And a very good afternoon to Sylvia. Join us in
a comment section. Hi John as well in the comment section.
Now the comment section has rebooted. Come and say hi,
Come and keep me company for the next hour here
on ol Maria Radio. Well, just reading up on Facebook.
A laying a new cable all the way from America
to Spain under the sea. Incredible fifty thousand kilometer long
(01:31):
cable being put underneath to say, to connect Spain to
AI intelligent programs and Facebook connections and god knows what else.
So yeah, what do you think of that? Fifty thousand
kilometers fifty thousand kilometers linking USA to Spain with his
underground cable.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
That's crossing a fortune of it.
Speaker 6 (01:55):
You're listening to the Right Way with David Wright in
the afternoon on al Maria Radio seven point five FMS.
The comment section is open, so come say hi to
David right now.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
So nice day out there today and into al Moria
today to see a specialist at A couple of more
marks on my face taken off with laser today. Yeah,
this sun spot marks which, as some of you know
last year were end of last year, I had a
cancer mark on my back which was operated on and
(02:31):
that's taking off. All clear now, all good. But a
couple of marks on my face. You can go and
get these marks or stains what they call them here
in Spain. You can get them done.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
They freeze them off.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
If you're worried about any marks like that, it's worth
going to get them checked out. I had one, as
I say, on my back last year that needed being
cut out. So it's always best to catch these marks
from the sun, your skin, cancer marks, whatever you like
to call them, stop them from growing. And so yeah,
I was in al Maria today, went to see a specialist.
And it's not cheap one hundred euros for twenty minutes
(03:02):
to go and have a consultation, but peace of mind,
so it's got to be done. But yeah, so bit
bruised today, my face, in my hand, a couple of
my hand. But if you get any sunspots on your body,
it's always worth going to see a specialist get them
checked out.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Here.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Even when the sun is not very strong here, you
do need to put cream on. Obviously, I've had it
been told it so many times, but it's difficult to
every time you go out to put sun cream on.
I understand that, but it is incredibly important to make
sure you use the right protection here in Spain. Even
in the winter months, that sun is still strong enough
(03:38):
to cause some damage. And yeah, I think it's probably
a factor of me working outside with a shirt off
for many years here in Spain and also holiday in
a lot in the sunshine even when I was a child,
that you've got to be careful with these skin marks
that could turn into cancer. And if you catch them
early enough, they can be treated. So yeah, it's it's
worth checking out. So go see a specialist if you're
(04:02):
worried about it in these marks and they can catch
it early.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Okay. So we're going to have a bit of Ario.
It's Friday.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
It's Friday and Friday feeling, getting you into the mood
for the weekend.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
The afternoon show.
Speaker 7 (04:20):
What seven light?
Speaker 8 (04:24):
Join in now and join the plane.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
So in my twenty three years living and working here
in Spain, it's been great to see some people go
from making it into a dream to a reality. Lots
of people think about moving to Spain. We've all had
that dream a long time ago, some people, and it's
nice to see people that you know, take action and
they get moving on their dream and then they actually
(04:53):
come here to Spain, look for property, go through the paperwork,
go through all the hurdles that we all go through,
and they move here and finally they're living their dream
life here. And I've met a lot of these people
that have done this and it's really great to see that.
You know, and pretty much everybody goes through the same thing.
You know, it starts off with a dream or wish.
Oh yeah, I wish I could do that, and you think,
(05:13):
well why can't I? You know, you know, it's a
better way of life for is it just for the change.
And then people start taking plans and they're putting down
things on paper and they say, yeah, we could do this,
we could do that, work out the finances, and then
they come here on holiday, they look and I get
to meet a lot of these people along the way,
and as I said, I've seen many of these people
do this. And then finally they look at a place
(05:35):
and they find it and find the place that they
think is right for them, and they buy it, you know,
and some people have set up work here and it
is really great to see these people transition from making
that dream into a reality. And right after this advert
block which I'm going to play right now, I'm going
to be introducing you to somebody that's been through all
that recent the Afternoon Show you're listening to the Right
(05:58):
Way with me David Wright. And on thee now I've
got a special guest. I've got Andy Cook here. Hi, Andy,
can you hear me?
Speaker 7 (06:06):
I guess I go and do it? How are you good?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Good mate?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
So Andy, let's some people may know you from being
on the show before, and you know, I talk about
people moving to Spain and see him coming here and
making plans to move here, and you're one of these people,
and you I think we met. It must have been
a two or three years ago, now is it that
we first met.
Speaker 9 (06:25):
Oh, I think it's a bit longer than that, David,
he would look at it nearly.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Five really five years ago?
Speaker 7 (06:30):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
And back then then, you know, I remember you said
that I wish I could move to Spain, and I
encourage you to do it, go for it that and
you had some problems, but you found a way and
you came originally on a non lucrative visa.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Is that correct, Andy?
Speaker 7 (06:46):
Yeah? Yeah.
Speaker 9 (06:47):
We we arrived in October twenty three on the non
lucrative visa and over the period of time that we're here,
we give us time to sort the house out, and
then about the ten months period we made the application
for autonomo here. You can call it an amendment or
a change of visa to the running a business.
