(00:00):
No, we just went life.Oh you're peaking again. Sorry, don't
worry, I just turned you downoff down too. We're finally back after
technical issue, after technical issue, and converting the show from a pre recorded
podcast into a live stream that youguys can of course follow here at Twitch
(00:23):
or if you're watching our archive afterwell, we'll have the link to Twitch
in there. But of course stillgive us a follow if you're liking the
content. I mean, we havepeople that keep coming back, so you
might as well keep watching us.But this week we're covering our we're looking
back at our games down at LasVegas when we went down to LVO.
(00:46):
Of course it was hosted by byFLG. There was a lot that went
on down there. We got togo through and we had a blast.
There was a ton of stuff thatwent down. We're actually just putting up
some footage of that here. Wecaught a ton of footage while we were
down there, which is fantastic.Yeah. I spent pretty much almost all
(01:10):
three days walking through the event.Massive event took me just this r but
as I took for this was probablya good hour of walking around. Now
before we get further, we mightas well introduce ourselves. Of course I'm
your host Isaiah, and that isdragon Master Jacob. I'm pointing to my
(01:34):
right, but of course that's left, but that's just because of camera replacement.
So el Via, let's get intothis. Because Elvio was a blast
back in January. It was somuch fun. Oh yeah, I mean
it was a massive event. TheFLG did. The Warhammer community was massive.
(01:56):
They had well Warham all different gamesfrom war Hammer. They had Legion
Armada X Wing Assault. They evenhad games that I've never seen. And
of course they were showing off theirown game, which we will get to
later. So kind of a breakdownof well, okay, so we're gonna
respond to chat real quick. Takea couple of minutes for that. We're
(02:19):
actually Armada players. We went downthere to play Star Wars arm I went
down to play Star Wars Armada. It was the world's qualifier. So the
Warhammer stuff we got the footage ofit looks amazing. I could never get
into it. I like my walletyet, me too, and I will
not go into debt to serve toserve the imperium of man. But regardless,
(02:44):
the Warhammer community had five hundred tablesin the main room, which is
insane, Like this is by farthe largest gaming event that I've been to,
and so seeing everything that was downthere all also just walking through seeing
the different models that they had.I'm actually gonna pull back the footage a
(03:05):
little bit because you had one wherethe displays that they did are just fantastic.
Oh yeah, they have some amazingdisplays that these people build themselves and
it is phenomenal work. I amstill trying to learn painting. Isaiah knows
more about it than I do,but I'm not really a painter. But
(03:27):
the models look now. Moving alittle bit from just the general event.
So they had three rooms break whichwas they had the Warhammer room, which
had the main Warhammer stuff. Theyhad a secondary room which kind of had
the Star Wars stuff, the Armadastuff, and well the Star Wars Armada
(03:50):
is in with the Star Wars stuffmostly Legion Armada. And then a few
other different games, mostly small likethree played on a three by three table,
which was weird. And then ofcourse they had like two other halls
with like Age of Sigma and allthese events going on at once, which
was amazing. Not to mention theywere super great when we went down letting
(04:11):
us get footage while we're in there, So of course we got to thank
FLG for that FLG they put ona mat. Now, going into this,
we're just covering the Warhammer stuff justbriefly before we get into the true
Armada stuff, because we want tounderstand kind of where we're before going into
this. The event. Apparently theWarhammer community had a little bit of an
upset with a Necrons, like alot of people got mad about it.
(04:39):
As we were signing up for registration, we were talking with some Warhammer guys
down there. I don't think Iever got their name or anything like that.
We're just in line with them. They let us know that there was
a Necron's nerve and that people werereturning their tickets and removing themselves from the
event. Now, I'm just bringingthis up because I like the irony of
the fact that that list still wonevent. Oh yeah, So the irony
(05:02):
of that whole thing is just notlost on me. It's fantastic, and
I laughed through the entire thing.Moving on a little bit to the Star
Wars stuff. In fact, let'sclear this off, we're still new to
this whole thing, so I'm justgetting the other overlay up. The tables
for Legion were also great. Ohyeah, I love the setup with the
(05:26):
tables because they had different different planetsettings, not just different maps, but
they had completely different settings, likethey had Tattoo one. They even had
stuff from the Ahsoka. Like. There was so much going on and so
many different tables that they built thatit was fantastic. I kind of fell
(05:49):
off from Legion, which is whywe didn't participate in the Legion event because
it was too like we're too farbehind. There's so much that went on
with that. We kind of justgot left out for releases. A.
Jake was never heavily into it.I struggled because, like I said,
I'm not very good at it.Man. I wouldn't even blame the fact
(06:14):
that you can't paint on it,because I would I painted a lot of
your stuff. I blame the factthat you can't roll a die to save
your life. Hey, that's whyI three D printed a dice tower.
