Speaker 1 (00:05):
Happy Devil Sunday. This is the Let's Go Devil's Podcast
or is it Devil's After Dark? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Make the call.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, you make the call. Two shock jocks on air,
screaming live on Facebook Live, YouTube live x live and
switch on the Let's Go Devil's Network company Live live
from the Primetime radios to studios inside the Bunker and
undisclosed location Beautiful in New Jersey and Cross Cotton in

(00:45):
to the Michael J. Fox Studios in Beverly Hills, California.
It's Scottie a Cirrus XM liquid metal beer baron is
an assignment tonight. Short Sky is probably cleaning up all
the garbage from the Sussex County Fair.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Okay, yeah, I lost I lost my YouTube app there
for a second. It took me a minute to actually
find it. But we're good to go. The chat is open,
Sam wu is it YouTube live? Baby? YouTube live?

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Do you remember those commercials? By the way, do you
remember those commercials back in the day that you you
make the call? During the football games, they would come
on and they would yeah, show a play where it
was like, I don't know, is this you know? Is
this a fumball, Was this out of bounds? Was this
a catch?

Speaker 1 (01:44):
What was it?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
And then they go to like another commercial, and then
they would come back before the before the play restarted
with the actual answer. I love I love those little things.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Wow, I remember taste great, let's feeling remember those commercials?

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Oh yeah, those are great?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yeah? Or but light beware of the penguins. Uh, Steve Engle,
Steve do do that's right? Or what?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
No? Let's not do that one. Let's let's go to
Dobe doo we do okay, and the you make the call,
I think we should do the NHL version of you
make the call, and then everything is. All you have
to do is just say, yeah, it was interference, and
you get it correct, you know, like at the it's
something and the Devil's after dark.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
This is the Devil's after dark focus. Yeah, you know,
you make the call. Did did Jack Hughes cross check
Matthew could chuck in the back or did he just
bounce off of him?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
All you need to know is if the Devils are,
you know, in the offensive zone, it is goaltender interference.
If they're in the defensive zone, it isn't goaltender and
inference that's all you need to know for those questions
right over there. Oh yeah, the brilliant uh you know,
maybe site challenged NHL officials that we have out there.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, especially the off sides. You know, suddenly when the
Devils enter the zone, the NHL has these like satellite
cameras from outer space knowing if the puck was over
the line or not before this gate.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
You know, well, now there's like intent of like hitting
the puckers. So whatever that cap was that they got
caught on one time, it's like it's clearly over the line,
but all of a sudden there's an intent, you know amendment.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, don't look at don't look at the replay. It's
just an optical losion. The Devils were offside, no goal.
It's always happens that way, right, How don't we look
at the rest bank accounts? Maybe something's going on over there,
you know. So we got some comments. Steve Engel, I

(04:03):
was in Hacketstown yesterday. Did you go to Enzo's in
Hacketstown Mansfield? Uh? Because they have and crew brew? Do
you know how and Crew brew both cans and kegs?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Oh wow, yeah, that's impressive.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Yeah. Matt Freudenberger Hey, Matt, I saw brother Mike yesterday.
I was actually at his house. Matt Freudenberger, you know
he knows, Michael, I miss hockey. Both Yankees and Mets
suck and there's nothing to watch. Funny you should say that, because.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Why do you when you read their messages, why do
you kind of yell them You're like, Matt Freudenberger.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
I miss hockey.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
The Mets and Yankees really suck.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Why why do you you know I miss hockey?

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Up there?

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It was all caps. I miss hockey. I forgot to
I forgot to turn it down as scoach, you know,
after reading that, and plus there's exclamation points, so I'm
sure he wanted to say it in that fashion.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Gotcha, gotcha? Yeah, And Steve Engle continue, sorry to interrupt,
Sorry interest.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Steve Engel says, IBM presents you make the call.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
Now. Wait, IBM is all caps there, So why why
was that give given that.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Emphasis in content? In context, it's an acronym. Doves is like,
what's up? Boys? I was looking at the schedule to
pick a game or two to attend at the beginning
of the season.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
All right, Well, I don't think Duves actually talks like that.
Tell you the truth.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
I know, I'm not sure. Joseph Linnham says.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Hello, Well, keep the comments coming. We're gonna play a
little fun, you know. Can you stump the wu? Can
you stumped the same woo a little later on like
we did last week, because everyone seemed to enjoy that,
So we'll try to stump the wool a little later on.
But we did hear some albeit very brief and you know,

