(01:10):
Mike g and back with me. As always is, are

What's going on, sir?

Speaker 2 (01:18):
What up? Welcome to it. The Mario bros are here.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Oh do you know the rap? Because I don't know
the rap? And I feel like such a closer because
I don't know the Mario rap.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
I do not know the Mario rap and I'm not
going to know it unless I hear it and then
I'm like, oh, oh, I got it. That is one
of those things that have been lost the time. In
fact and a little bit of research, there was another
thing that was lost the time till my eyes saw
And isn't it weird how that happened? You completely forget

(01:50):
about something in your eyes see it and you're like, oh,
e's a year or two.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
There's childhood just unlocking them and then softly tucked back away.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Which you've been thinking about it. Don't let me tell
you my bean story one day.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
But oh sp MLTN after Dark Baby was coming back.
Me and Wash getting to the nit grits today, we're
getting into the nitty gritty about a film that was
truly shocking and actually was not on our radar. Whatsoever
until very recently with the announcement of a upcoming Mario
sequel called Mario Brothers Galaxy, a Super Mario Galaxy that's

(02:31):
gonna be coming out soon, and I had no desire
to watch. This movie. Was one of those where it's like,
I know it's good, but just meh. And I'm so
happy that I was able to do so. Of course,
I'm talking about the Illumination plus Nintendo property, the Super
Mario Brothers Movie twenty twenty three. Are you excited to

(02:54):
talk about this one? My good sir, wash billion dollars,
billion dollars, Yes, I am billion dollars.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I am very excited to talk about this.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Yeah, if you shake this movie, coins come out.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Because there's a lot of things that come out of
this movie, and I am not sad about it.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
This movie. You know what, let's just show it on
the screen. Let's all go ahead and get this bad
Boys started. You're doing the review. What are your thoughts, sir?
What are your what are you looking at this screen?
What does this make you feel?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
All right? Well, all right, well fair enough, because our
next one was initial thoughts, So I just kind of
holding it a bit. So I wasn't sure, but we could.
We could we go go here because I'm gonna go
with initial thoughts about like, you know, the movie and
what I thought you're feeling. Do I want to see this?
And it's like, you know what, it's not that I

(03:53):
don't want to see it, but it's Super Mario Brothers.
So how good is it gonna be? It's not like
they and now it's Silent Hill, you know three, It's
not like they dropped off. Well, Doom sixty four made
an imax, you know what I mean. It was Super
Mario Brothers. So I was not It wasn't on my

(04:17):
must do list, but it was on my two do
list because I did want to see it, and yes,
we're getting to it at ted late. I actually thought
it was twenty twenty four, and I looked at the
release date April twenty twenty three. But I mean, a
billion dollars here and a billion dollars coming.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
You already know this thing prints money.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Man.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
My initial thoughts going into this, man, like you said,
like I was mentioning earlier, like you've alluded to, this
is one of those movies where it was like, I
know it's good, I just have no desire to watch it,
you know what I mean. It's like I this was
in the same cubby as like Hamilton, you know what
I mean, Like I know, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Still haven't still haven't seen it. Please, I'm sorry, Yes,
I'm good.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Alleviate that by good sir. Maybe we'll have a maybe
we'll do our FIRSTBOTM musical and just watch how Oh
Go and go over that little sing along. But this
movie had a lot of things going for it in
its initial run. In its initial run, you heard you
heard about this movie aditially people were really upset about
it because how they they brought this movie together in

(05:21):
a Nintendo direct I believe was the first time you
heard about the casting of this movie. And people were
upset because Chris Pratt was announced as Mario and everybody
was like, Oh, this is gonna be hot garbage, this
is gonna be corporate shill. What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
You know what I mean? I don't remember that, And
it was set, yes, for quite a while, took over
the movie. In fact, I wouldn't say they overshadowed the movie.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
I mean, Jack Black is King Bowser. It just seemed
very uninspired. And that's the last thing you want from
a Nintendo property. Nevertheless, straight farther two. Uh, everyone was like,
ill it gave you the ass as the kids saying,

(06:09):
gave you the ick. You know what I mean. Everybody
got immediate ick.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
You know, go on. I was about to say something.
We don't need to go there. Keep going. I'll tell you, yeah,
you see and and the ick. Sure. Let me ask
you this because you know we both have backgrounds, were
both video game nerds, you know, the whole ball of wax.

(06:37):
As far as the property, media, cartoon movies, what's your
history with it?

Speaker 1 (06:45):
I my earliest memory, one of my earliest memories of
being a human on Earth is playing Super Mario Brothers
Slash Duck Hunt on the Nintendo with my father. That
is my absolute zero sum memory of Life's sitting sitting
on the floor in a crappy apartment playing Mario. So

(07:07):
Mario goes back to my DNA and Mario has been
a part of my life since. You know. You have
things like Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo, which
I have fond memories. It's like one of my top
five video games of all time because of the memories
I have.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I never considered it. But yes, the Mario World is
a DNA changing game. If you were there at that
moment in time on the Super Nintendo, the brand new system,
you couldn't get anything better than that. It's like watching
Car Rangers for the first time, you know, the Super
Mario Super Show with Loot with with with with Uncle

(07:48):
Lou and you know what I mean, like the Mario
cartoon back in the eighties and nineties, and you grew
up with Mario, you know what I'm saying. So leading
up to this moment, it's like almost I'm scared, you
know what I mean, don't tarnish my beautiful Mario Memories
of Mario sixty four. Dude, it keeps going, you know

(08:10):
what I mean?

