(00:38):
Happy Devil Sunday. This is theLet's Go Devil's Podcast. I'm your host
samou here with Short Sky, Scottie, a zero sex, a liquid metal
and beer Barren Yeah Baby screaming liveon Facebook Live, YouTube Live x live,
a Twitch on the Let's Go Network. You guys seem like you're really

(01:02):
depressed on my screen right now becauseeveryone's looking down as I'm doing the intro.
But that's okay. I don't likeinterruptions anyway, That's fine, as
we've got tough games ahead for yourNew Jersey Devils before All Star, a
lot of pissed off Devils fans,a lot of negativity, some positivity,

(01:26):
not much, but anyway, Helloeverybody, Hello, what is up?
Yeah, there's a lot of negativitybecause you have this beautiful night. You
have this beautiful night celebrating one ofthe greatest Devils of all time in Sergey

(01:48):
Breelin, and the team forgets toshow up and doesn't just forget to show
up, but gets absolutely embarrassed. If anybody's ever seen Letter Kenny, I
kicked the garbage can across my livingroom and just went embarrassing because that's what
it felt like. This is thatwas just one of the probably one of
the worst games I've seen oh year. Thank god it wasn't there in person,

(02:09):
because contrary to Tom's belief, Iam not the Jinks on his team.
It might be Tom, our loyalfriend and a friend of the podcast,
but it was one of those gameswhere I was like, all right,
won nothing. Whatever we go down. It won nothing. In every
single game this year, it feelslike, actually, with the exception at
thirteen out of the halfway point,we've only gone scored the first goal thirteen

(02:31):
times, I believe, and thenit just spiraled viciously out of control.
And when it was sixty two toScott g d Wedgwood, first start of
the game Wedgewood, it was,you know, jessper bretton to fully scoring
was I didn't even care. Ithink I turned a game off when it

(02:52):
went for nothing because it was justso pitiful. So yeah, negativity is
there's a negativity for a reason. We'll get more into that. Do you
guys think Vinnie and I were talkingabout it in pregame that uh, you
know, the Devils had an opportunityto really take a lot of emotion in
the beginning of the game and toreally kind of turn it into a win.

(03:14):
And then we were talking about too, about how uh, how this
would mean a little bit more forthis New Jersey Devil's team because Sarge is
there in their faces daily like theyshould, they should have more of a
vested interest in playing for him,uh and and for his night yesterday,
but they just did not. Itwas it was just it was bad.

(03:39):
It was just so bad, youknow, they they they took what should
have been. They took a nightthat was fantastic for you know, before
the game started, and then assoon as the play started, it was
just like, I don't know,I was close to turning it off,
but I did not. I sufferedthrough the end. Uh with all that

(04:01):
Scotti. Yeah, I mean Ithink it was pretty much written on the
wall how it was going to go. I mean, Dallas, Dallas is
coming off and embarrassing lost themselves toPhilly. The Devils, you know,
not good at home, and they'reabsolutely atrocious in the second half of their
league high sixteen back to back gamesthat they have this season, So it

(04:26):
was all primed and ready for aletdown. It really, I actually was
not shocked at all by this,And I think every Devil's fan too.
By the time the third period started, they were just like, yeah,
whatever with this game, Let's gosee what's going on with the playoffs in
football, you know. But yeah, they I kind of almost expected this,
tell you the truth. There's alot of issues on the back end

(04:50):
with the young defenseman. They arethey are, They are really out of
position a lot of times. JohnMarino can't cover three people at once.
I like what I've been seeing fromCowfoot. He looks very solid. And
by the way, everyone YouTube,Facebook, Instagram, twitch x wherever QR

(05:13):
code in the corner bottom left ofyour screen, scan it. Join our
crew. We got big announcements coming. We're working on some stuff, some
new developments for the big Tailgate partythat's going to be happening on the seventeenth
at you know, as I liketo call it, Giant Stadium still from
Forever Stau across from the Brendan BurnContinental Airlines Arena. So just scan that

(05:39):
QR code, Sam Wu. Aswe know, put a whole hell of
a lot of work into that fivehours, five minutes whatever. No,
you know, we're not gonna itwas a lot of work, a lot
of work. Yeah, and missusLou's eyes. There was a lot of
work when Sam should have been takenout the trash or something like that.
Uh, he was making QR codes. So bail amount of trouble if you

(06:01):
would, because he has banished tothe dungeon of missus Woo's displeasure Palace and
stand that QR code and make sureit's all good. But yeah, for
that game, like I literally waslike almost expecting this to happen. We
know about the home woes, weknow about the second half of the back
to back and interesting stat for you, the Devils are what they're nine and

(06:24):
one in the first game of theback to backs and then there one eight
one and get get this, theone game that they lost was the one
was the series was the one gamethat they won the second. How ironic
is that they haven't just they haven'tscored. Yeah, they have not swept
up back to back yet this season. Yeah, and we got more coming.

