KA one O three point nine FM. A guest in the studio this morning
is Tamra Kott, who is acounty extension agent. Correct. Yes,
sir, tam how are you good? Good? Thanks for coming in this
morning. Yeah, thanks for havingme. Well, we're here to talk
about the Kingsland four H community foodDrive and we'll get to that in just
a minute. But so you're anextension agent with with the with is that

(00:23):
A and M? How does thatwork? So it's Texas A and M
Agrolife Extension and I actually deal withthe four H and youth development side in
Alanto Ortlano County. Huh So anykind of youth activity or any four H
activity, you're going to find meinvolved. You're going to be right there.
Huh. Okay, good. Howhow did you get into that?

(00:43):
What you did? You go toschool and decide well, I'm want to
do that. So well, mydad was a county agent in junction.
He was an ag agent, andI actually originally started out not wanting to
do that, but going to college. I went to college at A and
M for animal science and then alsocase State and animal science as well as
A state. Okay, I justreally liked working with kids, and we're

(01:07):
working with the four h So that'sneat. That's kind of where I decided
to go with it. So anytimeI have had any interaction with your organization,
with Eckerlife or Extension Service or anything, I have found that you guys
are so prepared for what you doand what you put on and like the
events the seminars. I went toa thing about private water wells last year

(01:33):
or maybe earlier this year, andI walked away with a book and an
armload of material. That was justit was just amazing the amount of preparation
and the knowledge that goes in.Must feel good to be part of that.
Huh No, it's great. Wehave such a wide network of specialists
and just people that we can call. You walk away with an armload of

(01:53):
stuff and we've got double just tryingto find people on that kind of thing.
I've found that that, like yousaid, there's a specialist for just
about anything. And I don't thinkpeople realize that the resources that y'all have
are really kind of available to allof us online. Oh yes, yep,
we offer I mean we're here tohelp. We're a service organization.

(02:15):
I mean We're here to help everybodyand we like doing it. So that's
that's really cool. And I knowI'm not alone in appreciating what y'all do.
But what we're here to talk abouttoday is the Kingsland Four Age Community
Food Drive. It's going on actuallyright now. It goes on all month
pretty much. Yeah. It's actuallysomething you know when you talked about us

(02:35):
being prepared, it's kind of oneof those things. We noticed it was
Tackle Hunger Month, uh huh inOctober and we really wanted to do something
with the community and involve the communityin Kingsland, and we kind of threw
it together. We were excited aboutit and got it together really quick.
Actually. So so you're collecting, you're collecting food around in several places,

(02:59):
and we'll talk about this. Whatkind of food items are you looking for?
So any kind of dried food goods, mac and cheese is a big
one, canned foods, peanut butter, that kind of thing, anything you
would expect in a normal food drive, I mean looking for it. Do
you find that there are certain thingsthat people bring to a food drive that

(03:19):
you know, maybe you ought tothink about bringing something else. Well,
we were just actually talking about thatthe other day at our at our Hammon
bean lunch that was last week beans, I believe it or not. People
will be bringing bags of beans andit's just like hold them. Really,
you got plenty of means. Yes, yeah, And a lot of people
don't think about things like well Ican't I can't remember. But but items

(03:45):
that are going to require three orfour more items to prepare exactly, that's
not really that necessarily a good thingfor a food drive. Yeah, you
want things that people can take homeand fix right now exactly. Soups.
Soups are really great and they canbe really nutritious as well. Beeferni that

(04:06):
you know, things that you canjust eat and eat are really good.
That's good. That's good. Okay. So this food drive is going on
now through October twenty. So weput that date down. That's actually the
Pack Saddle Elementary's trunk or treat date. Oh okay, So we're going to
end it there. We're going tohave a big trunk there and have our

(04:29):
boxes set up over there. Okay, So while everybody's coming through getting candy,
bring some canned goods or some fooditems and drop in your box too.
That's what we're hoping for. Okay, good, good, Well we'll
just get the word out and keepthat in mind as you're heading out there.
So what are the different intake areas? I should say that better.
You know, we're the different boxesaround town. Yeah, so we dropped

(04:50):
off boxes. We have cost Superior. They're out on the main strip of
Kingsland, Kingsland health Mart, thePharmacy, Hearing, the Buddy's gas station,
and then Pack Saddle Elementary will alsohave a box. Okay, and
then I'd also want to add wewill take food at the Extension Office Atlanta

(05:11):
as well. Oh okay, Soanytime you're in the grocery store and you
can pick up a couple of extracans or another case of something and drop
it off, that's a that's agood thing. Huh. Definitely definitely.
Are there any other items that you'relooking for specifically or is it just pretty
much all that food item food foodstuff? You know, they really they
they didn't give us a very specificitem, but we're just kind of looking

(05:34):
at everything. Okay, all right, and you're gonna where the donation is
going to go to. They're goingto share the harvest that food Bank in
Kingsland. They're only open once aweek, but they try to feed the
community. Okay, So it's stayingin Kingsland, yes, yes, sir.
That that was very important to uswhen we just started talking about this
was really keeping it within the Kingslandcommunity and making it a Kingsland for each

(06:00):
event. That's cool, okay.So box locations again at KA Superior Equipment
Rental at twenty two thirty three, fourteen thirty one in Kingsland, Kingsland Health
Mart on at three oh six twentynine hundred, that's on twenty nine hundred.
Also on twenty nine hundreds, LazyHair and that's a coffee shop right
yeah, yeah okay, and thenthe Buddies right there at the corner at
sixteen twenty one, fourteen thirty one, right there at the corner, and

(06:23):
at pack Saddle Elementary School one fiftyPioneer Lane. So that's a that's a
cool deal. So if you geta chance to drop items off at any
of those locations before the twenty six, but on the twenty six they're going
to be at pack Saddle Elementary duringthe trunk or Treat event right there,
So what else do we need toknow about it? Is that it?
Oh? I think that's what. That's pretty much it on the food drive.

(06:45):
But we'd love to have any ofyour kiddos in four EH. So
give us a call at our atthe Atlanta County Extension Office if you'd liked
enroll. Okay, what is whatis the phone number there? Three two
five two four seven? Okay? And what can a kid expect if you've
never been I mean, because we'vegot a lot of folks from cities that

(07:06):
have moved in. Now, you'venever been involved in four H? What
are you? What are you gonnado there? Well, So, what
people don't realize is four H hasreally kind of exploded in recent years with
urban programming. You don't have toown livestock to participate anymore. We have
food and nutrition programs. We've actuallygot an interest meeting coming up on the

(07:28):
sixteenth. We've got fashion show dealingwith kind of upcycling and those kinds of
things with duds to dazzle consumer decisionmaking. There's really something for everybody.
It's male, female, doesn't matterwhether you're a boy, girl, whatever.
Okay, we take everybody. Yeah, okay, good, all right.
Tamracott again. What's your phone numberin case we need to reach you

(07:48):
three two five two four seven fiveto one five nine okay, and look
for these boxes around Kingsland too todonate to. I hope you have great
success with the Kingsland four h communityfood drive and thank you so much for
coming in today. Well, thankyou for having me
