(00:00):
Wonderful. Welcome to another delicious editionof the Let's Dine Out Show. Yum
(00:33):
Yum. This food critic Allen Borgan, and we have a fun show today.
We have a special guest on whoIf you like to travel, this
is the kind of person you wantto snooze with and get become best friends
with. This woman knows everything aboutespecially cruising. If you've never been on
a cruise, this is this isa reason to listen to the show and
you're gonna learn a lot. Andwe have a special cruise coming up next
(00:57):
August and it's gonna be to Alaska, and Izzy and I will be going
with a couple other listeners and we'llbe talking about that, but with us
as Betsy Webber. She's from Connectionto Cruise here in Redlands and I don't
know how the website did a connectionto cruise dot dot com dot com.
Okay, and it's connection plur notplural singular connection two cruise dot com dot
(01:19):
com. Sounds good. How youdoing, I'm great. I'm so happy
to see you. And she's afoodie. I forgot to see it.
Oh yeah, time food I wasa free and you didn't mention I'm going
to be going on that elast kick. My husband and I are yeah to
be joining too, so absolute alot of good food there too. So
we welcome to the show. We'vehad you on before and you're you're just
a wealth enough of knowledge. Andhow long have you been cruising yourself?
(01:40):
And how about how many cruises?I lost track after thirty? Uh?
We started, I believe in twothousand and five. Wow, our son
was about nine years old. Andwe went through a certain travel agency that's
probably well known it it has threeletters in its name, That's all I'm
(02:06):
gonna say. And they led uscompletely the wrong way. Oh really,
yeah, I mean, we hada wonderful time on the cruise, but
the experience of using a travel professionalto guide you was completely lost on us.
So instead you decided to go intoit pretty much, and and you
know it's it didn't dampen my lovefor cruising. But what it did is
(02:31):
it showed me that if somebody isgoing on a cruise, I personally am
going to do everything I can tomake it the best cruise possible, to
give you as much information to makeit fun and easy going. Right,
And that's why every time we've goneon our own, it's been not that
good. But every time we've gonewith with like a company like Connection a
(02:53):
cruise is fantastic. Oh that's goodto hear. There's always been problems different,
you know, things that wasn't theirfault or anything. Right again,
we call Marls's up and Marlo's helpus and she pretty much can took care
of it or guide us too onhow to do it. Oh yeah,
thanks. Things come up, theweather can change, ittereraries can change,
but your travel professional can help guideyou through all of those, and it
(03:15):
doesn't cost anything more than just youryeah, not a bit. In fact,
they can oftentimes save you a lotof money because we know all of
the great specials, and because wecan communicate directly with the vendor, we
can arrange that discount. If youfind out that the cruise or the trip
(03:35):
that you planned has now gone onsale, we can arrange usually for that
discount. So you schmooz with themand we shmoos with you. This is
a teamwork. This is good.Yeah, exactly, this is good.
So okay, one thing you wantedto talk about, you know, since
you are a food let's get thatout of the way. You talked about
many times to me, and Ihaven't heard the whole thing. Okay,
but your most memorable meal you've everhad, period and especially on a cruise,
(04:00):
and so let's talk about that, because this is something that I'm just
looking at as like, oh mygoodness, and reading about it is not
the same. It's an actual diningexperience that my husband and I will never
forget. It's called the three sixtyDining Experience. It is only available on
(04:21):
two of the Princess ships, theDiscovery and the Enchanted, and right now
the Discovery is in southern California, but unfortunately at the end of the year
they will be moving to Australia,so the time to have that dinner is
(04:44):
very very shortly. And if youremember on previous shows, I was not
a proponent of the three or thefour day crews. However, I'm going
to amend that unless you're going onthe Discovery just to enjoy this one meal,
I think it's totally worth it you. It was that memorable. So
(05:04):
I'll explain to you what it is. I'm going to actually read it from
there because they put it into wordsmuch better than I can. So this
is an epic seven course journey thattakes you through the tastes, sites,
sounds, textures, and even senseof the Mediterranean. It blends storytelling with
(05:25):
visuals, music, and world classcuisine as well as wine and champagne to
transport you to the hilltops of Santorini, the Amalfi Coast, Barcelona and Provence.
