Speaker 1 (00:18):
Happy Devils Sunday. This is the Let's Go Devils Podcast,
Season nine, Episode two, coming you live live from the
Primetime Radio studios inside the Bunker, undisclosed location, Beautiful New
Jersey to the highest point of the Garden State Cross
Continent to the Michael James Boxer Studios in Beverly Hills, California.
(00:46):
I'm your host, Sam lou here with Scotti, a Sir,
Sexe Linchman, Metal and Short Sky preseason is underway of
the twenty six NHL season. In good morning, good afternoon,
good evening, wherever you are, a little early, a little early,
(01:09):
a little bit. We were so anxious to get on
air normal night.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, but Giants are on Sunday night football edition of
that Let's Go Devil's podcast at all.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
No, no, no, all, not that beer. You know, beer
Baron's not here. Not that he isn't putting his kids
to better or anything, you.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Know, sure, yeah, yeah, that's happening.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
But he wants to watch the Giants.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
We all know the truth.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yeah, yeah, we all know. Bicky's probably doing something and
he's holding the two kids and two arms, you know,
while she's like, you know, building a fortress in the backyard.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
I think she's holding the kids as well. Actually, yeah, yeah,
that's that seems more accurate. Well around giving everybody I see.
I see we've got some people chiming in there on
the old YouTube, so welcome, welcome everybody.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
How you doing.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, we got a game today other than New York
Football Giants, New Jersey Devils, well, a preseason action going
on at the Rock taking on the Rangers. They did
lose five to three. Yeah, but it's preseason cares. But
(02:27):
saw some good, good things from a couple of you
know guys that are most likely going to be on
that ice a whole lot this season in uh, Paul
Cotter and gritz Yuk.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Bigger kid than I thought.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Yeah, and when when they showed him, well, the first
time I saw him on camera. So I was doing
some stuff this afternoon since the Giants. I don't know
if you guys knew the Giants were playing at eight
twenty tonight, So I was taking some time to do
a couple of things in the afternoon as the Devils
were on, because apparently the Giants are on at eight twenty.
And when they first showed him, they showed him and
(03:04):
like the side of his arm, and I'm looking at
his number, I'm like thirty one. I don't know if
anyone said that, since Chris Taveri he's wearing number thirty one,
and then he continued to turn around like, oh eighty one,
Oh eighty one, Yeah, makes a lot more sense. However,
it is preseason, so you do see some odd numbers
out there the preseason games. You see numbers you're not
(03:26):
used to seeing, you know, in general, and numbers you're
not used to seeing on players, you know, at playing
at a position or whatever. So it was it was
quite the thing to see that. But yeah, that was
my initial reaction on him, and I was like, ah, yes,
I should think before I make make a decision on that.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Well, he factored in on double's goal number two and
number three for this game, and both of them were
very pretty plays. The first one some transact transaction transition
game happening from the Devil's defensive zone. Him and Paul Cotter,
you know, going up the ice, a little give and
(04:08):
go and Paul Cotter man those mits of gold came
out once again as he takes this pass like in
traffic from gritz Juk on the backhand to the forehand
and you think he's gonna roof it, but then he
kind of goes low, far side away, just straight up
(04:31):
nasty looking goal, and that one that.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Was pretty damn now, it was pretty damn nice.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
But then you get the Devils on a power play,
I think in the I think it was in the
third period, and again Gritzyuk is they kind of got
the little, uh, the little triangle going okay, and gritsyuk
is on the one of the sides in the face
off circle and he takes, you know, another give and
(04:58):
go there pass to the point past back and he
rifles one glove side with authority.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
And again we know it's preseason, preseason, but still.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
For you know, getting the news recently about Stephen Nason,
you know, being injured, it's nice to see right off
the bat one of these young guys coming in and
again it's preseason, but he's factored in on two of
those goals and they were both pretty in the process.
(05:36):
So I don't know about you guys, but that was
my big main takeaway from the day.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
Yeah, I have quite a different takeaway from the day,
and I didn't even notice at first. I had to
be reminded of it from my brook They are now
showing shots on goal. The last network in the land
to not show shots on goal actively during the game
(06:04):
has finally changed their ways and they were showing shots on.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Goal throughout the entire game.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
It was I didn't even notice it. I was just
looking at it, going, oh, cool, okay, we have three shots.
