in just a moment. Welcome everybody. This is Matt Connorton
Unleashed and we are live from the studios of wm
NH ninety five point three FM and Glorious Manchester, New Hampshire.
Today is Saturday, September six, twenty twenty five, and we

(05:32):

program and we've had a great show thus far and
really looking forward to talking with Pulsifier. Let me get
those uh those Mike's on here. Welcome everybody, yea, so
let's see so we have Mia, Chriz Styx and Patrick.

Speaker 12 (05:51):
Yes, all right, very good.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
I'm glad.

Speaker 11 (05:53):
I sometimes it's hard to you know. I talked to
so many people over the course of the show. Sometimes
I don't remember everybody's names accurate. But uh so, I'm
really glad you're all here and and that you made
the drive. You know, obviously you know you're you're from
out of state, so I mean not that Portland is
like another part of the country or anything, but no,
but I do appreciate I appreciate you all coming.

Speaker 12 (06:13):
Down and yeah, thanks for having us.

Speaker 11 (06:15):
And I'm going to get to see you live by
the way at Swarmy Fast, right.

Speaker 7 (06:18):
Yes, yeah, we're very excited about that.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (06:20):
Yeah, that's going to be November fifteenth, actually right across
the street at Jewel.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
Yeah, we just saw it on the way over here.
We just drove by the club Jewel.

Speaker 11 (06:29):
Yes, yes, have you played there before?

Speaker 7 (06:33):
I don't think that we have.

Speaker 12 (06:34):
We have not is this band?

Speaker 11 (06:36):
No, not is this but as a different band? Yeah,
I'm curious what was What was the previous band?

Speaker 13 (06:40):
I was in a band called Render back in the day. Okay, yeah, okay,
we played there with Frank Hannan.

Speaker 11 (06:48):
Frank Hannon, I think I remember. Yeah yeah, okay, yeah, yeah,
oh very cool.

Speaker 12 (06:54):
Now how long?

Speaker 11 (06:54):
So how long has Pulsifier been around? Has Pulsifier have
been around a while or yeah, what a.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
Couple of years now, just a couple of years, still
pretty new. Oh okay, trying to get our music out there?

Speaker 11 (07:03):
Right right? How is that going in Portland? Because Portland's
always had a pretty strong music scene, some good college
stations there and whatnot?

Speaker 7 (07:13):
Ray Yeah actually oh yeah, southern central Maine. I think
a really good live music see lots of good local bands. Yeah,
always something going on.

Speaker 14 (07:23):
Yeah, kind of great bands.

Speaker 11 (07:24):
Yeah, yeah, no doubt. Are are there bands there that
you you know sometimes it happens organically. Are there bands
there that you've kind of unofficially sort of teamed up
with that you play a lot of shows with or
what do you think, Chris?

Speaker 12 (07:36):
Yeah, yeah, there there is a bunch of bands.

Speaker 7 (07:39):
It's a good sense of community. Yeah. Everyone I think
kind of supports each other.

Speaker 11 (07:43):
So that's good.

Speaker 7 (07:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (07:44):
Yeah, like like who, like who are some other bands there.

Speaker 15 (07:47):
That Loki Loki? Yeah, okay, we played with Loki quite
a lot in a band called in the Wind.

Speaker 13 (07:53):
Okay, yeah, band called Echo Ritual, Echo Ritual Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I mean it's a bunch. I mean you feel bad
name it any because you leave a bunch of Yeah,
there's so.

Speaker 7 (08:03):
Many, that's true.

Speaker 11 (08:04):
Yeah, I'm always interested in hearing about bands that we
should that we should know about, not all of them. Yeah,
now is wark right now? Do you have a full
album out or an EP? Or have you just been
releasing singles thus far?

Speaker 7 (08:15):
There's so many different album is coming out? What the
end of this month?

Speaker 11 (08:19):
Oh really? Oh okay, so coming right up.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
Yes, we're very excited to get that out. But yeah,
war I will be one of the songs on there.

Speaker 11 (08:26):
Will this be the first release from Pulsifier as a
as a full album? Yes, okay, okay, excellent, excellent. We're
gonna play in a little bit, uh, the first single
which this will be the world radio premiere for that.
We're very excited. But now, what what went into deciding
to record a full album? Because we live in a
time where you have so many different options as far

(08:48):
as how you release music. You know, the various guests
that we talked to on the show, some some just
do singles, some do EPs, some do albums, Some release
a series of singles that eventually become an album, which
is kind of the inverse of how it used to be.
It used to be you know, you have an album
and then you've got singles from that album. So what
went into your decision as a band to say, let's
let's do a full album.

Speaker 13 (09:07):
Well, the latter is kind of what we did. We
started out doing singles, yeah, and then we were like, hey,
we have enough to put together, let's let's do an
actual physical copy that a lot of people ask for.

Speaker 11 (09:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And so you're actually going to do
physical colleges.

