Speaker 1 (00:03):
Jane's Addiction has announced they are breaking up. The band
shared a post to its Instagram on Wednesday to inform
fans of the split and further explain the immediate aftermath
of the brawl between members Perry Ferrell and Dave Navarro
in September twenty twenty four. They acknowledged members made inaccurate
statements about Farrell's mental health at the time, and revealed
(00:26):
they recently reconvene to resolve their differences. Despite the reunion,
members will now focus on their solo music careers, but
noted Jane's Addiction will forever live in their hearts. Former
Chief People Officer for Astronomer Kristen Cabot says she's not
dating her old boss after the two unintentionally went viral
at a Coldplay concert on social media over the summer.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Cabot and ex Astronomer CEO Andy Byron are not dating,
despite creating an internet frenzy when they were caught getting
cozy at the concert. She confirmed the news while opening
up about her life after the incident with The New
York Times and admitted she made a bad decision and
had a couple of high noons leading to the moment
spotted in the video.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
A Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Pete Davidson is now a dad. The Saturday Night Live
star and his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt announced over the summer
that she was pregnant. On Thursday, the twenty nine year
old actress posted a series of photos on Instagram of
her and Davidson holding their newborn daughter, named Scottie Rose
Hewitt Davidson, that's entertainment.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I'm Jackal and Carl Say Besspring.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
I listening in the lake snow, was.
Speaker 6 (01:42):
Listening a beautiful sun, happy.
Speaker 7 (01:45):
Tonight, walking in a new Monday.
Speaker 8 (01:49):
Don't know a He's a blue bird, heides.
Speaker 9 (01:53):
Name ned say.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
We stroll alone in winter.
Speaker 8 (02:02):
The fantastic and beautiful Jennifer Hudson Jay Hut at Christmas
Time with Michael Patrick Shields through the AT and T microphones.
Live at fire Keeper's Casino and Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan,
where we're heard on WKZ. Oh it's MPs. Tony Cuthbert
is here. And you know what I want to do today?
I want to go to Westland and join in a hunt.
(02:23):
Not hunting deer. Police in Westland are hunting for a person,
and I wouldn't mind going there and helping them to
tell you the truth. I don't know if I could
help much, but I would try. Why would I do that?
And who are they hunting? Somebody shot and killed a
Salvation Army bell ringer outside of a grocery store last night.
(02:46):
It was a Kroger store six point thirty in the
evening on Ford Road. I've driven down that road in
the parking lot and it's a teenage boy and known
names have been released. I wouldn't mind going to hunt
and find that person. Not a very Christian thing to say,
(03:08):
but justice in this case will never be done for
such a heinous crime. Here's another one, another loser of
the day. A thirty one year old Ferndale man's got
several charges for crashing his car driving while drunk. Well,
that's not that unusual. The unusual part is he was
(03:30):
trying to use his child as a shield against Warren police.
The body cam shows Otez Coyle it's in the morning too,
trying to escape after crashing his SUV in the on
ramp of six ninety six at eleven mile. I've driven
through there and you have too. He sped away from
(03:50):
the police who were trying to stop him for a
erratic driving going eighty miles an hour. Then he crashed
into the barricade. Could get ten years in prison. Okay,
So there, I got that vitrioll out. But that's okay.
I'm looking at the USA today, Gannette Newspapers this morning
in an article it's okay not to be okay during
(04:11):
the holidays. Being emotionally overwhelmed is not a personal failure.
It's a signal and acknowledging that well. It doesn't mean
you're being negative. It means you're being honest. For some people,
the season is hard. Listen to what your feelings are
signaling to you during the season. The internal dissonance of
(04:32):
wanting to be joyful but not feeling it can make
you feel isolated. Everyone else is having such a great time,
why not you? So there's an article there how to
help yourself and others. We often talk to doctor Heather
Zach on that show about this, and we encourage you
too to reach out. And Blue Cross Blue Shield of
(04:53):
Michigan has you covered head to toe, inside and out,
ready to help with health and wellness resources for the
body and the mind, and you can learn more at
BCBSM dot com. Traveling might be stressful for you. And
there's an article here by Nicole Russell. Don't you think
it's past time to abolish the TSA and start over.
(05:17):
They agree in the article that you know, there's a
need for safety at the airports, but the TSA no
longer makes sense. It should be abolished and something new.
You know, removing your shoes for two decades and then
invasive pat downs and all of that stuff. It was
all created in response to the September eleventh attacks back
(05:38):
in two thousand and one. But in twenty fifteen the
TSA had a ninety five percent failure rate, and in
twenty seventeen it was eighty percent. I guess they test
it and the TSA causes delays and long lines, and
they say their security checks but they miss dangerous and
prohibited items. Who was it? Got their guns taken?
Speaker 10 (06:00):
That was it?
Speaker 8 (06:01):
Lee Chatfield?
Speaker 11 (06:03):
Lee Chaffield, Helston Northern Michigan.
Speaker 8 (06:05):
Yes, said he accidentally brought a gun in his Uh.
That was the least of his problems at the time.
It seems like anyway, if you are going through TSA,
there's another article in the very same paper certain gifts
you won't be able to bring through TSA if you're
traveling with holiday gifts. I brought a lot of those
white elephant gifts to the Christmas show through the TSA,
(06:27):
but they were all pretty harmless.
Speaker 11 (06:29):
They didn't want them either.
Speaker 8 (06:32):
Should we take these? No, please get them out of here.
Put your gifts in gift bags or gift boxes with
tissue paper instead of wrapping them with paper and tape.
They really don't want you to wrap them in case
they have to open them, like I don't know if
you're bringing somebody a hair dryer or whatever it might be.
(06:52):
Also wrap lithium batteries. All kinds of batteries other than
lithium can go through the checkpoint, but loose lithium batteries
are prohibited in checked bags. They don't want the batteries
down there because if they explode and catch fire in
the hold, no one will know for a long time.
If you have it in your carryon bag, then it'll
probably be okay. Fire Keepers Casino is where we are
(07:16):
right now, and we're not alone at this hour of
the morning. There's a nice to see you. Baked goods, cakes, cookies, pies,
fruit cake and brownies are permitted through the security checkpoint.
I guess unless you buy them at the airport. Maple
syrup Tim McGuire likes to give away maple syrup, champagne
(07:37):
and eggnog need to be packed in a checked bag
as liquids aren't allowed, so you can put them down below.
But you're not gonna eat syrup on the flight. I guess.
I don't know if you can spill it or spread
it or spray it, pump it or pour it larger
than three point four ounces. It has to be checked,
not carried on. So they have an item, you know,
(07:58):
like you might take a snowglae that might violate it.
So what can I bring? Page on the TSA homepage
can help you. And you can tweet at ask TSA
if you're not sure and you want to know. And
if you're traveling, I say pack your patients. That's what
Nicole and Oil Williams always says. The CEO of Capital
Region International Airport fly Lansing dot com. And if you're
(08:20):
going to Detroit, I would start at visit Detroit dot
com and you can plan your trip right there too.
And you can read my columns at the LSJ dot
com or go world Travel dot com about travel, and
my latest book, travel Tattler Less than Torrid Tales, is
available at Amazon dot com. Someone I met on a
cruise two weeks ago bought Invite Yourself to the Party
(08:42):
through the Internet and he wrote me He's from Houston.
He hey, I'm joined that book. I thought we was
the son of a gun. It actually does work. Glad
he liked it and hope you will too. Through the
AT and T microphones at fire Keepers Casino, It's Michael
Patrick Shields.
Speaker 12 (08:59):
A Danish study is shedding light on warning signs for
Alzheimer's disease. The study, published in the journal Nature, focused
on blood samples taken from participants ages fifty seven and up.
It looked for the buildup of toxic proteins in the brain,
which are a major indicator for the potential development of Alzheimer's.
Researchers say there were abnormal findings in less than eight
(09:21):
percent of participants ages sixty five to sixty nine, but
more than sixty percent of people in their nineties. The
study also contradicted the widely held belief that Alzheimer's is
a female dominant problem, and the study shows that reading
for pleasure among Americans has dropped by forty percent over
the last two decades. Researchers at the University of Florida
(09:43):
and University College London did a reading survey published in
the journal Science Health. Experts say studies show reading reduces stress,
improves cognitive skills, and helps with relaxation. Health update. I'm
Sarah le Kessler.
Speaker 8 (10:25):
Can you use that microphone to welcome our guests who
came here to fire yours casino? Oh? Who doesn't want
to go your microphone shy? Thank you very much for
coming here. Though from Marshall, I said, living in Marshall

you get more of the things you want most, more
local produce, more home decor, more free prescriptions, and more importantly,
you get them all for less app Meyer. And this

for keeping me company in the morning with this beautiful
(11:08):
card and this lottery ticket and I will I will
in exchange give you a powerball ticket for one point
five billion on Saturday night. But you sure touch my heart.
And I wonder where have you traveled to? And where
are you going?
Speaker 13 (11:24):
India?
Speaker 11 (11:25):
We need a mike, We need a mic, we need
a bike. This is fascinating.
Speaker 8 (11:28):
It's all right. He's been to India and Romania. And
what about in twenty twenty six and he plans yet
not yet cruises Eastern Europe, cruises woh, Michigan. Lot of
fire keepers here to visit with us. Thank you so much?
How sweet, very very sweet, and listening. I'm sure on
wkzo and kalamazoo or through the streaming now if I

hosting the rest of the way. Or we'll ride off
into the sunset together. I'll take caf and I'm out
it's after taxes.
Speaker 14 (12:03):
Or be.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
How sweet? This is the coolest thing ever that somebody
came a thief, came from Marshall here to fire Keepers
Casino to see the show and listens. Please let us
know when you travel. I gave you my card with
my text and email. We want to hear your travel
stories please, because I travel and I write about it

to Jeffrey Epstein. That deadline set under the Epstein Files
Transparency Act passed by Congress last month. Epstein, who committed
suicide in custody in twenty nineteen, spent years brushing shoulders
with many of the world's elite. Some parts of the
files may still be redacted. The man hunt for the

Speaker 17 (13:48):
The suspect found dead with a satchel and two firearms
in his car, had evidence that matched the scene in
Providence where two people were killed nine others injured in
the university shooting that took place Saturday.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Mayor Brett Smiley.
Speaker 19 (14:01):
Tonight, our Providence neighbors can finally breathe a little easier.
Speaker 5 (14:05):
I'm Jennifer Bulsony.
Speaker 16 (14:07):
Washington's Kennedy Center is getting a new name. White House
Press Secretary Caroline Levitt saying the center's boards voted unanimously
to rename it the Trump Kennedy Center. Levitt says that's
due to the unbelievable work President Trump has done over
the last year in saving the building. A bill that
aims to speed up infrastructure and energy projects is headed
(14:27):
to the Senate. The Speed Act past the House Wednesday.
It's expected to bolster infrastructure projects by decreasing the amount
of scrutiny their environmental impacts face. A bipartisan group of
lawmakers has been working for years to strike a deal
on the matter. Reports say to get Republican hardliners on
board a deal. This version's passed with the addition of
(14:47):
a new anti wind amendment, though that addition could make
it more difficult to secure passage in the Senate. Scott
car NBC News Radio.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Adobe is the latest AI innovator to get hit with
a lawsuit by a book's author. Writer Elizabeth Lyon, claims
the company stole her work to train Adobe's slim LM model.
Writer says that her lawsuit is seeking class action status.

I'm Mark Mayfield, dreaming of a Why.

