Speaker 2 (00:22):
What is everybody? Hey? Everyone, welcome back to another notion
of the No Before Go drops. So we've got a
show for you to day on this August afternoon. It's August.
Kids are going back to school. Football's back on fall.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Like summer, it does not fall. We still have like
one more month of summer, which is crazy though that
like summer is coming to an end. I can't believe it. It
has flown by for us.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh know, we were at Home Goods. They have the
they have their you know, Halloween stuff out.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
They had that out like almost a month ago.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
What is why? Why are they doing that?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I don't know. I love Halloween though, I love like
decorating for Halloween, and George always wants me to wait
until October, but my birthday's in September, so then I
just tell them that I'm doing it. For my birthday.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah no, but September is still September is like the
we cross the chasm in two fall, yeah, into fall.
So doing you can't have you can't have Halloween. And
I love Halloween too. I love the holidays. I did.
Halloween's one of my favorite holidays. I love it. Yeah,
but September is a little too early.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Because you can hold on the summer a little bit,
why not hold on the summer little bit longer.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I mean, I love holding onto summer.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
But yeah, but nothing. But it's been a busy summer,
so I'm ready. I'm ready for things to slow down.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Me too. But we have a lot of travel going
out the next two weeks, so it's not going to
slow down until after that.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
But yeah, it's been it's been a busy summer, but
it's a good summer. Got a lot of good content
we are dropping. So if you're today we finally drop
the Sugar Beach vlog, super excited about it. It'll be
out if you're listening to this podcast. The Sugar Beach
Vlog is live on our YouTube channel link in the description.
Check it out, because that's actually the resort we are
going to talk about this has been a highly anticipated review.

(02:01):
This is a very premium resort, not all inclusive, but
you can buy a package. So a lot to talk
about here. Yeah, very excited to get into it. And
it's it's gonna just talking about this resort and talking
about our wonderful stay there is gonna brighten my day
up because we have had nothing but rain here in Charleston.
It has been rain, rain, rain, cloudy, cloudy, cloudy, and

(02:21):
we had so much fun at Sugar Beach rained. A
little bit of Sugar Beach though too, but.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, which we'll talk about, Yeah, like going there and
what the rainy season means and all that.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, it feels good to be back in the podcast too.
You guys, if you're joined the content and you're a
longtime listener and you haven't given us a five star review,
we would love that it goes. It goes such a
long way, guys, just put some kind words there. If
you put a nice, kind note in there, we will
give you a shout out live on the pod. We'll
read the review and you guys have been absolute rock
stars because that helps the pod more. And you know, also,
if you're enjoying the content and you're learning something new

(02:51):
and you want to work with us, whereas zero zero
feed travel agency, we don't charge a nine for services
and you can work with the Caribbean Queen herself. I
do not book travel. I don't know. I don't I
don't know the booking side of things. That's Janet's expertise.
I do know my fair share about some up bars
and good food and good drinks and good experiences, so
I can share those on here.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
But you're just what we call a passenger princess, but
for travel.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
A passenger princess or prince or.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I guess prince. But you always only ever hear it
like in terms of princess. But so, yes, you are
a passenger prince in regards to travel.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Where what makes that? You got to explain this.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
I'll just show up and everything is done. You don't
know what we're doing, what airline we're flying on, where
we're necessarily going or staying. You just know that it's
handled so well.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
When you're married to a travel agent. Yeah, when this
is your this is what you do professionally. I mean,
what am I If I get involved, I'm just going
to screw screw it. Up if anything. So I just
I like giving you total control. You're the travel agent, yes,
there we go. You're the pro, You're the travel consultant
and been doing this a very long time. So who
am I to get involved and potentially screw something up?

(04:00):
I would screw something up.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yeah, I don't want you to get involved.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
And I know I know when I when I have
the potential screw something up. So I remove myself from
these situations. Uh. That way, something goes wrong, I can't
be blamed for it. But there you things don't.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Go wrong, I'll find a way to blame me.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Kidding you ar get at that too. All right, let's
roll into the episode. We are so excited to talk
about this resort that it was such a fun trip.
It kind of renewed my love for Saint Lucia. We've
always had a love for Saint Lucia, and that resort
was just I mean, we've been to a lot of
great resorts, not only in both Saint Lucia, but just

(04:35):
other Caribbean islands as well, and this this resort delivered
and I'm excited to dive into it and get to
all the nitty gritty details.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yes, so to start this. This resort is in Saint Lucia.
It's about an hour and a half from or about
an hour from the airport. Uh. There are a couple
of ways that you can get to this resort, so
you can take a transfer, which is not included with resort.
It's extra. So uh, we did a boat transfer on

(05:06):
arrival and then we took a car back. So one
thing I want to warn you is Saint Lucia is
an extremely mountainous island and the roads are very very
windy up and down. So if you are prone to
motion sickness, I would definitely recommend taking dramamine before you

(05:27):
know you're doing this. Because even so, we did the
transfer on the way back to the airport and we
both even got a little queasy in that like never happens,
so yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Like I'm not prone to it, but definitely like just
the way, just the way the Saint Lucian people drive,
It's just that they drive a little fast. There's a
lot of curves, a lot of hills, a lot of
up and down side to side, and I think like
they're just used to it, where maybe we're not used
to it. So yeah, Little Droomaine just just to be safe.
I mean we were fine, no one got sick or anything,

(05:56):
but it's like, woh, this is a little little sloshy.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah. So there is also option. So there's a ferry
service in Saint Lucia called the Fun to See Island Ferry.
Now they will drop off at Sugar Beach. So that
ferry runs once a day. The tickets start at one
hundred and forty dollars plus tax per person. That's just
for like the basic seting. So basically they time that

(06:19):
ferry after when like the last flight from the US arrives.
So then from there it would probably be about a
twenty to thirty minute ride on the ferry and then
they can drop off at the dock that's right at
the resort. Now, if you have a group of people
like we did, so we traveled with families, so there
was a total of eight of us. That wouldn't have
made sense if we wanted to take the ferry to

(06:41):
pay eight times one hundred and forty that would have
been over one thousand dollars. So the resort does also
have their own speedboats, a few of them, and they
are called Sugar Rush And so we actually did that
on arrival, and it was four hundred and fifty dollars
plus twenty percent tax for the first one to four people,

(07:02):
and then it was fifty dollars plus tax for each
additional person. And then there was a charge for the
taxi from the airport to the boat dock, which was
about one hundred bucks. So all in all it was
about eight hundred and fifty dollars, which is expensive, but
it is also kind of it's a whole excursion on
arrival kind of, and it's an experience and they gave us.

(07:25):
I requested it, and they didn't charge us for it,
so don't I don't know, but I requested it around
punch and beer on the boat and they had that there.
But it was awesome. So the speedboat took about all
over twenty minutes, and I mean that is the way
to arrive.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
It really is like a a It speeds up the experience.
It takes you right up close to the pitons. Yeah,
and it's a center console boat is what you're on,
and so that's what they call it. A speedboat goes
a lot faster than the ferry. The ferry is a
much larger boat with like interior seating Yeah, this is
more of like a more of a really island experience.
You're in a center console, you're most of the families

(08:04):
sitting there.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Our luggage, Yeah, they put our luggage on there too.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
So yeah, two motors and that thing could haul if
it wanted to. It could go a lot faster if
it wanted to. But we got there pretty quickly, and
I honestly enjoyed the ride. It was slightly like drizzed,
Like it was barely drizzling when we first showed up,
and then a larger storm was coming and it just
darted and beat the storm and we were there pretty quickily.
I think two things I love about it. One it's
an experience and two at saves time. Yeah, the like

(08:30):
we mentioned earlier, taking the car transfer van transfer just
straight from the airport to the resort would take a
lot longer. And listen, if you can swing it, it
adds to the experience. And like there's nothing more exciting
than that first day of vacation, right, So, like when
you're doing that right on the front end, before you
even get to the resort, like the vibes are really high.
You got a nice rum punch in your hand, You're