Speaker 7 (09:21):
Yeah, people still ask for that. I was surprised too, Yeah,
but everything, Oh yeah, people want that physical CD has
the artwork and yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (09:28):
I've kind of come to the conclusion that that's an
American phenomenon. And the reason I say that is because
we also, in fact the last segment in the second hour,
we interviewed a band called Brides from the UK, and
we talked to a lot of bands from overseas, and
it seems like everybody, everybody that we talked to from Europe,
they they're like, oh, CDs are dead. You know, we're

(09:50):
just releasing everything digitally. Nobody wants CDs anymore. And here
it's been such a especially I think in the last
five years, maybe ten years, you know, there was a
point where it seemed like CD's were dead here too.
But then but then they've they've made a resurgence, and
Vinyl of course had an even bigger resurgence.

Speaker 12 (10:07):
Say, yeah, yeah, the same idea.

Speaker 13 (10:10):
Yeah, that's why we're making sure that our artwork for
the CD is interesting as well.

Speaker 12 (10:15):
Yeah, more visuals.

Speaker 11 (10:16):
Yeah okay, okay, good good, Yeah, because that's something I
always left like when I was a kid. You know,
you open a CD or an album and you have
the lyrics and art, and if you're really a fan,
you know, you'll go through and look at all the
liner notes and you know you want to you want
to know who their management company is, or who engineered
the album or you know, if you really, if you
really want.

Speaker 12 (10:36):
To geek out on it, you know, so, which I did.

Speaker 11 (10:40):
Yeah, that's great, that's great.

Speaker 12 (10:41):
Yeah. How many?

Speaker 11 (10:42):
So how many tracks on the album?

Speaker 7 (10:44):
I think this one has? Seven?

Speaker 14 (10:46):
Yeah? Seven?

Speaker 11 (10:46):
Seven? Okay, okay.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Our songs are slightly longer than some, so yeah seven fit.

Speaker 11 (10:52):
Okay, okay, Like what's the do you know, offhand? Like,
what's long the longest track on.

Speaker 14 (10:56):
The album six nineteen. It's a venomous thing.

Speaker 11 (10:59):
Venomous thing. Oh yes, So I I played that for
for those listening live. I did play that in the
first hour today to kind of give people a creepy
for because that's my favorite of the of the four
that you sent me.

Speaker 9 (11:09):
That was it?

Speaker 10 (11:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (11:11):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's a great song. I love the
vocals on that. Who so in studio? Who obviously you
know you're the lead singer. Who else is doing the
backing vocals on that? Is that all you? Or are
there other members singing with you?

Speaker 7 (11:23):
They recorded it? Yeah, he had me go back and
add the harmony.

Speaker 11 (11:27):
Yeah, it sounded really good. It sounded really good. Is
that challenging at all? Harmonizing with yourself that way? I've
heard some singers say that can be like it's when
you're it's easy to harmonize with somebody else, but when
it's your own voice that you're listening to, it's challenging
to do this.

Speaker 7 (11:41):
It's really tricky to do it live. Also, well, yeah, so.

Speaker 11 (11:47):
What does happen live? Does everybody sing is it? Does
it become a gang vocal thing or do you just
use carry it yourself?

Speaker 7 (11:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Live?

Speaker 7 (11:53):
Yeah, just do the main vocal part.

Speaker 11 (11:54):
Yeah, yeah, no, that's cool. So how did Pulsifier come together.
You know, you mentioned a band that that used to
be on Chris, But but how did how did the
four of you because again, you know, Portland is such
a great scene there. There's musicians everywhere, Like, how did
the four of you coalesce to form this this unit?

Speaker 13 (12:12):
What was kind of the well I was, I was
in a I was in a band called Signal to
Noise for a while. I remember Signal to Noise still
out there, they're still killing it.

Speaker 12 (12:19):
Yeah, yeah, okay, So so it was it was a
deal where some of.

Speaker 13 (12:24):
My music wasn't being brought to the front. Yeah, and
my ladies like I can write with songs, so any
riffs that.

Speaker 7 (12:32):
They didn't use the opportunity to write.

Speaker 11 (12:35):
So so you had ideas, but you know, it kind
of was it kind of a crowded situation where you've
got you've got the people who write, and they don't
kind of want to necessarily share that.

Speaker 12 (12:45):
That's right.

Speaker 13 (12:45):
Yeah, And and and so we would me and Mia
would set by the campfire and would write these songs, and.

Speaker 12 (12:51):
Uh, and we were like what are we doing. We
gotta we gotta do our own comes up.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
With these guitar riffs that I can just feel what
he's feeling and inspire me. And I had been writing
poetry and stuff previously, so I thought I can write
words for this and.

Speaker 13 (13:06):
Yeah, okay, yeah, and then we we looked for a
while to get the you get these guys to jump
on with us, and you know, the right the right
fit is super important.

Speaker 12 (13:17):
The chemistry has to be right.

Speaker 13 (13:18):
Yeah, yeah, because I really I built this band from
second one to be a band, to be on a bus,
to be touring constantly, so you know, not only musicians,
but the chemistry, the thing had to be right.