So it started out where I madethe reservations actually from home before we
even board it, but you canmake these restorations on board as well,
(05:49):
and I picked, I selected theevening and the time that we wanted,
and we were given an invitation andwe were told where to meet and when
when you meet. It starts offwhere you're treated like a VIP. You
have the red velvet ropes and youhave the placard behind you where they take
your photograph and they lead you intothe restaurant with a three piece, you
(06:15):
know, violins and it was reallya marvelous thing. So you go into
this private dining room. The roomis pretty large, it's round, and
it has a round banquet table that'sopen in the center for the weight staff
and each couple has their own waiteror waitress, so you get really personalized
(06:41):
service. And on the walls surroundingyou are is a three sixty screen.
So when you start off, forexample, when we start off in Greece,
there'll be images of Greece, sothat you feel like you're either sitting
at an outdoor cafe or maybe you'rein the middle of a field, or
(07:02):
you're right along the water front, and I swear you can hear the seagulls
and smell the salt water. Imean, it was really amazing. They
started it started us off with adelicious cocktail. They had a foamy top
that was delicious, and then everycourse had a different glass of wine.
(07:26):
So take your time past yourself. So the first course was assorted marinated Greek
kalamada olives with Greek yogurt and petabread okay, and then it was followed
by seared octopus. Now I'd neverhad octopus. I had tried calamari.
(07:47):
I wasn't too impressed. It tastedgood with the sauce, but otherwise I
didn't think it had much flavor. However, this octopus was so delicious.
I actually got to take a pictureof it because I just wolfed it down
so quickly. It had Greek fetacheese, melt pepper, coolie and olive
(08:09):
powder. And it was the texture. The only thing I could compare it
to would maybe be a scallop perhaps, Okay, so it was real tender,
then very tender. Yeah, ofcourse I even got all the way
down to the tentacles. So whatever, it was really good. And then
(08:31):
of course in Italy we started withbuffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and basil,
and then of course we had tohave Nona's tagliatel pasta a la lamone.
Once you're on the Malfa Malfy coast, it's all about the lemons. The
really surprising dish came. H well, it wasn't actually dish, but it
(08:56):
was when we arrived, so tospeak air quotes to Spain. They have
a wine that after they bottle thiswine, they put them in these metal
baskets. They dropped them into theocean very gently, and they age under
(09:16):
the sea. Wow. So thenthey bring these baskets up and the bottles
are all encrusted with seashells and sandand anyway, it was the best wine
I've ever had. And each couplehad their own bottle to use to share,
and they said that they unfortunately didnot sell the wine on board.
(09:39):
It was only for guests of thisdinner, and each wine bottle cost nine
hundred dollars, So for the onehundred and forty nine dollars fee for this
exquisite feat, well worth the price. Believe me, it was incredible.
So with that fantastic wine, wehad a Spanish charcouteri with torriso and Aberraco
(10:07):
Lomito barra bread that the combination wasperfect, and that was followed by a
beef tenderloin with grilled vegetable and demiglass. You know what it didn't say on
here is they had a big ballof butter that was completely covered with black
truffle, and so of course Ismeared that all over the tenderlor and it
(10:30):
was it was wonderful. And inFrance we had a dessert that was actually
white chocolate with lavender essence and honeyjelly. Now what I didn't say was,
besides the three sixty screen all aroundus, our table was more or
(10:50):
less like a hologram. And weeach time each village that we visited on
this this ah epicurean journey, eachvillage had its own uh decor so when
we were in Greece, we hada plate in front of us that wasn't
(11:11):
really there. It was just animage of a plate and when you touch
it it shattered, you know. And and then you know, getting down
to when when we had the dessertwith the lavender and honey, our plate
was swarming with little bees and wewere chasing the bees with her with their
fingers. It's like on Celebrity theyhave chef, which is amazing. If
(11:35):
you've never seen that before, Ihighly recommend it. At first it wasn't.
I was like, yeah, it'sfor kids. No, no,
no, right, well, andand it is very similar that they use
the same type of technology, butthis is definitely not for kids. Yeah.
This this is a real grown upversion of that. And it was
(11:56):
followed by actual friend champagne, notsparkly wine like we usually see in California,
So I've never had that before. So uh, the whole experience was
just wonderful. And as I saidbefore, it is available on uh the
Discovery Princess, whether it's a threeday, four day, five day,
(12:18):
or seven day cruise, I highlyrecommend it. Okay you got a job,
now, Okay, you got toget us on. Okay, definitely,
and we'll do a whole show onthem. Oh and the whole ship.
We're talking to the food and beverageeverything. Hey, it's what she
musing. Does we work together?Yeah? No, really, I would
love to do something. I gottalking about you really? You really it
sounded so unusual, so different, and I think our foodies would love that.
