Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning, Kerrent County. This is the seventeen News at
Sunrise podcast, Your News on Your Schedule, presented by Rodriguez
and associates.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
By your seventeen court Watch this morning. A convicted rapist
who was found guilty last month of attacking a woman
now faces life without parole when he's scheduled to be
sentenced this morning. In nineteen eighty nine, Sergi of Venegas
raped a woman. He served thirty years in prison for it.
He was released in twenty twenty one, and a few
months later, prosecutors say he ambushed a woman near Ming Avenue.

(00:38):
They say Venegas then dragged her into bushes at night
point and tried to sexually assault her before robbing her.
Last month, a jury found him guilty. Jurors also found
all aggravating factors in the case to be true. Among
them include the crime involved great violence, a weapon was used,
and the victim was particularly vulnerable, and a murder suspect

(01:00):
pleaded not guilty in court yesterday. On September seventeenth, deputies
responded to a shooting on Vine Street in South Bakersfield. There,
they found a man dead. Earlier this week, deputies arrested
Gregory and Dino on suspicion of kidnapping and murder, and
Dino is due back in court October twentieth.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
All happening round Current County. The Sheriff's Office has a
new major upgrade. KCSO has a stination in Taft for
many years, but with the growing numbers of deputies, it
decided it needed an upgrade. So the Taft substation moved
to a new station that's bigger with more upgraded equipments,
and open house was held yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Still able to service everything that we were able to
service before. One benefit is though, is that we are
around the corner from Taft PD, so to be able
to be a lot closer with them will help us
in working together to serve the people of Taft.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Well.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
That news station is on Gardner Field Road and it
is open Monday through Friday.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Happening this weekend in Taft to Oil Dorado is coming
back Cruz. We're seeing yesterday setting up for the festival.
The ten day event celebrates Curtain's oil industry. The city
of Taft has deep roots in the oil patch. Oil
Dorato is an event to honor the people who discovered
oil in western Current and those who helped expand the
industry over the decades. It started back in nineteen thirty

(02:24):
and it's been held every five years. Oil Dorado will
kick off with a civic luncheon today at the Oil
Dorado Event Center. California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton will speak
at the event. The festival goes on until the nineteenth.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, luck be a lady for you all. Tonight's Mega
Millions it has served to a whopping five hundred and
seventy five million dollar jackpot. This comes after nobody won
Tuesday shrawing. However, tickets matching a five of the six
numbers were sold in California, and get this right here
in Bakersfield, we are a lucky county.

Speaker 5 (02:57):
All.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
The winning ticket was sold at the ram So Express
on F Street. I looked it up zero point four
miles away from us at the Studio Real So, Anthony.
If you're hiding something, let me know.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
I'm just gonna ask you the same. That is your
gas tank full? I don't want to answer that, Ques, Okay, yeah,
ann you.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Despite not winning the jackpot, the ticket still won over
three hundred and two one thousand dollars. Tonight's drawing is
the largest jackpots so far this year and the eleventh
largest in the game's history. And speaking of a local
winners at Bakersfield has seen its share of lucky Lotto players.
Just this year, a powerball ticket matching five of six
numbers worth nearly one million dollars was sold at the

(03:35):
Albertson's on Rosedale Highway in September. Days later, a one
point five million dollar ticket with five of the six
numbers was sold into Hashbee.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Local law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and everyday citizens were recognized
last night for making a difference in our community. The
Current County Law Enforcement Foundation hosted its thirty seventh annual
Officer of the Year bank with at the Dignity Health
Convention Center over in downtown Baker's. The evening was full
of inspiring stories of bravery, dedication, and service in keeping

(04:05):
our community safe.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
Hetty Law Enforcement Foundation works with over thirty law enforcement
agencies all throughout Kern County and it's everyone from all
the sheriff's departments to the substations, to all the shps
to the police department here, but also the outer area
of police departments like Delana wasco.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Arvid. A number of awards were handed out to our
local heroes. Last night's event was well attended, with more
than seven hundred people packing the convention center.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Wow, what a good turnout for such an amazing night.
I'm proud to be part of the Bakershield community, the culture.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
The arts, and the music. I'm so glad my parents
taught me to speak Spanish and to honor our heritage
by singing traditional music. As an attorney with Rodriguez In Associates,
I'm proud to work in harmony with our community, helping
others and celebrating what makes us unique at Rodriguez In Associates.

(05:08):
When you need us, we'll be here for you.

Speaker 7 (05:12):
Just want to talk about your weather forecast. It is
a finally Friday. We made it Kerr County. Right now,
we're in the upper fifties in Baker's Field, fifty two
in Delano, and then we've got thirties out of Fraser Park,
so you will definitely need a jacket there. Sixty one
out of Ta Hatchbee skies are clear right now. The
area where we'll watch today is off to the east
into the desert, where we're still watching remnants of Priscilla

(05:32):
I five of the Great Mine. If you're head of there,
beautiful morning, and as we take a look at the
regional view, we've got two things happen. We have a
load to the north that's going to draw moisture from
Priscilla to the south, moving it east as we go
throughout our friday. Here the eastern part of the desert
is the cutoff in terms of any of those storms developing.
So I'm not expecting that here into Current County, and
you can see that on the thunderstorm forecast well off

(05:53):
to the east and into Nevada and even into Arizona
throughout the afternoon. Daytime highs today right near seventy five
and Acramano eighty in Fresno. If you're headed south, seventies
and eighties in place, and not bad out of Vegas.
You want to try your luck there with a high
of eighty. So here's what's going to happen. This is
the future cast model, and you can see this first
system moving off to these secondary part of this moves
on in by early next week out of the north.

(06:16):
It's going to pack a bigger punch, and you can
see the rain does look like it pushes into Current County.
I will say the models have been all over the place.
You can see on our rain cast. The best shot
to see this rain will become late Monday night, more
so near midnight into Tuesday, lingering into Wednesday. In terms
of rain mountains, take a look at this European model
wants to put near a half an inch over a
half an inch ar three quarters of an inch now

(06:37):
into Bakersfield. I think that's a little high. As we
take a look at our global forecast model, it also
is putting an inch of rain in Bakersfield. We've lived
here long enough we know that is probably a little
out of range. So some of the other models that
I looked at, I took consistence on those, and this
is what I'm looking at. Valley quarter to a half
an inch half an inch would be on the high side.
For the mountains, a quarter to three quarters of an inch.

(06:58):
I'm looking more the quarter of an inch side of things.
But it will get a little slick if that materializes.
Air quality today monit with an AQI fifty three, seventy
three in Frasier Park today with seventy seven in Lubec
and for the valley today seventies and eighties with Baker
Shield looking for a high right near eighty one, so
overall not about forecast on this Friday.