And then it wasn't until Brooks sent a picture and
I was like, oh, they're showing shots on goal. It
just it didn't click for some reason. So that was
oh you mean in the score graphic on the score graphic.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, yes, it's uh.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I've been I've been wanting that for a long time
and here we are, and finally it's there, and I
just I just accepted that it was there. I didn't
even say, oh my gosh, I just accepted it was there.
And I was very very happy to see that, because
it's the stat that I love seeing.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
I know. I mean, I bought these two clickers to
compensate Oh you were gonna yeah, But just like anything
else I buy, it becomes obsolete, just like I don't
know my Marino jersey, the Stefan Recha jersey back in
ninety six. Do you which one do you want? McLean
starter Jersey or rechay started your Oh well, two days
(07:02):
later it gets traded, traded gone, that.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Was your fault. I gotta Rechae Jersey. I didn't know
that was Sam Oo's fault.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Damn of course it's Sam Oo's fault.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Thanks Sam.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I would Why wouldn't it be if I really wanted
to be a jerk, I'll get a. I'll get a.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Nico Hesher Jersey oohoo, don't do that.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Oh you can, you can probably get He looks ripped
coming back.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
To camp and everything. That's that's been the that's been
the word around town.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Wow, he's been beefing up.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
He went to uh, you know, Superhero school apparently over
the summer. And remember when remember when Chris Pratt like
you know, lost on that weight and started like, you know,
just hitting the gym NonStop.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I don't think Nico Hesher looked like Chris Pratt but before.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
That, but either way, you know, there there seems to
be a transition that happened, and Nico is jacked.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
So we hear.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Wow, uh Sam, Sam, you don't call him the best
color man in the common, in the uh, in the
world for nothing over there, folks.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Wow, wow, Hey, you know what, we all need a
little beef in our lives. By the way, I'm still
trying to convince American whiskey to serve Sam salads.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Well, I can see you're the little researched for the day, sir,
aren't you.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
He is he is? Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
By the way, Sam, Sam is now going to start
taking super chats to not buy a Nico Heastrew Jersey.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Wow, we got a million dollars here.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Yeah, that's a million closer to our to our jet.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Oh inflation, it's now seventy million to buy one of
those things.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Well anyway, all right, well either way, it's nice to
see Grits, you, you know, come in there and ye
make it UK act, you know, just right off the bat.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Give the kids some confidence, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Hopefully it just flows with him.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
And he just is a natural out there on the ice.
That's that's what we're all hoping for right now.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, we'll see, we see what happens obviously when the
regular season comes around. But to get that sort of
performance right off the bat, it's a good it's good
reassurance for Devils fans just say, hey, you know some
of that hype from the for this kid is for real.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
Yeah, and he's you know, he's coming in twenty four,
and he's coming in after playing you know, I guess
what you can call a step down, but not too
far a step down in the KHL. So it's not
like he's it's it's not like he's coming in playing
college kids or you know, juniors right now. He's coming
in as an established professional hockey player. So aside from
(10:02):
you know, the on ie stuff, he also has the
off ie stuff figured out as well as far as
being a professionals concern. Now, yeah, he's transitioning to a
new country and he's gonna have to figure that out.
But you know that's that's gonna be less of a
hassle for us with him is the fact that you know,
he's already a seasoned veteran. If you want to think
about it at twenty four, you know we're over by
(10:24):
twenty four, you know, right, this guy's a veteran to
this point.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
This reminds me of This reminds me almost like Jordan
Love and actually Aaron Rodgers before where they and Patrick
Mahomes where they sat on the bench for like two
or three years and watched this other quarterback.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Play and then when they came in, boom, they were ready.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
They were ready to roll. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, And I just want to point out Tom Dermody,
great stat. I didn't even catch that because I didn't
I didn't really see all of the game.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
I was just kind of watching the highlights.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Forty five hits today, ten of them by Paul Cotter.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
He's he could be a hit mesh, And that was
the big he is he is? Yeah, but I that
was that was the big thing you brought up when
he got when he was brought to us, is his hits.
And then we found out he had hands. So it's
a combination. But yeah, he's you know, having about you
know one, what is that a quarter of the hits today?
(11:19):
You know in a preseason game? No less, I know
it's against the Rangers, but you know, preseason games aren't
really going to be known for a lot of hitting.
You know, you're just you're out there trying to make
through preseason, trying to make a uh, make us, make
us flash the coaching staff, show them why you're supposed
to be there but also not get hurt too. So
for him to be playing physical already, that's uh, you know,
(11:40):
that's that's kind of a big deal.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
That's just the way Paulie does it. You know, that's
why Paulie does it. He's as Frank a Sinatra. I
got a chuckle out of Sam right there. Okay, here
you go.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Sam's alive.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
What's up Sam?
