Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning, Kern County. This is the seventeen News at
Sunrise podcast, Your News on Your Schedule, presented by Rodriguez
and associates.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We begin this.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Morning with the ongoing search for an inmate after he
or she escaped from custody while being taken for an appointment.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
According to Kern County Sheriff's.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Office, deputy said at about eleven pm Saturday, the inmate
inkcso's custody escaped while being taken by detention deputies for
an appointment. A search was immediately launched and is ongoing,
but nearly twenty four hours after the escape, the KCSO
has refused to release any information.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
About the escapee.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Video posted to social media shows a male inmate in
an orange jumpsuit out running a female deputy in the
parking lot of Kerr Medical. We aren't showing that video
because we haven't confirmed its authenticity. Several people commenting on
the video say deputies knocked on doors of homes in
the area of Kerr Medical and East High School late
into Saturday night and Sunday morning, and we have asked
(01:01):
KCSO a handful of questions about the case, but have
not heard back as of news time. We did notice
the video is remarkably similar to the December twenty twenty
four escape of murderer Cesar Hernandez. He was being transported
into Lano when he escaped somehow with no handcuffs, no shackles,
and wearing running shoes from the Delano courthouse. He murdered
a police officer in Mexico before he was recaptured. And
(01:24):
two people are dead after a fatal collision. On Saturday,
right before noon, the Kern County Fire Department in California
Highway Patrol responded to a collision involving a semi truck
and a black sedan near Highway.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Sixty five and Fomoso Road.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Both the driver and the passenger of the black sedan
were pronounced dead at the scene. The mail driver of
the semi truck was transported by Hall ambulance with moderate
to major injuries. According to witnesses, the semi truck was
traveling southbound on Highway sixty five towards Bakersfield when the
black sedan attempted to cross Fomoso Road. California Highway Patrol
remained on the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
In your seventeen Court watch a shocking courtroom incident Friday
morning when one inmate spat at another and shouted a
profanity before being escorted out. The accused child killer, Margaret
I Course, was seated at the bench when another inmate,
Sharon Cruz, turned around, approached I Cours and spat in
her direction. Cruse then shouted a profanity followed by child
(02:23):
predator before deputies immediately escorted her out of the courtroom.
No physical injuries were reported, and the trial continued once
Cruz left. The court has not yet released any statement
about disciplinary action against Cruise or any further changes to
security protocols. I Courses thirty three and is charged with
first degree murder and assault on a child under eight
(02:45):
resulting in death in connection with the death of her
three year old foster son. Cruz is twenty four and
is facing charges including human trafficking of a minor. She's
due back in court next week. In your seventeen road
work file, Highway one seventy eight is back open this
morning after more than a week of closures. Officials say
(03:07):
the road reopened Sunday afternoon when Southern California Edison Cruz
finished repairing down power lines at the mouth of the canyon.
The lines first came down September twelfth, forcing Caltrans and
the CHP to shut down that stretch of the highway.
Crews worked through the week, keeping the road closed for
much of each day until repairs were finally completed Again.
(03:29):
Highway one seventy eight is fully open and traffic is
moving normally through the canyon.
Speaker 5 (03:35):

a great time at the fair.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yes we're going later this week.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yes we'll be going again later this week. But it's
been so fun to meet all of you out at
the fair.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
So thanks for.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Coming up and says shows one really well, especially last
Friday morning. Yes, that was really fun.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Such a fun weekend at the fair. I'm glad that
I got to experience it.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
And we still have a week ago welcome back. Many
ancient dugout canoes have been found in Florida's Gulf Coast,
all believed to have belonged to the ancestors of Indian tribes.
