Speaker 1 (00:07):
You are listening to Julia's truck at Cafe Trucking News
out CBSA sets January date for five day human trafficking.
If I'm a little loud on the video, I apologize.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance CVSA has released the dates

(00:31):
for an upcoming human trafficking awareness event. The cvsa's Human
Traffic Awareness Initiative HTAi will take place between January thirteenth
through the seventeenth and twenty twenty five. In Canada is
going to be scheduled for February seventeenth through the twenty

(00:52):
first of twenty twenty five. In Mexico is going to
take place between March seventeenth and the twenty first of
twenty twenty five. During this five day event, these jurisdictions
will work to educate commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers,
law enforcement officers, and the general public about the crime

(01:15):
of human trafficking, what signs to look for, and what
to do if you suspect someone that's being trafficked. This
seeks to reduce human trafficking throughout North America, from Mexico,
through the United States into Canada through coordinated enforcement and
investigative and educational awareness measures within the commercial motor vehicle industry.

(01:41):
If you suspect someone that's being human.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Traffic or in a situation that they're being human trafficked,
or you are a victim of human trafficking. In the US,
you could call eight eight eight three seven three seven
eight eight eight. In Canada, you could call eight three
three nine zero zero one zero one zero. In Mexico

(02:08):
call one eight hundred five five three three zero zero zero.
Again in the US, if you're in the States, call
eight eight eight three seven three seven eight eighty eight.
Canada call eight three three nine zero zero one zero
one zero, And in Mexico you could call eight hundred

(02:32):
five five three three thousand. Trucker is slapped with citation
for festive holiday big rig light lighting. In other words,
he decorated his truck in all sorts of kinds of
Christmas lights. If you're listening to this on the audio
side of the podcast, and he got pulled over, the

(02:53):
Kansas Highway Patrol doled out a citation instead of Christmas
cheer after spotting a semi truck dressed up in lights
for the holiday season. This was back day after Thanksgiving.
Trooper Gardner took to social media explay why a recent
semi traffic stop ended up in a citation. Imagine you're

(03:14):
driving down the road and seeing red or blue lights
approaching from behind or coming toward you. Naturally, you might
want to slow down and pull to the right, thinking
it's an emergency vehicle. This split second reaction could create
confusion and even lead to a dangerous crash. That's exactly
why Trooper my stopped a semi earlier today that was

(03:37):
lit up with festive holiday lights, including red and blue
lighting displayed on the front of the cab. While the
display was interesting and joyful and very holiday full of fun,
these colors are reserved for emergency vehicles only and cannot
be used on commercial vehicles or cars on public roadways.

(04:02):
You could use green, yellow, or red, but no red
and blue in combination. The driver was sighted for unauthorized
additional lighting to ensure safety on our highways. Well, well,
you appreciate the holiday cheer. Let's keep the road safe
for everyone. Save the lights for home or on the tree.
But he had a lot of blue and red, I'm

(04:26):
sorry on his truck. Now, you could do a wreath,
you could do candy canes, this kind of thing on
a truck. I've done that. I had even a little
tree that I had zip tied to what I call
the oak crap handle next to the dash on the cab.
You know, that would light up at night when I

(04:48):
was sitting still. I never had it while I was driving,
never had it on. You could put that kind of
stuff on your grill. But this guy had the whole
front of the cab all strung up in lights. And
you could see that on the slide on our YouTube channel.
In case you're listening to this audio podcast. Up next

(05:10):
me pull up the article. A truck driver was arrested.
They caught the guy that fatally hit and run in Missouri.
If you remember the last episode that I did, elderly
gentleman was on the side of Interstate forty four changing

(05:30):
a tire was broke down, and a truck driver clipped
them and killed them. Well, they caught the guy. The
Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed that a semi truck driver
who was involved in a fatal hit and run a
long Eye forty four has been located and charged. This
shortly after six pm, the day after Thanksgiving, confirmed that

(05:54):
a truck driver had been taken into police custody, connect
you with the crash killed a pedestrian in cell and
troopers want to thank the public for their assistance in
locating this driver. The driver was later identified as Etem
Miseric or Mizark forty four of Florida. He was charge
of felony leaving the scene of a crash resulting in

(06:16):
death and in careless driving and a careless driving misdemeanor.
Again like I mentioned to you in the last episode,
this crash occurred about one thirty in the afternoon on
Thanksgiving a east bound I forty four near the two
twenty five mile marker. Troopers say that a pickup truck
and suv were parked along the side of the road

(06:36):
and a sixty year old man my age was changing
a tire, so now you know my age. A semi
truck left the right side of the interstate instruck themand
changing the tire as well as the suv and a
pickup truck the drivers. So I did not stay at
the crash scene and up next, forty million dollars in
cocaine was seized from a semi on the Illinois Iowa line.