No, no, no, Likewhen we're talking about his unluckiness, Jake
over here can roll five dice thatall have a seven and eight chance of
(06:38):
succeeding and blank a lot and We'relike, that shouldn't be possible. Also,
these atsds man, if you're justlistening to the audio show, which
is which will be going up afterthis, there's there's a little bit of
video going with it. We're showingsome background to the stuff. Different paint
(06:59):
jobs, things like that getting intothose atsts were all done by the same
person. I know he does doesan amazing job. I didn't really get
to talk to him, he wasin the middle of playing a game,
but it was phenomenal to see thework they because he had him for different
I want to say, he didit for the different maps that were at
(07:21):
the event. H So, asfar as the events went though, they
were fantastic. I had a blastdown there. It was on another level.
I went down, like I said, I went down to play Armada,
which is very much what we're goingto be kind of covering here today.
Because the Armada event was so differentand there were some things that went
(07:43):
into it. We have some interviewpeople who attended the event. We have
one from Jacob Thompson, who,of course if you're in the Armada community
within Utah, he runs our tournamentstuff. I think he's also the host
of the Armada Discord. He isour too, and the fantastic guy.
We also managed to get an interviewwith the actual tournament organizer that came out
(08:07):
from Texas for FLG, so wedefinitely have some stuff going on for that.
All right, I'm just turning amonitor so Jacob can actually see some
of the footage. I just realizedI didn't do that earlier and we should
have man troubles when you're going live, right, But back to just kind
(08:28):
of the Armada event, we hadeverything get shown. So when I say
everything getting shown down there, almostevery ship was represented, which is fantastic
and definitely speaks to the to thelack not lack of a meta, but
the balancing of the meta that anybodycould really bring anything. Yeah, I
(08:52):
mean what it was even better isI mean I don't play our model very
much. I'm still trying to getinto it. But the TL that was
there, his favorite ship is theSSD, and I was I loved some
(09:13):
of the designs that they did forthe SSD. One guy, I wish
we would have gotten a picture ofit. He put LEDs into his ship,
which was phenomenal, and it waseven better that the SSD won so
I've actually got pictures of it,not not to show unfortunately, you can
see here we've got some of theamount of stuff going on. First of
(09:33):
all, the casual event was fantastic. I will agree with you the Separatists
are the best faction. I actuallymoved to be playing the Separatists in this
event. I was playing the Rebels. I didn't pick up Separatists until after.
And that's because when I was goinginto this event, I was playing
the Rebels. I had. Myfavorite ship with the Rebels was the Providence.
(09:54):
I played the Providence at a previousevent after running a home one mon
Karen list and then afterwards bringing ina moncreen, this time bringing a Monkaren
and a Providence for the Rebels.I was really disappointed with the Separatists and
and we're going to cover some statsreal quick that went this and why I'm
disappointed in them. So I've gotthe stats here for it was that they
(10:18):
are fantastic. So I got thestats here on my phone. Sorry I
don't have have them just a postup. I put them in the Armada
discord for just the general ships thatwe're seeing and how many we saw.
So my disappointment comes in the Empire. First, the most seen ship was
(10:39):
the Gazanti that I'm like your floatellwas the most scene ship. They had
nine isds ten sorry ten id's twoID one, seven D twos and a
kuwa. We had two SSDs,which is great to see. I love
seeing SSDs. They had a goodslew of They were pretty verstile. Like
(11:05):
we said, we saw every singleship except for I think a hard cell
in the rebels. Uh. Well, in the Republic, sorry, that's
the next one that I have here, they had seven, uh seven,
nine venitors. Sorry, I'm mything is out of whack. They had
nine venitors, nine ors, anduh four victory or Victory star destroyers,
(11:31):
which means I'm wondering if we're goingto see a shift where people are just
getting used to the new meta ofthese the the victory in the Republic is
but definitely a different beast altogether. And in the Separatists, and this is
why I was disappointed in the Separatists. Okay, the the Separatists brought two
(11:56):
three recusants, free munificence, fourhard cells, and two Gazanties. No
providence. The rebels brought more providencesthan you guys, I'm gonna let that
sink in. The rebels brought moreprovidences than the Separatists, which I mean,
then again, your list was legitimatelycalled. They decided to name it.
(12:22):
I'd like to speak. Okay,Yeah, as soon as we're done
with the stats, we're gonna begoing into how my games went and and
really like how the tournament went, because playing those lists was fantastic and hilarious.
My first game, well not firstgame, sorry. Back to the
stats, we had twelve g Rseventy five's in the rebellion, one Hammerhead,
(12:43):
one star Hawk, three providences, two MC eighties, the Liberty class
MC eighties specifically one MC eighty command, a bunch of MC seventy five.