(08:51):
on a center console boat, salty airs blowing through your hair,
and you're cruising and you arrived to the resort by boat.
Are you kidding me? That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Yes, And again it's just it's kind of like an
excursion on arrival. So whether it is a group of
say eight of you or more, or if it is
just you know, two of you traveling, then take the
ferry absolutely, unless you really want to splurge and have
a private boat. But I just think that it is
the way to arrive in style and get the vacation started.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Well, the ferry take you right to the resort dock. Yes,
Oh that's so cool too. So either way, you're good.
I think you do the way, you're good. I mean
I prefer the private boat just because it's just a
little a little bit more of an elevated experience. Because
it's private, it's quicker. I mean, the ferry is going
to take a little bit longer. Yeah, very slower.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I mean I guess you would be paying for two
people for the private boat roughly, no, so it would
be about maybe five point fifty total, whereas the ferry
is about three hundred and eighteen bucks with tax i
believe you might as well do so for about two
hundred more dollars you could do the boat. So that's
actually not too bad.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
We saw like so we took the boat and then
I remember like our rooms were lying right by the
water where you see the dock. There was like a
boat that came in the next day and there's only
like two or three people on it. Yeah, so it's
the way to go. It really like, and I don't know,
just like it's you're just so excited on that first
day of travel, like getting to the resort. You're arriving
by boat. You're you're in the Caribbean, the salty Air,

(10:17):
blue water, Mountainous Island, and you're just cruising around center
console to get to your resort. It's the best.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yes, Yeah, So let's talk a little bit about the resort.
So the resort has one hundred and thirty rooms and
some of those are rooms and villas and they have
residences and they just built like a thirty five thousand
square foot house right on the beach that you can rent.
I don't know how much it is, but I would
imagine it's like over one hundred grand for a week.

(10:43):
It looked awesome.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Oh yeah, yeah, it's impressive.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
There's four dining options for dinner, plus there's one that's
being renovated. Plus they have a burger restaurant called Jetty's Burgers,
which is.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
More like an out it's like an open air bar.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
It is, yeah, like an open air sunset bar, kind
of like dock and appear. Yeah. Yeah. And I say
sunset bar just because you could see the sunsets from
there were amazing, so oh beautiful. Yes. So we all
had the beach front bungalows, and part of why we
chose those was because, again, the resort, just the island

(11:22):
is very hilly, and we're traveling with my parents and
I was a little worried about, you know, the mobility
and getting around the resort, and so I recommended this,
and I thought my parents were just gonna just do
it for them, but then they splurged and booked it
for us, so that was great. But definitely, if you
have some mobility challenges, I think that that's the resort

(11:44):
or the room category to be in because then you
can pretty much walk to everything except for the terrace restaurant.
I mean you could, but it's just a little bit
further on up a hill and you have to take
some stairs. But the butler you can call your butler,
because every room comes with a butler, every.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Single room, which I love. And this is like it
has such a boutique feel, but it's very it's I
guess spread out a little bit because like there's not
more than what a handful of rooms and under one roof, right, right,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Yeah, there's like two.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
And you can't like, like where we were, we could
barely see any other rooms other than other than our
room category of like eight or ten, or there weren't
many of those, right, beach front beach trump bungalows.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
Yeah, yeah, uh so otherwise, if you so the beach
Tromp bungalows, they are splurge, which will give you the
pricing some sample pricing on it. But otherwise, if you
want to be somewhat closer to like the main areas
of the resort, where it's not as far of a walk,
or you don't have to take a golf cart down
to the beach, or you could walk, but again it's

(12:44):
just far. The luxury room, sugar Mill luxury room, and
then the superior sugar Mill room. Those two are the
ones that are going to be like right across from
the lobby, so then those would be the next best
option for you. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, it's like a lot of the restaurants in the
beach area, it is very close to each other all
of that, but the rooms are a little further out. Yeah,
But like everything everything to do with the resort is
pretty central. The only thing that's probably a decent walk
from everything else is the burger bar. Right, that's like
I don't know, I don't have to describe, but around

(13:20):
the peninsula of the resort to the other side where
you can see both petons really well, and then they
have that that pier is just incredible. Yeah, I mean
that is I this pointed. That's the one restaurant we
didn't try was the burgers there, and everyone talked about,
like all the employees were like, oh, it's the best
burgers on the island, and we were like, oh, we
gotta try that, but we never tried it.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
Yeah, we get drinks there, no burgers. Yeah. Uh. So
we were in, like I said, the Beech Trumponglows. So
I think our room number was twenty two, and then
my brother and his family, which we were traveling, So
him and his wife and two kids, they were in

(13:58):
a two bedroom beach front bungalow, and I'll explain the
setup of that in a second. And so they were
in twenty three and twenty four, and then my parents
were in twenty five. I absolutely loved the location of
these rooms because you were like kind of at the
end of the beach, so they were somewhat private with amazing.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Views and incredible views.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Yeah, I think of all the beach front bungalows, those
were the best ones to be in for the best views.
So if you can get as close to going up
to twenty five and room numbers, I think that those
are the best options to request.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Of course. Yeah, and I think not only were the
closest to the beach, they're just the closest to everything.
Like they were just they were on the front lines
of the resort. You have the best views right there
by the beach. I mean you walk out of your
back door. They actually have back doors that double doors
that swing open. You have your own private like you
have your private swing, private table, and the beach sands

(14:54):
right there, and then you're on the beach and the
beach impressed me like it was like fluffy white sand. Yeah,
where you know, typically you think like black sand beaches
in Saint Lucia's. Somehow they had like a little the
sand was a little more fluffy, a little more white,
which I liked.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Yeah. So this resort, I think has I've said this about.
I think one other resort that I can think of off
the top of my head that has the most stunning setting,
like just like the views and everything around it, And
this has to be number one, I think, because like
it's just every day when you walked outside of your room,

(15:29):
you're just like wow, yeah, because you're in between Yeah,
you're it's set in between the Pizon Mountains and you're
at the base of one of them, and so you
just have this massive mountain and it's so like just
so green. You're in a d very Yeah, you are
in a rainforest. It's so lush and so green. The
water is crystal clear blue. Now it's not like, yeah,

(15:51):
it's not like Bahamas blue.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Yeah, it's like that bright blue, but it's just crystal clear. Yeah,
it's just like a clear It's the best way I
canna describe it. It's it's very clear. Yeah, and yeah,
rainforest is gravy to describe it, because you know it
does rain a little bit there. It's just like every
criban nile and they get their showers in the afternoons.
And like I remember walking to the spa, and the
spa is like each little spa room where you get

(16:16):
a massage, it's like a treehouse. Yes, all these treehouses.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Jumping ahead here.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
I know, I'm just saying that. Like when you're walking
in there, you can literally hear natural spring waterfalls. Yeah,
and you're just like you can't believe the environment that
you're in. It's almost like something out of a movie.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Yes. Yeah, So uh, let's get into the room setup
and kind of how that was so uh when you
walk in, you kind of walk into this is the
beach front bungalow. You walk into like a courtyard area
and they have a private plunge pool there. Yes, now
it's what like three feet deep maybe?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Yeah, it's a little splash pool. You could probably get
four to six people in there, max. And yes, it
has a little bench you can sit on. It has
a little bench she can sit on. Yea. It's probably
about three feet deep, yeah, and you can so it's
cool because you can heat it up like a hot tub,
or you can not heat it up and it'll be
cool like a pool. So it's really whatever your preference is.
I think when we got there it was already kind
of preheated, and I actually told them. I was like, hey,

(17:16):
let's just don't don't heat it. Just cut the heater off.
We'll have it.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Cool.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
Now there is so in that courtyard area, there's a
door from the front entrance and there's one out the
back towards to walk out onto the beach. Those do lock,
so you can lock them for privacy. There is also
an outdoor shower out there, and the outdoor shower is
really cool because then it had a door that connected
to your indoor shower.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Oh yeah, I love that. I did like that because
then I did use it one day. I was like,
I'm trying, might as well try it out.

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Well, yeah, and so my sister in law with the kids, like,
she would start to you know, get them rinsed off
and like and just walk right into the shower.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Yeah. Yeah, you can do that from the beach. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
So that was nice. So the room was extremely spacious,
very very comfortable, king bed.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
It was massive, room. It was like a thousand square
feet I feel.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Like, yeah, I think it was eleven hundred. Yeah, it
felt that was double vanities. It had a massive soaking
tub for two in the middle. There was also like
a closet area off to the side where they had
like a small little kitchenette with a fridge and snacks.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
It had beer, wine liquors in there. Yeah, like they
swanked it out.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
And the beer that they put in your room is
included every day. And then they put some bottles of
water in there for you that is also included. And
then they will give you water bottle, refillable water bottles
that you can use at different stations throughout the resort.

