Speaker 1 (00:00):
An assignment for you.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Please go tell the people of Tassas that they need
to repent and come back to meet Jonah.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
And I'm not leadership, I leadership. So you know what
did it?
Speaker 2 (00:11):
He went to the other side, you know, And I'm
going to talk to someone you who are leaders and
you are running away from that leadership thing. So I
encourage you maybe if you don't switch the thing now,
I'm coming for you.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
This is also for you that there are people who.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Have been called designed prepared for leadership, but like Jonah,
they run away because they see.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
It leading is good.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
But when tough times come, how do I still effectively lead?
Speaker 1 (00:38):
So what did Jonah do?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Jonah gets into a boat and this ship or this
boat suddenly in the middle of the ocean, it begins
to experience some problems. But to bastok and people come
from China, mall or whatever. They had to take off
their log you know, because of a leader who's running away,
you know. And of course you know the ultimate story
(01:00):
where that to kick him out, and God prepared a
whale to swallow Jonah for three days. God had to
give him a crash course on leadership, and then the
whale spew him out go Nineva, and he assumed his
leadership responsibility. Let's start in some thirty four verse nineteen.
(01:20):
Brother Ray David, a leader, says something powerful. He says,
many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will
deliver us out of all of them. He didn't say few,
he says many are the afflictions of the righteous. In
other words, as a leader, or a potential leader, or
(01:43):
an imaging leader, or a leader who's still following, let
us be clear that you and I are not going
to be exempt from afflictions from troubles. People ask, well,
that them what really is an affliction? And affliction is
a state of pain, distress, grief, or misery. Affliction can
(02:08):
cause a mental or bodily pain, and affliction can mean
sometimes a loss or persecution.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
So David, as a leader, knew what he was talking about.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
And I'm here to encourage people today as a leader
that the greatest challenge in leadership are you ready for this?
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Is to lead yourself.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
The most difficult thing to do in life is to
lead yourself. We call it self leadership or self management.
It's easy to lead other people. There are certain people
who are anointed to be critics, you know, not just
to be critical of everything, but that anointing and that
God has a sense of humor. You criticize me, and
then one day God says, Okay, now I have located you.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
You're actually going to be a leader.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
And then he reminds us that even as we lead,
do we understand that many are the afflictions. There will
be a lot of pain, a lot of setbacks, a
lot of disappointment.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
But what I like in that scripture.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Is the this chunction, that that thing that says bad,
but the Lord will deiver us out of all of them.
So some of us are running away from leadership high
not chief. I'm not supposed to lead. I will finance
the kingdom of God, and I'm supposed to lead. I'm
the second in charge. Now I'm not supposed to like
to be behind the scenes. You've heard people say something
(03:28):
like this, and for me, I've experiences. Remember, I work
with corporates, I work with various government departments, I work
with entrepreneurs, I work with NPOs, non profit organizations. I
even work with FBOs faith based organizations. But whatever it is,
(03:48):
if you're not a leader, now you're being prepared to
become a leader because God never created a follower. I repeat,
God never created a follower. Well, that development just a
has wife. You are leading in that house. Well I'm
a single mother. You are leading that child. Well, you know,
no excuses. All of us were born to lead. But again,
(04:09):
the most difficult person to lead is yourself.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Go ahead, brother, Ray, and you've got some couple of questions.
Let's go for it.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Let's look at the first question. Yes, sir, what is leadership?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Well, the different interpretations or different definitions for me, I'm
going to use three. One is from my mentor John Maxwell.
He says leadership is influence, nothing more and nothing less.
That means all of us, as human beings, we have
the ability to influence. The question is do you influence
(04:50):
positively or.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Do you influence negatively?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
It's it, but you're a leader. So leadership is about influence.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
You have the power even just waking up in the morning,
your influence in your moment the people you're going to
reach positively or negatively. That's the first definition. The other
two are my definitions. Here's second definition of leadership. An
effective leader is the one that will identify tomorrow's problems
(05:19):
and solve them today. You identify tomorrow's problems, you serve
them today. That's leadership. In other words, you are proactive.
You've got the hindsight, you've got the insight, and all
the site we're talking about. But the third definition is
not only leadership, is influence. Leadership is the ability to
(05:39):
identify tomorrow's problems solving them today.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Here's the third definition of leadership.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
According to me, an effective leader is the one that
will identify people with potential. Notice I never set people
with degrees or people with experience. The way I use
is people with potential. So that is why I say
you can't run away from leadership because all of us
have the potential to grow, to develop, to experience, self muster.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
All of us have that ability.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
So a good leader is the one that to identify
people with potential.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
What do you do with those people? You enable?
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Equip empower them with squeals so that they can be
better than you. That means as a leader, you must
be a secure leader, because the most dangerous person is
an insecure leader.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Because as a leader, you need to understand there'll.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Be people who are smarter than you, people who have
more power than you, more prestigio than you. So that
is leadership. But let's talk about then what does a
leader do? A leader number one is a vision caster.
In other words, a leader must cast vision. A leader
(06:54):
must give direction. The Bible is clear, without a vision,
people perish. So if the Bible is right, then David
is right. With a vision, people flourish. The Bible says
without a vision, you perish. David said, with a vision,
(07:14):
you flourish. So the number one aspect of leadership is
you must be able to cast a vision. You give direction.
In other words, the people you lead must know where
are they heading. Here's a powerful statement. If you are
a leader, brother Ray, and no one is following you,
(07:34):
you're not leading.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
You're just throlling. You're taking a walk. You can't say
you're leading you no one is following you, you're taking
a walk. What's the all available?
