(01:45):
host so Flamby made from why wetto Welcome to another delicious edition of the

(02:07):
Let's stand Out Show. Food criticAllenborg in here and and we are talking
food today and travel. We havea special person here with us who was
here last week, Betsy Weber, who I think I forgot how many cruises
She said ten thousands literally close butprobably in the thirty range, okay.

(02:30):
And she works with a connection tocruise and was basically an expert on cruising.
So we'll talk to her a littlebit about big giant cruise that she
went on, and you know anotherone that she's going on, which is
sounds wonderful actually so but anyway,Christmas is here. I couldn't believe yesterday
we went to Costco. It wasempty. I could not believe it.
Whereas TJ Max is like crowded ascan be, but Costco is completely empty,

(02:54):
so this is a good time tobuy stuff. I guess. I
don't know. Friday night on aChristmas almost Rismith time, I wasn't expecting
that, were you, No,But I don't usually go to Costco on
the weekend, you know, likeeverybody and you know, but they were
children and their family members. Butthey were there at the time. I

(03:15):
know. That was kind of nice. Actually, I was expecting the whole
stampede situation. We also had agreat dinner last night with some friends at
Milk Creek Cattle Company in mentone, and unbelieve if you've never been there,
really really consistent food, very verynice. Sometimes a service can be a
little off, but it wasn't.They have new staff there, they're really

(03:35):
on top of it, and wehad some great We had a big five
combination was it five combination? Barbecue, Bee, Friss, pork ribs.
They have everything for four people, easy briscuit, you can have, chicken,
got double ribs, we got doublebeer, chicken you can have but
sausage with it. I mean it'sall kind of links and everything, and

(03:58):
they get sides with it and twosalads. For like fifty bucks. I
mean, you can't beat it.Really get so much food. And I
had my old favorite liver and onions, which a lot of people go,
eh, but this is like thebest liver. It's moist inside, it
can't be overcooked. But they neverovercook it. So and then we went
to another restaurant which we really liked. And I can't remember the name of

(04:18):
it. Where the restaurant would godo we like? Oh? It was
near in Redlands on the mall.It was a Cajun What was it called
that Cajun restaurant? The seafood atToo Fay it was? Was it called
Cajun atu Fey. It's got somethingat Tu Fey. Well, I'm butchering
this, but we're gonna come back. Yeah, well, we'll definitely come

(04:39):
back. Great, great food, great service, clean restaurant. I just
can't remember the name so as he'slooking it up real quick. But it
was very good. So also justrecently, for about twenty three days,
we were gone on a big giantcruise and also a land vacation. We
flew from here to San Francisco,San Francis, go to Hong Kong.

(05:00):
We spent four days in Hong Kong, beautiful city, country, whatever you
want. I always get confused whatit is. What is a city or
country? It's a city, yes, city, Okay, beautiful city,
like a city state like yeah,Singapore, well it was. It was
a city and country at one point, but then it was under British rule.

(05:26):
But then since nineteen ninety seven,China took over. But then they
kind of keep their hands off theirquote unquote policy, so they they kind
of stand alone. They they're likea some sort like stand They have a
certain name to it, but it'slike Saar is their last like there's a
acronyms Saar. So they actually dotheir own commerce. The people that live

(05:49):
in Hong Kong don't need a visato travel all over, so it's a
little bit different. Beautiful, beautifulcountry. It's like New York on steroids.
I mean it was gorgeous, lightsjust wonderful, and the food there
is amazing. Oh. Then wewent to Macau, which is kind of
an older type of it's not aspretty, but it's a nice area.
I really like it. Nice people, very friendly. We had a fantastic

(06:12):
guide. If you everyone know aboutguides, let us know. We'll give
you some great guides out there thatthe local guides and really really good there.
We went to Hong Kong, Imean to let's see Hong Kong,
Macaw, then Thailand, Vietnam, and then wound up in Singapore. We
spent like four days there and Singaporeis magnificent, cleaner than clean. You
can eat in the bathrooms, youcan clean on the floor. We went

(06:32):
to raffles at the Long Barn.Oh yeah, I had the peanuts with
a Singapore slang and beautiful country andI loved it there. Really every ethnicity
is that's what they really got along. I mean you got a large Indian
Muslim, you got Chinese, yougot a little bit of everything there,
Buddhists, everything, and they allget along. Yeah, really really nice.