(06:46):
There's more coming next week. Soyeah, there's one hundred million of
them coming. But you say, like you're a god's expected and you know
it's a letdown, it's more.That was more than a letdown, man,
That was like that was in anabsolute embarrassment to the point and listen,
fans, I've been trying to ridethe positivity wave. And it's funny
because right before we came on,Sam was like, oh man, you're

(07:08):
like the positive one. I'm likeI am. But to a point,
you get to a point with thisteam where it's like you could be positive
for so long. You're okay withlike certain moves and certain things. And
I understand the injuries and this andthat, but yesterday's game was so flat
and unmotivated on a night where you'rehonoring somebody, and I feel like you're

(07:30):
not just honoring a player that's gonnawalk on into the ice and watch,
you know something, go into therafters, or you're not gonna just honor
somebody that used to play here andplayed a thousand games and have some silly
little tribute to them. You're honoringsomebody that means so much to this team.
And it's currently one of the coachesof this team. And if I
were him, I would have comedown from the skybox that they put the

(07:51):
other coaches in and I would kicksome ass. That was an embarrassing team
effort. And you know what,Yes, there's a lot that there's a
lot to go on those young defensemen. But guess what, there's some forwards
that should be coming back and helpingout on the defensive side as well.
It just seems like they're an unmotivatedand unenthusiastic group and they are night and
day game the game before they youknow, they win, and they win

(08:15):
convincingly. They go into this gameand it looks like they're a pee wee
hockey team going up against an NHLteam. It win at home, that
just means they can't prepared, theycan't win at home, and they can't
win in that second half of theback to back. And then you put
that against Dallas, who's a reallygood team who's coming, Like we said,
we're coming off an embarrassing loss. And what they get what they lose

(08:35):
five to one to Philly two nightsbefore they're rested up. They were in
town, they took the nice morningskate and everything like that. And for
whatever reason, we know, explayers love to just have these like career
games against us. If you lookat Scott Wedgwood's numbers against the Devils,
it's unreal and the dude stood onhis head. It's not like The Devils

(08:56):
didn't get good off either, asthe winning Scott I mean, don't mean
Wedgwood, Sam, don't say that. Don't say that the Devil's got good
opportunities. But he played absolutely lightsout. I mean he's bells. He
took one to the noggin off fromthe Cloud and he still stood after that.

(09:20):
Yeah, that hurts. I cantell you for from experience. That
hurts like hell, and it justcuns you. And then what was even
worse, what was even worse,The puck went off, the helmet,
The helmet flew off, The puckwent behind him, I believe was behind
him, And I forget who hadthe open opportunity and missed. No,
no, they put it in,but they blew the whistle. They blew

(09:41):
the whistle. No, it didn'tgo in. It didn't go in.
I could. I saw Mcloud's armsand everything go up and they were pointing
to the goal. So I thinkit was pretty sure that someone missed it.
It was it was a miss, because I don't know if they would
have blown it that that immediately. If the helmet comes off, they will
blow it quickly, but I don'tthink they would have blown it that immediately.

(10:01):
If it was like a bang BanBank play or like a bang Bang
play, so it probably would havecounted. But whoever that was missed the
net just completely. They just wejust look so snake bitting. Offensively,
it's not good. We look awfuldefensively, it's not good. Nova.
Nova's got it here. Butch wasgot a nine to seventy save percentage nine

(10:24):
three. No, I think youagainst us unreal, that's unreal. At
least they beat Old Sideburns the nightbefore because Hr Lincoln's plays really good against
us as well. You know,we've we found a number Selvis. You
know, he's a hunk over there. So I don't know what the hell

(10:46):
is up with this team they Idon't know. I will say this,
you brought up cal Foot. Iwill say this, this is kind of
like an on a lighter note,on a lighter note at the end of
the first period. I so thathighlighted him where he backed into Steel,
who wound up going into DAWs andthen immediately Calfoot after knocking Steel Intodaws,

(11:09):
which knocked over DAWs, turns aroundand starts cross checking the heck out of
him and then goes and skates acrossthe heck and more. And as soon
as I saw that, I said, you know what, It's exactly what
Sam's cousin, Marty will do tome and for me on the rink and
has done that on the rink. And I was able to pull that clip
today and I said to him andhe's like, yep, I've done that

(11:31):
before, and I was like,I know. That's immediately the first thing
I thought of when I saw that. It's like, oh, here we
go, cal foot pushing someone intoa goalie and then cross checking the crap
out of him just because he wasthere. I've seen this play before in
front of me. It's it washysterical. Yeah, I liked what I've
seen from him. When I wentto see the Devil's uh And play Montreal

(11:52):
on Wednesday this past week and footmdeis his NHL debut. One of the
things that I couldn't get over ishow he was paired with ball and I
kept yelling football, football, football, and how that hasn't caught on anywhere
is beyond me. But figure thingsto worry about. But yeah, I
know my daughter, My daughter watcheda game the other day because she was

(12:13):
with me. She goes, hey, Dad, Look, it's football,
and I'm like, thanks. Ithink that might be the only person who
finds that joke funny. I don'tknow, probably probably. Hey listen,
I'm still saying that is the dadjoke of to end all dad jokes over
there, not not all of them, but it's it's in there, you
know. And when Ralphie see Santa, would you like a football football?

(12:39):
Yeah, the boy football. Ithink that just made it worse right there.
I don't know that's what that was. What my intention was as producer
Sam's favorite movie, as bad asit was last night, and it was
bad as bad as it was lastnight, and you have the crowd chance

(13:00):
fire, Lindy. You have peopleleaving well before the game was over.
You had booing, you had wehad the unrest of the crowd going on.
The Devils are only two points outof a playoff spot with half a
season ago, with yep, seventysix points up for grab, So I

(13:20):
mean, no, the season's notover. If they make no sweeping changes
to the coaching staff this year,I don't think I would be shocked.
Don't think anybody here would be shockedif Lindy Ruff is riding this all the
way through the end of the year, especially if he regroups his team and
gets him into the playoffs. Yes, they're missing Jack Hughes mightily, especially
on the power play. You don'tthink Jack Hughes makes an impact on this

(13:43):
team, You're blind And as toquote Lindy Rouff, you're not watching hockey.
It's hard though, because there's somemoves that are made, and there's
some things that are done, andyou see other teams making moves like,
oh, great, now we haveto do with Patrick waugh in uh,
you know, in Long Island yousee moves like that being made. And

