Speaker 1 (01:00):
As I'm in the middle of my fantasy hockey draft, Yes,
fantasy hockey draft, and you know, you get about like
about I don't know minute thirty to make your pick.
And because I'm on live air, you know I'm on
live air, I'm thinking of using all minute thirty just
to piss everybody off.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
That's that's that's what everyone loves. Let me tell you,
in a fantasy draft is the person that uses the
full allotted time every single time.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, so you know I'm going with my strategy. I
drafted third overall kel mccarr. It's hard to get the
guys that could score, you know, And you know my
turn is next Star Power. I don't know who that is.
It's amongst my friends. Now it's my turn. Yeah, a
minute fifteen and Zach Wrensky is on the board of
(01:56):
the BJS, there's Mitch Marner. Jack Hughes is on the board.
Uh what would you do in my situation? Goalie?
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Hm, uh, well you have since you already got my car.
I'd probably go Marner Hughes.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
What about Shasterkin? Should I go with Goalie here? Now?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
M I don't really know fantasy hockey strategy, but I
would say go with Marner or Jack someone who's gonna
put up a lot of points.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
All right, let's see here, but jackets fragile, though, I'll
go with Marner. Nah, nah, nah, Nash, I'll go with
Jack Hughes. Just just and now it's eighteen seconds. I'm
gonna use all eighteen seconds right now. Just a draft man. No,
I'm just kidding around. They're probably pissed off at me.
(02:55):
But I go in the next four spots because I'm
a high up. You know. It just goes round and round.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
I guess I don't know how it's snake draft.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, I don't know that terminology. Look, I am tired
because I had a devastating sports weekend. Scottie, I did. I.
I thought about quitting sports, you know, finding a different
hobby because all my teams suck. I considered not doing
(03:28):
the podcast tonight. I considered not doing this fantasy hockey
draft tonight. After Penn State lost and you know, one
of the more heartbreaking fashioned against the Oregon Ducks in
Happy Valley, I was so depressed. I was also depressed
about the Mets needing to win and the other team
(03:51):
losing the Reds for Sunday. But you know, I was
a little happy that the Mets won on Saturday. But
but that was just absolutely devastating how Pennstey lost in
double overtime. And then nine thirty am came up. I
was thinking, Okay, I'm gonna do some stuff around the
(04:12):
house with missus WU and all that, and I get
the phone call, I get the text, Sam, what are
you doing today? I got an extra ticket for the
Giants game. By the way. I'm picking by the way,
and I'm thinking to myself, Oh, okay, you got an
(04:32):
extra ticket to the Giants game. Hmm yeah, yeaw, what
should I do? You know what I did? I went
to the Giants game because I got coaches Club tickets.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
I wind up I'm usual the Jonas brothers.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Yeah, like I forgot about that, but I'm always the
one that winds up with really nice tickets at the
Metal Lands as you remember.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, well you're you're Sam wu Yeah, that name goes,
that name goes a long way. I just dropped in
getting primo tickets at Giant Stadium or met Life Stadium.
Excuse me, I'm sorry. So yeah, only you get hooked
up there. But it is devastating weekend with Penn State
(05:24):
the Mets doing Mets things. But yeah, how about a
big Giant victory today? We had we had a devil's
loss as well. But you know, pre season two.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Of all right sports squad right right right right right?
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Not just one uh the sense right, yeah, yeah, they
got shut down in that one, sow. Yeah, we're just
the just the Yeah, at least the Giants one.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Okay, so at least you got you got.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
One good thing going on there, and Jackson Dark can
uh hopefully inspire us all with old scataboo. And then
of course you know the lak neighbors goes in.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
There's is a.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
Cl so you know, we can't have nice things for
very long, Sam Woo, come on, now, yeah, no, But
I believe in Jackson Dart. I think he's gonna he's
gonna be a hell of a quarterback over there.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
I'll tell you what I saw because I was ten
roads from mid fifty yard line. That's how close I was.
As old as a stuff in my face with sushi wings,
prime rib, shrimp, crab, crab claws, stone crab. I guess
(06:34):
that is what they say.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Wow, Yeah, I was quite the buffet that you found
your way to.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah. I made it to the game.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Oh okay, did you actually make it?
Speaker 1 (06:46):
I actually made it to the game.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
So did you pass out from a food coma after that?
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Me? Uh no, because I was pretty hyped up about
what's going on about this is why I did see.
I saw Russell will And cheering on his teammate, giving
him directions like a mentor. I also saw Jamis at
Winston engaged with all the players, being the emergency backup quarterback,
(07:16):
you know, third string. I saw a team coming together.
I saw it was a beautiful thing. It was a
wonderful thing, professionalism. I saw a team desperately wanting to
win and it was good. It was a good thing,
and it's amazing how you make a change at quarterback
(07:38):
that now the running back is running better, the kicker,
the guy picked up off the streets from Scotland is kicking. Well.