the tree tops listen and children listen to Leslie bells

Speaker 8 (16:42):
Jim Wise is in the house. He is well, he's
the master of the house. He's always in the house.
Vice President of Marketing at fire Keepers Casino, Tony Cuthbert
is here. It's Michael Patrick Shields with you on the
money Keeper's main stage. Thank you for being here, and
more to point, thanks for having us.
Speaker 13 (16:57):
Hey, it's always our honor.
Speaker 20 (16:59):
Uh this is It's the perfect day to have you
here because a we can talk about all the things
upcoming at fire Keepers between Christmas and New Year's. Plus,
today's a special day for everybody here at fire Keepers
because our owners, the not Alycepi hero On Band of
the Potawotomy, are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary of federal recognition.
(17:19):
So this day, today and tomorrow is going to be
a special weekend for the tribe. They have a number
of events here at the casino to celebrate that, and
we're so excited for them that they're going to have
this special weekend and this celebration. So these are exciting
days at fire Keepers, not only because of all the
(17:39):
things we have, but because of what our owners have
been able to do and accomplish, and the fact that
they deliver not only a great resort, but they pay
two thousand employees, contribute millions to state and local and
they do so many good things for tribal members as
far as things like healthcare and education, et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 13 (18:00):
MiG Witch, Absolutely, that's very good. You are well prepared
as always.
Speaker 8 (18:06):
Fife asked me how I learned Italian, and I'm like,
I'm not sure I've actually learned it, but I trot
it out when I can, and they're appreciate that. Now
I've got good news.
Speaker 13 (18:15):
For you, all right, I like it.
Speaker 8 (18:16):
We have a convert among us at this table right now.
Speaker 13 (18:19):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (18:20):
Last night Tony Cuthbert and the orchestra actually tried two
new things, well three. He went to your new Embers
bar up front, which we all love it. It's like
a jewel right in front of the place. And then
he and his wife Christy went to the noodle bar.
Oh they did what's the real name for it?
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Is it?
Speaker 8 (18:36):
Eight fortunate fortunate noodle bar, and he's going to give
a restaurant if you Now his mother is in the
culinary business.
Speaker 13 (18:42):
Oh okay, can you handle it if you gives you Yes.
Speaker 21 (18:46):
So let me just say, my wife is a very
picky eater, and she's also one gluten free kind you.
Speaker 11 (18:53):
So when we walked in.
Speaker 21 (18:54):
There, she was able to spot an item on the
menu with zero fear whatsoever for her allergy, let's say.
Speaker 11 (19:01):
And she had her meal, loved it it. Oh my gosh,
it heads it was noodles.
Speaker 21 (19:10):
It was a rice noodles, for example. So she's safe
to eat that. All good, loaded with veggies and chicken.
It was top notch. I had the I don't even
know how to pronounce it, bb map, bbie mop.
Speaker 11 (19:21):
I don't know what it was.
Speaker 21 (19:22):
I've had it before from some other places. This was
far superior. Loved it, two thumbs up for sure on it.
Speaker 11 (19:28):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
That's the intriguing thing to me is he's he was
going to go to Needy and he said, do you
want to meet us at Needy? I said, have your
honeymoon night a little bit and I'll come. I'll float
intoward dessert. And then he said, change of plans, we're
going to the noodle bar.
Speaker 21 (19:44):
Okay, it was the rice noodles. When she spotted that
on the menu, She's like, we can do this.
Speaker 13 (19:49):
This is comfortable.
Speaker 11 (19:50):
I'm all about it as well.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
And it was fast.
Speaker 21 (19:53):
It was very very quick, and we were able to
dine just outside and sitting next to tables. People were
having a good time. It was like a party atmosphere.
Speaker 8 (20:02):
I loved it.
Speaker 11 (20:02):
It was great.
Speaker 8 (20:03):
That's awesome, Yeah, he was, well, that's because part of
noodle Bar feels like it's actually the gaming floor, and it.
Speaker 20 (20:08):
Came in when we put in those additional mini baccarad tables.
So I know you're saying, you know, it's a little
hard to see sometimes, so I understand that, you know,
to find Fortune eight can be a little bit tricky
if you're not walking in exactly the right direction.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
That's where the old Nebe was.
Speaker 13 (20:25):
It's where the old Niebe used to be correct perfectly right.
Speaker 20 (20:27):
So it's right there with those miniboc games, and we
encourage people to come check it out for that reason.
Not only is the food good, but man, you can
get your food and get on your way, and you know,
a lot of trips when you're not staying in the
hotel or based on time. Hey, I got here at
five o'clock, but I know I got to be out
at whatever. I got here at six o'clock, but I
(20:48):
got to be gone by eleven, and I want to
mix in my gaming and have a beverage and get
something to eat. So you know, for some people, taking
your time and having a more traditional meal is great,
and for some it's like, you know what, I gotta
try to maximize my other time.
Speaker 13 (21:03):
So let's try to pick up the pace on the food.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
Can you eat noodles at the bakra table?
Speaker 20 (21:08):
Well, you know, we try to keep this so here's
kind of the rub. Now you think that's funny. You know,
we try to keep this four diamond resort look by
the same token.
Speaker 13 (21:21):
I mean, we're not stopping you, you know, but it
can get a little messy.
Speaker 20 (21:28):
If you're here late at night, you will see people
with like a pizza from Chimani's, yes, and there'll be
sneaking bites on a slot machine or a table game
and kind of keeping the box under their feet or down,
you know, down at their feet and then they're grabbing
some pizza.
Speaker 13 (21:44):
So you know, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Speaker 20 (21:46):
I guess I understand that, but you try to keep
that fine line of we want people coming and going, wow,
this place is spotless, and sometimes that's a little trickier
when you got people eating at the games.
Speaker 8 (21:57):
I think that's one of the fun things about the
noodle Bar is that when you're at a table on
the outside, you you feel like you're sitting on the
gaming player.
Speaker 13 (22:05):
You getting some of that excitement from the minibac.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
Also, the team goes for Daisy sportsbook. Right, you're not
removed from the casino atmosphere, so neybe you are because
that's what it's designed to be. Right that it is
it is.
Speaker 20 (22:17):
It's designed to be a complete getaway and an exclusive experience.
Speaker 8 (22:21):
And again Deliver can go there without going to.
Speaker 13 (22:24):
The correct correct you can come in the hotel entrance.
That was always a challenge before.
Speaker 20 (22:29):
Oh we're having a uh you know, engagement party or
an anniversary party, your graduation or something, you know, and
we have a private dining area there, so you could
take that. If you had ten or twelve people and
you want to do something special, then we have a
private dining.
Speaker 13 (22:46):
Area and you're not even part of the rest of
the restaurant.
Speaker 20 (22:48):
So you know, there's a lot of options there now
that we never really had before.
Speaker 8 (22:53):
Now. The other conversion is for the first time Tony
Cuthbert sat down at a blackjack table yesterday, really his
first table game of anything, not even he didn't even
start with roulette.
Speaker 13 (23:04):
It's such a probably, man, I'm surprised that this is down.
Speaker 8 (23:08):
And this was at around nine o'clock at night, okay,
and he just got to the set this morning.
Speaker 13 (23:15):
They pulled him off at that point.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
He's like, we've maybe created a monster.
Speaker 13 (23:19):
You must leave.
Speaker 21 (23:20):
So I must say, though, I had a base knowledge
for a lot of these games, but we've been doing
these different training sessions eats it every Monday with your
fantastic staff of course set up by Kinesha. Yeah, and
they're all available atmibig show dot com. That's where I
was able to gain the confidence and build it up
and have more of that build on the base knowledge.
So I sat at the table with some semblance of confidence.
Speaker 8 (23:41):
Don't you say what happened yet, We'll do it as
a Cliffhank got it. Next hour, we'll find out what
happened in the maiden voyage of Tony Cutter at black check,
because isn't it an adage that usually the first timers are.
Speaker 20 (23:54):
Lucky, especially at dice, man, you get you get somebody
who comes up and is like, what do I do
with these things?
Speaker 13 (24:01):
Or how far do I throw them?
Speaker 20 (24:03):
You'll see people like reaching into their pocket to get
an extra twenty bucks to get down on that bet. So, yes,
you're a first timer, especially at dice, but I would
assume black jack's the same.
Speaker 13 (24:13):
We're assuming early luck in the process.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
It's early fief. Have you wont any money here yet
this morning? Not yet? But she said yet.
Speaker 13 (24:21):
That's the thing. I like that optimistic.
Speaker 8 (24:23):
I noticed quickly the table games are have black felt though.
Speaker 13 (24:28):
Yeah, some of that is simply some new and different designs.
Speaker 20 (24:31):
Now, the great thing about the Minibox is we will
often do completely new based on the year theme. So
for example, I think I think the new year and
correct me if I'm wrong, is you're of the horse.
Speaker 13 (24:46):
I think we had snake this year. So we did
a design.
Speaker 8 (24:51):
Well, it's eye catching and I've got some more questions
for you. I reserved the right to recall you. He's
not sworn in, but he's a true blue friend, Jim
wise 's Fuck.

When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only seeing.
Speaker 15 (26:05):
Part of the picture.
Speaker 8 (26:06):
The truth is our health insurance costs reside downstream at
the end of the cost equation. But to really understand
what's driving up costs, we need to look upstream to
the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there are costs like the
price is charged by hospitals and doctors, and the cost
of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology. These costs flow

downstream directly into your health insurance premium. That's why Blue
Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is advocating for a system
wide solution to address the rising cost of healthcare. Blue
Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs to work for everyone,
and affordability matters, and that starts with shedding light on
the entire cost equation, from upstream costs to downstream premiums.

INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. The clock is ticking
on the Trump administration to release the long awaited Jeffrey
Epstein files by midnight to night. The deadline comes under
a new transparency law passed by Congress to make public
the records that are tied to the late sex offender.
President Trump is using marijuana restrictions. Lisa Carton has the story.
Speaker 24 (27:21):
He signed an executive order switching the drug from a
Schedule one to a Schedule three, reclassifying it as less dangerous.
Speaker 14 (27:29):
Does it legalize marijuana in any way, shape or form,
and in no way sanctions its use as a recreational drug.
Speaker 24 (27:37):
Instead, Trump said it will help many Americans dealing with
extreme pain and other serious medical conditions. Marijuana has been
in the same category as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD.
Speaker 2 (27:48):
I'm Lisa Carton, and the Kennedy Center is getting a
new name after its board voted to rebrand it as
the Trump Kennedy Center. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 8 (28:24):
Thank you this morning to Jennifer Hudson with her music
and it's Michael Patrick Shields live from the money Keeper's
main stage, and I am about five feet above the
gaming floor and Tony Cuthbert to sort of tell a
tale out of school. We started the broadcast to performance
at six am this morning, and by that time I
(28:46):
was twenty five dollars up because there's a five dollars
table with an eyeshot of here. Now you don't always
get so maybe you do here in the morning, but
a five dollars table seems like a kind of a
rare thing to come across these days.
Speaker 13 (29:01):
It is, but we try in those off hours to
cater to the guests.
Speaker 20 (29:05):
So we do some things on a Wednesday where we'll
offer five dollars games as part of a special throughout
the day.
Speaker 13 (29:12):
And again I think it's smart.
Speaker 20 (29:14):
I mean, the casino has its modest amount of occupants
at four and five ams, why not cater to the guests,
So we try to do that.
Speaker 13 (29:23):
On the table side especially, it was great fun.
Speaker 8 (29:25):
And also I noticed there were some other games on
that table that I hadn't seen before, like a bet
where if you think the dealer is gonna lose, you
can put a little more money out without taking a hit.
It's not a double.
Speaker 13 (29:37):
Down, you know what.
Speaker 20 (29:39):
The amount of side bets come and in some cases
go really on a as frequent a basis as sometimes
you see a slot machine being rolled in and a
couple of months later it just didn't click and it's
rolled back out again.
Speaker 13 (29:53):
So side bets come and go and are always changing.
Speaker 8 (29:56):
Yeah, and I noticed the sixteen is a push, okay,
to offset the ability to put more money out. That's
what it was. And this is why it was nice
to come in the middle of the night because you
could in a non stressful way talk to the dealer about,
you know, how does this all work.
Speaker 20 (30:12):
There's a new game where you'd literally get one card
and then you can decide every time if you want
to double before you even get your second card. So
let's say you get a ten and the dealer, you
know whatever, you can double immediately before you even to
just to get your second card. Now you don't have to,
you can just take a normal second card, but they
(30:32):
give you one card and the dealer will come around
and give you a chance to double immediately on the spot.
So there's a lot of derivatives and kind of nuance
now coming even to what would seem like a standard game.
Speaker 8 (30:43):
Out near the front near Embers the new bar. I
saw a new version of baccarat and had a different series.
Speaker 20 (30:49):
Of odds, and I think again a lot of that
is in addition to the standard game. So I would
say that's kind of a standard game. Plus you know
again side bets and we're trying to get you know
the it's always exciting when you come up and you see, oh,
there's a six hundred thousand dollars side bet jackpot or
an eight hundred thousand dollars side bet jackpot.
Speaker 13 (31:10):
So people are attracted to those, so we put them
out there.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Tony Cuthbert, could you pull out your Red Hot Rewards card? Sure,
do you have one?
Speaker 11 (31:19):
It's in my it's in the room. There you go, eh,
I'm really good at that.
Speaker 8 (31:23):
This is true. It's true. Dustin plane. When you walk
into fire Keepers, you now have the new Landing Embers Bar,
which is beautiful. But right to the left you have
the Red Hot Rewards Club desk. Why should people stop there? First?
Great question.
Speaker 25 (31:40):
We'd love to have you sign up for a Red
Hot Rewards Card because we can give you back all
the perks that you deserve with your play at the casino.
If you're gonna play and you're gonna come and enjoy
your time with us, get a card and we can
we can give you some incentives that come with that.
You're gonna get some discounts at our gift shops and
our restaurants right off the bad Our, our pit stop
gas station, but also we're gonna be able to give
you some incentives, some points back on your cards while
you play, and potentially some offers down the road from
(32:02):
that card.
Speaker 8 (32:03):
So Tony is an expert in beer, and because we're
here in the Calamazoo area and I think he, you know,
went in Rome. Do you like the room he had too? Uh? Well,
I don't know how many. Let's just say he had
a Bell's oberon when I saw him yesterday.
Speaker 11 (32:17):
Too hearted. Let's be too hearted.
Speaker 8 (32:18):
It's past summer now. Because you had your Red Hot
Rewards card. How much did that cost? How much would
that cost at Embers?
Speaker 11 (32:28):
It was it was very minimal.
Speaker 8 (32:29):
I can tell you that.
Speaker 26 (32:30):
Well, we don't have an Embers discount, but that that
too heart. It is a delicious selection.
Speaker 8 (32:34):
So there's no question to say the prices there are there.
I thought we were getting discounts.
Speaker 25 (32:39):
We do have an Embers special right now. We do
have an Embers drink special. That's a it's a four
dollars drink special. That's really tasty if you have an
interest in that, but really cool bar up there.
Speaker 8 (32:47):
I saw it. It's a it's a it's its own cocktail.
It is it's fancy looking. You know what's in it.
We'll find out later from Chef James. Maybe the reason
I'm shocked is that means the prices I paid for
two hours sitting with Jim Trebilcock yesterday at Embers when
I walked in, those are the prices. It's not very
expensive here at all to have drinks.
Speaker 25 (33:10):
No, we try not to try not to golledge anybody
on anything like that. The a lot of good selections here,
and as he noticed up there at umbers.
Speaker 26 (33:17):
Really good, really good draft options, especially from.
Speaker 8 (33:20):
The local markets. Another thing you can do with that
card that's very near the desk, as I saw, is
they have a kiosk you do at fire keepers where
you can take your card find out what's on there.
Speaker 26 (33:30):
Absolutely, we got some promotional kiosks around the casino floor.
Speaker 25 (33:33):
So if you want to see what your current offers are,
or how many entries you have for the upcoming drawing,
or what those drawing details are, we've got them accessible
to you.
Speaker 8 (33:40):
There's a car out front there too.
Speaker 11 (33:42):
Oh it's a Bronco.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
Yeah, when's that rolling out the door? That's a Strap
edition Bronco. It's beautiful too.
Speaker 25 (33:48):
I don't know if you notice the color scheme on
that thing we did. What's the work to get that vehicle?
It's beautiful.
Speaker 8 (33:53):
That's going to be given to somebody who is a
Red Hot Rewards member for sure?
Speaker 18 (33:57):
Is it?
Speaker 20 (33:58):
The twenty sixth, twenty seven seventh, the day after Boxing
Day twenty seventh, two to six pm. Every two hours,
two winners will be selected to win up to ten
grand cash. Eight o'clock one winner will be selected to
receive fifteen grand cash. And then we're going to give
away that Strope editioned Bronco at ten pm. And you
commit on Wednesdays, you get double entries.
Speaker 8 (34:19):
I think if fief Dylan were to win that and
she lives in Marshall, she'd probably drive, say, all the
way to Traverse City and back, because you know that's
only five miles or so to Marshall.
Speaker 13 (34:28):
That's not enough about all we got to get her
out in the show experienced Michigan super cool.
Speaker 8 (34:33):
Okay, So well, by the way, if you're a federal worker,
we found out yesterday that President Trump has decided the
day of before Christmas and the day after are going
to be federal holidays now, so therefore more time to
come to FireKeepers play around if you're a federal worker.
Usually it was kind of one or the other, and
we don't have Boxing Day in the States, but we
(34:54):
do now. You can do your shopping too at fire
Keepers Casino. Plenty of options for that, and you can
use your Red Hot Rewards credits I think in the
gift shop too, if you have enough and you want to.
Speaker 25 (35:07):
Yeah, absolutely, you can use your points if you have
points on your card at Sarosky, and you're gonna get
a ten percent discount in there as well with your
Red Out Rewards card. And we got some additional winter
holiday discounts in there and some really cool inventories. So
we encourage folks to get in there to take a
look at some of the shop, dine, game, watch sports,
It's Heaven, fire Keepers Casino, and Battle Cree.