Speaker 2 (18:39):
Yeah, which we did. They were like the nice metal
water bottles and you can take them home with you
as well.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
And then like George said, great outdoor space overlooking the beach,
there was a day bed out there. There was a
hammock kind a table with two chairs. So amazing room.
So my brother his family set up so they had
a two bedroom. So they were traveling with two kids,
ages seven and ten, and at first I think there

(19:05):
were a little nervous about the room setup. So the
way that the two bedroom beachfront bungalow is is you
walk into like the courtyard area, and then on the
right you have the one room that's just set up
just like what we described, uh, and that's so like
I guess, like the master suite or whatever. And then
on the other side of the courtyard so separate entrance

(19:28):
is another setup which the room was similar, but I
think she said it didn't have the tub, I believe,
And so the kids slept over there. You know, everything
you can lock you know from the outside, but it
was technically a separate building.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah, so like to just yeah, to give you a
little more context of like a visual of this.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
And they have the pool in the middle.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
So you have like a doorway that lets you into
the courtyard and you have to use your key to
the get to even get into your courtyard, you have
to use the key. Yes, so your whole courtyard's private.
So that's the two So you swipe your key, it
unlocks the door. You shut the door behind you, so
now you're in your private courtyard that no one can
get in with the key. And then there's two buildings
one of the left on the right, and that's your
two bedrooms. Yes, so there's separate buildings, shared courtyard, nice.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
Pool, and there was a king bed in each so
they kids share the king ben So yeah it worked out. Yes, yeah,
it worked out. So I think that's kind of like
the overall setup of the rooms anything else. I mean,
I love the room like individually controlled air conditioning that
there were no restrictions on how low you could put it,

(20:34):
and well I understand why I'm mentioning that on a
future podcast, but yeah, that was fabulous.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Yeah, and like it had vaulted ceilings, so it had
like the exposed wood ceilings like very traditional Caribbean feel.
Everything's painted white though, so they did a good job
mixing in like the modernization of like you know, recess
lighting and things like that with the traditional like Caribbean
feel because it's still very it felt very authentic Caribbean
with some monit amenities with which is kind of the
best of both worlds that I look for. Yeah, and

(21:03):
this whole resort, like I guess like we can parlay
this conversation right into the vibe of the resort because
the rooms having the hammock on the outside and how
chill it was, it really is like the whole vibe
of the resort is very laid back, very quiet, very relaxing.
It is not a resort that you're going to stay

(21:23):
up super late at I don't think.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
No, I do want to say the oh, like pretty
much all of the rooms were renovated when they were
closed during COVID, So just want to pint that out,
Oh let's go. But yeah, yeah, yeah, total vibe of
this resort is you know, very chill, relaxing. At first,
I was a little worried that the kids might not
have enough to do, even though like they have an

(21:45):
amazing kids club, but the kids stayed busy, like all
day every day. There were tons of other kids there too,
so they made a few friends, and they were playing
just on the beach and in the water. And in
the water they had like a big champoline setup, a
slip in slide for kids. Yeah, like lots of different
floats and so I mean the kids just had a

(22:07):
ball playing on the beach and in the ocean every day.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Oh my gosh. Yeah. And so although so we've you know,
we are we love the adult only experience, so we
a lot of the resorts that we always recommend adults
only if you're traveling just as adults. However, I have
to say with this resort, it is family friendly. There
were a lot of kids there, didn't even deter my
experience at all whatsoever. Like I would still if you're

(22:30):
just like an like, this resort is still great for
an anniversary, great, great for a honeymoon. So like this
is kind of the one exception to the rule that
we've experienced. Whre I'm like, yeah, kids are there, but
for a honeymoon, this still still be perfect, yes, and
like and it's kind of like you have to I
know for those that are big adult only fan for
experiences adult only resort fans, I don't know, like we

(22:53):
are too, we are too. Yeah, I feel you, like
we love if you're going to go as adults, just
have an adult only experience, but this I don't know
this this resort, although it does allow kids, like maybe
they just were like entertaining themselves, and like, I don't know,
it's just that quiet where it didn't feel rowdy.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Yeah, I think it's you know, it was it has
more of a sophisticated feel to the resort. So I
think that maybe you know that place behind that but yeah,
it's very high inn and so I like to tell people,
you know, when I have people who are really interested
in staying at Jade Mountain or sat or Ladera, which
both are absolutely amazing, fabulous adult only options. But the

(23:34):
rooms are open air, so that is quite the you know,
unique experience, and some.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
People you gotta do it once.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Yeah, yeah, it was awesome when we did it, But
some people you know, don't necessarily want to try that.
That's a little too out there for them. And also,
depending on the time of year you go, you know,
it can be really hot. So I always then recommend
this resort as an alternative because you still get the
same luxurious at my sphere and feel, but you can

(24:01):
have a room with air conditioning.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Yeah. This resort is where like luxury, authenticity and the
Caribbean all collide. Yeah, And it is on the scale
of like one being mega chill relaxing and ten being
like the Reeu Palace party vibe. This is like a
two on the scale. It's very low. It's very relaxing,

(24:25):
very chill.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
Yeah, but every night they did have you know, some
sort of entertainment going.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
On, oh for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like but I
don't know, like for those, because you know there's some
couples that'll go and families will be like, hey, I
like I like on vacation, I like to stay up
till two three am. You know, we met some of
those on the Virgin Poyage cruises. They're like, yeah, we
stay out super late on vacation, and like that would
not be a place, Like you might not enjoy Sugar
Beach that much because if you like to stay out
super late. I don't even know that resort's pretty much

(24:52):
shut down at ten pm. I mean, I don't know. Yeah,
one of the little one of the bars might be open, obviously,
but it's just very relaxing.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I don't think we ever
stayed up past ten pm, but I'm wrong about that.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Maybe some areas of resort did stay lively late, but.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
I don't, No, I don't think so. I mean it
was pretty winding down, pretty good by the time you
know we went to bed.

Speaker 2 (25:12):
So like, you're right, they did have great entertainment night.
I don't want to discount the entertainment. It's just like
not like it's not a party.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
Five No, No, it's not a party five. But we
were there over the fourth of July and they had
like a rock band that played a bunch of you know,
just American hits, old American rock hits.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
They had a beach grill going, which they do once
a week, and then they do the beach grill thing
once a week, but during the fourth of July week
they did an American beach grill where they had like
hot dogs, burgers, wings, all the smart on the yeah
cob yeah, which I thought was really cool that they
kind of celebrated. And they did the fireworks show as well, Yes.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Yep, And they had fireworks which was awesome. And then
another evening for entertainment, they had a live steel jump
band and that was awesome, and then they had like
a live musician, like a saxophonist up in that near
the Saltwood restaurant. So yeah, but you know, nothing like
super crazy. I'll just you know, kind of chill, you know,

(26:10):
super chill.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
So let's talk about food and drink prices and whether
or not the all inclusive package is worth it. But
before we do that, let's get in a quick commercial
break and we will be right back thirty seconds.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
Be our back, all right, we are back. Yeah, this
is a big one because you know, I think a
lot of our listeners love the adults only and all
inclusive experience. This is this is family friendly and it's
not an all inclusive although they do have a package,
and so you can upgrade to an all inclusive package,
which we did. Yes, so we can tell you is
it worth it is it not worth it? Which can

(26:45):
give you our opinion on it. I mean some people
depends on how much you drink. There's a lot of
factors will give you our take on it from very
very very experienced travelers in this realm.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
Yes, So to start, depending on how you book your package,
you may or may not have the breakfast included. So
that's just one thing that you need to be aware of. Now,
if you do book a room that has buffet breakfast
included and you know nothing else, you're not doing the
all inclusive package, that's great because otherwise the buffet breakfast
is fifty dollars a person, so that's kind of expensive.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Yeah, and I think like this resort, the price what
you're paying, and like the level of luxury you're getting,
that's probably it is expensive, but might not be that
uncommon you know, just giving right in the category resort
that we're playing in.