(06:13):
not really overly exciting news, but it was good news
to pass along in the contract negotiations of one young superstar,
the current Highlander on the on the Devils, because there
can be only one same woom, there can be only
one that would be Luke Hughes, and it seems that

(06:38):
both he and mister Tom Fitzgerald are on the same
page when it comes to looking for the long term deal.
Looks like it is going to be a seven year deal.
They're just hammering out those dollars right now, which we
know The Devils might be a little short on question
for you though, Oh who the Sam Sam Wu?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
The Devils.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
In the next few upcoming seasons do have a lot
of salary cap space. It'll lost the books after this year,
do you think, you know, knowing that the Devils would

(07:29):
potentially buy out and Andre Pillotte and suffer that little
bit of a even though we just got uncovied, do
you think Tom Fitzgerald will do that if he's unable
to move him?

Speaker 1 (07:43):
First off, who's coming off the books after next season?
And how much space are looking at?

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Well, the cap goes up.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
The cap goes up. Yeah, Mark Strom is on as
he has one more he'll be yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yep, he'll be done. But the I think the big
thing is like the cap going up.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Okay, the cap?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
Where's a.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Cap is also going up for everybody else as well? No?

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, exactly, let me, I'm gonna google it.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
You talk.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
So where's Max our statististic statisticianys?

Speaker 1 (08:28):
He's too busy, I don't know, probably preparing for the wedding.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
NHL salary cap for twenty five twenty six season is
that ninety five point five? Wait, where's the cap has
expected to rise to one o four in twenty six
twenty seven?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Yeah, and then one thirteen in twenty seven to twenty eight.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
So knowing that, what was questions if if we know
that some of the dollars are gonna be a a
problem here for Luke because they're just they're a little
short with the salary cap this year.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
You know, you would think that FITZI would be trying
to move up a lot in that six million dollar salary.
Maybe he's got to eat some of it if he
can't get any takers. As we get closer and closer
to training camp, do you think he's a by I
don't even know when is there a buyout deadline? I
don't even know off the top of my head.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I don't know that. I'm sure Nick Folano has that
in his head.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
But knowing that you're getting that extra cap space coming
in the next two years, and you got all these
guys locked up here, the Temos, the Jacks, the Jaspersnos,
you know, the Peshi's like you you have like these
guys lined up, and then you're gonna get this like
cap space to be able to go and add to that.

(10:08):
Do you just take that and just be like whatever,
if we couldn't move a lot, we could move a
lot like buy him out.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
Yeah, and a lot. He's got what ten teams, so
you're kind of limited there. And then you know, because
the ideal team for the New Jersey Devils to trade
to is a team that's trying to struggle to get
to the cap four could could take on, take on
and you know you're gonna have to give up maybe

(10:37):
a prospect, a couple of draft picks, whatnot. You know,
it's just a salary cap. It's a financial transaction essentially.
You might have, you know, to tell you the truth.
The more I think about it, Scotty, you gotta you
got to weigh the cost benefit of that that you're

(10:59):
gonna buy a plot to get Luke Hughes signed to
a deal now, which would save you in the end.
So you put it's kind of like, uh, it's kind
of like going to the bank to buy a house.
You know, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're. You have to
put a payment.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
It's it's it's the down payment on the Hughes house.
Because if you got Jack and Luke lined locked up, yeah,
I mean we already know that Quinn is you know nine,
sure he's on his way over here to to to
NJ to play with Jack and Luke. But you lock
Luke up and now it's just all but a matter

(11:40):
of time. And then you realize you got that. You
know that extra cap space coming off. You know, with
the with this slod cap rising, it's not gonna be
as big a deal to fit Quinn in there it
would be now with Dougie. But you know, once it
goes up, won't be as big of a deal.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, and once you lock down Luke to a long
term deal, your leverage against Vancouver goes up.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
It doesn't matter. I mean, Quinn's gonna be a free agent,
He's gonna be able.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
To go well. I think at that point, probably Vancouver
would probably want to trade Quinn because now it's guarante
two brothers are there.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Go for it, and we'll still sign him in the
off season. You know, there's no reason for the Devils
to have to make that trade because Vancouver is gonna
try and get everything they possibly can.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Well that's that's exactly what I'm trying to get at.
But I'm sure because what NHL team, unless they're looking
for a rental, would throw a lot of players for
Quinn Hughes knowing that he's gonna be gone to New Jersey.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
I mean, you know, someone in a in a playoff run,
you know most likely could be But if I was Fitzy.
I wouldn't get you know, I wouldn't. I just wouldn't
sell the house on it, because you can just sign
them as a free agent.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
You lock up Luke.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
It's all but said and done, basically.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
Yeah, and they're all.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
The crazy thing is, though, like once this cap goes
up and there's a lot more wiggle room, you have
this really insane core all like just around eight million
dollars which are just gonna be They're gonna be bargain
after bargain after bargain after bargain. Yeah, I you know

