Ghiacciai elevati, sono lo sfondo di romantici laghi alpini e malghe idilliache, e più in basso frutteti in fiore e prati rigogliosi. Resia si trova a 1500 m sul livello del mare, a poca distanza dal Passo omonimo. Non solo meta di turismo, perché dal dopoguerra e soprattutto fino alla fine degli anni '80, le caserme e casermette della zona pullulavano di alpini e artiglieri in servizio di leva - marce, campi estivi ed invernali, esercitazioni, erano frequenti.
Questa è una tragedia avvenuta il 3 febbraio 1961, proprio durante lo svolgimento di una attività invernale. Ci sono componenti del 5 reggimento artiglieria da montagna Orobica e c'è una valanga che gli cade addosso. Purtroppo 4 artiglieri perdono la vita -
