Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is the big show down this week between the
Marble Falls Mustangs and the Burna Bulldogs. And we're talking
with Marble Falls head coach Carrie Timmerman. How you doing
coach good Ben? How are you doing well? All right?
So before we get to the big showdown this week,
let's talk about last week's heartbreaker twenty eight twenty seven
Divine Wins. It was a game, y'all had the lead

(00:20):
and then fifteen seconds ago Di Vine score. So your
your thoughts on that tough loss Friday night.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
You know, I thought the kids played really, really hard.
I thought we played a very clean game. I was
talking earlier with you about just the you know, it's
first game we've had. We had one penalty total. That
penalty just happened to take six points off the board
going into score that would have sealed the game. And
then you know, we had some tough decisions to make.
Decided to see if we could hold them. Our defense
played really well most of the night, and know it

(00:46):
made him have long drives. You know, had an eighty
yard drive to win with take eight minutes off the
clock roughly, and so we felt like that was the
you know, the right decision I looked at it and
just one of those things that, you know, hindsight probably
should have gone for it, should have gone for the
the on the fourth down instead of on third downstead
of kicking it on fourth. But just felt like this
was the right decision to kick it and get the

(01:07):
points and go up six, and then we're gonna hold
them on defense, and they weren't going to kick a
field goal. They were going to go So, you know,
hats off the Divine. They played really really well. They
had two other starters out two and twenty two, two
really good backs, and played a really physical game. They're
they're a good football team, you know. I think it
really really helped us kind of figure out, you know,
who we were offensively and defensively. I think it was

(01:28):
a good game for us to kind of find some
things out. Just lots of close ones this year, lots
of close ones.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
So on that touchdown, it would have made it a
two possession ball game, but instead the stayed a six
point ball. Six point game became a six point game,
and then Divine went ahead and drove down to the field.
But that second half, y'all really dominated. Other than that
last drive, they didn't score, and y'all were really putting
some drives together in that second half. What changed in

(01:54):
the second half, I.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Think we just found a rhythm, you know. I mean
we had we missed about two shots early on in
the first half, you know, drove down, scored, came back
down and scored again, and then that third drive. We
just they eat so much clock going in before half.
You know, we were trying to kill the clock on
a possession to take set up and take another shot.
H our our quarterback you know, didn't didn't see the
kill sign and through another possession which wound the clock

(02:16):
again and ended up being a first down, but out
of timeouts needed that needed that that possession, and so
then we took a shot and and just missed, you know,
got sacked on the go. So you know, came out
really felt like we could throw the ball on them,
and had a couple of things that we wanted to
do against them to take some shots, had a great
return from wile Ken Aguilar, and then set us up

(02:36):
for a quick you know, three possession score and then
went for two. You know, got everything tied up and
just felt like we were kind of rolling with it.
The the again problem with the team like that is
just you know, getting off the field and and there
they do what they do really well. They run the
version of the wing slot t a little bit of
flex bone and they just they they operated it down
the field on us and got a couple of stops,

(02:57):
but just couldn't quite finish in the end. Had a
couple of injuries in the game, and so I feel like,
you know, we're just finding that inch. Is kind of
why I told the kids, I think this week's going
to be all about that, how do we find that
inch to finish?

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Divine really liked that toss off the tackle. They seemed
like they were running out every play.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, they ran a variation of toss and they'd run
toss powers, they'd run outside and then they'd set you
up and come back underneath. And physical blockers. Had a big, big,
strong offensive line and just like I said, very very
disciplined at what they did. I thought they did a
really good job keeping the clock and managing it. You know,
we had that that that eight minute drive roughly that
they took and we had fifteen seconds at the end

(03:34):
and really thought we had them on that fourth down,
but you know, they got it. And that's the kind
of home field advantage part. You just got to got
to make them, make them not even have an inch.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
So we're there, all right. So that's a wrap on
that ball game twenty eight twenty seven Divine. Now you
move ahead and you get ready for not only your
your first district game of the season, it's a big one.
It's also a big county showdown against the Burnad Bulldog.
So how's the team responded that for that last second heartbreak?

(04:04):
And now you move forward to the rivalry ballgame in
your district opener.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
I think the kids are doing a great job responding.
We had a good practice today. I think you know,
it's a long haul. It's a long weekend when you
get back at you know, one point thirty two in
the morning and trying to recover in treatment on Saturday
and then try to relax a little bit on Sunday
and then pop back up early Monday morning. I think
our kids are doing a really good job of responding
to that. Been really pleased with it. I think the
focus for us has been just you know, it's the

(04:29):
next game, and it's the district game. We've talked about
our two goals. You one hundredercent academic passing and then
are our playoff goal. And so right now it's in
front of us. Now we start district. You know, it's
all there. Just get to game eleven. And so it's
what we talk to kids about today is just you know,
push out, narrow your focus, you know, listen to people
on the walls inside of the building. I think a
lot of people love rivalries, people that are not football teams.

(04:51):
Football teams. You know, we don't want to get caught
up in It's like homecoming. I told you that, we
don't want to get caught up in it. We want
to be focused on execution and focus on detail. They're
just other team. They're just they're just the team standing
in our way on Friday night. Uh, you know, let
the let the people outside of that worry about the
rivalry and let's just focus on playing clean football. And
I think we've done a good job every week of
getting a little bit cleaner in everything we're doing.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Since you've been here since January, have you been hearing
stories about this rivalry ball game between burn and Marble Falls.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Oh yeah, I mean, I mean I heard about it
when I took the job and then I got here
and it was the first thing people, you know, everyone,
everyone came and is like, you know, just just circle burne.
It just circle burn it so and I love that.
I mean that's what football is about. You know, I
put in my parent letter yesterday. You know, small town
football rivalries or what make Texas special. Uh. You know
when you when you have those teams that have played
each other for years and you have that, you know,

(05:39):
families that have grown up and played against each other. Uh,
there's something special about it. Uh there's also something dangerous
about it on the team because they start feeling or
hearing or seeing things that shouldn't affect them. And so
we're just trying to make sure everybody understands, like, let's
just focus on first district game. It's gonna it's been
a long season to get the district. You know, we
we were relatively healthy. Let's just focus on winning the game.
Let's folks on what we got to do to do that.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
All right. So that's the big Burnham Marble Falls ballgame,
happening this Friday evening, seven o'clock evertime, right here on
KBA and video stream at Daily trip dot com. Coach
good luck to hear this week.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
Thanks Ben, appreciate it.