(13:50):
I'm looking at it the wrong way.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
No, I I think I think you're looking at everything. Uh, well,
you did more research than I did.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
For I told you i'd have stuff to talk about
every time I come on this podcast. We never we
never prepare. Well, somebody prepares all the time, you know,
that's me. I'll read a couple of articles beforehand and
just think of some things. No, I do, like Norm McDonald's,
I don't have what they what they call opinions, So
I just turn on the TV and listen to whatever

(14:22):
someone's saying on there, and then I repeat that and
see how people, Oh, good old.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Norm A little bit of my video.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Okay, damn it.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Yeah, we're gon. We're gonna have to work on that.
I got some solutions for you, but we'll talk off there,
I said tech. But hey, you know, remember Nathan Bashion.
I wanted him to be protected in that expansion draft
and then to Seattle and then you know when it's
in there, Hey, you signed with Dallas. I'm happy for

(15:00):
for him.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Yeap signed with the Dallas Stars. You know, wish Nathan
the best. I don't think he was ever ping to
come back on this team. Maybe if he didn't get signed,
maybe as a PTO or something like that. But good
luck to him. You know, bast did uh he did.
He did well at times sometimes he was frustrating, but

(15:21):
you know, earlier on in his career he delivered a
lot of big hits and he did he did kill
some penalties, which was nice. Did have a little bit
of an offensive.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, not really, but when he parked his butt in
front of the crease on the power play, he was actually.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
I was trying to sell it there. I was trying
to sell it, you know. But no, but he had
some good moments as a devil. So you know, congratulations
to Nate and uh, you know, wishing the best down
there in Dallas.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
Yeah. Absolutely. I'm also distracted with these comments here because.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
He goes from one one team with a really cool
jersey to another team with a really cool jersey. And
my I like the Dallas jerseys.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
I like the song, That's what I like.

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Well that of course, yes, the PANTHERI penned gold song
for the Dallas Stars. But at first I was like,
why did Dallas change their jersey? Because I liked their
old one from like the nineties and early two thousands,
and I was like, why did they change? Why did
they change? And then you know what, I really like
the d with the star and that that green that

(16:40):
they have there. I don't know, I really dig on
those jerseys. I think they're really nice. Yeah, bottom stripe
maybe that's what it is. They got the bottom stripe
that I'm always like, where's the Dallas bottom stripe?

Speaker 4 (16:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:53):
And I like sometimes in the years past, like they
have some jerseys that I like to put under a
black light because it just looks so cool. Mmm. You
know tho's that fluorescent green?

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Oh yeah, the Fireman jersey, Yeah, all that it looks
like it looks like the fireman reflectors and stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
So yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Yeah, good for Nate Bastian and happy for him.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah, I like it when the players get good contracts.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Sure, yeah, I think it was it was a one
way deal too, So good for Nate. He'll go down there,
he'll be on the fourth line. It's funny when we
got a little group text from our buddy Beer Baron
and when it was Nate Bashion, It's the first thing
that pop in my head is like it could just
see him, like seeing the Rangers sign him and being
on their fourth line for like the next three or

(17:42):
four years or something like that. I feel like we've
had this run of like fourth liners who we let
go that the Rangers signed afterwards and then they you know,
stick on the team there for a little bit. Yeah,
looks my looks like my interwebs are glitching again.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Huh yeah, yeah, just a little bit, just a little bit.
But let me take over. Let me take over a
little bit. You know, maybe maybe I can bring some
more insight Devil's upcoming season. I mean we're not very
far removed. I mean, in less than a month, we
we got the Prospects Tournament, challenge up in Buffalo, New

(18:28):
York that happens every year. I'm really looking forward to
seeing some of these prospects, you know, Yegorov. I mean,
in my opinion, I think, I think, I think he's
really one of the most important pieces in the Devil's
Farm system right now, Scottie, because it's it's all about goaltending.