(06:53):
But what else, Fay, that'sthe one. It's called shaking crab.
I guess they're the same old theirown chiky and also the ocean foe
because that's what shows on the menu. We're pleasantly surprised. The portion was
huge. Were order one item,We're gonna order a bunch of things.
And then we got her girlfriend said, oh, by the way, we're

(07:15):
not gonna go for lunch and gofor dinner. We'll be either in ten
minutes or two hours. So wehad we had to share something, but
we loved it. We just hadto fried fish. They had the beautiful
portions and really really good. SoI can't wait to go back. Was
that good? Yeah, well I'mgonna try other things fresh. The service
is amazing. One porch and wegot one entree. It was large enough

(07:39):
for both of us and we couldn'tfinish. I mean it was just huge.
So I me, you know somethingis bad about that, you know?
So? And yeah, I definitelywould go back, very very clean
too. Do anythink negative is aparking but get there early, it's all.
Yeah. I would go off timesso I don't have to fight with
the parking. But the food's amazing. So okay, Betsy Weber, let's

(08:00):
talk traveling. Now, let's talkOkay, you're again background. You you're
an agent, you do travel workingwith Connection to Cruz. Yes, you
specialize with Princess. That's your goalto That is my go to. Although
Connections to Cruise handles all the typesof travel, all the different cruise lines,

(08:22):
Princess has been my favorite for thelast so probably fifteen years. That
I've been traveling with though. Okay, yeah, makes you an expert.
Yeah yeah. We're talking about goingto Alaska the next year or so,
and Princess goes there, so wedefinitely will probably go. Yes. They
travel currently out of San Francisco,Seattle, and Vancouver, but in August

(08:45):
of twenty twenty five, they haveone special cruise. It's a fourteen fourteen
day cruise to Alaska with five portsround trip from Los Angeles. So for
those listeners that don't want to fly, that is a really really nice cruise
into it. Yeah, yeah, definitely, we'll talk. Keep us on

(09:05):
your mind, so definitely. Okay. In terms of a lot of people
go we talked about dosing don'ts,and one of the don'ts that you have,
which I agree with, is don'tgo on a three day cruise.
It's not enough time to experience anything. You're constantly in and on and it's
just not enough. You suggested afive day, which I think is the
best way I do. A lotof times people think, okay, this

(09:28):
is my very first cruise. I'mnot sure if I'm gonna like it.
I don't want to invest too muchtime or money, so I'll just do
the three day. Well, thethree day, like you said, you're
just you're just getting on board. You have one full day and then you're
packing to leave. What's with that? The four day isn't much different and
they're virtually the same price. Sofor first time cruisers, yes, I

(09:50):
recommend the five day cruise. Princesshas several that go in October and November
and February and March, which areabsolutely lovely times to go to Cabo San
Lucas. And the best part aboutit is that the ship anchors in the
harbor overnight, so you've got twodays Lucas, so you you could really

(10:15):
see a lot there and it's oneof the places, one of the few
places where you can enjoy the amenitiesoffered with the excursions, but it's a
great place just to go on yourown. I love the glass bottom boats.
Usually you can negotiate a tour aroundthe harbor for maybe ten dollars per

(10:39):
person, and they'll drop you offat a beach where you can snarkle and
you can tell them to come backat a certain time and guess what they
will show up because you don't paythem until they pick you up. So
anyway, that's a really great destination. That's great. So now, in
terms of destinations we've been, thelong we've been on was a twelve day

(11:01):
cruise we just when we got backfrom We usually go on a seven day
or eight day at the most, but you decided, nah, you know,
twelve days not enough. Now theygotta do it. So let's talk
about the one you went on,and then we'll get in later on,
we'll talk about the one that you'regoing on, and next next year,
a year after I guess, yes, yes, Last January, I and

(11:24):
about eighteen hundred other passengers boarded theIsland Princess in Los Angeles for a one
hundred and eleven day round the Worldcruise. Actually there were already passengers on
board. It actually goes from FortLauderdale to Fort Lauderdale or LA to LA.
Now that might seem intimidating even toseason travelers such as yourself and Izzy,

(11:50):
so you don't have to even dothe full hundred and eleven days.
It's broken up into four segments. But it was a chance of a lifetime
to see places in the world I'donly read about, and to be surprised
by areas of the world that I'venever even heard of, but was utterly

(12:11):
delighted. Left from I left fromLos Angeles. The first stop is the
Hawaiian Islands. It takes about fivedays to get to Hawaii, and that's
another thing that I wanted to bringup. A lot of people say,
oh, my goodness, what doyou do on all those sea days?
Those my goodness. I mean, you know, there is there are so

(12:37):
many activities. I couldn't do everythingI wanted to do in one day.
You know, they have free craftclasses, they have got a choir.
I like the trivia games. Theyhave dance classes. You can learn how
to play bridge, bingo, Bingohyeah, well they have gambling, yes

(12:58):
they have They do have that. And actually, because it was such a
long cruise, I did play bingoa few times and I actually won the
big jackpot twice, so that waskind of nice. There were a few
excursions that I thought, oh,gee, should I bite the bullet?
Should I do this or not?And I went ahead. And for example,

(13:20):
the one when we got to Akabad, Jordan, I had to go
see Petra. But it's a longtrip from the city to Petra and a
little on the pricey side. ButI just said, you know what,
I gotta do this, this isonce in a lifetime. And then I
won the Bingo, so it waslike you meant to be. Life is

(13:41):
good. So okay, So youflew from here, no, no,
no. I went from from hereto Hawaii, Dwai, and then from
Hawaii to the South Pacific Tahiti,Marea, Pago Pago, which American Samoa,
and then New Zealand. New Zealandwas an utter delight, absolutely gorgeous.