(14:03):
of course when the fan base isfrustrated and they want something to happen and
nothing is happening, it's just goingto compound those issues. It's going to
compound the way that everybody's feeling. So hopefully, I know, I know,
like this All Star break can happenfast enough because they need a full
rest and a reset. And asyou know, the NHL is pumping out

(14:24):
all their materials and all their promosfor the All Star Game. They keep
putting Jack Hughes's face and name upthere, so we're all assuming that he's
going to be there. Unless they'rejust that dumb and don't realize that he's
hurt. So hopefully that means Jackis on his way back, or he'll
be back maybe a game before theAll Star break and then you know,
come back fully after the All Starbreak. But this team just offensively seem

(14:50):
lost without without his drive, somenight without his with without his play,
you know, Timo Meyra, alot of people are complaining like once again
he's going to take a little timeto beget to speed under him. We
saw what happened last time, andI don't know which one of you guys
pointed it out. I think itmight have been Sam, But even like
Tyler Tofoli, it looks like he'sdealing with a little something. So the

(15:11):
injury bug hit this team harder thananybody could have ever expected in the beginning
first half this year. The secondhalf can only be better, the second
half where this team is starting toget healthy and start to look like that
that Florida Panthers team that went ona run in the second half last year.
And by the way, for allthose people that were looking for Corey

(15:31):
Perry to join the Devil's team,to add a little bit of grit.
He went to Edmonton, but youknow what that means. That means Edmonton
will make the Stanley Cup Finals, but there's no way in hell they're going
to win it with him on theteam. Just saying love it and uh,
just one last quick point on calFoot three games, nine block shots

(15:52):
to lead the team. So somethingwe've definitely been missing, were missing,
And somebody, please, somebody pleasefind the Ninja Turtles costume and dress up
like the foot Clan and start likea you know how there's the Brat pack.
Let's start the foot Clan and justhave people showing up in those those
costumes support like like the morph suitsthat they wear up there in Calgary or
not Calgary, sorry Vancouver. Ohman, I used to have one of

(16:18):
those costumes as a kid. Probablystill fits. Damn. I guarantee it.
Go get it, put it on. It'll fit like a glove.
Yeah yeah, oh yeah. SoI have a question for you guys.
All right, this is and becauseI'm hearing all the you know, reading
all the cliches that the fans arebeen spewing. Mm hmm. Using injuries

(16:45):
is not an excuse. Good teamsfind a way to win. What are
your thoughts. You can't feel sorryfor them because every team deals with injuries.
But the Doubles having an abnormal, unmountless year. And as we've talked
about plenty of times in the past, Jack Hughes Dougie Hamilton, that is
one hundred and seventy plus points outof your lineup. And as beer Baron

(17:11):
is saying here and I was sayingon Devil's After Dark, you know when
Nico was out of the team, they didn't look organized. Now n he
goes back to look organized. Butwithout Jack, we know Jack does not
like to lose. I see manyas sticks getting broken over the boards when
Jack Hughes is pissed off. Ithink me personally, like beer Baron was
just saying, I think Jack bringssome accountability to that team because Jack has

(17:33):
a lot of it. He hashigh expectations of himself and when he's out
there, I feel like the teamreally feeds on that as well. But
you take Dougie, you take Jackout of the equation, that's a big
hit to your special teams. Andthat's one hundred and seventy plus points out
the window. You put that withthree rookie defensemen that are learning on the

(17:53):
fly. That's it's gonna be troublingresults. It's gonna be troubling results.
And for anybody that's out there that'ssaying like, oh, you know,
Alexander Holtz gets benched for making aterrible pass in the middle of the ice,
but look at what Someonemich is doing. You can't really bench one of
your defensemen. You can't shorten yourdefense by one player that first of all,

(18:17):
it puts you in such a hugedeficit for the rest of the game.
And second of all, yeah, does it happen. Sure, Yeah,
John Marino has been benched during games, Like there are certain guys that
get benched during the game, butI don't think Landy's in the position right
now defensively, at least to benchany of those guys a forward you can,
you can set an example, andmaybe that's what he's doing. He's

(18:37):
trying to set the example with AlexanderHoltz, and he's like, you know
what this kid is gonna be,you know the one that I the one
that I go out there and I'mgonna be like, all right, this
is this is my guy. LikeJessper Bratt when he was doing that to
him when he first got here, and he would bench Bratt for what seemed
like at the time, no reason. And he was really really hard on
Jessper Bratt, and he used tocriticize his game a lot, openly criticize

(19:00):
his game a lot, and lookat the player that Bratt turned into.
Would he have done that under anothercoach, Yeah sure probably. Would he
have projected to be where he isright now? Yeah sure probably. But
maybe that's what Bratt needed. Maybehe needed that tough love to get over
a certain thing. Maybe that's whathe needed to get to be a productive
player. And maybe that's what's happeningwith Holts too. But these young defensemen,

(19:22):
mistakes are gonna happen. It's boundto happen. But and we glaze
over it so often. The lossof Dougie Hamilton, like you were just
saying, Scottie is way bigger thananybody gives it credit for. He is
your number one pairing defenseman. Thenyou lose Seagen Thaler on top of that,
So you know, yes, Ihate the excuse that injuries in the
team. A good team rises upand plays better. But godly, you

(19:45):
got it. You're overcoming some crazydeficits to come out there and play the
way a big boy club needs toplay. You're losing guys left and right,
and you're losing pivotal pieces to yourteam. And then by the way
that has to restructure your team, you lose Jack off of your power play
Guess what now you have to restructurenot just your first power play line,

