Speaker 1 (00:00):
K one three point nine FM. It's Mack in the
Morning and I have a couple of guests in the
studio this morning. I have Genie Rolf and Carolyn Ragsdill there.
They're here because of the Highland Lakes Crisis Network is
going to put on a movie. It's a real special thing.
It's called Sound of Hope and it's a free movie
that you. First of all, welcome, ladies. How are you
all today?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Great?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Great, Thank you for having us.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
You're welcome. It's good to have you in the studio.
And this is a this is a sweet deal. We
were talking before we went on the air and I said, well,
this is something that you're not trying to raise any money,
and it's like, no, the Highlights Crisis Network is just
trying to raise awareness. I guess this is what you're
trying to tell me about this movie or this event.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
The movie is going to be showing on the twentieth
of October at two o'clock at our theater right here
in Marble Falls Energy and it is a heartwarming story.
It is a true story of twenty two families from
a small church in East Texas. They adopted seventy of
the most hard to place children from the child welfare system.
(01:05):
Gave them love, gave them a home, and we're just
hoping to motivate our community to consider fostering.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Is this something that the church did as a whole
They just decided, Okay, we're going to do this.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
The minister stepped forward and said, our family will do
this and.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Followed that's really neat. That's Carolyn. You're the president of
the Burnett County Child Welfare Board. Tell me about about
getting kids adopted or foster. Is that a hard thing
or are people waiting in line to do that?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Do you no?
Speaker 1 (01:42):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah. We have currently in Burnett County forty five foster cases.
That means multiple children in each case, but we do
not have enough foster homes. So when a child is
removed and cannot be placed with a relative, then they
look for a foster home in the area, or if
there's not enough, then they're placed in another town. So
(02:05):
not only does the child lose their family, but then
they lose their school, their friends, their town, everything that's
familiar to them. So we're hoping to motivate people to
come forward and foster more in our area.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Yeah, is it hard? To become a foster parent or
I mean, is it a rigorous thing that you have
to go through or is it easier than you think?
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Totally easier maybe than you think. Yeah, I mean there
are you certainly have to go to classes to learn
how to deal with the trauma, has it been through,
and what to expect, But there is a lot of
support along the way and throughout the whole process. Even
when the kids are placed in your home, You're never
on your own. There's a lot of help out there.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
That's that's good to know. I never will forget the
words someone told me years ago about about I think
they were a member of Costs the Court Advocates Child Advocates, right,
And I said, I said, it must be really hard
to hear what the kids have gone through. I mean,
it must be hard on you to do that. And
(03:10):
it's their answer astounded me. It was like, it's hard
to imagine not doing it once you once you get
into it, because it's something that is such a need
in the in the area and with that group, and
you can really help help kids, you know, stay kind
of in a stable family situation. Huh, absolutely, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
Of course.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
The first priority is to find a relative, okay, because
that still keeps their family connection. But that's not always possible.
So then we need a horse tram.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Okay, Well that's that's really neat. So tell me about this.
This movie is a special movie that got filmed, and
tell me about that.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
I haven't seen the movie yet because I'm waiting to
see it on the big screen. But I did watch
the trailer last night and it brought tears.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
To my eye, just the trailer.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Seventeen minute trailer. It was so it is so true
to life. It is an accurate depiction of what children
go through and the love that they need from families.
And I know it's true because before I retired, I
worked in the CPS system and the movie just is
a very realistic portrayal of what children go through and
(04:20):
how people can help just by reaching out and saying yes,
I will do this.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
It's got to be hard. I mean, I was a
product of a divorced family, but I never had any need.
My family was always together. I could go from one
parent to the other. It was never an issue, never
in But this has got to be hard on kids too,
I mean, because they're just yanked out. It seems like
when a parent gets what incarcerated or can't take care
(04:48):
of them, whatever it may be. Huh yeah, yeah, well,
well so this event is the twentieth Sunday the twentieth
at two pm at Synergy Marvel Fall. And you said
there's only like one hundred seats in the theater.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
There are one hundred seats. That's why we need people
to register and they can go to the Holland Lakes
Crossis Network website and sign up to attend this movie
for free.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Oh, it's free, and they're not trying to get anything
out of you. They would just want to spread awareness
of what's needed in our community. And if you ever
thought about fostering, or maybe you're already a foster parent
or you know an adoptive parent, and you want to
know more about this, this is the thing to do.
It's two pm on the twentieth. Register at HLCN dot love.
(05:35):
That's the Highland Links Crisis Network's website. And y'all say
it's right there on the front page. Can't miss it.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Huh, absolutely, it cannot be missed.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
All right. It's called Sound of Hope is the name
of the movie. And this is a really good let's
fill up this theater. Okay again, it's the twentieth at
two pm. Register at HLCN dot love. Did we miss anything.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
There will be people to answer any questions after or
to point you in the direction to get more information.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Next next steps, huh, okay, all right. Good Genie Rolf
and Carolyn Ragsdale, thank you so much for doing this
for the community. It's a sweet thing you're doing and man,
I hope you get a whole bunch of people in there,
so thank you.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Thanks for having us, thank you, thank you for your support.