a few hours away from one of the first college
playoff games. I would like to hear you and Tony
Kupfert talk sports.
Speaker 21 (38:32):
Oh my goodness, this is a day for football, There
is no question about it. So tonight we do have
Alabama and Oklahoma. How is this game going to work out?
If Alabama loses? That's my big question.
Speaker 20 (38:43):
Absolutely, all the Kaitlin de Boor questions will arise. I
think Alabama people are nervous because on one hand, they
say losing three games in a year and potentially a
fourth tonight like that's unheard of. But do we really
want to lose the coach? And then we got to
go find somebody else? So a lot happening there.
Speaker 21 (39:01):
Big choose to fill. No question for Nick Saban. Now,
these two teams did meet in November and it was
the Sooners beating the tie twenty three to twenty one,
so there is that. Also, Western Michigan will clash with
Kennesaw State today. It's the world famous Myrtle Beach Bowl
if you're interested in South Carolina's where that will take place.
Broncos went nine to four regular season and this is
(39:22):
their second straight bull appearance, so congratulations to them. Tomorrow
four PM McKenny, Texas fifteen and oh, Farris State takes
on fifteen and oh Harding. Tony Anist, the head coach
of Farris State, was quoted this week that he thought
it would be more favorable to take on Notre.
Speaker 11 (39:41):
Dame than Harding. Not making this up, he did say that.
Speaker 21 (39:45):
So it's the Division two National championship. Wines next coach,
and why not? Don't see it happening? He has a
obviously a He's been so successful at Farris State. I
just don't know if that could happen.
Speaker 13 (39:58):
In Western by the way, is a three and a
half point favorite.
Speaker 20 (40:01):
Oklahoma is the slight one and a half point favorite tonight.
Speaker 21 (40:06):
Okay the Lions, of course, they will wrap up their
home portion of their schedule this weekend as they welcome
Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers to Ford Field. This is
a must win for the Lions, as we know Pittsburgh.
They are positioned right now to be in the playoffs.
And Jim Nantz is on the call MPs. That was
confirmed obviously, so that's gonna be nice. And the nation
gets to watch this game last night if you missed it,
(40:27):
we had a thriller. I wish it was the Sunday
night game or the late Sunday afternoon game, but no,
it was on Amazon Prime last night as the Seattle
Seahawks in overtime beat the Rams thirty eight thirty seven MPs.
That's brought to you by Dean Transportation.
Speaker 8 (40:41):

is a holiday at fire keeper's Jim Wise, vice president
of marketing, is here too. It's Michael Patrick Shields. Chef.
James Thompson is the food and beverage manager at this facility,

which if you just had the restaurants and no gaming

Speaker 30 (50:45):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 8 (50:45):
Appreciate that, and believe me, I've tasted everything, even the
noodle bar yesterday, which is properly called Fortunate eight Fortune
eight noodle Bar yesterday, and Tony Cuthbert did the taste
test for us there yesterday. I want to just have
a premise dispelled and get your opinion as a chef. Okay,
you know when we hear these songs, like in Jennifer
(51:07):
Hudson's Christmas Song and other songs, they always talk about
home cooking. I think that's overrated. Why not leave it
to the professionals like you who are trained in the
culinary arts and restaurants. Home cooking can possibly compare to that,
can it?
Speaker 13 (51:24):
Well?
Speaker 30 (51:25):
The first thing I would never do is disparage Grandma's
cooking or my mother's cooking at all in any way,
shape or form. At the end of the day, every chef,
I believe is inspired by their family and what they
experienced while they were growing up and at home and
want to it was always cooked with love. And one
thing as a chef is when we make our creations,
(51:48):
it's made with love. At the end of the day,
we want every guest that comes in this building to
experience love from their food. One thing I've always told
a lot of team members as they've come up through
the industry, especially the casino. I enjoy gambling myself, and
I've been to Detroit, I've been to Toledo, I've been
to Mount Pleasant, been up north to the up where
(52:10):
I grew up. One thing I've noticed is you're gonna
find the same slot machines, the same blackjack table, same
poker rooms everywhere. What is going to separate fire keepers
casino that's gonna be the friendliest of the dealers, your
beverage servers, and at the end of the day, the
food that we can provide our guests. And I would
put our chefs on the talent level of any place
(52:30):
you're gonna find, not just in the state, but in
this area, in the in the.
Speaker 8 (52:34):
Midwest, with a number of very different options.
Speaker 30 (52:37):
Yes, we are able to provide so many different options.
Speaker 8 (52:41):
Fortunate noodle, fire, barbecue, barbecue.
Speaker 30 (52:46):
We have an American diner in Cafe twenty four to seven.
We also have our Chimonius in case you just want
a quick bite. I have hambur Burger, fresh made pizza.
Doze are made here on property. There's nothing that you're
gonna find here that out of a box frozen. We
have an entire bakery team. Everything, all the breads are
gonna find in every single restaurant, every dessert made from
(53:08):
scratch here on property.
Speaker 8 (53:10):
I had the opportunity to be with Massimo Baturo this year,
the chef, and I asked him, if you had one
more meal to eat, what would it be, And he said,
I would like my mother to come back to Earth
and cook a meal for me. Now that's pretty that's
what you're talking about. Yes, that's love.
Speaker 6 (53:27):
Mm hm.
Speaker 30 (53:27):
Yeah. My mother passed away when I was twenty five
years old. It's been almost twenty years. I would do
anything to have her pot roast the pot one more time.
Speaker 8 (53:36):
My mother happens to be sitting behind you, Gladys Shiels,
and what I remember from her cooking was a football Saturday,
she would make chili. She made something called lazy lasagna.
I remember that too. And actually she would fry Hamburger's
in a frying pan. And those are the three things
that I remember most about her cooking. Now, it's not
exactly gonna, you know, win the James Beard Award, but
(54:00):
but it was good at the time. You can talk,
she can't hear you.
Speaker 20 (54:07):
But food is so much about, right machine. It's what
you smelled when maybe you were in the other room
and those burgers were frying.
Speaker 8 (54:14):
Well, taste is smell, isn't it?
Speaker 30 (54:16):
Yes, it is. Is The first thing we taste with
is arnos.
Speaker 8 (54:20):
Yeah, well, I noticed that it says executive sooux chef
on your apron. But you are the food and beverage manager.
Speaker 30 (54:25):
I am the executive chef. You were unfortunately given wrong
information at some point, but apologize.
Speaker 8 (54:31):
All right. The chef means that there's somebody above you.
Speaker 30 (54:35):
There's always somebody.
Speaker 8 (54:36):
Did you wake them up and make them come at
this hour? You didn't have to do it, you know.
Speaker 30 (54:41):
That's the best thing about being the higher ups is
that you can delegate your duties to somebody else to
make sure that they can come in at seven in
the morning to be here.
Speaker 8 (54:49):
What would you recommend, you know, we're going to have
a New Year's Eve bash here at fire Keepers cause
heo knowing what you know about the culinary arts and
the science of it. The food, what would you recommend
as a good hangover dish in the morning after a
New year?
Speaker 30 (55:02):
Oh wow, if your heart is able to handle it,
you know, a good burger or in the morning fried eggs,
some bacon, some toasts, just something to kind of soak
in a little bit of the imbibments that you may
have on a New Year's ef.
Speaker 8 (55:17):
I shouldn't really do this on the air because I
haven't copyrighted it yet, but Jeff Heward at Spotlight came
up with an accidental idea the other day that I've
been I actually did contact an attorney to say, what
do I do with this because I think it's a
really good idea, But since it's just us. The idea
of an apparaitizer meaning you know, you know you have
(55:39):
appray ski you go out after your ski. Aprey means
after right in French on francis, what if you ate
something after the meal, like you have the appetizer before
then when you're all done dessert and everything, say I'll
have an apparaitizer and you eat something after if you're
(56:00):
hurt after dessert is its own category. So at the
bottom of the menu, he said, approtizer, That's where I'd explode.
Speaker 13 (56:09):
I wouldn't be able to do it.
Speaker 30 (56:10):
You might be able to do like an espresso or
something like that little after dinner coffee.
Speaker 8 (56:14):
Well that comes with it too. This is I'm marketing
its own thing. Now. This will raise the you know,
the price of the bill, and it'll raise the tip.
Is a whole new category.
Speaker 13 (56:24):
Okay, just when you thought you'd had enough and you
would know what would.
Speaker 8 (56:29):
Be appealing enough, not too much like a small bite plate,
maybe like a tapas kind of thing to say, geez,
I like to have that appertizer, or we're not done talking,
let's have an approtizer whatever. It was, a slider. Maybe
everyone's got room for a slider, don't they.
Speaker 11 (56:44):
I would probably go.
Speaker 30 (56:44):
I would probably recommend if you want to go there
out and you'd have to go something light because you
just had a big meal, you've had your decadent dessert.
You might want to balance that out with something a
little bit lighter. A little maybe add a little vegetable
to the diet on that side of things.
Speaker 20 (56:57):
Mighty taco, mini, veryizing mini like shrimp, something like that.
Speaker 8 (57:04):
See, this is what we're gonna flesh out, and we're
gonna create a whole new category and the world will
thank us. That's what happened the apparatizer.
Speaker 13 (57:14):
All right.
Speaker 30 (57:14):
The world of culinary is always innovative.
Speaker 8 (57:16):
So fantastic. Okay, So we'll work on that and we'll
circle back and reconvene. We'll do it over an apparatizer
one of these days at one here places. Well, thank
you very much for being here, and I know you
have a big event today and we'll look forward to that.
Speaker 20 (57:31):
His team will be working NonStop for the thirtieth anniversary
of the Natwiseppi Huron Band of the Pottawotomies Federal recognition,
so they will be putting out more food. This is
almost a New Year's Eve.
Speaker 8 (57:46):
Pre take the midnight buffet on a cruise. You thought
you were done with dinner, you came back. Yes, twenty
four to sevens open all the time. Anyway, Thank you shop.
It's Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 40 (58:00):
Are you're sickond tired of being tired?
Speaker 30 (58:01):
And sick.

Jane's Addiction has announced they are breaking up. The band
shared a post to its Instagram on Wednesday to inform
fans of the split and further explain the immediate aftermath
of the brawl between members Perry Ferrell and Dave Navarro
in September twenty twenty four. They acknowledged members made inaccurate
statements about Ferrell's mental health at the time, and revealed
(01:00:26):
they recently reconvened to resolve their differences.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
Cabot and ex Astronomer CEO Andy Byron are not dating,
despite creating an internet frenzy when they were caught getting
cozy at the concert. She confirmed the news while opening
up about her life after the incident with The New
York Times and admitted she made a bad decision and
had a couple of high noons leading to the moment
spotted in the video a Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 4 (01:01:07):
Pete Davidson is now a dad. The Saturday Night Live star.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
And his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt announced over the summer that
she was pregnant. On Thursday, the twenty nine year old
actress posted a series of photos on Instagram of her
and Davidson holding their newborn daughter, named Scottie rose Ewitt Davidson.
That's entertainment. I'm Jaqueline Carl.
Speaker 15 (01:01:51):
I'll be home for Christmas, right.
Speaker 8 (01:01:56):
Home here at fire Keepers Casino, MPs with you, Michael
Patrick Shields radio stations across the state of Michigan in
Battle Creek, and you're listening to James Judson and Jim Wise.
I know you have lots of super famous acts here
at the fire Keepers Casino showroom. This man James Judson,
who recorded this Christmas album and dropped it a couple
(01:02:17):
of weeks ago. We played his music first in the
world on the radio. We debuted it on this year program.
And this is James Judson.
Speaker 13 (01:02:25):
And you know what, even though it's the traditional songs,
everybody loves a new Christmas album. I think it's awesome.
So you know, you put a little tweak on, a
little twist on it yourself, and next thing you know,
everybody's talking about you singing it your version. So it's great.
Speaker 8 (01:02:44):
I actually attended the recording of some of it with
the orchestra. You hear in the background in a studio
there on Sunset Bulamard. Here's James Judson. Well, that's your.
Speaker 13 (01:02:58):
Little jazz forrad to me.
Speaker 20 (01:03:00):
So there's a lot of different ways to take those
songs and turn them into whatever style you want them
to be.
Speaker 8 (01:03:08):
Paul Anka has a new albums some of the older
songs still but he's got a new album coming out
at the beginning of February.
Speaker 13 (01:03:14):
He's been in your room here, Yes, yes, Yes, the
Big Orchestra two.
Speaker 20 (01:03:18):
So that's always kind of a great classic, traditional show,
and I think that's one of the things we try
to do, you know, we're doing young comedians, or we're
doing somebody classic like that.
Speaker 8 (01:03:29):
Black is Coming. Lewis black'st Lewis Black.
Speaker 20 (01:03:32):
And he does not tour anymore as far as a
traditional go to twenty cities in thirty five days kind
of thing. He just does selected dates when he when
it kind of fits his schedule, and he still likes
being active and out on stage and interacting.
Speaker 13 (01:03:46):
So we're blessed to have him.
Speaker 8 (01:03:47):
Did you go to the Paul Anca rehearsal or did
you meet him backstage rehearsal?
Speaker 20 (01:03:52):
Yes, didn't really interact a whole lot backstage, but he
was very nice to deal with.
Speaker 13 (01:03:57):
I know, again from chatting with production and things like that,
all was good.
Speaker 15 (01:04:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:04:01):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (01:04:02):
Eighty two I think he is and still going strong,
still going strong. He's famous, so you wanted to google it.
You could see his famous line about the guys get shirts.
Have you ever seen that? If you go on YouTube.
He was at a rehearsal one time and he was
just reading the riot act of the band and he
was upset because they were wearing different clothes when they
were in there. He noticed all the details and he said,
don't make a maniac out of me, you know, and
(01:04:23):
he wanted focus. And it's it's fun. Sometimes you hear
an artist imagine kitchens chef. Well, historically are very much
this way, are right. I saw that Bradley Cooper movie
throwing pans around and all that.
Speaker 30 (01:04:36):
A lot of those movies and shows that are very
popular right now. I think of The Bear that's on
Hulu right now, a lot of over dramatics. We do
pride ourselves on a wee of culture or FireKeepers can
see us very welcoming, engaging, and we want to make
sure that our team members are feeling welcome every time
they stepped through the doors.
Speaker 8 (01:04:55):
So it's a little bit of showbiz then that kind
a little bit.
Speaker 30 (01:04:58):
It makes great TV, doesn't it though?
Speaker 8 (01:05:00):
Let's talk about alcohol for a minute, because in the
news yesterday in the New York Times, there was an
article by the woman who got caught by the kiss
cam with the CEO of her company and they created
a big stir. Here's what she said. She's speaking now publicly.
I made a bad decision and had a couple of
high noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss. Now,
(01:05:24):
if two high noons are going to cause you to
go off the rails, I'd be pretty embarrassed to tell
people that.
Speaker 13 (01:05:31):
Wrong bad decision making is not a part of good leadership,
whether it's in the kitchen or in the marketing department
or anywhere else.
Speaker 8 (01:05:40):
But high noons.
Speaker 13 (01:05:43):
They must have been very high way high.
Speaker 20 (01:05:46):
We're talking skyscraper high, not twelve bounce can high.
Speaker 8 (01:05:50):
High noons are what you drink before you drink. I thought, anyway,
that's funny. Also, I wanted to mention too that, you know,
don Donald Trump Junior got engaged again and he's going
to get married this time. He was engaged to Kimberly
Gilfoyle last year, left her and got engaged to the
next woman.
Speaker 13 (01:06:10):
And maybe it's just a cycle.
Speaker 8 (01:06:11):
But Tina Anderson is her name. You get bachelor at
bachelor parties here, I'm sure, and you have weddings here
and all that sort of thing. And Don Junior said, quote,
when you propose, you're not sure what the answer is
going to be. It's always a little bit rough. Now,
I know why you're laughing.
Speaker 13 (01:06:30):
I think you generally got a pretty good idea.
Speaker 8 (01:06:35):
Really, he's inadvertently emphasizing that he's a veteran proposer. Yeah,
you know, every once in a while when you propose,
you don't know it's going to work out. And the
only reason I'm laughing about it is I've done it
five times.
Speaker 13 (01:06:48):
So you would understand that better than me.
Speaker 8 (01:06:50):
Veteran proposer.
Speaker 13 (01:06:51):
Okay, do you not know?
Speaker 42 (01:06:54):
I do?
Speaker 30 (01:06:55):
Right?
Speaker 8 (01:06:55):
Well? Yeah, actually there was one one that said yes
and then revoked a few hours later.
Speaker 13 (01:07:02):
Okay, okay, I was like the NFL upon further review,
we have a.
Speaker 8 (01:07:07):
Reversal on the fielding to reverse the call. Okay, speaking
of that, when you get your Vegas on here, cuisine
is big in Vegas. Tony Kuppert and I were just
there getting our fire keepers on. We say when we go,
we only went for the Formula one race. But what
about a wedding chapel here at fire Keepers.
Speaker 20 (01:07:28):
Well, we don't have the chapel, but James and his staff,
along with our sales team, do wedding receptions in our
events center all the time, so there isn't a hype of.
Speaker 8 (01:07:38):
Events ceremony here.
Speaker 13 (01:07:39):
The actually got married, they could do it in the
in the meeting room Mary, in the in the events
center space. They could bring somebody in.
Speaker 30 (01:07:47):
We actually have done that in the past. There was
the U the couple that was getting married actually brought
in their altar. We set that up.
Speaker 8 (01:07:55):
Yeah, so you'll a wedding chapel. Then if somebody wants.
Speaker 30 (01:07:57):
It, you figure it out in a manner of speaking.
Speaker 26 (01:07:59):
Yes.
Speaker 8 (01:08:00):
Now my other idea, Jim marketing genius.
Speaker 13 (01:08:02):
Oh here we go. I'm writing it down.
Speaker 8 (01:08:04):
The Apprey TiSER idea we talked about last week. If
you have a big reception for a wedding, why not
one for divorces.
Speaker 20 (01:08:13):
That's a kind of a real like not that weddings
aren't emotional, because they are, but I'd be a little
concerned about the emotional aspects of that.
Speaker 13 (01:08:22):
But you never know. Listen, if somebody called the.
Speaker 20 (01:08:24):
Sales team and you know, organized it properly, we'd probably
do it.
Speaker 13 (01:08:28):
I wish just as many.
Speaker 8 (01:08:29):
Divorces as there are weddings. It's an absence sector. We
need it. Okay, what are you building out front?
Speaker 20 (01:08:36):
By the way, we are building a giant healthcare center
and pharmacy wow designed to mainly assist the two thousand
team members and the tribal member, so they'll be able
to get healthcare there, be able to get their prescriptions
and pharmacy there. There could be some times where it'll
be open to the public too. We'll see.
Speaker 8 (01:08:57):
Stay tuned.