Speaker 7 (13:32):
Yeah, like a family. Yeah, because we're all living together.
When we were on the bus, when we're on the road.

Speaker 11 (13:37):
So yeah, yeah, I think I had a phone conversation
with you all once I don't know if you remember,
and and you were about about about radio stuff and
then and I think you were you were on your
way to a show or something.

Speaker 7 (13:52):
I remember that again because we were on the bus.

Speaker 12 (13:54):
Yeah, speak ye, that's right.

Speaker 11 (13:57):
So how how far have you have you gone as
far as story and like, where have you gone outside
of outside of the area.

Speaker 12 (14:03):
Patrick can tell us that, Okay.

Speaker 15 (14:05):
Yeah, we've we've gone through the whole country, you know.
Our first tour was with Annville last year. That was
I believe, uh feb you were no, No, that was
all that was summer. That was August last year. And yeah,
we did the whole East coast and they drove over
to Texas and did Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, went

(14:26):
up to Washington and then back across. We hit like
Detroit and Chicago and stuff and Ohio and Cleveland. So
we really did the entire perimeter of the country and
some of the stuff in the middle too. Wow, twenty
six shows. That was a good one.

Speaker 16 (14:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (14:39):
And the second tour was out in kind of like
that was our our February tour of this year, and
that was with Smile, Empty Soul and Tantrick and.

Speaker 14 (14:47):
Oh wow, yeah it was amazing.

Speaker 15 (14:49):
Yeah, there was our great guys, all of them, and
uh yeah, that was like Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas
area and uh did another one with Anvil that was
most the East coast right after that.

Speaker 11 (15:01):
That must have been fun.

Speaker 12 (15:03):
It's a blast, yeah.

Speaker 13 (15:04):
Yeah, and both those guys are legendary. Yeah, always in
the one oh yeah, yeah, they treated us way better
than they had.

Speaker 11 (15:13):
Ye oh.

Speaker 12 (15:13):
That's cool.

Speaker 11 (15:14):
That's excellent. Well, I think we should uh so what
should we know about this? About the new track? This
is going to be the first single from the album
correct Barriers Within the.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
Yes, So, this song was inspired by a Roomy quote
which says, your task is not to seek for love,
but merely to seek and find all the barriers within
yourself that you have built against it. Okay, the words
to this song were inspired by that quote.

Speaker 11 (15:45):
Oh, excellent, excellent, all right, So we're gonna play this
and again. This is the world radio premiere of this track.
All right, all right, Barriers Within from Pulsifier.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
You are listening to t Wuminah.

Speaker 12 (15:59):
World premiere.

Speaker 17 (16:08):
Your tasks not to seek for love, merely to seek
and find all the barriers within yourself that you have
built against it.

Speaker 10 (16:20):
Speaking for barriers.

Speaker 18 (16:41):
Built within that you bus up far render five years

of the past game starting over when it falls apart,

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Somethday.

Speaker 19 (20:35):
There.

Speaker 11 (21:41):
It is the world radio premiere the new track from
Pulsifier from the upcoming album that is called Barriers Within.
I love it. That's very cool, very cool. Yeah, great job,
great job. Absolutely So when's the album out? You probably
mentioned it, but I do we have.

Speaker 7 (21:58):
An exact dat or are we just don't? End of
this month?

Speaker 12 (22:01):
The first single is going to be like the first
weekend of October. Okay, yeah, gotcha, gotcha?

Speaker 11 (22:08):
And then oh so the first single yeah, and then
and so you don't have it for me? Et a
on the album yet.

Speaker 12 (22:13):
Above the same time, we're going to at least the
whole thing.

Speaker 11 (22:16):
Yeah, any videos, if if you, if you all made
any videos for these for any of these songs, because
because the music, I mean, there's there's an element of
I don't know if theatricality is quite the word, but but.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
That's definitely a good word.

Speaker 11 (22:29):
It seems like it seems like these songs would would
lend themselves to that.

Speaker 7 (22:33):
Definitely. I agree. Yeah, I like the theatrics.

Speaker 13 (22:36):
Yeah, everything kind of in order. We haven't quite got there.
We have a lyric video for for a Venomous Thing,
but we've down a full video yet.

Speaker 7 (22:45):
Yeah, but the plans we definitely will you're going.

Speaker 11 (22:48):
To do okay? Yeah, Okay, now that makes sense.

Speaker 15 (22:52):
It's kind of like a three step process where or
we we've been advised to kind of do like a
short teaser video as we're coming up to releasing the
song before we release it, and then maybe a little later,
do a lyric video for Barriers for the same song
Barriers within Yeah, and then a little after that do

(23:13):
the full music video.

Speaker 11 (23:15):
Okay, okay, and then what's what's the live show? Like,
I mean, are there any I get I guess uh.

Speaker 12 (23:21):
Theatrics was you said?