(20:07):
but your second power play line. You're losing seagin Thaler. You're losing these
guys. There goes your you're aPK. You're losing these So you're losing
pieces and you're having to shift otherpeople around. You have to giving responsibilities
to other people that maybe have neverhad them before. So it's not just
like, oh, one guy isout of the lineup and it's okay and
we could just fill that gap.No, it's a that's a big deal.
And it's chemistry too. Look atthe chemistry that happens between Jack Hughes

(20:30):
and jessper Brett and all those guys. You think that's easily replaced by throwing
somebody else on that line. No, so is an excuse, sure,
but is it reality? Yeah?Damn right, it's reality. Do you
want me to give you some hope? I'll give you some Always, Sam
Always, the way social media andDevia fans at the arena at the bar

(20:55):
American Whiskey made it sound like Ialmost felt like run the lottery draft right
now because it's so bad, youknow. And but if you look at
it right now, they're twenty threeeighteen and three with forty nine points.
Last year they were twenty nine twelveand four with fifty eight points, and

(21:19):
that includes the thirteen game heater thatthey went on. They're not that far
off considering the amount of injuries toteam A Meyer, Jack Hughes, Dougie
Hamilton, the list goes on.I don't think it's that bad. I
really don't think it's that bad.Still people want to fire Rugh. I

(21:42):
mean honestly, if Lenny Rough wontwo Cups, they still want to fire
at this point because it's like it'syou can't just it's there's there's not one
person to blame for all this. There's a plenty of blame to go around,
but it's also the situation. Itis what it is with the injuries.

(22:03):
So all right, so we've beentalking about this all season since September,
that our defense was young and itwas going to be risky, and
here we got Hamilton and Siegs areout and now we are Really it's kind
of screwed with our defensive play becausenow we have to rely on these young

(22:25):
guys. And we've I've said thisover and over again. You cannot hide
developing defenseman on your roster like youcan hide a developing forward. And now
we're paying for it. I can'ttell you how frustrated I was seeing that
that two on one goal that wasscored against my by Montreal with with Knemis
just skidding away from the crease withthat other Now, now, grant,

(22:48):
that was a heads up play bywhat's his name, the the forward from
Montreal. His name escaped me.The other dates escape me. Now,
heads up play because he knew wehad a young defenseman who was not back
who was not any backwards who wereskating forwards, who was probably going to
get drawn to that side in thatsituation. Uh. My guess is is
Namach had no clue there was thatsecond guy there, because in that situation,

(23:11):
Nemich should be cutting off that passand giving the shooter. Uh,
giving the giving giving the goalie theshooter. Yeah, just taking away the
pass give the goalie the shooter inthat situation instead of just peeling off and
and and going, you know, all off into that direction and leaving a
shot right there in front. Weare so inexperienced in our defensive corps right

(23:37):
now, and and we're making mistakesand mistakes. But a defensive corps is
not good. I'm disappointed. Yeah, Okay, So if a good team
is supposed to rise up and tomeet the challenge, what I'm disappointed in
is you have injuries, and youhave players who have an opportunity to say
this is why you need to keepme on this team, and they're not
rising to that occasion. Because atthat point when the when when all the

(23:59):
injuries are done, then the coachingstaff has a hard time to make a
decision wise, Bratt, I thoughtyesterday specifically, I thought he was invisible.
It wasn't until the third period thatI think I saw him on television.
They didn't say to from my recollection, they didn't say his name once,
but they didn't really say a lotof offensive players' names once because we

(24:19):
just couldn't do anything. I havelike Timo Meyer's play since he's come back,
He's just been so snake bitten. He has had so many great opportunities.
He did get the assist on thepower play Goald one night on I
think Holtz's goal. Maybe he gotone of those. Yeah, So he's
got assists and he's he's he's workinghard, he's going to the net,

(24:41):
he's putting pucks on the net. He's just getting screwed when it comes to
the puck going in the net.I've been happy with his play. Just
because he hasn't scored doesn't mean he'snot playing well. But this whole team
is just playing like garbage. Andand you know what, And I've defended
the goalies all season long, andafter seen a defensive play over the last

(25:02):
the last couple of games, nogoalie is gonna succeed with defensive blunders like
we've seen over the last couple ofgames. Specifically, no goalie is gonna
succeed. You know, we didwell against the BJ's, which we had
to. That was a four pointgame. But yeah, and I know,
I know it's it's halfway through theseason. We're not not too far
out, but we're letting games athands slip away. And these are the

(25:26):
points that are slipping away that we'regonna rue come mid April, when all
of a sudden it's down to itand there's four teams fighting for one spot
and one point and it's gonna cometo something stupid tiebreaker. These are the
games that are gonna screw us.So I know there's a half a season
left, but these are the typesof games that worry me when it comes

(25:48):
to making the playoffs. It's justit's not good and it's frustrating to watch,
and it's just I guarantee, Iguarantee last last night, Sarge could
have gone down to that locker roommid second period, thrown on equipment,
went out on the ice and donesomething better than any of the players in
the ice could have done. Looksjacket off before the red jacket, which

(26:14):
which I gotta say was a nicetouch. I was just like, hold,
he's ripped his jat stuff. Doit. He could still do it,
and I would love That's like, you need him, You need a
player like him to go out onthe ice at practice and just demolish somebody,
just open ice, demolish someone withthe check and be like that's what

(26:34):
you need to do, Like something'sthere has to be a bag skate.
There has to be something. Theseplayers need to skate until they throw up
on the ice, and then they'vegot to be told cut the crack yeah
worderline Marshall in the podcast, Iget it, but it's not good enough.

