Speaker 1 (00:00):
K what a three point nine FM. It's Mack in
the morning. Darby Haverick is in the studio. Was hi, Darby,
how are you man?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good to see this morning? Mine?
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Well, it's good to see you. I can't believe it
was it last week, maybe a week before. This was
the first time I've ever met you. And you walked
in here like everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Do you know? Yeah, when you raise two good kids
through this community and get get involved with the good
organizations like churches in this Marble Falls area. Agricultural Club,
you know people, I guess see you. I guess you
know you. Well, it's good to have you in.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
So that's why you're here the Agricultural Club fall fundraisers.
First of all, tell me about the Agricultural Club. What
is it, Where is it located, what do you do
all that stuff?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
All right? Well, based here in Burnet County, and anybody,
any kid from fifth grade up to high school eligible
do FFA or four h okay members here in Burnet County.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Okay, So and you can join? And what what does
a kid get out of being a member of the
Agricultural Club.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Each year, the Berdy County has their Junior Livestock show
in January. The kids that sell their projects, it's a
premium cell. So basically all the livestock kids that show
a project are able to sell quote unquote sell their
project for premium money, basically like scholarship money. The sale
is for the livestock portion. All the kids that show
(01:23):
up with the project are able to sell their animals
and a premium cell. They retain the animals, but it's
a like a scholarship, and then they also have the
ag mechanics portion as well that the kids that they
get judged on their projects that they show up with
and then they make the premium sell there as well.
And that premium cell. Like I said, it's more like
(01:44):
a scholarship. And we're not buying. Our club does not
buy the projects. We're not a buyer's club. We just
add on money.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
That's great.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Add on money to our kids that are part of
our association.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
That's neat, and they get to take advantage of having
that extra money in school or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
They their next project, next next project, next year, and
you know, cover cover costs that they might have heard,
you know, through the year. But hopefully a lot of
most of the kids probably are just sticking the sock
and burying it and having it for having for college,
just not getting at the sheep for these days.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
You know, I tell you the I didn't really realize
until I guess a couple of years ago. You're talking
about like a mechanical project something like that. That's correct,
And these kids were they weren't building a ladder. They
were building like a cooler, a walk in cooler.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Oh yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
It's just amazing thing. And all the kids they're coming.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Up with, they come with from good ideas for sure.
And that's up my son. We did an ag mechanics
project in the last three years as well, and last
year we're fortunate to haul it to San Antone and
Si Angelo and Hall and show it and show up
those big, big shows as well.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
So yeah, what was the project? Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
He built a material rack really yeah, out of reclaimed
galvanized material guard rail material. Well that's the stuff that
was destined for a scrap yard, and built a material
racked it way about thirty six hundred pounds.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
God, yeah, you needed trailer.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
You need to be all that thing around had had
truck trailer hauling around.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yesterdir Well, tell me about this. This fundraiser that y'all
have coming up our fall.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Our fall fund raisers are second biggest fundraisers that we have.
Our first is the as the Marbileholes Rodeo that we
we run the concession stand every day. So that that's
that's a great, great one we have over here. And
then you know this one's h a you know fried
fish dinner. We have uh selling tickets for chances at
(03:36):
a commoda side by side. Purchased it through e Wald Kambota.
Steve Rodgers up there at the Wald gave us, gave
us a good deal on a good deal, a good
deal helped us out there. And then a second prize
is on that on that drawing is for a sixty
foot utility trader from O'Connor Trader Sales and O'Connor family.
They've been great to us through to lots of different
(03:56):
organizations through the years here at Morbile Fall.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
So that's really neat. How when when companies and organizations
and actually you know, single people come along behind you
and oh support the kids and everything.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Oh you darn right. And I think we give money
away at the livestock show, but we also give seniors scholarships.
So last year we gave away five one thousand dollars
scholarships to local seniors. I think there were three seniors
from Marble Falls and two from Faith. That's part of organization.
So in tune last year we give away about thirty.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Grand Wow, that's this ain't no small.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
No, and it's it's it's it's I think we're brought
about forty kids and thirty families that support the that
are members of the of the of the club.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yeah, that's neat. So your event is happening on the
twenty six, that's Saturday night, Lakeside Pavilion, Marble Falls are
gonna have a whole mess of fish and.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Fried fish, all the fictions. It will be live and
solid auctions, lots of different games and things that are
being played to help support, you know, and if you're
not able to have a ticket for the chance of
the side beside or the or the trailer for the
for the you know, the grand prize drawings that we're having, uh,
you know, there's a lot of a lot of other
(05:08):
ways to to help support. That's and then you could
still come in and uh, you know, twenty dollars at
the door for for adults, five dollars for kids. You know,
your fish dinner, for your fish dinner, and uh man,
this would be my third third year of attending and
the first time they've they've stuck me behind a microphone
to talk about it. So I know what's got I
(05:29):
know what's going on, but I'm not on the board.
If that makes any cases, I'm I'm not.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Would you do miss a meeting or something?
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I no, no, actually showed up and and that's even worse.
I showed up and got voluntil you know.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Well, we're glad you're here, and this event is a
it's a great event for you know, helping raise money
for the for the Agricultural Club, and y'all turn that
money around and it's benefits our kids.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
So you dang right. Only the only nicol we hold
on to through after after scholar after you know, scholarships
and in the stock show. We keep enough seed money
in our pocket swing buy supplies to to uh to
stock the concession stand in July, and you know it,
if we don't hold on, that's that's all we hold
on too.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
So that's good. Well we appreciate you being here for that.
Once again, Marble Falls Area Agricultural Club fall fundraiser on Saturday,
the twenty sixth, Lakeside Pavilion, six pm, fried fish dinner
and all the fix ins of live auction, silent auction, raffles,
games and a drawing for that that cabota to what
is it? What I what I call it? Side by
side I do or four by four it's a side
(06:32):
by side TV and a trailer from a trailer trailers too.
So yeah, where can we go for information? Is their
website or anything?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
We have our Facebook page and hopefully well can we
throw a link on the on the else page so
and that could be that'd be good. So you can
you can hit us up at that Marble Falls Area
Agricultural Club Facebook page and send us a message. I
think we have we have some tickets left for the
for the for the for the big drawing, but like
I said, show up with twenty, show up with the