Speaker 3 (27:30):
Well, yes, And I just want to say, when you
are at a resort like this anywhere in the world,
you know, it's a captive audience because where else are
you going to go like here. It's not like you
can just walk right out of the resort to like
a restaurant, you know, down the street Aruba or something,
you know. So yes, so it's you know, they it's

(27:51):
a captive audience and they know that. So the pricing is,
you know, a little bit more expensive. But I thought,
because we looked at the menu prices of everything, I
did think that it was somewhat you know reasonable. So,
like I said, breakfast fifty dollars a person for the
buffet breakfast. Now lunch, we ate lunch on the beach
or at the pool every day. They had a nice
menu for it. So, uh, you had sushi one day,

(28:14):
I think, and it was like the menu said it
was twenty eight bucks. And yeah, and then I had
a pizza one day and a burger and those were
like roughly like in oat chicken tacos and those were
roughly like twenty bucks each.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
It's just a bad considering you know, no.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
It's not that that's yeah, it's not that bad. Drinks
and cocktails most of them were about fifteen dollars a person,
so not too bad. Wine. The house wine was twelve
dollars a person.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Not bad considering where you're at, right, Yeah, and the
quality it was really good quality.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
Yeah. So dinners were you know, you could get appetizers
whatever included if you're on the All Inclusive plan otherwise
or not otherwise, but the meals at the dinner meals
at the restaurants range anywhere from like thirty to sixty
dollars on average.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
O think I've got some menus that'll be on the vlog. Yeah,
so you can see some of the menus and stuff
and what it looks like.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
And yeah, so the All Inclusive package it's three hundred
and sixty dollars per adult per night and then one
eighty per kid per night. Now, I've had several because
I've quoted it a few times since we've been back,
I've had sal people say I just don't think that
we would eat that much, or like my kids would
eat that much. You know, you just kind of have

(29:36):
to release it down and think it like you are
you going to drink enough for that? Now, I will
say with the kids, like they were able to get
a virgin dakerise and virgin Pina Colada.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Oh yeah, like the fun little kid mocktail drinks or whatever. Yeah,
like the island drinks for the kids.

Speaker 3 (29:51):
Yeah yeah. And so once you factor like they got
a couple of those every day, and sodas and then
bottled water too. Bottled water a small one was five dollars,
So once you kind of factor all of that in,
I definitely think it was worth it. And I thought
it was just nice. Then you already knew the price
it was paid before you got there, and then you

(30:12):
didn't have to worry about anything else. Now, we still
did bring cash and tip on top of that, which
I would recommend, so but for me, I definitely I
think that it was worth it. Now, one of the restaurants,
so Saltwood Restaurant, they give you like a one twenty
five per person stipend, so basically you could spend up
to that because it's their fine dining restaurant, and then

(30:34):
anything over that would be additional, which I think our
party of eight only ended up spending like fifty dollars.
More Over, it like it wasn't much at all.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
It nearly covers the whole thing, and we had wine
and stuff like that too. The you know, my take
on all that is, if you're going to go to
a resort like this and you run the math and
you feel like you're closed, just do it. Like just
the shear enjoyment and relaxation of not even worrying about it,
not caring how much it is because it's already prepaid for,
adds to the experience in our opinion. Yeah, I mean

(31:06):
that's how I feel about it now. I feel like,
if you run the math, you're like, hey, I only
I'm probably just gonna have maybe one drink with dinner,
then maybe it's not worth it, right, But if you're
gonna have maybe a beach cocktail or two, you have
a glass of wine, a couple glass of wines at dinner,
and you're gonna you know, you know, you like to
do that, then that's where the math really maths for you.
And then just just do it and then not worry
about it, like just have the the fully relaxed experience

(31:29):
of not caring, and that I think that helps. Yes, obviously,
if you're not a huge drinkers might not like you
don't have to be a huge drinker, but if you
if you literally just have one or you don't drink
at all, then maybe not worth it.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
But if you're gonna have like throughout the day plus
maybe a few mocktails, then then yeah that's worth then Yeah,
I think it's worth it. So a couple of things.
The Jetty's Burger Place is not included as a part
of the all inclusive package. We did see the menu.
The burgers were like twenty bucks.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Everyone said, how great these Everyone kept saying, is the
best burger on the island, best burgo in the island.
I'm kicking myself for not trying it. I kind of
wish we would have, but oh well, yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
Now they did have some like more higher end cocktails
on a few of the menus that weren't included that
you would have had a pay additional for. And then
my brother accidentally walked up to the bar and ordered
a bourbon that wasn't included. I think it was Buffalo
Trace and I want to say it was like twenty
bucks or something like that. So you just have to know.

(32:27):
But they will give you a full list of you
know exactly what liquors are included and what you can
have as a part of the inclusive package. And what
they do is they actually charge everything to you and
then they zero it out and then they bring you
like the check, so then you can your check says
zero and then you can tip on top of that.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
So yeah, yeah, no, I thought that, like, I'm glad
we did it. I'm glad we had the inclusive experience
there again, run the math both ways. It's a personal decision.
I'm glad we did it, and it just kind of
it kind of helps you kick your feet up a
little bit higher in my opinion, just kick you feet up.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Yes, a couple of cool things that they did, like
in the evenings that was included whether you had the
all inclusive package or not. They set up smore stations,
which that wasn't just popular for.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
The kids like the adults were.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Adults were yeah, vibing on that, making s'mores every night
or they did it. I think they had it like
three times a week, but that was cool. And then
also they walked around during the day with different flavors
of popsicles that you could get, which was a nice
touch if you're out there laying on the beach and
it's hot and you know, you want to get something

(33:33):
to cool you down, And they didn't charge anything for
that either. That was included. So I thought that those
were some nice touches that were just included, no matter
whether you had the package or not.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Yeah, I think that kind of added to like the
high end, luxury elevated experience. Like I love that we
had like cold towels, Like we were just sitting on
the beach and they come by, here's a cold towel
and you can just like and it was hot, you
just like rub your face down, put it over your neck,
and they just walk up and just here you go.
The same thing with the ice pops did frozen fruit.
I think one day they came out with some fruit
and it's just like the little added attention to detail

(34:05):
that kind of gives you an enhanced experience a little bit.
I thought it was just just perfect. Yes, Yeah, I
guess overall, might be good time to talk about the
service level at this resort. I mean, the service was,
I mean fantastic. One of the things that we hadn't
seen at many resorts that this resort did I thought
was unique, but now we're starting to seal a little more.
Is the flags on the beach chairs. So talk about

(34:26):
the flag system on the beach chairs and explain what
that is to everybody.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
So we haven't experience this too much because we typically
travel to mostly all inclusive resorts and they don't have this,
but I wish they would and they should, they need to.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
But they have the last song inclusive we went to
had it. No, No, it wasn't all inclusive, right, right, Okay,
they do know.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
They don't offer a package. But yeah, So basically, if
you are lounging in your beach chair, which by the way,
the resort was that like, very high occupancy when we
were there, and there was no issue getting beach chairs
or chairs around the pool, which the pool is a
little bit smaller, which we'll talk about, but it was
totally adequate in size, but tons of beach chairs. We

(35:09):
never had a problem with finding available beach chairs. But
they have flags like attached to your beach chair and
then you just you know, put that down like raise
it in front of you, and so it lets the
staff know that you want them to come over yep
and take your order. You want a drink or you
want food, and they were always like super quick to

(35:30):
do that. So it was really nice to have and
I think more resorts need to do that.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Oh yeah, it was nice because like sometimes like sometimes
you're just chill and listen to a podcast or reading something,
you might not want the server to come by. This
like this indication lets the server know, Hey, I want service,
I want something to beverage, something to eat. Yeah, so
I'd like a server to come over. And and then
it helps server out too because the server doesn't have
to feel like they're going around bothering people. They can
just see if someone needs them and they can go

(35:56):
over and give them prompt attention. So we put the
flag up and the guy was over there within a minute.
It felt like like they were right there on you.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
Yes, yeah, absolutely, and they had tons of servers walking around.
The beach was very I mean it was a good
sized beach. Now it is public, so I do want
to mention that.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
It's public, but it does feel extremely private just because
like it's not easily accessible by the public at all.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Right, it's not easily accessible by the public, but like
people you're staying at Ladera who Ladera is like up
the mountain, like kind of back behind Sugar Beach, but
just way up the mountains.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
Another high end resort too, Yeah, very high end resorts.

Speaker 3 (36:34):
It's Adultimately, they have all open air, so they will
shuttle their guests down to this beach.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
And they're off to the side of the side. I
don't like the beach chairs and the huts are only
for the resort for.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Sugar Beach, yes, yes, yeah, and then the beach actually,
so if you're in front of the main part of
the resort, so that's like the main beach, but then
there's also a separate beach if you just walk down around,
like let's if you're facing the ocean from the main
part of the resort, down around that like hill down
to the left, there's a whole other beach back there

(37:09):
that's way more private that like really nobody can get
to except for a resort guests.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah, that's that's pretty much private. It doesn't get bigger
waves because it faces more of the open ocean.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
The main beach is more of like a I don't
call it a lagoon, it's just it's kind of as
like a bowl, a little half bowl and for whatever reason,
the waves aren't nearly as bad, like there's harling waves
you could.

