Speaker 1 (00:00):
K one on three point nine FM. Back in the
morning with Jeff Zach who is with the Marble Falls
VFW Post number one O three seven six. Hi Jeff,
how are you.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm doing quite well. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm fine? Thank you, Thanks for coming in this morning.
How's it going at the VFW Post.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Oh, it's going great.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
What do y'all do over there?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I've probably been in a couple of times over the years,
but it's been a while.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Well, actually, we've got rather full calendar during the week.
Let's see, we're starting off on well, we've got quite
a few televisions going around, so Saturdays and Sundays we've
always got games on football games and NFL college Okay,
see what else? Food throughout the throughout the evenings, and

(00:42):
while we're open, we open at noon every day. And
see what are other things? Taco Tuesday? So two dollars
tacos every Tuesday starting at about four o'clock. And you're
open to the public.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
We are.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
We're open to the public and smoke free.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Oh okay.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
It a lot of people have a stigma about a
VFW post. You walk in there to a big cloud,
but no, we're smoking, open to the public. You do
not have to be a veteran to come in. You
are more everybody is more than welcome to come in.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Tell me what is the what's the purpose behind a
VFW post?

Speaker 2 (01:16):
What do you VFW post? Camaraderie amongst veterans, of course,
but then we also raise funds. We have a really
fun to assist veterans in the local area. So if
there's if there's somebody that needs something, they can come
on by or give us a call and we're happy
to assist.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
What do you see some of the needs that veterans
have that we might not even know about.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well, most of them are things that we know. Unfortunately,
they might not be able to pay a bill or
just need to be put in touch with somebody to
help them out with maybe some veterans benefits and see
and there's a very very very nice capable a local

(02:01):
veteran service officer here in Burnett County, and so we'll
usually turned them on him and it helps them out.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, tell me I was I was never in the military.
So after you come off of your service, I hear
that it's hard sometimes to readjust to regular days.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Well, I guess it all depends on a couple of things.
How long you were in the military. You know, we
we have a lot of veterans that just serve two, three,
four years, and then there are other veterans that serve
a little bit longer. I happen to have served thirty years,

(02:50):
so you know, it gets my pleasure, Yeah, it gets ingrained.
Can also depend on what type of job you were
doing while while you were in the military. You know,
there's a lot of jobs, and most of the jobs
within the military will cross over to a civilian sector job, correct.

(03:11):
I mean, you know, not everybody is in the infantry
or all that dumble stuff. There's people who take care
of air conditioning in medical, which was my field. So
there are always some people can have some some difficulties
with the structure not being there anymore. There's a lot
of support while you're in the military. You get your

(03:34):
three meals a day, and you get you always got
a place to sleep, and you got people to help
you out. Sometimes when you get out and that support
structure is it falls back a little bit. Yeah, you know, you're.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Funny, you said, I'm looking at it from the other
side because and I'll tell a story on myself and
my oldest son when when he got out of high school,
he joined the Navy and he went for nine years,
and he loved that structure to me and turned around
and told me that I didn't give him enough as

(04:06):
he was growing up, and he probably craved that more
than I was able to give him. You know, I did.
I did with what I knew to do, you know, correct,
And he knows that. But he went in and he
stayed in for I believe nine years, and it got
some great world experiences out of the things that I
would have never been able to. I mean, jumped on
a ship and went off to the other side of

(04:27):
the world. I've never done that. Yeah, that's amazing.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
That is one of the great things about about being
in the military. You get a chance to go out
and see all kinds of things. I served over in
Europe three times, three tours, went to many different countries
to help with humanitarian efforts and got to see how

(04:51):
it got to go to Mongolia. Let's see whether other
exotic places I get to go to, Djibouti, Africa, the
Middle East. Saw all kinds of interesting things when you're
running around, So yeah, you know, you didn't first of
all thank you for allowing him to go go into

(05:12):
the military. You know, well, you know some some do,
but you know, some people find all kinds of different things.
I didn't join until I was a little later in
my life. I had my twenty fifth birthday while I
was in basic training. Okay, so you know, I did
college and a few things beforehand, and was all on

(05:32):
my own. And then when I when I got into
the got into the army and and straightened me up
a little bit. So it's different things for different people.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
That's interesting. Well, you're here today to talk specifically, I
think about about an event that's coming up this Friday.
Correct at your post and tell me about it's a
blood drive.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
A blood drive, Yeah, we'll have We'll have a bloodmobile
at the parking lot of the of the post and
you can come on down and please give blood ud.
It's always something that's needed. On our Facebook page, and
I believe you're going to post it on your Facebook
Page's there's a poster about it has a QR code

(06:11):
on there. If you want to hit the QR code,
you can make an appointment. But there's no problem coming
in and walking in. Yeah, and also anybody who donates
blood will get a free Halloween themed T shirt. I
understand it's glow in the dark glowing. That's what I'm
seeing too.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah, should be pretty good for tour around on home.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah. The organization that's doing it is we are Blood
and they bring their bloodmobile around and they do it
and and I've been given to we Are Blood for
years and so it's really handy. It's it's been kind
of on my mind. Uh, it's time to go back,
you know. They send you a little reminder say hey,
you know, you can come back anytime now. And it
was really nice to look on there and see the schedule.

(06:54):
And then I heard about your your blood driving. Dang,
that's on my way home, you know. I mean it's
right there, it's right down the street here. So so again,
you can go on to the to the Facebook page
of the VFW post. Is that just how do you
find it on Facebook, Facebook dot com slash VFW post?
It's probably what did I do with my piece of
paper here? I'm not one o three seven you know?

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yes, yeah, just do a search for VFW Marble Falls
VFW or one zero three seven six, okay, and our
Facebook page will pop up, okay, and.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
There'll be an appointment thing you can choose at a
time of day and they make it really easy to
Once you get in their system, boom, you just click
a couple of buttons and you're in and they give
you cookies afterwards. They I'm looking forward to some nutter butters.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
That course of course.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
All right, what else can we do for the VFW post, Well.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Just come on down and you know we were talking
earlier about it being open to the public and so
people coming in and patronizing our our organization helps to
fill our relief fund. Okay, but earlier, so you know
it's funds for local veterans that are in need. And

(08:05):
that's the main thing. It's assist assists us. We love
to have people down take a look. Also, Veterans Day
is coming up so next month November eleventh, on the eighth, ninth,
and tenth, so Saturday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday before we
will be around in at various areas throughout Marble Falls

(08:28):
with our poppies, okay, so please stop by and see
us for a poppy, and then a donation is greatly appreciated. Also,
that's one of our good fundraiser. Correct, that's right. That's
one of our main fundraisers to get for our relief funds.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Good and keeping out on their bright shiny sign out
front because it tells you what's coming up during the
week and and what's going on, whether it's live music
or what'd you say, right, Taco Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Taco Tuesday? Correct, Yeah, Friday night karaoke. I forgot to
do that. But every Friday night we have karaoke, so
that's always a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Well, good, all right, Jeff Zach he's with Marble Falls
VFW Post number one O three seven six Again. They're
having a blood drive this Friday, and you can you
can go online to their Facebook page and find that
and get you an appointment time and fill up that
that bloodmobile van. It's really easy. It's very comfortable. They
make it. They make it very comfortable and easy to do,

(09:21):
so I encourage everybody to do that.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Anything else, No, thank you for having me here.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Thank you, thank you for your service once again, and
thank you pleuch you're doing for the for the veterans
in the community and you're welcome back anytime. Thank you.