(07:01):
Two men have been arrested after police found more than
forty million dollars worth of cocaine inside of a semi
truck excuse me, in the Midwest. The incidents occurred in
November twenty ninth at the Illinois Iowa state line about
two o'clock in the afternoon. According to the local news,
an officer pulled over a semi on I eighty to

(07:23):
conductive inspection. During the inspection, the trooper noticed a numerous
indicators of criminal activity, whatever that means, prompting them to
search the truck. One thousand, one hundred and forty six
pounds of cocaine were discovered inside the truck. This contraband

(07:44):
was estimated as street value of over forty million dollars.
Twenty seven year old I Can't even Von spret Sing
and thirty six year old Montprecing, both of Ontario, Canada,
were arrested following the discovery. So that's international trafficking. They're
both being charge of felony council possession of cocaine, possession

(08:08):
with a tempt to deliver, and cocaine trafficking. Both are
being held at the Henry County Jail to await their
court appearance, but it's across international borders because they're from Ontario, Canada,
so you can imagine they've been down to Texas or
even Mexico and trafficked it and they got as far

(08:31):
as Iowa, Illinois. I'm just saying this is just speculation
on my part that they got that far and we're
trafficking now. It could have came from California, it could
have came from on the New York side, so either way,
but eleven hundred packages pounds of cocaine, and you know

(08:53):
they're in bricks. As the picture shows on YouTube. There
is one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve,
thirty to forty fifty sixteen seventy eighteen nineteen twenty one
to two to three to fourty five to sixty seven
almost thirty rows of cocaine about chest high bricks of

(09:16):
cocaine pot stacked up because they offloaded it and they
had it in this warehouse and they took it out
of the trailer of the truck and there is the
pictures kind of blurt grainy about twenty high, So thirty
rows twenty high. That's a lot of bricks of cocaine
that got taken off the street, so thank you officers

(09:38):
for finding that. And in our next story, sorry it's
taken me so long that I'm going to get rid
of the white noise and the pauses in the audio recording.
As you know, I do both while I'm recording this.
This is something you audio people, little uh going behind

(10:00):
the scenes tidbit that you all get to know that
the video side doesn't get to hear, is that I'm
recording the video and the audio of the show at
the same time. So I'm having two computers working, two
microphones working, and having to do this right. You hear

(10:21):
a lot of clicking in the background, so I apologize
about that. But up next, four are hurt in a
multi vehicle crash that sends tractive trailer into condominiums. Four
people were hurt after a multi vehicle crash ended and
attractive trailer crashing into a building on Monday. The accident
happened on December second in Woodbridge, Virginia, at the twenty twelve,

(10:45):
seven hundred block of Gordon Boulevard around eight thirty in
the morning. According to the local news, a wreck involving
multiple vehicles left the car, a van, an suv, damaged
and sent a red pickup truck and attractive trailer into
the moorings of Oconquin Condominiums. Five people were evaluated for
injuries following the crash, and four were transported to a hospital.

(11:09):
No one inside the building was hurt damaged for the crash.
Was expected to display several residents. But the building still
needs to be evaluated, you know, if there's any structural
damage to the building. Gordon Boulevard was closed about directions
between I ninety five and Adwill Avenue as a result
of the crash. It may be advised it's going to

(11:31):
have an extended closure. The cause of the crash was
not released at the time of the writing of the article.
And in this story, seventeen vehicle pilop shuts down a
Michigan interstate A major pilop was reported near Hatford, Michigan,
on Monday afternoon. Just trying to get a little Connecticut

(11:52):
accent in there, sorry, According to Michigan State Police, the
crash occurred shortly after noon on I ninety four in
Van Buren County. Troopers say that approximately fourteen passenger vehicles
had three semi trucks were involved in a pilop near
milemarker forty six. In addition to the seventeen vehicle involved

(12:15):
in the crash, said that fifteen other vehicles were involved
in slide offs near the crash. Please say that driving
too fast for a condition is believed to be a
factor with heavy blowing snow producing wide out conditions. Both
directions of I ninety four were closed that day and
at the time of the writing the article, there was