(18:53):
You got some size as well, Sev. You know again,
grit Sick is coming over to uh North America. He's
gonna get a shot again. I'm not sold on him.

(19:13):
I know there's a lot of hype. Maybe I've been
traumatized in the past with others that have come over
from the KHL, like Goosev. But it's a totally different scenario.
So you know again, I'm cautiously optimistic, all right, just

(19:34):
cautiously optimistic. Well, one thing for sure, I can't wait
for her opening night. Opening night, just a Florida Panthers
and I'm getting texts Now I thought it was you, Scottie. No,

(19:55):
not me, Okay, anyway, Florida Panthers. But also if you
go when they start the season on the road, you
got Carolina, you can make a road trip of this,
like get in the car. You can drive from New
Jersey to South South Jersey, Raleigh, North Carolina, October ninth,

(20:19):
hit that and then after the game, you know may why,
you know, the next morning head down to Tampa. Because
they got Tampa on October eleventh, that's Saturday, October eleventh.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Why wouldn't you just fly?

Speaker 1 (20:39):
I'm a road trip kind of guy.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Okay, Besides, it seems like you could get it done
a lot quicker if you just, you know, flew to
Raleigh and then flew to Tampa.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Yeah, you know, yeah, but I think they played I
think they played Columbus. Did they play Columbus? When? Did
they play Columbus on the day the follow week? On
what the schedule in front of me?

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Yeah, I'm not sure, but yeah, if you can't, if
you can't do it road trip, it would be fun
to get on down there and see him. But I'd say,
see see if you can buddle any of those plane
tickets and make it a little easier on yourself. Sam
Wu just doesn't like it because he has to fly
like group five, group five, that's what it was. I
would say group six. Samuel got downgraded to group five.

(21:35):
Standing there with all of his equipment. Well everyone else
went aboard. Yeah there's Sam all the bags.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Maybe maybe I'll fly Frontier. I love Frontier Airlines. I'm
telling you it's one of the best airlines around. All right,
all right, but.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
I would I would say that, Yeah, you know this,
they gotta get Luke Hughes obviously figured out, and they will.
But you know, the start of the season is right
around the corner. And that's why I'm pretty pretty sure
there's gonna be some movement here, because I don't think
you want Luke, you know, doing any of those contracts

(22:21):
set out thing or I don't know whatever, you know,
I just don't want any of that sort of headache
going on over the season. Let him focus in on
getting ready to get prepared because he's gonna be playing
an even bigger role on this team. And yeah, they
just kind of figure out where they can get a
little extra money, a little extra money, Sam wu We

(22:43):
also have they said anything about the expansion, Man, I
really hope they don't do that because there's too many
teams already.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
I don't think they think Atlanta is in the running.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
Well, oh Atlanta, it's already bombed like twice over there.
I'd say try Houston.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
If you're gonna try, I want Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Sam, I don't know why you want Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
When they had the Thrashers there, they had a they
had a little fan base called the Nasty Nest. I'd
befriended some that's why you want to back. Yeah, I'd befriended.
I'm sure. I'm sure they're like f you to the
NHL right now, but.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
You know, probably probably i'd say Houston. But either way,
you made me think of something though as well, when
you were talking about Nate Bastian. Something else to keep
in mind. If there is an expansion, you're gonna have
an expansion draft again, so you're gonna have to protect

(23:55):
some players there some most I think we should be okay.
But if that happens, is that we get rid of
it pretty interesting?

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Well?

Speaker 3 (24:10):
No, no, because he I think he because he's got
the no movement clause. So I think you like you
have to write isn't that? I thought I read that
somewhere that it's like you have to protect him because
he's like over what is it like age thirty five? Right?

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Is that old now.

Speaker 3 (24:32):
Or will be at the time?

Speaker 4 (24:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Yeah, if the expansion drafts happened, So I think like
there's a couple guys like that that you would have
to you would have to protect no matter what. Oh boy,
people are gonna be so pissed if that happens and
he's taking up a protected spot.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Oh I love Paul Connor. How come he's not? I
got the bulls. He's on the bubble. What are you
talking about?

