when something's happening at the old Microsoft Theater or Crypto.
So yeah, got to experience a little bit of the
draft yesterday, which was a lot of fun. It was cool,
like just being there and that was the first time
I've ever been to any draft whatsoever. But they did

it up pretty good. I gotta say.

Whole like La Kings when they have like their outdoor
fest and stuff like that. Uh, they had all like
the mini rinks set up for the kids to play
street hockey. You know, they had their big hockey wood sign.
I texted you guys, you know it was it was nice.

They had a red carpet there.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Yeah, they had red carpet there on Friday for all
the first round and everything like that. Lots of solebs
coming by to do the picks and everything. So overall
it was a it was a good event, and uh yeah,
it was cool to just go there and kind of
check out, check out the big board and feel bad
for what's his name, Bill Daily? Who has to pronounce

every one of those names, like right off the bat.

that's actually this person, you know. So, But it was
a cool It was a cool event, and it was
a lot of fun, like getting down there and did
me a little little day drinking maybe maybe a little
too much on the Saturday afternoon for the early start

draft nine am time. Yeah, so by four it's like,
whoa scout, he's a little tipsy now. So yeah, but overall,
really cool event down there, and glad that the Devils
are good. We were just talking before the show starts.

kind of read about it because I knew we didn't

I mean, I was standing on the ESPN set yesterday,
but they weren't. They weren't there, or maybe they were.
I don't think I saw. I mean, the NHL network
was there yesterday broadcasting, but at least at least when
I got there about it there because I didn't get
there at the very very very beginning.

Maybe watched the replay like it was just terrible. It's
like this, it's this guy's moment, and like there was
like failures everywhere. Like you hear an echo blah blah blah,
the fee drops. That's what happens when you decentralize, like
they I'm shocked at a company like ESPN couldn't get
it right.

Yeah, but ESPN has tended to not really care much
about their hockey coverage. Their hockey coverage is seeming to
be low budget, kind of low budget. Yeah, little budget
is the best way to put it.

Like TNT is a lot.

They also just well. They also just moved like the
majority of their stuff out of LA Live, Like they're
not doing Sports Center from l A anymore. Like I
think the only thing that's going to be from LA
now is like NBA Live or something like that. So
they closed like major of their studio space in l

three weeks ago. Maybe that has something to do with it,
or maybe it's just.

I'm just saying that if they're I know, there's a
bigger judge for the NFL Draft. But it's the same premise.

to you off air the way they were doing it.
The way they were doing it was No, it's actually
the way the NFL does it is different, even though
it's still decentralized, like the interviews that they were doing.
They were doing it interview. So basically the draft d

gets picked and then he goes into a room and
then on the in the room there's a video of
the GM's like, for instance, the Islanders. Right, Schaeffer's talking
to the to the Islanders GM and they're talking back
and forth. You hear the audience in the background, so
you hear an echo coming from Long Island from that

you know, from that location, and then you hear the
echo going out to the audience. So there's like echos
slap back sound all over the place, and the board
off like should be muting on one side so one
side could talk and then when the other side talks,
then put it up.

It's just it's just to me, it seems like they've
done something similar with the NFL. They should at least
have experience with it, Like I understand what they were
not doing wrong the way you explained it. But it's
not like they haven't. It's not like the first time
they're doing this. So you would think that they would
have someone competent.

Probably stuck an intern there doing that or something like that.

Because budget for the NHL draft and then but the
only good thing is that we get tech talk with
Sam Wu afterwards, you know, So I mean, hey, well,
it's a win win situation.

NFL draft where they had three million people there, well
last April or whatever, that was the NHL Draft three million.

the NHL will be in the next two Olympics with

is a raise minimum salary from seven hundred and seventy
five K to one million in what is that twenty

didn't say if there would be like mild year increases
for the minimum salary, just that's where it would end
up by the time the next CBA comes around. Okay,
he hasn't projected an upper limit of the salary cap

an odd relative dip in payment for a league minimum.

so that's good news. So we don't have to worry

day about like Hall of Fame when Mogilny, you know, uh,

finally is going into the to the hall. We were
talking about Eliosh and you know, yeah, imagine if we
didn't have that strike, that lockout and he didn't go
to wherever it was Czech Republic or Russia, wherever the
hell he went to play and get hepatitis seat, his
numbers would have would have been good for first or

second ballot like boom in there. But when you look
at that, he lost the lockout year, he lost the
hepatitis year, and then you got like a comeback year
where you're not going at you know, full throttle there.
It's almost like three years he ended up losing because
of that damn lockout. And if he was if there

was no lockout and they're still just you know, playing here,
I mean at at another you know, probably maybe like
I mean at that time, you know, you're definitely adding
over one hundred points there, you know, to his to
his resume.