Speaker 2 (08:11):
And I guess that that's a great, great place to
like kind of kind of just piggyback off real quick.
It's like, you know what, And this is the feeling
and summing up, It's like, don't drag my history through
the mud. We don't have to do this when it's announced.
That's kind of the feeling I get. But you know
that said, yeah, my memory Donkey Kong Atari twenty six hundred.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yes I'm not I'm a right there. With Yeah, you know,
I was before my time, but I played it before.
My earliest was that that great controller with the buttons
that stuck and blowing the cartridge to get it to work.
Og stuff.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
You know what I'm saying, Buck, If someone is sitting
there trying to beat the world record for Donkey Kong
on YouTube, guess what I'm watching it, I'm like, oh,
you know what, I'm good. I'm good.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
I watched speed Runners of Mario all the time, the
Mario Maker game. It's like, like you said, like, don't
we don't need this? You know what I'm saying, This
isn't isn't a necessary thing. So if they're doing it,
you have to come correct, you know what I mean?
You have to come right. And I think that's a
good segue into our next topic, which is gonna be
from humble beginnings. I like to say, and I'm and

(09:26):
this is a very triggering image to a lot of people.
And I apologize because this is the original first Super
Mario film that came out like in nineteen ninety two,
ninety three, ninety.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Yeah, yeah, I think I had it up the movie
ninety three, ninety three, Yeah, y.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
What's funny is that back in the day, if you're
old enough to remember, very opposite of this movie that
we're reviewing today. This film was like people were excited
for this movie. Yo, They're doing a super Mario Brothers movie.
Bob Hoskins from Hood is gonna be, Mario young up
and coming John Liquazama is gonna be you know, say

(10:05):
Luigi Mario. You know they got Dennis Hopper to play
Damn King Koopa. Like it was crazy. The movie comes out,
it is absolute hot garbage, Doug, and it left such
a stain that Nintendo refused to make anything movie related
that I can think of until now. What are your

(10:27):
thoughts about these humble beginnings.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I did not know that fact about Nintendo, But if
that is true, talk about like learning your lesson and
being like, all right, I'm just thing our thing obviously,
you know what. We'll come back in a generation or
two see how it goes. You know, uh, this is
what we had this and cartoon. So of course I've

(10:52):
seen this movie at least three, maybe four times. I
want to say I've probably watched it as recently a
ten or fifteen years ago, because it was on television
and it's like Damn. I haven't seen old school Super
Mario Brothers in forever. But it was just so stupid.
It was just so stupid. And you know, as we

(11:16):
get into our conversation here, you know, and back in
ninety three, obviously, CGI it really wasn't a thing. It was.
It was on the forefront, but it wasn't really a
thing yet. In fact, that's Jurassic Park was right around then,
so that's right when we started to get into it.
So you know, what can you do when you got

(11:36):
when you're trying to depict Mario and television, you.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Know, I think about all the video game movies that
were coming out around this time, you know what I mean.
This was around when Mortal Kombat came out, one of
our best movies. This was a round Street Fighter came
out Double Dragon, if I remember correctly, it was horrible,
but it was out Double Dragon. I think you're gonna
watch Double Dragon. It's so I want to see it now.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I have to see this.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
The guy who plays the T one thousand is the
Shadow King, he's the Shadow Master, and it's so bad.
He has a blonde fade. It's out of control. But
you know, it's like Hollywood was dipping their toes into
this phenomena which is video games, and much like anything
that they don't understand, they just kind of like hit
with the brick wall. We're just now getting comic book

(12:27):
movies with depth in actual real writing, like in films
like Logan, and we're just now twenty twenty three gettings
video game movies that actually are trying to tell a
story and not just be a cash cow. So humble beginnings.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Bro, It's taken a while, and when you put it
in that type of vein, with many, many, many efforts
that have not gone well. That said, I think we
might be hitting a tad bit of a now they
kind of at least got what what we as the
public are looking for. And I think that Super Mario

(13:07):
Brothers billion dollars. Isn't this the first billion dollar video
game movie?

Speaker 1 (13:12):
And yes, I am.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Going to say billion dollars because this is Prince money,
Prince coins jing So so yeah, I think that we
are headed in a direction. And when you talk about
the announcement of Galaxy just the other day, it's like, oh, well,
if you're giving us more, who's gonna complain? You know

(13:36):
what I mean?

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Do you think we needed failures like this film to
then kind of wake up, because, like you said, it
took about three generations for us to get twenty twenty
three Super Mari Did they ever? Did they learn their
lesson or do you think they just grabbed their chips
and left the poker table as we.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Talk about Super Mario Brothers. I think Nintendo did something
super special with this movie. I hope it can be duplicated.
I don't know if it can be duplicated. I'm assuming
it can be duplicated. But what they did is they
got a lot of people who love Nintendo and who
love Mario in a room and they said, yeah, we

(14:19):
have a lot of money, so just do whatever you
want to do and then let us know. And that's
kind of what came out.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
I think it's the opposite bro. I think Nintendo was
so scared of having another Mario on top of the
bad juju they were getting from the Chris Pratt decision
that they literally I am so worried for whoever directed
this movie, because the clouds of more Door came over

(14:50):
his house and it was freaking Miamoto and three Yakuza
and they were like, if you mess up, this movie
and you don't listen to what we're gonna say, We're
gonna rate you in front of your family. I think
Nintendo was breathing down this guy's neck on every millisecond
of this film to get it right. I'm not gonna
feel Nintendo just like bro, this is all it's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I'm not going to say Nintendo's hand wasn't in it.
But it also is a film made from joy. You
can tell like this is not a film that was
forced out of someone, you know what I mean. And
so Nintendo, I think we might have mentioned Nintendo w
our Live last week. Nintendo has a certain way about

(15:36):
how protective they are of their products. So yes, I'm
sure working conditions, it was one of those situations where
you're talking to the boss every three and a half minutes.
But that being said, you know Nintendo doesn't want to
mess up, at least not for another twenty five year. Wait.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah, I think the two could be mutually inclusive. I
think you can have the iron fist of Nintendo, but
when you open up the fist, it has treats, and
it has enthusiasm, and it has a fervor to bring
Mario to life. I think it could be both. I
think that there are some people who are dreadful this
the passion of this film, and let's just get into it.