I've cruisers. We had torpedo cruisers, not we had some torpedo cruisers,
(13:05):
but mostly of the MC seventy fivesthey were ordnance Ordnance MC seventy fives,
So the end the ordnance carriers cameto play, and in fact I played
against one of them. I playedagainst a profundity in my first match.
As far as aces, everyone reallybrought a diverse group of aces and their
fighters, except for the Separatists andthe republic the Republic brought some aces.
(13:30):
They brought kit Fisto and that wasit. Kit Fisto gone checking. Yeah,
it was kit Fisto and Anakin andone axe. They had three people
who ran aces, one of each, one of each between the three the
Separatist I'm also disappointing you did notbring any aces, and separatists have some
(13:52):
of the best aces. Come on, guys, h wat tambor is on
another level. Well, it didn'tseem like this. They they didn't really
focus on fighters as much of her. Yeah, but separatists have great fighters.
Their fighter balls are amazing. Yeah. But when I every time I
(14:13):
would go because I walked through andI'd stop by and see how things are
going, because I was trying towalk through the whole event. But I
never saw a lot of fighters onthe tables. There was there was a
couple of matches that there's some peoplethat ran a lot of fighters, But
I did not see a lot offighters on it on the table when I
(14:39):
when you were playing, I don'tthink you played against a ton of fighter
squadrons. One of my tables wasa fighter ball. I think I lost
that one eighth. Yeah, Ilost to an Imperial Fighter ball and then
I stomped in it. Okay,so what I was running is I was
running MC eighty mon Karen Liberty Classwith LTT's XI seven's s W fives and
(15:09):
gunnery teams and then a fully kittin Providence. We're talking flight controllers,
We're talking I used every upgrade thatI could get on that thing and then
stuck Tearsta on it just to makeit harder to kill. And it served
me well. My fleet served mewell in the first one. The first
(15:35):
uh, the for the first round. The first round, man, oh,
that that one was. The firstround was a lot of mismatches.
We had like eight people get likeso many people just got stomped, and
(16:00):
I can't even be mad. Iwas like, like people got ten one,
like half of the people there. And we were a thirty thirty two
men tournament. Like half of thegames ended in somebody getting murdered. And
that that was just the first round. Good news is it got better after
(16:21):
that? Yes, So I'm actuallypulling that up right now. Let me
see, I'm gonna add something justhere real quick. So you guys,
we're doing this completely impromptu. I'mjust gonna display the UH grab a quick
(16:41):
window capture. Uh of this allright, we're doing this on the flight.
I didn't actually mean to pull thisup, but that was the placements
for the UH for the first round? Was that first round? Now that
was four sorry, this was thefirst round. People got destroyed in this
(17:04):
first round, like everyone you fightingto a five to six for me was
impressive. The fleet point total atthe event was standard fleet totals. Wow.
Sorry, I gotta keep that up. I'm gonna have to move that
(17:25):
to another screen. I'm forgetting.I'm doing good. Thing got three screen.
It was standard tournament, so itwas four hundred fleet points. Yeah,
standard for any tournament is four hundredwith one two fighters. Because this
was a qualifier for the world,it had to go based on standard tournament
(17:48):
stuff. Yeah. People got stomped. The SSD stomped people. Uh,
we stomped people. I fought toa five six. I fought to stand
still the first round. It wasin a five six. The first round
had a UH. I was upagainst a profundity with a hammerhead in it,
(18:11):
and he had a CR ninety Band a a ARE ninety b and
a flotilla and my fighters just kindof held up his fighters. I ran
over the c R ninety with myprovidence, because how else do you play
(18:32):
Armada except for as battering ram.Exactly I shot it. I shot it
with the providence out out the frontand and then shot the MC seventy five
out the side. And then,uh, it was that one life,
and I'm like, I kind ofwant to kill it. I have the
movement. Why not I have themovement. Getting stuck at speed one doesn't
(18:55):
put me in danger. Run itover, And so I ran it over.
I left my mon Karen did I, which is why I only went
five. Why I lost it isbecause I left my mom Karen did I
and couldn't take out the providence.I mean that the providence, the the
It was just a great game roundone for me, but I afterwards I
(19:18):
found out about the people getting nineto two, the people getting five six,
I mean, the people getting eightthree, the people getting ten to
one. This was a blood bathin the first game. Now round two
it settled. This is the onewhere I went up against an Imperial Fighter
fighter list, like a proper Imperialfighter list, and barely scraped out alive.
(19:44):
Like I lost all my fighters.I think my Providence by a way,
I think I only lost the Providenceonce this entire tournament. I lost
the MCA. I lost the monKaren almost every time, like she's talked
to the manager and then screamed off. But this was another one where I'm
(20:07):
like, dang, this is havinga huge sway. These games are not.