Speaker 1 (12:05):
What about Frank the Tank?
Speaker 3 (12:07):
All right, he's as Frank as the tank as well.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, make sure American Whiskey official will be there. Come
on down.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
Yeah here, we will be there right across the street.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Anytime you go into the Devil's game, just do it.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
You can do a little bar hopping right down over there,
but make sure you stop into American whiskey and then you
say how to us. It's okay if you want to,
you know, pop around at the different spots.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
We get it. But just don't forget to come say hi.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
You know, you can do your hopping before six o'clock.
Just make sure you're an American whiskey based six. Yeah,
all kinds of hopping, you know, between four and six,
but be an American whiskey by six.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
And are for me a pizza.
Speaker 4 (12:57):
See this is why Sam's here. Sam's here for the
food for no other reason, for no other reason.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
And you know, wani U buy me a piez so
I had it. Okay, there you go. Now we had
a nice night.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Now see with Sam. See that's the thing with Sam.
W and you off from food and you get him something,
he doesn't go away. He just he's just he's just
always there.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Opportunities.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
I think I think Sam would bring that, certainly are
Sam should bring that goal helmet and anytime someone buys
you food at the bar, like the goal helmet's got
to go on like you.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
Know, Oh that's a great idea.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Yeah, missus woo helping you out if you're listening right now,
so we can keep an eye on Sam.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
He I realize it, but he just hanged himself.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
We need to we need to have catfish on the menu.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Oh you and that catfish?
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Like what we a taj catfish.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
You were the only one that you were the only
one that ate the cat.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
A lot catfish.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Now that's just what they told you.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
People like the catfish. Oh yeah, people, A lot of people.
One of our best sellers. Yeah, of course.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
I love catfish.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah, I hate fish.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Nope.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Wow, really I thought you like No way, no way.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I'm not a big guy.
Speaker 3 (14:34):
I like sushi, though, I eat a lot of sushi.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Nope, not even that, not even sushi.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Sushi.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Once you get used to all the textures in your mouth,
and you're you're you're cool. You got the rice and
you get the seaweed, and you got the fish, but
it doesn't taste fishy.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
No, then your stuff can handle all the worms, the
tape worms that it brings. You know what.
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Sushi?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
What restaurant you go into, sam Wu, don't don't go
to that sushi restaurant.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Well, all you can eat sushi.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Hey, come on down to worm Sushi.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Great a from the health department out there all over
at worm Sushi.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
Go ahead, go ahead.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
I'm sorry, I was I was going to answer Brooks question. Yes,
they'll make martiniz at American whiskey, but I know the
one she wants, so we'll have to talk to Alejandra
when we get there.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Well, I'm sure they make some good mar Margarita's Devil
Heaven is excited about gritzuk.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah's.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
We were talking about Paul Cotter.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
The one thing, you know, I didn't see all the goals.
But apparently Nico dawst in themselves such a good game
again pre season, not really too much to worry about.
But yeah, I think he let in four. I think
he got lit up for four in the second. So
I think if it's if it's it's continued saves, three
(16:11):
saves and four goals or something like, yeah, it wasn't
it wasn't a good percentage. Yeah, super chat you Joseph, Joseph,
make ALTI or only we need to move Casey.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
He's too good to not be starting. Uh, Defensemanmas is preferred, clearly.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
I wouldn't say that just yet.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
No, perhaps because well listen, Nemitz had a great playoff run. Yes,
but it was a little shaky up up until that point.
And I know I've said this proof or on the show.
Let's let's see if it's if it's a full season
of this wonderfulness. I I you know, venture you to
(17:01):
look at the statistics of one Ty Smith, who in
the short blast and his little shimmy shake move up
at the blue line had a lot of US Devils
fans wowed, and when he got traded it was like
and I don't even think. I don't even know if
he's I think he's out of the league. He's only
he's only just bounced around, you know, between HL and
(17:24):
NHL level.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
So before we crown, before, before we crown one of these,
you know, you know, there's a there's a couple more
coming to I heard Shelon Keith was quite impressed with
Ethan Edwards, another Michigan.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
Defenseman that came along that played at the same time
as Luke.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
And I don't know if Casey.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I think Casey was there at the same time too,
own power, but Ethan Edwards apparently he's been having a
nice camp.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
So we'll see where we end up with all that.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
I'm looking it up now. Ty Smith currently has no
contract there you go mm hmm, because I think he
was sent to Carolina after after Pittsburgh there was that
trade that Carolina I think made. He was like an
ancillary piece in that and uh he was with the
(18:24):
Hurricanes twenty four to twenty five and he's currently a
u f A.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
He's actually right now is Hoboken right now?