This may not be one of them. The Florida Division
of Historical Resources believe this one may have come from
the Caribbean. The canoe was discovered in Fort Myers after
(06:28):
Hurricane Ian in twenty twenty two. It is about nine
feet long and made from a single treat. Scientists are
still trying to determine when it was made.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
And also in Florida, thirteen US customs officers at Tampa's
International Airport unwrapped a bundle of bones, including part of
a human skull. Officers say they made the discovery when
a passenger declared ten cigars was found with the bag
of human remains. According to officials, the travelers belongings also
included prohibited plants, undeclared cigars, and other times. The passenger
(07:02):
told officers the remains are used for ritual use. The
items were seized and destroyed. What an interesting weekend for Florida.
What are we doing over there?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Were those bones real or they?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
I don't know. The passenger seemed to have a lot
of things he shouldn't have. I mean, we're finding old canoes,
We're finding bones.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
What's going on over here?
Speaker 4 (07:24):
I mean cigars was the thing he claimed in that
interesting cool Welcome back to Sunrise. The fair is all
about making memories with loved ones, But for the Mdueno family.
Their night at the fair is all that more special
seventeen's Vincit de Monty as the story.
Speaker 6 (07:42):
The Bakersfield Fire Department follows the motto of protecting and
serving the community, and the Kern County Fair is no exception,
especially when it comes to helping families who have gone
through some of the toughest years of their lives.
Speaker 7 (07:54):
So every year we collaborate with Make a Wish for
a program called Firefighters Treating Memories. We take local recipients
of the Make Wish in the current county area and
we take the families out for a night at the fair.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
George as far Asa has been volunteering for the Firefighters
Creating Memories program for about ten years. His reason for
joining the program is rooted in his own family experience.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
My own little sister was part of the Make a Wish.
Speaker 7 (08:20):
When I got hired on, we were looking at different
programs to volunteer for. I saw that this was one
of them. I said, you know, this is the one
I want to get back.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
So I've had it for ten years.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
We've had great families all throughout the years.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
Fifteen year old to have to pee resident Ivan with
duino is one of this year's recipients. Two years ago,
Ivan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called
Rye do Mayo sarcoma, which came in the form of
a tumor on his arm. As a student athlete and
football player, the diagnosis was a bloat to his ability
to play his favorite sport.
Speaker 8 (08:51):
So when I first started playing football, play you know,
every position, and then after my treatment and a little
bit of you know, having to be careful because the
things that happened. Thankful, great coaches, love my coaches.
Speaker 6 (09:01):
Midweno received an outpour of support, not only from friends
and family, but his teammates and coaches as well. With
that support and his own resilience, Midueno was able to
join his football team in a different way as the
team's kicker, going.
Speaker 8 (09:14):
To a position that was a lot safer and still
allowed me to be with my team and have fun.
And that was kicker and I love it.
Speaker 6 (09:20):
After plenty of treatments and some surgeries, I even went
into remission in February of last year. Esponsa is touched
knowing that he could give Ivan a night of fair
fund after years of tough times. His message, don't take
things for granted.
Speaker 7 (09:35):
It's a very fulfilling and you could go through our
day to day lives and really take things for granted, right,
and we see a family that is just happy to
be together have a night out where it's just another day,
maybe another day to you and I, but to them
it'd be everything.
Speaker 6 (09:51):
A night at the fair can definitely be a night
to remember, but for the Modueno family, it's sure to
be one that they'll never forget.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Cowboy boots and blue jeans, well, they go hand and
foot when it comes to fair apparel, but fair fashion,
he says, like to break from tradition and make a
statement at the Kern County Fair, and this year is
no exception. So I'm gonna take you out to the
fair to scope out the ootds or outfits of the day. Hey,
we are finally here today at the Great Kern County Fair.
And today I'm wearing my hat from the fort Worth
(10:23):
Stockyards at my vest from Gap, my skirt is from Abercrombie,
and my boots are actually from Amazon. That's what I'm
wearing today. And Outfit of the Day videos have become
increasingly popular on social media, So today we're gonna go
around and see your best Kern County Fair outfit of
the days. Ay Kelley Shay I RAI calling yesterday on
(10:44):
sunrise you met Ella and she showed us her ootd
Whether you show up ready to rock or need some
sprucing up. From some of the booths, the Kern County
Fair brings out a variety of fashion statements. From the
color and sparkle of a new hairdoo, it's.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Very praying and I also will say pak.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Sex to the confidence of sporting a brand new outfit
with your mom.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
This outfit is stress from them all yeah too, and
even the.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Thrill of finding a good deal on the perfect outfit.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
You guys, if you're not shopping at Ross, you should be.