(12:41):
So yeah, yeah, talk afterwards. Yeah, okay, definitely my
best friend next to Izzy, secondbest friend. So wow. Yeah,
But to ask you a question, were you full? Uh? You know
what I think? Because it wasa nice, slow paced dinner. How
long was it? Maybe with anhour and a half maybe two hours?
(13:03):
Yeah it was. Yeah, wedon't watch it's like, uh yeah,
keep bringing more and more. Uh, but you know the portions were just
perfect. I pretty much cleaned myplate. So I did really, I
(13:24):
did really well on that one.Wow. Now, overall, Princess has
really good food. I've heard nothingbut pretty good things about that. They
really don't. I'm sorry I cutyou off. I've been on Norwegian,
I've been on I've been a bunchof them, but I haven't been on
the Princess. I don't believe.Yeah, I think this is going to
be your first time. You know, a lot of people assume that when
(13:45):
you're on a cruise ship the onlyplace to eat is the buffet, and
the buffet has its place, youknow, if you come back from an
excursion late at night. Yeah,or like you said, you're in a
hurry. And I've I actually amreally happy with a buffet because I like
to kind of I can choose andtaste a little bit of this and that.
But their dining room experience, whichis free, it's always included in
(14:07):
the fair, is something not tobe missed. It's white table, white
linen tablecloths, and you you alwayshave a main server and then his assistant,
and then you also have someone thatbrings your drink so much so,
Yeah, the food is exquisite andyou have a different menu every night,
(14:28):
but you also have standards. Soif you have certain things that you just
you're just a hamburger guy through andthrough. You want that hamburger every night,
you can get that. And bestof all, if you have a
hamburger and it's not good, guesswhat, I don't want this, I
want something else. Oh my gosh, Jack, I want two of those.
They'll do that. For you. They'll bend over backwards to maybe make
it. That's on most cruises,I think, and which is a really
(14:50):
good thing. That's why I don'tcomplain too much, because if you don't
like something, okay, fine,it's bad, then get something else.
Yeah, you know, I haveother issues with you know, like menus
saying one thing and what you getis completely separate. Oh right, that's
another issue we'll deal with one day. But no, Princess. I've heard,
you know, really good things aboutthat. So and you two have
(15:13):
decided to upgrade to the Princess Pluspackage. Right, well, let's talk
about that. We're going next September, I mean August, the end of
August. It's a sixteen day cruiseto Alaska and it's inside outside. Do
you have the information on that.I do. It's actually it's August of
twenty twenty five, so yes,it's a year from August. Save your
(15:33):
money, yes, And what's wonderfulis right now, it's only a ninety
nine dollars deposit per person. Ican't beat that, and it's thirty five
percent off. And what's really amazingfor families is the third or fourth passenger
that shares your cabin are free. They only have to pay the taxes and
port fees, so that's like nothing. So don't know how long that sale
(15:58):
is gonna last. That particular cruiseis the only cruise not just from Princess,
but the only cruise period that goesdirectly from Los Angeles up through Alaska
and then round trip back to LosAngeles. So no flying, no running.
Yeah, we were I was ona one so and I think we
flew to I want to say Vancouver, yes, and we did all the
(16:21):
running around there. Then we hadto fly back and you know, when
you had airfair and everything else,it's expensive and it costs just as much
to do it for a seven daycruise. This is a sixteen day cruise,
yes, So when you save themoney for traveling and everything, it's
such a good deal. But youget to see so much more because there's
going to be a total of sixports plus one full day of cruising through
(16:41):
the glaciers, right, and that'ssomething that is very relaxing and it's magnificent.
I didn't want to go to Alaska, really, but my director said,
no, we got to do aTV show there, so we did.
We did a let's sign out show, and I was glad we did.
I mean there was moments when thiswas the last cruise out Winner is
the very last cruise, so everythingwas seventy five percent off, and oh
(17:03):
but you're standing on the bow theship. It's it's misty and cold and
rainy as it should be, butyou're just like, wow, you didn't
care. It's like we just satthere and looked and it was I mean
TV doesn't really you know, showthat. No, And that's why I
want to bring is he's gonna loveit. You haven't been there. I've
never been to Alaska, so thisis like I was like, this is
(17:25):
great a bank it all out ininner passage, outer passage, no stress.