(14:07):
The Bay of Islands. I couldlive there. That was just amazing.
Eight at a restaurant, Well,we took the ferry over to Russell,
which is at the end of thepeninsula, and there's a very very
old hotel restaurant bar the Duke ofMarlborough and they touted the best Hamburger in

(14:30):
all of New Zealand. Well, how could I pass that up? And
you know what it probably was?It was absolutely incredible. Anyway, we
had three ports in New Zealand. We were going to see three more,
but there was a huge cyclone headingdirectly at the port we were going to

(14:52):
go to. We had the mostwonderful captain. He was able to divert
us. We went directly south andheaded immediately to Australia. And even though
it usually takes a good year inadvance to secure docking for a large cruise
ship, he was able to managea docking at Melbourne, which was not

(15:15):
originally on our itinerary. What adelight that was. The city rolled out
the red carpet forest, they providedfree transportation throughout the city and I had
one of the most memorable meals ofthe whole trip by the waterfront there.
What did you Oh my goodness.Well, they started with a it was

(15:37):
a cream fish stock shooter, soyou either drink it right away or they
had this nice crusty bread that youcould dip in it, and oh it
was. It was scrumptious. Andthen a Kobe beef carbaccio salad and oh

(15:58):
it was delightful. And then myvery first ever toffee pudding stick sticky toffee
pudding and it had a little bitsof heath bar in it and and dates
and vanilla ice cream. I is, he's been to Australia and she loved
it absolute that and also we alsowant to go to Greenland, New Zealand

(16:18):
too, Yes, but she lovesThat's how next up. Really. Yeah,
I've been in Australia like four differentcities for twenty days, and I'm
sure you flew there. Yes,I did, Okay, I flew there.
Well. This month, on thetwentieth, the Princess is opening up
a fifty four day round trip cruisefrom Los Angeles to Hawaii, the South

(16:45):
Pacific, New Zealand, Australia andback to La No applying. So now
you're a foody too, so thatthat's one of the reasons we're having you
on you telling you talk about food, you start crying. Funny was great.
Oh yeah, okay, so hewent to Australia. Yes, how
long were you there Australia? Wehad Oh that's another thing. Yes we

(17:10):
had. Oh let's see how manyvisits we I think we had about five
ports. Wow. But the lastone of Darwin, we were not able
to go into Darwin. Unfortunately anothership there. There was another ship that
dared. They braved the storm andactually when you're at when you're docked,

(17:33):
it's actually more treacherous because you're bangingup against the dock. So, like
I said, we had the bestcaptain and he managed to maneuver so that
we were perfectly safe now normally onall the cruise you've been on, if
you're had any really bad ones, because a lot of people I still get
freaked out when we get seasick andeverything. And those big ships nowadays they're

(17:55):
really stable. I mean, youright, you shake, you roll more
than anything. It's just like anearthquake. I mean, it just expanded
a little bit, but it's reallynothing. No, it's so mild.
I mean, yeah, I mean, but I think a lot of people
have I think there's different level ofmotion sickness. There's some people just a
little bit can really push them offthe edge. So I mean for those

(18:18):
people, I think knowing that thatwould be something to rather not to sign
up for because they'd just be miseryfor a long perceime. Yeah, I
mean, or you know, youjust have to count for that, you
know, and get medicated the entiretime. Well that's why I recommend the
five day because you have two dayswhere you're at on shore. But I've
taken people on cruises with me andyou know, they've done the patch behind

(18:42):
the ear and then they've done asecond cruise and they go, you know
what, I don't even need thatthe newer ships are so big, and
now the ship that I was onfor the World Cruise, it is a
smaller ship. In fact, itwas specifically measured and designed to pass through
the Panama Canal, and so itis a smaller, older ship. And

(19:06):
they did warn us that there weregoing to be a couple of days that
we would see some stormy seas, but you know what, it was never
an issue. And normally, likedriving in a car or a bus,
it does motion sig. This doesnormally affect me, So I feel like
I'm kind of the barometer for whetheror not it's going to be an easy

(19:26):
trip or not, and it's neverbeen an issue for me. The other
thing is, I would recommend ifyou're at all in doubt, opt for
a balcony, so that way you'vealways got that fresh air right in your
face, you look at the outat the horizon, and it's just not
been an issue for me. Yeah, I've read that some people actually do

(19:48):
the lower bow because then the shipdoesn't actually sway as much. That's true
versus the top part. It lower, it tends not to sway as much
as more stable. So I meanthat that's always all alternative, but yeah.
I I've never had quote unquote motionsickness or sea sickness, so I
can't say. But you know,I've seen people being miserable, and I'm
like you, I think she's evensick of his metandable. You're listening to

