Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, if you like to run, we got something you
might want to know about. It's called the Fun Run
Bunch Fundraiser twenty twenty four. Having the studio this morning,
Tyler Hyman from the Marble Falls Athletic Club and then
Ben Henderson from the Highland Lakes Crisis Network. Gentlemen, how
are you this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Doing great?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Good, great, good, being great?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Glad to be absolutely well good.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Well, we'll talk about the Fun Run here in just
a minute. Ben, tell us what's going on at the
Crisis Network where y'all having any crises right now? Are
you kind of skimming along right now? Just getting ready
for the next.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
One, always getting ready for the next one. We've been
collecting items for the North Carolina flood hurle have you.
We're going to be sending out a trailer later later
this week. Other than that, we're just kind of doing
our normal stuff. We just had the clay shoot.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Oh yeah, that went really well.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Actually, yeah, raised a lot of money, had a lot
of teams, everybody had a great time.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Good. Yeah. I never think about when you said you
were raising money for the hurricane people. I never think
about we can do that. We can help you easily
just by sitting here in our own hometown. Yes, donating
to the Crisis Network or bringing y'all what you need.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah, yeah, you can go on our website and you
can there's just the giving tab and you can specify
funds to go straight to the hurricane relief. Or we've
been collecting items to send in the trailer and you
can drop those off back the warehouse.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Physical staff, physical items.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah, it's getting cold up there from what we hear,
so we're blankets and jackets is kind of a big need.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Oh that's that's terrible, but it's really great the chiller
y'all doing that. And I would imagine, I hope anyway
that there are groups all over the United State.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
That's our understanding.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, totally, you know, that's that's really a cool deal. Well, okay,
so Tyler, you've got a fun Run coming up, and
it sounds like this is a group of folks that
runs together often anyway, the Fun Run Bunch, Is that right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Absolutely, So we started this about two and a half
years ago. You know, the club is built on family
and community, and so a couple of years ago we
decided to start participating in these different five k's, you know,
supporting local charities, and about a year ago we decided
we wanted to do our own, but we couldn't quite
settle on a cause, and so we decided to kind
(02:10):
of ask around and see, you know what everybody thought.
We want to stay local, yah, and the name that
kept coming up was, you know, the crisis Networking. So
we decided that that would be, you know, the best
thing to do, you know, keep things local here and
then just help out what we can because a lot
of what y'all do, y'all are unsung heroes, and so
we wanted to bring attention to, you know, everything that
(02:31):
y'all do.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
So, yeah, we appreciate that. I know it's coming up
on the twenty sixth on Saturday morning. It says costumes encouraged.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So we didn't want to say required, but it is
highly in quotations, highly you know, encouraged courage. It is
only a one point three mile quote unquote stroll. We
didn't want to say run or walk because you know
a lot of times people see three point one mile
run kind of intimidating. So we decided to do something
a little bit different. So it's basically just going to
(03:01):
be one point three miles and then instead of getting
metals and ribbons, we're gonna blue bonnet pies as the prizes.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yep, so you never hear about that that.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
Exactly, you know, encourage a healthy lifestyle and the handout pies.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
And yeah, we'll have cigarettes down. That's that's really funny,
that's cute. That's the way you've done that. And I
think to see a group of folks in Halloween costumes
strolling down the street at any time before Halloween is
going to be interesting anyway.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Well, that's good. How do people get involved? Well, tell
us about the Athletic Club. What's what's going on there?
What are you all up to these days?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
So the Athletic Club a couple of years ago got
bought back over by the Ortizes. They've always owned the building,
but they wanted to get back into, you know, the
club life and get everybody kind of involved again as
the community goes. And so we've just been doing a
lot of improvements and trying to just help as many
different organizations as we can. We've been sponsors for other
(03:57):
five k's recently, but wanted to put on our owns.