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
So therefore leadership is that you must be able to
give direction to people, to tell them where are you heading?
Because if people do not have directions, what do they do?
They wonder in what? In different directions?
Speaker 1 (07:57):
You know?
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Because a vision not as a vision do. When you
cast that vision, it unifies people. People begin now to
start working for the interests of the organization, whether it
is a corporate government, whether it is a small medium enterprise,
an NPO at a church or whatever. Okay, how about
for a vision, and then here's a beautiful part of
the people.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Have a vision. Then the jealousy and the rivalries they don't.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Happen there because you know exactly the most spunning we
came to work and this is our vision, and these
are the values that underpin and this is our mission statement.
So in other words, I'm still on number one that
a leader must cast vision. But it must not long
just be a vision. The vision must be clear, and
(08:43):
it must be compelling. In other words, you know compelling
or you know this is a vision. Then let me
talk about the vision here I can our organization. Our
vision is simple, raising leaders, impacting nations. It's clear, it's compelling.
I need not empire. Our vision is to touch the
(09:05):
devil goes straight to heaven.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
You know it's to me. You know it might.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
So a leader must be able number one to want
to cast a vision. Number two, a leader must be
an empowerer. In other words, your duty as a leader
is not to control the people, is to empower the
people is to empower the team so that they can
(09:30):
do what they're supposed to do. Sometimes, if leaders do
not trust in themselves and the abilities, if they get
easily threatened by the people they lead, they don't empower them.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
They'll tell you it's on a need to know basis
our chief.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
If it's not, they need to know basis you know,
So how do you want me to do my work?
Because some leaders they like to macro manage people because
that way they feel like they're in control, you know.
And if you macro manage people, it demoralizes them and
it demotivates them. So good leaders they have the ability
(10:08):
to empower their people. How do you empower people? First
of all, you gain their trust. And here's the heavy stuff.
You delegate tusts to them. But you can never delegate
a task until you are sure that you are trusted
that person is trusted. So trust is very key in that. Okay,
(10:30):
So again I'm emphasizing. In other words, a leader will
cast the vision. You empower the people. But number three,
a leader will guide that organization. A leader will guide
the team. And what you mean guiding the team, You
guide them by setting short term goals. So that they
can reach what long term goals. In other words, you
(10:53):
are there to inspire, to motivate the team so that
they can see. Remember you have cast the vision. This
is where we are going. Empower them. But you also
do what you guide them. And the word guide is
the same word also for God. In other words, you
create an environment safe for people. Ah, you're not gonna
like this one. You create an nevana for people to
(11:15):
speak up? Are you ready to give feedback and to
be innovative? Some leaders rule I'm a leader, I'm always
right Rulember two from Rome.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Let's go back to Ruleambu and I'm still a leader.
I'm always right.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
People cannot speak up, people cannot innovate, and people cannot
give what cannot give feedback.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Number four.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
A great leader is an effective communicator, period and leader
is the one that must be able to communicate well.
And when you communicate well, it builds trust and people
feel they know where they are going.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
That is why I like Jesus as a leader.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
The bubble says, he will always say again, I say
unto you.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
You know, when a leader.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Speaks, then you understand or no, he's he or she's
given us direction.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Communication is key in this program.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
A couple of months ago, I said, effective communication is
not about telling, it's about selling. You solicit the inputs
of the people. What do you think, not that you
don't know what people what. You know where you're going,
but you want people to be involved. You are encouraging people,
you acknowledge their work. But at the same time you
are soliciting them to know their ideas because people are
(12:33):
not just clogging their brains in and growing their brains out.
Because remember one, it is too small a number to
achieve greatness. As you know, why do you need people?
If then everything you do you need to remember. You
cast the vision, You empower them, you guide them. You
communicate and continuous communication, frequent communication, honest, open, transparent communication
(12:57):
because when people get frustrated, to remind them, chief, don't
you are being derailed.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
This is where we're going, this is not where we're going.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
A leader must always be communicating, not unfortunately sometimes even
in South Africa right now, you know you see the
DRC fiasco where our.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Souls hungry or not hungry. We don't know do they
have bullets or did they have bullets? Aren't sabe? You
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (13:22):
The minister is saying that, the President saying this, and whatever.
You know, so that's the problem. Sometimes as a communicator,
you don't have to spin things. When you communicate honestly
and frequently it is the same message. Yes, people forget you,
remind them.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
You know. That's what a leader does. Number five.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
A leader is a decision maker. Remember, as a leader,
you are the ultivated decision maker. In other words, the
final authority is on you. You are ultimately responsible. But
most of our times, leaders you're always wanting to say hi, no, no, no, no, no no.
A leader is a decision makeup. It's good to let
(14:03):
your team decide.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
It is good to do that.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
By the end of the day, they yes, this is
where we are going. Yes, this is not where you're going.
It must come from you. You must make a decision. Remember,
your decisions will determine your destiny as a leader. Ultimately,
you decide because your destiny is based on that. Other
people may be hesitant in making some decisions, but as
(14:26):
a leader, the easy decisions and the tough decisions. Guess
what kiss Spanish aha, caid till you ah. It is
your job.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Number six.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
A leader must set the pace. You must be a
pace set up or a standard setup. In others, you
are a role model. You lead by example. If you
want people to come in till trow. You can't become
a coop a half past eight because I'm a leader,
it's my company.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
No, you lead by example, because when you lead by example,
then you are creating a spirit of expectations. People can
then know that it's expected because they see the leader
doing that. As you say, actions speak louder than what words.