Speaker 3 (37:29):
Yeah, I mean, but yeah, yeah, but both are like
very calm, like yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
But their waves are slightly bigger on those other quote
unquote private beaches that are near the beach bar the
place get the burds.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
Yes, yeah, now, but yeah, most of the other resort
and people that came to the beach, they were like
they stayed off to the side. And then there's a
couple like local vendors there selling like souvenirs and stuff.
Love love love the beach here. The pool, I would say,
as far as like the size of it goes, I
don't really know what to compare it to, but like

(38:03):
it was totally adequate. There was probably like what twenty
twenty five chairs around it. Plus they had cabanas that
you could rent, and we did rent a cabana one day,
and I think it had a TV in it, right,
I had.

Speaker 2 (38:17):
A TV, and I had like a fridge, and you
had like beverages. You had an assigned server which would
come by and check on you, which thought was great.
You could order food. Yeah, it was nice because it
was protected. I think was there a fan in it.
There may have been a fan, yes, I believe so,
it's all you got a bunch of shade there. It
was nice. It was really nice. And if you're gonna
hang out by the pool all day, and you know
you're gonna hang out the pool a day, that's a
good one. The one thing I wish this resort had,

(38:39):
and I think all Caribbean resorts just need to do it,
is just have a swim up bar. I don't know why,
Like you can still maintain a very chill vibe and
just have a nice little swam up bar or something
to grab a cocktail and float in the pool. And
you know, I think both the resort we were just
at in Aruba needed one, which we'll do a full
review on that resort later. But you have so much

(39:01):
content and this resort, though, I think, definitely could have
used one as well. And I think they could have
done in a very elegant and beautiful way. Because there
was a bar right there you could kind of extended
a little bit and then just have a little hut
and that would be cool. That's my personal preference. I'm
being a little picky. I'm being a little picky there. Yeah,
I don't think everyone cares about it as much as
as me. I'm special though, I'm unique, I guess.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
Yeah. But it was definitely super chill. So the cabana
cost was four hundred and fifty dollars and then that
came with like beers, waters, some sodas, and a bottle
of I think if a Champagne or rose something about. Yeah.
So one cool thing.

Speaker 2 (39:35):
I was about to say this. I was to say this,
this is the most unique thing I've ever seen in
a pool.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
I know, like I just remembered it, and I'm glad
I did.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
But because we're sitting there above the water and there's.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
No you can't you can't hear any music, but you
feel like you can hear, like something in the distance.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
There's like a beat going off. You can kind of hear.

Speaker 3 (39:52):
Yeah, And so they want to maintain that the pool
is you know, super chill, very chill environment. So when
you go underwater, they're playing music underwater in the pool.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
Yeah, our nieces were swimming, they had their goggles on.
They kept going underwater and back up, and you and
I were just sitting in the pool and they kept
coming up saying, I hear music. I hear music down there.
I hear music and there and we're like, what are
you talking about? But we could kind of hear a beat.
We're like, we didn't know where it was coming from.
And then so we dunked our head and sure enough, Yeah,
they have speakers down there playing music under the water,
which was pretty freaking cool. Yes, yeah, it was never

(40:27):
seen anything like that, so that was kind of a
neat little touch.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (40:29):
Yeah, so I would say over all, the pools great.
I think it does need a swim up bar. The
service was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (40:35):
You actually need you don't need it because I mean
they're coming around constantly.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
And then you can go to that bar. There's that
bar that's covered that is attached to the restaurant that's
open air. You can go grab a beverage from that
as well. There was a bartender there. I don't know,
I'm just you know me, I'm picky. Another thing about
that bar, and I like the TV's up there too.
So yeah, if there was a sports game on or
something that you really wanted to catch your traveling in
the fall, you want to watch your college football team,
they can probably put that up there for you.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
Yes, yes, So activities. So, first off, this area of
Saint Lucia, there's a ton of things to do off property.
If you want to hike the pitons, you can. We
did not do it on this trip. We have done
in the past though, And like there's a drive in Volcano.
There's like tons of great like ATVs. There's ziplining right

(41:23):
next to the resort or basically just off the beach.
There's amazing snorkeling. Amazing, Yes, and they actually bring snorkel
trips to this area because the snorkling is so good.
Snorkeling's totally included and you don't even have to make
a reservation. You just walk up to the water sports
desk and tell me you want to go snorkeling. And
there's no time limit either.

Speaker 2 (41:43):
Did you give you gear and you snorkel off the beach.
You just walk out off the beach and you start shorkling.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
Yeah. And we saw an octopus, tons of amazing fish,
tons of fish that some people said they saw turtles.

Speaker 2 (41:56):
Like.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
The snorkeling was absolutely amazing, and it's it's all included
and you don't have to pay anything extra for that.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
And you know another thing I like about there how
they have it set up there is like and I'm
so glad it's so close to the resort because I
think a lot of people would would snorkel, but a lot
of people don't want to do the whole, Like get
in a boat, schedule it, sign up, and then you
drive off ten fifteen minutes, and then you jump in
the water and then you get back on the boat
the whole like, you know, it kind of kills the

(42:23):
chill vibe when you have to do that, and then
then you're stuck out there. Let's say you don't want
to come back in and they're stuck out there for
an hour, right, you know the way they do it,
And they're lucky because beautiful snorkeling around the beach. Just
grab and go whenever you want and stay out as
long as you want. That's the way to do it.

Speaker 3 (42:36):
Yeah, no, I love it now. They also had some
other They had like paddle boards, I can't remember if
there was a charge for those, and kayaks, and then
they had water skiing there that was an additional charge.
And then they had tubing which the kids did. Yeah,
our nieces and my brother and his wife did the tubing.
And I want to say, it was like twenty bucks
twenty five dollars a person, and they took it out

(42:59):
for a while.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
They were out there in the deep water too. I
mean it was a yeah, I've got video of that.
I think i'll I think I'll include that in the
vlog or is it in vlog? I don't know, have
to look, I don't know if that's in the vlog
or not.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
Yeah, but what we might not need to like show,
but so that they had fun. I mean they were
out there for at least thirty minutes, so.

Speaker 2 (43:17):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, it was cool. It was cool.
I would say, like, you know, Saint Lucia in general
is great for active couples, active families. Hiking the pitons
is right there. There's lots to do just right around
the resort in Saint Lucia. The gym, So speaking of
active couples, the gym, I was very, very very impressed with.
I give the gym an a. I thought it was

(43:38):
more than an adequate size for the size resort. Probably
big for the size of the resort. Yeah, the resort
is only what one hundred hundred thirty rooms, one hundred
and thirty rooms. This this gym had everything, and we
all know not everybody goes to the gym. Yeah, and
so we would go and there would be hardly anybody
in there. Yeah, which was nice. A lot of freeways,
squat racks, you know, plenty plenty of cardio equipment as well.

(43:59):
None of that. To a little little detail at this
gym that I've never seen before that I really like,
is you when you're leaving the gym, they have a
refrigerator with cold towels. Oh yeah, it's cold, wet towels
and they got this refrigerat. It's almost a freezer. They're
so cold. And so when you're leave in the gym,
you're a little sweaty and hot and it's humid in
the Caribbean. You grab one of those ice cold towels

(44:21):
and just wipe your face down before you go to
your room. Oh my god, that was pleasant. Yes.

Speaker 3 (44:26):
Or pro tip if you are walking, say to and
from the main restaurant, like for breakfast or lunch, or
if you're at Saltwood, which is you know up and
near the lobby, and you know, all all of the
restaurants are open air, so that is something that you
need to note. Except for the cane bar that is
currently under construction, even.

Speaker 2 (44:47):
Though when we were there they're renovating.

Speaker 3 (44:48):
They're renovating it, but there was literally like going there.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yeah that is indoors, and I think it's indoors. Yeah,
I think the fine dining one. On days where it's
super hot, they can shut all those There's there's a
waiting close.

Speaker 3 (44:59):
The dining restaurant too, Okay, yeah, yeah there is. But
so if you're walking, you know, two there from there
and you're like, gosh, I'm like, I'm hot, I need
to cool down, just pop into the gym because.

Speaker 2 (45:10):
It's one of those grab one.

Speaker 3 (45:12):
Of those ice cold towels. It's in the fridge right
on the left. As soon as you walk in. They
also have ice cold water that you can fill your
water bottle, your usible water bottle up in there and
being butter boom.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
You're going to go.

