Speaker 1 (00:00):
We got a question for our American mama's. Dear mamas,
why are you enforcing your beauty standards on black women
and forcing them to straighten their hair?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Oh my, let's ask our American mama's.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Bamabama, she said, and joining us now our American mama
Terry Netderville.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Okay, so the first Lady, Michelle Obama, was at a
public forum event and uh, there's an actress that was
up on the stage. I forget her name, but she's
from a couple of sitcoms and I've seen her in
films and stuff. But she was asking the questions, kind
of moderating it, and somehow the idea came up that
Michelle Obama is forced to straighten her hair by white people.

(00:53):
I believe we have a clip of that. Take a
listen to the first lady.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Sorry about it.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Let me explain something to white people.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Our hair comes out of our head naturally in a
curly pattern.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
So when we're straightening it to follow your beauty standards,
we are trapped by the straightness. That's why so many
of us.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Can't swim and we run away from the water.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
People won't go to the gym because.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
We're trying to keep our hair.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Straight for y'all.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Okay, all right, So.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
It is exhausting and it's so all right.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
So, first of all, the first Lady has straightened her hair.
Apparently she straightened for you.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Oh yeah, I think so. I think she was trying
to live up to my beauty standard.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Well, and you do have wonderful hair, thank you. I mean,
I really don't.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
That's the point that when she was staying all this,
I thought, this is not a black woman, black women thing.
This is an all women thing. Ask both of your
wives how much time and effort and energy we try
to put into our hair, the products coloring, some add extensions,
I probably need some, But it is not a black
woman thing. And and I hate to say this to her,

(02:07):
but I cannot imagine Milania standing up there a room
full of people and saying, let me tell you black
people something. You're not gonna tell me how I'm gonna wear.
No one told Michelle Obama how to. She was the
First Lady for eight years, the most revered first Lady.
The liberal media absolutely adored her. She was on the

(02:28):
cover of all the magazine. She has three books out
about how great she is. She was adored and revered
by everybody. She never had the scrutiny that all the
other First Ladies had if she wanted to do her
hair in any certain way. She's the first lady. She
can say this is how I'm gonna do my hair.
But what I thought was interesting is there's another clip
where she's talking about I mean, listen, she's trying to

(02:49):
sew division on every platform, racial divide. That's what she
in Barrock do best. So she was on another podcast
and she said, you know there's a there's video footage
of her when they undressed the portrait of the First
Lady portrait. Yeah, and she went up to speaking. She
had on she had braids, a beautiful, beautiful hair, new
braids in a in a low bun, and she's telling

(03:11):
Robin Roberts that was that was important. That was that
was on purpose. I may not have been able to
wear my hair in its natural state for those eight years,
but I was making a point to do that then,
that we could wear a hair however we want.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
But who are the world stopping your shirit nobody?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
She's the first Lady.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
No, this is that victimhood mentality that we cannot stand
and everyone's over it.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
So who's preaching she's getting this message. Either she's completely
making it up because she's schizophrenic or something, or she
feels like she's getting this message from somewhere. Are Democrat
handlers telling her that she can't have uh an afro,
that she can't have braids, and she can't have dreads?
Is there a Democrat handle that's they are?

Speaker 2 (03:52):
She needs to fire them.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
And but here's my more important question to her. Right now,
she's free from all of that. That's true, she's free
from all of that. She's touring right now, she's telling
her third book about hair, beauty fashion, she's, you know,
promoting all of that. Why didn't she wearing her hair
in her natural state? Why did she have to have
it straightened? And for the record, those of us in

(04:16):
the eighties, no, we tried to have our hair as
curly as possible. We did perms and spiral perms and
everything possible because we didn't want to trade. This is
just the This is women across all generations. We just
do stuff to our hair. So for her to make
it a racial thing to me is racist. I'm sorry,
she is the most bigoted. First Lady I've ever heard

(04:37):
of my life. She doesn't like white people. It's obvious
she tries to keep a wedge between all of us
with and the way she had let me explain something
to white people, we straighten our hair to follow your
beauty standards. That was it's exhausted. What are you talking about, Michelle?
We listen, Okay, here's the truth. In the seventh grade,
I remember seeing the most beautiful the first time. I thought,

(05:00):
that's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen him a light.
It was Whitney Houston. She was singing Greatest Love of
All and I wanted so badly to look like her
that there's another one I want to dance with somebody
video that came on. She had a blue eye shadow.
I tried to purr my hair like that. I tried
to do my eyes shadow color had nothing. We didn't
I don't remember ever color being the subject like it is,

(05:22):
like she brings it up, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
In two thousand and nine, when she was first first Lady,
Chris Rock made a movie called Good Hair about black
girl's hair, and he made it so his girls would
feel comfortable wearing their hair they want. They wanted to
maybe Michelle should have seen that one.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, she needs to.
