Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to Living in Spain Podcasts with David Wright.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Okay, so I've got a very special guest on my
show today. I've got Michael Wyatt. He's an Internet guru,
a website designer, graphic designer. He's built me a great
website for my new motorbike Tools. This is amiamotibike tools
dot com site that I'm starting up this year, and
he's had a few challenges doing to that. So it
wasn't that straightforward, Michael, was it.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
There's thing in whenever you design a website, and it's
called Crockford's law, and it's basically, you have a plan
in place until you actually start putting that plan into action,
the plan will only get you eighty percent of the
way and then some I think will happen and it
(01:01):
won't work for the other twenty percent.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
So you basically need.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
To go back to the beginning, start a different tact
to doing it, and then finding a way to make
it work. And that was the issue that I had
with your site, was the plug in that I thought
would actually work for you was detrimental to you in
the long term. So I had to go back and
(01:25):
find a different plug in that will actually facilitate what
you need, and then I just manipulated the code to
actually extend it a little bit further and give you
exactly what you want. So there's always going to be
hiccups in building a website. It's technology at the end
(01:45):
of the day, and it's forever advancing, so you have
to be on top of your game whenever you're doing it.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yeah, And of course some people just have a one
page website, which is fine for most businesses, but mine
was to be to take bookings as well, so that
made it a little bit more complicated, or think, didn't it.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Yeah, basically we took a hotel booking plug in and
we actually manipulated that code in there to facilitate what
you required it for, which was a tour website.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
So, Michael, a lot of brief people that are moving
to Spain, they are setting up and working here, and
I've done an interview recently with a guy that set
up his own painting business here, and you know, it's
a good idea for It's a must really to have
a website nowadays.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Don't you think.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
It's definitely definitely the way to go. I mean, a
lot of people come over and they think, oh, I'll
just get a Facebook page. But in my mind, why
would you put your business that you worked so hard
at getting it started, putting in the financing to get
it going, looking for the customers Burnie Blair, and putting
(03:00):
that into a third party's program of Mark Zuckerberg and
what happens at the end of the day if he
goes belly up like other social medias have, and you've
invested all your time and energy into your Facebook page,
as suddenly it's gone the next day. Your website should
be your phishing rod, and the pond is your social media.
(03:26):
The more phishing rods you put into that pond, and
the more social media that you have leading back to
your fishing rod, the better you can get. A DIY
do it yourself website design page.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Blah blah blah.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I've been doing this for over forty years, fourteen years
now and I'm still learning. So how can somebody come
in and build their own website from a DIY website
that has no experience on design? Principles of this call
to actions, the heading hierarchy of a website, semantic code,
(04:06):
your metatags, meta descriptions, search engine optimization. These are all
things that should sink really really nicely with your site.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Okay, we'll be back with Michael right after this. Okay,
So on my show today, I've got Michael White. He's
the Internet Guru website builder. So, Michael, there are different
types of websites, so people don't need miners probably quite involved.
There is more basic websites that people can have to
start with, isn't there.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Oh, you can go for a one page website and
it won't cost you very much.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
I mean a website these days.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
The framework is there to build any type of frame,
any type of website, but it's the actual functionality that
you need to go into that website, and that's when
the price starts to go up. If you're just looking
at a one page brochure website, you're looking about two
fifty three hundred pounds to get that up and go in.
(05:09):
It'll all be search engine optimized, it'll have semantic code
in there, and it'll be designed to responsive design as well,
so available on all media platforms.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Michael, I want to say thank you for being a
sponsor of my shows, and I believe you give a
free consultation and a free quote. If people want a
website design, is that right?
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yep, that's fine, it's not an issue.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
If you just go to my website, you can make
an appointment just for a phone chat.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
We could discuss all your requirements.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
I can give you a brief outline of the time
constraints of how long it would actually take, and I
can give you a ballpark figure of what it would be.
If you're happy for me to look more into something,
then I can do that. It's not a problem. It's
all parlor part of me doing the job for you.
And if it costs a little bit more to do it,
(06:06):
then I'll let you know how much more it would
be before we actually proceed, so you have full transparency
on pricing everything brilliant.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
That's great. Okay, well I'll leave.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
If anyone's interested in getting Michael to do on my
website or a quote for a website, then check out