(20:14):
Let's Sign Out Show right here onAM ten fifty and what six point five
FM, the stations I leave nolistener behind and were listening to the Let's
Sign Out Show and with us isBetsy John's Betsy Johnson. We were talking
about Betsy Johnson, Jewelry. Ohokay, oh yeah, wow, everything
with both that's wow. Betsy Webber, sorry about that. We're working with

(20:34):
Connection to Cruise. Their website isConnection to Cruise dot com. I believe.
Yeah, they're in Riverside and Redlands. I'm sorry. And what's nice
about them is not just cruises. They do any kind of travel and they're
very good and if they don't havethe answer, they'll get it for you,
and that's what's so nice. Andyou get the personal attention. You
can go on your own and likePriceline and all these other places, I've

(20:56):
been burnt by it and I wouldnever ever do it. My first one.
Maybe you may save a few dollars, but it ain't worth it really
well. Plus, you know,I just find personally, I guess I've
always worked in a travel agent justbecause there are things that in the know,
they know how to get in andout of the system to get you
certain things you need. Your requestsfor things like I have an unreasonable request

(21:21):
for me, I want to benot next to the closet kind of thing,
you know. But you know, those are things that you know,
like or if you need something special, you know your travel agent can actually
help you navigate through those, youknow. Yeah, a lot of people
that have never used a travel adon't realize that you don't pay extra.
You pay the same price whether youbook it yourself. But yeah, there

(21:44):
are a lot of advantages you hadmentioned having a stateroom midship top, top
to bottom and also front to back. I'm very particular about location for my
cabin. When I uh sale goingon, I book it immediately because I
want to be midship, top tobottom, front to back, and I

(22:07):
like to be near the stairs andelevators. Need to last one I requested
be closed went through the left. Two doors, Yeah, two doors.
I like the two doors not rightthere for just two doors down it's perfect
And people say, oh it won'tit be noisy people, No, you
don't hear it. Yeah, okay. So he went to Australia. Then

(22:30):
we're okay, and then we wentthrough asiae if I can remember all the
places. Malaysia absolutely amazing, Thailand, Sri Lanka. Uh. We ended
up in Dubai for two days. Now, that was the end of the
first leg, so a lot ofpeople. Some people got off in Dubai

(22:55):
and some people boarded in Dubai. So that's one leg of the crew and
we were there for two days, which was wonderful because you need a week
to see everything there is to seein Dubai. And the fact that we
traveled from January to May was wonderfulbecause the weather was so mild the whole
time. Yeah. After we leftDubai, we went to Oman. I

(23:21):
think I talked about that last week. That was a very pleasant surprise.
I enjoyed that visit Jordan with Petra. We went through the Suez Canal.
That was a real treat. Jerusalem. My parents met and married in Israel.

(23:42):
My two older brothers were born inIsrael. Oh wow, I had
never been, so that that wasreally a big treat for me. We
got to go through Old Jerusalem andthe Whaling Wall, and you know,
as you can imagine, there's alot of security in Israel, and when

(24:03):
we got off the ship, wewent through several stations of security checkpoints.
When we got back, there wasnobody there. The entire country went on
strike that day. Oh dude,So it was kind of bizarre. We
just sort of, hello, where'severybody. We just walked back on the
ship. So that was that wasa little strange. We went to Kusha

(24:27):
Dashi, Kusa Dashi, Turkey.Wow. A lot of people took the
side trip to Ephesus and they saidthat was a highlight of the cruise.
Again, you're you're walking on cobblestonesthat people have walked for you know,
thousands, not just hundreds, butthousands of years. And then Greece and

(24:51):
of course Italy, which is probablymy favorite country. I'd been there before
and we enjoyed it. Yeah, and that was a that was an others
stop off point. How was thefood traveling all those Oh my goodness.
Well, we you know, itwas amazing that there were language was not
a barrier. I thought, oh, how am I going to order a
meal? But there were a lotof English speaking people and a lot of

(25:15):
menus with pictures, and I justlooked at something. I said, Okay,
that sounds really good. When wewere in Turkey, it was during
Ramadan, so the restaurants were virtuallyempty except for the tourists, so that
was kind of an advantage. Butwe tried all different kinds of meat platters,

(25:37):
I mean, just every kind ofmeat. Oh, you have to,
that's one of the well I know, people went to China. To
China, they spent two weeks thereand ate nothing but McDonald's. That's it.
I know people. Don't you agreethat people should at least try the
different food? Absolutely? Yeah,I I I tend to be even though
I like food, I am pickyabout certain things. But it's fine.

