(00:00):
KBA on three point nine AFM backin the morning. Here, Jason Davis
is with us. You used tobe an officer with the Burnett Police Department,
but now you're retired. Huh yes, sir, retired after twenty years
with the police department. Wow,that's cool. Well, thank you so
much for your service. We appreciateit. Thinking and you just can't completely
get out of it, can you? No, I don't really want to.

(00:23):
Jason is here to talk about theBurnett Police Departments Thanksgiving dinner that they're
serving on Wednesday this year, justto you know, just this week,
right day before Thanksgiving. Why didy'all even start this? And how long
has it been going on? Allthat stuff? Sure, back in twenty
twenty, kind of at the heightof COVID, when everybody couldn't be together
with their families and things, wewanted to find a way to give back

(00:44):
and do something so people could havea Thanksgiving meal that weren't going to be
able to be with their families andjust kind of evolved from there. And
like I said, it started intwenty twenty, So this will be our
fourth year doing it. Okay, good And even though everybody gets out and
around now, do you find thatfolks still want to come and still want
to grab a dinner with you? They do, and actually it's growing.

(01:04):
It's we have more people that lastyear. We had more people last year
than we did at the beginning ofit. So how many did you feed
last year? Right around six hundred? Wow? Really, sir, Wow,
that's amazing. So you expect evenmore this year? What? What?
What can we expect? What kindof Thanksgiving dinner you got going?
Or traditional Thanksgiving dinner? We'll getout and smoke turkeys and have all the

(01:26):
traditional sides and everything. Okay,So do the folks in the police department
look forward to this every year?Yes, sir, I think so.
I think that it's a good wayfor the officers and their families to come
and be together and to be ableto give back a little bit more more.
A very fortunate and it's just youknow, being a police officer,
that's one of the things you dois you try to help people, and
so this is one of the waysthat we can do that. That's neat.

(01:48):
So police officers and their families comeand help serve this, that's correct.
We have officers, spouses, kids, right, kids? Yeah,
everything. Everybody gets into it togetherand it's it's really a fun thing for
us to do internally. And then, like I said, to be able
to give back something to the community. Do we have to have reservations or
have to call ahead or anything. How's it work? No, it's pretty

(02:10):
simple. You just pull up andtell us how many plates you want.
It's all to go. We makeit that way so people can just take
it home and they can eat,so they get a nice hot meal,
they're in and out of there. We try to get everybody in and out
pretty quick. And like I said, it's just you just pull up,
tell us how many plates you need, and then we'll fix them and send
them out to you. Get readyfor it. Huh. And you said

(02:30):
it's all to go? Where isit all to go? Where do you
Where do you stage this? Yep? So we're inside of the police department.
We have a room inside there. You just pull up out in front
of the police department. We'll haveit blocked off and just you'll just be
able to see the cars in frontand just pull in there and you'll be
in and out. And that's rightthere. On two. Any one next
door to the fire station huh. This or two thousand South Water Okay.

(02:53):
So, and that's a big olddriveway because we spend our toy drive and
our Thanksgiving food drive there too,so there's a lot of room. They'll
they'll run you right through there andhave you have you in and out,
probably no time at all. Well, again, Jason, thank you for
doing this for the community. Again, thank you for what you've done for
the community for twenty years. Andnow you're out building homes and enjoying yourself,

(03:15):
I hope, and still doing thisThanksgiving dinner. Is there anything we
missed? No, it's from threeto six on Wednesday, And like I
said, if you get there earlyand you want to line up and as
soon as we're ready, we'll startserving. And well, I guess one
last question is who is this for? You have to be a resident of
burnt or how does it work?Well, you can be a resident of
the city and or you know,we're trying to expand a little bit.

(03:38):
So if you're in really Burnet Countyand you need it and you want to
come by, you feel free tocome by and we'll serve you. No,
we're going to serve it till werun out. You're not checking addresses
or anything. Okay, that's atthe Burnett Police Department. Has happened on
Wednesday from three to six pm.Thank you for doing this. I know
the community's going to enjoy it andsmoke turkey. Man, you can't beat
that. Yeah, it's pretty prettyfun, pretty neat idea. And we

(03:59):
appreciate you, and thanks community forthe support, and thank you KB for
letting us do this and be apart of it.