Speaker 7 (23:23):
Yes, we definitely try to incorporate a lot of visual
so there's something for people to watch.

Speaker 12 (23:29):
Get right up on that.

Speaker 7 (23:29):
Okay, can you hear me?

Speaker 10 (23:30):
Now?

Speaker 11 (23:31):
You can pull it closer to you if it's easier,
that's fine too.

Speaker 12 (23:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (23:33):
I just want to make sure we try.

Speaker 7 (23:34):
To incorporate a lot of visual so people can you know,
it helps to tell the story, yeah, goes along with
the lyrics. So yeah, there's definitely some props involved.

Speaker 11 (23:43):
Okay, okay, have you seen any videos of our live performances.

Speaker 12 (23:47):
No, we have a ton on YouTube.

Speaker 14 (23:49):
We have like two hundred videos on YouTube. Oh my god,
you can see what we're all about.

Speaker 12 (23:53):
Oh, that's cool.

Speaker 7 (23:54):
And each song, each song has its own feel, each
song tells its own story. Yeah, so there as props,
there's visuals, there's stuff going on that that kind of
recreate that and add to it, and we're hoping, yeah,
that the audience will feel just immersed around it and
a part of it.

Speaker 12 (24:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (24:12):
A lot of these topics for these songs are not
the norm, so it's it's it's nice to have the
visuals to help explain you.

Speaker 7 (24:22):
So the horse Head with war cry, like there's a meeting.
It's not just about the horse head. That song, you know,
was inspired by researching Alexander the Great's war horse, uciphilis
really Yeah, if you ever look up the story of bucyphilis.
He was afraid of his own shadow, and Alexander the

(24:42):
Great learned if you turn him away from his shadow,
turn his head to the sun, he became this great warrior. Yeah,
and we just thought, you know, we could all apply
that to our lives. Turn away from your own darkness.

Speaker 11 (24:55):
And interesting look to the light.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
So yeah, there's different props that represent stuff like that.

Speaker 11 (25:01):
Okay, okay, that's cool. What are some of the other
lyrical themes that show up in these songs?

Speaker 7 (25:07):
Well, for example, distracted Gaze, the props for that are chains. Yeah,
that's the song about anyone who's ever struggled, or who
has known someone who has struggled, breaking free from the
chains of addiction, whatever that addiction may be.

Speaker 11 (25:24):
That's relatable for a lot of people.

Speaker 7 (25:25):
Yeah, we always hope that with our songs. Yeah, there'll
be something somebody can relate to and we'll have lived
through themselves.

Speaker 12 (25:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (25:33):
Yeah, does it ever happen? Where does anyone ever approach
you and say, hey, that that song.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
Really after some of our lives shows, people have come up,
and that is actually the best feeling, the best feedback
when someone comes up. Sometimes after Scars, I've had people
come up and share their own very like private personal
stories of what they have gone through too and how
the music has helped them not to feel so alone.

Speaker 13 (26:01):
Distracted gaze as well. Yeah really, Yeah, she's had to
like spend moments with people like like they won't really.

Speaker 7 (26:07):
They open up, but share these yeah, like personally and
we kind of have that connection which is so special, which.

Speaker 12 (26:13):
Is what we're looking for.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yeah, kept in touch. There's a few people, yeah,
who want to keep in touch and we still talk through.

Speaker 11 (26:22):
Some things and oh that's excellent.

Speaker 12 (26:24):
Yeah yeah it's great. Yeah, yeah, very good, very good.

Speaker 11 (26:27):
Well we should play maybe we should play that one scars.
Should we give that a listen?

Speaker 12 (26:31):
Sure, that'd be great.

Speaker 11 (26:32):
We'll make that the next one. Yeah, here it is, yeah,
this this all. Yeah, this is a great track. This
is a great track. If you're just joining us. We
have Pulsifier here with us alive in studio and uh,
we're gonna play this. This is on the upcoming album too.
I assume I assume these all are it is.

Speaker 12 (26:47):
Yes, did we by the way, what's the name of
the album or did you say or do we haven't?

Speaker 7 (26:50):
We haven't.

Speaker 12 (26:51):
Yeah, we'll go to say for the first time.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
We could live a damn drink break the class change.

Speaker 11 (36:06):
That is glass Cage. The band is Pulsifier and that
is gonna be on the upcoming album. And what's it
called the end?

Speaker 7 (36:13):
Personas personas?

Speaker 11 (36:14):
Yes, I love it. That is that is really good.
It's really good. Gets you move in, gets you move in.
And we also heard Scars before that too, another great track.
And uh, we got one more that we're gonna say
for the end. But so we were talking off air
while I was playing, and Chris, you were commenting and
this is something I noticed. So I'm glad you reminded
me because I wanted to ask about this. When you're

(36:37):
when you're soloing, you know there's not a second guitar
track underneath. That's right, and which is an interesting decision
because that's that's not what a lot of bands do,
although some bands do that. But but can can you explain, uh,
because you were explaining it off air and this was
interesting to me why you make that choice.