(26:00):
But when I'm on vacation, ohyeah, especially like on the cruise ship,
when they serve your meals, they'realready paid for. So why not
try everything? Try the s cargo, try the pata. I mean,
and if you don't like it,I don't like it, I want this
instead, I want two plates ofthis. We've done that. Yeah,
yeah, absolutely, it look atyou a little weird, like, oh
my god. Yeah. And youknow, when you go to a foreign

(26:23):
country and you try you ask thewaiter if you're bringing your relatives here,
what would you serve them? Andwhen you order it and you enjoy it,
they are they love it so delighted. Yeah, you've made their day.
I know it is. He isvery adventurous too, and she'll try
most anything. I mean there's nothingshe won't try. But you know,

(26:44):
I agree with you may not likeit, but at least try it.
Why travel if you're not going toI mean, traveling is eating, it's
shopping, it's exploration exactly, andwhy you know, to experience it.
You wouldn't be going on a cruiseif you didn't want to experience it.
So to me, I really thinkyou should try it. You may not
like it, but try it.And if you don't like it, oh
well now you can say it.But see if you get like a combination

(27:06):
player. Maybe sometimes restaurants will giveyou a little bit of you know,
a small portion. Oh yeah, tryappetizers. Oh yeah. When we were
in Barcelona, we all I wantedwas tapas and sangria. Sitting on an
outdoor cafe, and by golly,I found three other women that were traveling
by themselves, and we went together. And we had no idea. We

(27:30):
just used to just keep bringing itout. And you know what, the
thanks were empty by the time wewere done. And so was the picture
mark of Sangria. That's funny. So okay, So we went to Turkey,
went to it omen Aman he wentall over the place there. Yeah,
Italy Italy was a real adventure. The Amalfi cost a lot of walking.

(27:51):
Yeah, but you know what,A lot of the cities offer hop
on, hop off buses, whichI highly recommend at least to get an
overview. Then you can always getoff and go back and and spend more
time in that one area. Butthat was also uh the second leg of
the tour, we were overnight inRavenna, Italy, which allowed people to

(28:17):
depart and other people to get on. Because it was two days, I
was able to take the bus toVenice, one of my favorite places,
and uh spent a night in ahotel there and and toured the city and
and then came back. Were youto uh No, well, other people

(28:37):
did go to Pompeii. Uh.We drove through the city when we when
we were on our way, wasit was it Sicily or was it?
No? I think it was theMalfis. And I got a great photograph
of Pompeii. Uh oh yeah, with the clouds, the cloud ring around

(29:02):
it. It's hard to see alot of the times because of the clouds
in the mist. But yeah,I happen to get a really good picture
of that. And then after weleft Italy we went to Montenegro. We
talked about that last week, thatlittle cuckoo clock village. Absolutely loved that

(29:23):
Malta with all of the beautiful theport there. You don't have to stray
very far from the port because it'sjust a sight to behold all by itself.
Let's see nice and Marseille again.A lot of walking, but well

(29:44):
worth it. You. You reallycan immerse yourself in the city if you
elect to walk and you stop andtake a break. But if you're like
me and you can't, you know, the little problems walking. Guess what
do you hire a private a tourperson? They're all licensed tours, buy
locals. I think it's called right. Yeah, he used tours by local.

(30:06):
Unbelievable. Yeah, it did reallygood job. I specifically make sure.
I asked for people that has capabilityto have a either you know,
provide a wheelchair or be able tohave a van, private van that can
hold the electric scooter, which theywere able to accommodate, so I know,

(30:26):
take you anywhere. I mean, they may have a formal thing to
take you to. But if yousay I don't want to see fifteen more
churches, I don't want to seefifteen more waterfalls. We want this,
we want that, they'll take youthere absolutely, And that's what's so nice.
And the one we got like amicale, he went out of his
way and we went to a privatedinner just for private club, private officers

(30:47):
and stuff. And his cousin orniece works with the government, so she
got a he went, but hewent out of his way. He didn't
have to do that. Things likethat, it's like, oh my god,
thank you. They treat you likethey and they admire it, they
love it. They love talking abouttheir country. That's one thing I really
got out of a lot of Ohthe pride is amazing, whether it's the

(31:07):
orient whatever. Uh yeah. Ihired drivers in several places. In fact,
there were there were eight of us. When we were in Sri Lanka,
we hired four uh tuk tooks, you know those little like electric scooters,
enough for two people. Well, the craziest drivers I've ever seen,

(31:36):
I would say, while I'm stillI'm here to talk about it, but
they were. They were racing eachother because we would we stopped. Well,
first of all, they're very famousfor their teas, their spices and
their coffee, so we stopped ateach one of those places and we got
to sample all of that. Wewent to a restaurant where it was a
rooftop uh beer uh, just platesand plates of food. It was h

(32:01):
oh. And at one point hestopped and he brought where did he go?
Where did our driver go? Andhe came back with these bags of
hot fresh yucca chips. Have youever had those? I don't know what
they're called in Sri Lanka, butinstead of potato chips, they're thinly sized
ka oh, my goodness. Itwas. It was amazing. It was
so good. So there was justso many pleasant little surprises each day everywhere