(12:35):
no time that they knew the interstate was going to
be reopened. So for any Newbee drivers are finding just
finding this podcast and finding the show, I do give
out tips and tricks about adverse weather conditions. I am
a thirty six year veteran solo woman driver with five

(12:57):
million safe driving miles. Never went in a ditch, never
slid off the road, never did a donut, never hit anybody,
not even in bad adverse conditions or anything. Across Michigan
on I ninety four with the two lakes in between
the state, there is always, always, always white out conditions

(13:19):
in that area. Always if there is a winter weather
storm coming through that area. On I ninety four, going
from like Chicago to Detroit, it's always white out conditions there.
It's just how the location is it's really nuts and
in this story, three hundred and sixty two commercial vehicles

(13:42):
are inspected during a three day blitz in Arizona. Multiple
agencies partner for a three day vehicle enforcement operation in
Arizona that sidelined dozens of trucks and drivers. On December one,
Arizona Department of Transportation release the results from a commercial
vehicle enforcement operation that took place. Now this was back

(14:05):
in October, but these are the results of it. During
Operation Blended Patch, three hundred and sixty two commercial vehicle
inspections were performed, resulting in eighty two drivers at vehicles
putting it being put out of service, meaning you can't drive,
you gotta park it. It was during the operation. Level

(14:25):
two commercial vehicle inspections were performed, but an emphasis on
driver qualification, behavior, impairment, eleds, electronic logging devices, and the
Level two inspection consists of a visual walkaround of the
vehicle for any plane view violations, lights, mirrors, busted windshield,

(14:49):
does your wiper work? Does your horn work? You know,
is their wire hanging down? Do you got holes into
your airlines? You know this kind of thing. Also, your credentials,
your driver's license, your insurance, your registration, and are the brakes.
You know they're not really checking brakes, but you know

(15:10):
you have any holes in the floor, you're landing gear work,
this kind of thing. So, yeah, three hundred and sixty
two vehicles were inspected and they found all kinds of
violations that put a bunch of them, Like they mentioned,
a bunch of them out of service. Eighty two were

(15:30):
put out of service. Now in the next story, Louisville
is pulling something now. Reduce commercial vehicle weight limits going
to effect on the Louisville Bridge. Kentucky Transportation officials announced
the lower commercial vehicle weight limits will go into effect
on busy Louisville Bridge. This started December third. Reduced weight

(15:56):
limits will go into effect on the Clark Memorial Bridge,
also known as the Second Street Bridge, over the Ohio River,
connecting downtown Louisville to southern Indiana. Type one is twenty
tons no change. Type two twenty five tons was previably
knocked it down from twenty seven tons previously thirty four tons.

(16:19):
Type three went dropped it down to twenty nine ton.
Type four there was previously forty tons, down to thirty
six five axles was previously forty tons down to thirty one. So,
in other words, you're eighty thousand pounds. You can't go
over the bridge thirty one ton, that's only two thousand pounds.

(16:42):
That's suddenly sixty two thousand pounds. You can't go over
that bridge anymore. Six axles previously forty tons dropped it
down to thirty two. So I guess they're routing semi
trucks around the bridge now. Seven plus axles i w
forty one tons dropped it down to thirty four. Truck
drivers operating via goles exceeding these weight limits are asked
to use alternate routes excuse me, excuse me, including the

(17:07):
Sherman Minton Bridge I sixty four or Abraham Lincoln John F.
Kennedy Memorial Bridge I sixty five in downtown Louisville. The
decision to lower weight limits came following an inspection of
the ninety five year old bridge structure. While the bridge
remained safe for car drivers, the inspection and subsequent analysis

(17:27):
found that the deterioration has progressed to the point where
weight limit restrictions are needed to better protect the structure
from damage, and it sure continued safety to all traffic.
So again, this is a steel bridge going over the
Ohio River and it's the Clark Memorial Bridge also known

(17:47):
as the Second Street Bridge. Commercial vehicles stay off of it.
Stay on sixty four or sixty five if you're going
through downtown Louisville. And in this next story, another truck band.
A proposed truck ban on the Bridge of America's raising
concerns for the officials on the Mexican border. A proposal

(18:09):
banning all commercial vehicles from using the Bridge of Americas
is raising concern in Mexico. The US General Services Administration
proposed eliminating all cargo traffic on the Bridge of Americas.
This was back in September. The potential ban is part
of a seven hundred million dollar project created to improve
infrastructure along the fifty seven year old bridge connecting El Paso,