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Uh, oh man, don't riot.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Everyone will riot.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Let's feel bad for the you know, oh you did
it to me, the trust gets blamed. Oh man, Steven
Tartars pay him in wu bucks.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Well, you know, you can have a whole episode how
to how to get Palat out of here?

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Maybe that means that's basically all we've been talking.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
About, was like, that's the entire summer.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Should we buy him out? We're getting more you know,
salary cap next year.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
It's only been this year we gained a little bit.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
Signed Luke, get it done.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
Maybe maybe I'll get someone really behind start harassing them,
you know from the stands, be.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
Like that, what was the the homer at Homer at
the plate, homer at the bat the softball Simpsons where
they're like the whore the was it Darryl Strawberry that
they were they were any like you see the little
tear going out as.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Oh man, hey what's up there? So like, uh, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
What happens here though, But they Yeah, they got to
figure out the Luke us. That's what we've been saying.
But at least we know that the contract length, they're
on the same page four. They don't really want to
do a bridge deal. I'm thinking if they we're going
to do a bridge deal, maybe we probably it might
be a harready done by now. Then you know they
were gonna do something like that. So this is probably

(27:10):
good news that's taken a little bit longer, seems to
me like trying to find that.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
I think the Devils as a whole are very strategic
with announcing their signings, the long term signings. Like remember
when Jack signed that eight and eight deal. You know
he was on the sideline hurt, you know, he's on
injured reserve, and then he's gonna come back. So he
Jack Hughes barely tweeked. He's like he said something like

(27:36):
I want to play hockey or something, and then the
next day it's like, oh, he signed the sixty four
million dollar deal. While he was out.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
You know, so you think I Fitz, he's just waiting
on it. He's sitting on it right now.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Yeah, he's probably sitting on it right now.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
He's probably like, all right, was his trolling everybody?

Speaker 1 (27:56):
Yeah, they're looking at ticket sales right now. They're looking
at ticket sales right now. If they're not strong, hey,
let's announce it. They'll buy more tickets if we announce this.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
I mean, of course they do.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Steven Tartas, who wouldn't want a thirty point player for
six million.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Dollars a year?

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Come on, everybody does.

Speaker 1 (28:20):
It's a very solid thirty points, it's strategically spread out. Yeah,
empty net goals and you know, just happen to step
on the ice and touch the puck.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Uh, Well, we'll see what happens with it.

Speaker 4 (28:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:43):
But other than that, there's not too much.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
Devil's news, you know, happening right now. Obviously, training camp
hasn't started, and that's really the only thing that's been like,
you know, poking around camp right now. I think, you know,
maybe we'll see like a pto or two come in.
We'll see what happens there. But you know, just gotta

(29:07):
get gotta get mister Luke, you signed and these boys
are ready to go.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
They need to be healthy, Scottie. I mean last season
they oh yeah, of course, right start first couple of
months of the season, they pat the points on they
were able to get a playoffs spot, only won five
games against the Carolina Hurricanes. I mean the their schedule
we talked about this before. Their schedule in the beginning

(29:34):
of the season is tough, it rough, it's it's it's Carolina,
and then he got Tampa and then you got I think,
I think that's Columbus Day. I think do they play
Columbus on Columbus Day? I'll find out yeah, me, maybe not,

(29:56):
I don't know. Then they're playing Columbus. Then they're back
home open home opener. Just the Panthers. I mean, there's
a possibility that the Devils can be like oh and
seven to start the season.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Why why you want to put that evil on us?

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Saying well, why why want.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
To do that?

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Because I'm running out of things to say.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Don't you put that evil on me, Ricky, Bobby, don't
do it.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
I'm managing expectations because if they're a five hundred team
after the first seven games, I'll take it, we'll say,
but but if but if there's seven and no, then
it's like, wow, you got you got a real great team.
Here my camera went out.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
Yeah, that's a hell of a freeze frame for it.

Speaker 6 (31:00):
It's like, oh, man, well, while we have been talking
about a lot but also New Jersey defenceman, I thought

(31:25):
we might play a little.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Stump stump the Sam Wu.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
Can you stump Sam Wu on his New Jersey Hockey
Devil's history?

Speaker 1 (31:37):
All right?

Speaker 2 (31:38):
No, a Sam's Sam's allowed to google and neither are you?

Speaker 3 (31:45):
All right?

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Neither are you?

