First on the docket. First on the docket, Sam brought
up a good point about how the Devils have already
started making moves. In the first move that we're going
to be talking about tonight, because why not is the
illustrious move of one Aeric Halla. Now the trade back
to Nashville, where Eric Halla once played, so it's a
place that he's familiar with. The return back not bad.

It's we get a draft pick from the Nashville and
we also get a defensive prospect. So looking at this
from Afar, it saves the three point five million dollars
or it gets his three point five million dollars out
the book. It is a move that a lot of
people kind of thought was going to happen or something

similar was gonna happen, just because of Fitzgerald's remarks about
the lack of production from the bottom six at the
end of the year and holding people kind of accountable.
Do you feel that this is the preemptive summer of
big moves or do you feel like there's just gonna
be some tinkering. Do you think there's gonna be a

small move here and there, nothing, nothing too wild. I'm
kind of I'm kind of curious, because not shocked, but
I was kind of like, wow, it happened quick already, so.

Well, I mean, FITZI has said team's not coming back
looking the same way that it did last year, So
there's definitely gonna be a lot of moves made. I
think the biggest one is going to be an internal
promotion of one Luke Hughes, you know, getting himself a

nice fat, long term deal, which will be very cool.
But other than that, I mean, yeah, I think you're
looking at almost a completely new bottom six coming in here.

So Halla was.

One of the ones that a lot of Devil's fans
were asking about. You know, haulland Palot basically are the
two that you are the member.

down year. He showed some life there at the end
of the season, but then you know, he went really
cold in the playoffs when you know we needed him
the most. So tough, but it is what it is.

I think it's, you know, for the better of the team.
You know, we'll see what they're able to do with Plot.
I think Lot is gonna get one more year in
in Jersey before he I mean, if fits he can
do it, okay, great, but I think we'll have one
more year with in Jersey and uh yeah, I mean, like,
I think there's gonna be a big difference in that bottom.

But I mean, I think a lot of that stuff
might come from I don't see. I don't think, I
guess to answer your question, I'm gonna go with no,
I don't think. I don't know if it's gonna be
big blockbuster type of deal. The big blockbuster deal is
going to be Luke signing. So I think it's gonna
be a lot of little pieces, if that's what you
were kind of more alluding to. I think there's gonna
be a lot of little pieces.

I think you know, you're gonna see the chance from
bu you know now that he signed, you know, gritz
Yuk is coming in. That was the finished kid that
they just that they signed as well. I think you're
gonna see a lot of these these guys get you know,
looks in training camp and then we'll see what happens.

Well, I know, you know, and I know they're talking
about it over here. Max just said, you know, Cody
Glass was qualified at two point five million, so they
might be trying to back. They might be trying to
bring him back on a cheaper deal. Cheaper.

other day. I was shocked when I read that because
of all the of all the bottom sick, bottom six,
I was like, all right, that's the one dude who's
definitely coming back next year. But yeah, maybe they're gonna

sure see what the market is for him. He's still
a really young guy. But I can't see Bastion coming back.

You get to put Nolan Foot probably in that position,
like I said, the chance, we'll get his chance training camp,
you know. And he's a big, big kid, likes the
clear house. You know, he's captain of that Boston University
team from when he was like a sophomore, so he's

just a natural born leader. Having him, you know, down
there on that third or fourth line, you know, only
he's you know, he's not projected to be a top
six type player, but he could be a solid dude
down there on the third and four with lines, you know,
for years to come. You got to see how he does.
Of course, it's always a transition there, but he's a
big boy, likes to clear the front of that net.

And yeah, a good friend, you Goorov isn't that far
off either too.

So well, here's here's a scenario too, though, that I
kind of want to throw out there, because you know,
the tinkering around. Giving a lot of these guys, these
these you know a chance, you know, all these guys
a shot is a great idea. But the only problem
is is how is Fitzgerald looking at this? Because is

he looking at this as like we have time or
is he looking at this like I need to make
this viable right now?