And you set the page. Okay, And when you set
the page, you don't have to do anything. When people
see there's a piece of paper, you don't go back
(15:18):
and say, let me go to my job description. You
know I'm the leader. I'm not supposed to pick up
the paper. They're watching you. You pick up the paper
even though it is not your job description. You are
a pay setter, a standard setter. In other words, you
lead by what by example. Whatever behaviors they want from
their team, the leaders must model this behavior themselves first.
(15:42):
Whatever behavior you want to be exhibited from your people,
you must model it yourself.
Speaker 1 (15:47):
Number seven. A leader is a coach and a mentor.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
In other words, you must care about your people because
people don't care how much you know until they know
how much you care.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
How's your family? How's your birthday?
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Always be involved in other people, but see the people
you lead little things like that, how's your son? How's
your daughter? H we understand now the university is are full?
How is your child? Are they going to a TV
to university? You know you are a cult or a
mentor to the people. And when you begin to talk
about some of the softer issues, they know.
Speaker 1 (16:22):
You really care.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
As a coach and a mentor, you find out what
skills do you want to develop? Then you also not
only just talk about it, you actually enraw them so
that they can be able to be provided with resources
to upstill and upgrade themselves.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Number eight.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
A leader is a door opener. Leaders are door openers. Okay,
you can lead people to a goal and operates into it.
I like it when people say I've got an open
door policy. But if your mind is closed, it does
matter what open door policy is.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
Have you seen some guys it is true. It's true.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
The door is open. You come in and they look
at you and they kind of like saying, but you
say open door policy. But if you're a door opener.
If somebody your door is open. You take your classes,
you were classes, you put them down, you switch off everything,
you give them your undivided attention. Then you're able to
(17:21):
open doors. Not necessarily physical doors. It can be dose
of opportunities, can be dose of improvement, whatever it is,
or the connection that needs to be made.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Number nine, you are a back stopper. You've heard people
say the backstop ya Is that right? In other words,
no excuses. At the end of the day, the backstops here.
If you're I'm the leader, not in an arrogant way,
but understand that the end of the day you take
responsibility and what and take action.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Number ten, influenza Sometimes he real social media and the
influence and the influencer, but it is true. Leadership is
about influence. But the influence I'm talking about talk about
relationship building. It is a powerful thing. Ray Do people
are those people that you lead? Do they follow you
because they have to follow you? Or do they follow
(18:18):
you because they want to follow you? Two different things.
If they have to follow you, we talk about it's
your positional leader, but I'm your boss. Whatever you know,
they have to follow you because you're the A KPIs
or whatever. But a leader a relationship leader. People follow
(18:39):
because they want to follow you. You are approachable, you
relate to them.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Remember, you can never rebuke until you have a relationship.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
I cannot speak ill, I cannot correct you until I
have a relationship with you. So people follow you because
they want to follow you. You don't have to manipulate
them to do what they know. For chief, this guy's
got my best interests had this lady's got the best
interest at had? You know? And then I believe those
ten things will give you an idea of what leadership
(19:11):
is all about and the function of leadership. And it
is true whether you are at home, whether you are
in the workplace, whether you're working for someone else, because
you might be a follower now, but the truth is
your potential leader.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:25):
There is this question. Someone just asked this question out
of nowhere. Listaid, what is the difference between a leader
and a manager?
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Good question?
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Here?
Speaker 1 (19:34):
It is.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Management is about pay perwork. Leadership is about people work.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
I repeat.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
A manager is focusing on the rules, the prescripts, payperwork.
A leader, even though a leader focuses on that, but
a leader goes beyond paperwork. Their focusing on people work.
I hope I have somebody there. Leadership is about people work.
The same people must do the work with papers and
(20:05):
things like that. But beyond the paper, you don't see
as a paper pusher. You see that person as a person,
as an individual that is a potential to grow, to develop,
to add value, first of all to their own lives.
Because I said to you when I started that the
most difficult person to lead is yourself. That is why
(20:26):
in some thirty four vers. Nineteen David says, you know,
many are the afflictions of the righteous. I might be
a righteous leader, but afflictions are there. But the greatest
affliction is you doubting yourself as a leader, You doubting yourself,
having no confidence.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
So I hope that has helped a person here.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Management is limited to paperwork, but leadership is not limited
to pay It goes beyond paperwork, is about people work.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Ah. Perfect. Now another question, what are some of the
things that leaders should not do, especially during tough time,
because I think that's where they crack, that's where they
micro managing starting to kick in ray.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
That's a powerful question. I'm actually going to give you
eight facts what leaders do not do during a difficult times,
and then you can end up on a positive one hopefully.
Speaker 1 (21:19):
What must you not do?
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Number one, don't ignore the difficult times, your personal, difficult time,
in your organization, with the people you lead. So number one,
the mistake number one that leaders do is to ignore
that there is difficult time. So if you can't ignore
difficult time, we're going through a rough time now. Trump
(21:41):
has taken off financial aid, so you can't ignore it.
Seventeen percent of the budget of the Department of Health.
Seventeen percent is the money we use from usaid.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
You can't ignore it.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
People's salaries are based on that. Retroviral drug beneficiaries are
in there. Cliques must pay the water. They're thinking Ahnasaga.
There's no money for ninety days. So what must I
leaders do, whether you're in government as an individual, Please, you.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Cannot ignore it.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
It's mistake number one ignoring the challenging time. It's there,
deal with it. Number two, hide it Sometimes leaders want
to hide stuff. When you hide things, it does not
fix the stuff. It doesn't even protect you and keeps
the problem from getting SOLVEDI get or what do we
say leadership?