(16:15):
Let's just get into Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom, right.
I think this movie oozes like care. This movie oozes
enthusiasm like it reminds me of like watching Willie walk
in the chocolate factory for the first time. You know
what I mean. What are your thoughts on the art
direction from Benin to the Mushroom Kingdom.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
This is one of the things I'm not sure they
can reduplicate. First, I want to say I love this
freaking movie. I loved this freaking movie. Within about five minutes.
I went hooked billion dollars like I get it right.
And when you talk about the art direction, that is

(17:00):
one of the reasons is because somehow, some way, and
you know, they did it heavy in the earlier scenes
and they cut cut it out later because I'm sure
it was a tad bit of a distraction, but they
were able to blend this cinematic video game style with
animation that actually made it look like honestly, if you

(17:23):
had told me it was a ninety minute clip at
the beginning of them. And that's one of the things
I wish they would have done. If you would have
told me that it was a ninety minute clip at
the start of a video game, I would have been like, Oh, yeah,
for sure, that was a ninety minute opening scene and
it had it ended, and you could have went out

(17:43):
and bought a video game that like, kept this adventure
going billion dollars.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
I I you make a very valid point that the
camera of this movie is so smart where it feels,
like you said, it almost like a Nintendo game for
the year three thousand, you know what I mean. It
has the cinematic eye of like a God of War
or a Horizon zero Dawn, but with the fancy of

(18:12):
a Nintendo property. Like I said, it looks like a
a game on the Nintendo eight trillion, you know what
I'm saying, Like because it feels like you're playing There's
there are moments like when Mario was running through Brooklyn
to catch to like I guess, to make like a
bus or something. He's literally platforming. There's a moment where
he's literally platforming and it feels like you're playing a

(18:32):
two D game for a split second.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Clever, right, clever, and I want to say, didn't they
try something like that in the John Legizamo movie and
they did not look good? Right? And because what can
you do? You know what I mean? It's nineteen ninety three,
but they could have easily have messed us up, right,
And this is where it comes down to that care
and being in the room with you know, the people

(18:57):
going now, this is kind of how it needs to look.
But for me, the Mushroom Kingdom fan freakantastic, man in
Brooklyn fantastic. And I also love that Nintendo did not
feel the need to force ac anything. It's so easy.

(19:18):
This movie is so easy to watch. You're not wondering
where's Mario from, what's the backstory? What? You know what
I mean? It just moves and picks up click click click,
and it's like.

Speaker 1 (19:31):
Uh, this is There's never a dull moment, even at
the beginning where you're waiting for him to get to
the Mushroom Kingdom, you're not. Because they set up the
Mario brothers as the most lovable, likable like down on
their luck but got gumps in and can't do attitude,
and you fall in love with Luigi, You fall in
love with Luigi's my personal favorite Mario character of all time.

(19:52):
I love the second brother, I love the underdog, I
love the non hero, I love Luigi. And they made
and voiced by the Charlie Day was brilliant. I'm like
the perfect Luigi Mario and they it's so and like
you said, it's like it's like going into a warm bath.
This movie it's just you flowing and you're just like yeah,
like okay, this is the sweet spot. This whole movie

(20:14):
is a giant sweet spot. And not to mention, the
music is so as a good oh my god, like
the the when he when he visits them, when he
faces Prince Princess Peaches Castle and there's this beautiful like
medley of the Mario music as he's going through and

(20:35):
going through the pipes and all that. The music almost
made me cry, dude, Like this is the perfect love
letter to all generations of Mario, from from Super Mario Bro,
from Mario Bros. To Super Mario Bros. To Super They
even had a Super Mario three moment. Oh so good.

(20:57):
The music is the winner of this movie. The I
want this, I want this on vinyl bro.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Like the music definitely is a highlight all of it.
It's it's it's done very well. I want to talk
about that scene with the pipes is another scene that
was just beautifully shot and somehow makes sense, which is important.
You have to have that you have a good movie.

(21:22):
You can't just have a mess and like pipes around
like it has to make contextual sense. And the way
it was done was just done in such a perfect manner,
in in in in relation to the game and your
experience in the game that it's like, uh, yeah, this sucks, bro,
I hate going down the wrong pipe.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Yeah, because he's stuck because he keeps going down the
wrong pipes. And then they do a and they pull
out it is the whole city's made of pipes. He's like,
oh crap, you know what I mean. The the when
Luigi first goes to when he goes to Cooper Castle
and he is going through the haunted forest and meets

(22:05):
dry Bones, and he actually goes into a haunted mansion
and they tease that you don't get the full Luigi's
Mansion experience, but he goes into a haunted castle for
a split second, you don't see any booze, but gives
you like a little taste of what Luigi's mansion could be.

Speaker 2 (22:22):
I got a ton of I thought we were there,
you know what I mean? Yeah, I thought were doing this.
I was like, this is good enough for me. This
is more than I had hoped for. Let's put it
that way. It was more than I had hoped for.
And it's one of the sweet spots since we're talking
about Luigi's mansion and we're going to talk about billion

(22:43):
dollars being oh, well, what are they going to do
with Luigi's mansion movie? Billion Dollars? Right? One of my
favorite shots, and it's done for a reason. I don't
know why. I'm assuming I know why. But at the
very beginning, the room is all shots of the punch
Out fighters and they're like, are we going to get

(23:06):
a punch out movie? Wouldn't that be freaking cool?

Speaker 1 (23:12):
And it's like, yeah, wash they they they lay so
much freaking ground in this movie. There's so much non
storytelling storytelling in this movie, from things on the wall
to seeing jump Man to having Mario's friend be the
original voice of Mario. It's like you said, posters of
Little Mac around like he's a real person, Like, yeah,

(23:33):
little Max around somewhere in this Brooklyn, you know, like, oh,
like it's too much. It's almost like a sensory overload,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
That's what that's how come it's so damn good. And
it's like, you, guys, really you pulled something off with this.
Because you know, I'm not sure what video game movie
we have coming next. Let's reference Halo the television and
show what didn't Halo give us? Halo?

Speaker 1 (24:07):
What give us?

Speaker 2 (24:11):
You know what I mean? These are not complex ideas,
it's can you execute on them? And they could have
just as easily failed. Some might say, I'm sure some
people didn't like this movie.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
Nobody likes everything.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
You're right, right, Okay, fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
You can always hide in a shadow of a doubt, right,
But for this old man who grew up with this stuff,
this was like the perfect love letter. And like you
mentioned earlier, pacing right, this movie never lingers too long
on a locale. You're constantly moving, You're constantly when Brooklyn
was just starting to like grow out of its, you're
getting getting in the way. Then you get to a pipe.