And he's looking that's like I don't have a lot
of money. I don't know a lot of room. I
gotta I gotta resign Luke Cues and that's gonna be

Halo was was very big. You know, if they could
somehow moved a lot, then it would be ampletely different story.
But I think right now it's just how am I
going to remake this bottom six and not do it

Yeah, well, it's it could be retooling with a couple
of guys from the farm team, you know, from Utica,
bringing a couple of those guys and giving them a
real shot.

Yeah, place a bastion and and you know what, you
hate to see some guys go because you know, Eric
Hollo was a good teammate, Nate Bastian was a great
teammate by all accounts. And it's sad because when you
see guys like that go like people that you like,
it's like, yeah, it's a bummer, But that's part of
the business. I'm kind of curious if you know, there's

a there's still a lot of smoke going on with
the whole quinnhugheson. Now. Who knows what's going to happen
with it. It could be a lot of nothing. It
could be just a lot of you know, hot air
getting blown around and he's gonna be a free agent,
not next year, but I think the year after. So
does he you know, do the Devil's just waited out
and hopefully, uh, you know, make that happen. It's just

when you have a lot of these things going on
and who knows what the hell you know he wants
to do. But Fitzgerald has he has to really look
at it, like how big is this window? We just
saw the Florida Panthers based you know, beat the hell
out of everybody on their way to their their second
Stanley Cup Final, which, by the way, anybody that was
sitting there saying like Sam Bennett, Sam Bennett, Sam Bennett,
him win in the cons might just go way too high.

It would be it would be great.

Everyone would love Sam Bennett on their team. But yeah,
his he's he's getting a pretty big raise.

He's gonna get a big raise, but he's also is
it gonna be one of those contracts that's gonna age? Well,
I let dude, I would love to have Sam Bennett
on the Devils. I think he would be, of course,
a perfect fit for this team. I think he would
fit into you know, adding some more grit, some toughness,
obviously playoff experience through the roof. But I'm not gonna

pay him ten million dollars a year, you know, for
eight years or whatever that's gonna be, because he's probably
gonna be looking around that area and not only can
the Devil's not afford to do it right now. But
unless they move some major pieces like a Dougie Hamilton
and a pilot, I don't think it's a contract that
you want to get into long term.

So no, agree, they would have to move some of
those bigger pieces, or you know, they're just gonna have
to wait until the cap goes up, you know, a
little bit more and more each year, and they could
have some more wiggle room. But yeah, right now, Sam
Bennett's gonna command quite a hefty, hefty command there. So unfortunately,

do not see Sam Bennett in the Devil's future. I
did see another Florida pant there loosely attached if he
does hit the market, and that would be one mister
Brad mar chen M formerly of the Boston Bruins, now

all of the potential and all the tools to be

be like, hey, we'll take who's that Palote guy you
got over there? Will take him. He's what seventy three

years old? That guy's good, it's good. I remember him
from the Tampa days. They're not gonna do that. They're
not gonna like give you like a deal, so they're
gonna rake you over the coals because they're gonna be like, well,
we know you want them. So if you wait until
free agency, that gives you another year, and it also
gives time for an image or Casey to like really

step up and to prove their worth. The thing that
this this season is tricky because, like I said before,
last year, with the amount of injuries, the Devil's kind
of they made the playoffs, we won one game. But
with a healthy squad, we all know that they would

have been or at least we can all imagine they
would have would have gone a little bit deeper further
than the first round. I feel like they would have
been able to match up with Carolina hell of a
lot better than they did, and they could have given
some other teams some fits. But it is what it is.
They got into the playoffs, everybody was hurt, everybody's broken,
everybody's shoulders are broken, and they win one game and

that was it. This year, you have to look at
it as is this a make or break year? You
can't miss the playoffs. I feel like that is a
absolute no. But you can't keep messing around like, oh, well,
well we will wait. We'll wait for Quinn. We'll wait
for Quinn. We'll wait for Quinn, whether it's one year

or two years or whatever it is. Because you don't
want to sit there in an idle, because you got
you got guys that are in their prime. You got Nico,
you have Jack, you have contracts that are gonna be
coming up soon. You think Nico Hesher wants to stay
here forever. And just like limbo, like yeah, it's cool
that we're for you know, team's progressing in the right direction,
but at some point you got to make that big

jump and guess what, there's a big bad team. There's
something I want to talk about in a minute, but like,
there's a big bad team in the Florida Panthers. Who
that's a big obstacle that we're gonna have to get over.
So are we building a team that's just gonna make
the playoffs? So you're going to build a team that's like, yeah,
you can go on a serious run.