Speaker 1 (22:37):
Get Ie Parker. We park o go guy.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Even parking you've got to pay for Party I to
try Parker. So leaders must not ignore difficult times. They
must acknowledge it.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Two.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
You cannot hide the challenges in difficult times.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Number three. Sometimes as leaders, we should not do this.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
What we do we closs over. We pretend it's not
a big deal. A tough time is a big deal.
But you know, for the beneficiary, govern I may not
be a big deal. But don't close over it. If
the baby is ugly, what should just call over this
is ugly? These are millions, you know, these are millions
(23:16):
of people.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
It's not going to be good.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
If I'm not going to get a paycheck by the
end of February and Febriar does not have the twenty
nine or the eighty twenty eight, February is the last time.
And if there's no money coming in, if the baby
is ugly, just say the baby is ugly, be honest,
open about it. It will not help the situation better,
but it looks better on you when you take ownership.
(23:41):
So don't hide it, don't ignore it, don't try to
close over it.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Number four.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Blame Sometimes when difficulties come you as also a kid.
That department it's the finance department, is the h Even
if it is, you must assume responsibility.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
Here's a powerful TikTok moment.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
When you blame someone, you, as a leader give up
the power to change and to grow. Remember, blaming makes you,
as a leader, look weak, and it does not solve
the problem. When you blame people, it makes you look weak.
I always like the Bible, Adam, what happened? Give me eveen?
(24:22):
Is this woman you gave me? Ah, Adam, take responsibility.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
When you blame, you look weak. Number five.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Panic as a leader, when difficulties come, don't panic because
when you panic, you make bad decisions and unfirsture. If
you make bad decisions, it can spread.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
And when you.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Spread to the people, trust me, you're in trouble. Oh guys,
by the way, when things are in that c situation,
don't panic. That's why the Bible will fear not because
as a leader, you must have the ability. Here's a
TikTok moment. As a leader, you must have the ability
through your words and through your actions, to dry the
(25:04):
tears of the people and remove their fears through difficult time.
You don't panic through your words and your actions, because
I see you're not panicking. You have the ability to
wipe their tears through your words, through your action, and
remove and allay their fears.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Here's another one.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
When difficulties come as a leader, please don't make hasty decisions.
Remember there's no rush in Russia, there's no hurry in Haraari,
So why are you rushing? And that's a problem with
many leaders sometimes because you need to make a quick
decision without making sure you've got all the information. Then
later on you must come back because you want I'm
(25:47):
sory man, I've done that. Don't make hasty decisions. Always
gather information so that when you make a decision is
based on facts. Remember, as a leader in God we
trust all else must bring data effects, then you can
make decisions.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
I understand.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
The other pendulum is don't wait too long also to
make decisions. I'm going to pray about it until after
forty days. Forty days is too far, So it's a
balance a candida. Don't be too long, you know, because
you must make sure you get that information. And as
I said, the backstops with you. So don't be hasty
and make decisions. At the same time, don't take too long,
gather the information, analyze it, and then at the end
(26:28):
of the day you must make decisions.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Okay, here's another one.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Isolate yourself moosts of the time when leaders are in
travel by yah Alan. You just see the jacket Raymond
here and here's radio Oka. No chase eating eating, But
where is the man?
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Where is the woman?
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Him?
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Morning's tea? Whatever I'm wearing? Your knicks is she leo?
Is she lea? By guess what?
Speaker 2 (26:57):
In difficult times, don't isolate yourself. It hits your team
and it can raise fear and distrust. That is why
he has a powerful TikTok moment when things are tough.
As a leader, Lbwa lead by walking around. Because when
you lead by walking around, you can be able to
(27:18):
answer people's concern and questions. You're able to nip any
misconception misinformation in the bad and then you minimize the
distrust and the fears of the people. So I believe
some of those brother, they is what leaders should not
do when things are tough.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Wow, So can you just repeat that? How many eight
of them?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Yeah? Let me hear them here.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
One Ignoring the problem is a mistake. Hiding it Number two,
it's a mistake. Try to close over it. The mistake.
Number four blaming people in a tough situation as a leader,
it's a mistake.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Number five panic.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Because when you panic, you make the wrong decision, and
that panic, that thing is contagious.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
It will spread fears to the other people.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Number six, making hasty decisions is dangerous. Number four I
mean number seven waiting too long also to decide. It's
not good for a leadership. And number eight isolating yourself.
Those are the eight mistakes that leaders make when they're
faced with difficult, challenging times.
Speaker 3 (28:31):
Wow, I hope everyone is catching that. I gotta the question,
practical ways to deal with tough time or difficult situation?
What are the those things that they need to start implementing?
Speaker 2 (28:45):
And I like that question because, as I said, maybe
some people watching this TikTok or listening to us on radio,
remember you don't have to be a leader of an organization.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
To get these things and talk to you about.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Yes, you can lead an organization, a government, corporature, entrepreneur
and npo. But remember the organization you lead, and this
is relevant that you're ready for this.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
It's you.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
You are an organization again, this is the mindset key organization,
your feet, your mouth, give marketing machine.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
I get this is a folk lifter. So you lead
your own organization.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
For the first time.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Now, I know.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yes, That's why I said the most difficult person to
lead is yourself. That's why David understood when he said
many are the afflictions of the righteous. As a leader,
you're going to be faced with. No one is exempt.