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Yeah, cooking up steaks for Jack and Luke them doing
the little door apartments there.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Butler listen like they.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Listen, listen if if, if he's in Hoboken making steaks
for Jack. I got an inline hockey team that he
can come play on while he's waiting for his pro contract.
I can guarantee, I don't think guarantee he'll do phenomenal there.
Oh no, we want him on him, We'll take him.
(19:02):
I'll take any former NHL player to be on my team,
including Ty Smith. Well, you don't trust Philly Dean, No, no,
I don't. No, he's been my defenseman. No, I don't.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Well, shorts guy isn't. But yes, Devil Heaven. The Devils
are pretty deep on defenseman at the moment. Billy Dean doesn't.
His depth not so much.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
But he takes up space from Yeah yeah, b politics
is actually not that bad if you think about it.
But everything I'm not sure about.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
What's the best aspect of Billy Dean's defensive game.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
He takes up space.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Well, knock on, He's like Swiss cheese. The Bucks and
the players get right by him.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Oh, poor Billy Dean, Devil Heaven. What will take Luke
to sign from my inline team. We'll pay his league
fee and we'll buy a beer that's what his contract
will be. Basically, we'll see see Brooke Brook just that
(20:24):
answered it as well. The only thing that we can
offer is an I p A and impending failure which
is which is always a dark cloud over our team.
Speaker 3 (20:36):
And Billy Dean blocking out.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Billy Dean is on another Billy Dean's on a whole
other team, so Luke would actually be playing against Billy Dean.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Oh okay, Yeah, Well we're hoping to see a contract
for mister Luke Hughes in the relative near future. We've
been hearing some reports, you know, about them being close,
about them seeing seeming to be settling somewhere in the
six to seven year deal, and Elliott Friedman was saying, ah,
(21:05):
hang on, that's not accurate. So some misreporting happening. But
it seems like there's been a lot of dialogue going on,
which is a good thing.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Yeah, that there's been a lot of that hasn't been
I'm not talking to you, and I'm not talking to you.
I'm out at here, you know.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
So it's just like the dialogue, it's very important that
it has been continuing like this.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, And I feel like that because it was so
quiet that everyone's fear was there was no discussions going on,
but it seems like they have been discussing there and
they're just there. They haven't been able to yet come
to a decision, and you want them to make that
the the player wants to make the right choice for him,
the organization wants to make the right choice for them,
(21:50):
and it's it's better they're both happy, or at least
both mostly happy with the contract and continuing to talk,
versus signing some kind of a crapped deal either on
our end or there ends. And then there's resentment. There's
you know, there's resentment on the player side for not
getting enough. There's resentment on the on our side, you know,
the fan side for looking like, oh man, why they
(22:13):
There's so much being given to one player. So I'd
rather than be talking and hashing it out than not.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Thank you for the super chat number two from from Joseph.
I love to donate the channels. I like. Thank you
very much, Joseph. You foresee being off the books this season. Well,
if you donate some more, I can get a plot
Jersey jersey two for one, get rid of both Polat
(22:41):
and that Jersey jersey out of the New Jersey Devil's
organization and then you get the best of both worlds
any Jersey, I buy the guys all his career is
over and you know that's another one on the Mets.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
I got his jersey and we and we just found
out and Twitter have your have your day with this.
But sam Ou is the reason why why Reche was
traded starter Jersey, no less dog.
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Cameron.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Yeah, well, I I will say that I do foresee
that happening. As long as plot plays decent, there will
be some team.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
But again, he's.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Got a no tree or no movements. I think it's
like a ten team.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
Yeah, so it might be.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
It might be tricky, but I can see them now.
I mean with Covid Savage going to be on the uh,
you know, injured list, I think Nason will be as well.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I think that's what I was reading.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
They'll they'll have enough salary cap room for the time
being where FITZI doesn't have to complete a trade at
this moment due to long you know, long term injured reserve.
He doesn't have to complete a trade at this moment.