would you pass this gift on to Commissioner Frank to
come see the CEO of fire Keepers Casino with our
(01:10:18):
regards and thanks for his participation in Pure Michigan and
of course fire Keepers in the Tribe.
Speaker 20 (01:10:24):
He does an awesome job leading us and giving us
a short, intermediate, and longer term goals for the property.
You know, he strives to always kind of keep the
place fresh and exciting, which is what a gaming experience
is always about. And does a great job on committees
you know, like the Travel Commission, Travel Commission, He's on
(01:10:47):
the Michigan Economic Development Council. I believe also, so he's
got a lot of things happening there, so he finds
ways to divide his time both internally externally and then
working of course with the Tribe.
Speaker 8 (01:11:00):
Commissioner Liz where was with us the other day and
she's enjoying working with him very much. From Mission Point,
Resort mackinaw Island, Greg Biffle, did you know the NASCAR
driver who died in the jet crash?
Speaker 13 (01:11:11):
He did just awful.
Speaker 20 (01:11:13):
I got a couple of texts from folks about that,
and it was obviously stocked, shocked and stunned by it.
So prior to it being the fire Keeper's Casino four hundred,
it was to Quicken Loans four hundred, of which Biffle.
Speaker 13 (01:11:29):
Won in twenty thirteen.
Speaker 20 (01:11:31):
And don't forget around that time there were two races
a year to mis and in twenty twelve Biffle had
won the Pure Michigan four hundred, so he had a
lot of wins to his credit, and obviously an awful
thing at any time of the year. But you know,
the family going somewhere for the holidays, just a great tragedy.
Speaker 8 (01:11:53):
There were six people on board that died. Biffel, his wife,
Christina and their daughter and son, and to victims that
haven't been identified yet, but that Michigan heritage of winning
here is worth noting. And if you're inclined to pray,
pray for his family and his extended family and his
fans too.
Speaker 13 (01:12:13):
Just the worst at this point in the year.

Speaker 11 (01:16:40):
Okay, chime in letsen, so.
Speaker 8 (01:16:49):
I've kind of.
Speaker 13 (01:16:54):
Seers.
Speaker 8 (01:16:56):
It's called the fairy Tale of New York. It's by
an Irish band called the Poges. Alex, can you pot
that up a little bit?
Speaker 30 (01:17:02):
Please?
Speaker 8 (01:17:03):
Thank you?
Speaker 13 (01:17:08):
One day? One day they get special worlds.
Speaker 8 (01:17:12):
Well it only comes out at Christmas, Okay, so once
a year they're feasting on these royalties on the fairy
Tale of You.
Speaker 20 (01:17:19):
It's just like writing a classic book. You even gotta
do it one time you write a great song, it's
gonna carry on.
Speaker 8 (01:17:24):
Here are the popes on the fairy Tale of New York.
Speaker 29 (01:17:27):
I go through the windows, run for you.
Speaker 15 (01:17:32):
It's not placeful.
Speaker 13 (01:17:32):
They all wait you.
Speaker 19 (01:17:33):
Basted Christmas Eve you promised me from I was waiting
for me.
Speaker 8 (01:17:39):
I know you came from the East and you settled
here in the Midwest, and we're very so happy to
have you. Know how many years has it been now just.
Speaker 13 (01:17:45):
Crossed eleven years here at fire keepers up and blessed
to be here, and.
Speaker 8 (01:17:49):
You're happy to be here in the road. That's fantastic.
Speaker 20 (01:17:52):
Maybe people like garrying out so much, but but I'm
thrilled to be here. Yes, they haven't pointed me at
the door yet and said, you know, you don't have
to go home, but you got to get on out
of here.
Speaker 13 (01:18:01):
They have not done that yet.
Speaker 8 (01:18:02):
The other reason we played the pogues for you is
you're going to make a trip to the Emeralds.
Speaker 20 (01:18:06):
Yes we're and we're probably going to get some great
consultation from you. But you know, the kids are daughters
married now and the sons are getting older, so my
wife sees probably a window for one more family trip.
Speaker 13 (01:18:20):
So well, that's what we're planning to do.
Speaker 8 (01:18:23):
Beautiful place to do it. I've been lucky thirty five
times I've been to Ireland, but I want to hear
the stories of the people that go over the first time,
including you. And you've been nice enough to share your
travels in Portugal.
Speaker 13 (01:18:34):
Yes, you were a huge help for us there and
we loved Portugal.
Speaker 8 (01:18:38):
Super sweet. Now travel to fire keepers. Also, since we're
speaking of the fairy Tale of New York, Times Square
is getting ready to usher in New York with the
big twenty twenty six numerals arrived yesterday and I guess
the first time they did that wooden ball, it was
a wooden ball. Now it's Waterford.
Speaker 13 (01:18:55):
Crystal apparently, bigger than ever this year?
Speaker 27 (01:18:59):
Is that?
Speaker 8 (01:18:59):
Right? See, you're still in touch with the East. I
get that. What about what happens at midnight here?
Speaker 13 (01:19:05):
We have a big countdown here. You know.
Speaker 20 (01:19:08):
One of the great things about having about two hundred
and fifty televisions anywhere you turn is we can take
national broadcasts of things like the New Year's Eve countdown
or football games or whatever it is, and we're showing
it to everybody. So it's very easy to see that countdown.
And then our audio visual team will have great light
shows at places like the Embers Bar and then out
(01:19:32):
here in the casino as well, so everybody has hats
and noisemakers and all sorts of stuff that we give
away starting around ten o'clock, so it's a very festive environment.
Speaker 8 (01:19:43):
I mentioned that this gift is for mister Commissioner Frank
to come see your CEO and on the Michigan Travel Commission.
This one is for you also, but a real gift.
This is just a little something. The real gift I
want to give you is you do go to Las
Vegas from time to time on search trips.
Speaker 20 (01:20:00):
Right, yes, and we'll go for the Global Gaming Conference
in October as well, where our slots team sets up
opportunities for us to kind of tour each of the
major operators and see what new games they have and
what's exciting in the slot world.
Speaker 8 (01:20:15):
For example, what I want to do is treat you
to dinner because you have been over the years and
years eleven years now of hospitality for my family and
I on this show, in this casino with all the
meals and the excitement and the drinks and the broadcasts.
I would like to also, speaking back to your history
in New York, would you please let me treat you
(01:20:35):
to dinner at La Cirque. Whoa, you'll go back over
there the Las Vegas version of this.
Speaker 13 (01:20:40):
Well, my wife here is about this.
Speaker 20 (01:20:41):
She'll be going, well, when are we going hun Well, yes,
it doesn't have to be for exactly, That's what she'll
be saying.
Speaker 8 (01:20:48):
And that fella there we met at La Cirque when
we were there for the Formula one race, and he's
going to take super good care of you. That's great. Well,
I don't know if you ever ate at the Circus City.
Speaker 13 (01:20:58):
I have not no no, no, no, no no no.
Speaker 20 (01:21:01):
That's three or four levels below my ability to uh
to attain no, no, no, no, no, you're not walking
into le cerque seeing you know Jim sitting there at
the tip.
Speaker 8 (01:21:11):
You will in Las Vegas, yes, when you go, and
he's gonna look after you. And that fella what he
reminded me of you because he talked about service and
he said, by the way, my service doesn't end when
this meal ends. It continues on. And he sent me
a package after the meal is over because I gave
him my card and so forth, and so I wanted.
(01:21:32):
It's awesome to meet it.
Speaker 13 (01:21:33):
Well, listen again, and that's an elite experience.
Speaker 20 (01:21:37):
So when you do say la cirque, you're not only
thinking about the food element, but you are kind of
thinking about the whole experience and the ambiance and everything
that you get.
Speaker 8 (01:21:46):
So don't say, one day, now did MPs really mean that?
Don't be shy about saying. Remember, Okay said you're sending
me to the cerque.
Speaker 13 (01:21:54):
You're you're on the you're tape somewhere, so I will
pull this back out if I need to.
Speaker 8 (01:22:03):
He also sent me this book that also made me
think of fire keepers. It's called Unreasonable, The remarkable power
of giving people more than they expect. That's what goes
on here, isn't.
Speaker 20 (01:22:15):
It absolutely so with that WIA that Jeff James was
talking about earlier. And that's not just for a particular department.
So I don't care if you work in valet or
you're in food and beverage. You might be a dealer,
you might be working in housekeeping and getting ready to
put a cart on the sixth floor right now and
start to clean some rooms. Everybody can deliver kind of
(01:22:38):
amazing experiences. And sometimes it's nothing more than a warm
good morning, go have a great day, or something just
seemingly pretty basic but really makes people's day.
Speaker 8 (01:22:51):
Making people feel welcome, accepted, appreciated, seen and known. That's
the theory of this book.
Speaker 20 (01:22:59):
At every business this tries, and unfortunately quite a few fail,
you know, but that's what you're trying to do. You're
trying to be from welcoming at the start, engaging when
they're here. You know, you want to be enthusiastic at
all times because you want to have people to be
upbeaaten positive, but you also can't forget appreciative because again,
(01:23:19):
people have choices. They could go anywhere, and they choose
to come to your business. You need to be appreciative
of them.
Speaker 8 (01:23:25):
There was a blackjack dealer yesterday that she was wearing
a mask and I forgot her name, and I asked
her name purposely because she made that a show. Not
over the top, but she was fully excited and engage
for everyone. And you know, sometimes it's okay the dealer
has a mystique, they're a little quiet, but she was
just fantastic. And then another one of the dealers, which
(01:23:46):
Tony experienced, when you want or you maybe a hit
twenty one with your draw, she said, nice night.
Speaker 13 (01:23:54):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 20 (01:23:55):
It doesn't have to be over the top to create
a positive impact for you, and just that nice and
saying it that way, and we ask them to kind
of it's almost like Disney, where all the employee stuff
was underground, and then when they come out, they're in
character and they're supposed to perform. You don't have to
be a you know, an entertainer per se. But when
(01:24:19):
you come through those doors back there onto the gaming
floor or into your restaurant or whatever, we're asking you
to kind of leave whatever challenges we all face in
the background and come out and really be ready to
serve and create great experiences.
Speaker 8 (01:24:33):
And I did stop and get the attention of I
think the pit boss, I think is what it's called.
And she and I said, you have you have some
really entertaining dealers here, and she lit up like a
Christmas tree. She was really happy to hear that. Se Yep,
it was nice. I don't know if you spa again.
Speaker 13 (01:24:48):
Little things really do mean a lot.
Speaker 8 (01:24:51):
Fire Keepers Casino is where you can come and hang
out through the winter. You'll see a fountain of fire
when you pull up. And in temperatures like this.