(24:50):
You could see what happens in pipes, and it's like
this big pipe freeway of light. You know, Bora borealicies
and all types of crazy stuff. And then you're in
the fields with the freaking toadstool. You meet toad stool.
Next thing you know, you're in the city. Next to
you know, you're running the gauntlet Princess Peach and she
literally and I was sitting in there watching like they're

(25:11):
not gonna give her the Mario three float. They're not
gonna give her the Mario two float. They're not gonna
give her the Mario two float. She's running through it.
It's so sick, and she's running the gauntlet with the
chomp Chompson ship. At the end, she does, she stops
and she does the float you get in Mario two.
And I almost cried. Brother, these mother efforts just know

(25:31):
they know how to mess with me because outside of
Luigi's little jump, I love me some like Peach in
Mario two. So it's like they just get it.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
Okay, you want to say, Mario two is the only
Mario I haven't.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Beaten, like because it's damn hard. It's hard now I
can't beat it. No, no, you every single time. Bro,
let's get into sportlilers. We're gonna go into spoilers right now.
We did all that enthusiastic talking and tell you what
was this movie was about. No, that's just a testament

(26:09):
to how much meat is on this bone. So any
any pre spoiler thoughts about this film before we move
on anything like.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
Pre spoilers, No, I don't. I don't really think so.
I mean, no, the pacing didn't really allow for it.
It just kind of clipped, you know what I mean.
It's not like it's like I like how you said
when Brooklyn was just getting tired, because I really was.
It was like it was just at the point where
I'm like, all right, what exactly are we doing? And

(26:38):
it was like like that. I was like, I didn't
expect that transition.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Nice, yeah, and I was Brooklyn is just getting about tired. Boom,
you're onto the next thing. Okay, we're in the city. Boom,
You're onto the you know, you're meeting the princess. Okay,
we're gonna switch back to Cooper Castle. Boom, and it's
like it keeps going. I can talk about that forever,
but we're getting into spoilers for this movie. If you want,
you can start watch the movie. Stop drop, shut them down,

(27:02):
open up, shop. But we're getting in to spoilers. Now.
Let's talk about the plot and how this movie had
a plot, which is weird because most video game movies
don't have plots. Watch do you want to do the
honors of breaking down our elevator pitch? Or would you
like me too?

Speaker 2 (27:22):
I you know, a very very simply put you know,
Mario and Luigi down on their luck plumbers, you know,
made a made a nice cheesy commercial. They're at home
with the other Louis. We don't have a last name,
Mario Marios family, the Mario Mario's and they're getting a
tad bit of hell. And I like how they made

(27:42):
Mario the the every man. He stands up the bullies.
He's like, I can do anything if I put my
mind to it with enough hard work and effort, you
know what I mean. He's really that type of dude.
And essentially what happens is they go to fix a
leak in the city to become like, oh god, another

(28:04):
great gorgeous shot like the flood. Dude. I was like,
is that man about to come flying out of here?
Something like school? Yeah, with the dog too. They then
go to fix the flood, get sent over to the
Mushroom Kingdom, where shenanigans ensued. They meet Toad, who is

(28:28):
my favorite character who didn't quite care for as much
in this movie, but that's fine. And then you know,
Mario and the Princess go on to face Bowser, who
is looking for his wife and pretty damn powerful. I like.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
I like the power scaling of the characters because it's
damn pitch perfect to the games like Mario with We
all know Mario without a mushroom's just about the weekend.
If you touch him, he will explode type character, and
they kept that true to the film. And when he
finally does and funny, of course, Mario hates mushrooms ill gross,

(29:11):
So when he has to eat a magic mushroom, uh huh,
he then gets suit. He actually goes whoa, whoa, whoa.
He gets big, which makes him even shorter than princess,
because when he's in normal, he's super shorter than princess.
But even when he goes bigger, he's still shorter than Princess,
which is which is a fun little easter egg because

(29:32):
Mario's never taller than the Princess. These people have their
character bottles that should ever be broke it, ever, and
he has to find his brother Luigi, who's been kind
of pseudo kidnapped by Bowser, and there's a whole side
thing of Bowser kind of torturing Luigi in a weird
way that was kind of dark, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
It was a little dark for this movie. I'm going
to say that. I'm like, are they really doing this?
And it's like, no, they're they're really doing this. I'm like,
aren't like four year olds watching this or something. Oh,
it was kind of weird.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Yeah, man, we're gonna get into weirder things because we
have to. And this is actual almost slide. It's like
the love triangle between Bowser, Mario and Peach. But that's
what the crux of the movie is Boucher wants to
invade the Mushroom Kingdom. He's found the Superstar, which is
a nod to Mario sixty four, those big giant stars

(30:28):
you collect throughout the world, and Mario has to become
more than himself to conquer the day, and he had
this feeling that Mario already had it in him and
this which is kind of like another day in the office,
but at the same time, you get to see his
trials and tribulations, him spending twenty four hours running the gauntlet,
trying to understand this new world he's in, you know

(30:48):
what I mean. I like that he's just not instantly
good at everything.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
He's not full.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
He's not the Wayne, the Rock Johnson, he's not the superhero.
He's like, crap, what do you want me to do?
I gotta jump on these things that are over like
a seventy five foot drop.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
And I know you're gonna talk about the love romance,
the love triangle, but I want to say, in this film,
they did not necessarily set up Mario and Peach being
like in love with each other, you know what I mean?
It was subtle, whereas Bowser was like wave.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Bowser spitting and we're gonna But I think there's the
scene where where Princess is almost like I would say not,
I hate to use the word not even almost like
courting Mario in the in this field of red flowers.
It's a beautiful scene where they have the fire where

(31:40):
she she grabs, she grabs, and you see her costume
change to the classic white and yellow, right and red,
and she she goes she you know, she starts a fire,
and they're kind of like, yeah, the stars are beautiful
where you come from off that WOOKI woop and you
can kind of see the budding relationship. But Mario and
Peach have never been official ever, right, so it's like

(32:02):
it's Peach is kind of horrible. I mean, like in
the grand scheme of things.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
I mean, when do you think about all the times
you rescued her? I mean, and you know, if any
Mario fan, then the first Mario you're like, dude, how
many how many castles are you in?