(26:55):
It is not good enough. AndI'll tell you what there was.
There was one point with the RedBulls a couple seasons ago where they were
playing like crap and we actually madea banner. We snuck a banner into
the arena that just simply said notgood enough, and it made the it
made the broadcast, and it madeheadlines around the league, and we held
it up. Then immediately they scoredto win the game or something stupid like

(27:18):
that, so we're like, oh, crap, bring you signed down,
bring you signed down, but kindof break it out and du However,
however, whenever they played like crapthe rest of the season, the screen
grab of that sign was was postedonline. But there needs to be some
kind of message to this team thatit's just not good enough. There's no
way on a on a night tohonor the coach that's still there. And

(27:41):
you're right, it's not a playerthat's just walking onto the carpet giving away.
None of these players know very muchof who it is other than it's
you know this guy from this teamfrom this many years ago. This is
this is the guy that's that's that'son the ice with you daily, that
has that has come up with alot of these guys from Utica. Yeah
mm hmm. It's like you shouldyou should want. If you don't want

(28:03):
to run through a wall for aplayer, for a coach like Sarge,
then what the hell are you doingthere? So where's the messaging? Like
why is the messaging loss? It'sjust it's so frustrating. But short skuys
So then that goes though too.Yeah, you know you got three,
you got one on each pairing thatdoesn't know exactly where they're supposed to be.

(28:26):
Luke, Gemmicks and and Ball Likestill you can't have like Cowfoot and
Grammer, you know, like theycan't cover everyone out there on the ice
at all times. Colin Miller aswell, I really think that's it's a
lot of the goals that you weretalking about, Like the first four yesterday,
I wouldn't put on Nico Dawes.Maybe the last two, but the

(28:47):
first four we're like completely. Pavelskiwas wide open in the slot. Oh
my gosh, that was It wasso second. There was two guys just
wide open, Like, why isNEMX out by the blue line? Why
is have them ball out by theblue line? Why are the side of
the net? You know, likeI those are basic defensive blunders. Though,

(29:10):
those are basic defensive blunders. Whois no, No, I know
he's young. I know he's young, but but but these guys have been
lifelong defenseman for the most part. They should know where to be. That's
this basic defensive play. That's basic, basic defensive play. On that two
on one against Montreal, cut thepass and let let the goalie have the

(29:33):
shooter. Unless you have no freakingclue that there's that there's another guy blitz
it in, which is also onyou too, like you should you should
have some situational awareness of what's goingon. It's just so frustrating. It's
it's it's not like these guys justpicked up a stick in September and said,
Oh, I'm gonna be a defenseman, So what am I gonna do?
But but but Salvador, Bryce,Salvador made a great point. When
you're playing an off wing like that, you know, like John Marino's doing

(29:59):
mm hmmm. It could be acluster of when you when you're you're used
to turning one certain way and andnow you're you're turning that way, but
it's the wrong way. So nowyou've made a mistake. You have to
correct, and you overcorrect. Soso this is just it's one problem compounding
another problem. And it's just sofrustrating because as more of a defensive minded
person, it's like, these arethe mistakes that should not be happening.

(30:22):
It's it's just like, come on, like this is basic hockey one oh
one, but it's at the mostelite fast level that you can possibly play.
Yeah, so they just need theyneed to get used to it.
It's growing pains, you know.I in like two years, I know,
I don't think. I don't thinkwe'll be seeing this stuff. But
we all remember how it was whenJack started, when Dawson started, when

(30:42):
Nico started. You know, whenall these guys were coming up, they
all had these blunders, and nowwe're going through it on the defensive side.
It just sucks that, you know, our our top pairing defense both
hurt long term, and then ourdefunct top pairing defenseman in Brendan Smith also
got hurt and now is on theIR you know so well, But it's
not it's but we saw this problem. We saw this problem brewing in September.

(31:08):
Why was that we saw it inSeptember. But we also had the
the comfort of knowing that it wasonly Luke and Ball and you still have
Brendan Smith, and you still hadthe option of of Colin Miller coming back,
so it was like, yeah,we'll have to deal with it for
a little bit. But then therewas like always the option of like,

(31:29):
okay, well, if one ofthose guys is having an off night,
you can bring in Brendan Smith andhe can be, you know, the
extra defenseman that like shuffles in andout of the lineup. But guess what
he's on. I R too everybodybecause that's the we're having. But it's
but that it's not like it's notlike we haven't seen these problems just in
the last two and a half weeksbecause of these injuries or since since November,
with these injuries, like this wasbrewing like it I would I would

(31:53):
sincerely hope, sincerely hope that FITZIhas been trying to bring in a defenseman
and if he hasn't, if hehasn't, then we see something that's that's
that the team doesn't see. Andat that point they've got to start giving
us some money and paying us toconsult with this with the team. But
I would still love to be thereand see what goes on in practice,

(32:15):
because some of these guys must lookfantastic in practice and are must look like
great practice players, but then cometo a game time situation and it's it's
sometimes they're just not performing there andthey're making mistakes, and these mistakes are
really really costing us, and it'sjust so damn frustrating, you know.