Speaker 24 (01:27:21):
He signed an executive order switching the drug from a
Schedule one to a Schedule three, reclassifying it as less dangerous.
Speaker 14 (01:27:29):
Does it legalize marijuana in any way, shape or form,
and in no way sanctions its use as a recreational drug.
Speaker 24 (01:27:37):
Instead, Trump said it will help many Americans dealing with
extreme pain and other serious medical conditions. Marijuana has been
in the same category as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD. I'm
Lisa Carton, and.

The cabin was glowing from the Red Christmas Lights. The
snow was falling on my way home tonight. I knocked
on the door maybe once, maybe twice, and Missus Claws answered,
(01:28:30):
oh did she look nice?
Speaker 8 (01:28:34):
Song by James Judson. It's Christmas Eve tonight and you
can get it wherever you get music. Spotify, it could
be a good place or YouTube. It's Michael Patrick Shields.
He is our dedicated holiday performer this year heading into Christmas. Okay,
Jim Wise at Dacy Sports Book and Tony Cuthbert, we're
going to talk a little bit of sports here. And
(01:28:54):
this is something that you might not know about yet,
but Thursday, the President Trump talked to a new creation.
It's going to be called the Patriot Games, and it's
an athletic contest that's going to be part of the
twenty twenty sixth celebration we're having in the US, four
days of athletic events featuring the greatest high school athletes,
(01:29:15):
one man and one woman from every state and territory.
It sounds suspiciously like the Hunger Games if you think
about it. I think they're all going.
Speaker 13 (01:29:28):
To live, though, let's hope so yes. I think that
would be a much more positive outcome.
Speaker 8 (01:29:33):
Could we I wonder if we'll be able to bet
on something like that.
Speaker 13 (01:29:38):
Well, I can tell you that if it's below college age,
we will not.
Speaker 8 (01:29:43):
Oh is that right?
Speaker 13 (01:29:44):
No, We're not allowing any wagering on anything below college.
Speaker 8 (01:29:51):
There was some talk recently about I think I don't
forget if it was Major League Baseball or football doing
away with prop bets, because those were the most susceptible
to trickery, especially some of.
Speaker 13 (01:30:03):
The fringe ones.
Speaker 20 (01:30:04):
So, for example, Emmanuel Classe of the Guardians was apparently
throwing his first pitch as a ball because you could
bet strike or ball on any pitch, and I'm sure
in his mind he was thinking, hey, I'm still trying
to get this batter out, so I go ball one,
Like what's the big deal? But he was doing it
(01:30:26):
consistently and taking money for it, which ruins the integrity
of the game. He admitted that, yes, well I shouldn't
say that, No, I mean, because there's still they're still
in the punishment phase. But MLB has suspended him and
another Guardians pitcher, and we don't know when they're gonna
be or if they'll ever be allowed back into Major
(01:30:47):
League Baseball.
Speaker 8 (01:30:49):
Tony Kubert. I don't know if this is true or not,
but Oscar piastre Ye McLaren driver. The word is he's
moving over to Ferrari.
Speaker 11 (01:30:57):
That's that's fake news, fake news.
Speaker 8 (01:31:00):
It was fake news. Okay, we'll forget that then, but
we won't forget that. You have a car race here
coming up the fire Keeper's Casino four hundred.
Speaker 20 (01:31:07):
I'm glad he knows that because I'm not an F
one expert, so I'm glad you turned to somebody who was.
Speaker 8 (01:31:14):
That's it. He's beer and F one.
Speaker 31 (01:31:16):
I like it.
Speaker 20 (01:31:17):
June June, fire Keepers Casino four hundred. Let's go get
those tickets. And every year they've done a great job
there because they are growing. I know, we used to
have two races and we only have one, so you
would say, hey, the one should do better, and it is.
So every year we're seeing more popularity. And last year
we find some wood to knock on. Well, we didn't
(01:31:40):
have any rain for the first time in a while,
and we had a great race right there.
Speaker 8 (01:31:46):
Yes, and he also played in the fire Keeper's Casino
Golf Classic program like I did once, but he played
and he played with the president of the PGA of America,
John Lindard. Only the poor guy Tony was nervous to
play in a proram and he said, oh, by the way,
here's the president of the PGA to play with. Sure,
no problem.
Speaker 11 (01:32:05):
Memories. It was fun. It was very fun.
Speaker 8 (01:32:07):
Indeed, this is a this is all about the fun
here and Gary FAGONI do you say that name like that? Yeah,
that's correct, Thank you very much, the director of slot
performance at fire Keepers Casino. I think you warmed up
yesterday with slats, Tony, and then you went and tried
your first ever blackjack and we're still using that as
a cliffhanger to find out how it went. But do
you remember what slots you played? And my mother is
(01:32:29):
watching over your shoulder. Oh my goodness, she's trying to
make a comeback this morning.
Speaker 21 (01:32:33):
The one that I remember vividly was like a wheel
of Fortune type game and that was super cool. And
uh oh, somewhere right over the right there, right behind us,
somewhere right.
Speaker 8 (01:32:43):
In here, Gary, we had these late night questions. We
saw a machine that had a claw and it had
like little canisters of dollar bills all rolled out. Yeah,
that's out of technology.
Speaker 38 (01:32:54):
So there's a coin pusher game next to it, it's
a Class two slot machine. You played the Bass game
and you're trying to win that claw token on the
coin pusher to come out.
Speaker 8 (01:33:02):
If it does, you get a ticket.
Speaker 26 (01:33:04):
You can go over and play the Claw machine and
win prizes.
Speaker 8 (01:33:06):
Oh so you have to win on one machine to
go to the next.
Speaker 38 (01:33:09):
Or the claw Yes, but we are working on a
cash claw version of that that we've already got on order,
so you can actually go in and play the Claw
machine as a slot machine and win.
Speaker 26 (01:33:18):
Buss doesn't play the claw within.
Speaker 8 (01:33:19):
Itself, So you play the game where the coins get
pushed pract and if you get enough, you go there.
Speaker 38 (01:33:24):
If you knock off the KA token, yeah, exactly when
you're a kid.
Speaker 8 (01:33:28):
And what's in those little cash canisters.
Speaker 38 (01:33:30):
RFAD tags, So it's fake money in there, but it
gives an RFAD tag that tells you what prize you
want and then prints out a ticket that you redem
with the slot staff.
Speaker 8 (01:33:38):
What's the lowest and highest prize in the little canisters?
Speaker 38 (01:33:42):
So right now we're running a promotion where it's Stanley prizes,
So your lowest prize is probably gonna be your standard
Stanley tumbler cup all the way up to large coolers.
Speaker 8 (01:33:51):
Oh it's not cash, it's act Yeah, I see. And
when those coins fall over the side when you play that.
Speaker 38 (01:33:58):
So those are going into a little track your chests.
That add up for the rapid fire feature. You want
to try to get the rapid fire feature because that
just starts spitting out tokens like crazy out of that
shooter arm and you're trying to get as many tokens
to fall off that edge as possible.
Speaker 8 (01:34:11):
So am I wrong? Then this is not a cash game.
You pay to play, but you don't win cash. You
can win cash.
Speaker 38 (01:34:16):
So the coin pusher machine is a class two machine
that you win credits on.
Speaker 46 (01:34:20):
Oh okay.
Speaker 8 (01:34:21):
And when I was playing into Carnivals, those quarters would
fall down in the thing and you would scoop up
all the quarters. In this case, it comes out on
a correct jazz.
Speaker 38 (01:34:30):
Those coins fall down, they go on to a belt,
back into a hopper and recirculate back up.
Speaker 8 (01:34:34):
Oy oh boy. Every time you think you've seen it all,
the one armed bandits are a lot different, aren't they exactly?
That's pretty creative. And how is the new lounge back there?
The new slot lounge doing doing well.
Speaker 38 (01:34:46):
So we had a lot of success with the with
the Aristocrat area, So because of that, we kind of
carried that into the back of the building and partnered
with Konami Ags and Light Wonder to do a themed
area and are continuing that success with another one of
our partners, Light and Wonder that I mentioned, and doing
a Light and Wonder lane out here in the middle
of the floor, just right over here, where they're going
(01:35:07):
to feature seventy six of their slot machines with titles
everybody knows from Frankenstein to Dracula to Puff and.
Speaker 8 (01:35:14):
Morpof Frankenstein's Big Again because it is just a movie
a couple months ago, and that's probably going to be
nominated for Best Picture, I think.
Speaker 38 (01:35:21):
And there's a pretty impressive new cabinet and sign package
over here called the LightWave that if you get a
chance to check out, is worth weill going to happen.
Speaker 8 (01:35:28):
When it comes to healthcare costs, we often focus on
one thing, our insurance premiums. But what if we're only
seeing part of the picture. The truth is our health
insurance costs reside downstream at the end of the cost equation.
But to really understand what's driving up costs. We need
to look upstream to the healthcare system itself. Upstream, there
are costs like the price is charged by hospitals and doctors,
(01:35:52):
and the cost of prescription drugs, healthcare administration, and technology.
These costs flow downstream directly into your health insurance premium.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield the Michigan is advocating
for a system wide solution to address the rising cost
of healthcare. Blue Cross knows that healthcare is personal, needs
(01:36:12):
to work for everyone, and affordability matters, and that starts
with shedding light on the entire cost equation from upstream
costs to downstream premiums. Want to learn more, visitmiblueedaily dot com,

Well, the search for a Wolverine replacement coach still sort
of mysterious, but maybe some results on the field will
result in some hiring off the field.
Speaker 21 (01:38:26):
Yeah, clarity tonight may be evident if Alabama finds a
way to lose to Oklahoma. So it's our first playoff
game that gets underway. This weekend is going to be
full of them, but that's going to be the one
to watch. And by the way, Oklahoma did beat Alabama
twenty three to twenty one in November, so we have
something that we can look at. And what'd you say
the spread was on that game?
Speaker 13 (01:38:45):
One and a half.
Speaker 20 (01:38:45):
Oklahoma is just a point and a half favorite, so
you know, considering the games on the Norman campus, then
the odds makers really see that as a pretty even matchup.
Speaker 11 (01:38:56):
Man, this is going to be something to watch. I'm excited.
Speaker 21 (01:38:58):
We have so much football all week along and you
eat something during the day. Of course, Western Michigan takes
on Kennesaw State. Don't know the spread on that one,
it's three and a half.
Speaker 13 (01:39:06):
The Myrtle Beach status, I've got excuse me.
Speaker 11 (01:39:09):
I'm just gonna throw different games at Jubis. You know
these things that I'll go too far Farris State they
take on Harding. It's the NCAA Division two National Championship game.
It's a four o'clock on ESPN two.
Speaker 13 (01:39:22):
At the very least, it will be on TV absolutely.
Speaker 20 (01:39:24):
And but in Michigan, WE'RENY allowed Division one matchups, so there.
Speaker 13 (01:39:29):
I don't know what the point spread is on that game.
Speaker 11 (01:39:31):
I'll make it Ferris minus ten.
Speaker 13 (01:39:34):
Hey, how about that?
Speaker 11 (01:39:35):
Even Yeah, we'll go.
Speaker 8 (01:39:35):
With Yeah, did you just make a side bet with him?
Speaker 13 (01:39:38):
I think I think we know.
Speaker 26 (01:39:39):
I don't.
Speaker 13 (01:39:40):
I want to stay on Ferris also, so i'd be
in support of that.
Speaker 8 (01:39:43):
I'm shocked to learn there's gambling going on here.
Speaker 21 (01:39:46):
Ford Field will be the place on some There are
two games tomorrow as well in the NFL if I
remember right. Not sure who it is, but the Lions
take on the Steelers Sunday at Ford Field. This is
your late afternoon game on CBS.
Speaker 8 (01:39:56):
You want me to say anything that I know you've
met Jim nantz with me? But what do you want
me to tell Tony Romo when I go to the
booth before the.
Speaker 13 (01:40:02):
Game that you can say on radio?
Speaker 17 (01:40:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 21 (01:40:06):
You know, I used to be very sour on Tony Romo,
but I think he's actually really good with Jim Nance
now I'm not a hater like everybody else seems to be.
Speaker 8 (01:40:13):
I don't know if it's fashionable day the new Madden
in summer all may I guess that's fair.
Speaker 13 (01:40:18):
They're the number one team, let's put it that way.
Speaker 8 (01:40:20):
And Tony's distinctive. He's not boring, though he's very exciting.
Speaker 20 (01:40:25):
He came on the scene and had such a rush
of popularity that that's been hard for him to sustain.
And that happens with anybody when you kind of come
on the scene and all of a sudden the hot
new thing.
Speaker 8 (01:40:36):
Twenty years of coming to fire Keepers and doing.
Speaker 13 (01:40:38):
This broadcast, you're still on fire.
Speaker 8 (01:40:41):
Thanks to Jim Wise and everybody here. We appreciate it.
And they do you still have NFL slot machines right
or sports slot machines? We do not currently, Oh you
did before, though they're coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
NBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. The clock is ticking
on the Trump administration to release the long awaited Jeffrey
Epstein files by midnight to ten night. The deadline comes
under a new transparency law passed by Congress to make
public the records that are tied to the late sex offender.
President Trump is using marijuana restrictions. Lisa Carton has the story.
Speaker 24 (01:41:11):
He signed an executive order switching the drug from a
Schedule one to a Schedule three, reclassifying it as less dangerous.
Speaker 14 (01:41:19):
Does it legalize marijuana in any way, shape or form,
and in no way sanctions its use as a recreational drug.
Speaker 24 (01:41:27):
Instead, Trump said it will help many Americans dealing with
extreme pain and other serious medical conditions. Marijuana has been
in the same category as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
I'm Lisa Carton, and the Kennedy Center is getting a
new name after its board voted to rebrand it as
the Trump Kennedy Center. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.

Rockies and Plains, Breezy winds and mixed precipitation are expected,

The Trump administration has until midnight to release files related
to Jeffrey Epstein. That deadline set under the Epstein Files
Transparency Act, passed by Congress last month. Epstein, who committed
suicide in custody in twenty nineteen, spent years brushing shoulders
with many of the world's elite.
Speaker 15 (01:43:19):
Some parts of the files may still be redacted.