Speaker 9 (11:14):
This is from Ross.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
This is from Ross.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I'm gonna give the night one fit checks and eleven
out of ten. One new vendor is helping shoppers look
and feel their best, even providing one couple of their
very first cowboy hats.
Speaker 10 (11:26):
We actually had a couple from Italy who were here.
They were visiting in the area and they heard about
the Kerrent County Fair and they decided to come out
and check it out. They got the first cowboy hat
ever they fly out back home tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
E and D Hat Company lets customers personalize their very
own cowboy hats, which Rick says is a huge help
for people who are scared to try a new fashion statement.
Speaker 10 (11:44):
And a lot of the times we're very self conscious
of what people think of how we look in hats.
But once you get that first compliment of you look
great in that hat, it never stops there. You want
more and more and more of it. And it's just
a confidence booster. So we don't sell hats, we sell confidence,
you know.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
So maybe and Dies sold some of our seventeen reporters
the confidence.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
That they have.
Speaker 6 (12:03):
I think we're looking a little hot right now.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
Call this contemporary cowboy. I got my leather shoes on,
I've got my leather belt, I've got my button up.
Speaker 9 (12:11):
I weren't brown.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Just kidding, boys, y'all look great.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
If you're looking for a place to embrace your inner
cowboy or cowgirl, live out your princess fantasies, or most importantly,
have a great time with friends and family. No matter
what you wear, the fair is the perfect opportunity to,
in the spirit of this year's theme, create your moment.
I mean talking to everyone was so fun. That was
the first night of the fair and I got to
(12:36):
meet all these people, and it was so fun to
just see everyone out and about and enjoying the fair
and all their different attires.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
It seems like everyone was enjoying the fair and everyone
is willing to talk about their outfits too.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Which is really cool.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Oh yeah, Well there were some people that said no,
but I was like, oh, but you have such a
cool outfit. So, I mean, I know it can be
scary to go on cameras, so I'm glad I got
to talk to all those people, and I got to
show the little girls and their cute outfits with their
parents' approval. But it was just very special and something
that I really love is to say what I've really
you're an.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Upgrade fit from maybe like a cowboy hat with some boots,
because you've got a nice cowboy hat.
Speaker 3 (13:08):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I know how to help you out.
Andy hat Coo, who we.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Just talked to there, it was even brand her initials.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
I'll have to bring it in sometime.
Speaker 11 (13:18):
I'm proud to be part of the Bakershial community, the culture,
the arts, and the music. I'm so glad my parents
taught me to speak Spanish and to honor our heritage
by singing traditional music. As an attorney with Rodriguez and In Associates,
I'm proud to work in harmony with our community, helping
(13:40):
others and celebrating what makes us unique at Rodriguez In Associates.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
When you need us, We'll be here for you. Turning
to news around the nation, it's been twelve days since
right wing activists and influencer Charlie Kirk was assassinated on
the campus of Utah Valley University. The murder stunning the nation,
especially difficult for political conservatives, including President Donald Trump and
(14:06):
Vice President jd Vance, who called Kirk a dear friend. Yesterday,
they were among tens of thousands gathering in his home
state of Arizona to say goodbye. Jay Gray was at
the memorial in Glendale and joins us with a closer look.
Speaker 5 (14:22):
Park Church Service, then Park political rallies. Ninety five thousand
of more gathering Glendale, Arizona Sunday, pulled there by Charlie
Kirk's message and to share one of their own.
Speaker 11 (14:36):
I believe everybody shared the right to free speech and
not get shot for it.