(32:25):
we went. Okay, so SriLanka. Then where okay, well that
was bad south of France, basicallylike Malta. Is across south of France.
Yes, we did nice. Andthen Marseille we got to drive around
Monte Carlo. Uh. They weregetting ready for the what is it like,

(32:47):
right yell race, the Formula fivehundred or whatever, and we drove
around on the actual track. Thatwas pretty cool. Then we went to
Barcelona. Of course we got tosee this Gretta Familia, the most view
beautiful cathedral ever. The gorgeous stainedglass and all of the freezes that depicted

(33:07):
the stories from the Bible. Andit was interesting because the front of it
is all ancient type of sculpture andthen you go out the back and it
was more modern. Yeah, itwas very very interesting. That was that
was something I had been anticipating. And then we went to Malaga. I

(33:30):
didn't have no expectations. Where isthat? Malica Spain, very close to
Barcelona, absolutely beautiful, great placefor just walking, or you could go
in a little hansom cab if youwant to. But that was just an
absolutely beautiful city. And we wehad a we had luncheon, an outdoor

(33:51):
cafe, but it turned out tobe Italian food, but it was still
great. And then after that Casablanca, which I was looking forward to as
a little disappointed. At least inthe port area, it was very run
down. A lot of a lotof the passengers elected to go to Marrakesh,

(34:12):
which I wished I had done.Actually that would have been a much
nicer experience. But okay. TheCanary Islands, which are the volcano volcanic
Islands, beautiful scenery, very verylike you're on the moon. It's just

(34:34):
really different. And then across theocean to Fort Lauderdale, which was the
end of another sing that's I heard. Well, yeah, except I think
we we This is one of thethings we did because I had purchased so
many souvenirs. I wasn't planning tobut yes, so she got off.

(34:57):
I did. I that's always like, that's what we're done. Got it
soiled billet it was it's like amile from the port was a post office.
They had the boxes with the tapeI just I brought. I had
a roll on suitcase. I justemptied everything from the roll on suitcase into
the box. I shipped it home. It's amazing how some countries, like

(35:21):
in Vietnam, everything is dirt cheap. Bangkok was pretty good, too,
but I mean it's amazing. Youcan buy dresses for twenty bucks. I
mean, try four dollars. Imean, I were we got screwed.
See damnit. Some of the thingsthat I bought in Malaysia and Thailand.
I get so many compliments, andyou know, I'm like, oh,

(35:42):
gee, should I tell them howmuch I actually made the beautiful stuff there?
Yeah. And there's like four orfive stories high. They're huge buildings,
and they're packed. I mean,I've never seen more packed. Every
stall is packed. So you're talkingthousands of thousands of merchandise and every floor
ones for kids, ones for everything, once for makeup, ones for dresses.

(36:05):
I mean, you can go on. You can spend a whole week
there. Well, I think becausethe conversion rate is so good, a
US dollar is strong strong. Youknow, when US dollar is very strong
traveling countries with high conversion rates, then your dollar goes a long way.
I can get a lot of thingsfor really less, you know. So,
and I was very careful. Idownloaded uh uh a conversion calculator on

(36:30):
my phone, and you know,if they said, you know, whatever
the currency was, I was ableto calculate it. I did make one
mistake, but that was a littlecostly, but it's because I looked at
the decimal point wrong. But otherthan that, I did, I did
just it's on my calculator app.Actually it's built in. No, no,

(36:53):
it's not part of the calculator app. I think I bought uh something
on top of the calculator app,and so actually has a conversion. You
can just change it so neat fromsiccalculator to scientific diffractions to currency. So
it's literally everything easy. So Ihave to like go to any website.
I literally just go there and Ifind exactly what it was. Not everything

(37:15):
is in thousands, so it's liketwenty four thousand, yeah, how much
is it? Twenty four thousands acandy bar? And in Italy they don't
use a decimal point. They usedthe comma. That was a little anything
European it's a comma, Yeah thatwas. But the shops in Malaysia were
actually they were floating shops. Youwalk along the dock and they're floating,

(37:38):
and oh, you had a lumpura lot. I'm trying to think if
we were supposed to go oh,shoot, you got me stumped. Now,
I can't think of the name wewere supposed to go to one place
and they were working on the roadsthere, so they detoured us. But

(37:58):
it was actually Uhanang. We were. I loved it absolutely and the people
were so aren't they nice people?Everybody? Oh yeah, And when when
you're buying something, uh, youknow, you think you're getting this marvelous
you know deal, and then theyend up giving you more things. They
said, oh, here have somemagnets to take with you. Well,

(38:20):
we were I had a scooter.I'm having a bad knee problem, so
I had to get a scooter. But at the airport on the I say
it from the tour bus that wetook the car to the ship, there
was an office police officer there andin uniform and everything in Vietnam, and
he helped me with the scooter.I just tapped him on his shoulders say

