(00:48):
Her outstanding performance won her a topspot in Houston's Top Comedians. Heather is
a Houston native who throughout childhood hadplans of being an actress and a model.
However, lacking the height for modeling, she converted her acting skills into
comedy and today she is loved forher hilarious performance and stuff on stage.
That said, shortly after taking oncomedy and having her first show at Times
(01:10):
Square in Houston, Texas. Shegot nicknamed the SBIC, which translates to
sexiest fish in comedy. Vogue andGlamour Italian magazine gave her the title of
the World's Prettiest Comedian. Heather isdefinitely one of those comedians we can't keep
our eyes off of, and sheis destined for the fame, the glitz,
(01:30):
the glamor, and everything in between. So now, without further ado,
let's please welcome the Glamour Girl ofComedy, MS Heather Hatten. Heather,
Oh, thank you, thank you. I like that, Honey.
Well, I hear you on anSBIC, so you are a title holder.
I meant to put that there. You know, you need a crown,
(01:52):
you know what I'm saying. Ilike that. Yeah, I love
it. I love it. Sowhat's what's so crazy is just reading your
bio on all your accomplishments work, which is outstanding. To have had the
chance to speak to you and justhave hearing so many wonderful things about you.
(02:15):
You're so humbling down to earth. How do you stay so grounded with
all of these accomplishments. I thinkit has a lot to do with the
fact that I'm a mother, andso when you are a mother of I
have three kids, so when youare a mother, that keeps you grounded.
You know, I don't have ananny now. My parents do help
(02:35):
me out a lot, but youknow, and I also think it's because
you know, I'm a country girl, so you know I was raised to
be very humble and that you know, when you started getting too cocky,
God can just take it away fromyou. So I think my upbringing and
the fact that like I'm like amama for real, like homeschool mama coming.
(02:57):
So you can't be through Sabina whenyou trying to feel y'all from fifth
grade problem honey, Oh yeah, mention that. O. Lord, I'm
going to home school myself, andI already know I feel like I may
enroll myself in adults specially and seriously. So I get you. So,
you know, I hear you saying, I know you're from Houston, you're
a country girl. But also youknow you keep you know, nice and
(03:21):
fit. You have a physique. So how do you balance that because I
know that down southern cooking. Isthere some kind of workout regimen you have
or I do work out. Ido work out a lot. I'm not
a fan of plastic surgery or artificeor anything that the most I white,
you know, the most I mightdo as far as something is like it
(03:43):
just some weave or put some colorcontact in or something. But I'm not
a fan of going to the doctorand getting cut on and have a bud
some TDS or stomach none of that. So I do work out. I
hate cardio, but cardio is whatkind of keep my my stomach very slim,
and unlike most people, I'm naturallya petite woman. So I actually
(04:06):
work out to get thicker, whichis crazy because like most people think,
uh, you know, like personaltrainers, which is crazy because like most
personal trainers only know how to helppeople lose weight, they don't know how
to help them boke. And soI actually had to get away from the
personal trainers and so I actually Ihave my own workout regimen and I try
(04:28):
to work out at least three timesa week. I try to watch what
I eat. I am a cokefanatic. I love coke, coach.
I love me because coke make melook like I'm nine months pregnant. So
what I can't tell I mean,you know, you look like you're slaying
and nice and snatched. And thefact that you said you are naturally petite,
I mean, come on now, they're right there. Yeah. As
(04:50):
a matter of fact, when Iwent to the doctor a couple of weeks
ago, you know, she toldme, she said, hey, your
body frame and your joints are notmade to be the that you are.
Like I'm five to three and Iweigh one hundred and ninety. It doesn't
look like it because it's muscle, but because I'm naturally fatigued, like when
I walk, like my knees hurt. It's crazy, like when you realize
(05:12):
sometime your joints are not made tocarry that kind of weight. I though,
it's not like heavyweight, like sayyou're like, it's still weight of
the muffle. And so she waslike, okay, heaven you you look
good, but you're not made tobe your speech. I actually like you.
I forgot I look good. Soyou like being a little thicker than
the snicker. But you know it'sgood too when it's when it's tone and
(05:36):
when it you know, it's notsloppy. So you know that's fortunate because
you know, some of us myselfwith this quarantine weight. You know,
it's started to look a little bit, you know, out of place.