You can't say so I'm talking to. Practical way is
what do you do as a leader, whether you're a
follow about to be a leader, or a leader in
(29:45):
the making. In the training, here are practical tips on
how to handle setbacks. Remember, the Bible is clear many
are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will deliver
us out of them. How does God deliver us by
giving us some of these practical things? And this once
I've lived them myself. These are lived experiences. I lead
(30:06):
the Icon Foundation, which is community, I can Leadership Institute Africa,
I lead leaders in government incorporates, and then I lead
Logos University. So I know what I'm talking about and
I lead myself. Here's number one, embrace reality. Ah, we
want things to go our way. How do you deal
(30:28):
with difficult times. Embrace reality. Well, I'm be beauty born
before technology. No, no, no, Chief, it's not an excuse.
Embrace reality. The reality is this, that this is a
challenging time, and you cannot say it's not there. You
know there are a couple, a couple of yers of go.
I preach about Leah and Rachel. I said, Jacob married
(30:49):
this woman, and you thought this woman was Rachel in
the morning, when when you opened.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
The veil it was Leah. Bad news. Embrace it.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
It's part of life. Embrace reality. This is real stuff,
So don't run away from it.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
What am I saying?
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Embrace reality? Chief Leadership, you are in a remorse. Devil,
You're in a mess. Raymond, you are in a mess.
Embrace it. Don't run away from it. You embrace it.
That's a good start.
Speaker 1 (31:17):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Number two, After you embrace it, there's a leader of
what you do. Stay calme, composed and collected because freaking
out it messes up your your mind. And remember there
is a scripture in Second Timothy one seven. It says,
for God did not give us the spirit of fear.
(31:38):
For God did not give us the spirit of timidity,
but he gave us the spirit of.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Power, love and a sound mind.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
So you must stay calm as a leader, collected and
composed during that situation. Okay, because part if people are
watching you that you're leading, but he OUTI even in
things like that, he's come and collected. Remember what I
said about the storm, that sometimes the storm is not
(32:05):
there to mess you up, but some storms are there
to clear the path. Okay, So stay, come and collected,
calm yourself because.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
The storm will pass.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Number three, step back sometimes as a leader and see
the big picture. I want to be practical trampo ooquates
a zaga yeo for ninety days.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
So you must step back and see the big picture.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
Because sometimes when you are stuck in this thing, you
stop being creative and thinking. Now suddenly the government must
now step back and think the big picture. Do we
go to bricks for some extra funding? Where is it
that we can take some money to be able to
replace here you begin to see.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
The big picture.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
But sometimes when you are close to a situation, you
make some bad mistakes.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
But here's a practical away.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Step back, hold on, step back. You still make the decision,
but sometimes you might just look at this problem and
then step back and begin to look at other ways.
If this door is closed, is there a window? Here's
a powerful TikTok moment. Not all closed doors are locked doors.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
Ah real, I hope you did amiss that.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Because a door is closed does not mean it's locked.
But in your mind, if you're there, it's closed. If value,
it means it's a lot. Sometimes you must go like this,
and then its way to go like there. It's closed,
but it's not locked. Step back, sir, step back, ma'am,
and begin to look at the big picture. Here's another
(33:38):
one number four. Study learn about the situation. Study, Learn
about the situation so that you can make a better decision. Okay,
Sometimes it's leaders when things are difficult and tough, we
just want to cross everything up there.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
Sometimes the bubble says, be.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Steel and know that I'm God, it says, but God
will deliver us of the many are the afflictions of
the righteous. But God, there is a time when sometimes
you need to step back, study the situation so that
your creative jews can come into the picture. Some people
may have to lay them over.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Am. I to fire the people. But before I fire
the people, why.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Don't I equip them and multi skill them and cross
kill them so that they can add value, or maybe
I'll tell you their business before I said, they must
go to the pot to get all that money that
our people got, and some of that money is already finished.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
That's a problem. You see what I mean? But what's
the read is saga.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
They were the pot and now they want another part,
another part, but we did not have time to study
to learn about the situation. Number five, Gather input. It's
very very important. Gather input from yourself and from the
team and from those who are directly facing the problem.
King would tell the why is it that we don't
(35:01):
have water? Or what happened that two days are load chaering?
We thought there was no load shading, but duringtributed for
two days. Oh, we are back now on calls. And
when you gather that information, this is very key. Listen
not only with your head, with your heart, because you
(35:22):
can never heal the wounds you do not feel.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
Sometimes people don't want extra paycheck. Sometimes people say, see Chief,
we've got the solutionaire, how can we work together? Ease
are or five days?
Speaker 1 (35:36):
Can we do?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
A four day work happen in many organizations when you
allow people to speak and to come up with creative ideas.
All you have to do is to listen. Jesus is
faced with a difficult task. Five thousand people pray for
the whole day.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
This was all night. It was an all day prayer.
So Peter and the disciples say, you yo yo, these
people but food.
Speaker 2 (36:03):
And when they look at the budget, but badget take
us a look. So obviously they send Peter and Peter
Peter kill comrade Kim Page. But Peter, what's a Jesus?
Corey Quale say, and then a god, we don't have
any money to feed the people there here for a
long time. So Peter about Peter leg in pa Jobson
one was Peter. Peter's the guys the man of God
(36:24):
that discipled. But so whatever, you know who they die
in case the engines are slower, and now I'm not
so Peter goes to Jesus say, say, ray, by Jesus,
please come up two minutes just to cauc us. Jesus
say yes, Peter, chief in case close you kept on
(36:45):
saying I'm closing. I'm cozy, and you need to close.