Speaker 3 (31:49):
Okay? You can play along. You can put your answers
in the chat, but no googling. Only I'm allowed to
do that because I have the answers.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
Fact checking. That's what we do here on the Let's
Go to Old podcast.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
That's right. Oh okay, mister Sam Wu. Now I think
you already know the answer to this question. Oh I
forgot to say the subject. So last week we were
doing Devil's goal scorers top ten goal scorers for the

(32:32):
history of the New Jersey Devils. So this week, because
we had mentioned it, you know, what were the top
defensive goal scorers in New Jersey Devil's history? So that's
what we're gonna go through here and see if we
can stump Sam wu all right, and I'm gonna take
away all of the you know, like Colorado Rockies, if

(32:56):
someone had a killer year with the Scouts or something
like that, all that is, you know, yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
With Bobby or mysteriously was Kansas City Scout for one year?

Speaker 4 (33:10):
For one year?

Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yeah, nobody knows about that.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Oh oh man?

Speaker 7 (33:17):
Okay, So Sam, will I think you know who holds
the number one spot for you know, all time goals
by a defenseman?

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Jee, Actually you don't, Okay, guess.

Speaker 3 (33:38):
How about this. I'll give you a I'll give you
the hints. It's either one or the other.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
Who.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
I'll give it to you this way. Who in their
New Jersey Devil's career amassed a goal total? Now this
may be number one or number or two. I'm out,
a goal total of one hundred and twelve goals? Was

(34:10):
it a Scott Niedermeier or was it b Scott Stevens?

Speaker 1 (34:23):
By default, I would say Scott Stevens. That was my
educated guess.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
That's your educated guess.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Yeah, okay Stevens.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
You can't you can't guess all of them steven Tartans.
He can't guess. He guessed Niedermeyer, Stevens and Driver for
this week. You can tell you what try. Bruce wasn't
even a part. It wasn't even an answer. Selection over there,
Neither was Brian or Fosky or Andy Green.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Stepherson.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
I will say he select a selected kind of got
you here stumping Sam Wu on the very first one.
It was Scott Niedermeier, number one overall goal total with
one hundred and twelve goals for the history of the
New Jersey Devils. No scouts.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
That's interesting to me.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
One hundred and twelve, one hundred and twelve. Now who
was in second place?

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Scott Stevens.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
Was it a Scott Stevens or b Bruce Driver.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
I'm going with Scott Stevens. But then again, Bruce Driver
did play a lot longer, or did he? No, I'm
gonna go with Scott Stevens.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
And you would be correct, sir. There you go, Sam
Wu back on the board over here. And actually Stevens
played a hell a lot more games than Bruce did
for his Devil's career. Scott Stevens second all time with
ninety three goals, Bruce Driver third all time with eighty
three goals. Stevens nine hundred and fifty six games played

(36:15):
for the Devils, Driver seven oh two. So Bruce was
Bruce was a scoring machine. But we all know Scotty
kind of switched over, you know, and just went straight defense.
But he was known for his offensive side a little
bit earlier in his career, first few years he was
on the Devils.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
And oh boy, fuck, I.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Can't even get the words out of my mouth.

Speaker 8 (36:44):
Here in fourth place all time for New Jersey Devils
goals by a defenseman.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
With fifty eight.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
What former.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
Sam Woons but current HL player holds that distinction, pup buck.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Damon Severson.

Speaker 9 (37:16):
It would be Damon Severs with a whopping.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
I was, man, you don't realize.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
I mean he was there when he was eighteen years old,
six hundred and forty seven games played for the New
Jersey Devil.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Wow, I mean you think Driver had six seven o two.
Holy heck.

Speaker 10 (37:42):
There's not very many people that have Damon beat out here,
Naeder Meyer, Stevens, Driver, Andy Green, Dan O, No.

Speaker 11 (37:59):
Tommy Aveley only has five thirty nine. Wow, that's a
lot of games for Damon Severson. In a Devil's uniform.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
That's a lot of torturous years.

Speaker 3 (38:12):
For sam Wu. Sam Wu is not happy for a
long time. All right, here's a good one, now, okay?

(38:35):
Who would be fifth all time in Devil's scoring goals?
Excuse me? Goals? Well, no, I guess Rafolski wasn't never
a captain? So Rafowski or Andy Green is gonna be
the next one? I said this would be forty nine

(38:58):
career goals a Andy Green b Brian Ruffowski.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
I would say Andy Green, and you.

