Speaker 1 (00:02):
You're listening to lee KOM presents Heroes in Training. The
Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, also known as lee KOM,
has been providing training to heroes all across the globe
since nineteen ninety three. This podcast gives you an insider
look at the stories of triumph and hope from both
(00:22):
former students and faculty, helping you decide if lee KOM
is the right choice for your higher education. Let's start
the show, so.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Welcome everybody to this week's episode. So today we are
joined by one of our student dentists and we will
just start off today by letting her introducers out. Hello.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Everyone, my name is Sadiganam and I'm a first year
dnnald School student at the LEECOM School of Dentel Medicine
and Bradenson and I'm in the class of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Welcome so much. Was so excited and I'm excited to
talk to you today and just we get to learn
a little bit more about your experience and why do
you choose to com so yes, just to start off,
we're gonna sit off with why did you choose to
become a dentist and go to dental school. So my
interest in.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Healthcare began when I used to shadow my uncle. He's
a dentist and he owns a practice in Germany, so
I used to travel there a lot and shadow him.
I was always intrigued by the way he focused on
providing preventive treatments to his patients and spend time with
them to provide consultations that would benefit their oral health.
I also love the mix of science and art as
(01:38):
well as the work life balance that dentistry provides.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Sounds great, that's so interesting going for my uncle in Germany.
That's really cool. Yeah, that's really cool. Why did you
choose lee Calm and specifically the raided in campus.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
So my sister, Carlican Nam, she attended Leecom School of Pharmsy.
She also earned her master's in Health Service Administration at LIECOM.
So I had a very good understanding about the holistic
approach that Leecom adopts, as well as the way Leecom
shapes students into ethical healthcare providers with a high level
of professionalism. Personally, I had a firsthand view of the
(02:17):
success that Liecom allows his students to achieve. Because my
sister became a pharmacy manager a few months after graduating
from LEECOM a district leader, emerging leader shortly after and
is now a district leader at CBS. And so that
success inspired me and I decided to apply to Leecom's
early acceptance program at Brandenson.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
That's amazing. That's really good to hear and like to
just get to see both of you guys really succeeding.
That's really cool.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah, that's amazing and we're glad to have you here.
So excited to chose leecom. And what do you think
that specifically the dentistry program at LEECOM has to offer
that makes it something that special and can be appealing
to other incoming students.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
So there are so many things that I love about
lee Coom. I believe that the faculty at LEECOM puts
so much effort into ensuring that their students are receiving
the best education that they could. They're also always available
and willing to help assist and allow their students to succeed.
I also really like the PBL program that LECOM offers
(03:24):
because it allows students to work on case based studies
as a team, which not only enables us to interact
and learn from each other, but it also enhances our
interprofessional skills as future healthcare providers. Also, the Leecom School
of Dental Medicine offers a lot of clinical experiences, which
I believe is very important. First year dental students like
(03:45):
myself are given the opportunity to assist thirty year dental
students in a clinic setting, which prepares us in regards
to communicating with patients and providing them with optimum care.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Are you seeking to enter or elevate your career in
an industry that protects the health and wellness of our communities.
If so, Leecom will help prepare you for that journey.
Leecom offers three innovative and fully accredited master's degree programs
and a Doctor of Healthcare Administration program. Through its School
of Health Services Administration, you can specialize in public health,
(04:17):
biomedical ethics, or health Services Administration. Students are prepared to
solve complex problems through a dynamic online learning platform taught
by an outstanding faculty of industry experts. The programs are flexible.
Courses are available twenty four to seven, so you can
work on your studies anytime. Email SHSA at Lecom dot
(04:39):
edu to begin your journey of discovery. That's shsa at
Lecom dot edu. Classes are now forming at lecom. We
know wellness and are teaching the business of healthcare. This
message brought to you by Lecom, a nonprofit organization.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Thank you for sharing that. That's so great insight into
just the beginning of our program. Yeah, of course. And
what has been your favorite part or your favorite memory
about dental school so far.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I'm making a lot of memory that I know for
a fact, forever cherish. But my favorite part about dental
school is the people that I get to meet. To
be honest, we all share one main interest. We get
to learn from each other and share our knowledge with
each other. And I'm so blessed to have met some
of the most amazing people here at leecom that have
quickly turned from classmates to family, and I'm so grateful
for their support throughout this journey.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
That's amazing. And do you have any advice to individuals
that are thinking about going to dental school.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I'd say, don't be afraid to reach out to faculty
for help throughout your academic career and focus on making
progress rather than always getting things right the first time,
because dentistry requires patience and practice. Also, please feel free
to reach out to me or other students if you
have any questions, because we were all at a point
where we had to make decisions about going to dental school,
(06:04):
taking the DAT the application process, and choosing between schools.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Perfect. Yeah, and we'll make sure that there's all that
information for students or incoming people in any of our
description boxes. So those all of these are going to
be some contact information. And do you participate in any
extracurricular activities while at Lee Common while studying?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Yeah, I'm a LEECOM Student Ambassador and a member of
the American Student Dental Association, so I get to volunteer
and organize events like the Super Silent Saturday pre Dental
Day and give kids a smile. I'm also part of
the ASDA D five pre Dental Mentorship Program, and I'm
currently doing research at lecom.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Perfect. Hey, you guys put on some really cool events.
We've had some LEECOM students organizations have put in some
really cool events and it's always amazing to see. And
I guess we'll just kind of wrap the questions up
by is there anything that additional you'd like to share,
or anything else you'd like to say.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
I'd be happy to answer any questions that you have,
but mostly I'd say good luck to all the students applying.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Feel free to always reach.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Out if you need anything, and we're always happy to
help and we're always very.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Welcoming perfect and like I said, there will always be
some for anyone watching or listening. There will always be
some contact information down in the description box below, so
make sure to check that out. And you can always
reach us by any of our social media accounts, which
is either like Eerie College of Osteopathic Medicine or one
they Come. So thank you Sally so much for talking
(07:40):
with us today and sharing a little bit of insight
into we Come School Dental Medicine. We look forward to
seeing you flourish in your career here.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Thank you,