It's amazing how one player can change the entire atmosphere,
mindset of the entire team. And you know, I thought
I thought it was I thought it was a good
thing and I hope that happens with the Devils.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Well, you never know, it could Maybe it's a young
mister Gritzyuk can be a Jackson Dart type player to
change the the change the feelings of some of the
you know years here or some of some of the
(08:22):
lean years here that are still stinging for Devils fans
because yeah, we did have you know, we had the
split squad today and.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Lost both games.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
But we did get a goal from Nikohescher on the
power play and also someone who I think can develop into.
You know, he's not gonna light the he's not lighting
the lamp every night over here, but I think he's
gonna develop into a very solid NHL player in Shane
(08:55):
la Chance.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
He got a goal as well. Yeah, he's a big boy.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
That was one of those sleeper throw ins from last year.
Via trade am I correct on.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
That, yes, yes, and just everywhere he's gone, he's been
a captain.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
He's a big kid.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
He knows how to get into those areas and man
is he take up a lot of space in front
of that net. And that's how he scored. Earlier today
in the Devil's it was a three to two they
lost to the to the Caps in a shootout. I think,
you know, we have some some young kids that are
(09:38):
maybe flying under the radar elsewhere.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
They're not the big sexy prospect.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Coming through the all the systems, But I think some
of these kids that are coming up right now, in
particular obviously the defenseman.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Look at what Ethan Edwards is doing.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yeah, who was also at Michigan with Luke and Owen Power.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
So I mean.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
We have some of these guys that maybe have been
flying under the radar, and I think we might see
them start to make a difference. I will say, Grits Yuk.
I've been very very impressed with And I don't know
if you saw this or not, Sam Wu and everyone else.
By the way, hello everyone on YouTube. I see you, Dubs,
Ted Steven, what's going on over there? Jason Dubs, Well,
(10:31):
Dubs you bring up a good point. We'll talk about
a little later. The five on five stuff. Yeah, I'm
gonna I'm gonna write it down right now because that
is something that actually.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Was addressed.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
But grits Juke playing with Jack and Jasper, So we
know that may not last all the way into the
season or whatnot, but it's nice to see him bouncing
around and getting to play with you know, that's some
(11:08):
top tier talent right there. And what I really like
about this kid is he shoots. He said he's been
feeling shy. Well he hasn't showed it on the ice
with that stick in his hand because he gets that puck.
He is not afraid to shoot, and he's been shooting
from everywhere and he's put it back in the back
(11:31):
of the net. But I love that kind of like
gamer mentality there.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
Where he's going for it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
And I think that's what the Devils needed all last year,
was that consistency of putting the puck on net. There
were stretches that the Devils were, let's say, getting too
cute out there looking for the perfect shot. You know,
I don't he's gonna rip it. Yeah, I'm not looking
for perfection. I'm looking for results. I don't care how
(12:07):
that puck gets in the net. You gotta put it
on net. If you don't put it on net, you
have zero percent chance of scoring. And you know, and
and there were times when the Devils, you know, you know,
there were times the Devils would have like what ninety
three attempts, thirty would be blocked, but they got like,
(12:28):
you know, about forty five on net. Keep on doing that.
I don't care if it's a quality shot. I don't
care if it's not a quality shot. Just get the
puck on net. Keep the goaltender active the entire time.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Yeah, And I was reading some of those you know,
statistics and stuff like that, but I think he I
think it was he was second in the league at
shots attempted for forwards who have played at least twenty
five minutes or something like that in the preseason so far.
And again it's preseason. We know that a lot of
(13:06):
these players are gonna get sent back down to the
minor leagues and.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Whatever overseas and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
But again, it's just that that mentality, that winner mentality,
that take that shot. Like Sam was saying, sometimes they
it seems like they were getting too too cute out there.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
And we get it, they're that talented that they can
do all.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
That fancy stuff, but having that one person who's just
gonna rip it. I don't know everything that I hear
and see and read about this kid, I really like,
I really hope this works out good for the old
Devils because man, he could be a valued commodity for
(13:58):
a number of years mm hm, and may find his
perfect spot on this team as well.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, and you know what, that's what we were expecting
from Alexander Holts on yes wing and I I was
just thinking that actually, yeah, yeah, and it didn't come
into fruition. Unfortunately, we've moved on from Alexander Holts. I
think what's giving us some hope, not optimism, not pessimism,
(14:30):
but hope is that, you know, these late round draft
picks that the Devils have found overseas sometimes could be
that player. Sometimes it could be that player. And as
I'm drafting right now, I'm gonna draft Roman Yosi because
(14:50):
he's the defenseman and with the down year that Nashville had,
you know, right now on defense, I've stacked it up
with mccarr headman and.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Yosi Okay, yeah, look.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
At you and Goal and Jack Cughes and Alexander Ofvechkin.