(18:33):
Texas Tuarez, Mexico. These improvements would include a new administration,
building lanes for pedestrians and passenger vehicle lanes. They proposed
three options following an environmental impact study regarding the project.
One option ban truck traffic during construction, one ban's truck

(18:53):
traffic permanently, and the third would not ban trucks, but
no modernization would be made to the port. They say
that banning commercial trucks permanently is its preferred option. The
project is scheduled to begin in twenty twenty six and
last about three years. The Bridge of America is one
of two bridges that carry commercial trucks across the border.

(19:14):
Approximately five hundred trucks cross the Northern Bridge of Americas
each day, while the is Letty Ziago International Bridge sees
more than twelve hundred commercial trucks per day. That bridge
also charges nine dollars per vehicle with five axles and
four point fifty for each additional axle. The Bridge of

(19:37):
Americas does not charge a toll. That's why there's a
lot of trucks going over that they'll pass. The city
council voting New National unanimously to write the GSA a
letter of support for the truck ban in September. Now,
the mayor of Wuarez, Mexico is sending a letter to
the US State Department expressing concerns for the proposed commercial

(20:00):
motor vehicle ban at the bridge. We need more bridges,
more operating hours, and more US customs and Border protection personnel,
says the board member of the Mexican Chamber of Industry,
like our Chamber of Commerce, said the local news is
Leta has too much traffic. If they close Bota Bridge

(20:22):
of Americas, we will have to find other ways to
send our exports. And in this next story, Nevada troopers
to send GEO targeted messages directly to your electronic logging
device or ELD, right onto the screen. The Nevada Highway
Patrol announced a new program to deliver real time alerts

(20:45):
directly to commercial drivers through the electronic logging device. December third,
they announced the launch of a new program at partnership
with drive wise to send targeted alerts directly to eleds
using geofen technology to provide location specific information. Now drive
Wise is a ELD program for bypassing way stations just

(21:13):
like your easy Pass. Officials say they will use the
new system divide truckers with updates on dangerous weather, chain requirements,
high wind warnings, construction zone information, and traffic hazards in
bold high visibility formats like yellow background with black lettering,
capital letters, etc. Trooper se that ELED alert system could

(21:37):
be especially useful during the winter months and places like
Reno cars, sid City and Tahoe. Now that's good on
one hand, But on the flip side, wouldn't it be
considered a distraction? And don't we have enough distraction while
we're driving. Nevada's diverse terrain and challenging driving conditions, coupled
with our position as a major transportation order make initiatives

(22:01):
like these essential. And are they gonna be in multi languages?
Nobody ever thought that question. So many drivers are of
foreign ethnicity. Are they gonna be in multi languages or
is it all gonna be in English? Good question. With
increased truck traffic at vital interstates running coast to coast,

(22:24):
these real time messages will help prevent crashes and improve
safety for all drivers, not necessarily in my personal opinion,
We're proud to be at the forefront of using technology
to improve highway safety. It takes just one check that
truck to shut down an interstate the system, and it's
always the trucker's fault. Let alone, people are doing one

(22:47):
hundred miles an hour across the Vada. This system allows
us to reactively address hazards and keep traffic flowing smoothly.
So you think state police in Michigan and California have
recently ruled out similar ELB alert systems. I didn't know
that either. And in this story, troopers say a driver

(23:10):
had regard air quotes for safety of others during a
police chase that ended at away station. Really a truck
driver that refused to stop for police, but he operated
in a safe manner during the pursuit. Any police chase
isn't safe. See this is this is the news. You know.

(23:33):
They're they're trying to minimize the police pursuit. But he
operated in a safe manner. Not here's supposed to pull
over and stop, not keep on going. The chase occurred
December third, Dear Des Moines, Iowa, starting about six point
thirty in the morning. There's plenty of on ramps and

(23:53):
everything to pull over near there. According to the local
news outlet, police initially re responded to calls reporting a
semi truck dragging a chain on I eighty near Underwood,
creating sparks. Officers located him near a vocap, but the
driver did not stop as police directed and continued along

