Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kirk no Acre is in the studio and to tell
you to be totally transparent with you. We've been sitting
here for twenty minutes talking about airplanes. Hi, Kirk, how
are you?
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, sir.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
It's good to.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Have you in.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Kirk is now the master who dah over there at
the Alanto Airport. Now, I don't know what your official
title is.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Tell me, well, I think your title that you just
gave me is a luck rule. I'm the airport manager
that Atlanto Municipal Airport.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Okay, and Kurt's been with the Commemorative Air Force and
he's been just You're just known around here. I mean
you're around Lake FESTI around all these events. But now
you're you're a director at the airport in Lanto and
you're going to put on one heck of an air
show here.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
We really are. I think one of the reasons maybe
I would have been brought into Lano is just because
I have that pedigree and experience of putting on air shows.
So Lanto's never experienced anything like this. Zama and I
am so excited that we're going to bring an air show.
And really we were talking earlier, but yeah, I mean
(00:59):
it's an air show with a lot of different stuff
to it.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
That's neat, so you don't have to just be a
lover of airplanes.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
You don't. I mean, so we're The show is called Wings,
Wheels and Wine. It takes place on November ninth, which
is a Saturday, so it's just a week from this
Saturday kind of and you know, the wings are self explanatory,
the wheels all that self explanatory. We're gonna have a
really large car show component of the air show, a
local car club called Lake Area Rods in classic. We're
(01:26):
expecting somewhere around one hundred and twenty five to one
hundred and fifty cars there at the atport. Cool car
but then you know, I know, everybody's not always a
gear head or you know, is really into horsepower. So
we have a wine component. It's so cool. What's happening
in Atlanto. Atlanto's become this destination town, right, I mean,
the square is all these boutiques and it's become really
(01:50):
kind of trendy in some ways, and I love that
for the economy in Lanto. But again, I wanted to
be able to draw some of those people who wouldn't
go to an air show or a car show. So
we're gonna have the wine component, which is sponsored by
Seven Creeks Vineyard, which is just outside of Burnett.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Okay, well that's that's a cool component that you bringing
in there. That's that's totally different. I mean, you've got
all these airplanes around, you're gonna have classic cars, You're
gonna have fun stuff for really the whole family to
look at. Now it's funny you think, well, maybe this
part of the family is not into airplanes. This part is.
I remember taking my wife and daughter driving past the
(02:29):
Blue Bonnet air Show one time and they were like, wait,
what what Wait this is cool, hold on now, And
we ended up getting out, you know, and watching the
airplanes for a while. So you'd be amazed at how
fun an air show really is.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You're right, and that's why I wanted to bring in
so much stuff that's just not airplanes. You know. For kids,
we have a kid zone, which is we're gonna have
several bouncy houses there. But another thing that's really cool
that we're gonna have is a little red engine train,
which is similar to a steam locomotive that's going to
(03:02):
drive kids around the ramp so you know, you're in
this really cool train and you're being driven around a
bunch of really cool airplanes, airplanes that would go back
to the very early nineteen hundreds to airplanes that were
just manufactured in the last several years. So we got
all kinds of cool stuff. But you know, also, you know,
we have a huge pulling tractor that's going to be
(03:25):
there in its audi velkid. Oh yeah, and it's gigantic.
It's got three engines on there. I think it's a
total of six thousand horsepower. It is absolutely beautiful, and
it's been humbling to me as an airplane guy to
know that this non airplane entity parked on the ramp,
you know, may very well be more popular than some
(03:45):
of the aircraft that we have in a ramp. But
I'm so excited to have that there. I'm expecting that
we haven't finalized it yet, but I think we may
very well have a boat from the Southern Drag Boat
Racing Association SDBA. That's the organization here that races on
on Lake Marble Falls for Lake Face, but I wanted
to have those on the ramp. I have a really
cool old World War Two engine that hadn't run in
(04:08):
seventy something years, and the gentleman got it running. He
hasn't mounted on his trailer like a sixteen foot trailer.