Washington's Kennedy Centers getting a new name. White House Press
Secretary Caroline Levitt saying the center's boards voted unanimously to
rename it the Trump Kennedy Center. Levitt says that's due
to the unbelievable work President Trump has done over the
last year in saving the building. A bill that aims
to speed up infrastructure and energy projects is headed to
(01:44:27):
the Senate. The Speed Act past the House Wednesday. It's
expected to bolster infrastructure projects by decreasing the amount of
scrutiny their environmental impacts face. A bipartisan group of lawmakers
has been working for years to strike a deal on
the matter. Reports say, to get Republican hardliners on board
a deal. This version's passed with the addition of a

new anti wind amendment, though that addition could make it
more difficult to secure passage in the Senate. Scott car
NBC News Radio.
Speaker 34 (01:44:56):
A new report shows inflation cool last month and reports
the Consumer Price Index rose by an annualized rate of
two point seven percent last month. That was against expectations
of three point one percent. October's number wasn't calculated due
to the government shutdown. The CPI is a broad measure
of the cost of goods and services.
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
The owner of TikTok assigned a deal that would create
a US version of the popular social media app. The
video sharing platform has been under pressure by Congress to
create a US version because it's owned by a Chinese company,
Byte Dance, which they say poses a national security concern.
On Thursday, the CEO of TikTok announced that they struck
a deal with the Trump administration to create a joint

venture that will be majority owned by American investors, who
will be responsible for US data protection, algorithm security, content moderation.
Speaker 34 (01:45:46):
And software assurance.

for over sixteen million dollars. Tammy Truhio has details.
Speaker 36 (01:45:54):
Production of the copper plated one cent coin was stopped
this year as each coin was costing four times more
than any was worth in US currency. Last week, the
last of the US pennies were sold at auction in
about two hundred and thirty three coin sets, with each
one including a commemorative twenty four carrot gold penny. The
pennies fetched over sixteen point seven million dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:46:15):
Home heating costs are expected to rise this winter. A
new report from the National Energy Assistance Directors Association projected
that costs would rise by nine point two percent as
colder temperatures and increasing energy prices play a role. Households
will spend nine hundred and ninety five dollars on heating
this winter, marking an increase of eighty four dollars from
last winter. According to nita's executive director, millions of households

are being pushed deeper into utility debt and closer to
shutoffs simply because they cannot afford to keep their homes warm.

Live across the Great Lake State. You're connected to Michigan's
most engaging and influential radio and television program, Michigan's Big
Show starring Michael Patrick Shields, presented by Blue Cross, Blue
Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network.
Speaker 33 (01:49:18):
I'm producer and creative director Tony Cuthberts.
Speaker 8 (01:49:22):
Now in the.
Speaker 37 (01:49:23):
Shadow of the Capitol Dome and Lansing. He's heard from
the beaches of Lake Michigan, to the halls of power
and behind closed doors. Here's Michigan's Michael Patrick Shields.
Speaker 8 (01:49:34):
Well, first, Ambassador Shields is nice to seem on your show.
Speaker 11 (01:49:37):
We recruit you in lots of different ways.
Speaker 8 (01:49:39):
Ambassador certainly is a proper title pursue Michael Patrick.
Speaker 47 (01:49:44):
So, good morning.
Speaker 10 (01:49:44):
It's great to be on your show.
Speaker 8 (01:49:46):
Good morning, MP Shields.
Speaker 5 (01:49:47):
Be great poys of the Great Lakes.
Speaker 8 (01:49:49):
How are you this morning?
Speaker 13 (01:49:51):
I look at your show and I know that you
came from WJR Detroit and worked with one of the
most popular radio men in the history of the state.
Speaker 10 (01:49:57):
And now you're on the mic yourself, Michael Old Patrick
Shields is on the air.
Speaker 15 (01:50:02):
Good morning world.
Speaker 8 (01:50:04):
We're in a wonder lane here. Oh you thought I
was going to say wonderland like Christmas. But there is
a new wonder lane slot machine here at fire Keepers Casino,
and Gary Fagon is telling us about that. And also
you had a world debut of a slot machine here
last week.
Speaker 38 (01:50:18):
We did, yeah, so from another one of our slot manufacturers.
So we currently have sixteen different slot manufacturers on the
floor and two of them are Class too. The other
one is Eclipse Game and that's our second Class two vendor.
They just launched a brand new cabinet called the Callisto
Cabinet with a new theme that is called rail Pays,
has a train wheel, a second chance respins and a
(01:50:39):
rail Pay bonus and that just went live yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:50:43):
How much money has it given away already?
Speaker 26 (01:50:46):
I have not looked at the numbers yet this morning yet, but.
Speaker 8 (01:50:48):
You can huh, yes, interesting. And when they say ninety
two percent, ninety four percent sometimes in Atlantic City, I
used to see those big billboards, what does that mean?
Speaker 38 (01:51:02):
So that's the theoretical return to player over the lifetime
of the machine. So you got to keep in mind
some of these life cycles are hundreds of millions of
spins of the machine. So over those hundreds of millions
of spins it would give back in that scenario of
ninety two to ninety four percent of the money it
takes in.
Speaker 8 (01:51:17):
Ah, So, in a sense, to simplify it, every dollar
ninety four cents.
Speaker 38 (01:51:22):
Goes back out for simplistically purposes.
Speaker 8 (01:51:24):
Yes, And do you have a stat like that or
is it a secret trade? The secret secret? Okay? And
if my mother, because she made a couple of deposits yesterday,
wanted to get her money back, could she walk in
to the office of Gary Marshall, as Albert Brooks did
in this holiday casino classic on this program from fire
(01:51:47):
Keepers and pitch this idea from the movie Lost in
America as.
Speaker 47 (01:51:53):
The boldest experiment in advertising history. You give us our
money back, Give us our money back. Think of the publicity.
The Hilton Hotels has these billboards all over Los Angeles
where the winners of these slot machine jackpots, their faces
are all over LA.
Speaker 42 (01:52:11):
And I know that works.
Speaker 47 (01:52:12):
I've seen people at corners look up and say, maybe
I'll go to the Hilton. Well, you give us our
money back. I don't even know now because I'm just
coming off the top of my head, but a visual
where if we had a billboard and the desert had
handed us our nest egg back. This gives the desert
in really Vegas is not associated with feeling right.
Speaker 42 (01:52:34):
First of all, those people on those signs they won,
you lost.
Speaker 13 (01:52:37):
But that's it.
Speaker 42 (01:52:40):
That's the campaign.
Speaker 15 (01:52:41):
What the campaign.
Speaker 47 (01:52:43):
You gave my wife and I our money back because
you reviewed our situation and you realize that we dropped
out of society and we weren't just gamblers, and we
made a mistake, and you gave our money back. Do
you know you couldn't get a room in this place
for ten years.
Speaker 46 (01:53:00):
Everybody will want their money back. Well, the gamblers to say, hey,
go to the desert in get our money.
Speaker 47 (01:53:04):
Beck not gamblers, No, you keep all the money. It's
just that that that my wife and I aren't gamblers.
Speaker 13 (01:53:10):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 47 (01:53:11):
That's the distinction. My wife and I represent the few people.
And I'll tell you something, there's probably nobody else that's
ever gonna come and have this happen. So really probably
we're the only two. We represent the people who have
who have taken the chance, and we made a mistake,
and then the desert In corrects it and gives it back.
Speaker 13 (01:53:30):
There is a warm feeling here, But.
Speaker 42 (01:53:32):
You don't think everybody they don't want their money back.
Speaker 10 (01:53:35):
No, no, no, no, no no.
Speaker 47 (01:53:36):
In the campaign, you make a clear distinction between the bold,
who would be my wife and I, and then all
the other schmucks who come here to see Wayne Newton.
I like Wayne Newton, I said, Wayne Newton.
Speaker 42 (01:53:47):
What were you talking about it? I heard you say, schmuck.
See Wayne Newton.
Speaker 13 (01:53:51):
I like him.
Speaker 42 (01:53:51):
It makes me a schmuck.
Speaker 47 (01:53:53):
Oh no, no, I'm stupid to use an entertainer as
a dividing point. I just meant the all the people
that come here, care free on their way to see
a show, and my wife and I, who if you
knew us, believe me, you would believe me your bowl?
Speaker 13 (01:54:09):
Yes, yes, So what do you think?
Speaker 42 (01:54:12):
I don't think the signs are gonna work, and giving.
Speaker 8 (01:54:14):
The sign is wrong. The sign is wrong.
Speaker 47 (01:54:17):
A jingle a television campaign. The desert In has heart,
The desert In has heart, The desert In has heart.
Speaker 42 (01:54:25):
It's enough, it's enough.
Speaker 46 (01:54:26):
The casino is our main means of income, not the
coffee shop, not the show, the casino. That's what pays
all our bills. So if we give everybody their money back,
we can't pay our bills.
Speaker 8 (01:54:39):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 42 (01:54:39):
We can't change our pomos.
Speaker 13 (01:54:40):
Okay, play a fun worka in with me. This will
do it.
Speaker 47 (01:54:43):
What do you think of when you think of a
hunting lot?
Speaker 8 (01:54:45):
Hunt?
Speaker 13 (01:54:45):
Yes, what do you think of when you think of
a rest home?
Speaker 42 (01:54:47):
Your rest?
Speaker 47 (01:54:48):
So you see, we're gonna associate the desert in with
something beautiful.
Speaker 13 (01:54:51):
You don't think of anything here, now.
Speaker 15 (01:54:52):
Do you?
Speaker 42 (01:54:53):
Gambling? That's why people come Here's ramble. They want to
go to hunting lots.
Speaker 46 (01:54:57):
They go to Wisconsin, they want to rest, They go
to New Orleans, they want to gamble. They come to Vegas.
That's what it's called gambling, Las Vegas gambling. You see
signs around this time when guys were gun shooting ducks.
It's a gambla then aren't your ducks rack corns?
Speaker 42 (01:55:14):
Beevies? They come to gamble. That's what we do here. Now,
you're a nice guy.
Speaker 46 (01:55:19):
You make me laugh and everything, But our policy is
we can't give you money back.
Speaker 42 (01:55:22):
I'm real sorry, saygabye to your wife. I gotta go Home.
Speaker 47 (01:55:26):
What about Miracle on thirty fourth Street.
Speaker 42 (01:55:28):
It's a Christmas movie.
Speaker 13 (01:55:30):
Yes, it was.
Speaker 47 (01:55:30):
Now there was Gimbals who was afraid that if they
gave something up that they would lose, and they wound
up benefiting. He was afraid that if he gave to
Macy's he would lose his business, and he didn't. It's
the same situation. This costs you nothing. To give us
our money back is nothing. You would be the one
who would benefit.
Speaker 8 (01:55:47):
Wrong.
Speaker 42 (01:55:48):
In that movie, Santa Claus took care of everything.
Speaker 46 (01:55:52):
There was Macy's gambles, but Santa Claus came and he
fixed the whole thing.
Speaker 42 (01:55:57):
We don't have Santa Claus.
Speaker 13 (01:55:59):
Then we get it Santa Claus. We get him.
Speaker 8 (01:56:03):
That's the ad campaign.
Speaker 13 (01:56:04):
There it goes. I have the chills. We get Santa Claus.
Speaker 47 (01:56:07):
He's the one on the billboard. He hands us our
nest egg. We associate for the first time ever Christmas
and Las Vegas, Las Vegas a Christmas place to be.
Speaker 42 (01:56:18):
We're finished talking.
Speaker 8 (01:56:21):
We're not finished talking with Jim Wise though, because fire
Keepers has heart. Fire Keepers has heart, and I associate
fire Keepers with Christmas. Well, not just because we're broadcasting
right now, but my very first time I ever set
foot in this building was at Christmas and I brought
my family for dinner and I met this guy called
Michael Facenda mm hm, who was from the East, like
(01:56:43):
you correct, visitor from the East. And we started this
partnership at a Christmas like Boxing day dinner here at
fire Keepers.
Speaker 20 (01:56:52):
You never know when great relationships, long standing ones are
going to occur, and we're so thrilled to have you
as kind of a part of our family.
Speaker 8 (01:57:02):
Thank you, wow, I called, thank you very much. And
also I think I wore the Santa suit here one
time when we broadcast at Christmas. I'm pretty sure there's
a picture of me in a Santa suit on this
money Keeper's mainstreak. Not the beard and hat and though no,
but the suit. Okay, Christmas kind of place. Yes, When
(01:57:23):
will there be a Santa Claus slot machine?
Speaker 38 (01:57:27):
It's a clause team background on the claw game all
right there.
Speaker 20 (01:57:30):
It is eye gaming on I Gaming. We have Christmas
theme slot machines and they again seasonally will come in
and go so probably came in the first of December.
They're on there now and we'll go out in early
January or sometimes they then go lower on the bottom
of the page, where you could still search them out
if you had what you.
Speaker 8 (01:57:50):
Liked Claw Machine Santa Claus, I liked upon very much.
Thank you very much, Gary for going to see you
soon and don't forget can't get her person.
Speaker 48 (01:57:59):