It's the running to gate to getmeet the you know, like,
oh my god, I go tomiss a connecting flight or whatever. I
do this Monday through Friday on aweekly basis. So on my vacation I
ratherly cut that all out. Sothis is like I just need drive to
port or uber to the port, literally get on the ship, and then
(17:48):
I can shut it off for twoweeks. I don't have to worry about
anything. This is gonna be likethe I totally look forward to try to
do some specials there with our group. Uh, other people are coming with
us listeners and it should be justa lot of fun. And again,
this is the only one out ofLos Angeles, So if you ever want
to go to Alaska, you're gonnahave to do look into traveling, look
(18:11):
into airfares and all that stuff, because it's gonna cost you. Yeah,
and especially if you go a nightbefore you get to stay at a hotel,
which I would highly recommend rather thango from the airport directly to the
harbor. But again, you knowit's it's yeah, it's round trip from
LA I mean all the food youwant, all the drinks you want for
you can buy packages too, yeh. Food packaging, I mean drink packages,
(18:33):
beverage packaging, and you know WiFi and stuff like that. Yeah,
and we could customize the trip tofit your needs and your time frame
and your budget, so that's notan issue. And from the Inland Empire
it's only maybe an hour and ahalf drive. But once you get there
is you you get on the ship, you unpack one time and makes a
(18:56):
difference. It's your home away fromhome. Yeah. Yeah, that's why
I like to have the round tripto one destination. I just the running
around and you know, we lovethe trip we went to Asia. It
was tons of running around. Butif you weren't relaxing, that was not
it. Yeah, So this iswhat I'm looking forward to, something more
relaxing, lower, you know, slower pace. I get to do wine,
(19:18):
and I'm not all the knots I'vebeen working on for the last you
know, year or so. Andeverybody that's that's traveled on Princess Ship,
they all agree they have the bestmattresses. Good. They are so comfortable
you will get a wonderful night's sleep. And I've even but you know,
(19:40):
they have what's called movies under thestars where on the on the pool deck
they have a big screen TV andthey have the padded lounge chairs. They
give you blankets, they have freepopcorn and chocolate chip cookies. And I
think we'll make it through the Yeah, I have. I have partially fallen
(20:03):
asleep there a couple of times, but and there, and they're fairly first
run movies, maybe maybe a monthout after they've they've left the theaters,
but still it will be a firstrun for me. And I even had
I even had the opportunity to watchthe In twenty twenty three, when I
was on the World Cruise, Iwatched the Super Bowl on the big screen.
(20:25):
We had a huge deck party.I painted a big casey on my
face, oh club, because ofcourse I was rooting for the Chiefs and
they won. Yay, and uh. Anyway, there's just the there's so
much that you could do that I'dbe have to be here a week to
tell you all. We can workon that. So yeah. I listened
to let's sign out right here onAM ten fifty one six point five FM,
(20:48):
the stations I leave the little behind. See. I was alone first
time. I mean, if youlook at the side with us is Betsy
Webber from Connection to Cruise. Andif people want to get a hold of
you, what's the best way todo it. You can reach me directly
at area code nine zero nine fivefive six nine five three nine, or
(21:10):
you can contact Connection to Cruise eitheron their website or call their number which
is nine zero nine seven nine eightnine one three three. We'll get a
number out later too, thank you. Okay, you know a lot of
people the negative thing about cruising thatsome people think it's too long. I
could never be on a cruise thatlong. There's so much going on there,
(21:30):
even things that you don't want toget involved with, you get involved
with, like bingo and everything, lectures and bingos and hair things and massages
and sports and I mean you nameit, exercise, they've got it there.
And especially with kids too. Everyevery almost every cruise line has incredibly
really good what do you call kidsclubs? When I got divorced, one
(21:55):
time, I brought My kids arereally young at the time, and I
never saw them. Yeah, Ithought it'd be a good time to bond
with daddy and kid. I neversaw them, honestly, all the time,
Hi Dad, by Dad. Rightat nighttime, they sit up for
the midnight of bay and then Isee them coming in and that's it.
It was safe. They had somuch fun. Yeah, and I really
learned a lot from it. Andthe kids clubs are free. It's free
(22:17):
babysitting. How can you not lovethat? And they give them T shirts,
they give them all kinds of artsand craft things. Yeah. And
this this leig which I'm wearing,I'm dressed specifically because you know, I
am your favorite planner, so Iwanted to dress like I was on vacation.
But I actually made this lay atone of the craft classes. Cool
(22:37):
at one of the craft classes onboard the ship. Uh, there are
so many activities. I can't doeverything that I want to do now.
The crews that were going on againnext year. Yeah, the first it's
a twenty. It's they pay perperson thirty five percent off for two people.
