, best knowledge.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
If I just end up dying and I never passed it,
send the latter back down. Yeah yeah, yeah, lap back,
teach one, you know what I mean. And and and
it's so many people. We're in an era where.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
It's a big popularity contest and people want followers, and
you know, how can I get a bunch of followers?
How can I give verified Like I just operate from
a world of like impact, this impact, Like even even
when I'm on the radio and playing of becoming martings,
Like sure, I'm not the biggest radio DJ in the world,
but like I'm playing artists from different states, in different countries,

(23:00):
and I'm giving them the half of dig you And
sometimes got the battery in their back to keep going,
and that was like the like for a lot of
people in the pandemic.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Sol Sure, I'm not I'm not interviewing little baby and breaking.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
You know, Mary, But but you know what, the artist
that I do interview or the artists that I do
play on the show rely appreciated that.

Speaker 1 (23:23):
That's freding my show, that my mission. And so I
think impact is impact. That's phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
So as impact impact, can you impact those out there
who are trying to be exactly where you are right now?

Speaker 1 (23:37):
What kind of word of inspiration on motivation would you
give them?

Speaker 4 (23:42):
I would I would just say, do you to the
hundred sin ten degree, like like I said before, if
you trust God and just believe in your.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Vision and here's the best of mind I could give you.
Do things from love, not for love, because a lot
of people do things just for the love and approval
and the validation of others. That's how you burn out.

Speaker 4 (24:07):
That's how longevity doesn't happen for you, because you're so
caught up in the limelight and people loving you.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
I do this because I love art.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
I'm not I don't fall in love with the people,
even though I got mad love for everybody, and you know,
I believe in inclusion and diversity and everybody coming together
in the community.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
I'm a DJ. Well, ultimately, I do this because I
have a mad love of far for music.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
That is my first love. That's my wife, and that's
good enough for me. And so even if I'm in
the crowd of a bunch of people who are on
my home, I always have to have phones on.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
And I'm living. So that's I do things, you know,
for the love of it. Now, I do things from
the love of it.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
From the love of it, not for the love of it. Well,
you guys, we're here with Justin Musak. He is spitting
gems for us. I do have one last question. Do
you still got bars?

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I do.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
I don't rap retired time. I mean, it is what
it is. But he's what he has to do.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
He is still in the music industry. He's still dominating
as a black man in America. Here Santamona, Los Angeles.
And that is what I'm going till later, y'all.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
By what up, y'all? This is Justin Muzak and you're
watching you talks. Keep it lot.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
All right, you guys. That is all we have with tonight,
I had a great interview with Justin Musaic and had
a time of my life.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
So till later, you guys, watch until next week, talk
this