We had more five ones on thisone, and we had more four
to sevens, but that both gamesso far were just ruthless, and so
it's like, yeah, no goinginto the third one. App we split
(20:29):
for lunch after that third one iswhen we came in, I was up
against a star Hawk Providence Rebel ProvidenceRebel Providence differences. I went with Karen,
he went with the Hawk, andI asked to speak to his manager,
and I essentially parked that MC eightright in front of the Hawk.
Having six defense tokens doesn't save youwhen you've got a Karen bearing down on
(20:52):
you, because you only get tospend one. Hence the reason why they
said his fleet is called I'd liketo speak to your manager, because what
I would do is I would parkmy MC employee. I parked my every
day. I parked my mon Karenin front of their largest ship and held
it there, gunning it down.I'd like to speak to the manager.
(21:18):
Fourth round, fourth round, onday one. This was the bloodbath that
I caused. I want up againstan imperial list. Uh and he got
away with only a gazantes gazanties.I burned down an ISD, I burned
down a quasar, and I burneddown in our quintin. I one shot
the ar quintin the mon Karen oneshot in our quintin it. I'd like
(21:41):
to speak to your manager. Whenthe manager showed up, he responded with
I'd like to speak with your manager. We're gonna throw this off a little
bit because I'm just gonna get thisset up because to look at some of
the lists. So the top eightwas interesting. So like we said the
SSD, an SSD won this.It was an SSD PT. I've actually
(22:04):
got the list here. I justpulled it off so that we could take
a look at it all. ThisRepublic on t four like always, dude
just ran this tournament. Oh yeahyeah, Like okay, I can't say
he ran this tournament. I'd belying if I said this SSD ran the
tournament. Because what happened with thisssd is. He took eighth place,
(22:27):
and this was he ended up winningthe overall the what is it called super
the super Invite. So what happenedhow this was structured is day one was
a casual event. Day two wasthe start of the event. It's where
(22:48):
we all played the major games. And then day three was two pods of
eight top eight bought, and thenthe next eight fight top eight fighting for
a super invite which would cover allfences two worlds. He raped in there
in eighth place, and then onewon the entire event on tournament points.
(23:12):
He lost a game in Dade, but he's still won over somebody who went
three out, which is fantastic, which is interesting. I love to see
that happen. Low scoring games man. That's why I play the way that
I am the way I do.I will either win big or I will
lose big. But somebody is winningbig, like I learned that pretty early
(23:37):
on with Armada tournaments and how they'restructured. Because of the tournament point structure,
you want as much destruction as youcan. A zero zero or a
five to six will not serve youas well as a ten to one ten
one serves you really well. Butif you lose your you're getting the one.
(24:00):
The five six actually is a reallygood fight. Sorry I misspoke there.
Getting the five to six matters awhole lot because those tournament points determine
your placement. So even if youfight to a five to six, you
still get five points to your opponent, so you'll be put ahead of anybody
who went three, or you've gotmore points than somebody else come the end,
(24:25):
if you like, if you fightto a five six and people are
getting uh, ten one, they'reat it or eight three and most people
are getting eight three or seven fordand then you just slam into somebody in
ten to one them at some pointyou're gonna place pretty high in the event.
Some of the other lists uh baylOrghana got got some love with Venitor.
(24:48):
There was a ton of them andit was fantastic. Now, the
event itself was a blast, andlike I said, we got some interviews
from some people from the event.Jacob Thompson being our to, we got
his permission to interview for this.Got it right here, okay, so
what do you want to ask me? So you're coming down from Utah,
(25:14):
I got to make sure the audienceit is working, it's just not monitoring
for us. Uh yeah, okay, So what do you want to ask
me? So you're coming down fromUtah? What kind of what kind of
difference have you seen in the playerbase and everything coming down to Vegas?
(25:36):
Okay? Helping me with SID,I'm just getting situated. The first time
I came here there were eighty players, The second time they're forty at US
thirty something. Year there's twenty something. So we were afraid that it was
going that it's playing for you.So what do you want to ask it?
You can see it. So you'recoming down from Utah, what kind
(25:57):
of blow? What? What kindof do have you've seen in the player
base and everything coming down to Vegas? Okay? So I've been coming here
for four or five years. Thefirst time I came here, there were
eighty players. Oh, second timethey're forty or thirty something. Last year
there's twenty something. So we wereafraid that it wasn't going to happen this
(26:18):
year. Yeah, And I wasafraid because the LBO Armada ticket was it
on lbo's website, oh to startthis summer, So we were emailing people,
is it going to happen? Yeah, somehow they decided to make it
happen, and so on their part, I don't think it was the best
thing to not advertise right on theday because usually people are waiting for it.