Speaker 7 (07:10):
Yeah, et cetera.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Because, as I said to a lot of people earlier
on that, you know, I've talked, I've done interviews with
Alejandro the British consult on this and a visa expert.
And you know people are saying, oh, you can't work
here in Spine, it's difficult to find work and that,
but you know there is this sort of not a loop,
ob but it is a change that after twelve months
you can make amendments to visas and you can change
your visa, which is what you've done, and you've now
(07:33):
got a working visa here and you set up your
own business. So what is it you're doing, Andy, What
business are you started up here?
Speaker 7 (07:40):
Well?
Speaker 9 (07:41):
We, uh, we do painting, but it's everything's airless spring.
Speaker 7 (07:47):
I've invested a lot.
Speaker 9 (07:48):
Of money on a couple of machines that I have,
once more industrial and one more fine finish. So if
you wanted your doors painted, we'll generally treat those normally,
but we would spray finish them and it gives you
that factory finish. Yeah, the kind of finished that you
go oh wow, no brush.
Speaker 7 (08:08):
Marks, no lumps, no bumps.
Speaker 9 (08:10):
Yeah, it's just yeah, it's beautiful.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
And this is a this is a brand new business
end in it and you you've also had a good
customer a little while ago as well.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Tell us a little bit about that. What did you
do for the customer?
Speaker 7 (08:25):
The first house, we had a house last year.
Speaker 9 (08:29):
We painted tail end in December, and we had all
the outside shutters wooden shutters.
Speaker 7 (08:36):
The house had been lived in for.
Speaker 9 (08:37):
Twenty three years, so you can imagine the condition of
the of the shutters, and well we brought those back
to life. And we've got a fantastic five star review
for my client. So yeah, you can't fault it.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Brilliant, brilliant.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Yeah, yeah, I mean, I remember when you were sitting
thinking about setting up. I said, a lot of the
properties here, as most people know that are painted white.
So's you can't go wrong with white here in Spine
and unless you get that red dusty storm, and even
that is good for you because that dums up some business.
I know when we had that last storm here all
where I live here near the airport, everybody's house was
(09:10):
covering the red dust and sometimes.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
It's hard to wash off.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
So a lot of the people going mad having the
house painted. So that's great opportunity for you, isn't it.
Speaker 7 (09:20):
It is a great opportunity.
Speaker 9 (09:22):
Also, I'm just I'm checking out with one of the
other companies here that supplies the pint and I'll be
looking into getting some sort of high quality tenure guarantee
for the paint job. So that's always an option for
the clients if they don't want to be painting in
the next three years five years, you.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
Can have a system put.
Speaker 9 (09:43):
Onto the house which is primer and then paint and
then you get your guarantee for ten years on that basis.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Yeah, that's amazing.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Yeah, okay, So, and the bit of a tip for
other people that are on the non lux of visa here,
it's not straightforward to change, but it's not that difficult either,
is it.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
What did you think on your experience of changing it over?
Speaker 9 (10:08):
To be honest with you, is the biggest thing for
us was to write out of business plan, something I've
not done in the past, and we were lucky enough
that my son could do it.
Speaker 7 (10:19):
That was the trickiest part.
Speaker 9 (10:21):
Handing it over to salve the attacks illegal that was
the easiest part because you've got guys that know exactly
what they're doing.
Speaker 7 (10:30):
And I see guys, but they were all ladies in
the in the office. I don't mean.
Speaker 9 (10:34):
That badly, but you know, you give it to these
guys and they sort it out because they know what
they're doing.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
Yeah, yeah, no, very good. Always recommend Alejandro's services. And
so Andy, where abouts are you? Tell us roughly where
you are in spin.
Speaker 9 (10:48):
So we're not too far from a little town called
sorbas in between Mahaka and Camposa, and we're in the mountains.
Speaker 7 (10:58):
So it's lovely, it's lovely quiet here.
Speaker 9 (11:01):
We're happy enough to travel to clients because we prefer it.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
In the David right, help and advice. But living and
working in Spain, you're listening to the right way, the
right way with David right.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
You're listening to the right way with me, David right.
And I've got Andy Cook on the phone. He's the
painting expert here now. So Andy, as far as your
transition over from the non lux di visa to the
amendment or the change to the employment visa, you know,
what would you what tips would you give people here
that are thinking they're doing that, or people that are
on the non lux divisa that are thinking about working here,
(11:41):
what sort of tips would you give them?
Speaker 9 (11:44):
Well, I would highly recommend that you don't come over
here without any qualifications backing up what you can do
if you don't have the qualifications, they'll just reject your
application because.
Speaker 7 (11:57):
I also put down plumbing.
Speaker 9 (11:58):
As in for gardening, you know, just order pipes, et cetera,
et cetera. And then they wanted to see my qualifications
and I was like, well, sorry, I don't have any
qualifications for that. Yeah, solely for the painting ales, spray machines,
et cetera, et cetera. And they were like, okay, great,
you're qualified.
Speaker 7 (12:14):
To do that, but we'll remove the plumbing.