The next two people are free.If you want to bring in your
same cabin, yeah, if youwant to bring your mother in law on
a child, you can do that, yes, absolutely, Wow, it
(23:00):
doesn't matter. They don't have tobe children, they can be adults,
but you do need to share thecap. Technically, if I could be
the adult and I can, Ican with Izzy, I can say she's
my child. No, it haswell should a knock like one. That's
another issue. But or actually itdoesn't. It doesn't have to be too
adults. It could be one adultand three children for example. Wow,
(23:21):
you can't beat that. Yeah.Uh so you're paying for the first two
fras, but then the second twofairs regardless of no way, you can
share the whole experience with your childor children. And what a time to
get together and do things as afamily. There's no outside pressures. You
don't need a phone if you don'twant it, but you can use your
phone on board. You can. They do have WiFi, the best WiFi
(23:44):
at sea. Actually, uh,you're going to get that free of charge
with your Princess Plus package. Soyou say that too loud, My work
might want to contact to Okay,we'll keep that part to ourselves. So
if you if you have you putyour phone on Wi Fi. You can
talk on the phone or just talkthrough Facebook, you know, FaceTime people.
(24:10):
You can still you know, playyour your video games or whatever you
do on your phone. You cando a show there. Oh cool show.
If we want to do the showon the phone in on a cruise
in Alaska. Do you think wecould do that? If you bring me
along? Hey, you could beour third kid. Yeah, there you
(24:32):
go. I have an idea. He's not sure in my room. Anyway,
I wanted to tell you these arethe ports that we'll be stopping at.
Okay, So the first port we'regonna we're gonna head straight up to
Uh. We leave out of SanPedro right and they have a very safe
(24:52):
parking lot that you can keep yourcar there or like you said, you
can uber have you up. Yeah, it's it's really easy. Uh.
Anyway, we're going to be goingto Juneo, which is the capital,
and that's where the Mendenhall Glacier is. It's really nice. And then they
have a the Mount Robert skytram thattakes you to the top of the mountain.
They have really really good restaurant atthe top with an amazing spectacular view
(25:18):
after and there's enough time that youcould do both in one day. Also
a great destination for whale watching, which is what I did this last August.
Yes, that was exciting. Andthen from there to Skagway where they
have the whites Pass railroad that takesyou up into the Yukon. Now is
there enough time for that? That'sa separate, separate port. So you
(25:41):
can spend the day in Skagway anddo the train trip, which I have
always recommended except this last year.I did you know? The train goes
along the side of a huge ravineand when you're on the train you can
see there's a road on the otherside and you could see buses occasionally pass.
(26:03):
Well, I decided I want tosee what the heck is on the
other side. So they have abus that takes you to the very top
in the Yukon you actually go intoCanada, and at the top they have
a suspension bridge that goes over thishuge gorge. It was just outstanding.
It was so beautiful. And thenon the way back they take you to
(26:25):
this little village where you have asalmon bake with the blueberry cobbler for dessert.
Yeah, it was really, reallynice. So I'm kind of torn
between referring the train. What Iliked about that it was like a clog
the old clog train. Oh yeah, it's very old, old fashioned fashion,
and it's like clock clock. Imean it's all gears and everything.
It's very different. I mean Isound like a train right clock clock.
(26:48):
Any bad things. We never sawany animals. I was looking show me
a bear, show me something,have a mural. I don't care.
Well, the last time we wereon the Skagway, the train whites passed.
You know, I'm trying to takepictures through the windows, and I
have to tell you, I myhusband knows I am really afraid of heights
ordinarily, but something about being onvacation or putting a camera in my face.
(27:11):
Yeah, it goes out. Itjust goes out the window, so
I couldn't take pictures as well asI wanted to through the windows. So
they have these little iron step justbetween the cars. It's only like maybe
a foot or two wide. Ismoving, the train is moving and there's
nothing but a little skinny chain andyeah, and you look through the bottom.
(27:37):
It's a great and you could seethe rails going past you and everything,
and of course you know when thetrain's coming around to bend. I
wanted to get a really good shotof the front of the train, so
I have to lean away. Yeah, don't even think about it. But
I saw a black bear and Ibanged down the window and I said,
there's a bear. There's a bear. A body in the car. I
(28:00):
thought the trade was gonna tip overthere, but by the time we went
past it, unfortunately they just gota brief glimpse. So, uh,
yeah, I did. I wasreally lucky to see a bear at that
time. And that was early inthe year. That was in I've been
in uh Alaska, May, July, August, and September, and this
(28:23):
last trip was August, and Ihave to say that that was the best
time I saw more animals. Isaw the salmon running in ketcha Can.