That's my two forwards for now.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Not bad, Sam, Well, they're not bad, but yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
I watch them just like the jersey buying now watch
them all get hurt and do nothing absolutely well either way.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
I've been really excited about gritz Yuk and looking forward
to what he brings to the team this year. And
I saw Dubbs here on the old YouTube chat talking
about the Devil's five on five play. That's why players
like Dandenoff and Connor Brown are brought in because they are,
(15:44):
you know, good at five on five play. I think
I think all of dandofs goals last year came five
on five. I think I read that somewhere. Maybe I'm
just making that up, but I'm pretty sure I think
that's what it was. Was him, or maybe it was Connor,
I can't remember, but both of those guys are really
good five on five. Okay, and they're playing in the
(16:05):
bottom six. But yeah, we can't be just a power
play device again this year because your power play is
going to go through peaks and valleys. It's not a
guarantee every single time. You may only get one power
play in, you know, two minutes in a sixty minute game.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
You have to be able to play five on five.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
And that's why fits he went out and he brought
those players in.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah. Yeah, and you know, again, I don't want to
talk too too much about it, but it's kind of
annoying that Luke's still not signed. It seems like they're
far apart on money. Based on Pierre Lebron and his
(16:56):
post that he put on X a few days ago, go.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
Well, I mean yes, I mean I had that. I
had that written down over here. I mean yeah, I
mean there's still no deal. We hear that they're talking
a lot, which is good. Seems like they maybe got
a year thing.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Down, but now it's the money. However, what I saw,
I don't know if it was from Pierre Lebron.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
I thought it was from Elliott Friedman about the Devil's
being willing to go higher than Jack's eight million dollar
salary with him. I guess that was a a stick,
you know, like a little sticking point there that they
didn't want to go above Jack's eight million per year
(17:49):
with Luke. Yeah, apparently that's not a thing anymore that
they're willing to do that. So in all hope that
means that this deal will get you know, finalized relatively soon.
Then it would be a great, great thing to get done,
(18:11):
to get this distraction behind us, so the boys can
just focus on the season.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Luke not being there, you know that that sucks.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
We want we want him over there. Bill Agne says
Sam will end up hating the Hughes Klan. He could happen.
I do have a Jack Hughes jersey, but I didn't
buy it though.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
That's why it's okay, as long as you didn't buy it.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Yeah, that's why he went exception to the rule because
it was it's actually somebody that left it. One of
our Game Day Live podcasts sat there for three to
five days. I said, Frank, has anybody uh.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
Anybody claimed that one over there?
Speaker 3 (18:54):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Oh shoot, I think that's mine. Oh thank you, Okay.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
It's actually a rever retro jersey too.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Oh very nice.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Now watch all of our listeners listening in. That's my
jersey two years ago. I was looking. Yeah, right, I've
been looking for that.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
I swear, Well, that's a segue of gold there, done
by mister Sam wu because yeah, rip Jersey Jersey no more?
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Can you believe? Gone?
Speaker 3 (19:23):
As soon as Sam Wu buys one immediately, so they
the Devil's post that the Jersey Jersey is no more.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Let's recap what happened because.
Speaker 4 (19:34):
The a Jersey. What happened in Jersey?
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Well, no, Last Sunday, I was talking to shorts guy
about you know, because he sent me a link and
it was they were on clearance on Fanatics and then
when I clicked on the link, you know, it had
a seventy something dollars and now when I go there,
it's at ninety something dollars. And the shorts guy was saying,
(19:58):
and I was holding off buying it because I you know,
I want to pay less. Why would I pay more?
And he said, no, it fluctuates. It's the same link.
It's just you know, depending upon what day it is,
they can have a special and you know it's a
little bit lower. So I was like, all right, I'll
purchase it tomorrow. And then I talked to Tom Tom
the next day he reminded me. So the first thing
(20:21):
I did was I bought the Jersey Jersey and then
soon enough, an hour later, it's gone. The press release
it was out there and all that. So now waiting
for the Jersey jersey to be in my possession, and
now I got to call up short Sky, where do
(20:42):
you get this stitch because we're going to try to
stitch Pilot's name and number on it because I know
you the fans want to get rid of them and
see what happens. No guarantees, let's see what happens.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
So essentially, you bought it your and then they decided
to do away.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
With it pretty much unless it.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
So it was exactly the same thing that I said,
right you actually wasn't different, okay.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Because people want proof, It's like, what proof do you need?
Speaker 4 (21:24):
Well, it's gone.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Next year, next year, so the Jersey jersey is no more.
So if you're a fan of it, enjoy it. You
know next year you will have a relic. I'm sure
maybe they might bring it back for something or somewhere
along the way for a weekend or whatnot. I was
not a fan of it. I wish the front, I
like the jersey design. I just hate the jersey thing,
(21:50):
the logo. I just wish they had the Devil's logo there.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
But I am.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Excited to find out or maybe get an inkling of
what they're planning on doing. Are they gonna bring the
stadium series jersey back as the third option? Are gonna
Are they gonna bring back the reverse retro which was
very popular with the fans. Are they gonna do just
the regular heritage? You know, the the red and green?
(22:20):
Do you know what would be cool with the extra
with the extra striping this one that I have behind
me over here with all the extra striping on the bottom.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
They're gonna do that?
