Speaker 1 (00:00):
A couple of guests in the studio, Pedro Garcia, who's

(00:02):
the bilingual director, and Meghan Hamilton, who's communication specialist, both
with the Marble Falls Independent School District. Hi, y'all, how
are you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
We're doing well. Thank you so much for having us,
So you're welcome.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Megan Okay, Megan was just in the other day with you.
We're just talking about something else. So this is your
busy time of year right now. Huh I guess school.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Year is your business every time of the year.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Pedro, you're the bilingual director of the school district. What
does that mean?

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well, we are so blessed to be able to serve
in the school district, specifically to procure the best strategies
and best learning opportunities for our margin biling Wull students
at the district.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Do you have a lot of kids that need extra
help because of a language barrier?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
We do, yeah, And so the district is continuously seeking
for opportunities to be able to meet those needs. And
those are linguistics and then it could be academic needs
as well.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Sure, And does that does that go on from pre
k all the way through high school?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Absolutely? Really, we have students who come into our system
from the pre K and then later rivals even including
in the in the high school level, secondary level. So
absolutely yes, so you get a hold. And so the
commitment from the district is to love and inspire every
every child, and we do that and to all students,

(01:30):
including the margin BI linguist students.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yes, sir, well that's that's that's neat that we're able
to serve. I know, I don't know what is it
state law that says we you know, we're committed to
give every student, uh what is it free and fair
education or well, I don't even know the words, but
it's something like that. So that's part of the ISD's
commitment to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
You're absolutely correct. In our district, we not only develop
our students the cognitive, the thinking skills, the linguistic skills
as well. But before we even do that, we make
sure we love them. We procure to seek opportunity so
they identify their cultural heritage and bring it to the table.

(02:12):
I'd make our community more robust and understanding. Absolutely make it.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
I'm gonna turn to you for this. It's more of
a comment than anything. I think someone who's not who
doesn't have contact with the schools or school district every day.
Maybe their kids are already out or whatever. You may think, Oh,
that's just that's so much lip service. Love and inspire.
That's really I mean, I know because my wife's in

(02:39):
the school district right and then dealing with y'all, I
mean all of y'all that work with the school district
love those kids.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, and I see it as an employee, but then
also as a parent. I have two kids in the
district and we're here because of the way that the
district loves and inspires the kids. It's really community folks,
and community driven. I think Marble Falls Id is good
about looking at the big picture.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
You know, that's neat that that we have that commitment
right here in our own in our hometown too. And
tell what I do for a living and try my
best to talk this morning. So Pedro, we've got an
event on Thursday that you really you're kind of here
to talk about that you want to invite the community to.

(03:27):
I'm guessing, huh, yes, thank you.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
But you got one of one of the most exciting
projects I've heard about once I joined the school district
was the Hispanic heritage celebration that it's been done every year,
and we're calling it a fiesta this time around. And
we're excited to invite the community because this is really

(03:49):
showcasing how much the students bring to the table their
heritage as well and their their language. And so what
we're doing is an event which students are going to
be performing. The students are going to be the ones
guiding the event, and it's going to be center about
what students can do. It's really no adult on stage

(04:10):
at all. I promise you that you don't want to
see me on stage. You don't want to hear me
on stage. It's going to be all our kidds, and
so that's fantastic. We have participation from every single campus
in the school district. That's me from our high schools,
our middle school and all are elementary. So I think
that's super important to highlight we are making sure that

(04:32):
it is student driven. We're also including the community because
guess what, there's going to be opportunities to have dinner
at that event. Food, there's going to be food selling,
and it's the community bringing in that. We certainly looking
forward to that the event is going to take place
in October the twenty fourth, this coming Thursday, and it's

(04:56):
going to start the program. The performances are going to
start at six pm on the dots, so we encourage
everyone that wants to participate and attend and see our
kids on stage for about an hour and it's going
to start right at six Okay. We're also inviting the
public to come and of course participate and partake in

(05:17):
and the food and have a nice, nice time out there.
The performances, specifically on stage from the kids are going
to be different songs from different Hispanic countries in Latin America.
So it promises to be really fun for everyone that's neat.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
It's really a good opportunity for students to share their
culture and for students who maybe have not been exposed
to that culture before to come and participate and see
what it's about and really understand, you know, the community feel.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And I think good for just community members too to
come out and say this is what's going on in schools.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yeah, it's really neat. They have, like you said, there's vendors,
local vendors who are really family members of students to share,
you know, different dishes that are from their families, Yes,
and then seeing the the kids get excited about the
dances and you know it's it's really a cool event.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
So that's need. So it's Hispanic heritage, Yes, Yesta, that's
right on Thursday, starting at six pm on the dot
at the high school auditorium. Is that right?

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Excellent?

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Yes, very good, it's going to be.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Let me give the address if you don't mind, please,
it's twenty one oh one Mustang Drive look here in
Marble Falls and it's the auditorium ad Jason, just to
the high school.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Good. You can't miss it once you get there. I'm
sure people will be streaming in and you want to
get there early so you can get a good seat
and enjoy the evening. Is there anything else we need
to put in there that you need to get said?

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Absolutely? Thank you for that. I just want to highlight
Margaret McCowan out of the C and I Department. It's
really fundamental making sure this event happens. She's really bringing
it all together. Okay, I appreciate her.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Thank you all for coming in. Thank you for what
you do for our diverse population here in Marble Falls.
It's a great thing and you're welcome back. Anytime to
talk about anything y'all need.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
Appreciate you so much, Thanks for having us