(26:42):
Yeah, so I got my ticketlate when I found out they were
doing it. Thankfully. There's thirtytwo people here, which is more than
last year, so that should tellthem it's a strong community that wants to
support it, and there's a lotof really good players here. Yeah,
I mean coming back. Yeah,I'm gonna pause the interview there. There's
(27:03):
a reason for that. So whatwho was talking about? FLG had a
huge problem with the Armada tournament cominginto this, So tickets for all the
other events went live in summer,I think, like June or July.
That's what I think. That's whathe said is that they were most tickets
for LVO went live in June orJuly. This was a big event that
(27:26):
was planned forever. Tickets did notgo live with every other ticket not for
Armada. It was Armada didn't golive until December. November or December,
I can't remember what she was eitherlate November or December. And when that
happened is when people were finally gettingit. I think it was because it
had been shrinking, you know,he mentioned it. It was eighty people
(27:48):
before, then it was forty, then it was twenty an hour, back
to thirty two. But of courseit was essentially eighty people. COVID hit.
Nobody showed up to these tournaments, and so they're worried nobody would And
then this event sold out. Wehad two people on the wait list and
we didn't have tickets live nearly aslong as anybody else. Yeah, and
(28:11):
so this we're hoping that next yearthat they'll be able to increase the amount
of tables for Formada. It wasit is growing back again, and that
especially now that they're starting to domore events and people are starting to becoming
(28:36):
starting to come back after covid it, this event should be able to start
becoming a lot larger and they shouldbe able to get back up to close
to eighty forty eighty. Like Isaid, this was a big event,
and I think the biggest issue ispeople did not have time to plan it.
Like I mean, we were fortunatebecause most of the people that were
(29:00):
there were from Utah. We're rightnext to Nevada. We can just drive
right over. Yeah, we drovelike six hours, eight hours, six
hours. Yeah, it took sixhours, ran from Salt Lake down to
uh Vegas. Because there's some peoplethat that if they had to come from
Texas or from I think there wassomebody from Colorado, right, Yeah,
(29:22):
we had Colorado people, we hadTexas and it a guy I think the
guy from Kentucky showed up. Yeah, and to plant it was for them
to plan it on such short noticeis really impressive because I mean it was
they probably got their tickets somewhere sometimein late November December. They had a
(29:44):
month to plan it with the holidayto show up in January here uh talk.
When we came in, there werepeople that couldn't get a ticket,
Yeah, because they cut it offin December. They cut off the sales
to make space for other games ifthey were selling more and there's a bigger
(30:07):
weight list for others. So there'sa cutoff. And so thirty two players
and then people showed up and theywere on a wait list, which was
good because someone didn't show up.It's good to put some plug someone in.
So there were no buys. Yeah, because a bye, you sit
around for two hours doing nothing. You get eight three, but you don't
get to play. Yeah, whatabout the guys coming down from Utah?
(30:30):
Everybody coming down from Utah? Seeingeverybody here is must be great. It
was good. There were seven peoplefrom Utah in which I was excited to
see. I thought there might beone more, but I didn't figure on
this guy named Isaiah. He surprisedme by showing up. I looked at
the tea four and saw Isaiah's nameis Isaiah. Yes, So it was
(30:52):
exciting to see the Armaudel crew out, the Utah or Model crew out,
and we've done really well. Michaelfrom Utah, it's also Indiana, but
we adopt him anyway. He's inthe top cut of eight. He already
has an invite, but the superinvites online, so he's playing for that,
which is traveling accommodations yep. Andthen the second tier. There were
(31:19):
enough people in the top tier tournamentthat already had invites that of the four
invites, the super invite and threebasic invites, there are enough people and
who already have invites that one invitepassed down and they started a second tier
tournament. And that's what I'm fightingfor. That's good. This isn't utah.
(31:40):
Yeah, and how have your gamesbeen going? Yes, but anyway
great. I had a really greatgame against Jackson from Sacramento and that was
a loss eight three loss in mylast round. So that was a tight
mail writer and it goes over werein my mind at night and haunts my
(32:01):
times. And the other three gamesI lost one that was seven fold.
It was another solid game against Luke, and then I had two and they
were they were great, And todayI have a seven four round. So
yeah, I've seen a great varietyof ships, which is amazing to see
(32:21):
here. Yeah, to see anSSD on the table too. There were
revel providences yesterday there were I thinkeverything was represented. I don't know about
hammerheads. I saw Hammerhead, didyou My first round I went up against
a Hammerhead in a profinity excellent, excellent. So we've seemed just about anything.