I mean, where do they windup? Was it? Which city was
it? Ketch Can is the salmoncapital. That's where you have thousands and
thousands you want to jump in andtake some to take home for locks.
(28:47):
Yeah, I mean I've never seenso much salmon and oh my god,
no, don't die. No,yeah, it was. It was really
thrilling. I walked down to thecreek and we watched them, you know,
swimming up river. And then wego to the ladder where you see
them, you know, chomping outof the water to get up that.
No, that's catch cat catch Can. Okay, So okay, Juno first,
(29:07):
then Juno first, and then Skagway. I'm want to make sure I
get the order right. And thenit's a small picture, so I'm not
sure I have the exact order right. But then Icy Street Point, which
was a new destination they added onour second to the last trip. Uh,
it's a Huna is the city there. It's very small, but they
(29:29):
have what do they call that zipline? They have a big zipline there,
so it's a very adventurous place.Look. Yeah, yeah, and I've
got pictures of the tram that goesto the top of the mountain. I
did go on the zip line, but we took the tram and I'm not
kidding you, it went straight up. I think I would have been better
(29:52):
off on the zip line, totell you the truth. And then it's
a very very short walk from theship to town and there's a place that
sells fresh homemade donuts in the morning, and everybody was coming back with their
little bag of warm donuts. Sothat that's that's something to look forward to.
And then Sitca. I cannot tellyou anything about Sitca because I have
(30:17):
not been there on all four cruises. This is a brand new destination,
at least for me. So they'rethey're adding Sitcu. But from what I
hear, everybody loves it. It'sit's much more, uh you know,
it's not as built up or touristoriented. Yeah, so I think that
everybody will love that. And thenwhat I really love is on the way
(30:37):
back, we get to stop inVictoria, British Columbia. Did you do
that one? It's just beautiful andreally it's a it's a very short ride
into the downtown area. You cantake a bus or at tax your it's
a small yes, yeah, AndI mean botanical gardens are my passion and
(31:03):
I definitely recommend but shark gardens. But if you can't go, the city
itself has so many flowering plants andtrees and totem poles. I mean.
And August is the best time togo to British Columbia because it's actually very
sunny of this most sun in thattime of year. Yes, actually worked
(31:23):
up there and we spent I thinktwo weeks going just around and like renting
a low boat and everything, goingaround the islands and go to Victoria and
it's just beautiful weather. I mean, you know, usually it's always rainy
and cold, but this that timeof year, August, it's like prime
(31:44):
time, perfect to be outside. In fact, the last time we were
in Victoria, I had the cutestlittle, you know, vest, furry
vest with a long sleeve sweater. It was Oh, I just felt so
styling. And by they got toby the time I got to the city,
I went into the Empress Hotel andI bought a T shirt because I
was dying. I was so hothotel there. Yes, that's their teeth,
(32:07):
their high tea. Yeah, wewent there, but it was all
closed out. But they also doa tea ceremony at Butchart Gardens, which
I recommend. Yeah, we didthat where you have the little sandwiches and
the petty forest before you go,but you'll be hungry. Yeah. Well,
anyway, it's a nice experience anyway, and the fact that we have
(32:28):
a small group going, you know, we we tie the reservations together so
that we can dine together, whichbrings me to what's new in UH in
cruising, Princess Thank Goodness has goneback to their old way of dining,
which is, uh you either haveearly seating, late seating, or anytime
(32:52):
dining. What that means is youcan select ahead of time if you want
to eat as early as five orsix o'clock or as late as eight o'clock,
and if you're not sure, yougo to there's one restaurant that's specifically
for walk ins, and sometimes youcould go straight in. Sometimes you might
have to stand and wait a littlebit like you would at any restaurant.
(33:14):
But they had tried, you know, doing the reservation for set time,
and it just was not working.Yeah, it was just a little too
confusing for everybody. So by thetime we go on that cruise. They
I think actually by this September they'regoing to have it switched over. Now,
how many other restaurants do they haveon the ship, don't they?
(33:37):
Oh? Okay? So they havethe three main dining road okay, which
are all included. They also havehuff They have the buffet which is huge.
Yeah, and they changed the menusdaily. Let's see, they have
a hamburger stand where they also sellchicken hot dogs. Yeah, but they
(34:00):
have something new. They even havelobster the lobster sandwich, losterol, lobsterol.