The sun is about to set, and hey, the people
are too many. They need to go home.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
They're hungry. You know, what did Jesus say? Jesus? Since
you know they're hungry, study, gather information.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
You and those disciples find a plan, make a plan,
clears over Correlada, and you know.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
They're still one.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
Event they find a boy with loaves and fish, and
the miracle happened there.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Okay, number six.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Look at past, similar situations, some of us, in fact,
most of us, the same challenges we face, if the
truth be told, we've gone through them again, because it's
called the circle of life.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
The same winter you faced. It might not snow now,
but some of us ten fifteen years ago we face snow.
What did you do right? What did you do wrong?
Speaker 2 (37:35):
So you look at past or similar situations, and then
you ask what went well, what didn't go well?
Speaker 1 (37:43):
And I think when you begin to do that.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Then you're able to say those things that went well,
piggy back on those, and implement them asap.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
It is true in your life.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
The last time I fought with rake sharply like a
cap jenda based violence and femicide. So now says I
must breathe, You know, breathe and count. Remember if you
are angry about to lose your temper. If the person
is your superior, you must count till twenty one to
three five seventy nineteen eventy ten forty nineteen twenty.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
You breathe and you go.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
If that person is your peer, you come till ten
seventy nine ten. You must, of course you go. If
the person is your junior, you come to five one
to three four five, you go. But if that person
is your wife, you keep on counting number seven, number seven,
(38:38):
number seven. What do you do as a leader when
things are tough? Take responsibility. I cannot overemphasize this thing.
At the end of the day, you.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Are a leader.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
You need to lead in difficult times, and you must
stop making excuses.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
You must make it happen. It does not matter whose
fault it is.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
A great leader says I'm responsible because remember I said,
the backstops here. Most of the time leaders will do that.
They find another department, They want to find something else.
It takes a leader to say I screwed up. And
the words screw is a Greek way for I messed up.
You know, I messed up like he Lee Moley, And
you take full responsibility and guess what you do.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Here's a powerful thing. Brother Ray. A leader is a
self correcter. Think about it.
Speaker 2 (39:28):
In difficult times, sometimes you made some bad decisions, but
realize the quality of a leader is to correct yourself.
You don't have to wait for someone else.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Partilla.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Some of us who are led by the Spirit of God.
The bubble says, the Holy Spirit will guide you into
all truth. So if maybe you're being derailed into a
lie or misconception or deception, you need to allow the
Holy Spirit to say to you, ah, to nudge you.
But the Holy Spirit cannot care. Remember, the Holy Spirit
cannot con Here's the thing. The Holy Spirit can only
(40:02):
convict you. Did you see that The Holy Spirit cannot
condemn you, But the Holy Spirit can convict you.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
And then you do what you correct yourself.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
Number eight, Communicate quickly and frequently during challenging times. You've
got to communicate, but for it and be a front.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
We're in a mess.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
We have lost twenty million, but for it in two
months if nothing happens there, we are stuck. People want
the truth. Don't hide them. So can do you look
a yalloga chief? I yallooga? You know I only say
this joke that you know I loaned some Christian brothers
(40:43):
some money, and when it was term for them to
pay me back, they sing a song her car zuluini
we have majella you know, la la mane you know
you know. So, especially as a leader, when it affects
other people, people who work with you, who work for you,
you've got to able number eight to communicate quickly and
(41:06):
frequently and give them the good, the bad, the ugly,
and then also throw it to them. What do we
do in a situation like that. You'll be surprised what
people can do. It will create trust, it will create
even confidence in you. But when you hide some things
and avoid something, distrust and worry and again people give
(41:27):
you their versions. And then here as a leader, you're
speaking something about ah yahha shiallow. So the version must
be strict. This is the version. These are the challenges again,
this is the mountain that you must face.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
And when you are honest.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Upfront, when you communicate that with the people the first time,
doing the right things right the first time. Do you
get that doing the right things right the first time?
Because you can do the right thing wrong the first time,
then it's a problem. Number nine make timely decisions.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
So what am I saying what are the cost of notice?
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Adding now, as a leader, you must know that say
it cycles, you know, like I said, at one time
I was the director of Dimension Data, one of the
largest information technology company in Southern Africa. In Africa, the
stock market crash right from ninety five, seventy five, fifty
twenty five to ten four. We had to face the people,
(42:22):
and I remember I said to the board, I will
go face the people and the only way to do
is just to face them. Be honest, guys, when the
stock market was that, this was the company all about
and these were the fringe benefits on the pegs. Right
now as we speak, you Google, you check the stock market,
it's now for bucks.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
What does that mean? Upfront?
Speaker 2 (42:41):
One for at least another month you get your paycheck,
but the second month, nobody's paycheck is guaranteed. What does
that mean too? It means, you know, we've got to
cut certain jobs. Three some of the suffwa be honest
with people. And guess what, when things ten around, you
come back again, because sometimes you forget as people that
(43:03):
when things do come around, where there is a ten
around time. Guys, got some good news for you. You're
with us during the difficult time, STOCKBA can move from ten,
we're now on fifty.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
What does that mean.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
It means your job as secured at least for the
next six months because you allay the fears of people.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
That's what leadership leaders must do.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Make timely decision and then number ten, do the right things,
even if it hurts. Do the right things, even if
it hurts. It's not negotiable. Even if it costs you money,
it costs your brand. Do the right things. In the
long run, it's worth it. Number eleven. Be honest. Once
people know that you've lied to them, you have lost them.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
They can spill good jiling girl and Jelly. Are you
doing fine your lie? First, you know you've lost the people.
Number twelve.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
Number twelve, create effective plans in difficult time. You as
a leader in your own life, you now lost the job.