Speaker 5 (14:39):
Here in the United States in twenty twenty five. The
thirty one year old activist and influencer, remembered by friends, fans,
and colleagues as a Christian and conservative martyr.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Charlie was not silenced. His movement is only beginning.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
A message echoed as a half dozen members of President
Trump's cabinet and Vice President jd vance one by one
step to the stage, followed by Kirk's widow, Erica, and.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I will miss him. I will miss him so much.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Wrought with emotion, she shares the pain of her loss.
Leaning on her faith, she says to forgive the man
accused of killing her husband, and promising to grow their
message and mission.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
Every part of our work will become greater. I am
tremendously honored.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
To be the new CEO of Turning Point USA.
Speaker 5 (15:41):
President Trump, closing the more than five hour memorial.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
I know I speak for everyone here today when I
say that none of us.
Speaker 11 (15:49):
Will ever forget Charlie Kirk, and neither now will.
Speaker 5 (15:54):
History is eulogy at time, spinning into a discussion of
his administrations and initiatives, and swipes of political opponents.
Speaker 12 (16:02):
The radical left, lunatics.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Including former President Joe Bidens, before calling Kirk's widow back
to the stage to a standing ovation as a banner
of her late husband is unfurled from the stadium's raptors.
J Gray NBC News, Glendale, Arizona.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
President Donald Trump says he will soon posthumously award Kirk
the Medal of Freedom. It's the nation's highest civilian honor.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
As thousands gathered for Charlie Kirk's memorial, the nation faces
tough questions on free speech. Kirk was a staunch advocate
for free speech protections, but there are new concerns in
the wake of his death, from the suspension of ABC
late night host Jimmy Kimmel to new rules at the Pentagon.
NBC's Alice Barr has the latest from Washington.
Speaker 9 (16:58):
This morning, pressingquestions from both sides of the aisle about
free speech in America. As tens of thousands said goodbye
to the murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a public
memorial in Arizona.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
I will miss him so much because our marriage and
our family were beautiful.
Speaker 9 (17:16):
Many, including President Trump, honoring Kirk's commitment to promoting free speech.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
It's the right and inheritance of every free American the
greatest legacy of the Enlightenment and among the most treasured
achievements of civilization. We will defend it at all costs.
Speaker 10 (17:34):
Now.
Speaker 9 (17:34):
In the wake of Kirk's assassination, there are new concerns
about censorship thrust to the forefront after ABC indefinitely pulled
its late night host Jimmy Kimmel off air after his
comments about Republicans response to Kirk's murder that led to
criticism from the FCC chairman and suggestions of potential action
(17:56):
involving the network's license. President Trump has since made similar
comments lawmakers in both parties weighing.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
In the FCC was wronged the way in and I'll
fight any attempt by the government to get involved.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
With speech censorship and what we're seeing from the federal
government only serves to further divide us and make us
less safe.
Speaker 9 (18:17):
It comes amid new Defense Department restrictions that journalists can
no longer gather or report information, even unclassified, without authorization
from the government or risk losing their press credentials. The
National Press Club calling it a direct assault on independent journalism,
while Defense Secretary Pete Hegsith argued the press does not
(18:38):
run the Pentagon the people do.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Today.
Speaker 9 (18:43):
President Trump heading to New York for the United Nations
General Assembly with a focus on the wars in Gaza
and Ukraine. He teased an announcement related to autism first
in Washington Alice bar and BC News.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
Meantime, students, faculty, and staff will be returning to Evergreen
High School this week as they recover from the shooting
that took place twelve days ago. A sixteen year old
student shaw and injured two others before killing himself. Those
two students remain in the hospital. The Jefferson County Sheriff's
Office is continuing its investigation. They will work to prepare
(19:20):
the school for students to gradually return starting Thursday. Evergreen
Principal Skuyler Artist believes a return in normalcy is made
possible by the local community.
Speaker 13 (19:30):
As we move forward together, one thing I am certain
of is that this school and this community hold the
most incredible, the most courageous people I have ever known.