Well, I mean that's obviously, that's obviously the goal I
think with rebuilding that bottom six, because you need to
be able to run all your lines out there. It
can't just be reliant on your top two lines to
do everything. So you have to rebuild that bottom six

to get that secondary scoring that was desperately you know needed.
And yeah we had a lot of defensive injuries again,
but injuries happen to everyone, so you're gonna have to
power through it. It's the playoffs. Everyone does it, and
that's what they're gonna have to learn how to do.
But I think they're I think they're in a good

everybody's in bathing suits and bikinis and whatever, it was
like pretty freaking cold out when they were filming it.
I yeah, I'm the same way. I like a history
buff on that movie. I love that movie. But anyways,
my final thoughts are, the off season is here. Boys.
It is summertime, so that means there's gonna be a
lot of change. There's gonna be a lot of things

going on. Time to get excited for what the season
has to hold. Hopefully everybody's getting better and getting healthier,
like Jack and Luke and Timo and jasper and everybody surprised.
Like surgeries that they announced at the end of the year.
I would like to see our general manager be active
and busy over the next couple of weeks. I will

be on a cruise this time next week, so I
will be away on a sign So I'm gonna have
to wait to find out what happens, which is always
interesting because I don't have the Internet package because I'm
not paying fifty bucks a day for internet. It's stupid.
It's a great way to cut off from reality. Man,
just put your your phone into the safe and just

lock that son of a bitch up for a week
and just check in and check out. But anyways, so
fun thing is when you hit your destination, you get
to turn on your phone for a minute and be like, dang.

That was actually the same thing when they made it official.

was like, oh, it's official, so it's kind of fun.

up a good point about how the Devils have already
started making moves. In the first move that we're going
to be talking about tonight, because why not is the
illustrious move of one Aeric Halla. Now the trade back
to Nashville, where Eric Halla once played, so it's a
place that he's familiar with. The return back not bad.

It's we get a draft pick from the Nashville and
we also get a defensive prospect. So looking at this
from Afar, it saves the three point five million dollars
or it gets his three point five million dollars out
the book. It is a move that a lot of
people kind of thought was going to happen or something

similar was gonna happen, just because of Fitzgerald's remarks about
the lack of production from the bottom six at the
end of the year and holding people kind of accountable.
Do you feel that this is the preemptive summer of
big moves or do you feel like there's just gonna
be some tinkering. Do you think there's gonna be a

small move here and there, nothing, nothing too wild. I'm
kind of I'm kind of curious, because not shocked, but
I was kind of like, wow, it happened quick already, so.

Well, I mean, FITZI has said team's not coming back
looking the same way that it did last year, So
there's definitely gonna be a lot of moves made. I
think the biggest one is going to be an internal
promotion of one Luke Hughes, you know, getting himself a

nice fat, long term deal, which will be very cool.
But other than that, I mean, yeah, I think you're
looking at almost a completely new bottom six coming in here.

One of the ones that a lot of Devil's fans
were asking about. You know, haulland Palot basically are the
two that you are the member.

down year. He showed some life there at the end
of the season, but then you know, he went really
cold in the playoffs when you know we needed him
the most. So tough, but it is what it is.

I think it's, you know, for the better of the team.
You know, we'll see what they're able to do with Plot.
I think Lot is gonna get one more year in
in Jersey before he I mean, if fits he can
do it, okay, great, but I think we'll have one
more year with in Jersey and uh yeah, I mean, like,
I think there's gonna be a big difference in that bottom.

But I mean, I think a lot of that stuff
might come from I don't see. I don't think, I
guess to answer your question, I'm gonna go with no,
I don't think. I don't know if it's gonna be
big blockbuster type of deal. The big blockbuster deal is
going to be Luke signing. So I think it's gonna
be a lot of little pieces, if that's what you
were kind of more alluding to. I think there's gonna
be a lot of little pieces.