Speaker 2 (39:12):
Are correct, sir.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Forty nine goals in nine hundred and twenty three career
games as a New Jersey Devil. All right, how about this?
Who would be next on the list in what do
we say? This is sixth place? Would it be Brian

(39:34):
Rafoski or current defensive goal scoring beast Dougie Hamilton.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
I'm gonna go with Hamilton.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
And you would be correct, sir. He's got Rafoski by
one goal. Forty five goals as a New Jersey Devil
for Brian, I mean for Dougie Hamilton, Brian Rafolski forty four.
And here's the thing too, Dougie has only played two
hundred was it two hundred and twenty eight games and

(40:11):
he's got forty five goals. Damn that's some offensive production,
right there.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
A lot of them on the power play.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
Yeah yeah, all right, Sam, Will who oh wait, what
is that? That's five six seven? So we got number eight?

Speaker 2 (40:49):
I take seven?

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Right?

Speaker 3 (40:50):
Seven was for false case? Number eight?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Okay, this.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
Which which former New Jersey Devil defenseman, is next on
the list. And this one goes back to some of
the old days. Is it a Tommy Abilene with five
hundred and thirty nine games played as a Devil?

Speaker 2 (41:16):
Or Joe Cirella.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
With five hundred and three Joe Sorella? And you are.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Correct again Sam, with what is this?

Speaker 3 (41:30):
Forty three career goals as a New Jersey Devil?

Speaker 4 (41:36):
Not bad.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
I thought Tommy Iblen would be higher, but he only
has twenty seven career goals.

Speaker 4 (41:45):
So what was that?

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Was that number nine?

Speaker 3 (41:46):
I think that was number nine?

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Right?

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Who rounds out the top ten?

Speaker 3 (41:58):
I'll give you this one will be a number three. Okay,
let's give you three choices. Is it a I'll put
Tommy Abilene in there? B the enforcer of the Let's
Go Devils podcast, Ken Daniko or c A man who
you know sometimes doubles fans man forget the few. He

(42:22):
was on the team for a number of years actually
there with the Zach Fereze, Travis A. Jack Langan Brunner
time there before he went over to Pittsburgh where he
spent the I think the longest portion of his career.
Paul Martin.

Speaker 1 (42:36):
Yeah, I would say with Daniko just because of longevity,
and he played in the eighties.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
You are right with one and eighty three games played
in a New Jersey Devil's uniform, thirty six goals. Paul
Martin only had twenty six actually, and he played war.
He played four hundred games for the Devils.

Speaker 2 (43:02):
That's a lot.

Speaker 3 (43:10):
And cast uh casting off, cast a ton off, that's
what it was. He had thirty one goals and only
two hundred and fifty seven games.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
Yeah, he was good with Fatisof when they when lou
brought him over.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
Yeah, yep, I'm surprised I dident see Fatisof on this
list there. But do you always think of the older
the older years, the guy scoring so much more, you know, well,
not bad Sam Will You only got like what was

(43:46):
that like one wrong?

Speaker 1 (43:48):
Yeah, that was the first one.

Speaker 3 (43:50):
I think you can only got the first one wrong.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
Yeah, yeah, I wasn't sure.

Speaker 1 (43:54):
I wasn't sure between Niederbyer and Stevens. I went Stevens
would by default only be because he played the same
amount of years on The Devils with Niedermeyer just about.
And yeah, and uh, you know, Needermeyer was like a rookie,

(44:15):
you know, while Stevens was going into his prime.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
So yeah, selected, says Damon. Severson had me saying damn it,
Severson the whole one. Dubbs wants to know why, Sam,
you haven't bought a pilot jersey yet? Is it in
the cue?

Speaker 1 (44:40):
Do you have a GoFundMe so I could buy that
jersey or go to my cameo page and request a cameo.

Speaker 3 (44:50):
Request a cameo with Sam.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Wo he gets some value out of it. You know.
It's six dollars and sixty six cents.

Speaker 2 (44:58):
Oh very nice.

Speaker 1 (45:00):
I can say, hey, you know, you know you'd be like, hey,
happy birthday to you. Select the boy I do cameos.

Speaker 3 (45:13):
We're just gonna have to get We'll just have to
pitch together. We'll come together and get Samuel Way to
make it happen.