(32:37):
I you bring up a point whenyou were saying, like the coaches should
have a bag skate and they shouldgo out there and they should work them
hard and they should just be likethis is not good enough. The problem
is is do we know that thecoaching staff has been doing that or not
doing that? You know what Imean? Like, have they been doing
that? We don't have that accessbonding exactly. So that's the thing is

(32:57):
like, and and the people thatdo have the access, like they do
a great job reporting on it andit feels like we do get some insight
on certain things, but it feelslike there isn't a moment where a jelly
jar is being thrown against the wall. Do you know what I mean?
And any I'm making to that,Yeah, Like there has to be there

(33:17):
has to be that moment of like, guys, this is just this is
just not good enough and something needsto change. But it needs to be
said with a fire of brimstone wherethe Lindy rough has to come in there
after hearing his name being chanted fireLindy again has to hear the crowd booing

(33:39):
that there's no way those guys candrawn that out. I know they always
say, oh yeah, were drowned, alt the sound, drowned all the
sound. There's no way in hellthat they walked into the locker room not
hearing the fans displeasure after that gameand just says, all right, boys,
we'll just get him next time.Although I could be wrong because in
the press conference afterwards he was like, okay, boys, we'll just get
them. We'll get him next time. Oh wow, Buffalo Supernova. I'm

(34:01):
giving you the uh the Morris JonesDrew side look for your for your comment
over there. Yeah, who isimage? No, that's not what I
was talking about. Oh did youdid you see last week when Chris Rose
asked, uh m g d ifOh yeah, well look at Supernova's comment

(34:25):
over there as well. I'm givingyou the Yeah, I'm giving you the
the Morris Jones drew a side lookover there, super Nova. Oh Buffalo
wide right? Oh, no,wide right. The league, the league
is gonna get their favorite fan toto move on. We got two timeouts.

(34:49):
They got to stop him. Sorry, we're not broadcasting an unlicensed NFL
game right now. I'm just wedon't have express written. There's express oral
consent. Yeah, we'll just skipright over that again. Morris Jones Drew

(35:10):
said, I said I run thatone. I wanted to ask you guys
what you thought of the the ceremony. I know, I thought it was
done very well. I like everythingabout it. Love, love the red
jacket, love the big bottle ofwine. The only thing I have is
the actual like plaque and everything.Like it's just just like a little badge.

(35:35):
But there's no like the numbers noton it. Like the years he
played. It looked like the McMullenone. The McMullan. One was,
yeah, sick. That one wasjust start a ring right, just started
ringing for the ring of honor, like right right. It looks like one
of those signs that one of thosekids hold up, like please give me
a puck at the bottom, youknow what I mean, like rock paper
says, here are you for puck? I mean yeah, maybe they're gonna

(36:00):
put some more stuff behind it,you know, to make it like sort
of connect so you don't just seelike the shutter thing, like you know,
like the security shutters like just behindit. But where I liked every
I liked everything about the ceremony justexcept I was just I was really hoping
that it would look like mcmullins,M Yeah, Where's where was Marty?

(36:24):
And where was Patrick? That was? That was Marty was probably in the
press box doing his job. AndI mean he's he's up there, he's
doing his job. He's assistant GMand everything like that. I don't know,
like you know, what do yougot me? I mean they got
they got eight other guys down there. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe

(36:46):
he was out of town scoutlan.I really don't know, but could I
thought everything I really liked the redjacket. I thought that was a cool
touch. Did I really liked that? Ye, green jacket, red jacket?
Who gives it? I thought itwas cool. I just I just
I just something irks me about whena logo is on the right side of

(37:08):
a garment and not the left.Something about it just it needs to be
on the left. That's just mebeing a picky, you know, person
that works with clothing quite often.I do love you know, it's it.
I want to say, spacing wiseis probably why they they did what

(37:28):
they did. You know, theyjust put it on the wall back there,
and they're probably gonna, you know, put them along because of spacing.
So they want to be able tohave have the same type of style
for for the assume for the otherplayers which will eventually go up there as
well. I want to say itwas the same exact logo that might be
on his jacket. I can't remember. It's it's the same, So that

(37:52):
that's kind of cool. Like yourjacket is is what what's up there?
You know they did in the jacketlike the years though, like the years
he played the three Cups, Imean we won three freaking Cups. You
think he would really recognize that, you know, and quotations, you know,
like I don't know, yeah,I just a little bit more maybe

(38:15):
anything else I thought was great though, And I'm not trying to I'm just
just throwing it out there for discussion. It just it just could be a
simplistic thing. I mean. Butbut then again, you you know,
you look at some like football ringsof honor and it's like a player's name
and number, or like a playeror a coach's name and like the years
that they were there, and almostbut it almost looks like an obituary type

(38:37):
listing, you know. So okay, you know, maybe, but but
here's here's another thing too. Youcan't put dates on there because he's still
with the team. So what areyou gonna do put his first season a
spot? You know? Yeah, yeah, but they're they're also honoring yeah,

(39:00):
but they're also honoring him too forhis time as a coach, like
in all his years with the organizationtoo. So I feel like that that
dates that he's with the organization istough because we don't know how he could
be here for another fifteen years. He could be out tomorrow. Because of
the way the team is playing rightnow. We don't know. I don't
think he's going to be it,but you know I I thought it was

(39:22):
a great ceremony. I thought theydid very well. It was good to
hear him talk, you know,it was you know, he didn't want
to talk at all. Oh yeah, oh like don't could almost tell when
he was sad. He did notwant to talk. He wanted to that
bottle his eye. When that bottlecame out, I was like, whoa,

(39:42):
all right, the man that musthave been heavy as hell too,
so he almost dropped it, almostdropped it. That would have been fitting,
would I would have been totally fittingfor thee And if he dropped the
bottle and shot across the rink andblew up everywhere us over, you know

(40:05):
what, you know what would havebeen on the ice? What? What
would have been great? What? What? What would have been great?
Is if like when it when theDevil's got down like four nothing, they
pan over to the coaches box whereserges and the bottle wine is sitting there
with just a giant straw sticking outof it, and he fucking down that
bottle crazy and you can see starsis really uh disappointed. No, actually