Speaker 4 (22:29):
Oh you can actually see that it's green and not
black there for a second.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
You know what they should do? They should do a
reverse stadium jersey reverse stadium. You never know?
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Hey, or or are we gonna get a new design?
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Mm?
Speaker 3 (22:48):
So if you have, if you have a preference, feel
free to hit it up in the comments on the
YouTube chat there.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
With the jersey jersey r I P.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Which would you like to see come uh and be
the the new alternate jersey Stadium series, reverse retro, old
school heritage.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Or completely new design? Let us know what you think.
What do you think? It's Samuel?
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I love I love the Christmas Tree jerseys, but I'm
old school. The jerseys I had that are Christmas Tree
jerseys came from that era, not not in the New
New era. Nothing wrong with that. Some some of the
(23:45):
Devil fans out there weren't born during that time. You know,
I still have like the old starter jerseys, starter jackets.
They did the you know, remake of of of those
green starter jackets not too long ago. Do you think
(24:06):
I should take Dylan Larkin? He's been sitting there for
a while.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
I have no clue to I feel like I have.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
A d D like you know they, you know, the
guys did. They did this on purpose. They knew that
we have a podcast at nine pm Eastern, so they figured,
you know, it draws my time. I'm gonna pick Dougie
Hamilton And this is my defense right now. Mccarr headman, Yo, C.
Speaker 4 (24:32):
Hamilton not bad, not bad, pretty good.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Yeah, but I'm lacking offense now with the we can
only have Hughesvechkin and Raymond and I have Sorokan and
Augustafson as my goalies.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
Well pick up some of those, uh those new rookies
or something.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Yeah, I'm gonna have to go deep, deep in the bench.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
So I think Dan and I is gonna play in
our top six. I'm not crazy about that. I'm not
sure if he's going to I'm not sure if he's
gonna play in the top six. No he I mean
he would have to play next to Jack and Jasper.
Speaker 4 (25:26):
It really, I mean it could.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Possibly work because Jasper Brad I think, plays either wing.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
But that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
You gotta figure out who's gonna play there because it
was Palot last year, and I don't think any Devil's fan,
you know, really wants to see Palot at the moment
up in the top six on the top line. While
Stephan Nason is out groin injury. If he didn't know
that he's gonna, you know, he's missing the entire preseason.
(26:00):
I'm not sure if he's skating, but I think he's
just recovering. I think he's still just recovering. So I
don't think he's really doing it.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
He's not gonna be ready for opening no way.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
Like I think he is recovering. I think that's what
it was.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
He was recovering until the end of the preseason, and
then I think he's going to start working out and stuff.
Speaker 4 (26:25):
On the ice. That's the timeline. We'll see what actually happens.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
But in the meantime, Dawson Mercer probably gonna jump up
with Nico and Timo. Yeah, so the danden Off on
the top line, I mean, yeah, that could happen.
Speaker 4 (26:48):
That could happen. So could Gritzuk.
Speaker 1 (26:52):
So could uh Paul Cotter kind of like surgeating him
Cheinoff old Russian veteran in the day.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Maybe maybe Plant does stay up there. I'm not sure,
but I think dan and Off would be on the
third line though. I think that's where that's where he
would be really good. I mean it might it might
(27:23):
be Gritzy up there, and then you have a what
dand and Off glass.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
And then.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Well Mercer once Nason comes back or hmmm, Paul Cotter
is gonna is he only gonna play in the fourth
You think he's gonna play on the fourth line. See,
Conner would be someone I'd be interested.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
I don't know, I don't know. I think he can
He's got the he's got some good hands.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
We know that if he was more, if Connor was
worse consistently, he'd definitely be third line. Definitely be a
third line, you know. But what's you know what, though, Scotty.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
No, I'm saying, can you imagine him with Jack and
Jasper Paul Cotter? I mean he would, really, he would
clear away for them.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
He's just gotta be yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I mean he hits everything he sees, and we know
he's got some golden myths.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
That would be interesting. I wonder have they done that
yet in the preseason. I haven't got a chance to really.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
The only game I really saw was the Islander game.
I've just been kind of watching some highlights here and there.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
I haven't been watching much because I don't take too
much stock in preseason and generally speaking, well, I think
one guy, I think he's gonna build off of last
year's uh build off from last year as Nicohesher. He
(29:14):
seems like he's a he's a little bit more beef
here this year, just a little bit. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
I mean they said he he hit the gym hard
in the offseason, and I mean he looks it out
there on the ice. I mean he was in that
that Islander again. There was why he played today. He's
got you got a goal today. I got a power
play goal today. Mm hmm p p G for the captain.
(29:45):
Uh Glenn Denning. Yep, more of your defensive centerman right there.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
Again.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Not gonna not gonna stockpile the points with him, but
dude can kill penalties and take face offs, which we
know is a very important factor because Niko Heisher cannot
take all of them, and it's an area of Jack
(30:18):
Hughes is strike. He's getting better though, Jackie's gotten better.