Thank Yeah. So that they havea pizza stand where, you know,
every day they have a specialty pizzaand you know, I just really
(34:20):
love grabbing a slice of pizza outthere by the pool and a soda.
I mean, there's nothing like that. But they do have the Alfredo's.
It's the name is different depending onthe ship. It's either Gigi's or it's
Alfredos, but it's the same concept. And they have cal zones and salads
and uh really delicious pizzas, icecream ice uh not at that restaurant,
(34:45):
but they have They do have agelato bar and your Princess Plus package entitles.
Hugh, it's ridiculous. Two giantwe're talking foot at least a foot
tall. Gelato Sundays to each everysingle day, every day, every day.
So what they did is they balancethat out by giving you a free
(35:07):
fitness class each day. A littlebit silly, but a diabetic coma really
you Yeah, we only did itone time. That was speaking of which,
if you come with some nutritional issues, you know, a little carb
or yes, or you know thatlittle salis of kosher, they take care
of all that, don't they.Yes, you could arrange for it ahead
(35:29):
of time through the princess app throughthe medallion. But if you if you
don't do that ahead of time, you just speak to your waiter or your
matre d and they will has aproblem with peanuts and she just you know,
they ask us you have any allergies? Is there anything you don't want
on something? You know, onionsor garlic? And I mean every time
they knew you, every time,it was really funny. You could go
(35:51):
to the same table, they knowyou, they know, here's your drink.
You don't have to ask for it. And what's nice is you literally
only have to ask for it onetime because the medallion. I know,
I spoke a little bit about themedallion. It's different, it is,
and it's unique only to Princess Cruises, and every single ship in their fleet
uses a medallion. It's about thesize of an uh AirPod AirPod and I
(36:17):
wear mine on my wrist. Theygive you a free land you'rd you could
buy clips, you could wear itas a pretty necklace. You can.
But what's nice is, for example, when you get to the port and
you already you've already ordered your medallions, they come to you in the mail.
The check in process is a breeze. I mean just like three minutes
(36:42):
nothing, it's so easy. Andthen once you're on board and you're within
three three feet of your cabin,it automatically unlocks the door for you.
So when you have your hands fullof those you know, the pizza from
the pool deck, or or theluscious desserts from the Sunday International Cafe just
(37:04):
by the way, open twenty fourhours, panini, sandwiches, soups,
salads, desserts. I'm looking atAlan. Yeah, yeah, you know,
it's so active. There's time aboutthere's times you're so busy during the
day and at nighttimes. Sometimes youcan't sleep. It's two o'clock. What
do you dot? Yeah, godown to the International Cafe and they're right
(37:27):
next door. They have room servicetoo, right of course, yeah,
room service, but the selections thesmaller. Yeah, the selections at the
International Cafe are so delightful. Andthey do have bowls of fresh fruit,
so you don't have to you don'thave to indulge if you don't want to,
and you can get a decaf coffeeright next door and head back up
to your room. Actually your roomis on the same floor. You only
(37:51):
have to walk about fifty feet.Sorry I made it too. Bring uscooter
you don't even have to walk forit pays the schmooth. I'm telling you
folks what you get. Go again. You'll listen to let's sign out,
y'all right here on AM ten fiftyone oh six point five, I found
the stations that leaven know. Listenerbehind and with us is Betsy Weber.
She's from Connection to Cruise. Thisis I've never met anybody that's gone more
(38:15):
cruises. I'm not sure even MARLSSand Georgia. But you guys have you
been on so many cruises? Andthis is a special one that we're going
to. It's a Princess one. It's leaving Los Angeles Harbor, which is
San Pedro Long Beach. So forall of us who live in the in
the umpire, he just uber there. I would suggest Uber there and basically
uber back, and it's real simpleto get in. They're very organized and
(38:37):
I've heard nothing but great things aboutPrincess. I've never heard of a negative
thing about Princess. Plus. Theonly cruise that's going to the Inner Passage,
the Outer Passage and round trip backto California. Yes, it's a
sixteen day cruise thirty five percent offper person. The third and fourth person
(38:57):
are free in the same cabin. So if you have a brother and sister,
if I mean, you could takeadvantage of this really if you can
stand them in your cabin for sixteendays. Yeah yeah, but even at
thirty five percent off, give themtheir own cabin, yeah, connecting cabin
and then you and then they havedoors that open up between the balcony,
So then you have which we've done, you have a balcony twice as big.