Speaker 1 (32:17):
You know what? We can't help ourselves. You gotta talk
about it. You got it. I'm sorry, guys, we gotta
we got There's more plot, but Peaches, Peaches, Peaches, Peaches Peaches.
It's like we all play Mario. We all we all
see toad Stule say hey, Mario, princess is in another castle, right,
and you're constantly killing Bowser over and over and over,

(32:39):
and it's this unspoken thing, like you know, before this movie,
everyone knew like is Bowser in love with Princess Peach?
Why does he keep kidnapping her? Then? Why is she
just with him? She's with him more than she gets
with Mario in the Games, you know what I mean,
And an eagle eyed person will see that. In Super
Mario others, you're fighting Coopa juniors, which are the children

(33:05):
of King Coopa that all weirdly resemble princesses and princes.
They all have little hats on and they have hair
before you kidding, kind of look like the children are
some weird amalgamation of Peach and Bowser, which is very

(33:28):
strange if you think about it, because it could be
one of two things, right, Either Peach is like hell
Na and Bowser just having children's acexually it's like, no,
my kids are gonna look like you because that's my
mental dream, or there's something going on and Mario is
just a cuck in the middle. I'm putting it out there,
all right. I didn't do this. It's and Jack Black

(33:52):
does an amazing job encapsulating I think Coopa. I think
actually he is the standout of the film, not just
because of the viral song, but because he bounces really
good between evil kind of Coopa and also a love
struck puppy who just doesn't know how to talk to
you know, the v vim and and he's constantly striking

(34:14):
out and like reciting things to himself and writing soliloquies
with the with the you know, with Magical Coopa. I
can't remember the name, but my favorite yep, Magical Cooper Rules.
But what are your thoughts on this? You know, when
we're talking about it, The Secret Love of Peach.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
There's a couple of things I want to key in.
One and another shout out to MLTN Live on Friday Check.
I was given Jack Black some hell last episode, and
I want to say Jack Black showed up here. But
I also want to say Jack Black showed up. But
what you said earlier in regards to Nintendo, they were like, yeah,

(34:52):
Jack Black, you're not going to Jack Black this up.
You have your box and state in it will be here,
and that is it. Because Jack Black does not really
do voices, you know what I mean. He does not
sound like Jack Black in this movie. You can tell

(35:14):
he's he's doing his thing and he's fantastic. So I
did want to point that out. I think that they
made this about as lovable as they possibly could have.
It's one of those things that has to be in here.
It has to be in the movie, But how are
you going to pull it off? In a contextual way

(35:35):
that we even care. And what they did is they
went the lovable route. They went the he he practices
his soliloquies and he really does love this woman. And
when he comes to like you know, the the Bowser
Castle comes in Mushroom Kingdom and oh god, we're all
gonna die. And he's like, yo, I'm not I'm not
here to do any of that. Are you married? And

(35:59):
you look?

Speaker 1 (36:00):
You look nice today, you smell good. What do you want?

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Man? Uh?

Speaker 1 (36:04):
Can we just rule the rule the kingdom together? You
want to get married?

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Hell? No? Hell?

Speaker 1 (36:09):
Well you know I just destroy everything, you know, so
you make your choice, you know what I mean. I
you made a very good point that they really had
to rain in Jack for this movie because you could
feel him fighting in the cage of this character, like
you know what I mean, Like he's he's rattling the
cage of Koopa and Nintendo's keeping him roud in and

(36:33):
there's moments like you said, he's I think about kum
Fu Panda, or he's just Jack black Jack blacking it up,
and like here though, he has to be King Cooper.
You have to get voice training, you have to get
a ravel to your voice. You have to keep it
within character.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
You need this character. I need Bowser. I don't need
Jack Jack playing Bowser. I need Bowser for this to
work because everybody else is showing up Mario's Mario, Luigi's Luigi.
You know what I mean. Toad Steele got a little
bit crazy, but I guess he's just a toad. So
they're like, yeah, I guess a little nut's bad. But yeah,

(37:11):
this one character and and not it has to be good.
It has to hit right like it can't be bad.
So yeah, a lot of pressure for Jack Black in
this role.

Speaker 1 (37:24):
Do you think he wrote Peaches, Peaches Peaches? I kind
of assume. I assume he did. With his Tenacious D background,
his musical background, I would think they would give him
the license to do that, but then go behind him like, no,
what about you do this? This is going to punch
this up. You know, this needs to be a viral hit,
you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
I think, you know, when we are going live in chat,
I think I'll probably look that up there because I
do think that I would hope that he did. It's
my hope that he brought some of that in because
it was very musical and very creative, and so I'm
hoping Jack Black had had a saying that that wasn't

(38:03):
writers otherwise a good job.

Speaker 1 (38:06):
One thing I want to talk about, which is not
really pertaining to this particular slide, because we're getting back
to the end of our slides here before the final verdict,
it's that we have not mentioned one of the best
scenes in the film, which is him going to the
Kong Country. He went to Donkey Kong Country.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
Yes, you know what this is?

Speaker 1 (38:33):
WoT n we could do crazy stuff. We're flipping back
to the plot Koopa Kingdom, Donkey Mario kart racing excellent,
the Rainbow Road, the Rainbow Road, the fight between Mario,
the classic fight between Mario and Donkey Kong where they

(38:54):
are literally on the floating rafters and Donkey Kong starts
throwing the you know say, it's so pitch perfect. D D.
Kong is there?

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (39:04):
I got hype when I saw D. D. Kong. I
got because I was like, Donkey Kong Country movie, Donkey
Kong Country movie, Can we just do it? Can we
just do it? You already have seth, You already have
Seth broken, You already have Seth brogan playing, which is
a brilliant at what brilliant casting. He did a great job.
Cranky Kong was there, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
I love Cranky Kong was being cranky like he is
in the game, you know what I mean. It took
a second and I was like, oh, wait, he's being cranky.
This is great, Like it's it's so good Donkey Kong Country.
And you you can tell they were set it up
because they spanned over that that world for a while
and there's like, ah, there's a lot going on here.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
There is a lot.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
There's a whole movie going on over here.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
That we're we're just gonna kind of dip our toes into.
And it makes and I hate to be that comic
book nerd, but it makes me wish Marvel was better
at this building a world. Oh that you know what
I'm saying, Like, yes, this is a spider Man movie,
but can we get the feeling that the Avengers are
just right there? Are Daredevil just passed by? Or can

(40:10):
we just have can we play with each other a
bit better? Whereas Nintendo was like, no, this we're building
a universe, and I see shades of Star Fox in
this movie. I see shades of a bunch of properties
that are like they could just show up, and it
gives you that sense of fancy, like what am I
gonna see next? And because of the pacing, you just

(40:30):
don't know, you know what I mean? The fight between
Mario he gets the tanuki suit, Dude, he actually gets
the tanukie at the end.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
I do kind of wish we would have spent a
tad bit more time in the suits than we did.
I will say Donkey Kong, that was one of the
art styles that I was fine with, but I kind
of wish they would have went old school like Donkey
Kong with for the broader by and more the ape

(41:01):
like physique. That just made a tad bit bigger, you
know what I mean. So that was the one thing.
But I thought that the carts were fantastic. I am
Rainbow Road shot like there's been a lot of television
and there's a lot of animation, Like you put that

(41:23):
shot up against all other shots, you know what I mean,
because it's the Rainbow Road and that is not supposed
to work in black Space, and they rocked it.