I've had to put myself on somerestrictions. So you doing. You inspire
me to do some workouts at leastmaybe once a week. I don't know
about the three times I got thebaby steps, but you know, I
(06:01):
gotta take your advice here because youknow, you hold titles, so I
gotta you know. And I alsoI've read too that you are deemed a
tomboys. So here you are theSBFC, but you're a tomboy? Where
is that? Like? How dowe I think people gave me that because
(06:24):
I'm more of it. I'm notlike the which is really funny because when
they say glamor girl, because likeI don't. I don't wear a lot
of makeup. You know, Idon't really do the nail thing that I
do keep my toes done. I'mgonna keep my toes gonna always be saying
the reddy right. But you know, I'm I'm known for wearing caps like
(06:46):
I wear caps, I wear jeans, I wear a T shirts. You
know, I'm not like the typical. You know how you see these Instagram
girls always made up. I thinkI look. Yeah, I think I
look. We make up, behonest with you, but I don't.
You get natural beauty pretty much justnow with a little spice here and there.
(07:09):
Yeah, like I may put somelip gloss on, I may put
some mess era on, but youknow, and then and then another thing
is I have sensitive skins. Sothat's another reason why I'm kind of like
makeup free, because depending on whatkind of makeup I put on, you
know, I might have a reaction. But you know, I typically I
typically just don't wear any makeup.I just I keep my face clean.
(07:32):
I may put on like some youknow, like some kind of clean abilene
or something like that, and that'sthat's really it. But I'm not a
you know, I don't. Idon't get all dressed up and stuff.
I have some warm up song. And most of the time, most people
who work out, that's how wehave these work out clothes. So I
(07:54):
have a lot of work out clothes. But see you're working out. See
may I have workout clothes. SometimesI feel inspired to just put them on,
and I might run an errand. And so you know, people in
the public, they may assume,oh, you know, she's so young,
she's about to be getting her businesson. But I just were,
you know, hoping that eventually, you know, that would translate to me
actually working out. So you know, I'm inspired to that. I gotta
(08:18):
I'm gonna do something. I'm gonnado once a week. I'm gonna start
it off. I'm gonna start Monday. I gotta get past the weekend and
I'm gonna start on Monday and getit together. So well, you know,
you being nice and snatched and youknow, popping in all the right
places? Are you locked down? Are you married? Are you singleated to
mingle? What? What's going onin the love love life? I actually
(08:39):
do have a boyfriend. No,I'm not married. I have been engaged
and proposed to nine times. I'mjust ough. Yeah. Yeah, keep
the ring? Did you keep them? Did you keep the rings each time?
(09:01):
No? No, Because I'm I'mthe kind of person that when I'm
done, I'm done, I don'twant to call. I don't want you
texting me for nothing. I don'twant you to feeling like you need to
stop by my house for nothing. So when i'm when when I'm done with
something troun son, When when I'mdone with something. I'm done with it,
(09:22):
so I give them back any ifthey bother me something, take it
back, you know, because likepeople like the whole stuff over your head.
I don't like people holding stuff overmy head. Yeah, but that's
good though, that's good to hear. Well, look, let's say something
about you nine times. That meanthat you it's something about you that people
want to lock you down. Sothat's good. Yeah. I think what
(09:46):
it is is they find that which, you know, something I was just
something a friend of mine is thatsometimes they say I'm like the boring girlfriend
because I don't do three fooms,I don't smoke weed, I'm not bisexual,
which is nothing wrong with that, you know, I don't pop Miley's
(10:07):
And they like, you're the goodgirlfriend, but you're boring, like you're
not fun. And I'm like, okay, well that's fine. You know
if you if you see come boring, that's fine. But I think they
see that, you know what thatgirl holding down. She don't have a
handout, asking no man for nothing. She has goals, she's successful,
(10:28):
and you know, like when peopleask me what I bring to the table
and I tell them, I say, I'm a wood with that build a
table, So I don't we're talkingaout what I bring to the type I
am the tape. I think it'syes, like it's just my confidence.
And I mean sometimes people say I'mcocky, but I don't think so.
But I think it's my my confidencethat they are attracted to. And hold
(10:52):
on, let me hold on,gat it Mama and the midler doing something.
Okay, wait till I get through. Okay, thank you post.