Speaker 13 (36:54):
Yeah, it just allows the uh, the fantastic bass plane
of Patrick to show through where it should. Yeah, you know,
we want to make sure that's heard, you know, not
only in the in the soulos, but through the songs
as well. Yeah, and we did two or three passes
for some of these songs, like hey, can you turn
up the base a little bit more on this recording? Yeah,
we want to make sure that it's there, and we

(37:15):
want to make sure it's kind of like it simulates
live sound.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (37:22):
Yeah, that's what we sound like.

Speaker 11 (37:23):
As a bass player myself. I commend you for that
because because we we bass players don't get the respect
we deserve.

Speaker 14 (37:29):
Right, friends now we're friends now, Yes.

Speaker 12 (37:31):
Yes, Patrick gets it, don't you worry. No, that's good.

Speaker 11 (37:35):
That's good.

Speaker 12 (37:36):
And then so when you do is that is that
the case with all those songs?

Speaker 7 (37:42):
Like do you use it?

Speaker 11 (37:44):
So you don't use the second guitar track on anything? No, wow, okay, interesting, Okay, No,
that's cool. Yeah, No, I like that and it does. Yeah,
it does. Let the whole rhythm section kind of come through,
which was it Scars too. There's like, uh, there's a
solo you do toward the end. Was the Scars or
wasn't the one we played before that where it's like
you kind of don't see it coming, like all of

(38:04):
a sudden, you're playing and it's like, oh, I didn't
expect a solo there.

Speaker 14 (38:07):
Yeah, those barriers, Yeah, well it might have been.

Speaker 11 (38:10):
It probably was. Yeah, Actually it feels like yeah, And
I was like and I was like, oh, that's cool.
Oh it must have been barriers because I hadn't heard
that before now. Yeah, and so because the other ones
I'd already listened to, and I was kind of like,
oh but I like that. I like these, you know,
it fits, but it's still kind of a surprise. It's like, oh,
that solo kind of sneaks.

Speaker 12 (38:26):
Up on you.

Speaker 3 (38:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (38:27):
That whole breakdown section is the part that Patrick had written. Okay,
then I kind of played over the top of it. Yeah,
you know, like, hey, what was that bass riff? Just
play it on the guitar and play sol over it.

Speaker 12 (38:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like that. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (38:41):
I'm kind of curious too about some of your influences
as far as vocals, like who who did you listen
to growing up? Or who do you listen to now?

Speaker 12 (38:48):
And who who?

Speaker 7 (38:50):
Kind of like so many but yeah, we were talking
about that where we all came from different backgrounds before
we all got together. I was actually from a theater
background before teaming up with these guys, so musical theater
and community theater stuff like that since I was a kid.

Speaker 11 (39:07):
Yeah, So is that is that how you learn to
sing basically and the way that you do.

Speaker 7 (39:12):
I used to say, I'm not necessarily a singer. I'm
an actress. I can act like I can sing, and
you know, lots of karaoke nights. Yeah, And I would
say what I lack and talent I make up for
with enthusiasm.

Speaker 11 (39:28):
But you so you didn't have any vocal any formal
training as far as working with a vocal coach or anything.

Speaker 7 (39:33):
Not formal training now, you know, just yeah just for fun, Yeah,
singing along with the radio, karaoke nights stuff like that.

Speaker 18 (39:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (39:40):
Is there anyone who kind of inspires you in terms
of how they sing, Like I see. I hope this
isn't too cliche, but I hear a little bit of
Ann Wilson, all right, thank you?

Speaker 7 (39:50):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's a huge compliment. Yep, she's amazing,
Amy Lee with an essence love them yeah yeah, grew
up yeah in the nineties with that, like that's a
huge influence.

Speaker 11 (40:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:06):
Alanis Morissette is such a good storyteller. Yes, yeah, just
a lot. Yeah.

Speaker 11 (40:13):
And then so so who who are the primary writers?

Speaker 12 (40:15):
So is that the two of you?

Speaker 13 (40:16):
Is it?

Speaker 12 (40:17):
Well?

Speaker 11 (40:17):
As far as music, and.

Speaker 12 (40:18):
We all definitely do our own parts, has their own part.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:22):
I write the words and sing them, yeah, Chris does
the guitar riffs, Jay on drums, Patrick on bass, and
we all you know, when we come together, it just
grows into something new.

Speaker 12 (40:32):
Yeah. Right, it's no fun having one guy dictate everything. Yeah.
I want to be inspired by the other guys in
the room, people in the room.

Speaker 13 (40:39):
So I want everybody to do their own thing well
as much as possible. Everybody has ideas.

Speaker 11 (40:44):
Oh yeah, well certainly, and again there's part of my
bass by bias as a bass player. But you know,
but but certainly it does sound like the rhythm section
has a lot to do with how these songs. Oh yeah,
flesh out because you know, both the bass and the drums.
I mean, you can really hear everything comes through and
uh and it is definitely a part of the Pulsifier sound.