Speaker 1 (41:33):
Can I just say, like the visual fidelity of this
movie is some of the sharpest animation I think I've
ever seen, like watching this, Yeah, because the colors pop, dude,
like you said, the Blacks on the Rainbow Road and
wa ha, you know, and him like doing a little
and the thing and it's starting like and it's so

(41:56):
small where it's like, you know, they start, the racing
goes bam bam, and Mario actually gets the hop jump
the hop start if you press the button, you know,
if you know, you know right. Movie is killing me, dude,
This movie is killing my It's killing my brain. It's
too good, right and everything, which it.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
Actually makes me wonder because you know, it's it's a
kid's movie. But when you look at the date, it's
twenty twenty three, it's like this movie was not made
for kids. This movie was made for us. Us, Like
this movie was made for us. They're like, yeah, it's
a kid's movie, okay, but kids don't know what any
of this means, you know what I mean, there's no

(42:39):
context for them. Like I haven't played the Switch super Marios.
I did watch a lot of Galaxy just to kind
of get into the world a little bit, which looks
like a fantastic game. But Galaxy is not Super Mario Brothers,
which I thought, when you look at the title of
the movie and what's in the movie, it's very like, oh,

(43:02):
you went just right on the nose there, Huh.

Speaker 1 (43:05):
This movie is very heavily inspired I want to say
by like Super Mario World, very heavily inspired by Mario three.
There's a lot of Mario three in this movie, and
really Donkey Kong Country, you know what I mean, are
really big expirations for then Mario sixty four. There's a
lot of Mario sixty four, the very first in the

(43:27):
very very first Maria.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
Super Mario Brothers, like like literally, that's what I think.
Is like on in the nose when you get the
Galaxy announcement and it's like, oh, galaxy, So what's the
world gonna be? It's gonna be all Galaxy because when
I look at this, there's so much of the color
scheme for like the first half of the movie is

(43:49):
all like old school Super Mario Brothers.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
Like it's amazing, and I'm looking at what's missing. I
was like, Okay, there's not a lot of sunshine in here,
so I'm guessing they can hold that for the film.
There's not a lot of RPG. You can even go
Mario RPG, like you know, the Vietnam Superstars and all
that stuff, and of course the Galaxy series, which you

(44:14):
know they're gonna be leaning into. But I look at
like all the inspirations for like you said, Super Mario Bros.
Mario two, Mario three, a lot of sixty four in here.
The very first scene in the movie is the Cooper
Kingdom attacking the ice level of sixty four with the
with the damn penguins, and this is just the taste
of our power. They're just throwing like freaking business snowballs

(44:35):
at them, the classic dude amazing.

Speaker 2 (44:38):
I was like, this is stupid, this is stupid.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
I love they're captured and you have that one. The
only nod to Galaxy is that one depressed I don't
know what it is like the one depressed likes being Luma,
who was like, yeah, we're all gonna die and we're
it is nothing and why it like, well, you shut up,
and they're like, no, this is this is alluding to

(45:07):
something that's cool.

Speaker 2 (45:08):
Let favorite character in the movie. Why because it was
so it was so out of left field when we
got it. You know, you're you're on this grand adventure
and then just oh no, what's the point of living.
We're all gonna die? And it twirls itself for like.

Speaker 1 (45:29):
Dude, o man, and it's of course it's the celestial
being from Galaxy, right, it's the tease of the next movie.
That's you know, constantly there, Oh dollion dollars.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
I mean, I don't know, and you can, we can
get into it a little bit if you want. But
hot toys, did any hot toys come up? Vent?

Speaker 1 (45:54):
The problem with Nintendo you go back to it. They're
very protective of their proper t There is nobody's making
this stuff. Man, you don't think I want a one
six scale like Mario and Luigi with like fabric clothes.
And you know what my dream want six scale figure
is that I will never get because Nintendo is the

(46:14):
way they are. A die Cast wants six scales. Sami
ish Aran from Metroid. I want a Metroid Prime Metroid
that's like seven, that's like fifth, that's like Darth Vader height,
and it's just samus. Dude, that's my dream hot toy
that will never exist because Nintendo is just there's Nintendo
and for all their they're like Disney in that way.

(46:34):
For all their pluses, there are so many minuses, you
know what I'm saying. And this movie, and like I
said earlier, this movie is a screaming example of what's
wrong and what's right with the Nintendo.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
I mean, I I will say that. When I got
done watching it, I went, if this is what? Because
this is the first Nintendo branded movie and I love
their icon and it looks great. If this is what
we're going to get, Nintendo will quickly quickly become a

(47:09):
power player in the industry, without a doubt. Because this,
I thought, I saw the what's the Pixar in Canto?
In Canon? Okay? Great? And Canto is great? This was better,
this better, This is want to you know what I mean.
So it's like, if this is the quality we're gonna get, man,

(47:32):
Nintendo may may have a whole hand to cards.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
You remember when we were talking about the live action
Legend of Zelda and I was very down on it.
I was like, I'm scared it's gonna be dumb. How
do you have a non talking character? But I did
a whole joke piece about it. Right I saw this.
Now I feel a little bit differently. If Nintendo is
as hand hody with this as they are with a
live action legend of Zelda. There is hope that we're

(48:00):
gonna get something that's gonna be absolutely phenomenal, because when
it's live action it's triply hard to get right. This
had a lot of leeway because animation, because it looks
it's model perfect, Tomrio, it's model perfect to Peach. But
if you put you know, Anna Taylor Joy, the real
person as Peach is not gonna be on model. You're

(48:22):
gonna have to make changes. You're gonna have to make
concessions because it's a human being. It's not an unrealistic
short Italian man, like, who do you cast in that?

Speaker 2 (48:34):
Right?