The only thing I haven't seen ourpotatoes. Okay. I knew that
(32:45):
my friend Nick had a guppy.Oh he had a guppy and sulf gut
Haven with a big spall. Ohokay, and it was solid. He
did well. We're seeing just everythingdown here, which is great. Yeah,
yeah, it's it's super fun tosee so many diverse lists on the
table and good players knowing how torun them. It's very excited. Yeah,
(33:10):
take to your competition and creative lists, and I have to take out
my phone and say, can Itake a picture of your list? That's
great, that's yeah, let meget that because that's inspiring. So yeah,
it's good. Oh, thank youfor your time. You've bet you
bet. Jacob does some great workwith the Armada community, especially with us.
(33:32):
He's he's just a great guy.It so well with the He's very
knowledgeable about the game. It hasa lot of fun. He's preparing he's
going to be competing in the LastChance qualifier for the Worlds. But there
is he talked about it, theverse, not versatility, the the variety
(33:53):
of lists that we saw. Yeah, so many lists of people. And
the best part is is the factthat some of these lists, they could
be in in Worlds and played beforein Worlds, but everybody plays their list
(34:14):
differently, use the same ships, the same add ons, but they play
them different. Which is one ofthe best parts about Armada is the fact
that it can change. I mean, you could have two lists that are
completely identical and play complete just becauseof your upgrades. So you could be
like, we're both playing as D'swell mine's a carrier, mine's gunship.
(34:37):
Well, even even if they hadthe same upgrades, the players think differently.
The aggressiveness they can their strategies arecomplete. Yeah, and that's the
thing. The game relies so heavilyon strategy, which is very nice and
I love our Mada for that. We've got one more interview that was with
Ian Ellison. He was the tournamentorganizer. He put this whole thing together
(35:00):
for us. He ran the eventsand did a lot of work this weekend.
He was the TEO that was overthe Armada event. All right,
so we're just wrapping up the lastnight of the Armada of THEO. Yep,
it looked like there was a goodshowing. Everybody showed up. Well,
we had a bunch of people showup and it was Yeah, the
(35:22):
hit sold out, which was surprising. That was that was fantastic, especially
it didn't look like it was goingto sell out right when they started posting
it. That seemed like most ofthe community was like, I can't travel
around January. That's too hard. And then yeah, I pinned the event
organizer one day I'm like, so, how our ticket sales going. He's
(35:43):
like, you're sold out and Iwas like, WHOA fantastic So yeah,
we hit our player capa thirty two. Then we had two people that came
up, walked on and said, hey, if you got an open spot,
give me an open let me know. And we were able. We
had one not show, which isabout average for tournament this size, and
we got that. We were ableto get the walk on in the other
(36:05):
guy's place. So yeah, we'refull thirty two, which is great for
this kind of event, especially becauseyou know next year they might be able
to expand it. Yeah, I'mhoping that next year we can go up
to about forty eight. In Armada, I see that the tournament communities there
we had forty five. In Texasthere were forty five. In Germany there
(36:29):
were technically forty six. And theone in Texas was run by FLG,
the same company, and they closedticket sales early because they literally ran out
of space. Oh wow, there'smore than enough space here. I mean
there were a couple of Legion tablessaw that saw no action, and then
(36:51):
there was room behind us for anotherthree sets of tables of four. So
that's twelve plus the yeah we canget that's always good for organizing future events
as well. Just as before wego on and he talked about this,
there were empty tables. I mean, they could have expanded it and they
(37:13):
they didn't, And that's I thinkthey did that because when they didn't release
the tickets till so late. Yeah. So honestly, as much as I
love FLG for putting this on,I do have to call them out for
the fact that they really did notgive Armada the shape that have had hoping
that next year, release the ticketson time, make sure the teos caught
(37:38):
up way ahead of time, andgive us the table space. I think
it was. I think the tablesbehind us were supposed to be x way.
No x Wing Assault was in frontof you. No x not x
wing FLT change, it's just xWing. You're thinking of Imperial Assault probably,
(37:59):
and it might have been Imperial Assaultthat was supposed to be on one
of them was supposed to be behindus, and those tables were empty,
which means they didn't get the playercounts that they needed. And you had
an event that sold out and waslate. I mean the Legion event,
there was a lot of tables forLegion, but they did not use all
(38:20):
of the tables. There was severalthat like never saw play. They had
the whole thing set up and everything, and people maybe use them for practice
matches for fun scrimmish games. Butthat Yeah, it was a kind of
disappointing. Easy question. How haveyou been hosting the LVO for US?
