Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning, Kerrent County. This is the seventeen News at
Sunrise podcast, Your News on your Schedule, presented by Rodriguez
and Associates.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Getting this morning with our seventeen crime Watch. An investigation
is underway after a shooting in northeast Bakersfield left eighteen debt.
It happened on Meadow Vista Court off Panama Drive just
before one o'clock yesterday morning. Bakersfield Police say officers responded
to reports of a shooting found an eighteen year old
man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. First responders attempted life

(00:38):
saving measures, but the man succumb to his injuries at
the scene. Investigators say they have located surveillance video of
a possible suspect vehicle, but police have not released any
further suspect information. Anyone with information is urged to call
BPD at three two seven seven one one one and pedestrians.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
He is the signature issue here at seventeen News. A
man is dead after a vehicle struck him in Oildale.
It happened on Airport Drive, just north of State Road
around twelve thirty Saturday morning. Bakersfield Police say a driver
was northbound approaching State Road under the Golden State Highway
overpass when the pedestrian ran across the roadway. The driver
hit the pedestrian, who was not on a crosswalk at

(01:20):
the time. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.
The driver remained to cooperate with investigators, and speed and
impairment are not factors in this crash. By our account,
this is the thirtieth pedestrian to die on Kerrent County
roadways this year.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
A motorcycle crash naral traffic heading over the Grapevine this weekend.
It happened on the southbound I five A Grapevine Road
around eleven thirty yesterday morning. Now, we don't have a
lot of details, but logs from the California Highway Patrol
traffic page shows two motorcycles collided with the white suv
you see on your screen. CHP shut down traffic so

(01:57):
a helicopter could land to metavac victims in the crash.
No word yet on how many people were hurt or
their condition. We have reached out to CHP for more information,
but have not heard back becaus of news time this morning.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
From our structures files filed fires file this Morning, Union
avenue saw four fires break out within a twelve hour period,
beginning overnight on Thursday seventeen's Vincent de Monte reports on
Bakersfield Fire's investigation.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
A half melted sign is the first thing Bakersfield Residency
when passing the Lamorage Motel past its gates, live bundles
of trash, a large puddle of water, and burning openings
in its former rooms. But the Lamorrage was not the
only building put out by the Bakersfield Fire Department Thursday night.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
We arrived on seeing we found a motel on fire,
an abandoned hotel. Over the course of twelve hours, we
had three buildings that were set on fire and one
exterior fire.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
The first of the fires began around eight pm Thursday
at Lamarie. Later, around four am Friday, firefighters were dispatched
to a warehouse a few steps away. A dumpster fire
broke out near the parking lot of the Great Castle
Restaurant shortly after. Finally, around eight am, a fire broke
out in the corner apartment of the Manila In Captain
Jonathan Ugaz says the department has not yet ruled out

(03:18):
a connection between the fires.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
You have multiple buildings that are unrelated. That's a huge
sign that these are intentionally set fires. We handle each
one separately and dive in and look for possible ignition
sources and where the fire started.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
In April, the Bakersfield Code Enforcement evicted the residence of
the Lamorage citing health and structural concerns. Since then, there
have been at least three reported fire incidents at the
motel this year alone.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
We've had a history, long history of fires at this address.
We've been here for lots of transient encampments, lots of
fires related to the transient population that has been squatting
in the motel.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Bakersfield Fire is still on the lookout for potential people
of interest in the Union Avenue cases.

Speaker 6 (04:04):
Begin acquiring witness statements, looking for video surveillance, and building
leads that we can follow in an attempt to locate
a suspect or a personal interest.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
The department is asking the community to keep their eyes
open for suspicious activity.

Speaker 6 (04:18):
So we encourage the community that if they see something
to say something, that if they see suspicious behavior or
report it.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
If anyone has any information on the fires, they should
reach out to the Community Vitality Division at six one
six three two, six, three, seven, three seven, Vincent Demonte
seventeen News, turning.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Out to a signature issue. Here at seventy two News,
we call Kern sober reality, and the reality is far
too many people are driving drunk or under the influence
of drugs here in Kerrent County, HP Bakersfield says, so
far this year, it's made nearly sixteen hundred UI arrests
and it's responded to three hundred and fifty do UI
collisions that kill twenty one people. Meanwhile, the Bakersol Police

(05:01):
Department says it has made more than five hundred and
eighty do u Y arrests and it's responded to three
hundred and eight do you Y collisions that killed ten people.