(24:14):
EYE eighty. The guy ain't stopping for you'all. What are
you talking about. I'm not doing nothing wrong. Several law
enforcement agencies deployed stopsticks once we pursue reached the moines,
deflating several tires on the rig, but he continued going.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
So that's safe.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Really, the truck's on its rims, but that's safe. And
it continued for another two hours when officers finally forced
him to enter into a way station. Officers then used
tear gas to force the driver out of his cab,
who was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Well, yeah,
after you doss with tear gas, Well hello, that's why

(24:52):
don't you pepper spray while you're at it. Officers involved
in the instid of say that it's unclear why the
truck driver would not stop, but did not appear like
he had a malicious intent. Really, this driver actually was
driving with due regard for during the safety of others.
He was taking measures to be safe as he was driving,
even though he was not stopping for law enforcement. Can

(25:15):
we say no oble, no englash, But yet they were
using signs for him to stop and he still couldn't understand. Yeah, okay,
and in this next story, people are gonna be without jobs.
Sorry to have to share this. Tyson Foods to close
plants in Kansas and Pennsylvania, resulting in hundreds of layoffs.

(25:41):
Kansas plant to close in February, Philadelphia location to close
in January. Tyson Foods will reportedly shudder the company's Emporia,
Kansas beef and pork plant in February of twenty twenty five,
resulting in the layoff of about eight hundred work. Now,

(26:01):
if you're not familiar with Emporia, Kansas, because I used
to drive a refrigerated trailer, been there plenty of times
picking up for Tyson. It is out in the middle
of nowhere on Highway fifty. So they are displacing eight
hundred people without work. There is not a lot of

(26:21):
industry there, so really, Tyson said about two hundred of
those workers would be shifted to the Holcombe facility and
others would be offered transfer opportunities. Uh huh, you're gonna
move them. You're gonna pay for my moving. You're gonna
pay for the first month's rent and deposit for me

(26:42):
to move into someplace else. You're gonna displace me out
of my home, my kids, out of the school, and everything,
to go work someplace else. I'd be pissed, the City
of Emporia issued the following statement. The City of Emporia,
along with Lyon County, the Regional Development Association, and Poor
Emporia Main Street and Pooria Chamber Commerce. I can't talk today.

(27:06):
Flint Hill's Technical College and Emporia State University acknowledges They're like,
we all know this announce closure of Tyson Fresh Meats.
Our thoughts are Our thoughts are with the employees and
families are affected by this transition. What are you gonna
do to help? Tyson has been a valuable corporate partner
over the years, and we are grateful for their contribution

(27:28):
to our community. Can we say birth our collective priorities
to support impacted workers?

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
We are collaborating with local organizations, state agencies, and workforce
development partners to provide resources, job placement assistance, and training opportunities.
Are you gonna enticson? You're gonna give them a severage package?
If your shutter in the plant, that means it ain't
doing good, that means it's losing money. Are you going

(28:00):
to offer them employees six hundred employees any kind of
a severance package? You're only moving two hundred. What's gonna
happen with the other six hundred quote the news of
Tyson's closing the plant in Aporia breaks my heart. Ah,
but how are those six hundred people supposed to pay
their bills? Which you're broken heart? This facility's one of

(28:22):
the largest employers in the region and his closure will
leave hundreds of employees. You think this is devastating news
for these families in the community, especially at Christmas time,
says Senator Roger Marshall. Why don't you take some severance
that you're getting over Christmas for being a state senator

(28:43):
and help the people out. Why don't you give them
contributions and help them out like some of the country
stars are helping out the people with the hurricane and
everything in North Carolina? Senator, why don't you Why don't
the state legislatures start helping these displaced workers out? Now,
let's go on to what's going on with the Philadelphia location.

(29:04):
They also filed notice with Pennsylvania Labor Officials indicating that
it will close two facilities in Philadelphia in twenty twenty five.
They will close two of their Philadelphia plants, located at
four thousand and one North America Street and five twenty
East Huntington Park Avenue on the thirty first of January.

(29:26):
A total of two hundred and twenty nine workers will
be affected by those plant closures. Two hundred and twenty
compared to eight hundred in Kansas. Tyson Food say to
that the Philadelphia facility closures were made to increase operational efficiency.
Everybody's still buying beef and chicken. We still need to eat.

(29:46):
What's going on with the income from everybody? You're raising
prices on food, but yeah, you're having a closed plants down.
Who's where's the money going? Is my question that the
easiest thing for you to do is displace people working.
I can't wait till January twentieth, just saying. And for

(30:07):
the audio side, I greatly appreciate you all listened to
the show. Thank you so much for listening to me.

I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