He can use that that cap space from the l
T I R and sign Luke and you know, maybe
(24:12):
a couple PTOs.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Or whatever, and make our way, make our way forward.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
But eventually a move will have to be made. And
your too obvious choices I think are plot and probably
Dougie Hamilton because his contract is just so massive and
he's got a lot. He's got worth too, He's got
he's got some worth.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Yeah, Pallot's got the modified no trade clause with a team, Yes,
but it also it also says as the no movement clause,
and it also listed as having a no movement clause,
meaning that it can't nothing can't happen without the player's approval.
So there's potentially maybe a team that they can move
him to that might not be on that list and.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
They can't bury him in the a h L and
that's why they can't h L.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah, damn it.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Yeah, he's got that NMC. All Right, I got two
questions for you guys.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
All right, let's see.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
First off, and this is a completely hypothetical, but I
think it may may. I was reading some you know,
some gossip on the old interwebs from a couple different
NHL you know rumor sites and blah blah blah, and
someone pointed out the idea that if the Devils struggle
(25:48):
through the first half of the season, that Sheldon Keith's
job might be on the hot seat. If that's the case,
if they struggle, Do you think that's true?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Hmmm, No, ninety nine point nine. But I would say
the point one percent. First off, his track record speaks
for itself. You gotta look at the whole body of
work with with the Sheldon Keef.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
All right, hang on one second, I'll say I'll say this,
Say at you know, you know, the new year, at January, okay,
January one, say they are.
Speaker 3 (26:42):
Two games under five hundred.
Speaker 1 (26:44):
M stay, stay the course, stay the course of Sheldon Keef,
and I'll tell you a reason why who are you
gonna play some with replace him with? That's the million
dollar question. That and that's and that's my my my
reasoning for ninety nine point nine percent. Okay, you know,
(27:07):
unless you know, I don't know, John Cooper retrained for
a lot for John Cooper down in Tampa.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
But you won't you wouldn't feel like his you know,
a job might be in jeopardy if they're not playing
up to the expectations of where everyone thinks that they
should be.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
No roster. David Blitzer in that press conference was gushing
over shel Y Keith when they hired him. And not
because he was gushing. He told the reason why he
followed his career since the Major juniors, and he knew
a lot about Shelley Keith, not that he was like
normally David blitzeruld be reading off a Q cart like
(27:50):
he had it right in his head. Why And I
was actually pretty impressed that the actual owner knew why. Yeah,
instead of being told why he should like you know.
So that's that's my reason. That's my personal opinion. We
all have opinions here. I like to hear shorts guy's opinion.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
You know what, Sam, I like your your your thought
with Okay, so let's say.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
You disagree.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Kind yes and no, Yes and no, because if there's
no one available to replace him, you know what, you know,
what's what's it going to do. But as the thing
is this, this team needs to show that they're good,
(28:42):
that they need that this team needs to win in
order to do the big things that we all are
hoping for, such as getting the third Hughes brother to
come here, you know, uh In Markstrom to re sign.
And it's it's we have to do well, we have
to win, and yes it's also players, but it's also
on Sheldon Keif. But at the same time, if there's
(29:04):
no replacement, then like you got to do something. I
could see maybe Fitzgerald being more open to a trade
first getting rid of Sheldon Keef and to see if
maybe bringing in a different player or shipping out a
different player would change the dynamic of the team to
make things better. So, you know, with the exception of
a very small number, let's be ready to potentially say
(29:27):
goodbye if they don't, you know, do well. So it
could be it could be maybe a trade at first,
but if it's still not going well, I mean, two
games below five hundred in January, it's tough. But you
also that's not taking into effect into account what the
rest of the Metro is looking like too. If the
rest if, like the entire Metro Division is just sucking
(29:49):
it this year, you know, okay, because all all you
gotta do is be top three in that division, which
it's one of the hardest ones in the league.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
So so you got, as you're saying, use your brains, yes,
all right.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Another super chat from Joe ALTI needs and Stevens would
probably both be down to fix this team. After watching
the Jets today, ownership, Nico is a winner, Jack gets hurt.
Lots of comments in that super chat on YouTube live.
(30:29):
I don't know where to start with that. I've always
said Eve been on record and saying this that if
the Devils could, could you find in some capacity to
bring Scott Stevens back to the organization, like on a
on a full time basis, I think that would be wonderful.
(30:51):
Needer Meyer, He's he's a West Coast guy now, you know,
you know you like saving the environment. He's doing his
own thing. So I'm not so sure if he would
come back, But like the the thought process there watching
the Jets, the j E t s Jets, Jets Jets
(31:12):
or suck Suck, suck. That's what our buddy Hans would
say of of you know, the Meadowlands, not the Winnipeg. Uh.