Speaker 7 (05:11):
I'm proud to be part of the Bakershill community, the culture,
the arts, and the music. I'm so glad my parents
taught me to speak Spanish and to honor our heritage
by singing traditional music. As an attorney with Rodriguez and Associates,
I'm proud to work in harmony with our community, helping

(05:33):
others and celebrating what makes us unique at Rodriguez in Associates.
When you need us, we'll be here for.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
You your sunrise forecast sponsored by Mcore Hillcrest.

Speaker 8 (05:46):
A lot of fun to happen to boo in the zoo.
I'll tell you, if you've never been out to Calm,
you will love it.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
I want to see all the animals dressed up.

Speaker 8 (05:54):
But hopefully they have.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
An easier time putting the costumes on the animals than
I did with my cat.

Speaker 8 (05:58):
Yeah, they put a few costs tams on more so
you get to see the bears have like a pumpkin
tree and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Guy Cinnamon, yeah, and the bear.

Speaker 8 (06:07):
So you'll have to head on out to Calm and
support them. It's great to have our very own zoo
right here in Current County. All right, sixty degree is
into Leno right now, along with Waco shafter fifty seven
sixty five in Armen and then into the mountains thirties,
forties and fifties. The cool spot this morning is Fraser
Park at thirty five forty three and de hatchbe and
we've got upper fifties for Lake Isabella. It's been really

(06:29):
nice in the mornings to get kind of that cool
air to come on in as we take a look
at the skies. We are in the clear. That's why
we'll be throughout the day. Here's a look at I
five over the grape Vine if you're headed in that
direction this morning. At around the state north and south,
very quiet. We'll see a typical marine layer along the
coastal areas, and you can see a little circulation just
off our coast. That is a week ay of low
pressure that's going to create somewhat of a southwesterly flow.

(06:51):
Whenever we see that, we actually see temperatures rise a
little bit. So that is not going to bring our
temperatures down, but we are going to be watching for
a little bit of a cool down later on. As
we take a look at Southlake Tahoe with thirty degrees,
they're definitely bundled up that way, and you can see
the moon shining brightly. They're at sixty one this afternoon,
eighty eight in Fresno, and then we've got those seventies
down to the south into La and San Diego. So

(07:13):
here's look at the big picture. Really not a lot
going on again. We've got this cutoffload that's going to
take place that actually will help bring our temperatures up,
and to the south, we've got some moisture that we're
going to be tracking, and this is Hurricane Priscilla, and
right now you can see just south of Cabo Si Lucas.
Now it is going to ride more north in the
coming days and eventually by Saturday it'll be just post tropical,

(07:36):
but we are going to watch for some of this
moisture to be maybe lifted into southern California. Doesn't look
like we'll see much in terms of rain here in
Kern County, just maybe a few clouds, but you can
see some showers into Los Angeles and also down into
San Diego. So that's something we'll watch later on in
the week and into the weekend. Today seventy two in
Fraser Park, seventy six in a leve Beck under sunny

(07:57):
skies for the valley eighty nine and Baker's sealed eight
Delano button Wellop you're at eighty seven today, and then
for the mountains, winds got seen around thirty seventy seven
into hatchbe Bever Valley, had seventy six into the current
River Valley. We're looking at the eighties today with Weldon
at eighty four, eighty three for Lake Isabelle, upper sixties
for Shirley Meadows and then out in the desert today

(08:19):
look for that northeast wind ten to twenty. We could
see some wind guests right around forty miles per hour.
We're looking at eighty three in Mojave with Ridgecrest right
near eighty six. Your extended forecast, and you can see
we bumped up tomorrow to ninety two, back in the
eighties on Wednesday, and then if you like those seventies,
they're coming back for the weekend by Saturday, mostly sunny
and seventy five.
