Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning, Kerrent County. This is the seventeen News at
Sunrise podcast, Your News on your Schedule, presented by Rod
Riquez and associates.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
But we begin this morning with a new trouble for
Calstaate Bakersfield in battled athletic department. Two former student athletes
have filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment in a hostile
environment during their time on the school softball team. The
lawsuit alleges head coach Altitia Alvarez and assistant coach James
Davenport consistently harassed female players during the twenty twenty three

(00:36):
twenty twenty four school year. This included creating a sexually
charged environment. The filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court
contains pages of lurid alleged details of the coach's interactions
with former student athletes. Davenport also alleged to have a
physically assaulted one student in the girls locker room in
the following school year. Several female student athletes on the

(00:58):
softball team made complaints about Oliver Eas and Davenport to
CSUB during this time. According to the lawsuit, attorneys for
the former students did not immediately respond to our request
for comment. CSB President Vernon B. Harper Junior released a
statement this evening yesterday evening, which reads, in part, we
take the concerns raised by former students and current students

(01:19):
seriously and will fully cooperate in the legal proceedings. He
also said, our mission and focus remain on providing a
safe and welcoming space for our students where they can
flourish and thrive through the power of education. You can
read more about the lawsuit on our website kget dot com.
The lawsuit also comes one month after csub's now former

(01:41):
assistant basketball coach Kevin Mays was arrested for pimping and pandering,
among other charges, and later charged with possession of child pornography.
Days later, CSUB announced that athletic director Kyle Konder was
quote no longer with the university, with no reason given
than On September twenty fourth, the university announced basketball head coach,
which Rod Barnes was unexpectedly quote ending his tenure with

(02:03):
the university, turning out.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Of a signature issue hari kgat pedestrians safety. New numbers
show at least thirty three pedestrians have died on Kerrent
County roadways, with the latest being they hid and run
in Oildale we told you about yesterday seventeen'sh Conrador reports
how this latest statistic highlights a much bigger problem on
our streets.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
CHP has investigated thirteen vehicle versus pedestrian deaths this year,
eleven of those in Bakersfield. Bakersfield police are investigating fourteen.
CHP officer Jorge Toro says the number of pedestrian deaths
on our roadways is in a small decline compared to
previous years.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
Of course, even just one is a major tragedy and
it impacts a lot of people. But I mean looking
at the years prior, where we are at a little
bit of a decline.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
But the issue is not just in Bakersfield. People are
dying all over the county. California, City Edison all have
reported pedestrian fatalities this year. In total, thirty three people
have died by getting hit by cars in Kern County
so far this year. In twenty twenty four, fifty seven
people were killed, and in twenty twenty three, sixty three

(03:16):
people lost their lives death after death, crash after crash,
and one street name a main thoroughway keep showing up
Union and South Union Avenue. Six people dead so far
this year. Sergeant Caleb Kaiser of BPD's Traffic Division says
Union Avenues issues are pedestrians choosing not to use marked crosswalks.

Speaker 6 (03:38):
An overwhelming majority of these closion investigations have determined that
the pedestrians were the ones primarily a fault.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
The area does see a high volume of our transient population.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
And there has been a number of hit and runs
across the county, eight in totals.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Yeah, I think the number one thing is a fear
of criminal prosecution, and in most of these cases is
what we do see is that the pedestrian is at fall.
So if the driver would have remained unseen, they would
have been just fine if they would cooperate with the CGP.

Speaker 7 (04:16):
I'm proud to be part of the Bakership community, the culture,

Speaker 6 (04:52):
It got a little bit breezy out here last night
as they were setting up. That's because we're starting to
see some weather changes out of the north, so we
saw those winds pick up a little bit. And today
we're going to get the influence of some cooler air
as well, so no upper eighties, so should be great
weather for this event throughout the day. Let's take you
to the maps and show you our current temperature right now,

(05:13):
Bakersfield sitting at fifty nine degrees, and we've got fifty
two to the north end Aleno into the mountains right now,
sixty six into half Beet, so a little warmer there
than Bakersfield, and then we've got fifties up into the
current River Valley. Skies are clear, no changes on that
front for us on this Thursday. In fact, clear skies
over the Greapevine if you're head of that direction right
now and around the state. If you see that circulation

(05:35):
to the north, that is the first system that we're
going to be tracking here in the next twenty four
to forty eight hours. It's also going to tap into
some of that moisture to the south, and doesn't look
like that moisture is going to make its way into
Kerrent County. But another system behind it, we'll talk about
here in just a second. Beautiful skies out of Ketalina
Island this morning, fifty six degrees there, they're on the

(05:57):
way up to seventy four this afternoon, LA seventy six
fre No. Eighty And if you're traveling northbound Sacramento in
the mid seventies this afternoon. So here's look at our
future cast. I talked about that first system. That's what
you're seeing right now, just off the coast of Oregon.
That's gonna slide south, but then take a more northerly path.
It will grab some of that moisture to the south
into Arizona, but it doesn't look like it's going to

(06:18):
reach us. Put this back in emotion. A secondary trough
arrives next week by Monday. It's in northern California. Put
it back in the motion, and it swings right through
Current County in southern California before it exits on Wednesday.
So we are looking at rain models are kind of
all over the place. Right now, this is pretty healthy.
The European model putting just shy of a half an
inch into Bakersfield, much more out in near Arvin, and

(06:40):
possibly one inch up at Lake Isabella. So then we
take a look at our other model. We look at
this is our GFS or our global forecast model. It
again is very high in the rain amounts. Then I
look at another model that's not actually on your screen,
and that's where I come up with your overall forecast.
But a fallstorm is on the way next week for
all of Kerk County should get measurable rain Tuesday into

(07:01):
early Wednesday. In the valley, I'm looking right now quarter
to three tenths of an inch, and for the mountains
about the same. We could see some puddling on our
local streets, and due to the lack of rain, rose
will be a little bit oily and slick. So we
need to be very cautious as this storm rolls in
next week. Today though, seventy two in Fraser Park under
sunny skies. For the valley, we're gonna be a little
cooler eighty two in baker Silds seventy nine and Delano

(07:24):
eighty one in Buttonwalop a northwest wind five to ten.
As we take a look at the mountains today seventy
eight to hatch be Bear Valley or at seventy four,
winds picking up and gusting around thirty in the afternoon.
And then for the currenti of Valley of south wind
ten to fifteen gusting to thirty. Well, then you're at
eighty seven along with Lake Isabella, beautiful weather out of
Shirley Meadows at sixty nine. And then for the desert
today eighty nine in Ridgecrest with Mojave at eighty five

(07:47):
winds gusting tur round thirty. So overall a beautiful day
to come on out to Strambler Park. If you're a
veteran again, this day is for you.
