Speaker 2 (00:22):
What is up everybody? Hey everyone, welcome back to another
edition of the nemicdraption. We got a show for you
today on this midweek. We can't even figure out what
to call this thing. We're just here to bate.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
What are we going to call this thing? Yeah, so
we're gonna start doing like a midweek series with travel.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Tips, short podcast five six minutes, something to get you
through the week.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Yeah, so like a travel tip Tuesday or travel tip Thursday,
or we thought about wander Lust Wednesday. So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Where it depends.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Now, gonna call it like midweek travel tips.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
And it's just a short little nugget. Just some people
like the travel tips things they might not know. So
you can tune in for five to six minutes and
it's get some good travel tips, take them with you.
I think it's just a great way to just kind
of give you a nice little nugget to get you
through the week. As we do our podcast weekly, our
main one where we get through reviews, and we'll just
try to do weekly. We're doing weekly in depth reviews
and depth details about travel. But these little midek nuggets
(01:15):
we found. This we our first one. I'm excited about it.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yes, so today we are going to talk about Global
Entry versus TSA pre Check. And you might not know
what they are or what the difference is, and so
we're going.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
To talk about that. Yeah. I think like from the
outside looking in for newer travelers and they see this, Hey,
I gotta go through customs, I gotta do all this stuff.
You're gonna hear these phrases and see these things, and
we want to give you a little more details on
what they are, what the differences are. And I think
this is a great podcast to kind of kick off
this midweek podcast touch point.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yes, yeah, absolutely so. First off, both of these are
good for five years when you purchase them. They are
all an additional cost. So TSA pre Check is about
seventy seven dollars, Global Tree is about one hundred and
twenty dollars. Basically the biggest difference is with TSA pre check,
you go through a separate line, You get a number
(02:10):
that's attached to you. You feel like fill out a questionnaire.
I think they run your background check for both of these,
but you go through a separate line. When you're at
the airport. You don't have to take off your shoes.
But I think they just announced that TSA is doing
away with that anyway. What you don't have to take
off your shoes anymore?
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Oh oh, I thought you meant like making TSA pre
check people take their shoes off.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Oh they're saying traveler, Yeah, travelers don't have to do that,
but it's a shorter It usually is a much shorter line.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Usually, Yeah, you don't take your belt off, right, You.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Don't have to take your computer out of your bag,
you don't have to take your liquids out of your bed.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
So much quicker, smoother security experience getting through TSA. Yes,
because you've been pre checked to a certain level, right.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Yeah, so it just kind of expedites you. Now you
might be wondering, well, if I do that, will everybody
on my ticket get it? Honestly, that part of it
is the luck of the draw off, only one of
you have it. Now, kids under the age of twelve
are allowed to go with an adult through the TSA
PreCheck line, even if it's not on their ticket. But
(03:12):
as far as like another adult being on there, I
usually it does give it to them, but I have
seen where it doesn't, so yeah, for sure, just note that.
But so again that's about seventy seven dollars. So global
Entry what that is is it includes TSA PreCheck. So
I often get asked or told like, oh, well I
(03:32):
have both, like which one do you need for this trip?
If you have Global Entry, you never ever need to
do or pay for TSA pre check again, because global
entry includes TSA PreCheck.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yes, so just get Global Entry, especially if you're a
frequent international travel and when I say frequent, just if
you go once every few years, I think global entry's
worth it, right.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
And yeah, if you only do like a couple of
international trips, you know, like say in the next five years,
you might do two international trips, but you do maybe
you travel often for work, or you might do you know,
several domestic trips throughout the year. Just get the Global
Entry because you're only paying what forty three dollars more,
(04:14):
and so you get all of the benefits of TSA
pre check. And then when you go on your international trip,
when you arrive back into the country, there is a
separate line for global entry. They've changed it multiple times.
We've had it so long. But it used to be
where they scanned your fingerprints. They don't do that anymore.
Then you to scan your passport. They don't do that now.
It's all just facial recognition and you just walk up
(04:37):
and it scans your face and then you walk by
the border patrol agent and they know who you are automatically,
and then you just walk right through. And it's super quick,
super easy. Like you can get through, like I mean
less than five minutes.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Absolutely, And if you especially if you live in a
maybe regional airport or a smaller airport hub, you probably
are connecting. So Miami, Charlotte, these common international destinations aren't
your finals. So you want to go ahead and get
through as quick as quickly as you can, just in
case your flight was delayed. Getting out of your original destination,
you can make sure you're not going to miss your flight.
(05:13):
So it gives you a little bit cushion there to
not miss a flight. It's more convenient paved a little
bit more, and I agree Global entry comes with TSA
pre check. It's a no brainer in my opinion, especially
if it saves you, like literally one misflight. And just
the convenience. I hate line.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, just the convenience.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I hate lines. I'm becoming a convenience. Like we just
found out today about the public's free delivery thing.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Well, you pay like one hundred dollars a year and.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
You get free delivery with publics. How do we not
know about this?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I mean think you have to tip because it's all
through instacrat. I looked at it, but we're gonna start
doing it.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
I think, like we know everything about all the travel hacks.
I know nothing about other hacks. Yeah, other life hacks,
like oh you can get groceries delivered and the certain
tier with publics or whatever this thing is. I'm like,
where have I been? That would have saved us so
many hours? We could have done more podcasts instead of
sitting at the grocery store.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yes, so anyways, I want to.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
Be inside of the publics. I do like PubL right,
the subs are the bomb yes, okay, bomb.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Dot com, So I do want to mention one thing
different in the approval process between these is with Global Entry,
you do have to go in for an interview, so
that is the inconvenient party, but it is a one
time inconvenience for a lifetime of convenience because then the
renewal is super easy. I've renewed mine twice now and like,
(06:26):
I just go on pay the renewal fee and then
I'm approved. In a few days, they send me a
new card, so like you don't have to go in again.
So it's that's a little bit of a sticking point.
But you can look on their website. But most major
airports have an office, and then they do also have
like pop up events for Global Entry. Like we live
(06:48):
in Charleston, closest office for US is Charlotte, even though
I believe they are going to be opening a Charleston office,
but they do random pop up events here throughout the
year that you can schedule an appointment for or if
you're going on an international trip you don't have it.
A lot of them will allow you to do like
a walk in as you're connecting. So if you're stay
(07:08):
connecting at Miami.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
That's all that's super Then you can just walk into.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
That office, complete the interview real quick, and then be
on your way and then hopefully you get approved.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
So I love that.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah, but again, one hundred and twenty dollars for Global
Entry seventy seven dollars for TSA pre check. Both are
good for five years. If you're going to do, in
my opinion, at least one international trip or more, then
just get the Global Entry. It's it's totally worth it.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah. Now, global entry doesn't apply to international destinations. This
is mostly domestic coming back into the US. Now, there
is now one airport I think that does recognize global entry, right, No, not.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
On a arrival clear customs, but you clear customs there
and then they do have so you clear US customs
in Nasau, that's right, And they do have a separate
global entry and for that they do also do that
for Aruba.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Oh interesting, okay, So yeah, so as they expand it
and might even get more coming up both ways. Right,
that's awesome. Yeah, gotta love that. Nice. That's our travel
Tip Tuesday. We'll call it for this week at least.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Or our midweek travel tip. George keeps wanting to call
it travel Tip Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
I don't know why. That just rolls off the tongue.
Speaker 3 (08:17):

Speaker 2 (08:20):
It's triple t TTT Tuesday or Thursdays. You're right, you're right.
