The Dance Brothers came to Texas from North Carolina to set up a grist mill on the Brazos River at old Columbia. After the Civil War began, they started making Colt-style revolvers for the Confederate army. The settlement of Columbia is now known as West Columbia in Brazoria County.

The Alcalde of San Antonio recalls that this was the "flower of the Mexican army." Santa Anna lies to the Mexican Government and said he only lost 70 men.