I will say that.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Yeah, towards the end, before he got hurt, he you know,
he was taking them.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
He won some big, like you know, offensive zone face
offs late in games. It was nice to see because
before it was just every time he went in there,
he was just getting housed. So hopefully that's something I'm
sure he's probably working on. It's one of the most
(30:49):
important things as a center. So hopefully he can improve
a little bit more. I don't know if he'll ever be,
you know, like Nico is, but whatever, so as he
can just continue to improve, I'll take that.
Speaker 4 (31:05):
With hopefully one hundred point season.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
Yeah, no problem, no problem, fair trade Yeah okay, nope, yeah, gotcha, perfect.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
But we'll we'll we'll see what happens there. But I
think Glenn Denning, you know, he might have might have
found his way onto the team.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Will fitz he need to clear out some cap room?
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Well he can put I mean he's if for Luke, yes,
Covid Savage can go on long term, and that should
give him the cap space that he needs to sign
Luke and h PTO or two. Those guys aren't going
(31:57):
to be breaking the bank, Luke. It sounds like he's
gonna be you know, nine million, ten million dollars. So
what do they have? They have like six point something.
What's COVID Savage like four point something. It's gonna be close.
(32:18):
I don't know how long Nason's gonna be. I don't
know if they could work I don't know if they
could work steps contract into their Hopefully he's not gonna
be out that long, so he should be able to
get it done.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
When it's just annoying. It's so annoying, Scotty, I'm already like,
if it goes on any further, I'm just gonna I'm
just gonna boycott the Hughes brothers.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Jason, we don't know what we got. That that's for
Fitzy to figure out. He's got to try and trade
a lot and that six million dollar contract or potentially
move Dougie in that nine million.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Dollar contract.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Until you know, I mean the the the cap is
going to go up, but not as far this year.
But as we've mentioned many many times, and as you're
going to see with Luke Qes, the salaries are going
up to So yeah, it's all going to even out
and still be tough to manage and navigate.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
As always, I'm taking a risk here, but I know
it's not a risk. My turn is next. I'm hoping
that he's not drafted.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
Who's that?
Speaker 1 (34:03):
I can't tell you because they're listening to this podcast
right now. Oh god, yeah, we're live live Chris Terrari. No, No,
he's not on.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
They bred Hull.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
You know a bad.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
You know, you know there were there was gimme Mary
Olmu and the uh in the eighth round with pick
number two hundred, blah blah blah.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
I'll take Mary Olemieux.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
You know back in the day Scottland chance was was
a good like pick up in the later rounds where
Adriana o'coin. Yeah, these d guys that just oh you
know who I'm gonna pick. I need a center, I
(34:53):
really want to. I'm gonna take a risk. On him
because Dylan Strom is on the board. I'm gonna pick
Logan Cooley. Oh, last year.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
We all know about Sam and Logan Cooley.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Twenty five goals forty assists last year. Not bad, not bad,
projected to the thirty goals and forty three assists this
year for the Utah Masse.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Fitz said no long term or trades needed. I don't
I don't know where the hell is gonna get that money?
Speaker 1 (35:32):
Then simple lot to.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
If Luke's gonna cost ten million and we only have six.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
Million currently, I mean, something just doesn't add up there.
Someone's gotta check on Fitzy if that's what he says, is.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Your math correct? FITZI, did you do your calculations? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (35:59):
What were you doing your calculations in Canadian money? Again, FITZI,
is that what's going on?
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Is that what happened? Exchange rate was wrong?
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Change rate?
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (36:16):
I think uh, he's working in WU Bucks.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Maybe maybe maybe they have something like you know under
the table, you know, just like what happened. Wasn't there
an incident in the NBA uh one of the Clippers
that the the owner of the Clippers was accused of
Steve Balmer of being like, oh, but you you're gonna
have an equity stake in this company. But that's a
(36:43):
side business, off the side where you're gonna make sixty
million dollars, but it's off the books. With the NBA,
it was some conspiracy out there that they're looking into. Uh.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
Yeah, Sam will always knows a good conspiracy when when
he sees.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Well, that's my fantasy hockey name, conspiracy devil. Couldn't think of.
Speaker 4 (37:08):
Anything else conspiracy.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
I don't realize that I sent Scottie, Shorts Guy and
Beer Barn conspiracy theories all the time in the group
text all worthy for us, yes to talk on the podcast.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Oh, totally worthy.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
I I totally read them over and over again and
debate if they're real or not.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
Do you do you actually delete it or do you
actually read some of the crap?
Speaker 3 (37:36):
I said, I don't delete it, but I just look
at the things that entertain your brain, you know, And
I'm like, Okay, Sam wu is Uh he's a character.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
Let's just say he's a character.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Oh. The latest one I said to was pretty juicy,
really juicy. Something I've been saying for a long time now.
But I'm not gonna say it for the podcast getting canceled.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
For the sake of the podcast select What's Up? I
hate that we lost both games, even though it's preseason.
Speaker 4 (38:15):
Yeah, it's preseason. It's okay.
Speaker 3 (38:18):
The Giants one, who cares? The Devil's lost, Sam's Penn
State lost. The Mets lost. The Jets might lose tomorrow.