Jane's Addiction has announced they are breaking up. The band
shared a post to its Instagram on Wednesday to inform
fans of the split and further explain the immediate aftermath
of the brawl between members Perry Ferrell and Dave Navarro
in September twenty twenty four. They acknowledged members made inaccurate
statements about Pharrell's mental health at the time, and revealed

they recently reconvene to resolve their differences.
Speaker 8 (02:00:29):
Despite the reunion, members will now.
Speaker 1 (02:00:31):
Focus on their solo music careers, but noted Jane's Addiction
will forever.
Speaker 33 (02:00:35):
Live in their hearts.
Speaker 1 (02:00:37):
Former Chief People officer for Astronomer Kristen Cabot says she's
not dating her old boss after the two unintentionally went
viral at a Coldplay concert on social media over the summer.
Speaker 2 (02:00:48):
Cabot and ex Astronomer CEO Andy Byron are not dating,
despite creating an internet frenzy when they were caught getting
cozy at the concert. She confirmed the news while opening
up about her life after the incident with The New
York Times and admitted she made a bad decision and
had a couple of high noons, leading to the moment
spotted in the video a Mark Mayfield.
Speaker 1 (02:01:07):
Pete Davidson is now a dad. The Saturday Night Live
star and his girlfriend Elsie Hewitt announced over the summer
that she was pregnant. On Thursday, the twenty nine year
old actress posted a series of photos on Instagram of
her and Davidson holding their newborn daughter, named Scottie Rose
Hewitt Davidson, that's entertainment.
Speaker 4 (02:01:26):
I'm Jacqueline carl.
Speaker 8 (02:01:45):
This ditty has since too. Battle Creek Mayor, Mark Benky,
Chris Size Mayor heard that voice and he's actually singing
(02:02:06):
along this morning, the first person to sing on this program.
But you've made a sort of sigh like a ah
when you heard who's singing that song?
Speaker 42 (02:02:13):
Right?
Speaker 8 (02:02:13):
Absolutely, you recognize that voice, I believe. So it's J. P. McCarthy.
Speaker 13 (02:02:18):
Yep, for sure.
Speaker 8 (02:02:19):
So how many years has he been gone?
Speaker 30 (02:02:20):
Now?
Speaker 8 (02:02:21):
He passed away in nineteen ninety five. Wow, what do
we know? That's fuzzy man.
Speaker 13 (02:02:27):
Thirty years?
Speaker 8 (02:02:27):
Oh, she's okay, yeah, thirty years. But we still keep
his voice on the radio on stations across the state
of Michigan and in our hearts.
Speaker 15 (02:02:34):
Too.
Speaker 8 (02:02:35):
Absolutely, here's J P.
Speaker 30 (02:02:36):
McCarthy, come, Mayor.
Speaker 15 (02:02:48):
And Christmas.
Speaker 8 (02:02:59):
You drove in this morning to fire keepers to see
us here. How about a road report from the mayor.
Speaker 49 (02:03:03):
There's some blowing snow, but nothing big. I mean, it's
not sick and I'm just glad it rained for a day.
We got rid of a lot of it.
Speaker 8 (02:03:11):
Yea mother nature has its way, But I don't want
that rain to freeze on the roads.
Speaker 13 (02:03:15):
Because no, no, it was.
Speaker 49 (02:03:17):
That was those two snowfalls that we had. They were
tough at the heart. That was wet stuff and we
had a hard time getting rid of it.
Speaker 8 (02:03:24):
Would I dare say we had a frosting and that
Battle Creek was frosted.
Speaker 13 (02:03:29):
Yeah, it looks like it was like the flakes frosted flakes.
Speaker 8 (02:03:33):
If you're not tell you know, oh yeah, wow, that
would be a comedy. What did they did in a
teleflavored frosted flakes?
Speaker 49 (02:03:40):
I got it just coming, I bet you anything. My
kids do it already, so yeah, they put it on everything.
Speaker 8 (02:03:46):
Jim Wise, if Tony Cuthbert and I and Christy she's
here somewhere, and if we were to go to breakfast
in this building somewhere, this morning, could we get a
bowl of cereal?
Speaker 13 (02:03:56):
You could go to UH.
Speaker 20 (02:03:58):
You could go to UH the coffee shop Gopy, and
Gopy will sell a variety of things, you know, bagels
and things like that.
Speaker 13 (02:04:06):
But you can get up bowl of cereal at Gopy, okay,
and that would make them mazing. And I guarantee you
could have cath Kellogg cereal.
Speaker 49 (02:04:12):
Probably within three years you'll see Ntella being sold next
to the cereal.
Speaker 8 (02:04:16):
There you go, economy of scale. However, now you say that, Jim,
I know those little single servings of cereal you have
to eat about four of them and get filled up.
But I saw it with my own eyes, and the
two of you know this. I think it was during
the pandemic. Maybe it wasn't, but it doesn't matter. The giant,
giant boxes of cereal. Oh yeah, And I say, you
(02:04:40):
couldn't sleep up.
Speaker 13 (02:04:41):
It's like a crane the pandemic.
Speaker 8 (02:04:43):
It's big as I don't even know what to say.
But fire keepers and your charitable endeavor and Kellogg were
distributing these huge amounts of cereal. Right, how did that work?
Speaker 13 (02:04:55):
Worked out? Great? And again, food, as you know, was
such a huge part of all we do here. For
the community.
Speaker 20 (02:05:03):
So whether it's Thanksgiving turkeys or just last week we
did food and toy distribution. We had just shy of
three hundred families come through and get a turkey in
a box of food, and they could pick out toys
for their family based on age, and both our team
members donated the toys or the public came in and
(02:05:23):
donated toys as we had promoted where they got some
free slot play in addition to that. So and our
team members probably about fifty volunteered that day because it's
a lot of work and it was a great event.
It always ends up being a very cold day, but
it turned out to be a great day.
Speaker 8 (02:05:43):
The box of cereal was about size of an ATM
machine and there was a big bag inside. Yes whatever
the cereal was, Yes, and it was being distributed to
places who were able to get that to the people
we need there.
Speaker 49 (02:05:54):
I remember growing up everyone had their own box of
cereal and you sat there and ate your cereal and
read the box.
Speaker 8 (02:06:00):
Yeah, well they had the one too, couldn't where you
opened the top and you could pour the milk right
into the box.
Speaker 13 (02:06:06):
That's right.
Speaker 8 (02:06:06):
And I think there was maybe a wax bag or Yeah,
there was I remember that. Yeah, those were the days.
Now these are the days for the reality of kell
Logg and Battle Creek and the relationship and where do
we go from here?
Speaker 49 (02:06:19):
Well, we hope that too much won't change. They've been
very generous to the Battle Creek community. But now we
have two family owned businesses working out of the same
corporate headquarters. Kelenova will be operating as a separate unit
of Mars. Mars paid thirty point six billion dollars for
the transaction at closed last Friday. So Steve Kayley is
(02:06:44):
no longer a CEO at the Kelenova company, and now,
believe it or not, he's found another job working already
at over there in Pennsylvania A Kines. Yeah, oh really,
And it looks like he'll be doing the same thing there,
splitting up the company and then adding value to it.
Speaker 8 (02:07:03):
That doesn't split up the community too much, does it?
Or does it?
Speaker 49 (02:07:07):
I heard a few things this week we did about
the comments yet, but you know, God bless them. They
worked hard, they understood what needed to be done, and
they got the support of the Kellogg Foundation, who owns
thirty percent of the stock. And she's a very intelligent
individual too, and they made a decision. So we'll see
what's gonna go for.
Speaker 8 (02:07:28):
We're speaking with Mark Benky, the mayor of Battle Creek,
and for some reason, I associate you with the University
of Michigan.
Speaker 25 (02:07:35):
Do I have that right?
Speaker 15 (02:07:36):
No?
Speaker 49 (02:07:36):
No, Unfortunately I went to a small Catholic school down
in Indiana.
Speaker 8 (02:07:40):
You definitely watched Brian Song, Yes, I have.
Speaker 49 (02:07:44):
Yeah, Brian Song was filmed there back in nineteen oh right, yeah,
small Catholic school. There was about fifty priests there, beautiful
school up the middle of the cornfields.
Speaker 8 (02:07:54):
What did you learn from those? I find priests would
be fascinating friends. They're great conversations.
Speaker 49 (02:07:58):
They were, you know, not in college, in middle school.
So but you know, I I enjoyed and I still
a midnight mass. Not anymore.
Speaker 8 (02:08:11):
It's late, isn't it.
Speaker 26 (02:08:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:08:13):
Yes, it seems to have gotten later.
Speaker 8 (02:08:17):
If only they had it at eight o'clock, it would
be great.
Speaker 49 (02:08:19):
I do perpetual adoration though today at noon for how
for one hour? One hour? They they called and they
said we're hard up, and I said, I'll take noon
every frog.
Speaker 8 (02:08:30):
Because someone has to cover. Yeah, yeah, someone has to
be there.
Speaker 13 (02:08:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:08:33):
How long has it been going.
Speaker 49 (02:08:34):
I'm not sure, but it's been a long time. So
I was honored that they called, and I said, I'll
do it as long as I can do it.
Speaker 8 (02:08:40):
Oh sweet, Well, maybe when you're passing the time that hour.
Speaker 49 (02:08:45):
I read all the holy cards that I've accumulated. I
must have a huge stack of holy cards, and I
just go through them and just remember them and say
a quick prayer and uh.
Speaker 8 (02:08:54):
Merry Christmas yesterday or and pray for us would and
we'll do the same for you.
Speaker 2 (02:08:57):

Welcome back. It's Michael Patrick Shields. We want to thank
Americans for Prosperity for their participation in this program. The
mayor just said he would give my mother, Gladys the
key to the city, and you know what, she would
use it to get into fire Keepers. But you don't
need a key because it's open twenty four to seven
(02:10:33):
right here. Thank you to Americans for a Prosperity for
their participation in this program. Business leaders for Michigan, Consumer's

We talk about them too, and all of you are

a guest for an hour and God knows what I said,
but it'll drop soon, and he is also my attorney,
so I would hope he would protect me a little bit.
Maybe there'll be some editing. I don't know, but we'll
find out together. Jim Wise, the vice president of marketing
at Player Keepers Casino. We have gonna have a special
guest next but we also still have to tell the
(02:11:14):
listeners what happened to Tony Cuthbert in his first ever
trip to the blackjack table. And I'll tell you his
story as someone who myself has spent a lot of
time at the tables, is like everybody else, they're intimidated
at first that they're going to make the wrong hand
gesture or upset someone else at the table, or do
something you know, silly, and he got all of that yesterday.
Speaker 20 (02:11:38):
Well, this is going to be part of the big finish, correct,
So people need to stay tuned and we're going to
hit that big finish in hear how Tony's adventure went.
Speaker 8 (02:11:47):
Would you would just in the last because this is
like the ghost of Christmas past. We mentioned Michael Facenda
earlier and Jeff Lea France and yourself give us one
of the sideline calls that you did for the seventy
six ers in the state.
Speaker 20 (02:12:01):
Probably one of the most interesting things was they handed
me a piece of paper on opening night in probably
something like you know, nineteen eighty nine. I had no
idea what was on the piece of paper. So there's
a timeout, so I open up the piece of paper
to read it, and it's as ladies and gentlemen, after
whatever it was, seventeen years of Hall of Fame excellence,

the end of this season. I look up and everybody
in the building is staring at me, including the players
from the seventy six ers, who are looking at.
Speaker 13 (02:12:33):
Me, going what did he say? And they look back
at Julius, who goes yep yep.
Speaker 20 (02:12:38):
So I announced his retirement to the world. At the
end of a third quarter of an NBA opener.

Speaker 8 (02:16:15):
We have a long long list of guests here. That's
Jennifer Hudson singing that song. And we saved our special
guest for last story. Rios is the tribal consul sergeant
at arms. And we're here at fire Keepers Casino with
Jim Wise as our co host, and we say very
very happy holidays to you. And also it seems to me,
missus rios, that December nineteenth is a certain holiday for
(02:16:39):
you and everybody here on the property and extended beyond
it as well.
Speaker 9 (02:16:44):
Yes it is, and good morning, and thank you for
having me. This is a great day for Notawa's sitting
here on band of the paddle out of meat.
Speaker 8 (02:16:51):
Would you tell everybody what the significance of December nineteenth
is and how many years it's been significant?
Speaker 9 (02:16:58):
Yes, today we are so breding the thirtieth anniversary of
federal recognition for the tribe.
Speaker 8 (02:17:05):
Congratulations. And when you put that in the sort of
scale of history of Michigan history for instance, or United
States history tribal history, help us understand the significance.
Speaker 9 (02:17:19):
So, of course not Awissippi has been around time immemorial.
We have always existed as a tribe, but the federal
government put in a process in place for us to
truly identify that we existed as a tribe. There were
certain criteria we had to meet. This process began more
(02:17:40):
than thirty years ago. It was an uphill battle, but
together we always stayed together as a community and we
met all the criteria with vary the little resources, and
our people were so determined and never gave up, and
here we are today and we're kicking a celebration off
with festivities for our tribal members. We have all kinds
(02:18:03):
of We have a comedic performance, we have musical performance,
we have our cultural performances. It's going to be a
great weekend.
Speaker 8 (02:18:13):
Jim wise, isn't the comedic performance?
Speaker 42 (02:18:15):
Is he?
Speaker 9 (02:18:18):
Jim's pretty good?
Speaker 20 (02:18:21):
Not that she hasn't laughed at something I've said at
some point in time over eleven years, you could be
sure of it.
Speaker 8 (02:18:27):
Yes, Dory Rios, the Tribal Council Sergeant at arms, do
you think that now that there's more awareness in the
United States and in general culture of who this continent
was before it is what it is now, of tribal
matters and tribal history.
Speaker 9 (02:18:50):
I believe it's gotten better. We still have much more
work to do. It all starts with the relationships we
continue to build. Not Awissippi has a great relation, working
relationship with the state, and it's all about that government
to government relationships that we continue to build upon. So,
like I said, it's getting better, but we continue to
(02:19:11):
have work to.
Speaker 8 (02:19:11):
Do because I notice now sometimes let's say, at the
Academy Awards or at major events, there'll be an announcement
or a recognition at the start of the events about
the history of the property, for instance, on which the
event's taking place.
Speaker 9 (02:19:28):
Do you like that, Yes, as long as those different
entities get buy in from the local tribes where they're located,
most tribes are on board with that. That's gotten a
lot better all the most of the universities in the
state of Michigan, different corporations have gotten buy in. They've
(02:19:51):
sat down and had those conversations. Sometimes they're hard conversations,
but at least everyone's making some sort of effort to
at least, you know, down at that table and identify,
at least have the respect that, yes, these are indigenous
lands and do as we do and take care of
them as they conduct their business throughout the state and
(02:20:12):
throughout the United States.
Speaker 8 (02:20:15):
Were it not for the not a not a Sepa
band of the Potawatomy, there would not be a fire
Keepers for sixteen years now of success here. And what
do you think the secret of that is? Beyond Jim Wise.
Speaker 9 (02:20:30):
Beyond Jim Wise Wise is a great asset to fire Keepers.
I will let that be known. Just again. Building those
great community partnerships we have to operate, you know, near
different governments, having those government to government relationships, hiring key people,
(02:20:50):
respecting and taking care of our employees. That's always key.
Just as our ancestors did before. We welcome those that
you know, came across the shores. Sometimes that didn't always
turn out in our favor, but again, we take care
of community, we take care of land, We respect everyone
around us, and we just hope everyone does the same
(02:21:11):
for us.
Speaker 8 (02:21:13):
Our special producer Keanisha Smith is here this morning too, listening.
She says hello and congratulations, and she, like the rest
of us, have learned that you've reinvested heavily into this
property and beyond and I say, you're building out front
right now.
Speaker 9 (02:21:28):
In fact, yes, it's so important for us, you know,
to take care of our employees as well as our
tribal members, and we do that through healthcare. That is
most important to keep everyone healthy, to not only show
up to work, but to continue to lead their daily lives.
They have families to go home to. That's so important
(02:21:49):
for us. And as everyone's experiencing, you know, rising cost
healthcare is that number one cost. So anything we can
do to take care of our community, we will do.
Speaker 8 (02:22:03):
Thank you very much for that and for spending some
precious moments with us today on December. Megwitch to you, Megwitch.
Speaker 10 (02:22:13):
There we go.
Speaker 8 (02:22:13):
Thank you. I appreciate being able to say that correctly.
All the best. That's story Rios the Tribal Council sergeant
at arms, and I like she has a beautiful laugh,
doesn't she?
Speaker 13 (02:22:23):
She does.
Speaker 20 (02:22:24):
And Tribal Council does so much for the operation. They
do so much to take the funds from the casino
to reinvest in the tribal members. So whether it's health
as story mentioned, or housing or their education. You know,
tribal members can go off to college and not pay
a cent and that's such a difficult burden for so
many people. So it's growing kind of the whole tribal person.
(02:22:49):
And we're thrilled to see that money come back from
the casino to be able to do great things like that.
Speaker 8 (02:22:55):
Gladys Shields has motored back over to our studio audience
here and the crowd is somewhere under two thousand. Not
sure how far are under two thousand, but they've gathered
here today. Ye. She rolled away with her walker, with
cash in her hand and her fire keeper's Red Hot
Rewards card. She came back with a slip of paper
(02:23:16):
with sixty three cents.
Speaker 20 (02:23:18):
Yes, but she used a Red Hot Rewards card, which
I always like to tell you when I'm on the show.
If people learn nothing from anything else, I say, that
card does nothing to impact your wins and losses. It
just helps you get rewards. So don't be caught in
that old superstition. The card is only your friend.
Speaker 8 (02:23:35):
She has had four sessions over two days, and she's
over fours. Mate, Tony, you had an idea about what
do you do when you have a slip like that
with sixty three cents or seventy twenty three cents seventy
five cents? You were posing a I don't know if
that was after the bell's too hard y.
Speaker 11 (02:23:51):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 21 (02:23:52):
I just thought it would be a cheap marketing gimmick
that you could say, bring your slips, regardless of what
casino it's from, bring them to fire keepers and we
will accept those slips for whatever the nominal amount it is,
and that will be free play for the machines.
Speaker 13 (02:24:07):
Well, what we do do with those change slips? I
will tell you.
Speaker 20 (02:24:10):
So if you put in a ticket to get your
money out and it's eighty two dollars. Let's say have
fifty three cents. We will give you the fifty three
cents that you have to go to the cage to
pick up, or we just say, hey, we will donate
that to local charities. And so there are four of which,
for example, the Food Bank is one of them of
South Michigan. There's also the VA of Battle Creek. And
(02:24:34):
people take that money, they can pick which charity they
want that change to go to. And trust me, those
twelve censes and forty two censes they build up.
Speaker 13 (02:24:43):
Over a month.
Speaker 8 (02:24:43):
I've always wondered what happened to that?
Speaker 13 (02:24:45):
All that money?
Speaker 20 (02:24:46):
We give to four or five local charities every month.