In your own businesses things are not going well. Your
employers things are tough.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
What to do? You've got to create effective plans. What
are you going to do now about this? What are
things that you need to adjust?
Speaker 2 (44:12):
The last time we spoke about budgeting, what are some
things that I need to cut off until summer comes?
It's winter because winter is not a year, it's only
a season. But again, many are the afflictions of the righteous,
because your righteous does not mean you're exempt from troubles. Okay,
poor people now, they have nothing to do with Trump.
In fact, some of them love Trump. But the very
(44:33):
same Trump now said seventeen percent of the budget five
hundred million dollars gone. So sonto double as now and hustle.
How are you going to do that? You don't freak out,
You compose yourself. Yes, there will be an initial shock,
but come up with what create effective plans? Number thirteen
focus on long term and short term goals. What is
(44:55):
it that we can solve now? And as we solve
those smaller Yana one, then long term things will be fantastic.
Number fourteen here is learn from the situation? How do
you lead effected in difficult times? Every situation is a schoolmaster.
There are some experiences, there are some learnings.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
When you have take time.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
To reflect and examine, you can still learn from any mishap,
set back, or disappointment and it will help you to
improve as a leader so that you can move forward.
Number fifteen. This one is difficult for leaders. You must
show empathy and take care of your employees or your teams.
Sometimes people don't care. The only concern about self preservation.
(45:39):
It's me, myself and I As a leader, you must
always show empathy. What I like about Jesus, he says.
Persecutions are coming. It did not lie to us. Says,
They persecuted me. They falsely accused me. They called me
of the devil. They're also going to do the same thing.
But listen to this, he says. But be of good cheer.
(45:59):
I am which even until the end of time. Show empathy.
Oh twelver uzel a band too. Don't be arrogant, go
to and now sharp you survived. No, no, no, show empathy.
Don't crash it off. People's lives are going to be affected.
Shed even the way you say it, even your voice.
You must what let people know you understand the challenges
(46:23):
and if possible, help in many ways that you can,
connecting them with some other people, creating other opportunities. Number sixteen.
Help your team to succeed. What do you mean help
your team to succeed? You tell them this is the challenge.
Make sure with the resources that you have. Then you realize,
for a leader is not threatened by other people. Because
the teams can come up actually with wonderful ideas or
(46:45):
not to come out of these comers. Okay, save your
team to help them succeed. The bubble says, cast your
bread upon the water. It will come back. But make
sure it's not sels coop bread against uscope bread. Yeah, yes, well,
gass empay. Cast your bread upon the water. That water
was this big bread it used to go in. It
(47:06):
comes back. Okay, but since plus you put it on
the water. Yes, so cast your braid upon the water
into regard it will come back.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
We're about to finish seventeen.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Monitor your progress after making decisions, planning and taking action.
Monitor your progress. How effective is your plan? Is it working?
What else might you need to do? Because remember, difficult
times are not permanent. They have a shelf life. They've expired.
They've expired date. It may be in your personal life you're.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
Going through trauma.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
I know what it is to lose a child, I
know what it is to lose money, I know what
it is to lose relationships. Okay, those things are not forever.
They've got an expiry date. So during that time you
monitor progress. And some of us who trust in the
Lord and I'm going to end up with prayer when
we all finish. We know that many are the afflictions
of the righteous. But God will deliver the word deliver,
(47:58):
meaning God will set us from that. God will restore,
God will vindicate, God will create vengeance for us. In
other ways, God will take us back to where we were.
Job lost everything, but the bubble says God delivered Job
and doubled all.
Speaker 1 (48:15):
The money had.
Speaker 2 (48:16):
If he was a billionaire, then two billions came to him.
So this is my prayer that this is what leadership
is all about. Sending things a leader should not do,
and here are practical ways to lead in difficult times,
whether it is leading yourself, leading others, leading an organization,
these are valid points that will help you. Maybe you
(48:37):
can take other questions up there before I end up
in prayer.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
Let me just check out if you guys have any question.
But besides that, so far, so good. You know, I'm
quite impressed, honestly, you know, because we thought leadership is
about management, and when I realize that these two things
that don't even mix. Someone is running according to what
is written down and the other one is leading effectively,
(49:02):
leading people with passion and there are things that is
a leader. You don't have to do the panic party
and you just switch it off and you focus on
how do I take these people to the next level?
Because some people they they they they are there to say,
I'm just waiting for someone to do something. And when
they see you as a leader, or for an example,
as a father, when you start panicking and everyone is
(49:26):
looking at you in the family, they're like, Okay, what next.
Correct If he's the one who's panicking, then it means hope.
There's no hope is the end. So we can which
means leadership is you can even put it more into
the father.
Speaker 1 (49:41):
With the parenting point of yes.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
So it's one of those things that I can I mean,
we can even relate to that extent. But yeah, guys,
is there anyone with a question.
Speaker 1 (49:51):
If you have a question or comments or comments.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Comments, But most of the comments that I can see,
I can see that people. There's only one guy. This
guy says he still he started counting from twenty ten.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
Wow, so.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
The reason for counting is the wife he started counting.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Chief, listen, keep on counting, my brother.
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Remember remember this too shall come to pass.
Speaker 3 (50:24):
There's a question that said doctor La, what's the difference
between a bond leader and a man made leader?
Speaker 1 (50:32):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
On a lighter note, there's a joke all leaders are born.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
You know, all of us are bonn But I hear
what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
It is true that there are some leaders who have
been born in an environment that's already in leadership. Example,
if you're born in a palace, you know you're a
bonda because you know what leadership is all about.