I mean, he was averaging around pulls at that point.
So that's another ninety another ninety goals. I don't know
how many assists. I'd have to look at the numbers
like what he was averaging at that point in his career,
but you do that and all of a sudden you
got a first or second ballot Hall of Famer right there.

Yeah, it's those those last years are really detrimental to
him and his numbers. But even still, like he was,
he's one of our greatest devils and deserves to be
in the Hall of Fame, and he eventually will. But
I mean, hell, look look how long it took mcgilney
to get there. Gilly should have been there a long
time ago. And that was kind of like the joke.

You know, mcgillney isn't there again. Mcgilney has passed over again.
You know, this time he got the phone call and
I guess it was when they called him. It was
like three a m. Or two or three am when
they called him because they they played the recorded phone calls,
which was pretty cool. But yeah, at some point Ellie
ash has to get there, and I feel like it'll happen.
It's just yeah, there's those lost seasons like that was

such a weird time too for for us as fans,
like to to lose hockey like we did, Like it
was it sucked in ninety five, suck to lose it
again later on, you know, a full season, another half season.
It just it, you know, and then not just eli Ash,
but he tak of players like bro Door and the
different you know, the amount of wins he could have had,
you know, probably.

He had there, Yeah, he could have. He could have
broke seven hundred. Eddie was just putting down on the
YouTube chat if those if those years weren't gone, Yeah,
Marty probably yeah, yeah.

Well into seven hundreds, you know. It's it really sucks. Yeah,
his shutouts, his shutouts would have been up there too.
It's you know a lot of stuff. And then outside
of Devils, think of what Yager would have done if
he wouldn't have lost those seasons too, like you know,
the the whole idea, the work stoppages and what was

lost not just for l Ash but for a lot
of players. Just sucks.

M Well, we do have a lot of other news
going on though as well.

Uh, you know, free about to pop here in a
couple of days on Tuesday, you're seeing people, you know,
some deals starting to be made over here, some extensions,
some resignings. Before the free agent frenzy you know, finally
kicks into gear and it'll be interesting to see what

these devils do. I mean, I think it's pretty obvious.
We've talked about it before, you know, Jake Allen love you,
but don't don't see them bringing him back. And good
for Jake because he's going to be able to command
a lot more money on the free on the free
agent market, uh than he was prior. You know, I

could see Edmonton snatching him up as well, you know,
so yeah, good for Jake Allen. Dumalen, you know, I
don't feel like he'll be back either. Again, we just
have such a crowded defensive room over there. Unless they
figure out some way to move mister Hamilton, then maybe, yes,

you would bring Dumalen back. But I think that'll be
the two big things for the Devils is seeing if
they can work a trade. I mean, Luke is a
no brainer obviously, but that doesn't leave them with a
lot of of you know, wiggle room afterwards. But if somehow,
some way they can get you know, Dougie and Palot traded,

you know, that would obviously free up a lot more
cap space for the Devils to go out there and
make another big splash.

Yeah, that's you're looking at fifteen open fifteen million open
cap space. If they can move those two contracts, but I'm.

Well, I'm sure they're probably.

That's what I was That's what I was just going
to say. I'm not sure if they're going to get
rid of all of that, But even get rid of
getting rid of half of that and opening up you know,
seven and a half million, let's say they retain you know,
just half of it. That's still you know, a decent
amount of of of a space that you got there,
and you can get Namas signed, not Nemachs. I'm looking

at my screen and thinking about nothing. You know, you
get looked tied up and locked up, and then you
if you figure out, you know, looking at a Markstrom extension,
which is what I'm hoping for. Uh, and then you
got Nico dawes As and RFA next year, you know,
depending on what happens with Markstrom this year and what
they decide to do. So there's there's just there are

decisions that have to be made. But I mean, I
wouldn't mind seeing Jake Allen come back, but if he
can get more money on the open market, I'm not
going to fault him for that either, because I like
what he's done. I feel like it was a good
duo between the two of them, Markstrom and Jake Allen. Uh.
This could also just be Nico DOS's time to step

up and and to be that guy, you know, to
be that guy and maybe have Poulters the third. So
and then we've got what's his name of Beu that'll
be coming into uh yeah you.

to nickname Porkrol because his first name is Trenton Bennett.

a beast and he's only nineteen years, old which means
he's probably still gonna grow a little bit as. Well

he's a young draft Kick canadian. Kid he's gonna need
time to. Develop he's in THE ohl. Now but, MAN