If you're a Jets fan. That was the hardest. That
was the hardest game to pick. I'm like, who's worse
the Owen three Jets or the Owen three Dolphins.
Speaker 4 (38:37):
I'm like, there's a toss up right over here, at
least the Giants one.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
How did that happen? And you want to know why?
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Because Sam Wu was sitting in his Jonas brother's seats. Again,
if I went to that game, I would have been
sitting on the top of the stadium. Yeah, courtesy of
Sam Wu. Oh, I got you good tickets.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
Here you go.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
I'll be down over here in the heated section with
all the uh what was it?
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Free prime rib and then crab legs.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
You're eating today? Yeah? Yeah, I was eating all Yeah. Sam,
I took pictures of it too.
Speaker 4 (39:17):
It was gonna get Did you get your hot cocoa?
Did you have hot coco.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
There as well. No, I had.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
I had ice tea instead.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
It was really hot today, so I had a lot
of bottle and water, you know, some popsy mountain dew, you.
Speaker 4 (39:33):
Know, all the good stuff.
Speaker 1 (39:36):
I didn't hit the ice cream. There was ice cream.
There was a candy stand there too. Okay, yeah I didn't.
I was able to get to the there. But oh,
do you think I should draft uh Slafkowski? Do you
think that's a risk?
Speaker 4 (39:58):
M m hmm. Yeah, I mean if he's available.
Speaker 1 (40:04):
Sam Bennett's still on the board, but I need.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
Sam Bennett still on the board.
Speaker 1 (40:10):
Yeah. Twenty four goals, twenty six assists, ninety p ams.
You know what, I think I'll go with the first
overall pick of a couple of years ago. Why not?
Speaker 4 (40:26):
It could be his breakout season, Sam will.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
It could be even though I called him a bust
back then, he's not gonna have mount it nothing.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Oh Man, Corbyn says, Casey is looking really good.
Speaker 1 (40:48):
He is, he is.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
He's got some nice offensive moves.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
I want to see him work that defensive side of
the game as well.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
A little bit more.
Speaker 3 (41:03):
Is Buddy Ethan Edwards getting shot for the time being
with Luke Unsigned.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
It's amazing how how many Michigan kids we have.
Speaker 1 (41:17):
Agreed that pipeline is ours. Yeah, yeah, it really, it
really is. I mean, you know, I mean there was
a lot of kids.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
I mean, well, yeah, imagine imagine that they had we
had owen power as well, like almost like a full
uh defensive crew of just Michigan kids.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
Even the great John Merrill was from Michigan. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (41:45):
I don't know, but yeah, I mean we're gonna We're
gonna see what happens with Casey. Obviously we know that
with COVID Savitch out, someone is is going to get
an opportunity. Are they gonna split it up? How are
they gonna work that? I'm not sure they gonna take
(42:07):
uh chelawski.
Speaker 4 (42:08):
Or whatever, you know, Like I'm not, I'm not for
the time being. I don't think so.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
I think because COVID sevag is gonna be out for
amount of time, I.
Speaker 4 (42:18):
You know what, I don't know what it means.
Speaker 3 (42:23):
For like waivers and that sort of thing, like getting
sent back and forth to the AHL. I'm sure they
still have options, but whatever one does end up getting
optioned back and you never know as well, there's injuries
every season, let's hope not. But another defenseman could you know,
(42:46):
theoretically get injured as well. What happens if Luke Hughes
never signed Sam wu What if he's a holdout for
the entire season.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Well, then I'm done with the Hughes family. Done done.
You could you could ship Jack and and and Luke
to Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (43:13):
I was thinking more about the defensive opportunities. But all right,
you're you wanna want to go go this route instead?
Speaker 1 (43:19):
Okay, I'm telling you. See the thing is Jack Hughes.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
You know, you know this was a hypothetical, right, just yeah,
talk about.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
See this is where it gets very dicey. Here where
it gets dicey is the organization when Jack was drafted,
put all their chips in, all their anti up saying
he's the face of the franchise, generational player, right, and
(43:48):
build around Jack and Nico Nigo's only as a couple
of years left on his contract, but build around Jack
Hughes and then to make everybody happy. Well, actually it
was a combination of drafting his brother. And you saw
how happy Jack was. He was basically like a a rabbit,
(44:12):
just jumping up and down, going crazy. When his brother
was drafted. Quinn is sitting there like, oh, this is interesting,
and you know, you know, Ellen Hughes still the MVP
of the team. But now we're talking about money. Now,
(44:38):
is Fitsy being cheap and trying to you know, bang that.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
This is all in my hypothetical just to talk about
defensive opportunities?