Speaker 1 (50:55):
Your mom, your dad. You can see them leading people.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
You are born in that environ But my experience working
in many organizations all over the world is that the
greatest leaders are the ones that are created through challenges.
David in the Bible, the only thing he was leading wasship.
The only praise report KPIs was bah Mah. But he
(51:19):
learned some couple of things. That is why even in
the Book of Sons, when you lead, these leadership qualities
are based on lived experiences in the bush. Nelson Mandela
was just a lawyer fighting for the rights of people,
but the Robin Island situation helped him and shaped him
as a leader. When he came out. Look what happened
(51:40):
through difficulties, problems created leadership Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa. Most
of us leadership is because of difficult times. Most of
the effective leaders in the world are leader who just
came from difficulties. But am I discounting those that you
know came from rich environment that already wear producing leadership. Know,
(52:05):
But the bottom line is most of the people are
making a meaningful contribution to society are those who had
a learned behavior, a learned skill in the air of leadership.
So you may be born as a leader, but still
you need skills. You need a coach and a mentor
to be a better leader. But those who are standing
(52:26):
from nothing, those are actually fantastic leaders. That is why
are challenge leaders that when you have made it as
a leader, never ever look down upon the people who
are struggling, because one day when you not if when
you fall and fail, you may need them to lift
you up.
Speaker 1 (52:40):
So don't forget your roots. So what is the difference.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
The difference is those that have an environment created for
them by their parents and their You know example, you
grew up in a place where business is already there,
it's easy.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
To catch up.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
Doesn't mean you are guaranteed to succeed. You still need
to have left skills, leadership skills. But those people that
are fast track leaders, most of them are those who
have gone through difficult times. Out of that the difficult
times have shaped them so that they can become leaders
that we are celebrating today.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
Ah, fantastic. I hope and I believe that you guys
have no Most of the people, they are very impressed
in the wow wow, now that's good. The guy is
so impressed about the respond because he was not expecting
that because most of us we grew up with that
mentality with Bagankosi. Correct, and then you don't automatically qualify
(53:41):
to become a leader. Correct, Automatically, you don't qualify to
become a leader. But the way you have breaked it down,
it the way you have explained it that most of
these things that shapes leaders are circumstances, situations, environment that
sharpens you so that you think way much better and
to have that compassion to the people that you are
come from, the environment that you're coming from, so that
(54:03):
even that day when it comes the same people will
lift you up to say, ah, you were there with us,
we saw you moving up, but you were never a
different person towards us. So that exactly what creates you
a leader. That's what's before you close.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
The last words is all of us have the capability
to develop our leadership skills. All of us were born
to be leaders. God never created followers. Out of five
million sperms, brother, Ray, only one leadership sperm that believe
in itself. When it was time to go on your
(54:39):
max get set ready go, only one spem that believes
in itself. Spem with passion, No maranjahney back what never
for whatever? That spem focused, that spam with tennacity determination.
That spem hit the egg. And that's why you're here.
(55:00):
That's why I'm here. So we are one in five million.
Speaker 1 (55:05):
Imagine that.
Speaker 2 (55:06):
So don't ever from today call yourself a mistake. You
might not know your father or your mother. You might
be raised by your in laws, outlaws, adopted parents, whatever.
But the mere fact that you are here, said, the
mere effect that you're here, men, it means there is
an assignment. There is a purpose. Even in your pain.
Your pain will produce purpose for you to rise up
(55:29):
to leadership qualities. Some of you right now you are following,
and it is good to be a follower because you
can see other mistakes of the leaders that are leading you,
and deep down in the inner recesses of your heart,
Julal what you are how just say, when I become
that leader, I will not do this, I will not
do that. Or you are being prepared for leadership. That
(55:51):
is why don't be quick to criticize leadership, because you're
going to be a leader. So some of you, like Jordy,
might have been writing from leadership. But unfortunately you can
not run. Ask Moses, ask Jonah. You can go on
and on. You are born to be a leader. So
as a leader, I want to encourage you. You might
be going through a difficult time. I'm going to be
(56:12):
praying for you right now. Mighty God, I need your
power to help me get through this difficult season.
Speaker 1 (56:20):
Father.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
Even though I'm vulnerable and sometimes feel weak, I trust
in your unlimited strength to help me with these challenges
I'm facing. Please sustain me during this tough time. When
I feel overwhelmed, remind me that your Holy Spirit will
help me with whatever I need. Please fill me with
(56:41):
your spirit to empower me to face every challenge with
confidence and courage. Strengthen my faith as I walk through
these difficult times. Day by day, week by week, month
by month. I believe that your strength will infuse my
soul with hope. Thank you for the for continuously being
(57:01):
my strength. I know that you care for me, that
you love me. So today I thank you that you
will be my refuge from pain, replacing my distress with peace,
and be my strength when I feel weak and Father,
I thank you that you will carry me so that
(57:22):
can carry on. Help me not to fear the future,
but to boldly trust that you are in control. When
my emotions plunge me down, and when I'm in despair,
I'm reminded my Philippians four vest eighteen. I can do
all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Brother Ray, I
(57:45):
want to say amen some tenty four nineteen. Many are
the afflictions of the righteous, but I want to enter
this positive. But God will deliver us all of them.
So may this week be a week of deliverance. May
you be set free to be the leader you're supposed
to be. May God bring destiny connect us. Destiny help
(58:06):
us to lift you up so that you can be
able to lift other people.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
And all of this is for the glory of God.
Speaker 2 (58:13):