Speaker 3 (45:24):
You're good to go.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
You know. I did like their coffee shop too.

Speaker 3 (45:27):
Yeah, the coffee shop is good. That's not included as
part of the all inclusive.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
We got lattes and yeah, lattes Americanos. They have ice cream.

Speaker 3 (45:35):
I say, we paid like what fifteen twenty bucks.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
It was fine. It wasn't overpriced. I thought it was
out of It was just what I would expect at
a resort. It wasn't like order or anything, you know,
but it's nice to have that. I don't know why,
I like have a little coffee shop. Maybe all of
these resorts you kind of have breakfast, Go grab a coffee,
go back to the room.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
They do also have in there. So let's say, if
you don't do the all inclusive package, you can go
in there and buy bottles of wine, and you can
buy beer and they have liquor in there as well
that you can buy.

Speaker 2 (46:04):
And the one was just counted. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
Yeah, so you know, if again, if you're not doing
all inclusive package, you can go in there get some
stuff to have like right in your room. You know,
if you will see if you don't eat like a
whole lot you put could probably get away with having
like the breakfast buffet and then like splitting lunch and
then having you know, some stuff put in the room
and then paying for dinner.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
Yeah. You know, another thing too that we haven't talked
about to is kind of as I was thinking, I
was just walking around the resort, the Wi Fi there
was really good for something that's like in the jungle
and the rainforest. Like, the Wi fi was great everywhere
we went, and I think we're gonna start talking about
that more as we have been in some resort where
the WiFi is not good. Yeah, and it's aggravating, especially
when you're running businesses and you have to sometimes make
a phone call or just stay connected when you have

(46:48):
really poor Wi Fi. It is frustrating. And on cruises
with that allat of Virgin Voyages their their high speed
package wasn't even that fast anyways, Now I needed I digress. Yeah,
we're not here to talk about Virgin Voyage's WiFi, but
we have been to plenty of places where I'm like
they could do better here this one like at the beach,
wherever you were, WiFi was great. You're always connected if

(47:09):
you need it. If you want to disconnect, just put
that phone in airplane mode and that Oh my god,
I would love to be able to do that. Yeah,
so put an airplane mode and say forget about it
real quick.

Speaker 3 (47:17):
We'll talk about the SPA. So the Rainforest SPA definitely
recommend you scheduling a visit there now if you have
mobility challenges and you cannot climb stairs, then this is
not the spa for you because everything you have to
it's up and down a lot of stairs because, like
George said earlier, a lot of like the individual treatment

(47:41):
rooms are like tree huts, which is they really are.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
They are like where you change the locker room where
you change, like a tree hut. Yeah, and like the
showers are outside in the tree hut. Yes.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
And so we booked an eighty minute massage I think,
and it was absolutely amazing.

Speaker 2 (47:57):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (47:58):
Cost this was a little more pricey than like a
regular like all all inclusive resorts SPA. I want to
say it was like five hundred and something five point
fifty maybe for the massage, and then we did have
to pay to have the treatment in the same room.
They charged an additional like twenty bucks, which that's whatever,

(48:20):
but that's what they charged. So but absolutely love the spa.
It was amazing. I would highly highly recommend that. So
a couple other things I want to mention, so I
think we said it earlier. Every single room comes with
butler service. So if you're wondering, like what can the
butler do for me here? So like if you need

(48:40):
anything for the room, like we ordered some bottles of
wine for our rooms. We ordered a bottle of liquor
for the room one day, or my dad did. You
can just request all of that through your butler and
she will do that. Just anything that you need for
the room, you know, they will do that for you.
Or if you want like spa treatment scheduled. They'll also

(49:02):
help with dining as well. But you can make dining
reservations up to twelve weeks in advance before arrival, and
because we were a group of eight, I went ahead
and made them in advance. But otherwise they still had
plenty of availability. You know, once we were there, the
butler will also come and pick you up. So let's say,
if you are, like we were all the way at

(49:23):
the very end of the beach, if you wanted her
to pick you up and take you up to, say,
like the fine dining restaurant so you wouldn't have to walk,
Or if you're up, say in one of the villas
that's like up in the mountains, you can call them
and then she will come and pick you up and
take you to where you need to go, and then
they will also bring you back to your room.

Speaker 2 (49:42):
Yeah, which was really it's really great for those that
do have the mobility challenges that you can call the
butler and arrange some of this stuff to get you
around the resort. Now, fortunately we were beachfront, which you
are kind of close to everything, but there are some
rooms that are, you know, less expensive than the beachfront
that are up there in the hill in the meeting,
but their rooms are amazing. The rooms are amazing. You

(50:03):
have great views, but you're gonna need if you have
any sort of mobility times, you'd probably be beneficial if
you'd just call the butler, make sure it's a range,
don't walk up and it's hilly. I mean, Saint Lucian
General is a very mountainous island and so the resort
kind of reflects that as well.

Speaker 3 (50:16):
Yes, yeah, so a couple of like tips that you
know I would recommend. Definitely I would bring some bug spray.
But they do include that in the room, which is
really nice. Yep, because not every resort does.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
But they have had the restaurants too, which is good.

Speaker 3 (50:33):
So if you at the restaurants and then you're you're
in the rainforest.

Speaker 2 (50:36):
So yeah, they're part of the experience.

Speaker 3 (50:38):
It's buggy, it can be buggy at night, so just
know that. UH. Now arriving, so when coming into Saint Lucia,
and this stands for no matter what resort you're going to, UH,
they do have a fast track through immigration. Now, we
did not do that because what I would recommend that
you do is I looked at the flight arrival times

(50:59):
and so we were on a flight from Charlotte and
we were arriving before the Miami flight, Atlanta flight, and
New York flight, and so when we got off the plane,
there was no line. We got right through immigration. So
we didn't necessarily need the fast track. Now, let's say
if you're on that flight that's going to be the

(51:19):
last one arriving, you might want the fast track because
get it. Yeah, I mean those by the time those
and you also with the one with our flight, if
it would have been delayed, then we would have been
at the back and not had a fast track. So
but we did not do it this time. But you
can purchase it. It's sixty eight dollars per person. So

(51:39):
if you are going to be say you're booked on
the flight that's gonna arrive like at the last one
of those, then I would probably recommend that now this airport,
just to be quite frank with you, kind of sucks
for when you're coming home.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
The island has outgrown the airport.

Speaker 3 (51:56):
They need to bulldoze it and build.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
A massive, a massive, triple, quadruple to size. But it
is a bit chaotic, especially on the departure area. Yeah, arrivals,
not so much the departures, which you have to worry
about because that's where everyone's kind of packed in there.
It hasn't changed since we honeymoon there, and that's been
a long time in that thirteen years ago. The amount
of tourism that probably Saint Lucia's seen in the growth
over the last thirteen fifteen years is probably significant, if

(52:21):
I had to guess, because I can just feel it
every time we go. It's busier and busier and busier.

Speaker 3 (52:25):
Basically when we went, when we first went to Saint
Lucia back in twenty twelve, there was like one flight
a day from Miami, and then I think like one
from New York and that was pretty much it. Maybe
in Atlanta, but now you have Charlotte, you have multiple
from the New York area. Caribbean, yeah, and then inner Caribbean.
You probably from Miami a day. No, there's none from Mexico, okay,

(52:49):
and then seasonally like Dallas and Chicago have directs too,
so wow, it can be a very crazy airport. So
they have a departure lounge of if you have Priority pass,
you can get this at a discount. But if you
don't have Priority pass, you can pay for the departure
lounge and it's good. It allows you to be in
there for three hours. It's thirty eight dollars per person,

(53:12):
and it's free drinks, free snacks, and free Wi Fi
in there while you wait for your flight home. The
snacks are not that great, to be honest with you.
I just enjoy it, and we've done it every time
we've been to Saint Lucia the last few times, just
because it's a much quieter place to chill with chairs
and it's just way better than the cluster that is

(53:35):
the main departure area. So definitely would recommend that purchasing that.

Speaker 2 (53:39):
So, yeah, it might feel like a splurge, but I'm
telling you sometimes it's best to pay for the experience
and that departure. I mean, it's not a need to have,
but it's a very, very very very nice to have.