See let me tell you too, because see, this is everybody. This
is how we keep it real andkeep it live because see everybody can can
(11:13):
feel this. And this just makesyou so much more relatable because we've been
quarantine for so long and now we'vebecome teachers and you know we've already been
made and nannies and homemakers and allthat other kind of stuff. So you
know, family comes first. Sosometimes you gotta give mama second. I
have to do this right now.Yeah, but he's but you know what
(11:39):
it is is they find out thatyou know what this this girl is about
her business. She keep her appearanceup. She ain't why, she ain't
nagging, you know, she shejust do her. Because like I've even
had some you know some guys askme why don't well make up? And
I was like, I asked youtook it as an insult, like you
think I should? But dining withme again, you know, with a
(12:01):
loud I'm like, well, youknow what, excuse me for wanma wake
up with a clean pillow case?Lib Well, have they not seen look,
Louis need to let them know.Excuse me? Have you not seen
my title? Okay, okay,I don't need all that. I'm the
SB I s they need to getin order. See, that's why they
to the left goodbye. Yeah. And you know, and like I said,
(12:22):
I think it's because you have somany women now who wear a lot
of makeup that I think men havejust become to expect that. So when
you don't wear it, they like, what's wrong with you? And I'm
like nothing, sep steam too howbi Okay? I know that? Yeah,
(12:43):
I done? That's right. Andso you know, I had another
question because I read also that youwere a former gymnast, So I mean
you you're just doing it all youcan do comedy model, act, your
backflips, somersault. Yeah, yeah, you know that. Don't be about
gymnastics. Now, How I feelabout it. Now, I feel like
(13:07):
the actual sport of it is good. I think, uh, the the
politics has been exposed behind it,but I actually because I'm I'm always did
gymnist at heart, so I stilldo love the sport. Like the Olympics,
that's the main thing I watched isgymnastics. And actually my my coach
(13:28):
was Bella Coroni. That's who mymy my parents. Yeah, so that's
what my parents sent me, sentme to. And so like when all
that stuff was going on, likeme and my dad was laughing because you
know, I'm not going to sayit's a race thing, but you know,
Black parents don't drop their kids off. When I was at practice,
(13:48):
my mom and dad was at practice, so they didn't have a chance to
get to me because you know,we just don't play that and and and
in our community, because you seewhat happened when you just you know,
you're just dropping your children off andyou think they're gonna be okay because you
think you're dropping them off with responsibleadults until you find out years later what
happened. So you know, likewith my parents were looking like, oh,
(14:13):
well shit, that's them. Youshould have stayed with them. With
my parents when my parents took me. They would sit in the gym,
I would work out, do myflips, balance bean balls or whatever.
As soon as I was gone, got my bag, we was gone.
And I'm like that with my children. I never dropped my children off anywhere.
I'm gonna stay with my kids becauseit's something go down. I need
(14:35):
to be there. And a lotof times people don't mess with your children
because you are there, you know. So I mean I love the sport,
I really do. I you know, I just think it's a lot
of politics behind the scenes that Godexposed it is. Uh And like I
(14:56):
said, I'm naturally fatigue, soyou know, I had to be fatite
to be a gymnast whatever. SoI actually liked to like the sport.
I like Simon, I really followher. Some Mo Biles, the other
Yeah, I love Yeah, theother black girl who they was paying,
you know because of her hair.I like dominy dogs. So I'm gonna
(15:16):
always be a gymnist at heart.I love it. I love it.
So I wanted so going into theindustry, like having the opportunity to perform
at an essence and just being onso many different platforms. What was that
experience like for you. I meanit seems like you just had a whirlwind,
you know, the thing after sayingblessing after blessing, you know,
(15:37):
so many accomplishments. How did thatfeel to just really start to see your
dreams manifest and become a reality. It's so good. Sometimes I'm like,
you know, when they faith foryou to just step out on faith and
just have effort mentality like you beamazed at what could happen, and you
(16:00):
know, I just look at itand like, you know, a little
country girl, I'm like, I'mdoing it, you know, And I
think like for my my my daughter. I have one daughter, she's a
rapper. I think like for mykids, they can see me that,
you know. I though you mayhave kids at a young age, your
dreams are not really deny. They'redelayed. They not delighted, you know,
(16:21):
denied. And I like it.I like it. I when I
was I actually started off when Iwas pregnant with my son, and I
used to before I go on stage, when like I like, most comedians
are entertainers or whatever. Before theygo on stage, you know, they
some of them, some of themdo sugar boogerm, some of them drink
(16:45):
some of them do a lot ofstuff. But I actually, when I
was pregnant with my son, ofcourse I couldn't drink anymore. So I
learned to actually go on stage sober, and so I really enjoy like every
moment of it now, like Ireally enjoy every moment every now, and
you know, to even be it, you know, involved in the essen
(17:07):
scenes. It was like, wow, you're here, like you're here.