Speaker 13 (41:06):
Absolutely, Yeah, everybody playing off each other. You can hear
like the bass does follows the drums or back and
forth or whatever. Everybody's kind of Oh that's a cool part.
Let me see if I can accent that. A lot
of lot to feel that way.

Speaker 11 (41:20):
Where does the name come from, by the way, Pulsifier
Who came up with the name?

Speaker 12 (41:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (41:24):
Yeah, yeah, it has meaning, though, do you want to
explain it early?

Speaker 12 (41:28):
You can.

Speaker 7 (41:32):
The idea behind it was, you know that inspiration comes
from not from just us personally, but from all around us. Yeah,
and we take that inspiration and use it to make
something new. You know, it passes through us as a
band that we can share with everyone else as something different.

Speaker 11 (41:51):
Yeah that makes sense.

Speaker 13 (41:52):
Yea, the vibrational pulse, right right, so we add our
own spin on the vibe and send it back out.

Speaker 12 (41:58):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 11 (41:59):
And then the name of the album, Personas. Where where
does that name come from? Personas?

Speaker 13 (42:04):
Oh, that's just it's that is because every song is
kind of like it's kind of a each character of
someone's personality. You know, like if you go to work,
you have one persona. If you want to rock stage,
you're on another persona.

Speaker 12 (42:18):
And that's what this album is like. It's all these.

Speaker 13 (42:20):
Songs are are kind of like a journey of growth, Yeah,
with different characters and different shadows that you.

Speaker 28 (42:28):
Have to deal with the warrior, the lover, the the child,
the animal. Yeah then yeah, ye shadow all of it.

Speaker 11 (42:39):
Yeah, No, that's uh, that's cool. When you when you
play live, Uh, do you do you have any material
that you haven't recorded that is part of your live set,
because it sounds like you got a lot of ideas.
You probably have lots songs I haven't recorded yet, right.

Speaker 12 (42:54):
Yeah, we have way too many songs, and really it's.

Speaker 15 (42:58):
Hard to decide which songs to put on the album
because like in my opinion, and I think in all
of our opinions, every single song is a banger, like
they can all be the single. None of them are filler. Yeah,
so it was like almost a shame only doing seven songs.

Speaker 7 (43:13):
It's a good.

Speaker 11 (43:13):
Problem to have, but yeah, it's like, I mean, how
do you even decide when you've got I mean hard Yeah.

Speaker 7 (43:19):
Like which ones do we leave out? We don't want
to leave any of them out. I want them all
out there.

Speaker 12 (43:23):
How many songs do you have?

Speaker 11 (43:25):
Can you put a number on it? Like as a
band originals?

Speaker 7 (43:30):
How many do you think now finished?

Speaker 13 (43:32):
So I actually we actually try to prioritize and not
like completely finish the song and we live it. We
give it plenty of times to grow. There's many songs
we jam we are constantly jamming on. We have one
called Eye of the Storm. It's been something we've been
We've been just messing with that for months now. It's
just slowly growing.

Speaker 12 (43:53):
It has to give. You have to give it time.
You have to time to grow.

Speaker 14 (43:57):
It's like simmering in the pot.

Speaker 12 (43:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (44:00):
Yeah, we came up with a new part on that
song just a couple of weeks ago. It was it
was like, oh, there we go, that's what we were
looking forwards.

Speaker 12 (44:05):
Yeah, it's great. Yeah, where did did we talk about?

Speaker 7 (44:09):
Where you recorded?

Speaker 12 (44:10):
Where?

Speaker 11 (44:11):
Where? Where did you've recorded these? Because everything Halo Studio?

Speaker 7 (44:15):
Okay, John Wyman.

Speaker 11 (44:16):
Yeah, okay, I want to make sure everything sounds so good.
So we want to make sure Okay, so tell me.
So I don't know about John Wyman. Tell me about him.

Speaker 12 (44:24):
The halo is is world famous or infamous?

Speaker 13 (44:27):
Oh yeah, yeah, and yeah he's uh, he's done some
done some pretty incredible stuff, especially with the local scene.

Speaker 12 (44:35):
But he's also also on National Guy. You know, I
don't want to misspeak. I don't. I can't say for sure.
Some of the Nationalists done, but he's done.

Speaker 8 (44:43):
You know.

Speaker 13 (44:44):
I think the last one is big thing he did
was pretty reckless stuff. I'm not okay, yeah, okay, So
he's in Portland or is he?

Speaker 11 (44:51):
Where is he?

Speaker 12 (44:53):
Yeah? Non descript, undisclosed building.

Speaker 7 (44:56):
Yeah, it looks like from the outside you not expect
what's on the inside. I love that.

Speaker 12 (45:03):
Yeah, what a cool spot. Wow. Yeah, the guy is amazing.

Speaker 11 (45:08):
And how did you come to work with him? How
did that come about? Because because he's obviously a big you.