Speaker 4 (44:48):
Correct, but I'm young. Oh okay, all right, okay, all right,
all right.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
But the thing here is, if it wasn't a Hughes brother,
you can obviously leverage all the great talent like Casey
Namach Edwards and just say Cyanara don't need you. But
you can't in this situation, which makes it tricky because
(45:22):
in a normal situation you just it's remember Scott Niedermeyer
and lou how many contract disputes Like Niedermeyer. I remember
Niedermeyer was kind of quote in saying, it's not exactly
what I shouldn't have to fight every time I'm trying
to get a new contract. You know, I shouldn't have
to like, you know, like be treated like this. It
(45:46):
is a business. But it's just you know, with the
huge brothers, they always get the preferential treatment. Fine, they're
great players, they've earned that right. But at the same time,
it's like, in this situation, it gets tricky because you
can't just maybe Fitzi's maybe he's just like, what are
(46:10):
you gonna do about it?
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Well, you know, I think being that this is a
complete hypothetical that I was talking about for defensive opportunities
on the team, That's where.
Speaker 4 (46:24):
I was hoping to go with this. I'm sure to
work out. I'm sure to work out. Don't worry, don't
worry about it.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
Yeah, but let's put it this way. Well, luke Q's replaceable.
Speaker 3 (46:40):
Listen, at some point or another, everybody's replaceable.
Speaker 4 (46:47):
That's true, no one, No one wins against father time.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
You have your prime for so long and then yeah,
maybe you can hold on, but you very rarely see
guys get better as they get older.
Speaker 4 (47:05):
Some do, but in the long run, everyone is replaceable.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
But with Luke unsigned, do you have anyone else who
you think might get potential defensive opportunities.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
This was the whole point of me saying.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
That other than Ethan Edwards on the team, no, nobody.
Speaker 1 (47:45):
Sorry, I'm I was in the middle. Drafted. I just
drafted the Bauhorvat. Okay, thanks, thanks, Eric for planning this
live draft at nine pm Eastern today.
Speaker 3 (48:02):
Jay snow he's missing all of camp two years now. Yeah,
neilan nerden Son for a while. I mean, I hope
he doesn't hold out again. I was just saying that,
just goofing around.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
I feel like there's gonna be an announcement soon.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
I don't know if that announcement will be that Luke
Ques has signed a long term deal, but I feel
like there's gonna be.
Speaker 4 (48:30):
An announcement soon. It might be.
Speaker 3 (48:36):
You know, they're bringing back hot Dog Night, although they
are bringing back the beer hockey stick.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
Did anyone see that?
Speaker 1 (48:43):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I mean that's pretty rare, and it comes with that
extra long straw just in case you can't do a
doss boot like beer Fest.
Speaker 4 (48:57):
Yeah, that's a lot.
Speaker 3 (49:01):
How much beer is in that? Can they say that's
yeah one of those? How big is that hockey stick?
I mean, by the picture, it looks pretty big. That's
got to hold a couple ounces of beer there, won't
you say?
Speaker 1 (49:20):
How many ounces do you think that is?
Speaker 4 (49:23):
I mean, I don't know, is it forty? Is it
like twenty four?
Speaker 1 (49:32):
Do you know how much?
Speaker 4 (49:35):
No? And I'm sure it's gonna be pricey.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
Yeah, that's how they get you, get you all excited,
and once you get there and then you see the bill, well.
Speaker 3 (49:47):
I mean I'll buy one just to have one. I'm
sure it's gonna be like forty bucks or something like that.
But if you're getting, you know, two beers worth, I mean,
that's pretty much what forty dollars costs you at any
you know, sporting event.
Speaker 1 (50:05):
So why not.
Speaker 3 (50:09):
Some places that forty bucks won't even get you two beers?
Speaker 4 (50:17):
This is what it is.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
Yeah, I know the price. I know the prices are
like at Dodger Stadium out here in LA. I know
they're like over there a Yankee Stadium and City Field
as well. So I can only imagine where they're at
it at MetLife because I know so far is is.
Speaker 4 (50:37):
I mean, it's well over twenty dollars.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
For a beer at so Fi. Well today I'm trying
to think. I can't remember if it was twenty three
or twenty four today.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
I didn't pay a dime today.
Speaker 4 (50:50):
Well, see, that's the last time I was there.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
I was there with a friend who has certain you know, hookups,
So I was in the sam Wu seats where everything
was free. You got the buffet there, you get the sandwiches,
you get the beers, you get waters, whatever you want.
Speaker 4 (51:10):
But if I was in the regular seeds.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
Probably wouldn't have had as many as I did of
the free ones.
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Okay, so where I was today, I don't think it's
a bad You know where it comes with the food.
AI is saying the Coaches Club season tickets that met
life for Giants seventy three hundred seat per season, but
you also have to carry a twenty thousand dollars PSL
(51:43):
for each seat, so forty thousand dollars. Say it's true,
But it was a lot of food.
Speaker 4 (51:51):
I already know it was a lot just for free food.
I'll buy I'm gonna buy it like a grill and
then like.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
Just going the parking lot and then just grill it
up beforehand instead of having to pay.
Speaker 4 (52:06):
How much was it per PSL.
Speaker 1 (52:10):
Pie?
Speaker 4 (52:13):
That's freaking crazy, man.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
It's one of the greatest scams and stadium building history.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
I mean, it is what it is. I mean it
used to be.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
The thing is though it used to be special to
get Giants tickets back in the day because they.