(38:40):
Oh, I haven't. I thinkthis FLG has been doing LVO for five
years now. I can't. I'myeah, google that one. I did
look that one up. They hadbeen doing LVO for Armadas since twenty eighteen,
(39:01):
so it's been around for a bit. Like you said, it's his
first year hosting. Essentially, theycalled him up and said, he you
want to do this, Well, this is my first year Vegas. He's
he usually hosts in Texas. Yeah, he's the he runs the large events
down for the Lone Star. Iwas. I was pulled in as the
judge when as the t O forAmada, when uh, the one that
(39:23):
was scheduled to here. There weretwo that were going to be here and
both of them you had to bowout for different reasons. I've been judging
for FLG for three years now,and I normally host the Texas One Bay
ls Lone Star Open. So Igot a call just after Thanksgiving like Hey,
(39:45):
can you come judge this? AndI was like, yes, I
love my community and that's why Ido this. Yeah, that's great there
you were able to come out forthat. And he comments about the variety
of lists that we saw today orthis this weekend. So this weekend I
saw Ratus for the first time ina long time in a tournament setting.
(40:10):
We saw a pet SSD. Uhif you check the standings, pet SSD
one. So they won the inviteto Worlds with travel and accommodation. That's
amazing. So we had every game. We had SSD, we had MSU,
we had Sloan one, thirty four, we had TF bought in Separate,
(40:32):
Separatist, chronically underrepresentative, but wehad them all. So there was
like one or two mirror matches, which in thirty two players is is great
that there was nobody just like parton Heart, that's really good at the
variety of everything. It's a goodshowing for it was a good showing,
(40:53):
and I think that speaks to themeta, not the necessarily the meta,
the balance inside Armada itself. Yes, that there is no have to meta.
There are stronger lists for sure, but you can show up with what
you want to and still play. That's great. Yeah, and he talked
about this. That is the strengthof our mada is how well balanced this
(41:15):
game is. This game is sowell balanced, like every ship has a
place. It depends on your strategy. But I don't think there's any ship
that doesn't have a place except foryou, Gladiator. I hate you.
I hope to never see you again. Screw off with your four black dice.
(41:37):
I like it, but that's justbecause I don't like against it.
I've played against too many demolishers, played against a coglist and wasn't happy.
On a lighter note, what wasthe strangest ruling you had to make?
Uh? Well, uh, notexactly strangers, Okay. I will say
(41:59):
that there was one player early onthat when they submitted their list, there
were two people who submitted a listthat weren't legal, and one of them
that was submitted that wasn't legal. It's it's it's weird to have to rule
before the game starts, so tojust find a chance to make a judge
(42:21):
call before somebody even shows up tothe venue, I guess would be the
weirdest one that I had to makeoutside of that. Actually here at the
venue, trying to think that allthe things that I was called for,
Oh, explaining how ignition tokens moveit if they're on a rock or something
(42:46):
that moves, that one's fun.So that one seems very niche. It
is. It is extremely niche.Yeah, Ezra Bridger can move a rock
that has an ignition token on itoutside of the arc of the ship,
so it can no longer see thatis a weird one. And what he's
(43:07):
getting at there, somebody who musthave been running Ezra. If you place
your ignition token on an obstacle andEzra moves that obstacle out of your ignition
attack arc, you can no longeruse that initiative ignition attack, which,
honestly, I'm I'm kind of laughingthat it actually came up in an event.
(43:31):
It is so weird because that meanssomebody who is running Ezra. Yeah,
somebody who is running Ezra had towind up either against a fat tee
on the I think it's called thefat tea on the Venitor or an onager.
(43:54):
It's a great use. It's agreat use. And what's the hardest
one, the hardest ruling like eightydegrees that I won't call it a hard
ruling per se. I always thinkthat the hardest ruling is when I have
to come in and make the callwhether or not something is in the slimmest
(44:15):
of arms. The details of makingsure I don't move something, I don't
impart any error to it, thoseare the hard calls. Other than that
taking a couple of players aside andissuing warnings, those I would consider art
(44:35):
because at the end of the day, I want everybody to have fun,
and I can't imagine you're having funwhile the judge is telling you please stop
doing what you're doing. Yeah, that's always difficult. Yeah, a little
bit on what he talked about withthe slimmest of margins. Yeah, and
about moving stuff. These ships areso light on their stands. One guy
(44:58):
down there actually gave me something Ineed to take into account with my ships.
Bluing washers on your bases, likeon the big ship bases underneath where
they have like a bunch of emptyplastic space. Take some washers to gorilla
glue them on or super glue themon, and what they do is they
(45:21):
add weight to the ships though they'renot so they're heavier so they won't get
bumped around. Yeah, that's onething. Then I mean you're trying to
measure and you could accidentally push itfurther. Yeah, you could accidentally push
it out, or it could bethe simmeest thing. Even if you try
to put it back, you're guessing, especially because the actual measurement is from
(45:44):
cardboard to cardboard, not plastic toplastic exactly. And any Armada player will
tell you cardboard to cardboard, whichis essentially good general rule. Can your
rule? Can your measuring tool fitand sit? When you set it down,
sit on it? Will it touchboth cardboards? There's some things that
(46:05):
it does help. I had mentionedthat sometimes it does help to have a
Linus site laser because yes, anothergame, in this game, it doesn't
Linus site doesn't matter, but itcan be used to attract your seats,
to see if your arc if youare in art. And honestly, I
(46:28):
think that's a tool that every Armadaplayer should have, is a laser.
