Speaker 1 (00:30):
Perti, Michael Patrick shields with you on radio stations across
the state of Michigan and worldwide at m I Big
Show dot Com. We welcome Brett mcwethee to our AT
and T studio here at the Godfrey Hotel in downtown Detroit.
This is your domain and thank you for having us.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Thank you for being here, Michael Patrick steels. We appreciate
the support and your partnership. And yeah, it's a beautiful
day in downtown Detroit. He's getting ready for the holidays.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Fantastic. We've been spending days in the city here. We
were at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's Lobby broadcasting
yesterday and this is a pretty nice set here at
a god for you hotel.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yeah, it's one of our one of our go hotels,
go to hotels obviously in the city. And obviously I
know you're talking a lot about Corktown and everything that
that it offers. It was amazing getting off the love
this morning and seeing Michigan Central lit up the way
that it was.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Like a jewel box used to look like a tombstone.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Exactly, and we often say that, you know, it was
vacant for decades and it's been it's been rescued and
revived and now it's just an innovation hub right in
here in the heart of the city.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
My little son, Harrison, who's now an attorney, used to
be fascinated by that train station when it looked like
a haunted house.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
What is that?
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Because we'd go down to court. What is that? Now?
Can you imagine in his lifetime what it's become right
before his eyes?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, I know, decades upon decades, and you know now
it's going to be one of the crown jewels for
years to come.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
So we're super excited about it.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
It is beautiful. And was that you requesting Dominic the donkey?
Is that what I heard? The Italian Christmas song? Is
that what you were asking?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
You know what? I think it was on the request
It was on It was on the short list.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Tony Cuffer. It's going to grant it to you right.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Now, Tony. He's on the ones and twos.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
The Italian Christmas Donkey and God forbid that song is
going through claud Mullinery's phone into Milan right now, where
he is the president and CEO of Visit Detroit, who
just landed in Italy and a month and a half ago,
I broadcast from Milan.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
That's what I heard NH City Life Hotel, which is
the American headquarters for the broadcasters for the Olympics, because
the media center is right across the street. So I
like to say that was the first broadcast of the
American coverage of the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
This broaduct. There you go, you were out in front
of it. Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
And now as we broadcast from downtown Detroit, which we'll
have the NCUBA Final four exactly. Can we call this
the first broadcast coverage of the NCUBA Final.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Let's do it. I think this makes it official.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, absolutely, And I know Claude's looking forward to join
you later.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I think he's he's on.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
The line right now calling in from Milan. If you
can believe that. Bon jorno, Claude, don jorno.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
It's so good to talk to Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
It's probably bonos, Sara by the time we're talking to you. Yeah,
twelve noon here, high noon and Milan. He just landed,
just stuffed off the plane. And what will your mission be?
Are you going to sort of check out the preparation
for the Olympics and compare that and contrast it to
preparation for the Final four here or what's your mission
in Milan.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
So, Michael, as you know, we're trying to grow our
attendants base to visitors coming to the United States from
Europe and specifically Italy is one of our key destinations.
And I'm here meeting with media groups to discuss Detroit
as a great destination. And then I'm meeting with group
tour operators and travel agents to build itineraries and get
people from Italy to visit Detroit and really show what
(03:42):
we are all about.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
So if you were to go down to say the
Domo and maybe wander through that gallery of Vittorio Emmanuel
and say, I know you like this, let me show
you the version of this in Detroit. Would it be
Campus Marshas Where would it be?
Speaker 5 (04:01):
Oh, I could be this Saint Mary's Old Saint Mary's Church,
and in Greek Town it could be got some beautiful
churches all throughout Southeast Michigan. And then of course, you
know it's just our beautiful downtown and our Midtown and Corktown.
I mean, there's so many things to see and do.
And again I think that we're really you know, with
(04:22):
our partnership with the Italian football club Uventus. We've really
built up an incredible amount of interest in Detroit. Just
to give you an idea from Italy, our website, traffic
official detroit dot com since this partnership was announced, has
gone up like over six hundred percent.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Six hundred Well, that's amazing and congratulations to you on
the foresight and the vision to do that. And there
is an automotive sort of connection too. If you are
wandering around in that galleria, there's a big Ferrari store.
And one thing that I noticed at the Ferrari store
is even when they're closed at night, they have a
kiosk where you can put your card in and buy
a model Ferrari. You can pick like you're picking out
(05:03):
a cigarette machine or a candy machine. So maybe at
the train station at Ford over there, you know, we
could have one of those kiosks with models of Fords
coming out of it. You can bring that idea home
with you if you like.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. And you know,
again with you know, Seat being part of this Dealantis
brand and is the Italian or Turin is the Italian
motor capital in Detroit's the world's motor capital. It makes
a lot of sense. There's a lot of synergy, and
we've got great affinity for our Italian friends and we're
looking forward to hosting several thousand of them over the
(05:39):
next couple of years.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Do you have a Powerball ticket for tonight? Because it's
one point two five billion dollars and I know you
were in Los Angeles for the Lions game, so I
don't know if you've got one for tonight or not.
But if you don't, I have one and I'll put
your name on it.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Okay, Well that would be great, Michael Patrick Shields. I
appreciate that a nice billion dollars would come in handy,
you know, as if I was able to get it.
And yeah, a little bit of a nine time zone
difference between LA and and UH and Milan, but I'm
hanging in there.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Can I trust Brett with the ticket to hold it
for you if I give it to him right now?
Speaker 5 (06:16):
Oh yeah, yeah, he's very trustworthy, great guy.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Okay, he just handed to me. Claude. We're in good
We're in good shape.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Just to get this on the record, would you read
the numbers on the air, I'm.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Going to pass on that.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Oh you know what, someone else, run out and play it.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
That's right, Yeah, I know a game you're playing there?
Speaker 1 (06:33):
There it is you're all locked in. What a day
you're going to have? And how long? By the way,
Oh there's there we go.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
That's live radio.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It's not boy, he's a man on the move though.
He went to see the lions out there and support
the do Dragon lions, and then he flew from there
all the way to Milan.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
The good thing is he's great at sleeping on planes.
I can attest to that. So that's probably nice and refreshed. Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
I guess so's he's landed and I'm sure he's ready
to go. But yeah, we're you were excited about it'll.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Is a primary market for Detroit as we enter up
really in ernest in twenty twenty six, and a lot
of moment on that side.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Another thing we can be very proud of in Detroit
as our airport consistently ranks high.
Speaker 2 (07:11):

it is, walkable, clean, efficient, So we're thankful for the
good folks at dtw.