(38:40):
thank you, and he just biggestbrand. He wanted a picture with us
and everything. He gave us anice little souvenir. He goes, here,
here's something for my country to rememberus by the pride. I mean,
not just him, but just everybodywas just making you know, what
was nice wash. Every day beforewe'd get into each core, princess would

(39:00):
give us a little print out andit would talk about it would give us
a map of the city and whatthe local customs were, how to say
hello, goodbye and thank you.I think in Thailand, wasn't it cop
kunka? Well, anyway, whenI would say when I would say cop
kunkha or swati car which is hello, they were just thrilled and just doing

(39:21):
that little It would do that withpeople thank you and they loved it.
Well. It makes you feel likeyou're part of it. You know what.
I skipped over something that I wantedto tell you, because this is
a food show after all. Tahitiand some of the other cities that we
went to reports that we went tothere is a hotel, the Royal International

(39:44):
Hotel. You can pay for aday pass that usually includes a meal as
well, and it was extremely reasonable. I mean, most of these hotels,
if you're going to go there, you're you're paying, you know,
your eight hours of sleep, You'renot enjoying it. I mean, you're
not really taking advantage of what theyhave to offer. But this hotel was

(40:06):
like the quintessential Tahitian resort with ahuge pool with the waterfall and the lagoon
Jesus with the fish, and youcould go snorkeling in with the fish,
and you know, the tiki hutsand the fish, the grill. I'll
show you a picture later. It'llmake your mouth water, the girled fish
over coconut rice. Just yeah.So there are a lot of things that

(40:28):
you can do. A lot ofthe hotels, the hotel in Honolulu,
they work with you. They reallydon't be afraid to ask. That's the
main thing. Yes, be open. The worst thing they could do is
say no, we don't offer that. But I looked them up ahead of
time and I found out and uhin Hong Kong. We left our luggage

(40:49):
there, went to Macau for overnightfor to night, two days, one
night, came back. They storedfor free. They stored the lugge.
I mean, come on, well, Bessie again. If you want to
reach bad or anything about tours,go to connection to Cruise dot com.
That's Connection to Cruise dot com andBetsy or Marlus will give you a call

so much for joining. It wasa pleasure. Thank you so much for
having me not besides, well, let's go to commercials real quick, and

(45:45):
have a special guest that we've hadhe around before many times actually and talk
about one of our favorite things. And foo on the line is Joina French
and she's from Joanna Knows Good Food. Welcome to let's sign out joll Joina,
thank you so much for having meexcited. This is like one of
my favorite food times in the year. Oh yeah, especially a lot of
we do a lot of snacking andwith the holiday recipes. You don't think

(46:07):
of chichironas very much, but wereally like them. And one company that
does a great one it's called Pepe's. And that's one thing. First of
all, let's introduce yourself real quick, and let's talk about peppees. Yeah,
so Jonathans and Food loves Pepees. It is really truly authentic to got
on it, crunchy snacks that likefamilies love. It's high protein. It's

(46:31):
like bringing that nostalgic and satisfying flavorat the same time. It's delicious and
it cut down. It cuts downon the cooking parn this holiday season,
save yourself time, do the semihomemade. No one is judging you,
right. Plus it's got no carbs, so that's the best thing of all.

(46:51):
I mean, if you're on alow carb diet. This is definitely
a good think. So I lovethe crunch to it. That's that's what
most people miss on low carb. It's usually not crunchy and it's not good.
But these are really good. Sodoes they have all those exciting flavors.
Oh yeah, a lot of differentthings. Let's talk about some of
those great holiday meal plannings you cando with that some of the recipes.
Yeah, so definitely, you know, with just like I said, it

(47:14):
cuts down the cook tom so youcan serve it with a bunch of different
things. One recipe that to goto of mine is pepe pork line crusted
asparagus and it's super easy. Doyou want to just crush up soup cups
of the pepe, you know, throw them and apply the bags, crush
them. This is fun for thekids. They can smash them, have

(47:36):
fun. Take sixteen asparagus salt stalksthat are trimmed and basically add a little
bit of grated parmesan to that. You know that mix of the of the
n pour one beaten eggs, Dipyour asparagus stalks in the egg and then
the rhyme mixture and then place ona cookie sheet and bake for nine to

(47:58):
ten minutes on four hundred degrees andwhil you have a nice like you said,
you just start with his nestizer.Great appetizer. Yeah, yeah,
I love Asparago's anything asparagus I totallyassign up for so definitely have tally And
it's the fun way to get everyoneinvolved, like people that you know straight
away from asparagus. My husband hatesgas, I think he will like this crunch,

(48:22):
the parmesan, all those things justmake it fun, delightful dish.
And there's a lot of companies outthere, and there's a couple that I
really like. Peppi's is one ofthem. It's very different. I don't
know what makes it so different. It's just lighter and crunchier, if that's
if that's possible for making sense you, But it's just I love it because
you get the nice crunch. It'ssome of them are just too just boring.