So we just basically wanted to do something fun around
the holidays. You know a lot of people kind of
forget that Halloween is a thing and they go straight
to Christmas, and so we wanted to do something a
little bit different this year and kind of just see
how things work. So we had this idea and we
kind of just hit the ground running with it, and
(04:17):
we had a We had quite a few people from
our club that wanted to sponsor it, and so we
reached out. We had people like Bluebonnet obviously first, you know,
out of Bank, not only Freeman, their Dentistry, a bunch
of others. But again, it was just kind of a
cool idea, and then the community kind of rallied behind it,
(04:38):
and you know, we decided to take this as far
as we could. And so one hundred percent of everything
that we get is going straight to them.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
So that's good, don't know, ex Crisis Network, that's good.
What would you say to someone like my wife and
I are that couple that joined at the gym years
ago and it's when we lived in Austin. We had
to move over there for ten years for work, but
so don't blame us, but into the gym and then
never went. So what would you say to that couple
that walks in, like the guy that's mad that he
didn't have valet parking going into the front door. You know.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
So one of the you see it a lot more
than what you think you do. So one of the
things that we really try is we really focus on
building a personal relationship with everybody that walks through the doorkay.
You know, Unlike you know, we're we're family owned. So
it's not here comes number, you know, one twenty five,
it's you know, here comes whatever your name is. Try
and get to know a little bit about them, because again,
(05:28):
it is all about community and family here. So if
we try and keep up with everybody, and you know,
we see that if people aren't coming in like they do,
we try and reach out to them and see what
we can do to be helpful and to get them
back in, because you only get one body. And so
you know, with everything that we put in our body
and the working from home and everything like that, we
do encourage people to just come in. And again it's
(05:50):
not just a it's not just a place to work out.
It is a sense of community. We have people that
come in and bring coffee and they'll sit on the
bikes for hour and a half and talk about sports
or you know, whatever else is going on. You know,
it's football season. People are getting heated about.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
The Cowboys, of course, don't we always exactly? Okay? Good,
And if you want more information about the Marble Falls
Athletic Club, how do you get that?
Speaker 3 (06:11):
We have everything on the website. But as far as
the run goes, if you just want to walk in,
the sign up takes like thirty seconds, okay, So we
encourage everybody. We're trying to get as many people. Obviously
it's for a great cause. Kids are free with encouraged
donations kind of things. So we're expecting to have a
pretty good turnout so far, and we again we still
(06:32):
have like a week and a half. So if that's
something you all are interested in, please stop buy. You know,
we'll be glad to talk about it and just help
however we can.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
So good good. And the Athletic Club is at twenty
three twelve Highway to eighty one at Marble Falls, and
I think pretty much everybody knows where it is. And
the event again is October twenty sixth nine am one
point five mile walk and run. Prizes for best costumes
and the prizes are hilarious. They're bluebonnet pies. That's funny.
It's great, Ben. What can we do for the Crisis Network?
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Well, right now, one of our biggest needs is our
commissary is almost empty, and that's where we have hygiene
items and cleaning items for really anyone that needs it
and comes up to our office. It's getting low. So
we're going to put up an Amazon link later this
week just to kind of make it easier with bulk
items on there that are better priced. You can, I mean,
(07:23):
we'll take anything HIV Dollar store. Yeah, it doesn't matter,
don't have to be a good brand or main brand
or anything like that. But yeah, that's one of our
biggest needs. In then, dental professionals for our dental clinic.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Oh, we're really.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
There's the need is extravagant. We have like over two
indred people on our waiting list, right.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
So, and that that happens every Friday, every other Friday,
every other Friday.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Okay, and so we need we need dentist and hygienis
that's our biggest need.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
Okay, we do have a lot of HLCN dot Love
is your website, correct.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
That's our email, Like Highlandktriss Network dot com dot com.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Okay, good, all right, well Tyler Hyman and Ben Henderson.
Tyler's from the Marble Falls Athletic Club and in from
the Highlights Crisis Network. Thank you all for coming in.
Thanks this is sound a fun event and I hope
you get lots of people in costumes walking down the street.
Went in pies, Yes, it's a great deal. Thank you
all for coming in.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