It's the engine, it's the prop, and he's going to
fire that up periodically through the shows so people can
get really kind of a close look at what that engine.
Those old radio I think you know that just have
that really deep per to him. Oh it's a beautiful sound.
(04:30):
I mean, you and I are geeking out right now.
I don't know if everybody has an appreciation, but you know, look,
I even have things like we have wonder Woman of
San Antonio who's going to walk around and one she
looks amazing. She has this unbelievable, you know, outfit that
she wears for it, and I just she's probably going
(04:52):
to have her picture captured just as many times as
some of the airplanes that we'll have on the ramp. Yeah,
I'm hoping. I'm thinking maybe, Well, if anybody'sailiar with the
Blue Bonnet Air Show, we've had the fiber First legion there,
which is the Star Wars group, which is not just
like a Halloween Star Wars group. I mean, these people
are crazy serious about it. I'm expecting that it's possible.
(05:12):
What I have them there, But you know, this is
Veterans Day weekend that the air show is rolling into
and Lano has a couple soldiers that were killed in
action in combat, and we have a really special ceremony
planned to honor those soldiers there in the local community,
right just on the other side of the fence line
there at the airport. So I really we got just
(05:36):
so much stuff going on. I think it's really going
to be cool.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
So the thing about an air show is that, and
you were talking about this earlier, is that, Yeah, you've
got people you can call it, so bring your airplane,
blah blah blah, do this, do that. But then you've
got the whole government, Federal Aviation Administration part of that
that you have to deal with. What is that?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Like, Oh my goodness, it's it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I mean, because you mentioned they have to carve out
airspace for you.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, so real quick, we'll do a class here. And
an air boss is essentially the person that controls all
aircraft movement at an air show, okay, right, And everybody
generally has a familiarization that air traffic control across the
world controls how airplanes move and flight plans, and they
control what altitudes and speeds and blah blah blah blah.
(06:25):
Well for an air show, obviously, we're doing a lot
of crazy stuff in the air. And to be able
to put on an air show, you have something called
waverd Airspace, and that is, like you said, it's a
carve out, a temporary carve out of air traffic control
above that airport property. And there's a thing called a box,
(06:46):
which is the aerobatics box. And there's certain standards that
have to be met. Well, you have to get that
through the Federal Aviation Administration, and it is just such
an incredibly complex process. One if the FAA doesn't do it,
you don't have an airshell. Sure, And the FAA, you know,
when they ask that they want something, they may even say, look,
(07:08):
it's not required by eighty nine hundred, which is a
term for the center rules the aviation Federal Aviation Administration uses.
But you know they'll then precede that statement by saying,
but it would be nice if you did this. Well,
you know what the heck, you know what I mean,
You really don't have a choice. Okay, I'm going to
(07:29):
go ahead and do it. But it really is a
different level than maybe some of the other events that
I've been part of and really been fortunate to work
here in the community on behalf of the Chamber of
Commerce and nonprofits here, there's this whole federal regulatory side
of the House that is really intense. It's intense for
a reason because it's all about safe safety, sure. And
(07:51):
the good news is is that our priorities when it
comes to safety are no less than the FAA's products. Good.
That's good.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
I can imagine being a you know, like a student
pilot or something. Well, I'm gonna do my quote cross
country training for today and I'm gonna fly from I
don't know where to Waco to Lanto to Stephenville and back. Uh.
I ain't gonna happen that. You're not gonna land in
Atlanto that.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Day, are you? No, You're not. We're gonna have what
there's notice in place. Qf R is in place. We
are accepting transient aircraft, which you are. So if somebody,
you know, College Station says hey, I want to fly
out to Lano to see the air show, we have
a transient parking area for people. Real quick and I
go through the the some of the accent. He yeah,
all right. So we're gonna have an Italian S two
(08:37):
to eleven Marquette Jet Trainer, which is really cool. They're
out of Denton. We're gonna have a modified Pitt's Fury
that is out of Long Bill. That's a plane yes,
and speed demon. This dude is Steve Covington and he
is crazy up in the air. And I say crazy
in a good way. He's so exciting, really high energy act.