Speaker 1 (48:35):
So I'm curious to see what a live action, humanly
proportional Legend of Zelda looks like with Nintendo at the helm.
Now that we have this damn near perfection. Because I
can't tell you a bad thing about this movie, I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
I will say that I much like you. As this
film was wrapping up, I was like, Oh, Zelda, ooh,
we may be getting something very interesting. This is the case, right,
And so, uh, you know, when we talk about the
lore of the Master Sword, and it's like, oh, you
guys are gonna go do the Master Store sword story

(49:14):
somehow cool. But I will also say that, you know,
with this movie, as I said, Nintendo didn't feel as
though they needed to explain much like Peach, how Peach
become a princess, which was a question I asked myself
as this movie was going. I'm like, I mean, how
just become a princess? And they're like, don't worry about it. Here,

(49:38):
don't worry if she's the princess, who's the king and queen?
What what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (49:44):
Shut up? Just the princess. Okay, we erected, And but
they do kind of say, oh you might, and Mario says, oh,
you must have come from my world. They never really
are committal. And if you you know what's crazy. If
you're watching the film, you actually see Princess Daisy at
the very beginning of the movie. Notice that she's the

(50:04):
I said, ooh, that's Daisy news reporter. It's princess. You know,
there's multiple princesses. Princess Daisy, the one with the brown
hair and the yellow outfit, is in the absolute beginning
of the movie as the newscaster in Brooklyn, and then
you have you have the other, you have the there's
another princess. I can't remember her name, but she's from
Galaxy and she's the one with the blue dress that

(50:27):
that goes on. She's gonna be coming in Galaxy. But
I was like, the first thing I saw was like, oh,
they're talking good Ooh, that's Daisy. And that's the princess
that is in the original Mario movie. In the Mario
nineteen ninety three, they saved Daisy. They don't save Peach.
Peach is not there because she's in the real mushroom
Kingdom's real king though not in that weird Detroit mushroom

(50:50):
Kingdom that they had with the bombs and the Yoshi's.
This movie did not have Yoshi's.

Speaker 2 (50:55):
No no Yoshi. But you know, again, that's cold. That's
gonna be big next movie one, one, two three. That's
like five billion dollars that you know much money you
can do with what you can do with five extra
bi And let's say Nintendo's not hurting for cash to
begin with.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Now, hey, I got to see it. Now, sir, do
you want to put the Yoshi into the game in
the movie? How much? How long is it? It's about
two hours. How much money is that? No, we'll wait
till next time. Let them wait, let them wait. The
movie was so good my brain did even come. Like,

(51:32):
there's no Dinosaur Island, there's no booze, there's no haunted mansion.
There's a lot of things that they just left out
to because this movie is so tight. Yes, it could
have had these things, but it would have bloated that.
It would have bloated the experience. You know, cuts, and I.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Don't think that's what they wanted. I think that's like
me to be like, oh, this is really quick and
really easy to watch, and so I thank you Nintendo.

Speaker 1 (52:01):
Yeah, because they could have easily cut all of the
Donkey Kong stuff, because that's not necessarily Mario like branded.
That's Donkey Kong branded and shoved in a whole Luigi's
mansion section. He could have shut shoved in a whole. Hey,
this is a this is a Yoshi. But they were like, no,
we want we need to build a universe. Yes, but

(52:22):
Donkey Kong is right over there. The Donkey Kong kingo
was right over there. Makes a lot more sense.

Speaker 2 (52:27):
I know we were gonna spend all Day and water
World because in the games you spent all freaking day
in the water World that it's like, God bluss Man
is win them back on land and we were only
there for a hot second. We didn't even see them electric.

Speaker 1 (52:44):
You didn't see him swim, you didn't see the little
thing that.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
Even know.

Speaker 1 (52:48):
They did play that music during the end credits. They
played the music once again. The music in this movie
is so effing good. Uh. They played another different Mario
medley at the end of the movie when they're doing
the animated credits, which is excellent, and I think there's
even a post credit scene that I missed. One thing
that one thing that was kind of disappointed in is

(53:11):
that they allude to Cape Mario because in the Super
Mario Brothers commercial they're both flying wearing the yellow capes, like, oh,
we're gonna get like Super Mario Cape, and they traded
it for the Tanuki suit. I'm like, I wish it
was the Mario Cape because I'm more of a Super
Mario War World kid, you know what I'm saying. So
I kind of wanted to Capes more. But I get it,

(53:32):
I get it.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
But the Raccoon was the first time you were able
to fly. You know what I mean? You were like, wait,
we fly? Now?

Speaker 1 (53:41):
What even destroys the bullet bill with the spin with
the tail spin in his eye? That causes us like
this is so damn smart, dude. He does the move, Doug,
he does the effing move. He did the thing thing.
Now we got to talk about final verdicts here, man,

(54:03):
we got to talk about we're getting long in the tooth.
It's time to give our final thoughts and rank this
bad boy wash. Give me your final thoughts and rate
this from zero out of five magic mushrooms? What are
you gonna rate this thing?

Speaker 2 (54:23):
I love this movie. My rating when I was first
watching it was five five five, like five five five.
That was about four days ago. And now we've worn
so it doesn't necessarily have the staying power. That said,
I have been singing Mario themes for in the last

(54:46):
four days, and I really am feeling to play some
freaking Mario for like I've been getting in for like
three four minutes. No, I kind of want to sit
down and like do like a run of Samario. So
for that I have to get of it a ton
of credit. But this movie is damn near perfect in

(55:09):
every way I would have wanted it to be. It
was completely unexpected that they could pull something off like
this visually and creativity creatively. So I'm doing this right now.
I'm going to give it a five out of five.

(55:34):
I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna
give it five.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
I'm not mad at you. I'm not managing five. I
try to be doing these episodes right. I gave Superman
a four point five. I gave Fantastic four or five
out of five. I couldn't find anything wrong with the movie,
and I want to be I want to be objective
when it comes to these movies. I don't want to
lean too much into my nostalgia. I want to look

(55:59):
at it in a white room. What is this movie
versus my nostalgia? And I said it in our multim
ran up, so like that, certain movies are more powerful.
The nostalgia's more powerful than rational thought. Nineteen ninety two
teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a movie like that. For
the nostalga is just too strong. What do you want

(56:20):
me to do? I was a young kid in the nineties.
I love the Ninja Turtles. Sue me right. I watched
this movie and I'm trying to look at it with
a credit I would. I didn't want to watch it,
which is crazy. I was like, I gotta watch this thing.
I might as well watch it now me and watch
her gonna be.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Talking not at all.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
I just was like, I don't it's just h And
the music came on and it it literally felt like
my mom stopping me in the back of my neck,
like boys, pay attention, pay attention, you need you're you're
awake now right. And this movie grabbed me by the
back of my neck and it was almost like get
out where I'm sitting in the chair cry. It's like
sinking to the floor. But I don't want to watch

(56:58):
this movie. Sink and sink into like nostalgic Doug like,
and I can sink back into a ten year old
child sitting on the floor. Chris Cross applesaus playing Mario.
You know what I mean. I think the writing is
on points. I think the music alone gives this a
four out of ten. The music is so well orchestrated.