(40:31):
he's not disappointed at all, he'shaving a good old time in retrospect,
the box was closed. They couldhave just like gave him the empty box
that kept the wine in the backand not made Nico carry this like ninety
pound box of bo over to Sorry, I mean, am I the only
one that thinks that? Am Ithe only one one? Grant Marshall said

(40:52):
that Grant Grant Marshall was actually wonderingif the box was empty or had or
had the bottle of wine in itduring during the intermission they had they had
Grant and Colin, you know, two friends in the podcast on their intermission
things. So but yeah, theythey Yeah it was It's had to have
been heavy as hell to carry. But many. Yeah. By the way,

(41:13):
I want to go back to somethingthat Max put in the Super Chat
Super Super Super booo wo yeah, saying that Kevin Ball. Kevin Ball was
quoted as we were being screwed bythese back to pats back to backs,
and I was going to look itup, but I got distracted by the
Bills game. Yeah there's another excuse, guys. No, but it's these

(41:35):
back to backs are in saying theyhave sixteen I know that for a fact
they have sixteen back to back gamesthis year. That is that is a
lot. That's that's a quarter ofyour season is back to backs and sets
it back to the backs in thein the last two weeks of the season,
Pittsburgh Rangers and Ottawa and Nashville justlooking at my schedule right in front

(41:57):
of me, and he was inthe last two weeks of the season.
Yeah, and he said, like, you know, we need to figure
these back to backs out. They'rekilling us. What can somebody looked us
up really quick because I'm what, what team has the second most back to
backs this year? Because I havea feeling it's one huge there's other Now

(42:19):
there's one other team with sixteen aswell. I think there's two. I
think there's with sixteen. Why doesthe Devils always feel like they're in the
top of the league with back tobacks? Like, is there like a
scheduling conflict at the Rock that theycan't do it? They're like, sorry,
we rented it out for bar Mitzvah, we can't we can't schedule a
game. Then, I mean, there are a lot of games with Seaton
Hall and I think you know,Rutgers does play there every now and then,

(42:39):
as well, so there are alot of other things. Sometimes concerts
and tours get booked in there. It can be it can be difficult,
Yeah, it could be difficult, especially just some of these some of these
musicians as well, you know, with the Chiefs and game. Well even
though Taylor Swift be playing at GiantStadium instead of at the at the Rock.

(43:02):
But sometimes a lot of these musicianscome in with musicians come in with
you know, this is the date. That's it. We're not negotiating.
You make it happen and change yourschedule for other stuff later. And yesterday
I believe there was a seat inhall game in the afternoon triple over again.

(43:22):
Oh thank you Mark. Whooo ohthere it is Max Max the Caps
at fifteen. So there you go. Okay, so they got they one
least I knew there was someone elsethat was like right up there with us
and just wait until next was itis next year the Olympics, so that
they're going to be participating in OhI hope not the summer one this year,

(43:45):
right, So that mean the winterones are next year, two years
away. I don't even know.I can't I can't remember if they're the
same year or if they're or ifthere are two year difference anymore. But
just whatever that Olympic season, whetherit's just coming year, two years from
now, just wait, it'll bemore back to backs because that'll that'll be
at least a two week hiatus ifI'm remembering correctly, uh for for the

(44:07):
Olympics. So it's just gonna getit's it could potentially get worse for these
back to backs because they're gonna spushsmush so much more in Max Max,
I think it's c f H cf H A sorry as I know,

(44:30):
Okay, okay, Mark, Mark, unless you're the Cowboys Cowboys hell problem.
Hey hey, speaking of speaking ofthe Cowboys, the Lions are in
more conference championship games than the Cowboyshave been in the two thousands. Love

(44:57):
really hoping for Buffalo Bills Detroit Lionssuper Bowl. That would have been fun
to watch and also the game.Yeah Buffalo million, man Field gold wide
right, wide right, that's somethingthey've never heard before. Yeah, well,
you know what, the league, the league, the league was the

(45:19):
number one fan their league. Theleague is happy that their number one fan
can now go to the conference finalwith them. Oh let's see, so
Jersey sixteen, Washington fifteen, Carolinafourteen, Minnesota fourteen, Ottawa fourteen.
It's way closer than I actually thought. I thought it was gonna be.
Yeah, like the Devil's with sixteen, everybody else with eight. Ottawa sucks,

(45:43):
Minnesota se Ottawa sucks, Minnesota sucks, Carolina is okay, the Caps
are meh. And then there's US. So it seems like there's all the
all the teams that have that havethat many are not doing. Montreal,
Columbus, Ottawa, Minnesota, UShas got two goals against the Rangers.

(46:08):
All right, Well he's good atthat. Love it. A buddy of
mine is out, A buddy mineis out. Has gone to all the
Ranger games out West, has goneto the to the Vegas game they lost
to and I guess they lost tothe Kings. So a buddy mine is
a Ranger fan. Unfortunately he's madea poor life decision. But the Rangers
have lost every game he's gone toout West. And you know that Vegas

(46:34):
game that we're going to be atis will be the second of a back
to back. Oh man, hey, we'll just have to celebrate. We'll
be celebrating. What the what? What the the we'll be celebrating the holiday,
and probably one way or another muchone way or the other will be
celebrating. And somebody's birthday is aroundthat time too, that'll be it'll be

(47:01):
the next day. Yeah, yeah, when we wake up all hot over
and uh on the floor of acasino. Yeah. And and nova because
we walked out of the game becauseat seven to two and the third in
the second period, right and novYeah, I think, uh, the