It's all on ownership. Yeah, look, you know I I
mentioned this too Nick Vallana on Pucks and pitchforks dot
(31:33):
com State of fan address and you know with ownership
group owning pretty much. I don't know, big soccer team,
the seventy six ers, the Commanders. Uh, David Blitzer owns
part of the Guardians, and you know, at one point,
I think he owned a minority owner of the Steelers
(31:55):
or whatever at one point. Right, And now you got
this one point seven billion dollars stadium that they're gonna
build or there or no, it's gonna be three billion
or something like that. The old RFK Stadium site and
(32:15):
all that kind of stuff. And if you remember that
the seventy six Ers had this grandiose plan to build
in Center City, Philadelphia, which I thought was stupid because
my family were like, I'll get them out of China Town.
But out of nowhere they stopped and went with the
cheaper route to do a deal with the Flyers, the
(32:41):
renovator or whatever. And with this, you know, with Joshua Harris,
his full focus, his passion is with the Commanders. Do
you think they're gonna have that kind of same like
passion to make the Devil's a Stanley Cup winner? They're
(33:01):
spread too thin. I think thank god he didn't buy
the Mets. That's another issue. That's another podcast.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
All right, Well, after that, can I ask you guys
the second question that I wanted to ask you, Yes,
you can all right.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
The second question was who do you think.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Has the potential or you know, you know, do a
little little season predictions here. Who do you have selected
as your, you know, breakout candidate of the year for
the Devils. And it doesn't have to be someone, it
doesn't have to be otherworldly, but for our team important
for our team. Who's going to have a breakout season
for these New Jersey Devils this year?
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Hmm.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I know who I have in my mind, and I'll
say my first one so you guys can think.
Speaker 3 (33:58):
But it's some one who I'm thinking.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Maybe, after all this time was a very high high
draft pick.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
It's played on a couple different teams.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Now, he showed some some sort of glitz, but it's.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Never been consistent.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
I think this is the year that Cody Glass gets
it all together and maybe doesn't have a thirty goal
season or something like that, but just consistent production, steadiness
out there for an entire year.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
And I think that will be.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Extremely noticeable on this team where I can't count how
many podcasts we talk about the need to fix the
bottom six last season over and over and over again.
So for my you know, I'm thinking breakout candidate who's
gonna have that season where you're like, yeah, and again,
(34:56):
like I said, I'd be thirty forty goals or something
like that. But just having that really good season that
people have been waiting for. I'm looking towards mister Cody Glass.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
Yeah hmmm.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
And YouTube on YouTube. By the way, if you want
to chime in.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
You guys can chime in. I'm trying to think that
was that was my That was my answer. But now
I can't use Cody Glass because then this guy's gonna
accuse me of plagiarism.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Well I already you know, we know that's true.
Speaker 3 (35:32):
But you can take.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Joseph uh McAuley's he says, there's an easy one.
Speaker 4 (35:40):
Yeah, he says, it's krits yok, which is definitely that's
what everyone really wants to see.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
It could be Paul Cotter, you know, it could be
him because he's playing for a big contract along a
longer term deal, you know, trying to establish himself. As
I would say, the physical presence on that bottom six.
Somebody that has that can put up points, It can
(36:11):
wear down the opponent and eat up ice time while
the top six are on the bench, when of the
third lines out. If he performs and he was inconsistent
last year, you want to talk about with if you
put him on a line with Cody Glass, that could
(36:32):
be I wouldn't mind co winners of that breakout where
they compliment each other. One physical one's you know, you know,
very talented down the middle. You have caught her on
the wing and Cody Glass. It could potentially be a
nice third line that Fitzi's been wanting for a very
(36:56):
long time now. I think the only time they ever
really rule consistently four lines was that record breaking season
that they a few years ago when they had one
hundred and twelve points and they were healthy. But since
then it's been very inconsistent that bottom six unfortunately. But
(37:17):
when they are consistent like they were the first three
months last season before Nate just had to pull off
that Oscar performance of dying on the ice and then
all hell broke loose and the team went down.
Speaker 3 (37:39):
Jay Snow says Temo.