Speaker 9 (12:17):
Yeah, I've got to make sure we've got the qualifications
for the work that you're going to come and do
here before you come.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
So Andy, I know that.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
You know, finding work here in Spin was one of
the big big things for you here, you know, and
in the first twelve months you weren't allowed to work here,
so you were busy setting your house up and getting
your feet settled here in Spin.
Speaker 3 (12:41):
But now you're working.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
I'll bet you're pretty placed with that, working for yourself, working,
got your own business up and running.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Britt, you're pretty pleased with that.
Speaker 7 (12:47):
On you. I we are. We are really toughed.
Speaker 9 (12:53):
I've never worked with my wife before, but now we're
a time team together.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a big learning away from relying. You
just go into your job, you do your job.
Speaker 9 (13:04):
But there's a lot more of this, but I find
it a lot more fulfilling. Yeah, turning up and doing
something for eight hours' there's a lot more input and
you've got clients to deal with making sure that they're
satisfied with the results, that they get the price that
they're hearing. We we like to put out high quality
work at a reasonable price.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Yeah, and you're you're living a dream life in Spain
now better than back in the UK.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
It's whin they and wit and rainy.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
You spoke to my brother today and it's not it's
not a very warm mentor out there in the UK.
At the moment, you're you're enjoying life here in sunny Spain.
So Andy, I'll leave a description for you, sort a
description your details in the comments section and it gives
a free estimate. So if you're interested in that, Andy,
then people can contact you and you'll give them a
(13:55):
free quote.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Is that great?
Speaker 7 (13:57):
Yes? Of course.
Speaker 9 (13:57):
You can email sul Spree Painters at gmail dot com
or they can give us a call on sixty one
three four two one nine three two and we can
pop in and give them all obligation.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
Great, it's nice to be watching your journey here from
the start of your dream life here to Spain and
watching you actually go through all and now you're living
the dreaming mate, So congratulations on it, and Dean, thanks

Speaker 7 (14:22):

So yeah, there's lots of new changes to the visa
going on almost on a weekly basis now, little amendments,
little bits and pieces added to these visas and there
(14:46):
are quite a lot of options open to people that
are thinking about moving to Spain now. And just a
couple of weeks God did a special interview with the
Honorary British Concert for Almorea where we talked about the
visas and the options that are open to peoples thinking
about moving to Spain now. Some new options there, some
good ideas and if you want to go and see
that video, it's over on my information page. That's davidwryot
(15:08):
online dot Com. Okay, so it's Friday, It's time for
Air financial Tip from Air Pensions and financial expert Josh Williams.
Hi Josh, and welcome to the show.
Speaker 8 (15:21):
Hi David, thanks for having me on the show again.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
So welcome to the show Josh. And now what's the
tip for us this week? Mate?
Speaker 10 (15:29):
Yeah, back again for the Friday financial tip for your listeners.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
This week I want to talk about the new UK.
Speaker 10 (15:35):
Domicile or non domicile rules affecting pensions and inheritance tax
planning for British expats. New rules come into effect in April.
They state that BRIT's living abroad who claim domicile in
another country will have to be a foreign resident for
a minimum of ten years before the non UK assets
(15:56):
are outside the scope of the UK tax, but crucial
UK based assets will remain within the UK scope. Historically,
a person's domicile has been the main factor to deciding
inheritance tax obligations for British nationals. Many expats are found
despite decades abroad, they were still deemed UK domiciled, exposing
(16:19):
their global assets to UK inheritance tax. The new rules
replace the concepts of domicile with long term residents, meaning
if you've lived outside the UK for at least ten
of the previous twenty years, you will now be classed
as a non UK lifetime resident.
Speaker 4 (16:37):
This sounds a little bit complicated, Josh, but how does
it really affect us Brits Here in Spain?
Speaker 10 (16:42):
This means David, that if you're away from the UK
for ten or more years than assets held outside the
UK will not be liable for UK inheritance tax. However,
crucially assets held in the UK, including savings, investments, pensions
now and also property can be liable to up to
(17:04):
forty percent UK tax.
Speaker 8 (17:07):
Okay, So whether you're a.
Speaker 10 (17:09):
Current expat or thinking to relocate, you may want to
consider moving UK assets outside the country to minimize your
family's inheritance tax bill and optimize your overall tax position.
A financial planner can help ensure you remain tax efficient
under the new rules.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Now, Josh, you can give free help and advice. How
can you help us here?
Speaker 10 (17:31):
We can help assess your situation, develop a plan that
keeps your world wide assets outside the scope of the
UK tax system whilst legally minimizing tax in Spain too.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
That's great we want to pay as little tax as
possible here in Spain. So, Josh, how do people help
the listeners get in touch with you to book a
free consultation.
Speaker 10 (17:53):
Mate to book your free no obligation consultation, see our
contact details in the comments section, or just search online
ambient wealth.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
That's great, I'll post that in the comments section now.
And thanks for join us today for a tax tip, Josh,
and have a great weekend.
Speaker 8 (18:11):
Thanks for having me on the show again.
Speaker 10 (18:13):
Have a great weekend all and see you again next
week for another Friday financial tip.
Speaker 7 (18:22):