(39:17):
Oh cool, And again the pricesof these are very different. If
you don't care about the scenery, which a lot of times you're gonna be
out there outside any way. Soto be honest, you really don't you
don't get classophobic. You don't reallydon't know. You're not in your room
that much. Number one. Butyou can have inside patch, which is
a cheaper one, and then youcan have the outside. I mean,
you can get as fancy as youwant. But there's all types of different
ones, but they are selling outquickly, that's one thing. So if
(39:39):
you do want to go, whenyou give you all your information again,
okay, Yeah, if you wantto go, you're welcome to give me
a call directly at area code ninezero nine five five six nine five three
nine, or you can contact Connectionto Cruise via their website Connection to Cruise
(40:00):
dot com exactly, and their phonenumber is aery code nine zero nine seven
nine eight nine one three three. Now telling me you heard Betty, Betsy,
Betty, Betty, I'm hungry Betsyon the Let's Sign Out show and
they'll get you'll get right in touchto you apps. And Betsy's really good
about calling back. So yes, especially your food. You just mentioned food,
that you love food and that soshe'll be all all of you too,
(40:22):
So yeah, and I'm happy togive you as little or as much
information as you want. Obviously,I'm passionate about food. I'm passionate about
traveling and especially cruising. And honestly, kid, unless it's so it's not
rough the waters, it's usually reallyreally those ships are gigantic. I mean,
they're not going to roll over likethe Titanic and stuff. I mean,
(40:44):
it's really really good. Plus you'renever going to be bored there.
There's so much to do if youjust want to kick back and read.
Yeah, there's so many nooks andcrannies you can good. They have a
library. Yeah, libraries are Theyhave all kinds of women, crass and
crafts, anything you think of thatyou somebody might like to do when they're
relaxing. I mean that is theway to Literally it's a no brainer.
(41:08):
I mean, you don't have togo far for food, you don't have
to go far to do anything youlike, and literally you can just switch
it all off. You know. It's like the ideal location for me.
Plus a good thing too about travelingon a cruise is you get to different
spots to go to. This isjust Alaska, but if you go to
a different country, like we wenton we went to Macau, went to
(41:30):
Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam. Youknow, we've never been there before,
so now we're able to go tosee some things. So now we know
where we want to go back exactly. It's kind of an a loose boosh.
Yeah, you get a little tasteof each city and then you know,
okay, that's the For example,Ketchri Cant just happens to be my
favorite of the port. And what'sinteresting about Ketcha Cant is you can only
(41:53):
get there by boat or by plate. It's an island, so it has
that charm that's just a little bitof Nantucket. It's it's amazing. I
love it. But uh yeah,I've had people that have that they're a
little bit nervous about the fact.Okay, what about the weather or what
(42:15):
if there's a storm. I mean, as you said, the ships are
so huge and they have these stabilizersthat you don't feel the rocky at all.
And I would be the first totell you that I don't. I
don't like a lot of movement.I you know, I have to sit
in the front of the car,you know, I can't sit in the
back seat. But you know there'sso many different uh you know, supplements
(42:38):
that you can take that non drowsy. Uh. There's ginger candies, there's
a ginger gum. There's these wristbandsthat they had medical staff there. Oh.
Yes, as he got sick onhad nothing to do with the cruise.
She just got you know, andsaw doctor there, very very nice
doctor called the room up to makesure she's okay. I mean, it
was just like your own private doctors. So it's there's really no fear.
(43:00):
Yeah, and even if there wereyou know, uh, heaven forbid an
emergency. Uh. I've been onon a a cruise where they they stopped
the ship and a helicopter flew outand they airlifted the passenger to safety.
So I mean, you don't haveto feel like you're on an island.
(43:20):
You're you're you're covered in the UnitedStates territory. That's the other thing.
That's another country. Yeah, you'renot around country really. Yeah. The
further the fartherest you go in isCanada, and that's literally a neighbor.
So you know you're going to gethome really quickly if anything happened. And
we always recommend travel insurance it's purelyoptional, but it's such a good idea
because you are completely covered not onlyfor any medical uh situations that could arrive,
(43:47):
but for lost or damaged luggage, which fortunately has never happened to me,
or if for some reason, uh, you have a medical issue where
you have to counsel your cruise, for example, at the last it and
maybe you'll want to reschedule it,that part is covered. Well. That
happened to me once and one timeI had insurance. One time I did
(44:07):
and so that one time I didn'tbe lost on me. But yeah,
it happens. So yeah, andwe you know, at connection to Cruz,
we can certainly handle that for you. And if you do select a
cruise that involves air flight, wecan arrange that for you as well.
We want to make we want tomake your vacation as relaxful as possible.
(44:29):