This community is strong and it will continue to be
so as we take these first few steps together.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
Artists also mentioned the addition of a new full time
school resource officer and many other security measures put in
place as the community works to move forward. Students, faculty,

Artas also mentioned the addition of a new full time

As the community works to move forward, We'll go back everybody.
In entertainment news, a pair of shows are making their

Speaker 12 (21:17):
We're back Baby, in particular, Nile Horn's.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Back and you haven't done this through light.
Speaker 12 (21:23):
It's very He returns to the coaching panel along with
Snoop Dogg, Michael Boublay, and Reba McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
He's cute, but ah, Snoop, I was talking about you.
Speaker 8 (21:39):
There'll be something that's really special about this season, and.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
It's the camaraderie we have.
Speaker 8 (21:43):
I think it's the compassion or empathy we have for
the for the artists we enjoy doing this gig.
Speaker 12 (21:48):
The coaches competing, Oh my god. I just want to
fight in a cage with somebody to win over artists.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
And I have a feeling you would love very cute in.
Speaker 12 (21:55):
This who have that special? Boys?
Speaker 6 (21:59):
I kind of just trying to stay focused on what
really touches my heart?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Am I touched?
Speaker 2 (22:03):
Am I gonna cry when you finished?
Speaker 1 (22:05):
That's what I'm looking for.
Speaker 12 (22:06):
Snoop Dogg is also looking for his first win. His
fellow coaches combined have won the last five seasons and
I ain't got no win, So I'm trying to figure
this out, like what are y'all doing and I'm not doing?
Answering that question leads into a mystery to start the
second season of Brilliant Minds.
Speaker 14 (22:25):
We definitely pick up all of our story in a
place that we would not expect.
Speaker 12 (22:29):
The opening moments provide a chilling flash forward for doctor
Oliver Wolf, an unconventional neurologist who tackles conditions impacting the brain.
Speaker 8 (22:38):
We basically have a six month runway of trying to
figure out how he gets from where we expect him
to be to where we find him.
Speaker 12 (22:45):
The journeys, both for Wolf and the Voice contestants begin tonight.
Mark Parker, NBC Entertainment.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Well McDonald's is giving customers a blast from the past.
Next month, the restaurant chain is bringing back its popular
Knopoly game stickers on its food products. This year's return
includes game pieces that you can use in the McDonald's app.
There will also be instant win pieces and collect to
win prizes. Prizes can be redeemed from when the game
begins through November fourth. We have a message for those
(23:14):
who find it hard to get a good night's sleep.
This is probably for me researchers in China found that
high intensity power yoga for thirty minutes at least twice
a week can improve sleep quality within eight to ten weeks.
The study claims the relax in relax relaxation that comes
with physical exertion, controlled breathing, and mindfulness is key to
(23:35):
promoting deeper sleep.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
I'm gonna have to try that.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
I also need to try that. And it's good to
know that it's only what thirty minutes twice a week. Yeah,
this isn't like a long two hour mega exercise here.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
I wonder if it counts if you do an hour total.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Maybe?
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Oh yeah, you just knocked both out. See we're working smarter,
not hard.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Kevin's trying it over there.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
See Kevin, Kevin, can you balance on one leg and do.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
That tree thing? The tree thing? Yes, repost the tree.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
I don't know what it is.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 14 (24:02):
I'm having a hard time just doing this.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Look at that.
Speaker 2 (24:05):
Kevin is a Kevin. What is that warrior too? I
don't know. I feel like warrior.
Speaker 14 (24:10):
I feel like the Karate kid.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Thirty minutes of that and you're gonna have the best
sleep in your life in eight to ten weeks.
Speaker 14 (24:17):
I'll have to give it a try. You know, I
have heard yoga is great for sleep, it's good all around,
and you're right. It doesn't take a lot of that
exertion out of you. It's more relaxing than anything. So
we'll have to give it a shot.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
Man.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
We'll go take a Yoka class.
Speaker 14 (24:31):
Sunrise Adventure. Sunrise Adventure. Yeah, in town at yoga. All right,
we'll think about it.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