I think you know, you're gonna see the chance from
bu you know now that he signed, you know, gritz
Yuk is coming in. That was the finished kid that
they just that they signed as well. I think you're
gonna see a lot of these these guys get you know,

Well, I know, you know, and I know they're talking
about it over here. Max just said, you know, Cody
Glass was qualified at two point five million, so they
might be trying to back. They might be trying to
bring him back on a cheaper deal. Cheaper.

other day. I was shocked when I read that because
of all the of all the bottom sick, bottom six,
I was like, all right, that's the one dude who's
definitely coming back next year. But yeah, maybe they're gonna

sure see what the market is for him. He's still
a really young guy. But I can't see Bastion coming back.

You get to put Nolan Foot probably in that position,
like I said, the chance, we'll get his chance training camp,

there on that third or fourth line, you know, only
he's you know, he's not projected to be a top
six type player, but he could be a solid dude
down there on the third and four with lines, you know,
for years to come. You got to see how he does.
Of course, it's always a transition there, but he's a
big boy, likes to clear the front of that net.

And yeah, a good friend, you Goorov isn't that far
off either too.

So well, here's here's a scenario too, though, that I
kind of want to throw out there, because you know,
the tinkering around. Giving a lot of these guys, these
these you know a chance, you know, all these guys
a shot is a great idea. But the only problem
is is how is Fitzgerald looking at this? Because is

he looking at this as like we have time or
is he looking at this like I need to make
this viable right now?

And he's looking that's like I don't have a lot
of money. I don't know a lot of room. I
gotta I gotta resign Luke Cues and that's gonna be
half of my That's why I getting you know, moving
Halo was was very big. You know, if they could
somehow moved a lot, then it would be ampletely different story.
But I think right now it's just how am I
going to remake this bottom six and not do it

with spending a whole loads of money?

Yeah, well, it's it could be retooling with a couple
of guys from the farm team, you know, from Utica,
bringing a couple of those guys and giving them a
real shot.

Yeah, I think Nolan Foot will get a shot, you know.

Yeah, place a bastion and and you know what, you
hate to see some guys go because you know, Eric
Hollo was a good teammate, Nate Bastian was a great
teammate by all accounts. And it's sad because when you
see guys like that go like people that you like,
it's like, yeah, it's a bummer, But that's part of
the business. I'm kind of curious if you know, there's

a there's still a lot of smoke going on with
the whole quinnhugheson. Now. Who knows what's going to happen
with it. It could be a lot of nothing. It
could be just a lot of you know, hot air
getting blown around and he's gonna be a free agent,
not next year, but I think the year after. So
does he you know, do the Devil's just waited out
and hopefully, uh, you know, make that happen. It's just

when you have a lot of these things going on
and who knows what the hell you know he wants
to do. But Fitzgerald has he has to really look
at it, like how big is this window? We just
saw the Florida Panthers based you know, beat the hell
out of everybody on their way to their their second
Stanley Cup Final, which, by the way, anybody that was
sitting there saying like Sam Bennett, Sam Bennett, Sam Bennett,
him win in the cons might just go way too high.

It would be it would be great.

Everyone would love Sam Bennett on their team. But yeah,
his he's he's getting a pretty big raise.

He's gonna get a big raise, but he's also is
it gonna be one of those contracts that's gonna age? Well,
I let dude, I would love to have Sam Bennett
on the Devils. I think he would be, of course,
a perfect fit for this team. I think he would
fit into you know, adding some more grit, some toughness,
obviously playoff experience through the roof. But I'm not gonna

pay him ten million dollars a year, you know, for
eight years or whatever that's gonna be, because he's probably
gonna be looking around that area and not only can
the Devil's not afford to do it right now. But
unless they move some major pieces like a Dougie Hamilton
and a pilot, I don't think it's a contract that
you want to get into long term.