Speaker 12 (45:12):
Know, yeah, it bled over from from my previous band
that I would I would call it there. Yeah, okay,
oh cool, and I just knew that I'm not going
to go anywhere else. That's the place to go.

Speaker 7 (45:22):
Yeah. Yeah, actually, yeah, it's such a good ear for details.

Speaker 11 (45:27):
Does he does he kind of become like you know,
because obviously every producer has their own style. Everyone's different,
everyone kind of has their own approach. Does he become
like like that, like a fifth member of the band.

Speaker 12 (45:38):
Or he did, Yeah, yeah, he was.

Speaker 25 (45:41):
He was.

Speaker 12 (45:43):
Talking about doing the harmonies for for Scars.

Speaker 7 (45:49):
Yeah. He gets excited and then you know, are like,
we're onto something.

Speaker 13 (45:52):
Like yeah, she's been doing her vocal stuff. And after
you take he spins around. He's like, did you guys
hear that?

Speaker 12 (45:57):
Yeah? That was that was fantastic. Let me bring out
my little player and show you the fists.

Speaker 7 (46:04):
Oh no, kidd yeah yeah, and he'll play something.

Speaker 12 (46:07):
Very creative, so he gets the juices flowing as well.

Speaker 7 (46:10):
Brilliant.

Speaker 15 (46:11):
Yeah, and he has the most incredible ear too, Like
your guitar could be out of tune by one cent
and they'll be like, oh no, tune up and you're like,
what do you mean, Like it's imperfect to know it's not.

Speaker 13 (46:22):
We're playing the live track and he's like, Patrick, your
d string is off, it's flat. Yeah, I'm like, okay,
not according to the tuner it's not.

Speaker 7 (46:32):
But you're on you yeah yeah, yeah, he gets the
best out of you.

Speaker 11 (46:37):
Yeah, that's what it takes. It's but it's also good
to you, good, good for you. It speaks you know,
you're obviously mature as a band to be able to
work with someone like because some people can't work with
a producer like that, you know what I mean. Some
people get resentful. They feel like, Oh, this guy's trying
to take over what I'm doing, you know what I mean.
So for you to be able to go in and

(46:57):
be open, you know, not everyone can.

Speaker 7 (47:00):
We go to him. We want that.

Speaker 13 (47:01):
Yeah, you've gotta be careful not to be too attached
to your own ideas.

Speaker 12 (47:05):
It prevents growth and thought. You just have to go
with that.

Speaker 7 (47:08):
But he lets us try too. That's another thing.

Speaker 25 (47:10):
I like.

Speaker 7 (47:10):
I'll be like, can I just try it? I go
be like, this is gonna sound really weird. Can I
just try something? Yeah, And I'll be like, and then
give me your feedback. If you don't like it, we'll
cut it, take it. Lets me try stuff.

Speaker 11 (47:22):
I'm really glad I moved that filter. He sounds so
much better.

Speaker 7 (47:26):
Let's start over.

Speaker 11 (47:27):
Yeah, but if you are just joining us, we have
Pulsifier here with us alive in studio, and so what's
kind of the do you know what the sort of
the long term plan is, so the album will be
out probably October, like what's kind of about October? And
then you're gonna be hitting the road again or then.

Speaker 7 (47:46):
We are hitting the road again for another national tour.
This one's called October.

Speaker 15 (47:51):
Okay, Scottie Austin from Saving Abel.

Speaker 11 (47:55):
Oh okay, yeah, yeah, okay, So so tell us about this.
Is this like a is it like a package tour,
a festival or what like.

Speaker 13 (48:01):
What it's kind of a mixture, Yeah, he is. He
is making a big push for one of one of
his songs. So he has kind of like handpicked his
favorite spots that he's played over the years, and so
this is gonna be like this ought to be a
pretty interesting tour.

Speaker 11 (48:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (48:18):
Yeah. Do you have a lot of support?

Speaker 7 (48:20):
And he's wild. He's so fun to watch live. Yeah,
a lot of fun, very entertaining.

Speaker 12 (48:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (48:26):
We just did a show with him in Ohio and
we were just standing out watching and he just looked
at it.

Speaker 12 (48:32):
He's like, you guys are coming up with us.

Speaker 7 (48:35):
Oh, that's very cool. Yeah, we had to run up,
but we're in that half pipe we're in there's a
skate park. The stage was on the top of the
half pipe, so he's like, come on up here, guys,
and we like ran up the pipe, jumped on stage.

Speaker 12 (48:52):
He's quite his character and great entertainer. Yeah, oh very cool.
Are you on the full tour?

Speaker 11 (48:58):
Are you doing the whole run with him or doing
over on the whole way? Excellent?

Speaker 13 (49:02):
We actually have We actually have three more after that
before April, three more tours, so we're.

Speaker 12 (49:08):
Going to be busy through the yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (49:10):
And after that we want to flip the script. We
want to be on the other side of of the
you know, instead of direct support. We want to see
if we can what we can do as far as
headlining a small club tour.