Speaker 8 (02:24:55):
Secrets of fire Keepers And when we get back Tony
Cuthbert's first key people obviously here I am at Dusty
Cellar doing some holiday shopping and looking for there he is,
Matt Rhodes. Can you give us an update on the
season now that I was lucky enough to run into you.
Speaker 10 (02:25:10):
Welcome, Michael Patrick. Yes, we're fully stocked for the season
with a ton of wine, beer, especially food, and of
course get baskets.
Speaker 8 (02:25:16):
The options you provide for gift giving choices, I'm not
sure where to turn next.
Speaker 10 (02:25:20):
Yes, many choices, whether buying for family, friends or corporate gifts.
We have something for everyone.
Speaker 8 (02:25:24):
What about gift cards? Can I get a Dusties gift
card for the retail and the restaurants too.
Speaker 10 (02:25:30):
That's the nice thing. Bottle gift cards. They can redeemed
in the cellar for retail purchases, also in the wine
bar for casual fine dining, in the tap room your
neighborhood pub.
Speaker 8 (02:25:37):
I'm going to get a six for sixty six wine
club gift and some gift cards for some clients, and
then I'm going to stop in the wine bar and
tap room for a drink because I know I'll run
into friends there or meet some new ones. And you
can join me and the six for sixty six Wine
Club at Dusty Cellar. It's on Grand River in Okamus
and online at Dustiessellar dot com.
Speaker 10 (02:25:56):
Cheers Michael Patrick and happy holidays.
Speaker 8 (02:25:58):
Have you ever wondered why health insurance costs seem to
keep going up? I was doing some research online and
I stumbled upon some surprising information on Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan's websitemibluedaily dot com slash affordability. I was
surprised to learn that the cost Blue Cross pays for
prescription drugs rose by a staggering fifteen percent last year.
(02:26:19):
Fifteen percent. That's five times higher than inflation. It's no
wonder healthcare costs or a concern for so many of us.
That's why Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan is working
hard to help all of us better understand the factors
driving up healthcare costs and sharing what they are doing.
Is a business to address it because Blue Cross knows
that healthcare is personal, it needs to work for everyone,
(02:26:40):
and affordability matters. So I encourage you to take a
minute and check OUTMI blue Daily dot com slash affordability
and get informed. You'll be glad you did. It's eye
opening information that can help everyone better understand the complexities
of the healthcare system and its impact on your health
insurance costs.
Speaker 2 (02:27:03):
INBC News Radio, I'm Mark Mayfield. The clock is ticking
on the Trump administration to release the long awaited Jeffrey
Epstein files by midnight to night. The deadline comes under
a new transparency law passed by Congress to make public
the records that are tied to the late sex offender.
President Trump is using marijuana restrictions. Lisa Carton has the story.
Speaker 24 (02:27:22):
He signed an executive order switching the drug from a
Schedule one to a Schedule three, reclassifying it as less dangerous.
Speaker 14 (02:27:30):
Does it legalize marijuana in any way, shape or form,
and in no way sanctions its use as a recreational drug.
Speaker 24 (02:27:37):
Instead, Trump said it will help many Americans dealing with
extreme pain and other serious medical conditions. Marijuana has been
in the same category as heroin, ecstasy, and LSD.
Speaker 2 (02:27:48):
I'm Lisa Carton, and the Kennedy Center is getting a
new name after its board voted to rebrand it as
the Trump Kennedy Center. Mark Mayfield, NBC News Radio.
Speaker 8 (02:28:10):
Merry Christmas from Michael Patrick Shields, Tony Copfort and the
Orchestra and Jim Wise at fire Keepers, because you know,
remember after you have finished your Christmas dinner and you're
kind of wondering what to do, and you're like, all right,
we've all done all the sweet stuff. Let's go roll
the bones. That's what I would do and watch some
sports because Christmas is I think the Lions play on
Christmas Day. If I'm not mistaken, this year against the
(02:28:31):
Minnesota Vikings, they do.
Speaker 11 (02:28:32):
With Snoop Dogg as the halftime entertainment.
Speaker 8 (02:28:34):
What better place to watch that than fire keepers? Okay,
Jim Wise. Yesterday last night, Tony Cuppert in the orchestra.
They ate at Fortune eight noodle bar, and then Christie
actually said, I wonder what it's like at table games,
and she'd never done it. Tony's wife, I said, let's
(02:28:55):
go play, and so Tony got to the table intending
to watch, but he was lured in and said, I'm
gonna sit down because we were the only three people
at the table. There was a woman at third base
and myself and him, and he said, I don't want
to do the wrong thing, or you know, like anybody
who goes for the first time, it can seem intimidating
to sit down at a table. How much can I bet?
Speaker 6 (02:29:16):
Where do I do?
Speaker 10 (02:29:17):
What do I touch?
Speaker 8 (02:29:17):
What do I take that card? What are the hand
signals that?
Speaker 4 (02:29:21):
What was?
Speaker 8 (02:29:22):
If you would tell the story then of your experience
with this very nice We had two very nice dealers.
Speaker 21 (02:29:27):
Oh my goodness, the dealers couldn't have been better in
terms of explaining things to me. Of course, it's blackjack.
I mean, you know the you know what it is,
you know what you're trying to do, but it can
be intimidated. And I threw down twenty dollars, let's say,
and got the chips for it, and it was one
of the most enjoyable things I've done in a long
time in terms of how I felt like. I was
there for I don't know, forty minutes and I think
(02:29:50):
I got to total up to like sixty seventy dollars.
And I did make some hand movements that were not correct,
but the dealer would explain to me what I was
doing and how I should do it, and I would
get MPs. Was putting down a tip chip, I guess
you would call it.
Speaker 30 (02:30:06):
Yes.
Speaker 11 (02:30:06):
So I'm learning on the fly.
Speaker 21 (02:30:07):
With that, and I feel like it was a successful
experience that I'm no longer intimidated.
Speaker 8 (02:30:13):
To do it.
Speaker 13 (02:30:14):
There you go, the barrier is gone.
Speaker 8 (02:30:15):
Yeah, so he spent the whole night playing. Yeah, No
he didn't. But one nice thing is that we were
in First of all, it just occurred to me, you
do not have any of those automatic shuffles. You're all shoes.
Speaker 13 (02:30:26):
No, we have some amount of suffers.
Speaker 8 (02:30:28):
Not at all we do, but mainly shoes.
Speaker 13 (02:30:30):
Got probably a fifty to fifty split up.
Speaker 8 (02:30:32):
Yeah, we were at a shoe which isn't better? I think, yes,
And they had to reshuffle. So the lady on the
end went to go to the restroom and the dealer
was ready and should we wait for her? What do
you guys want to do? I will wait for her
to be nice, And in that time they were able
to discuss you know what this bet means? What that means.
It was like a class for Tony and for me
(02:30:54):
too because there were new bets on there that I
hadn't seen.
Speaker 13 (02:30:56):
Before, right, especially all the new side bets.
Speaker 20 (02:30:59):
Again, they popped up almost every month, so there's sometimes
even more frequent than I can follow, because like stop
machines will put in a side bet. Depending on the
volume of business, it either stays or maybe it goes away.
Speaker 21 (02:31:16):
Mindjo, I still need to learn a lot because I
just got a text from Scott Ellison.
Speaker 11 (02:31:19):
It's way over my head. He wrote, please tell me
you didn't split tens yesterday. I have no clue with that.
Speaker 13 (02:31:25):
Okay, that means if you got two ten valued cards.
Speaker 20 (02:31:28):
Some people will want to split them, thinking they're gonna
get two winning hands. He's right, You take the one
seemingly solid winning hand. You keep those tens and try
to win once, and don't get greedy and try to
win two hands by splitting tens.
Speaker 8 (02:31:45):
We saw it happen at that table. I know people
do it, and also Tony got the I don't know
if you were oblivious to it or you noticed it. Yes,
but there was a rotten sob who sat down in
a wolverine sweatshirt and hat, which is not really your mane.
But he was really an intense guy, and he was
judging every turn of the cards and every bet from
(02:32:05):
everybody else and making comments like, ohh I just don't
understand that, you know, and whatever. And I'm like, I'm
ready to leave the table when I'm staring at this guy,
and uh, so the fellow before him did a turn
and he's like coughing and puffing. But that turn that
the guy disagreed with, save the table dealer busted. So
(02:32:27):
I looked up and I said, maybe it's good he
did that, now, huh. His eyes went down and he
didn't answer, and then he left, and I said.
Speaker 13 (02:32:36):
Stop bringing the table down.
Speaker 20 (02:32:39):
Yes, guess what if it's a six or eight deck
game and that next card could be done near anything
like just stop already.
Speaker 8 (02:32:45):
And Tony did some things that maybe the book would
disagree with, but it wasn't terrible. The world didn't end.
And he even did the cut, you know, he got
to cut the card.
Speaker 11 (02:32:56):
That was That was the most nerve wrecking part.
Speaker 15 (02:32:58):
Of the.
Speaker 8 (02:33:00):
Because you're only determining the rest of our face.
Speaker 13 (02:33:02):
What do I do with this thing? First of all?
Speaker 8 (02:33:05):
Well, he put it all the way, smoothed it out
everything he could.
Speaker 13 (02:33:08):
Did he do thin to win? Or I forget?
Speaker 8 (02:33:10):
Which was fifty?
Speaker 13 (02:33:13):
Okay?
Speaker 8 (02:33:13):
All right? Like were in that shoe?
Speaker 11 (02:33:15):
Yeah it was fifty fifty.
Speaker 13 (02:33:16):
That's good.
Speaker 8 (02:33:17):
It's thin to win a thing.
Speaker 13 (02:33:18):
That's everybody's got a silly but he's a million of these.
Speaker 11 (02:33:22):
I would do it right now.
Speaker 8 (02:33:24):
He has to learn about double downs, yes, and when.
Speaker 20 (02:33:28):
To do that exactly, depending on not only your hand,
but what that dealer upcard is showing you determines the
best times for that. And by the way, uh, they
used to make a little card instead. If you have
actually can do why you can use that as long
as you're not like taking four minutes to like hold
up the game every time, but you glance down at
your card.
Speaker 13 (02:33:48):
Okay.
Speaker 20 (02:33:50):
But sometimes you can ask the dealer. Sometimes you can
literally go it's not a good good bet. And you
know they don't want to be beholden to God forbid.
They make tell you to do something and doesn't work out,
So sometimes they're a little reticent, but they'll usually tell you, generally, sir,
the move there is to do X, take a card,
split double whatever it is.
Speaker 8 (02:34:10):
You heard me do that, right?
Speaker 6 (02:34:11):
You did?
Speaker 8 (02:34:12):
I played cards all over the world and I still ask,
what's the book say?
Speaker 13 (02:34:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (02:34:16):
And the book says double. Okay. They'll promise is that
lady or dealer seeing millions of hands. I'm gonna listen
to what she says. She knows how it works.
Speaker 20 (02:34:27):

Oh my goodness, this is a day for football, There
is no question about it. So tonight we do have
Alabama and Oklahoma, And how is this game going to
work out?
Speaker 11 (02:38:39):
If Alabama loses? That's my big question.
Speaker 20 (02:38:42):
Absolutely, all the Kaitlin de Boor questions will arise. I
think Alabama people are nervous because on one hand, they say,
losing three games in a year and potentially a fourth tonight,
that's unheard of. But do we really want to lose
the coach? And then we got to go find somebody else.
A lot happening there, big chooes to fill.
Speaker 11 (02:39:02):
No question for Nick Saban.
Speaker 21 (02:39:03):
Now, these two teams did meet in November and it
was the Sooners beating the tie twenty three to twenty one,
So there is that. Also, Western Michigan will clash with

it would be more favorable to take on Notre Dame

So it's the Division two national champions the Wolverines next coach.
Speaker 8 (02:39:48):
And why not?
Speaker 21 (02:39:50):
Don't see it happening? He has a obviously a He's
been so successful at Farris State. I just don't know
if that could happen.
Speaker 13 (02:39:57):
In Western by the way, is a three and a
half point favorite.

Oklahoma is the slight one and a half point favorite tonight.

Speaker 8 (02:40:21):
That was confirmed.
Speaker 21 (02:40:22):
Obviously so that's gonna be nice and the nation gets

we had a thriller. I wish it was the Sunday
