Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Marble Falls Mustangs hit the road again this week
to take on the Stevenville yellow Jackets play at Tarlton
State University, and we're talking about Marble Falls head coach
Kerrie Tireman. Good morning, coach. How you doing good?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Ben?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
How are you doing all right? So let's talk about
the Burnett game. It was a tough one forty three
to seven. Your final thoughts on that game, Coach.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
I mean, that's that's a good football team. Coach Pier
and his coaches did a great job, you know, game
playing against us. You know, we had a couple of
kids get banged up that interiorly in the lines that
that hurt us. But I think, you know, that's a
really good football team. And we made some key critical
errors early in the first quarter, just not being able
to set edges and not being able to tackle effectively,
you know, running the ball, we had some miss blocks

(00:41):
that led to some you know, third downs and having
to go for it in third and six and not
getting it. So, you know, when you face a good team,
you got it, got to keep possession away from them.
They did a great job running the ball, and I,
like I said, applaud them, but I was proud of
our kids' effort. I think we were watching film. We're
in position to make plays, just quite didn't didn't quite
finish them.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I were able to get a touchdown on the board.
So how much confidence does that give you et least
be able to get some points?

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Oh well, I mean absolutely anytime you can move the
ball against good defense, you know, I think that, uh,
it showed us that we can. Uh, you know, consistency
is the key is being able to to consistently drive
the ball and make decisions. And I think early in
that early in the first half, you know, going down
twenty to nothing, going in at half, you're trying to
make some you know, we need to throw the ball,
but protection's kind of been an issue, and so we

(01:29):
need to be able to run the ball to kind
of set that up. And so it's it's the balance
of being able to do both. Is how do we
get the ball on the perimeter out to our playmakers,
How do we drive the ball down the field or
at least attempt to create some explosive plays because you've
got to keep them backed up, especially when they fit.
The safeties are fitting the run defense. So I you know,
I said, I think that we saw some good things
in second half.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Kids.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Of course, it keep fighting, but at some point, you know,
we got to find that little that little edge to
break the rock and be able to push it over
the edge and get the win for Burnt.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Offensively, I was impressed how how many guys touched the
ball for them. Then a lot of guys touch the
rock and that ball game.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Yeah, I mean, obviously do they do a good job offensively.
They have a bunch of skilled players, really talented skilled players.
Quarterback does a great job editioning around, have a good
running game, good strong offensive line, and I think keeping
everybody you know from from eyeing one player helps, especially
when you the longer you get into the season, you know,
playing with Stevenville's lamp passes in brown woods, so they
can't keep on one one guy and take them away.

(02:26):
So I thought they did a good job of mixing
up their count and who they got the ball to.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
So what's the mood of the team been like after
a game like that and then going to Stephnville, what's
their mood like ben this tie? I mean, they're good.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I mean I said, we're a little banged up, but
I think the reality is is you know, you measure
a team by whether or not they show up, and
you know we're a team that you know, we keep
showing up, and up until the Friday night game, I
felt like, you know, we had improved every week. I
really could watch film and see some area of growth
both sides of the ball. Friday night saw a little
bit of a step back, and that happens, and you
know when you're building a program, and you know, it

(02:59):
was something we to teach from this morning really just
focused on. You know, what we said was the inches,
you know, the the inch of a hand on cloth
versus a chest on cloth and making the tackle for
a fourth down stop or a third down stop. You know,
the inch on a hand on a ball versus a catch,
an inch on a you know ball, running the ball
for a first down or getting that first down. Uh

(03:19):
So it was good teaching, you know, letting the kids
see that. You know, you're you're real close. But like
I said, you know, our our goal is to keep
pounding that rock till it breaks. And right now, I
mean it's not breaking yet, but we're gonna get there.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Now, you're taking on a program with a Steve tradition
the Stephnville Yellow Jackets. So what do you expect from
Stephenville this week?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Just a good football game, you know when you when
you play good football teams. You know, our theme of
the week that we have every week this week is
iron Sharpin's iron. You know, if we want to be better,
we got to go against better people. So they're gonna
make us better if we let them. You know, we've
got to show up and play. You know, we're we're
going to be you know, trying to create ways to
to same thing, differentiate where the ball goes, try not
to stand still and let you know, let them tee

(03:59):
off on us. Defensively, we're gonna try to stop the run,
you know, keep them from having some explosive plays. In secondary,
they've got really good receivers in a real but great back,
and then a really strong offensive line and a quarterback
does a real good job taking the ball and distributing
it out to the playmakers. So we're gonna try and
mix up some looks coverage wise and then front wise,
and other than that, we're going to be excited to
get to play in the college stadium and take a

(04:20):
good trip for another chance that the district win. So
we're gonna go toe up and see how we fare up.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Al Stevenville. They're undefeated in Texas. They're only loss coming
to a Louisiana team out of Rusting.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Right, Yeah, rust and Louisiana. They played them in Longview
and and and physical, physical game. Uh you know, Rusting
basically lined up and ran the ball right at him.
And that's a it's a it's a good way for
your team to get ready for playoffs. I mean, you're
playing a state championship level Rusting team. So you know,
kudos to to h. Sterling for going and finding a
game because they only could find nine. So he went
out and went out state and said, we're gonna play

(04:51):
someone that's gonna make us better. And I think, you know,
long term, in the in the end of November and December,
they're gonna be able to see that pop up.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
All right, coach, thank you so much and good luck
this week. Thanks Ben,