Speaker 4 (37:41):
I was thinking that, I was thinking, aj.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
Visco, says Dawson Mercer.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
oOoOO bold, bold predictions.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
Yeah, man, I can go, And I'm like my brain
is fired in like a million different directions of.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
I really kind of want to throw.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
An odd one out there, go board and breakout a
breakout season in a very odd way. Jack hits eighty
two games.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Played, Okay, that would be a breakout for him because
he's never done before.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
No, I was, I was just looking just as as
you and Samue were talking, just to you know, the
highest that he's played as close as seventy eight.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
But he hasn't.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
You know, He's played sixty two the last two seasons,
and we need Jack, and seventy eight was the highest
other than that, he's it's it's sixty two or lower
for every other season with the exception of that one
season he played seventy eight. Because if we're going to
do well in the playoffs, we need Jack there. We
need a healthy Jack Hughes. And he wants he wants
(38:55):
Queen to come. You know, he said he wants to
play with Quinn and I know a lot of people
were talking about at that interview like, uh, you know
he didn't say where. It's like it's one of those
questions where if any of us were to be asked where,
to be asked you would you love to play for,
you know, a professional sport at your sibling. The answer
is probably yes, you know in some capacity. You know
it's it's you know he was being vague. Yeah, he
(39:21):
was being vague because you have to be vague, you know,
because it's a no win situation. He's If he's vague,
people are going to lose their minds. If he's specific,
people are going to lose their minds. So he's he's yeah,
but yeah, breakout season Jack Hughes plays. I'll say eighty games.
I'll I'll amend that. Eighty games. Okay, eighty games, and
then because we need him, we need him for the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
I'm putting the market like thirty four, thirty four, what
games played? Yeah, I'm just managing. I'm just managing my expectations.
So I'm not disappoint that's all. So if he plays
thirty five that I'd be happy. Joe again with the
(40:09):
super chat. Conner is underrated and he's skilled and just
gets put on bad lines. That's what he says that
aj Visco of the Law Offices of aj Visco. So, Sam,
are you gracing Tampa with your presence? Lol? I'm assuming
(40:30):
you're referring to that October eleven game. I would say
I'll give it a five chance only because I got
that go wild unlimited flights. Frontier Airlines take a direct
flight from Trenton Airport where Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindberg
(40:53):
used to fly out of, and goes straight down to
Ortlanta or Tampa and maybe I'll see you there. But
there are blackout dates, and unfortunately there's blackout dates because
it's Columbus Day weekend, I'm not unable to use that pass,
so I actually have to spend money to go down
h So you know, if the super chaps keep up
(41:14):
between now and then, maybe I'll race your presence or
if we can find a way to shoot my old
employer and uh, you know, you take your fifty percent
and I ut no money down on my part. I'm
okay with that too.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Doesn't Frontier have that whole fly your own plane promotion?
Speaker 1 (41:31):
You know?
Speaker 4 (41:31):
Yes, you see that too, man, Yes they too.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
I love I love flying Frontier out of at a Trenton.
It's such a good time.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
It is an awesome time. I mean hanging out of
the bar beforehand. Yeah, you know, you have good food,
you get to see that plane.
Speaker 4 (41:49):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
I've never been to the Trenton Airport before, so I
don't I don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
It's amazing.
Speaker 4 (41:55):
Let's put it this way. Let's put it this way.
You can get there at we're five in the afternoon
or in the evening, whenever you want to call it,
and you're there before the TSA agents are even there.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Yep. They literally inspected both back, my personal carry on
and my They ripped it apart last time before I
went to Gold Florida. Yeah, it was security's tight there.
You know, they don't mess around TSA. So that's like
(42:29):
the best part of flying or even going to a
Devil's game is getting padded down. Love it, love it.
Speaker 4 (42:36):
Yes, Security's super tight.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Love the attention I get when I get padded down. Sir,
what's the one? Are you having something in your pockets?
It's like, oh, hold on, let me check. Ah, it's
that fortune.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
Cookie from lunch, you know, it's always a fortune could.
Speaker 3 (42:54):
Fortunately, it's a burrito.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
It's a pocket Burrito's.
Speaker 1 (43:00):
Wendy's biggie bag, you know.
Speaker 2 (43:04):
Yeah, all right, I think I think we might need
to start heading over to final thoughts.
Speaker 1 (43:09):
Yeah, you have to start.