Speaker 4 (52:27):
Were sold out.
Speaker 3 (52:28):
It was like are sold out for thirty years. People
would pass them down, you know, generations and stuff like that,
as soon as they got the news to add all
just stops with that.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Yeah. Once, once they had PSLs, that number dropped.
Speaker 4 (52:42):
Yeah, that number just completely crashed. But it used to
be something.
Speaker 3 (52:46):
It used to be something really special to get, like
Giants tickets and stuff because they were just always sold out.
Speaker 1 (52:52):
Yeah, and then you would see commercials, Oh tickets available
Medlef Stadium Giants. I'm like back in there. You never
never would ever see those type of commercials.
Speaker 4 (53:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
Well, either way, it's been fun chatting about all the
latest news that's been going on here. Bye Bye Jersey
Jersey gritz YUK playing with Jack and Jasper doing some
really good things. Connor Brown, Dawson Mercer wearing the A
for their respective split squad. So that's that should show
(53:33):
you a lot about Connor Brown already, Yeah, coming in
and with the presence he has and that respect that
he brings. Uh, Nason drawing issue gonna be out for
a little while. Who's gonna pop up into that second
line with Nico and Timo? Probably old DM Dawson Mercer.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
Hey, guys, maybe you can buy me a beer?
Speaker 3 (53:58):
Now I'm on the second line, and who the hell
knows what's going on with Luke. Like I said, I
feel there's an announcement coming. Don't know if it's a
Luke you was signing, but they're gonna announce something. I
hear Sam Wu Night at the Rock is coming very soon.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
I hear about that too.
Speaker 3 (54:21):
Yeah, everyone's gonna get those the goal light, the helmet,
the hockey helmet with the goal light on top, and
uh free bag of catfish, Sam Wu's favorite that he
would eat at the old TAJ there every day.
Speaker 1 (54:39):
I love to eat catfish, you know what. I never
in my.
Speaker 3 (54:45):
Life, Never in my life did I ever expect that
and those that word to come out of your mouth
when I said, what did you get pizza, Nacho's burger, steak, salad,
shrimp something like that? Oh, I got the catfish to
(55:06):
the doctor evil right gift right now?
Speaker 4 (55:10):
All right, just pop that into your head.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
Yeah, it's it's very good. If people remember the old TODJ,
we had people buying the catfish and devils were winning.
Whatever it takes, folks.
Speaker 3 (55:28):
Like I said, I think they were just telling you
that people because no one else was buying it. Yeah, yeah,
the catfish hot a cellar of the day.
Speaker 4 (55:38):
I can't keep it starved. Everyone just keeps buying it.
I remember comes in right back out.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
I remember dipping the catfish in Frank's hot sauce and
that was freaking yummy. Something about it.
Speaker 4 (55:53):
Is this way? Is this Frank the tanks sauce or
just regular Franks?
Speaker 1 (55:58):
Yeah? Regular Franks?
Speaker 4 (56:00):
Oh okay, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
I thought maybe you had a special Frank the Tank
hot sauce and I wanted to hear about that.
Speaker 4 (56:05):
But that's okay.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Maybe we can make one up. But I think maybe
we should. I think it's final thoughts right now. I
think we're going off the rails, all right.
Speaker 4 (56:15):
Uh my final thought for the day. Damn, I didn't
think of one. Grits Yuke. That's all. Just Grits Yuke.
Speaker 1 (56:40):
Just just one, just one name, just.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
One word, Grits Duke. You gotta say in like a
whisper voice like that, Grits Juke.
Speaker 1 (56:49):
Grits Juke. We need to have a little echo there.
Speaker 6 (56:55):
Yeah, screets you co co co like uh Friday the thirteenth.
Speaker 1 (57:07):
Yeah, uh oh wow. Now I'm drafting while I'm doing
my uh final thoughts. Uh, Copaitar is still on the board.
We're Tyler to Foley, but he's on the San Jose Sharks.
I'm gonna go with Copaitar. He's a great player.
Speaker 4 (57:27):
Didn't he retire?
Speaker 1 (57:28):
Did he? I just picked him? Did he retire? You really?
I might I might have to flip him.
Speaker 3 (57:50):
Ah oh man, all right, let's wrap it up here,
Sam will oh yeah.
Speaker 1 (57:54):
So my final thought, uh, don't do a live Fantasy
high draft while you're doing a podcast. A couple of things.
I'm gonna plug. Uh, there's gonna be a new show
on the let's go to those podcast network. It's a
little secret. They'll debut October first. Okay, yeah, I'll debut
(58:21):
October first, Just letting you.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
Know that's Wednesday. Yes, let's set your alarms, kid.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
Exactly. Anyway, I want to thank all those tuning in
dropping the podcast at midnight. The season is about to begin.
I don't have to worry about the meta. Yankees are
playing the Red Sox in the first round. I saw
(58:55):
that Judge Giants. Uh, let's see where that go. But
hockey's around the corner anyway. Until next time, let's go doubles.
