Speaker 1 (00:23):
So if you're going to have a big Thanksgiving feast,
when do you stop eating before it Monday of Thanksgiving
week Sunday Tuesday. And if you're going to the Lions game,
of course that's kind of unavoidable. There's usually some sort
of tailgate element to all of it. It's Michael Patrick
shields with you. Blue Cross has Michigan covered head to toe,

(00:44):
inside and out, ready to help with health and wellness
resources for the body and mind, and you can learn
more at BCBSM dot com. I learn more at Ahealthier
Michigan dot org. And I've got you know, right right
on the front page of that publication. I see three
stories that I want to read all at the same time.

(01:05):
It's kind of like Thanksgiving on that site. Because it's
a feast and some people don't like their food to touch.
Some people mix them together. I personally, I eat one
food at a time and work my way around the plate.
I don't know. My family thinks.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
It's weird, but it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
But these articles I would like to consume immediately because
they're fascinating to me. And one of them is social
media can put a damper on your holiday spirit. So
if scrolling and swiping makes you feel less than festive,
don't let social media do that to you. And there's
an article there that can explain to you how to
do that or share it with somebody that you care about.

(01:43):
The other article, well, there are two more. One is
is beef jerky Healthy. I'm going to presume that there
are no carbs, but is there a lot of sodium?
I don't know. When I read the article, I'm going
to find out it. Finally, does Celtic salt have benefits?
I've heard about the Himalayan salt, but being of Irish descent,

(02:04):
Celtic salts. Check it out and let us know. And
you can read it right there. The publisher of that site,
Very Dynamic, is a very dynamic fellow himself. His name
is Andy Hutzel, Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Michigan. He
is the vice president of corporate communications and he's on
our radio stage, our AT and T line. All right

(02:26):
this moment, thank you for being here and welcome to
the program.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Well, thanks for having me. I wish my voice was
a little more dynamic this morning, but I'm struggling through
a cold that I acquired this weekend, So I apologize
to your listeners in advance.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
You were a cold. I know you don't catch cold
from being out in the cold. That's kind of an
old wives tale. But in the future, you won't be
out in the cold in that same stadium in Buffalo anymore, ever,
will you?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Seeing the bills, I will not be at Highmark Stadium.
It was my last trip, and I took my eighty
two year old father to his last trip that stadium
before they moved to the new one which is going
up right next door. It's fantastic. You can't catch a
cold from being out in the cold, but you can
catch a cold from hanging out with like seventy two
thousand year closest friends, and that's what I did this weekend.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
Is the new stadium going to be open air.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
It's going to be the seating area is going to
be mostly covered in that stadium, but the field is uncovered,
but the field will be heated, so they have heating
elements underneath the natural grass playing surface like they do
now up at lambeau Field. That's the same type of design.
It's designed after Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That was the model

(03:44):
for the design of the new Hi Mark Stadium in Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Well, so we won't see any more of those videos
late in the season of snowplows making room for the
field goal kicker to come on like he did in
the past.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, we hope, we hope it helps avoid the bringing
their own shovels to the stadium to shovel out their seats,
which has been a trend over the past few years.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
It's nostalgic. Nevertheless, I'm sure to be in that place
for the last time that meant so much to you,
and then you know, once you get to the new place,
it's like Tiger Stadium here and you say, oh, yeah, okay,
I'm good. I don't know if the tickets are going
to be wildly more expensive in the new stadium, any idea,
And have you bought any for next year yet?

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Well, the seating capacity is less, and I believe they're
selling personal seat licenses to season ticket holders, which I
am not one of because I live here in Michigan.
I think it will be more expensive, But the amenities
in that stadium and the comfort of that stadium, the
seats themselves at high Mark, there's still some bleachers in

(04:47):
that stadium. It's so old and so yeah, it'll be
a big improvement in the fan experience.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
It's just fun to talk about. I'm sorry you lost
your voice, but you know, we do these things in
the winter that make us feel good because there's a
con between physical and mental health. They go hand in hand.
You've taught us that over the years on this program.
Behavioral healthcare is strained though by demand for services for
people who are looking for it. That's a concern, is it?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
It is a concern and numerous studies have been done,
especially since the COVID pandemic, of the impact of mental
health conditions here in the United States and here in Michigan.
And it is true that the body and mind are connected.
If you have a mental health concern is more likely

(05:38):
to impact your physical health down the road. And so
we at Blue Cross Michael Patrick, are committed to addressing
those issues on a whole person level. And we're doing
some pretty innovative things with physicians across the state of
Michigan to help address some of the access concerns that
people have to the mental health system.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Right now, what is considered to be collaborative care.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yeah, that's one of the programs that we have been championing.
It's an initiative that Blue Cross is sponsoring in concert
with primary care physicians all across the state. What collaborative
care does is it allows primary care doctors to better
integrate mental health care services into their practices, and that

(06:25):
means that patients when they go in to see their
primary care physician, have more direct access to behavioral health
care services in their primary care doctor's office, which is
really important. It allows for that one stop where you're
talking to your primary care physician about depression and anxiety

(06:45):
and those types of concerns that you have, and if
those concerns are very serious, your primary care physician, if
they participate in collaborative care, can direct you to a
service in that primary care doctor's office to help address
those concerns immediately.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Are there many of them across Michigan collaborative care doctors.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yes, we launched this program a couple of years ago,
but there are already three hundred and twenty primary care
and eighteen obgyn practices in Michigan that are designated by
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as collaborative care practices.
And again for patients, what that means is less time,
you know finding access to mental health care services, navigating

(07:29):
a complicated and expensive health care system, and more time
receiving the care they need in the familiar setting, which
is very comfortable of their primary care doctor's office.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
You said the word expensive. Does that care model reduce
the patient health care costs?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Yeah, it improves the experience and it does reduce the
cost by reducing administrative costs and the associated costs that
come with that. It promotes better detection and treatment of
mental health care concerns, and it reduces the need for
more costly services down the road. If you can get
your mental health care concerns addressed in your primary care
doctor's office, you can help avoid more expensive treatment down

(08:07):
the road, and that's what we're trying to do.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
We appreciate that very much and the eye opener that
you give us every week and more often on this program.
We hear your voice every single day as part of
this broadcast, and that means it invites people to reach
out and learn more about not only their own health,
but the state of healthcare. And the Blue Cross app
and the various websites can help you do that. Mibluedaily