So no, agree, they would have to move some of
those bigger pieces, or you know, they're just gonna have
to wait until the cap goes up, you know, a
little bit more and more each year, and they could
have some more wiggle room. But yeah, right now, Sam
Bennett's gonna command quite a hefty, hefty command there. So unfortunately,

you're going to pay him up front because Luke has
all of the potential and all the tools to be
a perennial All Star and Norris, you know, a trophy

care of Luke. If not, you know, I'm sure Jack
and Quinn will just kind of like rabbit punch him

be like, hey, we'll take who's that Palote guy you
got over there? Will take him. He's what seventy three

years old? That guy's good, it's good. I remember him
from the Tampa days. They're not gonna do that. They're
not gonna like give you like a deal, so they're
gonna rake you over the coals because they're gonna be like, well,
we know you want them. So if you wait until
free agency, that gives you another year, and it also
gives time for an image or Casey to like really

step up and to prove their worth. The thing that
this this season is tricky because, like I said before,
last year, with the amount of injuries, the Devil's kind
of they made the playoffs, we won one game. But
with a healthy squad, we all know that they would

have been or at least we can all imagine they
would have would have gone a little bit deeper further
than the first round. I feel like they would have
been able to match up with Carolina hell of a
lot better than they did, and they could have given
some other teams some fits. But it is what it is.
They got into the playoffs, everybody was hurt, everybody's broken,
everybody's shoulders are broken, and they win one game and

that was it. This year, you have to look at
it as is this a make or break year? You
can't miss the playoffs. I feel like that is a
absolute no. But you can't keep messing around like, oh, well,
well we will wait. We'll wait for Quinn. We'll wait
for Quinn. We'll wait for Quinn, whether it's one year

or two years or whatever it is. Because you don't
want to sit there in an idle, because you got
you got guys that are in their prime. You got Nico,

the movie Jaws being released to the masses back in
the day. And I just remember watching that when I
was a kid, and it, you know, scaring the Jesus
said of me about with with sharks and everything and
(55:05):
not wanting to go into the ocean and all that
sort of fun stuff. But yeah, it was a hell
of a friggin movie, man, and some really great acting
performances in it. And if you see the behind the
scenes on how they actually made it, you know, like
not on set, they were out in the ocean doing that.
It was back in that time. The technologies weren't as good,
(55:28):
you know, So boat goes down. That's a lot of
equipment getting salt rusted there down at the bottom of
Arthur's vineyard where they were filming. So yeah, kudos to
them for making just an incredible movie all around and
scaring the living hell at everyone. You know, fifty years
fifty years going now.

It's just crazy to think that's one of my all
time favorite movies too that same as you growing up,
that was like a movie that I watched on repeat,
probably you know, shaped the bizarre o brain that I
have now. But fun fact is, like that movie was
filmed in it was super cold. So all the beach
scenes where you see people in the water and like
(56:09):
everybody's in bathing suits and bikinis and whatever, it was
like pretty freaking cold out when they were filming it.
I yeah, I'm the same way. I like a history
buff on that movie. I love that movie. But anyways,
my final thoughts are, the off season is here. Boys.
It is summertime, so that means there's gonna be a
lot of change. There's gonna be a lot of things
(56:30):
going on. Time to get excited for what the season
has to hold. Hopefully everybody's getting better and getting healthier,
like Jack and Luke and Timo and jasper and everybody surprised.
Like surgeries that they announced at the end of the year.
I would like to see our general manager be active
and busy over the next couple of weeks. I will
(56:53):
be on a cruise this time next week, so I
will be away on a sign So I'm gonna have
to wait to find out what happens, which is always
interesting because I don't have the Internet package because I'm
not paying fifty bucks a day for internet. It's stupid.
It's a great way to cut off from reality. Man,
just put your your phone into the safe and just
(57:16):
lock that son of a bitch up for a week
and just check in and check out. But anyways, so
fun thing is when you hit your destination, you get
to turn on your phone for a minute and be like, dang.
That's how I found out about the team O myer trade.
That was actually the same thing when they made it official.
I was on a cruise and I got somewhere I
was like, oh, it's official, so it's kind of fun.

But anyways, so I will not be here next week

salary and maybe maybe FITSI can can do something about
that bottom six and maybe add one mean glue liner.