(48:45):
They're boring. Landry plus the flavorsis he's got it in front of
her. I know has red pepper, there's halib hab and narow, there's
Chilea limon. That's my go to. Actually, yeah, I love that
flavor. And then first, youknow, if you're not that excited,
you know, don't want to addyour own flavor a little twist, just

(49:05):
go traditional because you can always addany kind of spices to that. Yes,
absolutely, and you can have funwith it. This is a great
side, you know for dippers.I'm a huge gip girl, added as
a you know, ushits on theside for your jip. And I'm also
a smoke cooker queen top your spinishship and the folks cooker. Pair this
with it. It's such a balancedcombination there. I mean, you wouldn't

(49:30):
think of putting it together. Doyou do you put oil on or anything?
Do you just put it in thereand just smoke it? Oh?
Just no, you just added it, just put it on the side,
add it on. I've got likefour smokers, so I haven't tried that
day. So now in terms ofbuying it, first off, the website,
going to get the website and someof the markets you can go to

(49:51):
get it. Yes, so youcan definitely find it at Pepe Original on
you know, the Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, like that's the way of
the world now, and at mostconvenience stores and you can definitely check it
out at pepe Snacks dot com.Okay, Nizzy, you can mentioned the
stores. Well, it looks likesome of the local supermarkets we have in
California like El Supa, Karna's Cardinalsif I killed that. Yeah, a

(50:19):
Superior or Vayata has carries pepees, yeah and gets. What do you if
your market doesn't carry it out forthem, they definitely do it. So
now your website, how long haveyou been doing your your website? Ooh,
John, this food is getting oldas a teenager seventeen years so I've
been around for a while, Cooper, And now what do you just deal

(50:39):
with all kinds of foods? Doyou have a specialty or yes? What
those all kinds of foods? Recipes, drink mixes, tiss on, cooking
tips in the kitchen. Just it'sall around food food and dudes, we're
all going we love it. Onceyou give give it, give you the
outside again. Definitely check me outa johnaoscaz dot com on all socials dot

(51:02):
com, j o h n nafriends, Jenna j o h n na
knows uh food dot com com.Yeah. Perfect. So now, in
terms of peppees, there any doyou know of any new products that are
coming out that you can talk about. Right now, they're really focusing on
their choose your own that's like thebig thing. They have a few snacks

(51:24):
in the works, but right nowthat's the big push. Well why change
it if you have some good rightYeah. No, it's and it's like
an authentic, you know, kindof old family recipe, like just you
know, it's it's delicious. It'sreally like I said, if you ever
cooked your own from scratch, doingthe marinating and then having to actually slice

(51:45):
up the port and cook it,they're saving you time, flavor everything.
I'm intrigued to try it because Ido a lot of uh dishes that require
some short of breading uh huh.Instead of the Italian bread crumbs, I'm

(52:05):
gonna use yeah, just from themup. And I've done it with fish.
Yeah, so the lemon chili, yeah, oh my gosh, that'll
be amazing. I know you cando that with chicken and fish and coat
it like a shaking bag. Youknow, it's kind of like it's good.
I think it's great alternative. Somebodytrying to watch the cart in take

(52:27):
you know, this gives you analternative plus different flavor bursts. You know,
they do have different flavor build in. So that's kind of exciting.
Now in terms of how long hasyou been around, that's one thing I'd
never even asked you. I don'tthink, Oh, definitely, Like I
said, seventeen years, I did. I started to site as a way
to share it with family and friends, and I really like I cooked all

(52:49):
the time, I went out torestaurants all the time. Still who all
the above, But now I havea wider audience, and you know,
it's been fun to share recipes withpeople and just share my fun ideas in
the kitchen. Like I said, especially this is one of my favorite times
of the year because I guess todo a lot of cooking and a lot
of tasting. And now that theyhave a lot of things to help me

(53:10):
in the kitchen to cut down mytime and I can actually entertain and have
fun, I'm loving it even more. Well, that's great. So I'm
glad you talked to us about thisgreat product. We've You've been on I
think two or three times with us, and we love the peppies, we
really do. We there's some greatproducts out there. I don't like everything,
but I do like them, soit's good. So It's wonderful for
having me. We have a greatholiday, holiday happy, a lot of

(53:32):
eating, don't forget. Yes,okay you too, take care. I
love you know again, this tome, every day is holiday of eating.
That's my whole life too. Butno, they get a lot of
good stuff. But traveling again, coming from a big trip that we just
came out and we ate so muchfood. We'll be talking about I'm in

(53:53):
the process of getting all together. We're gonna be in Vegas. We spend
a lot of time there, sowe'll go to some new restaurants. It's
always eating. It's all we do. We're like human sharks. Bet I
bet you didn't put on any weight. Oh well I can almost lost weight.
But that's another story. But well, thank you so much for joining
us. And again, anytime youwant to be on the show. And

(54:13):
let's get someone in from Princess too. I think would be fun to get