(47:22):
Patrick wah Lou Lamb's relationship will blowup sooner rather than you don't think that's
gonna be. I don't expect that. Yeah, all the time. I
don't expect that to work very well. But but not for nothing. I
love Patrick. I loved Patrick goalie. I thought he's he's one of the
greatest of all time. He changedthe game as a coach, he's kind

(47:45):
of you know, he he hadhis opportunity. But if Patrick watt here
here's my thing when I saw thathiring, If Patrick Wise your a guy,
then the then then the available poolof coaches is really shallow. Wow,
Anaheim's and thank you Max, becauseMax is just dropping some knowledge.
Right now. Dallas is tied thegame two to two against the Islanders,

(48:08):
and uh super Nova was saying thatwa looks like he's about to blow a
blood vessel. That's so that's alreadygoing. Well, it's already going.
And uh Anaheim is up to nothingon the Rangers and shot clock reads Rangers
fourteen shots, Anaheim five and isthat your circuit in that just gotta make

(48:30):
him count, that's all. Yep, yeah, yep, just like the
opponents's. My favorite thing is goingto be Patrick Wagg and Torts because I
hope, I hope there's an opportunityfor those two to go at each other
because I can guarantee there'll be somefireworks, and I hope it's a long
island and I and I and Ihope that that Larry Brooks is there to

(48:52):
ask them both questions. This isthat'd be good. Switch around the outdoor
game now, no, no,put the fly the Rangers. Yeah,
the Rangers. Yeah, we'll playthe Rangers. It's fine, all right,
Well we should head into the oldfinal thoughts here, wrapping the old

(49:14):
the old podcast. And you know, for me, I'm just I'm looking
at that young d and I knowthey're learning on the fly and it's uh,
well yeah, yeah, right,I didn't even need to do that
there. Uh, that sounds reallybad. I'm looking at the at the

(49:35):
at the youthful defense. I saythat the youthful defenseman. Guys, we
all know it's not easy, andwe know you're being thrown into a situation
that you he said, he said, down Scottie, Down, Scotty.

(50:00):
I know you guys aren't ready quoteunquote yet, and you're you're playing you
know, these these big minutes, twenty plus minutes a game, you're getting
thrown out there against other teams.Aces. We get it, we know.
But just stay the course and justtry to stay in position as best
you can out there. It'll helpout, It'll help out with your depairing,

(50:24):
and it'll help out, you know, cleaning up some of these some
of these mistakes, because listen,Nico dall is pretty damn good v tech
mana check. Even though he wasgiving up big, juicy rebounds, he
only gave up one goal that reallywasn't his fault against the Blue Jackets.
So just work on that defense andtry to clean it up a little bit,
and you know, you get it. You get Timo back in the

(50:45):
swing of things, get Jack backafter the All Star break, and that
offense is gonna start clicking more.So if we can just solidify that defense
a little bit more, I thinkthat would turn this thing around. And
there's still time. There's still plentyof time. Everyone is bunched up there

(51:06):
and that last than that little finalwildcard spot. There's gonna be a lot
of flip flopping in and out allthroughout the rest of the season. One
day you're gonna be in the spot, next day you're gonna be out by
a point back in And that's theway it's gonna go because everyone is so
tight. But if they clean upthat the defense man, this could be

(51:27):
you know, yep, some ofthese games could really really easily swing the
other direction. I'm gonna say.My final thoughts are you're one hundred percent
right that the season is only atthe halfway point, and crazier things happen.
You've seen teams go on a tearand play the second half and get

(51:52):
into the playoffs and are dangerous teambecause they've been fighting for their lives the
entire time on that on that downon the back stretch of the year.
And I kind of hope that Ikind of hope and I kind of see
that this is where the team isgoing. I feel like there's something needs
to change. I don't know whatit is. I said it on Twitter
the other day after that loss.I was pissed off. I woke up

(52:14):
this morning. I was still pissedoff for a little while. But cooler
heads prevail. I don't think there'sgonna be a coaching change, even though
there's a lot of people that woulddisagree with that. I feel like Fitzi's
got a move. Maybe it isa defenseman. Maybe I don't know what
it is, but something needs tochange in the way that this team is
playing, especially on these back tobacks. And if they get everybody healthy,

(52:37):
and if this team can stay healthyfor the second half of this season,
they're gonna be one of the mostdangerous teams in the league because as
other teams are gonna start to dealwith injuries and A's, other teams are
gonna start to deal with wear andtear of the season. We're gonna be
getting guys back that have been restedfor a while. We're gonna be getting
Plot back, We're gonna be gettingJack back. There's gonna be a lot
of guys are gonna be coming backand it's gonna be time to go on

(53:00):
a run. So let's see ifI'm right. But get healthy, boys,
and if you get healthy in time, it's gonna be one hell of
a second half. We have toget our defense right because it's not so
work in your positioning and work onplaying you know, better sound defense.

(53:21):
And if you have to play inthe off wing, get used to it,
because that's what we got right now. And yeah, there's time,
but it's taken away and we aregoing to regret these losses in January if
we don't make the playoffs. There'stime, but you don't have a lot.
Get it right, and you gotto get it right now. Yeah,

(53:45):
And I think fans should calm downa little bit though, because eventually
the players will come back and they'llbe, uh, you know, hopefully
much better down the stretch. Andyou just need to in the playoffs.
You just need to get in theplayoffs and everything will take care of itself
once the season resets for the postseason. I want to thank all those tuning

(54:08):
in. Just remember to join ourcrew dot com. Go to join our
crew dot com for the latest updatesof our outdoor tailgate on February seventeenth at

he might not play probably skills competition. They'll probably have the skills competition.