That's just like, okay, Ineed to check arc. Cool, we
got it. And last question isjust how did you feel about the outcome.
Ecstatic. As a longtime SSD fanand flyer, the fact that the
SSD took first, I'm super happyfor he was a brilliant player, got
(46:53):
some really good matches, and hedid beautifully. It was great. I
understand everybody. Yeah, everybody inthe top eight, everybody day to top
eight flew amazingly. Well. Obviouslythey got into top eight, they were
competent enough to get there. Sothe standings at the end of the day
(47:16):
reflected a great game of our modelto watch and every single match that's great.
I mean, that's all the questionswe had. Just a quick thing
about your experience at the tournament.Awesome. Yeah, I loved it.
I had a blast and I didn'tplay. So did you have any other
comments to make? I want tothank the community for coming. If we
(47:42):
turned back out here, every othertable is just littered with trash. Every
other table is just a wreck.I had to pick up like six water
bottles. My community takes care ofthemselves. Everybody volunteered to help me clean
up, and I chewed them allthe way. So I, like I
said, I love my community andI'm glad that I'm warm back. Oh,
(48:07):
thank you, thank you. Guys. So yeah, and he talked
about that the cleanliness of the groupapparently. Yeah, there was a ton
of problems at the end of theevent, a table speak not cleaning,
you know. The Armadic community evenwe offered to help when we when we
we were coming in late after theevent had ended, because we supposed to
(48:31):
be ending. They ended early andwe were coming in. We got lucky
to get the interview, which isnice. When we came in even we
were like, do you need anyhelp getting these cleaned up? Yeah?
I mean, just offering to helpis always nice. I mean, it's
the same with camping. If youpack it and pack it out that that's
(48:54):
just the best rule to follow withany tournaments. Pack it in, pack
it out. It doesn't matter ifit's water bottles or even if you get
a water bottle there, throw itaway. They had garbage cans all over
the place. You packed it in, it's your responsibility to clean it up.
And that's what it was great aboutthe Armada community is we really just
took care of the space. Everybodydid such a great job. And I
(49:17):
had a blast at this event.Avio was so much fun. Oh yeah,
And I honestly it'll be it'll beeven better to go back next year.
I'm gonna make Jake play next year. Rap because I'm not very good
at rolling dice. Bring your turbolaser, Jake print it off a turbo
laser tower, which this tower,I actually got it from the one of
(49:38):
the guys at the event had it. He designed it and it was phenomenal,
and Jake printed it off. SoI haven't painted it yet. Okay,
he's gonna paint it up and we'regonna bring it. Honestly, it's
Armada. Events are always a blast. I'm having so much fun. In
fact, as we kind of focusin a little bit in twenty twenty four
(49:59):
with Armada, as we play itmore and get into it and do some
ship breakdowns, stay tuned for those. Honestly, I'm I'm loving the game.
It's so I've been playing it foryears. It's so much fun.
But there's so much versatility, versatilityof ships, so everything's different, everything's
(50:20):
well balanced. For you, Gladiator, I hate you. I think it's
fun. Next time you bring aGladiator, I'm bringing an MC thirty.
I'm bringing the I'm bringing the Rebelsversion of the Gladiator. When we played.
I did not use that gladiator aswell as I could have, mainly
because I was using it to sweeparound the back. But Jake, next
(50:43):
time, I'm bringing an mc thirtytorpedo for a git. I got rid
and I can't wait. So weknow both know. Wait, we all
know that Rapid Reinforcements is coming up. Coming up, You're gonna be seeing
more of us as we're covering moreevents. Next week is of course the
(51:04):
hero Escape. That will be interesting. We remember playing Hero Escape as a
paper, so that that's that's agreat part. Nice big collect we have.
We have history of playing it asa kid, and it's almost nostalgic
yep. And so to finally haveit come back and having new stuff for
it is going to be fantastic. So keep an eye out for that.
(51:27):
Well, we'll be looking over thethe reveals that they do for it,
and of course we'll be looking overthe pre orders, because I think pre
orders are going live on March first. I don't know. You haven't looked
it up. It is, Ilooked it up. They're doing pre orders
as soon as that's done because it'sreleasing in August. Of course, there's
some other events that are going on. You made it this far, guys,
(51:49):
if you're listening to the archive,if you're here, of course,
share us with your friends. Comeon. Honestly, that is the best
way to see these things grow andto see us stick around for longer is
to share us with your friends.Word of mouth is the best way to
spread a small show or share usonline. You can also catch a subscribe