Speaker 3 (53:51):
So we paid for it for us, and then we
left the day before my family and then my rest
of my family left the day after us, and when
they were there, they didn't buy it. When they were there,
my dad sent me a text and said, this airport
is a cluster f so you should have it. Yes, Now,
a couple of other things. So all of the flights
there you land, and you land on the tarmac, You

(54:14):
board and get off the plane on the tarmac, so
you do have to climb stairs. So if you do
have mobility challenges and that could be difficult for you,
you can request the service through the airline to help
you with that. Now, hopefully they will eventually build a

(54:35):
new airport where like it's just gates and you don't
have to go outside. But you know, we'll see so
as far as like time of year to go. So
Saint Lucia is great year.

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Round, typically outside, typically slightly on the edge of the
hurricane belt, right.

Speaker 3 (54:50):
Yes, so I mean they can get hurricanes. They got
scraped by Barrel last year, but it is on the
more southern Caribbean end.

Speaker 2 (54:58):
So you know, l sounds like an aggressive name for
a hurricane too, Yes, I know it sounds spelled like
the barrel like I'm describing it as, but a hurricane
barrel sounds terrifying.

Speaker 3 (55:10):
Yeah, so the now now you oh.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
Now you often it's terrible.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
But no, so time of year, so June through November
is technically the rainy season. Uh, and it is you know,
the more like humid and warm season. But don't let
that deter you as far as rainy season goes, because
like typically it's a pop up shower for like ten
fifteen minutes and then it goes away. And that's exactly

(55:40):
what we experienced when we were just there.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Yeah. You know, you have clients all the time that
like look at the weather and they like start to
panic about the Caribbean and like, I mean almost every
day there's going could be a chance of showers, especially
those that might not live near the coast or maybe
live like more like Middle America Midwest. They don't see
showers all the time time, like you know, the coast does, right,
I mean, these storms can just pop up out of nowhere,

(56:04):
but they usually come and go really quickly, and in
the islands in the Caribbean, and they call it liquid sunshine.

Speaker 3 (56:08):
Yes, yeah, absolutely, So I wouldn't let that deter you
at all. It's still a great time to go. So
price wise, your best time to go is going to
be September through December, not over a holiday. High season
is going to be January through April. Everybody's trying to
get out of the cold and go south, so that's

(56:29):
why it's more expensive. And then May it usually drops
down a little bit. And then you know, it is
a little bit more expensive for summer travel because you
know lots of people are traveling for summer. But to
give you an idea on pricing, so I believe this
was for next summer. A starting price was eleven oh
five per night, including all taxes, and that was with

(56:50):
the buffet breakfast included. And then the beachfront bungalow was
two thousand dollars per night.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
Oh yeah, I mean this resort is not budget it's
it's a high it's going to skew higher. It's an
elevated experience, though it's unique experience. I would say about
the pricing at this resort, if it is on the
high end of your budget, like if this is like
a like a little more than you would normally spend,
maybe look at it for something special. I think it's

(57:17):
a very special place if it's something that you know
you wanted to. Like, let's just say, like your kids
are a little older and this is like a multi
generational place and you I think that's also a good
spot for it is take that one big family trip
that you've been wanting to. It's a great place to
take even kids as well. Yeah. I mean our our

(57:38):
nieces are ages like ten, seven and ten, and they
had an absolute blast, like kind of it's going to
create memories that they'll remember forever.

Speaker 3 (57:46):
Yes, we always kept saying core memories.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
Definitely core memories for the kids and and us too.
You know we were having we were having fun too.
Very special place, like just like the it's the feel
of the resort being so close to the giant pitons
and like one of the pitons just right off the resort.
It like really just comes and so like everywhere you
are on the resort, you look up and you see
this beautiful mountain it with trees all over it and
jungle vines coming off lush green. Yeah, you just kind

(58:11):
of it has this whole different feel to it just
being around so much nature. Yeah, and it does feel
like a lot of the landscape is untouched. It's not
like super overly manicured. I think they try to be
like environmentally sensitive and friendly, so it's not like super
overly manicured. But you just when you walk around, I mean,
it really encompasses the beauty of Saint Lucia. And then

(58:33):
Saint Lucia's a beautiful place, and this place just did it.
They did a perfect balance of like luxury chill and
also not really interrupting the natural beauty at the island house.

Speaker 3 (58:44):
Yes, and so Saint Lucia is known as the Hawaii
of the Caribbean because of you know, it's volcanic island,
very large, very green, very mountainous. And one thing that
this resort also reminded me of just because of this
part of the island. Now, we've been all over Saint Lucia,
We've stayed on the north side a lot, and this
is it's way more green. You really do, you really

(59:05):
feel like you're in a rainforest. And it reminds me
of when I went to Tahiti and I was in Marea,
which I've always said Maria is one of the greenest
places that I've ever been, and also like the north
shore of Oahu is like just like that, like so
so green, and this resort reminded me of that. Yeah,
like it is just so green, and then like just
it has the most beautiful setting. I mean, I can

(59:27):
say it's it's definitely one of my most favorite tropical
vacations that we've ever taken, and definitely my most favorite
room that we've ever had.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Oh my god, the room was just awesome. And like
the giant curtains that will black out the whole room,
so it's so dark in there. You can crank the
ac down super low. There's a giant fan you can
spread out. It had a beday.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
Oh, George will have some I don't understand it, but
I'm starting.

Speaker 2 (59:52):
To figure how the day works. I really, you know,
is it the French for maybe just Europe in general
came up with this. It's a great invention America, Americans,
we should have we should have got on board with this.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Yeah, George wants to put it a day in our house. Now.

Speaker 2 (01:00:03):
I love a day.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
There's no way to put it in.

Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
I didn't know what I was doing. I was actually like,
you know, and I use it the first time. I
actually you know I was spun around the wrong way.
I thought you're supposed to face I thought you're supposed
to face the handles in the wall. Yeah, but I
don't think you're suposed to do that. I think you're
supposed to sit on it, like you're sitting on the toilet.

Speaker 3 (01:00:19):
I don't know. I've never done it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
You were missing out.

Speaker 3 (01:00:22):
I think I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
You know. I was skeptical and if it even worked well,
because I was like, this can't work that well. It
works well.

Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Supposedly Europeans think we're like dirty because we don't use
my day.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
I get it now. I'm like, that's that is the
superior way to clean. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. It's quite impressive.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
Okay, so do we have any points of improvement? My
only thing would just be, you know, I wish there
was like maybe one other restaurant that was inside, but
I don't think you can really change that. So you
just have to know that, you know, when you're outside
at dinner and stuff, it might be a little hot.
But oh, one other thing to say, because this happened,

(01:01:01):
so we have the all inclusive package and so the
same time, when my brother ordered the bourbon that wasn't included.
I ordered a bottle of water and the guy charged
me for it, and I said, no, I have the
all inclusive package. And he said, water is not included
on the all inclusive package. And I was like, that's

(01:01:21):
not true. But I'm like, I'm not going to argue
with this guy. I'll just I will, yeah, take it,
you know, let them know at the front desk, and
so just be aware of that. Make sure that you
know they don't charge you for bottled water or anything
like that. So just check your bill at the end.
But I can't really I think of like, oh, and
I will say so one night when they were I

(01:01:42):
think it was our first night they were setting up
for Yeah, it was the first night they were setting
up the stage for the July fourth celebration.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
They were setting up a huge, like industrial grade stage.

Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
Yes, they were setting up a stage. And so at
like three o'clock in the morning they were doing this
and the sound carried down the beach.

Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
To our they were working on it. They were banging,
like I guess bolts, like probably putting the bolt into
the piping to build the frame of this thing. And
it was just quite loud, and so it woke us up,
and then I waited for it to stop. And they
must have been working hard on this thing at three
am for three came out. This out like eight or
nine or something.

Speaker 3 (01:02:15):
Anyways, but I guess they didn't want to disturb people
during the day, and they assumed that it wouldn't disturb
anybody at night. But it did happen to wake us up.

Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Yeah, And I think because we were so close to
the beach. We were one of eleven or twelve rooms
right at the beach. Probably the rest resort probably didn't
hear it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
Yea, my parents didn't hear it, but my brother they
did hear it, and they were right next to us.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Okay, so yeah, maybe maybe it's mine.

Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
But I was the person who I'm like, I'm gonna
go see what that is, and George is like, you
are not walking.

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
I didn't want to go.

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
I'm like, why not it's sun because I'm it's like
the starting of It's like the start of a horror movie.
I'm just like, I'm just gonna go check it out.
But then I saw that it was people on the beach,
so I called the front desk and they stopped and
they actually somebody didn't answer and they stopped right away,
and then they sent me. They send us a very
nice note and a bottle of champagne, like apologizing.

Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Yeah, so I don't want to hold that against No,
I'm not holding it.

Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Against them at all. I'm just saying, like, you know what,
saying what happened, and you know, it's all sometimes there's
you know, you can have a problem, but it's all
in how you respond to that problem. And they responded great,
and all was good. And my brother was like, dang,
I wish I would have called it. I would have got
a free ball.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
Cha.

Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Yeah, that was nice.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
So, you know, I think one of the things we
didn't use that we should have used. This isn't appoint provement,
it's point of provement in our travel experience. We should
have we should have done this. We should have utilized
maybe the in room dining a little bit and just
say bring us some breakfast one day.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
There is a delivery charge for that if you have
the inclusive package. I stillould have done it, though no,
I know I would have too, But yeah, we didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:03:43):
Do that because them setting up breakfast on our little porch,
that little patio we had that overlooked. Oh my god,
that would have been great. Then we went out the
walk you could probably get whatever you want, and like.

Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
There was a coffee maker in the room, right I believe, Yeah, yeah, yeah, there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Was a coffee maker. You could make espresso or like
an americanum coffee. So I had and I had that
a couple of mornings when I would wake up before
you and trying to get work done and stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
And one of the things I really liked about our room.
Last thing that I'll touch on is that like side
closet area where they had like you know, a fridge
and like whole countertop space a sink. It was so
nice because like when we travel, like we never fully unpacked.
We just kind of like sift through our suitcases for
the most part, and so then it ends up looking
like a tornado went through the room. And this was

(01:04:26):
nice because then we could just have the tornado like
off to the side. Yeah oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
Yeah. We never fully unpacked because sometimes we don't know
if we're gonna wear everything. Maybe we should unpack. Maybe
that's easier way to go.

Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
Yeah, we probably should.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
I think we talked about this before. Here's what percentage
people actually fully unpack, yeah, versus kind of do what
we do, like and I just kind of leave everything
in this area, separate the dirty with clean, then you know,
and then if you don't use the clean, it's already
kind of half packed, you don't have to repack it.

Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
Yeah, we always, I feel like, end up using this.
But you can get away with a carry on.

Speaker 2 (01:04:56):
Just say absolutely.

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
You never on a vacation like this, you I ever
need as much clothes as you think. Because you were
in swimsuits pretty much all day long.

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
We didn't need pants. I didn't need pants, which was great.

Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
That was nice. Yeah, that is a nice one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
I think that's a huge plus, like no pants thing
like we were just when.

Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
We're talking about no pants. Sorry, we might have a
new listener. So I just want to say, so, some
resorts require that men have long pants and closed tote shoes,
and this resort does not require that. But so and
George always hates that requirement, which I agree because if
you're in a warm climate like that, who wants to
wear pants?

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
So yeah, I couldn't agree more. Yeah, couldn't agree more. So.

Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
I think that kind of sums up our stay at
Sugar Beach, Saint Lucia. I absolutely loved it. Oh one
other thing. Sorry, Then I want to say pro tip
if you do want to go to this resort, and
maybe it's going to be just out of your budget
for you know, a whole stay. I have had a
lot of people go and stay at a completely different resort.

(01:05:57):
So let's say like Sandals. I've done this a few times.
People have gone and stayed at like Sandals on the
northwest side, you know, totally all inclusive, stay there for
like four days, and then we transfer them from there
to Sugar Beach and then the like splurge for the
last two nights. But then you know you're you're saving

(01:06:19):
a little bit, but you can still get like a
full six night vacation. So that's an option. The cost
of a ride between let's say Sandals, Regency La Talk
Up in the Castrees area, or any most other resorts
in the Castrees the area, it's gonna be about one
hundred and seventy five dollars from there to Sugar Beach. Now,
if you've also been listening to this podcast a long

(01:06:41):
time and heard other podcasts on Saint Lucia and you're
probably wondering, Oh, they haven't mentioned the helicopter. Can I
do the helicopter there? You cannot do the helicopter to
this resort because the helicopter takes you to the airstripping
castres and then you're gonna have like an over an
hour ride. So yeah, the helicopter is not an option,
Just so you know to perfect right now? What is?

Question on the day.

Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
All right, oh you joined it with me? There, I
like it. Okay, here we go, Here we go off
of our friends from ask reddit. Okay, what's something you
didn't realize was expensive until you became an adult?

Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Life?

Speaker 2 (01:08:12):
Just yeah, life in general, life in general. The redditors
had some really good answers. That's a really funny answers.
I'll start with I'll start with what the redditors think.
The top comment rugs rugs. Why do rugs call so much?

Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
I don't get, like, I don't get why people yes
pay so much money for rugs.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
I mean they can be cheap. We find cheap rugs
all the time.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
I mean I feel like the don't take this wrong
if you're listening to this, but the older generation cares
about that more than like our generation.

Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
Oh yeah, they value like fancy, high end rugs from
like Turkey and all the fancy.

Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
I could not care about those like any lesson I
do like I I don't care about a rug at all.

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Give it, you walk on it, your dogs walk home.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
We have two big dogs. And I can't imagine like
paying like a lot of money for a rug.

Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
I have anxiety about people walking on it or something
and be like, I don't don't know, do like if
it's on my floor all the time, I don't want to. Yeah,
I don't want to be expensive.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
One hundred bucks maximum on a rug.

Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
Oh yeah. And you can find some very beautiful rugs.

Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
Yeah. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Rugs are kind of like art. It's like the beauties
in the eye of the beholders. I've seen some rugs.
I've seen some rugs that I know are like seven
thousand dollars. I'm like, that is hideous.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Well, when we were when we were in Turkey two
years ago, go, that was quite the hustle there with
the Turkish.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
They stuck us in a room with these like rug
makers and they're like going nuts throwing these rugs out,
and we.

Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Just kept trying to get out and they're like, no, no, no,
look at this one. And I'm like, no, we have
two big dogs. We're not we don't buy expensive rugs.
And they're like, but you can wash it, and I'm like, yeah, dude, no.

Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
I'm sorry. Like I just left, like, yeah, we buy
rugs on Amazon for forty dollars, like I don't do well,
I don't do expensive rugs.

Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
That's quite forty, but maybe like eighty two one hundred.
Now other things that I will say, other things that
are expensive that maybe I didn't quite realize when I
was younger, honestly, travel, Like before I even got into
this business, and this was.

Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Travel can be very affordable though I.

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Know, but for our honeymoon, which I got into travel
the year after we got married, but before a honeymoon,
I was like, oh, you know, we could go to
like Fiji and it's going to be like three thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
Like that was well, you get a lot of quotes
and you're you know, so yeah, there you go to see.
People don't realize how to.

Speaker 3 (01:10:31):
No, I know, so I do sometimes have to understand
yeah that sometimes people just truly don't know how much
stuff like that, how much travel cost so.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Yeah, I think a couple of things that come to mind,
Like when you're young, when you're a kid, you don't
think of like insurance. Insurance is very expensive. Yeah, like
some of the things that that you like, insurance is
nothing you can see, so like you wouldn't think, as
I'm talking of being a kid, you wouldn't be like
it can't be expensive, Like, oh, it's very expensive insurance.

Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Especially when you have a private insurance. It's like private
medical insurance.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
Like guess yeah, Like there's there's things on here and
like like, oh, this is a good one from an
ask reddit. This is one hundred percent accurate. Freaking blinds.

Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
Blinds are crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Wines for your house are so expensive, shutters, blinds, all
that stuff just insane. How expensive that is furniture in general.
I mean, there's there's a lot of things that like
you don't think about, especially when you're younger in college
and then you get you get to be an adult
and you're like, how much are set of linds? Like
what the heck? Yeah, like this fake this fake would

(01:11:32):
is how much money?

Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
And I remember our first house it was like thirty
eight hundred dollars or something. I think for blind that's
cheap for these still. It wasn't thirty five hundred dollars, No,
it was like I think it was like eighteen hundred
or two thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
And that's an expensive these days.

Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
And then they wanted like an extra charge to deliver them,
and I was like, oh no, I'll just go pick
them up. And then I picked them up to save
like fifty bucks. So and I would still do that
to stay because that is an unnecessary charge for us.

Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
All right, well, guys, thank you so much for listening,
and we cannot wait to work with you on planning
a trip to this fabulous resort or just anywhere in
Saint Lucia in general. It's an amazing island that I

Our dog's named after it.

Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Yes, our dog is actually named after it.