So I enjoyed it. That's huge. So I actually, because you know,
I do my digging and that thestreets. We talked, so I
know some things. And I heardthat you actually audition for a show that
(17:27):
is airing now called Pea Valley. How was that audition? How did how
did you like it? And doyou watch the show? I don't watch
the show because I didn't even knowthat the show got picked up initially when
I had auditioned for it. Ithad gotten picked up by Showtime or something
because I auditioned for it over twoyears ago. So actually, Kay Michelle
(17:52):
had audition. It was a lotof people who did auditioned for the movie.
So when my publishers call me,hold on, I don't want to
building with you old, Okay,So when when I auditioned. I went,
(18:19):
I went to Atlanta and I auditionedor whatever. And then my publicist
called me like a couple of weeksago and she's said, Heather, I
think that show you audition for ison but she said it was like on
Roku or something, the roku.You know, I don't. I don't
have that, and I'm like,oh yeah, so she she said that
(18:45):
it was on a Roku, SoI was like, okay, and I
said, oh, so they pickedit up, so it wasn't on showtime.
I don't know if it was abudgeting issue or whatever, but it
wasn't on there. But I knowit's on Roku and I hear it's getting
you know, it's it's getting alot of a lot of good feedback.
So I'm I'm happy for the peoplewho they chose. And I a real
(19:08):
good So I mean, I don'tI don't have any any any any complaints,
you know, to be able toaudition, to audition for it was
a was a compliment. And thenI, like I said, I did
get some very good feedback on it, so I don't have no complaint.
I actually heard and I wanted toenquire when your Uh, Heather Had Live
(19:29):
Comedy will be debut on Amazon.M it's supposed to be it's in September.
Uh, no later than October. Is supposed to be a debuting on
Amazon time in October. So I'mI'm kind of excited for that. That's
huge, you know now, Uh, the platforms like Amazon, Netflix,
(19:51):
Apple TV, like that's where everybody, you know, people are pretty much
watching that. Even most people don'teven subscribe to cable anymore. It's just
those other places because you can prettymuch get everything, especially Amazon, you
know, everybody loves them, sothey are killing So that's really huge.
So I'm really excited about. Congratulations. Thank you. So is there anybody
(20:17):
either mainstream or up and coming anyindustry that you would want to work with
or any projects you have coming upthat you want to share. I'm just
coming out. Let me see,but I can say probably the only thing
I have right now is working onmy my second comedy album and working on
(20:41):
my checking my second live comedy liveshow mm hmm. And my top show
is debuting either in the September orthe first of October. It is called
Come Talk to Me. So youknow, I'm also interview or like a
lot of celebrities, So like,I want to be the first in Manhattant,
(21:03):
but I want to be like ablack Barbara Walston cause you know she
yeah, so it's like you know, she she interviewed people when it was
you know, like when you wantto be like, Okay, let me
tell you this. I was inthe process of trying to get all Keller
the interview before he went to jail. But then, you know, he
went to jail. So that's kindof because I wanted to get his side
(21:26):
of the story because it's always two, three, four of my five to
five of the story, you know, so I wanted to go ahead and
try to get that. So that'smy next big major move is to try
to you know, get get mytalk show off the ground and you know,
get with the get with the interviewprocess of things. Okay, well,
(21:48):
I mean it seems that we haveso much more that we can be
expecting from you twenty twenty and intwenty twenty one. It has been an
absolute pleasure chatting with you and justget into no, you more before we
go. Is there anything that youwould want your fans new and old to
know about you that we may nothave coverts uh to know about me?
(22:15):
Yes, that we may not haveknown. Okay, No, I think
about everything that they can know aboutme is googleble you now, yeah,
I think that's yeah, google everythingabout me is basically googleble. And like
I say, just you know, look out for the second show that I
filmed in Alabama that's going to becoming out, you know, the second
(22:37):
comedy album and the Just Talk showthat's what that's what's going to be coming
out soon. So those are actualprojects that that I have or in the
words, that be rolling out withinthe next the next six to eight weeks.
Okay, well, congratulations to youon all of your success and may
(23:00):
you continue to thrive in twenty twentyand the years to come. And it
has been an absolute pleasure of chattingwith you. Thank you, thank you.
I really appreciate it. I knowyou have I know my child has
has intervene and now I'm trying toget some gas out flies. So when
you say, right here, lookthat's what we call life. And see
(23:23):
you can multitask and you have toroll with it. Okay, you have
to roll whatever comes along. Andyou're able to do that and do it
wonderfully and still be the sb IC. So you know, thank you,
thank you, appreciated time. Byebye bye Okay,