Speaker 12 (49:21):
Yeah, we're just kind of feeling it out. Yeah, what
we can do.

Speaker 11 (49:25):
Yeah, so you're on the right path. Are you on
a label by the way, as far as the album
itself that's going to be coming out or is that
all DI I Y or how are you doing that?
Because there's so many like we were talking about earlier,
there's so many ways to release music now, there's so
many ways to.

Speaker 13 (49:38):
Yeah, this this management, but there's no it's it would
still technically independent. Yeah, it protects us the best.

Speaker 11 (49:45):
Yeah, yeah, it does absolutely does.

Speaker 13 (49:48):
There's no reason. You know, a lot of time, you know,
you hear it over and over, there's no reason to
have a label. I'm sure labels will disagree, and I'm
sure that they can get you out there. But there's
a there's always a back and forth, there's always a
you always pay for one one way or another.

Speaker 11 (50:02):
It's always a risk too, because you know a label.
You know, they might come along and offer you a
bunch of you know, big advance for your album or whatever,
and that kind and the cash infusion is great, it
can be, and they might you know, they might make
you famous. They also might have you record an album
and then say we've changed our mind and shelve your
album that you've worked on and you can't heartbreak and

(50:24):
you can't do anything with it.

Speaker 13 (50:25):
I mean, oh yeah, hey there's a there's already a
hard rock album out. We're going to hold yours off
until that runs its course.

Speaker 12 (50:32):
Yeah, a lot to it.

Speaker 11 (50:35):
There's so much that can go wrong. Yeah, and I'm
not saying, you know, I mean, obviously, if the right
deal came along, you know you'd consider it, right, but absolutely, yeah,
But but you're being smart about it, you know, And
and we live in a time where you don't have
to wait for the right deal. You can just go
make your own you know, go make your own way.
And and so I think you're on a great path.

Speaker 12 (50:54):
I think you're Yeah.

Speaker 13 (50:55):
I mean it comes to a point where in order
to do some of the bigger things you have to
be on the lead. We're not quite there yet, so
we're not worried about it.

Speaker 12 (51:02):
Yeah, yeah, no, I think so. Until then, we're gonna
drive our own ship a little bit longer.

Speaker 11 (51:06):
There you go, there you go. No, I think that's
the right approach, absolutely.

Speaker 16 (51:11):
So.

Speaker 11 (51:11):
And then we should remind people too about Swarmy Fest
coming out, Yeah, November fifteenth, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (51:17):
Yes, November fifteenth, Swarmy Fast. Sounds like it's going to
be amazing. Has the band Sepsis, Yeah, and a bunch
of other bands and acts and performers.

Speaker 11 (51:27):
Silent Season is now co headlining with Sepsis, which is cool.
We had them on recently and uh yeah, they're they're great.

Speaker 7 (51:34):
We're very excited to be part of it.

Speaker 11 (51:36):
Yeah wait, yeah, yeah, right across the street at Jewel
and this show Matt Conderton Unleashed. We're one of the
sponsors this will be our third year.

Speaker 12 (51:44):
Very cool.

Speaker 11 (51:45):
Yeah, yeah, so we'll be there, Jenny and I will
be there, so yeah, really really looking forward to that.

Speaker 12 (51:50):
So yeah, that'll be fun.

Speaker 7 (51:51):
Yeah, we can't wait.

Speaker 14 (51:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (51:52):
We've been trying to play with Sepsis for a little while,
but we've had opportunities, but there's always just been you know,
a wrench in the plans with timing.

Speaker 7 (51:59):
Yeah, yeah, kind of coordinate, Yeah, who's free when? So yeah,
we're very excited to team up with them and everyone
who's part of it. Yeah yeah, and everyone who comes out. Yeah,
it's like, come on out and party with us. We're
gonna have fun.

Speaker 11 (52:11):
Absolutely, absolutely, Well, the time goes quickly. We are approaching
the top of the hour, and I want to make
sure that we can get this last song in because
we are going to play in a moment. We're gonna
play Venomous Thing. Okay, So I need to know is
there a story?

Speaker 7 (52:26):
Like what is a story behind everything?

Speaker 11 (52:28):
I need to know, especially this one because like I said,
this one's my favorite.

Speaker 7 (52:31):
Yes, there's a story behind every song that we do.
So for this one, for Venomous Thing, like we talked about,
it was actually the first single that we released and
this song is really for anyone who's ever dealt with
any type of toxic relationship or codependent relationship, and it's

(52:52):
really about kind of looking at that whole relationship but
also looking at yourself, like self reflection. And you know
what part did I play? And like with most of
our songs, it's you know, the the underlying element is
also about becoming stronger and healing and just personal growth.

Speaker 11 (53:10):
Yeah, okay, okay, very good. I like the positive message
and all of that, so, which seems to be a
theme in your music. So I think that's amazing it is, yes,
And also so before we play that, before we finish up,
one other thing, where's the best place for people to
go online? Where should people go online? To keep up
with everything Pulsifier is doing.