Speaker 1 (45:25):
Wow, is it gonna be a Jersey jersey. Maybe they'll
get rid of the Jersey jersey if I try to
buy one too as well.

Speaker 9 (45:38):
Yes, I'll pay for it right off out of my
own pocket if.

Speaker 1 (45:42):
That's yeah, Yeah, get me up Jersey.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
It'll be in the mail tonight, no problem.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
As soon as he arrives at my house. And like
breaking news, plots been bought out.

Speaker 3 (46:01):
The plat Jersey Jersey has arrived. The Devils will now
be wearing their stadium series jersey and instead the upcoming year.

Speaker 1 (46:12):
Yeah, yeah, and all the plot. I'll probably spend like
four hundred and thirty five dollars, four hundred and thirty
five dollars of your money on that palat Jersey, and
then it's gonna be all on sale. You can probably
find it at U like odd lots, you know, sur
plus sales at these discount stores for twenty five bucks.

Speaker 3 (46:34):
You know what we're gonna do after that, We're gonna
make like a miniature bronze statue of you in the
UH in the Marty goalie gear, and we're gonna put
it up right next to the real Marty statue outside
the area.

Speaker 9 (46:50):
If if you get the jersey and they trade polot
or buy them out and they don't wear the jersey
jersey next season, we're getting that bronze statue of you
as well in the Marty gear.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
You know, you know I stood in front of that
statue in the Marty gear and just like holding a pose.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
Yeah, but we're bronze statue. Ah, is my internet glitching again?

Speaker 1 (47:25):
Yeah we might. We might as well get the final
thoughts now before I lose you completely. And then my camera,
my camera feed is like.

Speaker 3 (47:35):
Me like this, oh man, all right, well yeah, sorry,
I don't know what's going on out there. Maybe uh
spectrum is just well, it usually pretty terrible out here
in LA. But either way, yeah, my final thought is

(47:58):
we're on the right track or some thing.

Speaker 4 (48:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (48:01):
I'm kind of I don't have a final thought at
the moment.

Speaker 1 (48:04):
My final thought is Scottie get new Internet.

Speaker 3 (48:09):
Yes, that's a that's a probably a better final thought. No,
my final thought would be just a little, a little
little patience axl Rose gun n' Roses style over there.
I know we want everything now now now, But you know,
I fits he's not just you know, sitting on a
boat somewhere fishing, not paying attention to anything. He's working.

(48:31):
They're trying to get this thing done. It's good news
that they are. They are together on the years, and
it sounds like they're together on the money. It's just
they literally have to find it to get him in
under the cap. So just a little more patience will
be said to sam Wu, I'm gonna be buying that

(48:54):
jersey for Sam Wu. If that's all it takes, We're
gonna get it done. We're gonna get it done, and
then we'll will auction it off, you know, after this,
after the trade goes through, or after Luke signs with
the money, we'll have like a trivia whoever wins will.

Speaker 1 (49:19):
Uh. Like I said, I think maybe fits he needs
to go soprano style on plot, you know, maybe bury
him in the bury his salary and in the in
the Pine Barons. Remember you.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
Had something there and you kind of lost it there.

Speaker 4 (49:41):
Didn't you.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
No, It's just that I get no, but I get
I get distracted with your feet. I'm like, do we
lose them? Am I talking to myself? But you remember
that episode they buried that uh, that guy in the
in the Pine Barons, but he wound up whacking him.
Did you watch sopranos.

Speaker 4 (50:05):
Yes, yes, yes, but I didn't.

Speaker 3 (50:07):
My my feet is starting to cut out over here.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
Anyway, all right, I want to thank all those tuning in.
My final thoughts are no news is good news. It's August.
I'm not expecting anything, but maybe I should get that
plot Jersey a plot Jersey Jersey, and maybe both will

(50:33):
go away.

Speaker 3 (50:34):
A lot Jersey Jersey in the in the mail to you,
Sam Wu.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
Make it happen, folks, go on my Twitter Twitter account
at Primetime Sam Wu or x, and then you'll see
that link to my cameo. M alrighty, we're getting out

(51:00):
of here. Yes, the interior Decorator Pine Baron's episode Ted. Yeah,
you're the interior decorator and he killed ten checkles Avakians. Anyway,
all right, see you later, Scottie. We'll be back next week.

(51:21):
Till next time. Actually we might not be. I might
be on the road, but we'll discuss that. Let's go Devils,