(08:58):
And then we have this Quick Eagle and we had
them in the studio here last year, but that's Leland
Kratch out to Dallas and he's a beautiful, very elegant
aerobatics act. We have a T six Texan that's going
to be aerobatics, a No. Two Skymaster Falcon Flight RV team.
Often people here in Central Texas are kind of fortunate
(09:18):
enough to look up in the sky see a bunch
of RBS flying in formation. Well, we're going to have
their seven ship team here. I'm really excited about that.
Then we have a breakaway RB eight act, a Chinese
Nanchang CJ six, a Chinese airplane. This gentleman owns this airplane.
He's a member of the highlanda like squadron and he
flies for one of the commercial airlines. He's based overseas
(09:41):
and he's coming back just to perform in the show.
I think that is so cool. Yeah, I know you're
familiar with Jeff Copseeta as Living History. Jeff's out of Burnett.
We're going to have Company B there doing weapons demonstrations.
Of course, we were going to have the big flamethrower,
which is always a a crowd favorite. We got a
Buker one thirty one youngmen two tac Eero super cubs
(10:04):
that are going to do a spot landing competition on
the turf runway, so they're gonna you know, whoever can
get to the closest spot is going to win. You know,
this competition that's really neat. We're gonna have rides for
people in our forty four helicopter with Is Robinson. Yeah
once s rides. So if people want to experience aviation
(10:25):
for the first time or there, you know, they see
it and it's hard not to be part of it.
We have those options for them excellent. And then you
know the cars, the pulling tractors, We're going to have
that Old Engine, Wonder Woman, Star Wars All Airborne Division
display part of the honoring for Veterans Day weekend. Top
fuel Boat, seven Creeks, Vineyard Kids, Bounty Houses to a
(10:47):
little Red Train. We have a DJ. We have a
live break broadcast that will take place there. Ben right
here is going to help with the announcing of the
air show. Cool. We're gonna have the old military vehicles.
The B twenty five bomber Double Dog is going to
be up on the ramp and available for people to see.
I'm expecting to see forty seven, not the Highland Lakes
(11:08):
Sea forty seven. This is a different one, but it's
you know, it's huge, and these airplanes are really going
to look, you know, gargantuan on the Lano Municipal ramp.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Oh that's cool, and I love We drove back and
forth to Senseeb all the time and I'm always checking
out your ramp.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
To see what's what's going on here today? Is there? Twin?
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Is there serious?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
You know?
Speaker 1 (11:27):
What is that? What do you got out there? So
this is I'll win where tell us how to get
tickets all that stuff?
Speaker 2 (11:31):
All right? Yeah, So it's going to be Saturday, this
upcoming Saturday, November ninth, at the Lano Municipal Airport. If
you come in off twenty nine is just north of
the city line about one mile on the right hand side.
As if you're going to San Saba, that's the location
to get tickets. They're sold on the event bright. Tickets
(11:52):
are very inexpensive and I did that purposely. Won this
is the introductory show, but ten ten dollars in advance
if you get tickets line e ventpright and then fifteen
dollars at the door. So still when it comes to
market pricing for air shows throughout the state of Texas,
what's coming in at a really cheap inexpensive cost for
(12:13):
a full day? So if you just look up wings,
Wheels and wine on event right. But of course we
put all of our information there at the Lano Municipal
Airport air show related and not on Facebook. And if
you were just to look up Lano Municipal Airport ka QO,
which is our FAA designator, you'll find our Facebook page.
We have a lot going on in there.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Okay, good Kirk Noacre, director of the Atlanto Municipal Airport.
Big air show coming up and I men, we're looking
forward to it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
It is going to be fun. I look forward to
seeing people there.