(57:19):
It's my favorite character in the movie. They never it
never lingers too long. The pacing is great. I think
everybody outside of like you said, maybe told Stool did
a great job. They didn't give him a lot to
work with. I think Anna Taylor Joy did a great
job as Princess Peach. I think Chris Pratt, even with
all the fire and all the vitriol, gave it his best.

(57:42):
For Mario, he even got the voice down. Sometimes. There
were moments where he said, that's the goal. You know
what I mean.

Speaker 2 (57:50):
I'm very Mario man not you know what I mean, Like,
it's not an easy task. No, someone walks up you
and go be bugs, buddy.

Speaker 1 (57:59):
It's hard. And you know what they didn't like you said,
it's so easy to mess up a movie like this.
They can have overdid it, they could have underdid it.
You have to find that perfect sweet spot. And when
he said the you know, Mario only says three things.
You know, Mario's not a talker, you know what I mean.
So when he has to say let's the go, or

(58:19):
when he has to say waha, he has to say,
its me, Mario. They put it in moments of the
film where it's super important, where he's getting up the
courage to run the gauntlet. He says, let's the goal,
and you're like, yeah, let's go and you get hyped
for him. You know what I'm saying. So this movie
is a triumph. I can't fault it for anything. I

(58:43):
don't want to just give it a bad score. To
give it a bad score, that's not right. This movie,
this is the best video game adaptation ever made, higher
than Mortal Kombat, higher than Silent Hill, higher than anything
I can think of. And it's cheating almost. It's cheating
because it's animated, and it's cheating because it had the owner,

(59:06):
the maker of the game there with a damn gun saying,
you're gonna get this ship right. I don't care about
your artistic freedoms. I don't care about your liberty storytelling,
I don't care about your background. You're gonna get this
s right, or we will destroy your entire bloodline. Like
there's literally like like mad Saw Navy people just with
with with Ak's on set.

Speaker 2 (59:29):
But Mario's little Greek right, No, it.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Right, I'm mister mister is you have to cut off
a finger, you know what I'm saying. Like you're in
the dailies, mister memo, these ease are you to pay tribute?
You need to cut off your pink you made. That's
not the right, that's not Mario Red. You know what
I'm saying, That's not Princess Peach Pink. We're not playing.

(59:56):
And I love that. I wish Marvel was a bit
more attentive when it came to their properties, because maybe
you can reach this kind of perfection. All that being said,
this is a five out of five. Dude, I would
give it a five point five. I'm giving it a
five point five out of five. I didn't expect to
love this this much. I was extremely surprised and giddy

(01:00:20):
and wanted to just listen to Mario music in my head,
and I wanted to play Mario. I wanted more of
this world. I wanted to see more DK I wanted
to see Star Fox. I wanted to see I want
to see what a Metroid movie looks like. With this
kind of love and attention and you know, to detail,
this is damn near. This is perfection and billion dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Right, billion dollars, and I had not quite I given
it the mantle of best video game property ever made.
But it is a discussion that I've been having in
the back of my head me too few days because
it's that damn good. You know what I mean? So
I do not fault your sentiments whatsoever. As is you

(01:01:03):
always hate member berries for the sake of member berries.
And I thought about that as I was watching this,
and this is not member berries for the sake of
member berries.

Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
It's very carefully articulated. It's not beating you over the head.
You know what you're getting into. It's not forcing them
on you. Hey look the mushroom. Hey no, it's part
of the world. It's in the background. It stands out,
but it's not taking up space. It's also meticulously orchestrated.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
Dude, And it leaves more to the imagination. What other
power ups are floating around out there?

Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
What other creatures are floating out that?

Speaker 1 (01:01:45):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
It's this world tied into the rest. Do the pipes
go anywhere? If I take a pipe, do I end
up in Gannon? Or yeah, Gannon? You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
Starfucks? Can I take it? Hunch out? What are we doing?

Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
I don't know, but it leaves that it's not member
berry's for the sake of member berries. Everything was placed
well to leave us going huh, damn, this could damn interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
You have my and you had you had my curiosity,
now you have my attention. Yeah, okay, live action legers
of Zelda, Let's see what you got. Okay, can we
get anything else of this caliber of perfection? It's this
big shoes are big brown shoes to fill.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
And that's what I said. I don't know if they
can pull it off, you know what I mean. I
have no idea, but if you can pull it off twice,
especially with something like Zelda, and that's a completely separate property,
Live action, you know what, Nintendo at take my t
take my damn money, Take my money.

Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
I'm going to as soon as this episode's over, I'm
going online. I'm gonna find this Vinyl. I want them
Super Mario Bros. Vinyl. I want that Medaling. I just wanted.
This was an excellent episode. Wash. I think we did
this movie justice. I think we were critical where we
needed to be critical, But with movies like this, it's
super hard to find that criticism because it did such

(01:03:14):
a good job of encapsulating in the field and the
spirit of the property. Any final thoughts before we closed
this bad Boy out.

Speaker 2 (01:03:23):
Very very glad I watched it. It was on the
list it was not nearly as enough of a priority,
and this will as I put together like my end
of year best like my list, this is definitely going
to be in the conversation of one of the best
things my eyes have seen this year, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
I concur this was not on my radar whatsoever. This
twenty twenty five would have been another year. I just
didn't watch this movie. I just really didn't have any
desire to see it, knowing it's good, almost being too good.
Sometimes if a movie's too good, are I don't want
to watch it out of spite. I know Hamilton's good,
I don't want to watch Hamilton. It's too good. There's
too much buzz around it. I know Wicked's probably amazing,

(01:04:05):
I just don't feel like watching Wicked. This was in
that boat and being kind of forcing ourselves to watch it.
It's the biggest present. It's like the biggest like nostalgia
nostalgia bomb, and just it makes me excited for the future.