Speaker 4 (43:11):
I was gonna say, do you guys, Yeah, did you
guys know the Giants game. The Giants are playing a
EY twenty.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
I didn't hear.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (43:18):
Yeah, what a coincidence.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
We might come back on when they're down like forty
forty to nothing. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (43:26):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (43:30):
And at the start of the second quarter it is
Kansas City, thirty two Giants, nothing nothing.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
Listen, fantasy wise, I'll take it tonight. I'll take that
fantasy wise second.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
Oh man.
Speaker 3 (43:44):
That's that's why I need to not have a good game.
Speaker 1 (43:47):
Did make make it to the game? Did you fly?
Fly in? Where we're gonna find out? Hey?
Speaker 4 (43:53):
Sam?
Speaker 1 (43:53):
I don't think Sam's Frontier though.
Speaker 4 (43:56):
Well, Sam Brooke just put in the chat she flew
Spirit once and actually it wasn't that bad, but Frontier
is not a risk she's willing to take.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Well, I have news for her. Okay. According to Forbes magazine,
Frontier Air is ranked number one for low budget airlines
in terms of safety. Spirit didn't even make the list
because you know why, because.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Their high budget.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
Probably no good Tobes dot Com twenty twenty five, listing
that that they had me there. I was like, Okay,
if I'm gonna be safe, I'm gonna get that go
wild pass for two hundred and ninety nine dollars. Now,
it's like that you're five nine.
Speaker 2 (44:37):
Is that you're saying I got Putt in group six
one time and he said, the hell with this, I'm
going low class airfare.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
From now on.
Speaker 1 (44:45):
Yep, Southwest the memories anyway, who's going f Well.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
My final thought is, uh, I'm gonna stick with the
same thing I've been saying for a couple of weeks here.
Health of this team. We're already seen an injury with
Stephan Nason.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
I know I didn't.
Speaker 3 (45:05):
I think the.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Chance got dinged up at the prospects game and someone else.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
I think, yeah, the a minor things.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
But still, as short, Skuy was mentioning, we've had injury
issues with this team for a few years now. So
the health we're gonna get these guys to stay healthy
for an entire season, Uh, they will wreak havoc on
the NHL. So I'm gonna stick with my same final
thought again and just say that I really want to
(45:38):
start this this season as healthy as this team possibly
can be.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
You're already down Nason now, I didn't see how long
is he going to be out. Did anyone see that?
Speaker 1 (45:50):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
I don't think they said, or at least if they said,
I missed it as well, even though puck Pedia didn't
say anything.
Speaker 2 (45:58):
I'll have to look it up. But that's that'll. That'll
be my final thought. Stay healthy, team, stay healthy.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
My final thought is simple. We have live shots on
goal along with the score and the time, and I
am thrilled. Oh happy day. I can stop complaining at
least about that.
Speaker 1 (46:27):
All right, my final thoughts, I just want to take
a little time out, a little seriousness here. Uh. Bernie Parant,
hockey legend, great goaltender, passed away today. I had the
privilege of meeting Bernie Parant, uh years ago, about about
(46:52):
five ten years ago, when Bill Clement was you know,
he was on Bill Clement Show interview I was producing,
And every time I saw Bernie Parant very charismatic. He's
obviously very popular down in Philadelphia. But when he talked
(47:12):
to you, he always made you feel good. He was
always positive. He was ambassador of the game, and you know,
and he made you feel special where he was only
talking to you in the room when everybody else is
clamoring to get his picture autograph or whatnot, and he
always obliged and was always nice to the fans. So
(47:35):
we talk about Marty Brodor being a legendary goaltender and
Bernie Parant when he beat Bernie Pront's you know, regular
season record at the time back in two thousand and seven.
Rest in peace. Bernie Parant was a real privilege and
honor to meeting you. So that's my final thoughts.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Nicely said, absolutely, Yeah, it was really nice guy.
Speaker 1 (48:03):
His wife Jeanie, Uh, it was just such a nice lady.
And I actually did, through Chico, actually meet his daughter,
Kim Kim proNT, and the meeting was actually about her
starting a podcast and she wanted to introduce us, and
(48:23):
I was I wont to say giving advice but giving stories.
He's like, she goes like, don't, don't, don't listen to him,
but I just want you to know what he did.
And then you know, I'm just kidding. But it was
really cool to meet her. And she was very good
friends with Race Shiro because you know, all the players
kids and even Fred Share, you know, Race Shiro, they
(48:45):
all hung out. I was just hearing stories about that
and all that. But anyway, all right, so uh, dropping
the podcast at midnight, keep it here seasons back. Yeah,
we're gonna get out of here for that Giants game.
Until next time, let's go dumb.
